Motivation In The Movie Maverick
#1.) In the video clip Maverick (1994), the key characteristic of classical
Hollywood illustrated is, motivation. This is seen when the main character shows a
lot of interest in assisting a poker game and is willing to go through great lengths
just to go to the game. There is a couple of examples of how he shows his
motivation. One is, when he is seen traveling on a donkey because his horse got
stolen. Secondly, he is traveling on a donkey, having four days left to get there.
Thirdly, he is traveling being $3,000 short for the entrance fee to the game.
Additionally, the path that he has to travel seems dangerous, considering it s a
dessert. Lastly, he even says, no way in hell I was going to miss that game Maverick
(1994). All his actions where clearly because of his motivation. The function of this
scenario in the overall narrative of the film was to identify with the protagonist
reaching his main goal. In the beginning scene, the protagonist was immediately
introduced and portrayed as the good guy. This was seen when that he gets into
danger while trying to reach his goal. It shows that the main character will have to
go through a number of chain of event to get to the main goal, including
overcoming danger. The scenario put in question if the main character was going to
be able to attend the poker game. The scene where he is left alone almost dangling
from a tree with his horse and a snake, put into question will and how will he
accomplish his goal.
#2.) Some typical characteristics associated with depictions of masculinity in
Hollywood are being virile, active, physically aggressive, emotions suppressed,

Even though this is such a great model of black comedy, Joseph Heller said that he
was not aware that it would be funny when he wrote it (Catch 22, Computer). In the
story, Catch 22 is a military rule that employs circular logic. An example of this is the

The main themes in Heller s novel are paradox and contradiction. He used his novel
as a way to show the absurdity of war and to protest World War II. Another author,
Kurt Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse Five in 1969 as an analysis of the human
condition from an uncommon perspective, using time travel as a plot device and the
bombing of Dresden in World War II, which Vonnegut witnessed, as a starting point

Rationale: Over the last three weeks, the Purple Group has been making great strides
in building rapport and group members have been opening up about their personal
conflicts, anxieties and insecurities. I have felt touched that others have disclosed
such heartfelt and gut wrenching personal histories and at times, I have been almost
moved to tears. While we have had many positive experiences and discussed many
positive aspects in our lives within the last three groups, I can t help but think about

old sister Jessica Bunn. Today, four years later I think of her in a completely

lightly. Parents should understand that they have a right to decide what their child
reads, but they should not take away that same right from other parents. The attempt
to expose students to challenging topics and issues is not intended to force students
into a certain mode of thought. Books serve as opportunities for students to think,
theorize, question, and explore those topics in a controlled environment directed by
teachers, parents, and experts and even though the book contains some sensitive
material the lessons learned are far superior to the controversial material presented
in Thirteen Reasons Why. Great lessons are not just learned in real life; we can
learn them in books as well. Give the book an honest try and do not be biased to
sensitive material, grasp the main message of the book then make the final decision,
but make sure it is for your child, not the entire school
