There are five main types of vertebrates: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Each group shares certain characteristics - mammals are warm-blooded and have hair; birds are warm-blooded, have feathers and wings, and fly; fish have scales and fins and swim; reptiles have scales, are cold-blooded, and can walk or crawl; and amphibians have smooth skin, are cold-blooded, and can walk or swim.
