Climates in the world
1. Climates in the world
Climate describes the main weather characteristics of a place. Climate is determined by:
•
•
•
•
Here you have a world map
Colour different climates according to this code:
• Orange: tropical climates.
• Blue: Polar climates.
• Red: Temperate climates.
2. Now write the main characteristics for each kind of climate.
• If you could choose a place to live in. Would you consider climate as a fact for choosing it? What other criteria would
you choose?
• Investigate about a place you would like to live in and write about your reasons for living there.
• Write about the place and its climate and the reasons for choosing it. Also consider:
The continent.
The country it is in.
The location of your place in the country.
The sights to be seen.
Your reasons for choosing it.
Here you have my place as a model:
I would like to live in Salvador de Bahia, Salvador is in Brazil, in South America and it has a tropical climate. Bazil is an enormous
continent and it has beautiful beaches and also amazonic jungle. I like Salvador because it has a beautiful beach and I like
swimming and sunbathing. I also like historical places and Salvador has beautiful buildings such as an impressive ancient market
and a beautiful cathedral.
Salvador has a tropical climate because it is near the Capricorn tropic. Tropical climates are warm all year round and that’s perfect
for me because I hate cold weather. The problem is that there is a rainy season and I prefer dry weather. It is not so bad because I
can have that weather in the dry season. In Brazil is is also a huge tropical rainforest and I would like to visit it, I love exotic plants
and wild animals.
Salvador de Bahía would be my perfect place to live in.
Now you are ready to do your final task for climate:
Each member in your group is going to investigate about a place in the world. You are going to make sure you cover all different
climates. You are going to write an essay including all the aspects covered in your previous task . The more information you
include the better.
3. Then, you are going as a special guest to the World Climate Conference, representing your place and continent. You have to talk
to the audience about that place.
You can perform the best you can, you can show us photographs, food, customs…. You have to wear clothes according to your
climate. Use your imagination and have fun!!!!!!
