COSTUME ANALYSIS
In this image of Ariana Grande, we can see her standing,
smiling at the camera. She is wearing a white top with
lace. The white suggests purity and innocence, so the
audience will know that she is young and innocent.
However, the thicker part of the top is quite low cut, and
the lace is fairly see-through. This suggests that although it
is clear that she has a pure, wholesome star image, she is
hinting that she can be flirtatious too.
Her skirt is hot pink. Pink is a connotation of her girly,
feminine side. The skirt is quite puffy, which suggests her
bouncy, light star image. It is also relatively short, so this
suggests her youth and playfulness. The effect of the
costume is that it makes her seem more playful.
Her ring is a star, which could show that she may like to be
thought of as a star. The hair band around her wrist
suggests that although she is a famous popstar, she still
carries hair bands as many normal teenagers do. This lets
us know that she is still quite down to earth, despite
being, a famous singer.
Her makeup is quite light, and not very excessive. Her eye
shadow is pink, and matches her skirt. This reminds us of
her girly personality. Her hair is wavy and that shows her
natural side.
Ariana’s costume reminds us of her girly, playful star
image. The effect of the costume is emphasised through
the way she has a playful look on her face, and the image
looks like she was caught while moving around.
In this image of Taylor Swift, we see her sitting on a elephant shaped
bush. The flower in her hair matches the colour of her shirt. The
flower also shows that she is girly and enjoys taking time to make
herself look nice. Taylor’s make up is quite natural as she is not
wearing too much mascara/eyeliner and her lipstick is pink which
matches the rest of her costume and blends in with the natural
background of the image. Her hair is down and in loose waves,
suggesting her femininity, while not straying from the natural them of
the image.
Taylor is wearing a light, cream coloured shirt, with pink patterns. This
suggests her light, fun personality. Her shirt is buttoned up, which
could suggest she is more modest than other artists. The shorter
sleeves show her youth.
The pink shorts show her femininity. They are a lighter colour which
shows that she is still a young, more innocent pop artist. The shorts
reveal her legs which may mean that although she is modest, she still
has a flirtatious side.
The pink shoes she wears on her feet confirm her femininity. The
shoelaces are also pink, so they match the costume, and tie in to her
feminine star image. They also show that although she is girly, she
may still like to play sports. It could also mean that she may like to
dance, as many of her fans will be dancing along to her music. The
shoes add quite a casual vibe that matches the outside setting.
Overall, her costume reminds the audience of her girly and playful star
image, and also how her music is fun and lively. The effect of the
costume is emphasised because she crosses her legs and has her
hands resting on the elephant in a very delicate way.
In this image we see the Saturdays posing, at different levels looking at the
camera.
They are wearing tops/ jumpers that have their initials on them. This allows us to
identify them, but also shows that even though they are a band, they each have
their own different personality, and that they bring their own individual ideas to
the group. They are also all different colours and styles, which confirms their
individuality. For example, Vanessa’s top is pink which could suggest she that she
is girly, and she is revealing her shoulder which may show she is more outgoing.
Molly’s top shows her stomach which could mean she is more flirtatious. Frankie’s
red jumper could hint that she is the more outgoing one in the group. The jumper
could suggest that she is a comforting person. Una’s cardigan is yellow, and yellow
signifies happiness. This mean that she is the most bright and cheerful one in the
group. Rochelle’s vest is blue. Blue can signify wisdom, which might mean that she
is the most mature one in the group.
They are all wearing denim shorts which reminds us of the fact that they are
united as a band. Also, denim is quite a casual material, which could imply that
they are still down to earth girls even though they are so successful. The length of
the shorts show their playful attitude. It also emphasises their youth and beauty.
All of The Saturdays are wearing the same white shoes. White is a connotation
that signifies innocence and purity, which tells us that the Saturdays are in fact a
fun and innocent girl band This reflects the fun, light hearted style of their music.
This also makes the audience positive in their knowledge of them being a strong,
unified group.
The costume is emphasised by the way they are posing as it makes them all look
more confident and outgoing. The costume highlights their individual
personalities, while still making them look like a band.

Costume analysis

  • 2. In this image of Ariana Grande, we can see her standing, smiling at the camera. She is wearing a white top with lace. The white suggests purity and innocence, so the audience will know that she is young and innocent. However, the thicker part of the top is quite low cut, and the lace is fairly see-through. This suggests that although it is clear that she has a pure, wholesome star image, she is hinting that she can be flirtatious too. Her skirt is hot pink. Pink is a connotation of her girly, feminine side. The skirt is quite puffy, which suggests her bouncy, light star image. It is also relatively short, so this suggests her youth and playfulness. The effect of the costume is that it makes her seem more playful. Her ring is a star, which could show that she may like to be thought of as a star. The hair band around her wrist suggests that although she is a famous popstar, she still carries hair bands as many normal teenagers do. This lets us know that she is still quite down to earth, despite being, a famous singer. Her makeup is quite light, and not very excessive. Her eye shadow is pink, and matches her skirt. This reminds us of her girly personality. Her hair is wavy and that shows her natural side. Ariana’s costume reminds us of her girly, playful star image. The effect of the costume is emphasised through the way she has a playful look on her face, and the image looks like she was caught while moving around.

They are a lighter colour which shows that she is still a young, more innocent pop artist. The shorts reveal her legs which may mean that although she is modest, she still has a flirtatious side. They also show that although she is girly, she may still like to play sports. It could also mean that she may like to dance, as many of her fans will be dancing along to her music. The shoes add quite a casual vibe that matches the outside setting. Overall, her costume reminds the audience of her girly and playful star image, and also how her music is fun and lively. The effect of the costume is emphasised because she crosses her legs and has her hands resting on the elephant in a very delicate way.

Molly’s top shows her stomach which could mean she is more flirtatious. Frankie’s red jumper could hint that she is the more outgoing one in the group. The jumper could suggest that she is a comforting person. Una’s cardigan is yellow, and yellow signifies happiness. This mean that she is the most bright and cheerful one in the group. Rochelle’s vest is blue. Blue can signify wisdom, which might mean that she is the most mature one in the group. They are all wearing denim shorts which reminds us of the fact that they are united as a band. Also, denim is quite a casual material, which could imply that they are still down to earth girls even though they are so successful. The length of the shorts show their playful attitude. It also emphasises their youth and beauty. All of The Saturdays are wearing the same white shoes. White is a connotation that signifies innocence and purity, which tells us that the Saturdays are in fact a fun and innocent girl band This reflects the fun, light hearted style of their music. This also makes the audience positive in their knowledge of them being a strong, unified group. The costume is emphasised by the way they are posing as it makes them all look more confident and outgoing. The costume highlights their individual personalities, while still making them look like a band.
