Essay about Background and Character of T.J. Avery
Background and Character of T.J. Avery Ladies and gentlemen of the court, I have been charged
with investigating, and bringing to the attention of the court the entire background and character
of T.J. Avery from an impartial point of view. These are my findings. T.J. Avery comes from a
sharecropping family which live and work on Mr. Gangers land; they are poor and lack financial
independence. T.J. s father is a weak old man and in consequence lacks the physical strength to
punish him, for anything he does wrong. T.J. has almost no principles, so he has no problem with
getting others in trouble when he was the one who was the cause... Show more content on

had written some cheat notes, and when the teacher who happened to be Misses Logan, he gave
them to Stacey Logan who is his friend, but before Stacey could hand them back, his mother saw
that and interrogated him about it and then proceeded to punish him in front of the entire class.
Prior to this T.J. had been caught rummaging threw Misses Logan s books at her desk looking
for the test, after sneaking into her room, while visiting the Logan household as a friend of the
Logan children. T.J. is befriended by R.W. and Melvin Simms, who buy him alcohol at The
Wallace Store. T.J. is proud of this friend ship with the two white boys, but T.J. is disgusted that
Grand Mother Logan wanted to see Mr Wade W. Jamison, who is an attorney at Law. This is
while he was visiting the town of Strawberry with Grand Mother Logan and the Logan children.
Also while in strawberry Stacey Logan is foolishly persuaded by T.J. to go into the white mans
store, which is other wise know as The Barnett Mercantile, while in the mercantile T.J. is
mesmerised by the peal handled pistol. Later that month Stacey Logan is given I new coat form
his Uncle, Hammer Logan, T.J. mocks him and his coat, saying that he looked like a fat preacher
because the coat was a bit big on him at the time, later T.J. cons Stacy into lending him the coat until

The Attack Of The Bombing Of September Anita Kaplan
September 11, 2001 began as a beautiful day with a clear blue sky, yet today people recognize it
as the single largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack (September 11, 2001 2016). These
attacks conducted by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, killed thousands of people and left their
loved ones shocked and devastated. At first, the people thought the plane crashing into one of
the twin towers was just an accident; it was not until the second collision that people realized
America was truly under attack. Though this tragedy lasted only a day, people continue to feel
the effects 15 years later, and most likely will in the future. After this terrible day, the security at
many places such as airports was strengthened greatly. Many people, however, continue to live
with the looming fear that another tragedy like this may recur. The attacks of September 11,
2001 greatly affected my mother, Anita Kaplan, because after that tragic day, she became
paranoid in regards to the safety of her and her family, afraid to travel on airplanes, and more
aware of both the world news and her surroundings. The events of September 11th did not arise out
of thin air, but rather came from decades of terrorismand the creation of the terrorist group: Al
Qaeda. According to Karl DeRouen, terrorism is the use of violence as a means of instilling terror
or fear for political or ideological gains (DeRouen 2016). This terrorist group was doing just that:
using violence to implant fear in

Apple s Market Capitalization Essay
Market capitalization is a popular metric for assessing the size of a company as a representation of
the investing public s notion of the company s worth. The figure is derived by simply multiplying
the number of outstanding shares of the company s stock by the share price. (Slivka, 2010)

Access to distribution channels complements Apple s strategy. Unlike most competitors, Apple
appears just now to be seeking a strong presence abroad. The U. S. A. accounts for 48% of its
revenue while Europe contributes only 21% and Asia less than 10%. While a mass marketer, Apple

3.4.3Threat of substitute products
Microsoft s Windows operating system had been flawed since its inception. Touted to be a
universal operating system that would work on all computers, it was supposed to allow
computer purchasers to use the same software on various brands of computers. It has worked
that way but is subject to crashing at any given time for no apparent reason. Apple s operating
system has none of those flaws and users taunt PC users regularly. Apple has even used these
taunts in advertising with its I am a Mac and I am a PC series of ads. Product differentiation is
the purpose but loyal Mac users would not substitute a PC for a Mac, believing the Mac to be
unique.
3.4.4Rivalry among competing firms
Due to Apple s wide platform of products there is a threat of substitute products from an
assortment of firms. In the product line of iPods, Apple makes a variety of units. The market share

American Slavery in 1600s
American Slavery Slavery became an established activity in America by 1600 s. The slaves were
mostly to provide free and cheap labor. Apart from America, slavery was practiced in other parts
of the world throughout history, and in fact it can be traced back to the time of the ancient
civilization. With industrial revolution especially with the rise of sugar plantations, the slaves
were used to grow sugar in the periods from 1100. This intensified between 1400 and 1500 when
Portugal and Spain ventured into sugar growing in the eastern Atlantic regions. The growth of
the plantations required labor, hence African slaves were bought from Africa, to provide labor.
As the Europeans set up colonies in America, they brought the plantation ideas with them, which
led to the need for labor hence they tried to enslave the Native Americans to work in their mines
and fields. The Native Americans were prone to diseases hence most of them died as a result of
diseases and overworking. Apart from the ones who died, a number rebelled and formed
alliances forcing the Europeans to look for other sources of labor. They started to acquire
African slaves due to a number of reasons: The African slaves were more stronger and immune to
a number of diseases in Europe and America; the Africans had no friends and family in America
hence it was not easy for them to form alliances or to escape; they provided a permanent and a
cheap source of labor; and most of them had worked on farms before in their

Disability Discrimination
Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in the workplace and its effect on employment
Introduction
The act was introduced with the view to eliminate discrimination amongst disabled people in
employment, throughout the assignment I will critically analyse the different areas of the Disability
Discrimination Act 1995 and find out what effect they have had on disabled people in employment.
Definition of disability
A disabled person is someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial
and long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities (section 1 (1)
DDA 1995). The disability discrimination act 1995 was introduced to outlaw discrimination against
disabled employees in the UK and covers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By taking these steps the employer could be sure they have done all they can for the employee and
safeguard themselves from any legal action as their dismissal would be justified.
Disability related discrimination
Section 3A(1) of the Disability Discrimination Act states that an employer discriminates against a
disabled person if the discrimination is related to the persons disability or if the treatment they
receive differs from the treatment of persons without a disability unless the employer can actually
justify the less favourable treatment.
In Jones v Post office (2001) Mr Jones worked as a driver for the postal service when he
developed diabetes. After discovering his disability Mr Jones s employers removed him from his
driving duties for health and safety issues, as their policy was that any drivers receiving insulin
treatment should not carry on in their existing role in case they suffered a hypo attack whilst
driving. After reviewing their decision they allowed Mr Jones to return back to his driving duties
limiting his driving hours to two hours in any twenty four. Mr Jones was unhappy at this decision
and went to the Employment tribunal who accepted Mr Jones s claim of disability discrimination
on the basis that the limiting his driving hours was not justified. The tribunal

The Legacy Of The First Black U.s. Supreme Court Justice
The Legacy of the First Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice The life of Thurgood Marshall and the
legacy that he abandoned has affected the present day U.S. Legal Branch today. He did
numerous things throughout his life that were persuasive to the administration. He did as well
as could be expected to end all racial isolation. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end
the enduring legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of
American culture (Haddock). Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 2, 1908. He
was the considerable grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic
Republic of the Congo; his granddad was likewise a slave. His unique name was Thoroughgood,
yet was in the end abbreviated to Thurgood in second grade since he disdained spelling it. His
dad, William Marshall, who was a railroad doorman, and his mom Norma, an instructor, imparted
in him a gratefulness for the United States Constitution and the standard of law (Brownworth).
In the wake of moving on from graduate school, Marshall began a private law firm in Baltimore.
He started his 25 year alliance with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) in 1934 by speaking to the association in the graduate school segregation suit
Murray v. Pearson. In 1936, Marshall turned out to be a piece of the national staff of the NAACP.
In Murray v. Pearson, Marshall spoke to Donald Gaines Murray, a dark Amherst College graduate

Similarities Between Roark And Keating
The Fountainhead, a story of man s struggle and perseverance to succeed in a dog eat dog world.
Howard Roark and Peter Keating, two men with similar goals, to become the greatest architect
yet the two take completely different paths to achieve this goal, but who really achieved true
success. The answer is simple, Howard Roark was the only one to achieve true success in the
end. The paths of these two men were very clearly divided, Keating choose one of kissing butt
and sacrificing all his morals just to succeed while Roark chooses a path of kick butt honesty and
staying true to himself. The first example of this is in the college. The Dean of Stanton expels
Roark for designing modernist architecture and refusing to draw architecture the... Show more

In this case, Keating falls in love with Dominique Francon, daughter of the esteemed Guy
Francon, owner of the firm Keating works for. However, when Dominique meets Roark and the
two fall in love, she ignores all of all of Keating s advances; even more so when Dominique
discovers Roark s true architectural prowess. The two then became secret lovers in the bedroom
despite Dominique continually ruining Roark in public. But then, as all else goes, Roark falls on
hard times again. Another journalist, Ellsworth Toohey creates an elaborate plan to have Roark
ruined. The plan was to hire Roark to build a temple then sue him for his creation. And of course
Roark loses the court case, causing him to lose all of his money and Dominique. Meanwhile
Keating is probably sitting up in a fancy penthouse drinking fancy alcohol and continually
designing meek and unoriginal pieces of architecture. And to had a cherry on top to the already
tragic sundae, Keating and Dominique wed, leaving Roark broke, heart broken, and

Automatic Active phase selector
Abstract:
Phase absence is a very common and severe problem in any industry, home or office. Many times
one or two phases may not be live in three phase supply. Because of this, many times, some
electrical appliances will be on in one room and OFF in another room. This creates a big
disturbance to our routine work.
This project is designed to check the availability of any live phase, and the load will be connected
to the particular live phase only. Even a single phase is available, and then also, the load will be in
ON condition.
The aim of this project is to construct a single phasing monitor and prevention system using 8bit

Essay on Samuel by Grace Paley
Francis1 Samuel lessons learned The story Samuel by Grace Paley takes place on a moving
subway headed towards the Bronx. The passengers introduce Samuel and friends as tough little
boys that are not afraid of anything. The boys are just being boys is also used. Many of the
passengers had opportunities to tell them to calm down or even to tell them to stop. This could of
have prevented the death of Samuel. Some men relive their childhood through the boy s and many
of the ladies shaking their head with disapproval. A woman passenger does approach the boys only
to be laughed at when she warns them about their behavior. As another onlooker thinks he is doing

In the end, Samuel dies a tragic death. The cord puller action did more harm than helping the
situation. A tone is the way the author conveys his or her unstated attitudes toward the story.
The tone from the beginning to the end of Samuel is a serious tone. Some boys are very tough.
They re afraid of nothing. The description Paley gives in the first two sentences makes you feel
that the tone is going to be serious. Another example can be when the ladies in subway car
become angry when they look at the boys. Most of them brought their brows together and hoped
the boys could see their disapproval . They convey the serious tone through the way they feel
through facial expressions. Thoughts of one of the women passenger s shows a mothers concern
when she attempts to confront the boys. One of the ladies wanted to get up and say, be careful
you dumb kids, get off the platform or I ll call the cop. The tone makes the situation serious tone
even if it was thought and not an action. In another paragraph her action show the seriousness of
the situation when thinks of her own child. She stood up with determination and went to the door.
Her action tells us that tone was not to be taken lightly and it was a serious matter. Foreshadowing
is to show or indicate an action to be coming. Although the story is centered around Samuel, it is
actually told by the passengers who witness the turn of events of Samuel and his friends Alfred,

Community Service At The Ymca
Our group, which consisted of Ricardo Carrillo, Emilee Cocuzzo, Sidd Dogra, Wurood
Mandawi, and Trung Ngo, worked collectively on putting on a successful bingo and bake sale
night for the YMCA. We ended up raising $ to help with the teenagers of the YMCA to go on
their annual college trip during the summer. When assigned to our group, we had a meeting
about what we wanted to do. Looking through the list of organizations, the general consensus
was to do something with kids. Specifically, we decided to go with the YMCA or the Boys and
Girls Club. If those failed, we also wanted to do something with the elderly or with a soup
kitchen. However, contacting the YMCA was successful. Emilee Cocuzzo was the primary and
designated contact person to communicate with the YMCA. After a few emails and then finally a
phone call, Emilee was able to reach Amie Cox, the YMCA teenager coordinator. Amie wanted us
to come in and speak to the teenagers at the YMCA about community service because she wanted
them to be involved in this project. This led to us planning a PowerPoint for the teens about
community service with different ideas for events we can put on. On Monday, September 28th,
we visited the YMCA. We went into their conference room where we set up the computer and the
projector. Finally when the teens arrived, we presented a short PowerPoint about community
service and a few ideas for this event. We then broke off into two groups to get to know the kids a

Greek Theatre Development
In the 6th century BCE, a new form of recreation and entertainment was taking place. A new
artform would revolutionize civilization in ancient Greece, and subsequently, the rest of the world.
With this new artform came many inventions and developments that have surpassed centuries and
influenced future creativity. With these developments came the theatre of ancient Greece.
While some sources claim that Greek theatre began around the 6th century, other sources claim that
the origins are vague and subject to debate. There is, however, evidence suggesting that the origins
of Greek theatre can trace back to when Greek farmers would celebrate with feasts, music, and
dancing after a bountiful harvest. Evidence also suggests that Greek theatre also originated as
entertainment for the god Dionysos. There is also not much evidence of how early Greek theatres
were built as they were constantly rebuilt. So far, the only evidence of the ambiance and
environment surrounding Greek theatre is in vase paintings.
Once Greek theater took off, it suddenly became the talk of the town, and by the end of the 6th
century BCE, every city in ancient Greece would hold a theatre, which was usually built along a
slope so that audiences sitting the farthest would be able to see the play take place. These theatrons
, though constantly refurbished, had at least three sections: the orchestra, the skene, and the
audience. The orchestra was where all the acting and performances took place. It was the main

The Mexican drug war has been going on for many decades now affecting many generations. Drug

how mexico is perceived in the United States and rest of the world. The drug cartels have been

Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued
that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the
will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The
placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit
subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is
painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of
their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante
arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and
critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante
created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their
lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally
inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and
critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite
view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each
of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

The mass production of clothing allowed many people to have many different styles of clothing
that fit in with specific time periods. They were up to date fashion items that could easily be

clothing that was now available to everyone. The clothes created were specific to styles that
were popular at the time and if trends suddenly changed, it was not difficult to create new styles
that would be available to the people. This was a pivotal time for clothing because now styles
that were once limited were now available in variety. Also, with mass production came the shift
from women making their own clothes to just being able to purchase it already made and ready
for wear. Once mass production of women s clothing was established, it met the demand of the
rising urban professional class. (Source 1). During this time [1920 s] women were no longer

no longer a common practice. Mass production of women s clothing gave women an intake on the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Merger And Mergers
The deregulation of the economy has radically altered the business environment in India since
1991. With the changes brought about in the economic policies and the introduction of new
institutional mechanisms has provided the corporate sector with huge opportunities to exploit the
demands of the huge Indian market. Mergers, acquisitions and amalgamations have become major
means of consolidation of the industry. The corporate sector in India currently is finding a sudden

However, mainstreaming of these students has led to high failure rates among these students.
Statistically speaking, of the total amount of educators currently teaching, less than 30 % of
educators those are qualified to teach these students. Correspondingly, Less than 17 percent of

High Speed And Wide Bandwidth Of Technology
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Analog to digital converters (ADCs) is a mixed signal processing device that converts analog
signals which are real world signals to digital signals for processing the information. With the
advancement of technology, digital signal processing has progressed prominently in recent years.
The aim of design is low power, high speed and wide bandwidth analog to digital converter has
increased tremendously. Therefore the focus of this thesis is to design low power Flash ADC
that operates at high speed. Integration at very large scale a new architectures, and advances in
integrated circuit (IC) technology have dramatically changed the design of these systems and
created new areas of research and development. By the evolution of technology the transistor size
is reduces and the response of transistor is being faster. The evalution of design is deals with a
high speed (above 250MHz) but has low resolution (2 to 8 bits) as with small die area which is
called System on a chip (SoC). In this trend a large number of transistor is integrated on a single
chip, it is a challenge for a developer who designs an analog circuit for high speed applications
these are analog to digital and digital to analog converters (ADCs and DACs) that also maintains
other desirable attributes like low power consumption and small chip area.
The main objective for the consideration a designed ADCs for the complete SoC are high speed
and low power consumption. For a Low

The American dream, to live life to the fullest with the ideal that every United States citizen

Spurlock also tried to limit himself to as little activity as possible without staying at home all the

forces Spurlock Now this is not to say that what Spurlock does is that of the average person. His
intention was to over exaggerate the conditions, and the amount of food, to show the long term
effects of fast food on our bodies. Spurlock s definition for an average person, is not to be viewed
at 100% true, because he has massive generalization and has put all Americans into one bucket.
Although he also does indicate that most New Yorkers walk an average of 6 miles a day which is
far more than three to five thousand steps (Spurlock, 2004). Spurlock doctors were correct in the

What Is Peru Caused By Political Violence
Peru is a country long plagued by political violence. The Shining Path is by far the largest and most
successful of Peru s terrorist organizations. Shining Path initiated its first operations against the
Lima regime in 1980. In the intervening years, it quickly became the most serious security problem
that the Peruvian government faced. Few political movements, inside or outside of Peru, could
match its fanaticism and extreme ideology. The Shining Path must be singled out for its simple
ruthlessness. Murder, dynamite bombings, and arson are its instruments of political violence. Few
terrorist groups in modern times have employed violence with the same determination, lack of
discrimination, and widespread effect as the Shining Path.

Environmental Pollution And Its Effects On The Environment
Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems the world faces today. Pollution troubles
humans economically, physically, and everyday of our lives. The outbreak of diseases is linked
to the contamination of the environment; however, most people do not know about this problem.
This fact shows that increasing environmental pollution needs to be taken care of a soon as
possible, not only for the good of the environment, but also for the people that live in it. Although
environmental pollution can be caused by natural events such as forest fires and active volcanoes,
use of the word pollution generally implies that the contaminants have an anthropogenic source
that is, a source created by human activities ( Pollution. ). Many factors explain why
environmental pollution has become such a large issue in the world. Air and water pollution has
been caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Most of the rivers are polluted and ninety percent of
urban water bodies are polluted. Half of china does not have access to clean water. Regulations are
passed to regulate pollution, but they are not monitored. The Chinese government deals with the
punishment of pollution, it spends two hundred billion dollars each year on pollution problems
(Desonie 35). However, if the people of the world were to act on this problem, it would definitely
help both the environment and the people. There are many activities that can be done by both the
common citizen to the governments of the world, which

Essay On Abigail Adams
With the increase in popularity of the musical Hamilton: An American Musical, the stories of the
founding fathers are getting told. However, though there are a few females mentioned in the
musical, none of them made as much of an impact and deserve as much credit as Abigail Adams.
Born Abigail Smith in 1744, she grew up in Massachusetts with a decently wealthy family, which
resulted in the opportunity to obtain a good education. Though she was schooled at home, she read
all she could and took an interest in knowledge and politics early in her life, which only grew with
her marriage to John Adams(Martinez). With this marriage, she became involved in a great deal of
politics, and therefore had influence, which she most commonly used in her... Show more content

Abigail herself educated a free black boy, and even defended herself when she was attacked for
it. In a private defense of her actions to John Adams, she explains her reasoning for doing this,
saying: The Boy is a Freeman as much as any of the young Men, and merely because his Face is
Black, is he to be denied instruction? How is he to be qualified to procure a livelihood? Is this
the Christian principle of doing to others, as we would have others do to us? (Adams, Abigail 13
February 1797). This piece of the letter ensures two facts: that Abigail is an advocator for justice,
and that she is an advocator for Christianity. However, unlike many people at the time, her advocacy
for justice speaks much louder than her Christian advocacy.
One of Abigail s other main focuses was female empowerment, and not just through education:
she recognized the effectiveness of her own power around the home, and wanted other women to
use their potential as well. One of Abigail s most notable positions of power was her relationship
not only with her husband, John Adams, but also his presidential successor, Thomas Jefferson.
Abigail not only had relationships with both of them, but also served as a key witness to what life
was like in the colonies and out of congress, both domestically and politically (Adams, Abigail 1
July 1804). She also used this position to speak out against

The Learning Progression For Literacy
The act of reading is a process that involves a complexity of cognitive processes and
developmental stages. Recent research has shifted the paradigm of thinking of what range of skills
serves as the foundation of literacy. Skilled readers need language development, conceptual
knowledge base, and a broad vocabulary. Children must have sufficient decoding skills that are
composed of smaller elements of speech known as phonological awareness and letter sound
correspondence. In addition, readers must have the ability to fluently and easily recognize these
words. But to attain a high level of skills, young children need opportunities to develop these
strands, not in isolation, but interactively. (Neuman, Copple, Bredekamp, 2000)
The Stages of Reading Chall s developmental stages of reading clearly define the learning
progression for literacy. It is evident that language is the vital component of a reading foundation.
The Pre reading stage marks the importance of oral language development. Verbal abilities are
consistently the best predictors of later reading achievement (Scarborough, 2001). This beginning
stage demonstrates how the visual perceptual and cognitive processes are at work (Cunningham
2000). As the child progresses to Stage 1, the sounds are starting to make a connection with letter
strings within words (grapho phonic cues). Now the child understands what the D sound is
representing. Letter combinations are making their way into long term memory to form the

Essay on Running and Over Training
Even though some experts believe that excessive running is detrimental to the human body, and
others believe any amount of running is one of the key components in most athletes, Still others
believe that moderation between both extremes can benefit your sport.
Running may have a heavier toll on the body than any other sport, literally. With each stride, force
of two to three times the bodies weight is hammered on the joint, muscles, and tendons.
How much running is too much running? is there too much of a good thing? There is and it is most
commonly referred to as over training. Over training is by definition the imbalance between

The Importance Of A 3d Supportive Structure
As mentioned before, in tissue regeneration is of crucial importance the use of a 3D supportive
structure because when cells are seeded into these scaffolds enables the proliferation of cells and
chondrogenic differentiation; and with it the three dimensional tissue formation. Scaffolds must be
able to withstand physiological loading until sufficient tissue regeneration occurs. Moreover, the
material must be sufficiently porous to allow for effective transport of nutrients. Finally, it should
be biocompatible and, if biodegradable, degrade as the tissue matrix is produced leaving only
nontoxic degradation products.

Example Of Peer Review
I have always found the peer review process to be beneficial on both ends, whether you are the
writer or the reader, are being reviewed or are the reviewer. Having multiple sets of eyes
proofread your paper should help more than hurt. It is your choice if you want to take the advice
your peers gave. You have the option of not making any changes at all, so whether you decide to
take the advice or not, it does not hurt to receive them. In Paper One, I found that peer reviewing
others was a bit difficult because any comments made could be offending them. I felt that I would

The Failures Of The Public School System Essay
The Failures of the Public School System
All across the United States, there are schools that are struggling financially and culturally due to
different socio economic challenges. Some of these challenges cannot be avoided, although many
of them could be avoided. One of these problems that could be avoided is the act of
institutionalized separation of rich and poor. If integration was more focused the school systems in
certain parts of a city would not be understaffed and underfunded. In the documentary Waiting for
Superman there were many different points made by the filmmaker that in the modern Education
system people are believing that teachers are the only ones responsible for the success of their
students. In the film states that people should not wait for Superman to come to the rescue; look in
the mirror. We need to understand that it is not just the schools and teachers that are accountable
for students performance . This idea can be seen not only in the film, but in Sheryll Cashin s The
Failures of Integration. A piece of literature that discusses the modern education system and the
organizations within them in the United States. Waiting for Superman argues that the public school
system in the United States is failing due to poor performing teachers in schools. When The
Failures of Integration argues that race and socioeconomic impact is more important than the
teachers in the failing schools. Schools in large city centers are failing faster than schools in

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Religion
Obsessive Disorder and ReligionObsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects up to 2.1% of
adults and features pervasive and intrusive thoughts that lead to repetitive uncontrollable behaviors
aimed to reduce anxiety (APA, 2000). Further, these thoughts and behaviors impede and disrupt
daily living and cause marked distress in the lives of the sufferer. The recurrent thoughts often
center on fear of contamination, harming self or others, and illness (Himle, Chatters, Taylor, and
Nguyen, 2011). Those who experience the compulsive behaviors associated with OCD report
feeling as though they cannot stop or control the urge to perform the compulsive behavior and that

The behaviors that once brought relief now cause distress. Although OCD is recognizable even
by non clinically trained individuals, the presence of religious beliefs influences people s
judgment of others with OCD symptoms. Yossifova and Loewenthal (1999) used case vignettes
to investigate how people perceived OCD in religious and non religious people. The case
vignettes portrayed a non religious individual and a religious individual exhibiting OCD
symptomatology. The researchers found participants judged those seen as religious more often as
having OCD than they judged those who were non religious to have OCD. In other words, those
who are religious are more likely to be perceived as having OCD than those who are not religious.
Interestingly however, those who have ROCD tend to view their condition as having religious
roots rather than related to psychiatric issues, which is consistent with the lack of insight
commonly associated with ROCD (Siev, Baer Minichello, 2011). Just as the presence of religious
beliefs influence others judgment of OCD, culture and religious affiliation also influence the
identification and expression of ROCD. Abramowitz et al.(2004) contend the presentation of
ROCD symptoms are expressed according to religious affiliation and culture of origin. For example,
those who follow the practices of Hinduism usually present with obsessions and compulsions

Ian s perspective, it is clear that he is endeavoring to understand both sides of the story. Ian s

Earth, countries, and communities are all composed of individuals, these individuals are formed
based off of their living and learning environment. The term global citizenship can seem confusing
and goes misunderstood at times. It is important to keep in mind that this term is a bit vague and
can have multiple meanings to different people. To sum up the overall meaning of this term, is an
individual that realizes and accept the world and all it s diversity. An individual that takes part of
the bigger picture that contributes to building better communities, intergroup and outer groups that
are full of values, purpose and solutions. My life experienced and my general education courses
have had an immense influence on my identity as well as my view point on what it means to be a
global citizenship
According to the video Global Education and Global Citizenship (2011), there are several reasons
as to why educating others on global citizenship important. It stated that the teaching of global
citizenship or global community is being taught to the young students for the reason that it is the
younger generation that has the ability, knowledge power and openness to grasp the concept of
becoming a global citizen. This will ensure that the future of the world s problems as well as the
global development is shared and understood across the globe rather than nationally. The video
express that becoming a part of the global community will provide

Voting Behaviour At UK Elections Is Determined More By...
Voting behaviour at UK elections is determined more by issues of personality and image than on
the basis of policies or performance in office . Discuss. In recent times it may be argued that
personality and image has played a huge part in the voting behaviour of the electorate in the UK.
The personality and image may refer to the personality of the party leader and how they present
themselves in their campaign. This is a short term factor and in a time where long term factors
are not said to play a huge role, as there is party de alignment and a change in the class structure,
perceptions of party leadership can play a huge role in determining voting behaviour. It may
always have been recognised as a factor but now its influence may have... Show more content on

In 1997, Labour were very much in touch with the electorate and focused on salient issues,
whereas the conservatives focused on issues such as trade unions and devolution which were
not deemed as salient. This benefitted Labour as they gained a huge win at this election and
rather than personality playing a huge part, it may have been their policies. Another
contributing factor at this election may have been performance in office, which in the above
statement is not seen as important as personality and image. However, performance in office
may have been extremely detrimental for the conservatives in 1997 because of their crisis in
1992. This focuses on the retrospective model, as people saw the Conservatives as incompetent
in handling the economy because of Black Wednesday in September 1992. The Conservatives
and especially Noramnt Lamont, Chancellor of the Exchequer, were to blame for the crisis that
saw the pound forced out of the ERM. This didn t help at the 1997 general election where they
did extremely badly in a huge Labour win. Personality and image does play a huge part in voting
behaviour and will continue to do so in 2015, where Ed Milliband s leadership will come into
question and could affect Labour s chances a lot. However, it is still not enough to suggest that
personality and image are larger determinants in voting behaviour than on the basis of policies or
performance in office. It is difficult to see

Dangers Of Social Cohesion
There are many different ideas about humanity and how it works and what things make it work
the best. There are some sociology theorist have a more positive view on humanity and believe
that humanity works best when people have relationships and more human interaction thus
creating society and its regulations as we know them. There are many benefits of social
cohesion, but there are also downfalls of this as well according to some theorist and these are
referred to as social control. Social cohesion is when those in a social system identify with it and
feel bound to support it, especially its norms, beliefs, and values. Social control is how a
community or society regulates a person s behavior. Ultimately, the benefits of social cohesion
outweigh the dangers of social control. Without the benefits of social cohesion, the dangers of
social control would be intensified because of the lack thereof. Durkheim, Erikson, Putnam and
Collins are theorists who all take a stance on the benefits of social cohesion. Some of their ideas
are identical to one another or have some similar points and all connect in some way. Durkheim
says that social cohesion protects people from anomie and anomic suicide. Anomie is defined as
the lack of social integration and regulation or the lack of the usual social or ethical standards in
an individual or group. During a period if anomie, people feel disconnected from their society
because they no longer see the norms and values that they are

Ani s Afterlife
The Hopeful Afterlife of Ani:
Ancient Egyptian Culture and Myth in the Book of the Dead The unique culture of ancient Egypt
has attracted a great deal of attention in recent times due in no small part to the discovery of written
documentation found entombed within the pyramids. Piecing together the elements of Egyptian
myth, like reuniting the parts of Osiris scattered body, has proven an ambitious undertaking for
scholars, historians and theologians alike. The Egyptian Book of the Dead is the best and most
comprehensive volume of funerary texts available for present study. It is known to include and

knowledge of the religion of dynastic Egypt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Developed over the centuries from earlier funerary texts, it has been determined that BoDs were in
use in ancient Egypt from the New Kingdom beginning c.1550BC and were discontinued around
50BC (Fleming; see Figure 1 for timeline). Although eventually a standardization process took place
during the 25th and 26th Dynasties, the BoD was never canonized (Stevenson). This is understood
to be because it is not a religious text but a funerary document, a commissioned postmortem
possession intended to guide one successfully through the underworld after death. BoDs, then, vary
quite a lot, as they are unique to the individual and the religious thinking of times to which he or she

If I could make any law, what would it be and why?
When a law is passed, it can have a large effect on the citizens of that area. It has been said that
the first year of a child s life is the basic foundation of their entire life. In order to make that first
year successful, money, time and of course love are critical. However because the current policies
that exist in America, mothers are denied an easy balance between work, money, and time for their
children. The current policies regarding maternity leave are extremely outdated and need to be
reformed to accommodate mothers in this day and age. If I could create a law in America, it
would be a law upgrading the Family and Medical Leave Act, requiring all employers ... Show more

According to the National Partnership, 76% of respondents of a survey favored updating the
Family Medical Leave Act. Also, 84% of people under 30 favored updating the act, and 72% of
people over 65 favor the updating of the act. Some believe that paid leave will be extremely bad
timing, will be difficult to fund, and that the government should focus on the fiscal cliff instead.
However, in the long run having paid maternity leave will result in saving money.
There is a direct relationship between the amount of leave one is granted, and breastfeeding
rates. In a 2010 study it said the US could prevent 900 deaths of infants and save 13 billion
dollars per year if 90% of women breastfeed exclusively for the first six months of their child s
life. As of 2010, only 43% of babies in America are breastfed for six months. Women are not able
to breastfeed exclusively due to the high demands of work. Some believe that updating the Family
Medical Leave Act will create debt but the findings of this study say it can actually help the
economy and save lives.
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, mothers who return to work soon after
the birth of a child are more likely to become depressed and are less healthy than mothers who do
not, and one third of mothers end up in debt after childbirth due to having unpaid maternity leave.
When a woman has access to paid leave after birth they are more

The Discovery Of The Dna
Scientist Who Co Discovered the DNA Says Our Genes Were Brought Here by Aliens
Francis Crick (8 June 1916 28 July 2004) was an English scientist who was most noted for being a
co discoverer of the structure of the DNA molecule in 1953 alongside James D. Watson.
Francis Crick Watson and Maurice Wilkins were jointly awarded the 1962 Nobel Prizefor
Physiology for Medicine for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids
and its significance for information transfer in living material.
He was clearly a brilliant scientist who unfortunately, like many other brilliant minds who came up
with theories that challenged the accepted frameworks at the time, wasn t given much press.

After all, theories like this aren t just born out of nowhere and this gentleman won the Nobel Prize
for the study of DNA. Thoughts like this should not be taken lightly and evidence should be
examined to see if it s a plausible hypothesis.
Please keep in mind while reading this article that, although we ve discovered much, we have yet to
identify the biological functions of large portions of our DNA.
There is so much mystery wrapped in what could possibly hold the answer to life itself and the
origins of the human race.
A few years ago, Chandra Wickramasinghe, the Director of the Buckingham Centre for
Astrobiology at the University of Buckingham in the U.K., published a paper regarding their
supposed findings of the first ever evidence of extraterrestrial life found in a celestial body.
At the time, Wickramasinghe pointed out to Huffington Post how, in 1962:
Hoyle and I pioneered the theory of carbon grains in space to replace the old ice grain theory. This
was vehemently resisted by the astronomical community at the outset, but with the dawn of infrared
spectroscopy, the ice grain theory gave way to the carbon dust theory.
Over a few years, after a great deal of model fitting, we came to the conclusion that material similar
to biomaterial fitted all the available data in astronomy. We considered the possibility that
microbiology had a universal character, and no observations in astronomy or new information from

Essay On The Nutcracker
In modern times, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky s ballet, The Nutcracker, is a Christmas classic. With
memorable songs and beautiful instrumentation, many cannot imagine Christmas without it. Dance
companies perform the ballet year after year with spectators coming to watch annually. There have
even been LGBT, hip hop, and Jewish adaptations to the popular ballet (Begley). Thousands of
musicians and dancers all over the world perform it to add to the excitement and cheer of the
holidays. The original story of The Nutcrackerstarted with ETA. Hoffmann s 1816 tale The
Nutcracker and the Mouse King that had been adapted by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 about a girl
who befriends a nutcracker on Christmas Eve and battles against the evil Mouse King (Schwarm).
In 1892, the director of the Russian Imperial Theatre, following the success of Tchaikovsky s
Sleeping Beauty, devised the ballet, setting ito Tchaikovsky s music with choreography by Marius
Petipa, and premiering it a week before Christmas (Burton Hill). Tchaikovsky first accepted the
task to write the music from the director of Moscow s Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky
(History of The Nutcracker). He began to work while on an American tour for the opening of
Carnegie Hall. His tour took him through Paris, where he discovered a new instrument: the celesta.
It had a clear, bell like tone that was perfectly fitted to be the voice of his Sugar Plum Fairy. He
immediately wrote to his publisher, asking that the instrument be

The Opium Wars In China
My first choice is the Opium Wars. Throughout the beginning of major overseas exploration and
trade, China had remained with its doors closed to most foreigners. Tobacco was one product that
China did buy from Europeans in the seventeenth century (WTWA 4th ed. 588). Not long after,
opium was integrated into the cigarettes (notes. Nov. 26). In 1729, Chinabanned the import of
Opium, but it continued to circulate in the Chinese society (WTW 4th ed. 588). In the early 19th
century, Britain was comfortable with selling drugs to China. This upset the Chinese, so they seized
and destroyed one of Britain s opium shipments. In turn, Britain wanted compensation and a war
broke out. This lead to the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing, in which the Chinese... Show more

Confucius continues to be in my top 3 because of his outlook on education. It is important to me
that education is available to all, and Confucius ideals parallel with that. On the other hand,
neither the Black Plague nor the World Pandemic are related to education, but they are both
natural causes of large scale deaths among the human race. I think it is important to note that
wars are not the only way that large groups of people are killed. It is also important to realize
how these illnesses are spread; trade does not only mean exchange of goods, but bugs as well.
Therefore, I believe that the Black Plague and the World Pandemic clearly represent the broader
effects of travel and interaction between different people. I have one final thought: if everyone
was educated, (like Confucius desired), maybe the spread of such viruses would not be as
prevalent for people would know more about such

Fast Fashion On Fast Food Industry
Slow Fashion
Fast fashion is a force that needs constant change from retailers; new garments and new trends cycle
out as fast as a bi weekly basis, putting pressure on the industry to sell fast and cheap to the
consumer. However, with the news publishing more articles about the working conditions in
factories, comparable to the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, and the run off pollution these
factories produce, the consumer is demanding more transparency in the supply chain. The
introduction to slow fashion came from this demand of wanting a better understanding of the
garments we wear, similar to the slow food movement that surfaced from the fast food industry. The
slow food movement began in Italy in the 1980s as a reaction to the ... Show more content on

Slowing down the consumption that is encouraged by fast fashion will help reduce raw materials
and decrease fashion production, allowing the earth time to regenerate and heal from the damage
industry creates to the environment (1B). Linda Greer, a senior scientist at the NRDC (Natural
Resources Defense Council, believes that the slow fashion movement will hold large retailers
accountable for its manufacturing aboard. Clean by Design is a program created by the NRDC that
works with retailers to green the fashion supply chain (4B). These types of programs will assist with
the large companies meeting the needs of the new movement of ethical consumerism where
consumers are demanding that the clothes they buy do not harm the environment or the workers
who made them (11B, pg.200).
Another aspect of the slow fashion movement is supporting the development of local businesses
by focusing on using local resources and materials, these companies take the claim of slow and
put it into practice by creating high quality and durable pieces with attentiveness in an
environmental way (1B). Many small businesses keep traditional methods of garment and textile
making, giving meaning to the products and how they were made. (1B) Kate Fletcher, a design
academic, explains, making a garment last is very different to making a long lasting garment (3,
pg. 227). Slow fashion pieces are to be worn for a long time, creating emotional durability that

The Village Of Pleasantville Board Meetings Essay
. The village of Pleasantville conducts public board meetings every second and fourth Monday of
each month. On rare occasions, for further discussion on serious issues or concerns of
Pleasantville, the village board will conduct meetings like a public hearing on other weekdays.
These meetings are located in the conference room on the second floor of the Village hall, which is
also next to the PleasantvillePolice Station. The village board consists of four trustees Steven
Lord, Mindy Berard, Colleen Griffin Wagner and Joseph Stargiotti a mayor Peter Scherer a
village clerk Judith Weintraub and the village administrator Patricia Dwyer. The village board
members were dressed in semi casual business attire, which appropriately fit their position. The
members sat in a congressional layout, which looked like the formation of a half circle or
crescent. This allowed the audience to see each individual s face and it is easier to identify who
is speaking. They also used parliamentary motions when they spoke. The purpose of the village of
Pleasantville board meetings is to discuss and resolve present issues and future events that are
happening or are expected to happen in the Pleasantville area. Residents have the opportunity to
either post questions for the village board to answer on their website or they can call the board live
on the telephone. The trustees and the mayor usually dominated the entire conversation and were
the only people who were permitted to speak during the

Transmitting System Theory to Human Resource Management
Essay on Transmitting social system theory to human resource management Human resource
management can be considered as the most complex field of an organisation. Assuming that this
statement is true one could raise the question why human resource management is more diverse
than the other fields in an organisation as finance or sales. The answer will be always the same. It
is because of the individual, playing a major role within everyday s HR work environment. This
essay discusses what impact a less individual concentrated approach would have on human resource
management. This does not mean that the importance of the individual will be devalued. The essay

474; Sciortino, 2006, A comment on Talcott Parsons at Brown University, p. 66). The main focus of
this essay shall be set on the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927 1998) who developed an
ambitious as well as general theory of society and social systems. This theory understands social
systems as recursive networks of communication and observation (Fuchs, 1999, p. 117). Luhmann
considers organisations as autopoietically closed systems, which consist of communication or
decisions (e.g. decisions, actions). The social system theory for example regards the base of an
organisation as not open to the environment, whereas the rest of the system depends on the
environmental influences. Autopoietically closed means that they reproduce the elements they
consist of out of the element they consist of. These systems are also called a self referential system,
which basically means that there are systems, which have the ability to create a relation with itself
and differentiate this relationship towards its environment. Self referential systems are able to
differentiate between relations happening inside the system and outside the system, which creates
the awareness for the self referential system to

Avery Ladies and gentlemen of the court, I have been charged with investigating, and bringing to the attention of the court the entire background and character of T.J. Avery from an impartial point of view. These are my findings. T.J. Avery comes from a sharecropping family which live and work on Mr. Gangers land; they are poor and lack financial independence. T.J. s father is a weak old man and in consequence lacks the physical strength to punish him, for anything he does wrong. T.J. has almost no principles, so he has no problem with getting others in trouble when he was the one who was the cause... Prior to this T.J. had been caught rummaging threw Misses Logan s books at her desk looking for the test, after sneaking into her room, while visiting the Logan household as a friend of the Logan children. T.J. is befriended by R.W. and Melvin Simms, who buy him alcohol at The Wallace Store. T.J. is proud of this friend ship with the two white boys, but T.J. is disgusted that Grand Mother Logan wanted to see Mr Wade W. Jamison, who is an attorney at Law. This is while he was visiting the town of Strawberry with Grand Mother Logan and the Logan children. Also while in strawberry Stacey Logan is foolishly persuaded by T.J. to go into the white mans store, which is other wise know as The Barnett Mercantile, while in the mercantile T.J. is mesmerised by the peal handled pistol. Later that month Stacey Logan is given I new coat form his Uncle, Hammer Logan, T.J. mocks him and his coat, saying that he looked like a fat preacher because the coat was a bit big on him at the time, later T.J. cons Stacy into lending him the coat until Stacey ... • 3. The Attack Of The Bombing Of September Anita Kaplan September 11, 2001 began as a beautiful day with a clear blue sky, yet today people recognize it as the single largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack (September 11, 2001 2016). These attacks conducted by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, killed thousands of people and left their loved ones shocked and devastated. At first, the people thought the plane crashing into one of the twin towers was just an accident; it was not until the second collision that people realized America was truly under attack. Though this tragedy lasted only a day, people continue to feel the effects 15 years later, and most likely will in the future. After this terrible day, the security at many places such as airports was strengthened greatly. Many people, however, continue to live with the looming fear that another tragedy like this may recur. The attacks of September 11, 2001 greatly affected my mother, Anita Kaplan, because after that tragic day, she became paranoid in regards to the safety of her and her family, afraid to travel on airplanes, and more aware of both the world news and her surroundings. The events of September 11th did not arise out of thin air, but rather came from decades of terrorismand the creation of the terrorist group: Al Qaeda. According to Karl DeRouen, terrorism is the use of violence as a means of instilling terror or fear for political or ideological gains (DeRouen 2016). This terrorist group was doing just that: using violence to implant fear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Touted to be a universal operating system that would work on all computers, it was supposed to allow computer purchasers to use the same software on various brands of computers. It has worked that way but is subject to crashing at any given time for no apparent reason. Apple s operating system has none of those flaws and users taunt PC users regularly. Apple has even used these taunts in advertising with its I am a Mac and I am a PC series of ads. Product differentiation is the purpose but loyal Mac users would not substitute a PC for a Mac, believing the Mac to be unique. 3.4.4Rivalry among competing firms Due to Apple s wide platform of products there is a threat of substitute products from an assortment of firms. • 5. American Slavery in 1600s American Slavery Slavery became an established activity in America by 1600 s. The slaves were mostly to provide free and cheap labor. Apart from America, slavery was practiced in other parts of the world throughout history, and in fact it can be traced back to the time of the ancient civilization. With industrial revolution especially with the rise of sugar plantations, the slaves were used to grow sugar in the periods from 1100. This intensified between 1400 and 1500 when Portugal and Spain ventured into sugar growing in the eastern Atlantic regions. The growth of the plantations required labor, hence African slaves were bought from Africa, to provide labor. As the Europeans set up colonies in America, they brought the plantation ideas with them, which led to the need for labor hence they tried to enslave the Native Americans to work in their mines and fields. The Native Americans were prone to diseases hence most of them died as a result of diseases and overworking. Apart from the ones who died, a number rebelled and formed alliances forcing the Europeans to look for other sources of labor. They started to acquire African slaves due to a number of reasons: The African slaves were more stronger and immune to a number of diseases in Europe and America; the Africans had no friends and family in America hence it was not easy for them to form alliances or to escape; they provided a permanent and a cheap source of labor; and most of them had worked on farms before in their ... After discovering his disability Mr Jones s employers removed him from his driving duties for health and safety issues, as their policy was that any drivers receiving insulin treatment should not carry on in their existing role in case they suffered a hypo attack whilst driving. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end the enduring legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of American culture (Haddock). Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 2, 1908. He was the considerable grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic Republic of the Congo; his granddad was likewise a slave. In the wake of moving on from graduate school, Marshall began a private law firm in Baltimore. He started his 25 year alliance with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1934 by speaking to the association in the graduate school segregation suit Murray v. Howard Roark and Peter Keating, two men with similar goals, to become the greatest architect yet the two take completely different paths to achieve this goal, but who really achieved true success. The answer is simple, Howard Roark was the only one to achieve true success in the end. The paths of these two men were very clearly divided, Keating choose one of kissing butt and sacrificing all his morals just to succeed while Roark chooses a path of kick butt honesty and staying true to himself. The two then became secret lovers in the bedroom despite Dominique continually ruining Roark in public. But then, as all else goes, Roark falls on hard times again. Another journalist, Ellsworth Toohey creates an elaborate plan to have Roark ruined. The plan was to hire Roark to build a temple then sue him for his creation. And of course Roark loses the court case, causing him to lose all of his money and Dominique. Another example can be when the ladies in subway car become angry when they look at the boys. Most of them brought their brows together and hoped the boys could see their disapproval . They convey the serious tone through the way they feel through facial expressions. Thoughts of one of the women passenger s shows a mothers concern when she attempts to confront the boys. One of the ladies wanted to get up and say, be careful you dumb kids, get off the platform or I ll call the cop. The tone makes the situation serious tone even if it was thought and not an action. In another paragraph her action show the seriousness of the situation when thinks of her own child. She stood up with determination and went to the door. Her action tells us that tone was not to be taken lightly and it was a serious matter. Foreshadowing is to show or indicate an action to be coming. Community Service At The Ymca Our group, which consisted of Ricardo Carrillo, Emilee Cocuzzo, Sidd Dogra, Wurood Mandawi, and Trung Ngo, worked collectively on putting on a successful bingo and bake sale night for the YMCA. We ended up raising $ to help with the teenagers of the YMCA to go on their annual college trip during the summer. When assigned to our group, we had a meeting about what we wanted to do. Looking through the list of organizations, the general consensus was to do something with kids. Specifically, we decided to go with the YMCA or the Boys and Girls Club. If those failed, we also wanted to do something with the elderly or with a soup kitchen. However, contacting the YMCA was successful. Emilee Cocuzzo was the primary and designated contact person to communicate with the YMCA. After a few emails and then finally a phone call, Emilee was able to reach Amie Cox, the YMCA teenager coordinator. Amie wanted us to come in and speak to the teenagers at the YMCA about community service because she wanted them to be involved in this project. This led to us planning a PowerPoint for the teens about community service with different ideas for events we can put on. On Monday, September 28th, we visited the YMCA. We went into their conference room where we set up the computer and the projector. Finally when the teens arrived, we presented a short PowerPoint about community service and a few ideas for this event. We then broke off into two groups to get to know the kids a ... A new artform would revolutionize civilization in ancient Greece, and subsequently, the rest of the world. With this new artform came many inventions and developments that have surpassed centuries and influenced future creativity. With these developments came the theatre of ancient Greece. While some sources claim that Greek theatre began around the 6th century, other sources claim that the origins are vague and subject to debate. There is, however, evidence suggesting that the origins of Greek theatre can trace back to when Greek farmers would celebrate with feasts, music, and dancing after a bountiful harvest. Evidence also suggests that Greek theatre also originated as entertainment for the god Dionysos. There is also not much evidence of how early Greek theatres were built as they were constantly rebuilt. So far, the only evidence of the ambiance and environment surrounding Greek theatre is in vase paintings. Once Greek theater took off, it suddenly became the talk of the town, and by the end of the 6th century BCE, every city in ancient Greece would hold a theatre, which was usually built along a slope so that audiences sitting the farthest would be able to see the play take place. These theatrons , though constantly refurbished, had at least three sections: the orchestra, the skene, and the audience. The orchestra was where all the acting and performances took place. • 18. Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High Speed And Wide Bandwidth Of Technology CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction Analog to digital converters (ADCs) is a mixed signal processing device that converts analog signals which are real world signals to digital signals for processing the information. With the advancement of technology, digital signal processing has progressed prominently in recent years. The aim of design is low power, high speed and wide bandwidth analog to digital converter has increased tremendously. Therefore the focus of this thesis is to design low power Flash ADC that operates at high speed. Integration at very large scale a new architectures, and advances in integrated circuit (IC) technology have dramatically changed the design of these systems and created new areas of research and development. By the evolution of technology the transistor size is reduces and the response of transistor is being faster. The evalution of design is deals with a high speed (above 250MHz) but has low resolution (2 to 8 bits) as with small die area which is called System on a chip (SoC). In this trend a large number of transistor is integrated on a single chip, it is a challenge for a developer who designs an analog circuit for high speed applications these are analog to digital and digital to analog converters (ADCs and DACs) that also maintains other desirable attributes like low power consumption and small chip area. Recent research has shifted the paradigm of thinking of what range of skills serves as the foundation of literacy. Skilled readers need language development, conceptual knowledge base, and a broad vocabulary. Children must have sufficient decoding skills that are composed of smaller elements of speech known as phonological awareness and letter sound correspondence. In addition, readers must have the ability to fluently and easily recognize these words. But to attain a high level of skills, young children need opportunities to develop these strands, not in isolation, but interactively. (Neuman, Copple, Bredekamp, 2000) The Stages of Reading Chall s developmental stages of reading clearly define the learning progression for literacy. It is evident that language is the vital component of a reading foundation. The Pre reading stage marks the importance of oral language development. Verbal abilities are consistently the best predictors of later reading achievement (Scarborough, 2001). This beginning stage demonstrates how the visual perceptual and cognitive processes are at work (Cunningham 2000). Having multiple sets of eyes proofread your paper should help more than hurt. It is your choice if you want to take the advice your peers gave. You have the option of not making any changes at all, so whether you decide to take the advice or not, it does not hurt to receive them. In Paper One, I found that peer reviewing others was a bit difficult because any comments made could be offending them. • 36. The Failures Of The Public School System Essay The Failures of the Public School System All across the United States, there are schools that are struggling financially and culturally due to different socio economic challenges. Some of these challenges cannot be avoided, although many of them could be avoided. One of these problems that could be avoided is the act of institutionalized separation of rich and poor. If integration was more focused the school systems in certain parts of a city would not be understaffed and underfunded. In the documentary Waiting for Superman there were many different points made by the filmmaker that in the modern Education system people are believing that teachers are the only ones responsible for the success of their students. In the film states that people should not wait for Superman to come to the rescue; look in the mirror. We need to understand that it is not just the schools and teachers that are accountable for students performance . This idea can be seen not only in the film, but in Sheryll Cashin s The Failures of Integration. A piece of literature that discusses the modern education system and the organizations within them in the United States. Further, these thoughts and behaviors impede and disrupt daily living and cause marked distress in the lives of the sufferer. The recurrent thoughts often center on fear of contamination, harming self or others, and illness (Himle, Chatters, Taylor, and Nguyen, 2011). Although OCD is recognizable even by non clinically trained individuals, the presence of religious beliefs influences people s judgment of others with OCD symptoms. Yossifova and Loewenthal (1999) used case vignettes to investigate how people perceived OCD in religious and non religious people. The case vignettes portrayed a non religious individual and a religious individual exhibiting OCD symptomatology. The researchers found participants judged those seen as religious more often as having OCD than they judged those who were non religious to have OCD. In other words, those who are religious are more likely to be perceived as having OCD than those who are not religious. Interestingly however, those who have ROCD tend to view their condition as having religious roots rather than related to psychiatric issues, which is consistent with the lack of insight commonly associated with ROCD (Siev, Baer Minichello, 2011). Just as the presence of religious beliefs influence others judgment of OCD, culture and religious affiliation also influence the identification and expression of ROCD. Abramowitz et al.(2004) contend the presentation of ROCD symptoms are expressed according to religious affiliation and culture of origin. Voting behaviour at UK elections is determined more by issues of personality and image than on the basis of policies or performance in office . Discuss. In recent times it may be argued that personality and image has played a huge part in the voting behaviour of the electorate in the UK. The personality and image may refer to the personality of the party leader and how they present themselves in their campaign. This is a short term factor and in a time where long term factors are not said to play a huge role, as there is party de alignment and a change in the class structure, perceptions of party leadership can play a huge role in determining voting behaviour. In 1997, Labour were very much in touch with the electorate and focused on salient issues, whereas the conservatives focused on issues such as trade unions and devolution which were not deemed as salient. This benefitted Labour as they gained a huge win at this election and rather than personality playing a huge part, it may have been their policies. Another contributing factor at this election may have been performance in office, which in the above statement is not seen as important as personality and image. However, performance in office may have been extremely detrimental for the conservatives in 1997 because of their crisis in 1992. This focuses on the retrospective model, as people saw the Conservatives as incompetent in handling the economy because of Black Wednesday in September 1992. The Conservatives and especially Noramnt Lamont, Chancellor of the Exchequer, were to blame for the crisis that saw the pound forced out of the ERM. This didn t help at the 1997 general election where they did extremely badly in a huge Labour win. Personality and image does play a huge part in voting behaviour and will continue to do so in 2015, where Ed Milliband s leadership will come into question and could affect Labour s chances a lot. There are some sociology theorist have a more positive view on humanity and believe that humanity works best when people have relationships and more human interaction thus creating society and its regulations as we know them. There are many benefits of social cohesion, but there are also downfalls of this as well according to some theorist and these are referred to as social control. Social cohesion is when those in a social system identify with it and feel bound to support it, especially its norms, beliefs, and values. Social control is how a community or society regulates a person s behavior. Ultimately, the benefits of social cohesion outweigh the dangers of social control. Without the benefits of social cohesion, the dangers of social control would be intensified because of the lack thereof. Durkheim, Erikson, Putnam and Collins are theorists who all take a stance on the benefits of social cohesion. Some of their ideas are identical to one another or have some similar points and all connect in some way. Durkheim says that social cohesion protects people from anomie and anomic suicide.
