This is a powerpoint to show the results from survey. I asked 21 people to fill out a questionnaire consisting of a series of 10 questions about films and film trailers. I then collected the data, put it into various different graphs and charts, and then analysed the information. This gave me more knowledge into my target audience's opinions about film trailers, and what genre film I should consider making.
For our A2 media project we have took research from our questionnaires to ask the public what they think about the film industry, our film proposal and more.
The reason I have made a cinema survey is to find out more about my target audience in order to produce a film and trailer that is most suited to them.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Majority of the people that I asked to fill in my questionnaire were aged either
between 17 and 25 or over 30. This means that I will most likely aim my
film/film trailer at people aged 17-25 because I can relate to them, and have the
most information about them and the kinds of films they enjoy watching. Aswell
as this, from other research I have found that this age group (17-25) are the
most likely to watch films at all, which is another reason why they will be my
target audience.
3. Q2- What is your gender?

Column1
Most of the answers to my survey came from females. Because of this, I will
probably aim my trailer towards females because I have more data on the kind
of films they enjoy and are likely to watch.
4. Q3-What is your favourite genre of
film?
Comedy
Romance
Science-fiction
Drama
Action
Horror
Thriller
Animation
I asked people what their favourite film genre was from the list above (with an option
of ‘other’). This pie chart shows that most watched genre among the people who
answered my survey was romance. This is probably because it was mostly females
who filled it out. Joint second to romance was comedy and horror, followed closely by
thriller. These four genres were the favourite with the people I asked, who are likely to
be my target audience. Because of this result, I am going to narrow my genre options
down to romance, comedy, horror and thriller.

I asked what rating films people watched the most, and this bar chart shows that there was a
range of answers. Even though the age range of the people who answered my survey went
from 17-over 30, the most commonly watched age rated film was 15’s. It also shows that they
also watched 12’s and 18’s, but no one watched 12A’s, PG’s or U’s. After looking at the bbfc
website, I found out what you can or might expect to see in a 15 film: strong violence, frequent
strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, nudity, discriminatory language/behaviour and
drug taking. This fits in with the fact that they like watching thrillers an horrors.

From this question, I wanted to find out how most people found out about new film
releases. This chart shows that 18 out of 21 people (86%) found out about new
releases from the trailers. According to these results, social networks also play a big
part in promoting new films, with 34% of the people asked saying that they check
social media for new film releases. Less popular than these, but still selected by 2-3
people, were magazines and posters.
7. Q6-Do you watch the trailer before
watching new films?
Sales

Sometimes
When asked if they watched film trailers before watching the actual full film,
everyone who took part in the survey said either yes or sometimes. This means
that my target audience are more likely than not to watch the trailer for a film.
No one said they don’t watch the trailers, which means that the trailer is just as
important as the film itself, if not more because a lot of people wouldn’t see the
film if they haven’t seen the trailer.

The results from this reinforce just how important film trailers are for
most people. Everyone said that the trailers influenced them either a lot
or a little bit when deciding to watch a film. This shows that, for most
people, if they don’t like the trailer then they won’t see the film- or if they
enjoy the trailer they will. The trailer has to be a good representation of
the film to bring in an audience.

This graph shows that the majority of the people I asked watched film
trailers on youtube. As well this, some of them also watched them at the
cinema, on DVD’s, on TV and on social networking sites. This again shows
the popularity and importance of film trailers.
10. Q9-Why do you watch film trailers?

film
To learn about the film

When asked why they watched film trailers, 91% of the participants said it was to
help them decide if they should watch the film. This therefore shows the
importance of film trailers. Without them, films might not bring such a big
audience. From this result, you can see that a lot of the people who watch a film
are actually their because they saw, and enjoyed, the trailer. It is, probably, the
most important form of advertising and promotion for films.
11. Q10-What is your favourite film of all
time?
• This was an open question and the participants could write anything they
wanted. These are some of the answers given:
• Forrest Gump
• The Hunger Games
• The First Time
• The Silence of the Lambs
• Black Swan
• Jaws
• Orphan
• Shutter Island
• The Rocky Horror Picture Show
• There was a large range of films and genres given as answers for this
question, but the most popular genre was horror/psychological thriller.
Because of this, I will most likely chose one of these genres for my film
trailer. I know, from this data, that people in my target audience enjoy
these types of film/film trailers, so it would be a suitable choice.
