Volcanoes were one of the biggest contributors of gases to the environment pre humans, which was
one big reason for the climate changes that occurred in that time period. After humans advanced
enough we started the industrial revolution in 1790. With the start of the industrial revolution massive

As human beings, it is natural to judge people who are different than ourselves. Most often these
judgements are based off of common beliefs, or stereotypes. Stereotypes apply to every group, from
the slow moving elderly to lively cheerleaders. Usually these beliefs do not describe every person in a
group, but they all receive the same labels. Cheerleaders make up one group that is commonly
stereotyped, but many people don t know the true nature of cheerleading.
Countless stereotypes that I have about cheerleaders have been ingrained into my mind by the media,
and from personal experience. From what I had observed in high school, cheerleaders are the popular
girls with plenty of friends. Not being associated with a cheerleader meant that you weren t on the
map. Promiscuity was also an extremely prominent stereotype in high school, which had always
shocked me since the cheerleaders seemed like a nasty group of girls. Cheerleaders also have a
reputation of being air headed or simply not intelligent. As an outsider, they did not give me the
impression of being book smart, especially at my high school. Another stereotype that I have is that
cheerleaders aren t entirely athletic. Yes, cheerleading is a sport. Yes, it can be dangerous and it does
take work. However, cheering doesn t look like it requires the same level of effort and intensity as

Looking up at the night all people see different things. They see constellations, heaven, a lifeless void.
All of these interpretations are unique to the person. There is a poem that covers this idea of mixed
meaning named When I heard the Learn d Astronomer by the writer Walt Whitman written in 1865
and published in 1867. The poem explains the speaker is sitting in on a lecture by a knowledgeable
astronomer. The man is sitting in a lecture room and shows an obvious distaste for his setting by
explaining he soon became tired and sick. The lecture uses many blunt mathematical terms such as
figures, columns, charts, diagrams, addition, subtraction, and division. And after the man begins to
feel uneasy he steps out of the lecture hall outside. It is here that he looks up and admires the stars.
The speaker of When I heard the Learn d Astronomer shows distaste for over analysis and the lack of
connection to the natural world through word choice, meter, and sectioning. First, the meter of the first
half of the poem helps develop the idea of overanalysis. An example to illustrate this idea is the first
half of the poem: When I heard the learn d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in
columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture room. The
amount of syllables in the first half increases from 9, to 14, to 18, to 23. The steady syllable count
increase is done intentionally to induce a sense of tension. This tension is needed to give a growing
sense of urgency for the speaker to deny, and turn around and Whitman also put When at the
beginning of each line of lines 1 4. Rigid flow gives a sense monotony, thus making the poem
expectable and not in any way intriguing. The aforementioned case is a connection the speaker wants
