• All tissues lying between the pelvic cavity
and, the surface of the vulva and
perineum.
• Includes:
– Pelvic peritoneum
– Extraperitoneal fat and cellular tissue
– Levators ani and their fascial coats
– The triangular ligament (urogenital diaphragm)
– The perineal muscles and their aponeuroses
– Subcutaneous fascia and fat
– Skin.

= The levator ani muscles

• In the midline, the pelvic floor is pierced by

– Urethra
– Vagina
– Rectum.

• The ischiococcygeus part:
– Origin from the ischial spine
– Inserted into the front of the coccyx.
• The iliococcygeus:
– Origin from the “white line” on the lateral Wall of the pelvis,
– inserted into tip of the coccyx and raphe
• The pubococcygeus
– Origin from the back of the pubic ramus
– Inserted into tip of the coccyx and raphe

• Sends fibres to the urethra, vagina and
rectum to blend with their intrinsic
musclesdescribed as
• Pubourethralis
• Pubovaginalis
• Puborectalis

The female reproductive system is unique in it's own
structure. In order to create new life through pregnancy
and childbirth a reproductive system is essential. The
process is done through a male and female sex cells.
