This study examined 3,463 doctoral dissertation abstracts from Turkish universities between 2010-2017. The researchers developed an evaluation form and independently reviewed each abstract using document analysis. Most abstracts included the aims and findings, but few mentioned the sampling methods or data collection tools. Some abstracts provided data collection and sampling details. Few abbreviations or references were used. The number of dissertations did not significantly differ by gender over the years. Overall, the abstracts provided insufficient methodological information. Differences between and within university programs made it difficult to understand the dissertations. The study concludes that dissertation writing guidelines should establish a standard national template for abstracts.

A review of doctoral dissertations in architecture in Turkey.pdfSophia Diaz
This document summarizes a study that analyzed 1,170 doctoral dissertations in architecture from Turkish universities between 1990-2018. The study examined characteristics of the dissertations such as year of completion, language, university, author gender, and advisor title. Most dissertations were in architectural design, written in Turkish, from Istanbul Technical University, by female authors advised mostly by professor supervisors. The results can help guide research activities and training in architecture to support universities' research goals in line with Turkey's higher education policies.
The present study aimed at exploring the abstracts of research articles written by non-native English researchers to uncover the specific characteristics of academic vocabulary employed in the English research articles abstracts. It focuses on frequency and coverage distribution of the words from the Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000) in the abstracts of research articles. The source of data for this corpus study was gathered from 97 abstracts written by the EFL researchers and published by the Journal Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Missio at STKIP St. Paulus Ruteng from 2015 until 2018. The results of this study revealed that the coverage of K1, the first most frequent 1000 English words, is the most dominant lexical items applied by the researchers. It covered 71.33% of the texts. The representation of lexical items that belong to K2, the second most frequent 1000 English words, covered 5.44% of all the words used by the writers in their abstracts. Moreover, the presence of Academic Word List, which refers to a list of 570 word families that are commonly found in academic texts and Off-list, which refers to the words that do not belong to K1 or K2 because it is related to certain field, has slight difference over all of the texts where the former covers 11.95% and the later covers 11.26%. As far as the findings of the present study are concerned, the room for some improvements on academic words applied in the abstracts need to pay attention.

This document analyzes 87 studies on foreign language curriculum evaluation conducted between 2005-2016. It finds that most studies were published as master's theses or articles. The studies mostly evaluated elementary school programs, language course programs, and preparatory school programs. Sample sizes between 31-100 were most common, while sizes below 10 and over 1000 were least common. Mixed methods were most popular, using questionnaires and interviews. Descriptive statistics like frequencies and percentages were used more than inferential statistics for data analysis. Over half the studies did not use a curriculum evaluation model.
A Literature Review Of Lesson Study In Initial Teacher EducationTye Rausch
This literature review examined how learning and observation are discussed in studies of Lesson Study (LS) in initial teacher education (ITE). Independent searches by teams in Norway and England identified 68 relevant peer-reviewed journal articles. The review found a lack of clarity around definitions of learning and how it should be observed in LS. There was also wide variation in the focus of classroom observations in ITE LS studies. The review suggests researchers should more explicitly define learning and observation methods to strengthen LS research in ITE.

- The document discusses using Benjamin Bloom's taxonomy to review literature and write literature reviews.
- It explains the six categories in Bloom's taxonomy (remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, creating) and how each step can be applied to reviewing academic works in a research area.
- By systematically applying these cognitive processes, a literature review determines the current state of research on a topic and allows the researcher to identify gaps and situate their own study within the existing literature.
Major trends in distance education research: a combination of bibliometric an...Nader Ale Ebrahim
This study intends to explore the current trends in the field of distance education research catalogued in Web of Science (WoS) database during 1980-2016. Mainly bibliographic description and social network analysis was employed to investigate the structure and patterns of information exchanged within the field of distance education research and also to interpret the interrelationship between keywords indicated in these articles. A total of 500 most cited articles (out of 6,141 relevant to the topic) were reviewed to examine the impact of factors such as journal DOI and keywords on the number of citations that they received. We also identified major trends in distance education literature including variation across publication and citation year, top ranking of institutions and top ranking of published papers based on authors, subject area and co-authorship collaboration between countries. Our results show that the most cited articles are from two institutions of United States and United Kingdom and the most prolific years in terms of number of published articles and citations are 2013.We also found non-significant and very small correlation between the number of citation and DOI number of the journals. Our study serves as a resource for future studies by indicating how trends in distance education research have gradually developed over time and demonstrating the characteristics of the most cited articles in this literature.

A Genre Analysis Study Of Iranian EFL Learners Master Theses With A Focus On...Jennifer Daniel
This document summarizes a study that analyzed the rhetorical structure of introduction sections in 40 master's theses written by Iranian EFL students. The study found that most of the rhetorical structures and moves approved by experts in the field occurred at a high frequency in the theses introductions. Understanding genre and rhetorical structures is important for academic writing. The results may help improve teaching of academic writing and help students structure their theses introductions according to conventions.
This critical review aims to describe the integrity of paraphrasing the theory
or references and scientific journals that become references. The
contribution of this research is as a reference and input to develop the
creativity of critical thinking of the quoters. The method used is listening
and analyzing the journal's contents as a source of data; critically identifying
the parts of the journal containing quotations, direct quotations, and
paraphrasing of the theories being referenced. The results of the critical
review show several weaknesses, including several quotes that are not
accompanied by relevant data and references, errors in citing reference
sources. In addition, quotations or paraphrases have paid attention to the
integrity of meaning with several techniques, namely complete and partial
paraphrasing techniques. Partial is divided into two; according to the
research formulation, the theory is paraphrased and several points of the
combined theory are paraphrased because they are closely related and
complementary. This critical review implies that it is a follow-up study to
analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a scientific article based on
relevant theories, studies, and previous research results.
An Analysis Of Abstracts In Medical And Economics Journals Microstructure An...Alicia Buske
This document summarizes an analysis of 40 abstracts from medical and economics journals. The analysis examines the microstructure of the abstracts to determine common elements and structures. The goal is to provide guidelines for designing abstract writing exercises for language courses in specific fields like medicine and economics. The analysis found that abstracts generally include elements like background, purpose, methodology, results, and conclusions. However, researchers disagree on some aspects of abstract structure and function. The document concludes that abstract writing is an important skill that deserves more focus in language courses, given the importance of publishing research and skills needed in various professions.
Metaphorical Perceptions of the Students in the Department of Translation and...inventionjournals
The aim of this study was to determine the type of metaphors created by the students about their English and French language instructors in the department of Translation and Interpretation at Kafkas University in Turkey and to categorize them under common headings. In order to collect data both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques were utilized, by requesting the translation and interpretation students to fill in the forms containing prompts “English language instructors are like.................., because they..........” and “French language instructors are like.................., because they..........”. As a result of the data collected from 68 students, 60 valid metaphors were determined for English language instructors and 58 for French language instructors, and 7 conceptual categories were determined for both instructors. According to the findings, mostly used metaphors for English language instructors are friend (f=7), father (f=3), book (f=3), wise man (f=3), moon (f=3),f lower (f=3), author (f=3), robot (f=3), ant (f=3), and an egoist person (f=3), respectively. As for French language instructors, mostly used metaphors in this group are book(f=3), encyclopedia(f=3), bee(f=3), and an egoist person(f=3), respectively.

Political Science Research Paper Outline. Free PoliticaKarla Adamson
False. Cultural relativism and moral relativism are not exactly the same. Cultural relativism is the view that cultural practices and beliefs should be understood based on the cultural context from which they arise rather than being judged against the standards of another culture. Moral relativism is the view that moral truths are relative to the culture or society holding them rather than being absolute. So cultural relativism focuses on understanding other cultures, while moral relativism focuses on whether moral claims can be objectively true or false.

He encourages Romeo to have casual sex instead of pursuing a serious relationship. Mercutio also seems jealous of Romeo's love for Juliet. The two characters present contrasting views of love and relationships that underscore major themes in the play.

The document discusses the enforcement of rules in American football by organizations like the NFL and NCAA. It notes that rules have gradually changed over the years to make the game safer and less violent. However, some argue this has made football too soft compared to the past. New rules like targeting bans certain tackles and leads to more penalties being called, which slows down defenses and reduces exciting big hits. While safety was the goal, some feel the rule changes have negatively impacted the game.

Great Writing 2 Great Paragraphs (EditionKarla Adamson
The passage discusses how the horror genre shifted in the late 1980s/early 1990s to portray serial killers as humans living among society rather than masked figures. This changed the "Final Girl" character, exemplified by Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs, who must face internal rather than external threats. By confronting more psychologically complex villains, these films explored how violence relates to sexuality in a way that still resonates with audiences today.
