I don t think I ever wanted to be a writer: My experience with writing I walk into my bright, and
decorative bedroom after a long, and tiring day of school. Turning on the lights, I steer towards

My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to
discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters

Roxy Paine, Conjoined Essay
The piece of art that I have chosen is Roxy Paine s Conjoined created in 2007. This is a
representational piece depicting a pair of trees taken from nature and joined by their branches. The
trees themselves are cylindrical, smooth and shiny from all angles. They reflect light from all sides
creating a mirror like appearance.
The branches initially flow upward but then gradually flow into the middle where they are
conjoined. They are located in Madison Square Park where they seem to blend in with the rest of
the trees but they definitely manage to stand out. Because they serve no function other than visual I
consider this sculpture to be fine art.
Roxy Paine welds cylindrical stainless steel pipes and rods to form and shape these two ... Show
Stainless steel is more expensive than standard steel. Paine has studied and observed they way trees
grow and this has allowed him to form his own artistic rendition.
Paine uses the visual element of Direction and Movement to make the trees appear like they are
growing into each other or being pulled apart. The branches are tapering at the tips and flowing to
the side almost like a windstorm is blowing them over. Looking at the trees you get a real sense of
struggle between forces. They look like they are pulling apart but at the same time trying to
overtake one another.
He also uses the visual element of Shape and Mass. The trees are 3D representation of actual
trees. They are over 40 foot tall and very heavy; therefore they consume a large amount of volume
and mass. The trees appear to be constructed from geometric shapes but also try to follow the form
of nature in a more organic way.
Since the two trees are a sculpture they are naturally 3D but their reflection caused by light shining
on the stainless steel reminds us of their intricate details. The trees have a very strong gray
monochromatic earth tone caused by the steel.
A Principle of Design that Paine emphasizes is Unity. The trees are conjoined, rendering them as
one, as a whole, they are in unison. The trees appear to be to scale when compared to the other
trees in the park. They are not too small nor do the feel out of place. There is a strong emphasis

One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown CafГ©) to watch
Evil Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment
and Sweat Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a
program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the
production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was
Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who ,
which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class
we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that
description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is about four college students who go on a trip
for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods. There they find a book that helps them
release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing
one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared
to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. To me, the play
seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil. Perseverance to survive from the

Broken Windows policing refers to a form of policing that is based upon the broken windows
theory, which serves as a metaphor for disorder within neighborhoods. According to this theory, a
direct relationship exists between levels of disorder/incivility within a community and subsequent
occurences of serious crime; therefore, the greater the disorder, the greater chance of serious crime
offenses occuring, and vice versa. Broken windows policing works in cohesion with this theory to

author wrote it so. Before I read this book I thought the book was about astronauts or something

that it was written for a more fantasy driven culture. If some random historians and sociologists
just randomly came by this book, first they d probably think what is a book, why was society so

Wartburg College is nestled in the small Iowa city of Waverly population 10,106. The small
campus of 1,482 is arranged so it is very close together and most buildings are connected by
skywalks. Since the private college is so small, the average class size is eighteen, and the student
to faculty ratio is an impressive 11:1. Of the 1,482 students at Warburg Collegearound 450 are
involved in music in some way. This shows a strong emphasis on and belief in music. There are
currently fifteen choral and instrumental ensembles at Wartburg and there is always potential to be
more. They allow people to form music ensembles and have them supported by the school if a
faculty member will sponsor it. They even have a community symphony that some selected students
can play in. With this, the students can interact more with the Waverlycommunity and form some
important business connections that they can call on in the future. All the ensembles are open to
music and non music majors and they are all open to incoming freshman. Students do not have to
be an upperclassmen to make it into one of the three internationally touring ensembles. Wartburg
college has a 4 4 1 class schedule and this allows the touring ensembles to travel in what they call
May term or the 1 part of the class schedule. During that time they only take one class for the
whole month of May and really immerse themselves in it. It is also at this time when most people

environment is cold, windy and harsh; forcing plants and animals to adapt. Herbivores eat the
plants to survive, and the predators eat the other predators or herbivores. Nitrogen, oxygen, argon
