Who Killed the Electric Car
Luis Salas
Who killed the electric car ? Environmental issues
Who Killed the Electric Car is a documentary which unfolds a complex set of events around the
development and demise of the modern electric car. The story stems from California from the early
1990s to 2006. Everything begins to unfold with a brief history of the first electric cars created in the
early twentieth century. These electric vehicles were killed off nearly 100 years ago as gas/petroleum
powered internal combustion engine cars became cheaper. The worsening problems of gas/petrol cars
are illustrated: smog, high child asthma rates, CO2 emissions ... Show more content on

EVs are less polluting even if the electricity comes from coal fired power plants. Furthermore, the
emissions of coal fired power plants can be controlled and regulated in ways not possible for vehicles,
as the number power plants is miniscule compared to the number of gas powered vehicles. The car
companies also argued that they would not be able to technically and financially meet the
requirements of the ZEV Mandate. Car and oil companies joined the Federal Government to sue the
State of California and overturn the ZEV Mandate.
Federal Government and oil companies put forward hydrogen fuel cells as a better alternative to gas
and battery electric cars. In contrast, interviews with two hydrogen experts gave details why fuel cell
vehicles are not likely to be available for another 15 20 years if ever, whereas battery electric
technology is available now, has been rapidly improving since the mid 1990s and is cost effective.
In 1999, having won some initial concessions in the Mandate, US automakers started shutting down
their EV programs. GM bought the rights to manufacture the Hummer, as they saw it would make
them money. In 2002 the maximum Federal tax credit for an EV was $4000. In 2003 the same tax
credit for a 6000+ lbs vehicle was $100,000. Of course, many members of the US Federal
Government Bush Administration were

Augusto Pinochet And Fidel Castro
Selbin identifies the most important part of a social revolution is the transformation of the society that
is broken up into two parts consolidation and institutionalization of a country (Selbin 13). Augusto
Pinochet and Fidel Castro both tried to succeed in these aspects, but both had success in areas but also
failures in others. Their rise to power, reign and their political ideology separated them on a
fundamental level, but they did have some similarities. The biggest difference between the two
dictatorships was their visions for their country. Pinochet was a neoliberalist were as Castro was a
communist which caused them have slightly different views on how to run their country. Pinochet,
being anti democracy, wanted to instate a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though their political ideology differed both dictators saw their previous structures had failed them.
Another difference between the two was the support or lack of support from the United States.
Pinochet s need to identify himself as an anti communist was quite different than that of Fidel Castro
and the deciding factor on how the United States interfered with who at the beginning did not
associate with that communist ideology until he was near power and no longer saw any ally in the
United States, but the communist Soviet Union. The United States used a very military hand in trying
to stop the Cuban Revolution. In one instance, in 1961, the United States trained Cuban exiles to try to
overthrow the Castro regime, this is known as the Bay of Pigs. The Bay of Pigs did turn out to be a
failed attempt to over throw Castro. The United States did not stop there. They used any means
possible to try and hurt the countries ability
With Pinochet s rejection of communist thinking he was able to obtain the backing of the United
States which was a key difference in his ability to come to power in his country. This in comparison
with Castro and the hard hand that the United States used to try to make crush Castro s reign in Cuba.
The United States was not happy that Chile had elected a well known socialist into presidency and

Scottsboro Boys Rape Case
Robert Dawson
Ms. Pineda
ENG 1D1 02
January 22, 2017
Eight black boys have been arrested on charges of rape. Their names are Clarence Norris, Charlie
Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and
Andy Wright. The first trial has ended with the predictable verdict of guilty for the Scottsboro boys,
excluding Haywood. The second trial will commence tomorrow. Apparently, the boys were hoboing a
freight train when a group of white men attempted to drive the boys out. Hoboing is taking a free ride
on a freight train without paying. The boys drove all whites out of the freight train except for two
white girls and a white boy named Orville Gilley. They were stopped at Paint Rock, Alabama and

this case is now the talk of the town of Paint Rock, Alabama. However, there might still be hope for
these nine Scottsboro Boys. The people seem to be rooting for the boys. There have been multiple
protests, and restaurants have been seating black people. Price seems adamant on killing off these
Negroes for what they allegedly did, but is very inconsistent with her testimony. The fact that there is
no hard evidence is the only reason she can get away with this. She falls back on poor memory when

allegedly a prostitute. Semen has been found in her vagina, but it belonged to none of the Scottsboro
boys, therefore she had an affair while or before the train ride. Some speculate that the white men on
the train could have done the deed. She allegedly left her husband because he was always drunk, but

A Lecture On Chatterton, Oscar Wilde s Career
At the time he delivered his lecture on Chatterton, Oscar Wilde s career was transforming. He was
transitioning from the performances he had honed during four solid years of addressing countless
audiences and was developing, with greater energy than ever before, his profile as an accomplished
author, critic, and editor. His discovery of Chatterton stands at the center of these changes.
Paying close attention to Chatterton enabled Wilde to understand that the astonishing inventiveness of
the Rowley forgeries evinced the imaginative impulse that inspired the finest forms of imaginative
literature. Exploiting the links between imagination, authenticity, and truth, Chatterton s artistic
originality arose in fabrications that conjured a literary past that historically never existed. Such fakes,
Wilde knew from his reading about Chatterton, might strike some interpreters as the result of
ungovernable, if not immoral, impulses.
In the critical essays and shorter fiction that Wilde wrote from the mid 1880s onward, he radically
inverted such interpretations. Throughout these essays, shorter fiction, and dramas, generous artistic
license, lying, and even criminal intent become as we explain in later chapters the foundation for great
art.
Understanding Chatterton s artistry not only informed Wilde s creative work; it also shaped his
knowledge of the Romantic poets, whose works he had long admired. If Wilde s interest in Keats and
Shelley stemmed from his university days, through

Case Study Of HFT
. HFT is short of promotion about brand value to attract customers to purchase its products. This is an
age when anyone, who pursues high quality life, will consume natural and healthy products as much
as possible, which just fits the target customers and core competitiveness of HFT. However, since
customers don t have the habit of consuming cooling tea, HFT doesn t catch the opportunity to make
its value known to targets. First, public don t recognize its history and core value, HK style natural and

It seems unrealistic for customer to accept unfamiliar but expensive beverages in short order.
Consequently, it s high time to innovate a few new types of drinks which can be consistent with most
Chinese people. Also HFT needs to develop diverse localized products for different parts of China.
For example, aimed at southern China, it can innovate more tropical fruit made products to cater to the
customers. To conclude, expanding product range from both increasing and lengthening product lines
is a good way to satisfy different kinds of customers.
For pricing, it s appropriate to follow pricing strategy set in HK. Facing with price competition with
WLJ, JDB and Master Kong, HFT should keep price premium strategy and differentiate itself from
these low end brands visually through higher customers perceived value.
With regard to promotion, HFT is recommended to launch promotion campaigns in virtue of boutique
convenience stores to popularize its brand value. There is urgent need for HFT to continuously
disseminate its core value healthy, tasty and additive free through herbal tea workshop and integrated

Kidnapping Of Lindbergh Kidnapping
Lindbergh Kidnapping Did you know that the kidnapping of a toddler was once considered the Crime
of the Century? Charles Lindbergh was an aviator well known for his transatlantic flight in 1927. He
and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, lost the life of their son Charles Lindbergh Jr. Due to the
Lindbergh s baby being taken, the next four weeks witnessed the most massive and publicized
manhunt in American History (Campbell 254). The abduction and death of the young Lindbergh baby
singlehandedly helped make kidnapping a federal crime. On Tuesday March 1st, 1932, an intruder
entered the second floor nursery of a newly constructed estate just outside the Sourland Mountain
hamlet of Hopewell and spirited away a 20 month old boy, the son and namesake of the era s most
famous and most revered man, Charles A. Lindbergh (Levy). The pieces of evidence left at the scene
of this crime were a handwritten note demanding $50,000, muddy footprints, and a homemade
wooden ladder. Because the Lindbergh s desperately wanted to see their child again, on April 2nd,
1932, John Condon had delivered the ransom over the fence of St. Raymond s Cemetery after
Lindbergh agreed to pay the money. The hope that Charles Lindbergh Jr. would find his way back to
the diminished on May 12, 1932, two months after the kidnapping. A baby s remains, later to be
recognized as the Lindbergh s child, was found by a trucker s helper in the woods a few miles from
the Lindbergh s residence. The corpse was decaying

Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation.
Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had
a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and
demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in,
much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part
certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire
supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases,
despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate
properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it
to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I
simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly
impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial
computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but
I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in
my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several

Essay William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
Introduction
The three versions of the Merchant of Venice which I have watched are:
1. Channel 4 television version for their Schools Broadcasting Programmes
2. Trevor Nunn s version
3. National Theatre Company version directed by Jonathan Miller and starring Laurence Olivier as
Shylock
Act IV scene 1 is an intense scene in the play where we see many of the play s main themes such as
justice and mercy, money and status, revenge, loyalty, love and prejudice and tolerance.
Shakespeare presents a harsh character in Shylock the Jew, but the fact that he also gives him the
chance to speak more than any other European playwright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In this
piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various
versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock worthy
of Shakespeare s realism.
Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the 11th
century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this profession as
they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they soon became the
target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would have been familiar,
of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this myth to which
Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene. Shakespeare is original in
showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians surrounding him and it is through
this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his audience.
Analysis of Act IV scene 1
In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an inhuman
wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes Shylock s spirit
as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

What Is A Fairy Trip Essay
One sunny day, I found myself in a strange city on a mountain covered with something white and
cold. Everything started when I was reading a story about fairy creatures in a forest. While I was
reading, I wished to have a chance to go to the forest and met them. Unfortunately, when I wished
that, one of those fairy creatures achieved my wish. There was only one problem with that, and the
problem was that it is hard to go back home again. Thus, my journey trying to go back had started.
What I needed was a magician, who could give me the wishes box, and so, I would be able to go home
again. Luckily, I had my smartwatch, which could help me think of what to do. Pico, my smartwatch,
told me that the magicians from the Fairyland are brilliant enough to find a wishes box for me. Thus, I
set off to the Fairyland to find the most masterful magician in the world, Mr. Wise Man.
Being there, I had a chance to see how fairies could live above all those years. I realized that those
creatures are clever although they are smaller than us. They worked hard to do their work and
organized everything. They traveled in magical crafts and lived in houses that could shrink to the size
of small capsules. So, they can hide from the human world. Their streets were astonishing as they

Evil was an old and strong man, whose job was to hunt fairies. The rumors developed that Mr. Evil
became a man, who could grow smaller and became a child. So, he can hunt fairies without raising
any suspicion. Anyway, who Mr. Evil was, I did not love that he was fairies hunter. I am NOT hunter!

Darwin s Finches Essay
The Galapagos Islands consists of thirteen major islands and over a hundred smaller islands located
along the Ecuadorian coast. The islands are home to a variety of unique species such as sea lions,
sharks, rays, and 26 different species of native birds. Thirteen of these birds are Darwin s finches.
These finches are known to be the world s fastest evolving vertebrates due to their bodies quickly
adapting to the rapidly changing environment (Robertson, N.D. , para.1). Their DNA chemical
makeup causes these adaptations to occur. The finch s most noticeable feature is their evolutionary
adaptations, due to the briskly changing environments. Researchers at Harvard Medical School have

One of its most important characteristics is its beak. The finch adapted to have a thin, long beak to
probe through moss, bark and leaves in search of food (Wildscreen Arkive, N.D.). These finches have
the thinnest beak out of the 13 finches; which aids them to find small insects. The Green Warbler finch
are mostly found in humid highland forest where their primary food source is found. These
adaptations made them more fit to survive on available food. Over the years the finch s beak has
evolved as the bird developed different taste for insects. Another famous adaptation is how they
camouflage in their environment. The Green Warbler is restricted to the forest and is greener in body
colouration, while the Gray Warbler is found in shrubby, dry thickets and is greyer and duller looking
(Certhidea olivacea, 2010). Their coloration helps them camouflage in their own environments, and to
hide from predators. Recent studies have found that there are in fact two separate species of the
Warbler Finch, the Green Warbler Finch and the Grey Warbler Finch, but are considered as a single
species (Wildscreen Arkive, N.D.). The Green Warbler finch mainly occupies larger, inner islands,
while the Grey Warbler finch inhabits the smaller, outer islands (Green Warbler Finch,

John Stuart Mill s Elimination Of Victimless Crimes
There are thousands of laws on the books that are rarely enforced by law enforcement personnel.
Numerous laws are violated each day, in private, and do not raise the suspicion of the police or any
other person. Does that mean there were no victims of a crime? Unfortunately no. There is a large
contingent of people that want to keep the state out of an individual s private lives and suggest there
are many victimless crimes that should never be enforced and stricken from the law books.
Regrettably every crime that is committed has a victim, whether directly or indirectly that affects
society as a whole.
In order to appreciate the concept that there are no victimless crimes there needs to be an
understanding to the counter argument. According to John Locke, he states that individuals should
almost always be left alone to live their lives without interference from the state or government.
Additionally, John Stuart Mill developed the harm principle which ... Show more content on

Although there is some validity to this point, the majority of individuals that believe victimless crimes
should be abolished are unaware of the potential victims that are created from their actions. For
example, an individual smoking marijuana in his home with no one around could lose their job
because of the positive drug test or their impaired behavior, have no additional income, and turn to
theft and burglary to support their habit and pay the bills. Even more serious would be that same
individual leaving his home after smoking marijuana is involved in a major accident that either
seriously injure or kill himself or someone else. Both of these scenarios proves there was no direct
victim that was caused harm by this alleged victimless crime, but this also shows there is a long list of
secondary victims associated with smoking

Green Day And The American Idiot
Green Day and the American Idiot The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally
powerful and crucial one. In some cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and
beneficial to large communities of people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized
as one that is extremely discordant to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the
middle of that musical spectrum, depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much
more than just music and are essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the
trends, behaviors, and even struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask
What all did the musical group Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative

Green Day originally formed in Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled

Durkheim And Marx Research Paper
Durkheim and Marx ideas of law are completely different. For one, I understand as a citizen of this
country that law is comprise with all aspects of our social life. The legal system is intertwined with the
ideas, aims, purposes, and actions of society. It s all about social control and social change, by setting
out rules for society whether is positive or negative. The law has been in our nation developments for
centuries, for the fear social chaos. That is the general thinking of law for any country but Durkheim
and Marx go more in depth of who control laws and what is really comprise of.
Marx theorize that law is an economic social power. Law and economic power have a reciprocal

Our founding fathers were elites that try to wipe out the Native American, and created slavery for
African Americans. Once America was not owned by England, they created laws that were beneficial

other documents. When they were writing the document, they were not thinking about Native
Americans, African American and the poor, instead they were worry about their land and resources
that they took. I believe that capitalism drives the law. Most of the problem and debate that we have in
this is the racially poor families. The voices are not being heard and that why we have the continuous
problems in America. You also look at criminal cases were the rich white man could get a better and

Less than one year into his second presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt was tasked with consoling a
country in a national state of hysteria. Events in World War II, including the Japanese attack on Pearl

response to the Americans citizens anxiety, Franklin D. Roosevelt passed Executive Order 9066 in

History commonly repeats itself and America s political trends seem to be mirroring those of President
Roosevelt s time period. Donald Trump recently attempted to enact a travel ban on many middle
eastern countries, he did this with the intentions of decreasing American fear of terror threats and
controlling radical islamic terrorist by targeting majority islamic countries and essentially banning
them from America. This travel ban is eerily similar to Executive Order 9066. Both President
Roosevelt and President Trump utilize modern technology, favor isolationist values, avoid taking
moral responsibility for their actions, and fail to honor traditional American values. They also share
the fact that their actions and foreign policies encouraged racial hostility and perpetuating stereotypes.
The only apparent difference between these presidents is that President Trump has an example before
him, giving him an insight on how his actions may play out in the real world, while Roosevelt could
only guess how his would play out. No matter how thoroughly President Roosevelt thought about his
decision to sign Executive Order 9066, he could not have predicted the outcome. An American
president doing something of this nature was unheard of and never done before, like many of his
actions. Although he

The operating review of the company lists down the operating losses that the company faced over year
and compared it with the past years operating performance. The results suggest that the sales revenue
for the company grew over the year; however, due to higher increase in the cost of sales the company
had to face a higher gross loss than the past year (Refer to appendix A). Moreover, the company
discontinued its noncore retailing operations for the year in an attempt to reduce the losses sustained
in the past year, but the result was not positive, and the company had to face higher loss from its core
business in 2010 then both the operations combined in the past year (JJB Sports PLC, 2011).
The KPI s did not provide a better picture for the company except for showing growth in revenues and
gross margin, and all the results were unsatisfactory (Appendix B). The net loss per share also rose to
61.8 pence per share from the last year figure of 20.84 pence per share.
The key risks that the company faces are economic conditions, competition, key employees, suppliers,
availability of credit, financial risks, business continuity, revenue dependence, cost saving, leased
property portfolio, as well as, some other minor risks. The amount of risks faced by the company is
high, and the realization of those risks is a good possibility in light of the performance of the
company.

When Students Should Declare Their Major
When Students Should Declare their Major The post millennial generation has a lot more to consider
when choosing a future career than past generations. Students graduating from high school come from
a place with strict rules and an inflexible syllabus. These students are only now given the freedom to
think for themselves and to discover who they are, what their skills are and what they are passionate
about. It is more beneficial for students to establish a foundation in an array of disciplines before
declaring a major. A foundation is defined as the basis or groundwork of anything. (Dictionary.com,
LLC) Since youth (the average first or second year student is about 18 to 20 years old) have
developing minds that change continuously, thus their interests will change according to who they are
at that given time.
The cost of living has become unaffordable, causing most people to start or end their lives later than
planned. Even if a student graduates from a high end university with an impressive degree it may
guarantee absolutely nothing in today s society. Since the cost of living is so high, the next generation
after to have no choice but to postpone retirement in order to keep a roof over their heads. With later
retirement and overpopulation in the world, the post millennial generation is not guaranteed a stable
job anymore and even if they do have an amazing education, they still have the risk of becoming
homeless. There is so much more to choosing a career than

Microeconomics is defined as: The study of the operations of the components of a national economy,
such as individual firms, households, and consumers (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07). This is a
study of the relationship between the consumer and the supplier based on various fluxuations in the
market.
The Law of supply is defined as: A microeconomic law stating that, all other factors being equal, as
the price of a good or service increases, the quantity of goods or services offered by suppliers
increases and vice versa (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07).
The law of demand is described as: A microeconomic law that states that, all other factors being equal,
as the price of a good or service increases, consumer demand for the good or service will decrease and
vice versa (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07).
Supply and Demand: The market process is generally modeled using the economic concepts of supply
and demand. The plans/desires of consumers are embedded in the concept of demand and the
plans/desires of producers in the concept of supply. The plans of these two types of economic actors
are brought together in markets, which are the entities in which transactions occur. In a modern
economy, markets do not require that the buyers and sellers meet in a geographic place, so markets no

enriching the intellectual diversity of public schools (Steenbergen Hu et al 33). If they remain in
public schools, gifted students can contribute valuable ideas to class discussions, and they can share
their expertise with classmates, creating a better learning environment for all students. In addition, a
study by Jessica Hockett found that students in gifted programs could act as guinea pigs for
experimental educational policies (Hockett 26 27). Because of their advanced abilities, these students
could easily adapt to make up for loss of instructional time if these programs proved ineffective.
However, if they proved effective, they could improve curricula for general and gifted education alike.
Hockett recognized differences in the characteristics of these programs, but argued that they share
certain core concepts, such as authenticity, applicability, and flexibility, which make them fairly
interchangeable (Hockett

Napoleon Bonaparte The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte: The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most successful and controversial military leaders of all time.
Leading France from the years 1799 to 1815, he would establish the French empire, a superpower that
was very similar to that of the Romans. In only sixteen years, Bonaparte came close to conquering all
of Europe, but paid a steep price for his triumph. During his reign, Napoleon Bonaparte An exhibit for
the Metropolitan Museum of Art should portray Napoleon Bonaparte as a ruthless conqueror, not an
enlightened despot, as he enforced legalist like policies, brought on the Napoleonic wars, and was
driven solely by his desire for power. These three factors revealed some of Bonaparte s most

These wars, while trying to establish the French Empire, would significantly weaken France. During
his reign, Bonaparte s main goal was to conquer all of Europe. In order to do so, he recognized that he
needed to defeat France s main threat, Great Britain. In order to weaken them, Bonaparte created the
Continental system. The Continental system was a set of blockades that was designed to cut the
British off from trade with the rest of Europe... (but,) by 1812, it was clear that the Continental system
was not working. (Source E) Underestimating the power of Great Britain s superior navy, Bonaparte
did not realize that the British would able to make their own blockades around France. Napoleon
Bonaparte would blame Russia for his failure, and invade the vast country. This would be the biggest
failure of his career. In an attempt to defeat his new enemy, Bonaparte would march 600,000 thousand
troops into Russia. Even as the weather conditions worsened, Bonaparte decided to always push
further into Russia, trying to conquer Moscow before winter, (Source E) which he knew would cost
him more lives. Eventually losing about 500,000 of these men, he return to France with the remains of
an army. This means that Bonaparte did not consider what the cost of these wars could be. This is
significant, as this is a decision that no enlightened monarch would make. Instead of actually thinking

Check And Balances
Division of Checks and Balances The congress decided to pursue the idea of limiting the power of
government through check and balances. This system is written in our Constitution. The ideal
principles of making laws, enforcing and interpreting laws should be independent and efficient in
limiting each other s power. The two houses of congress provide limitations on each other. This
system was created because our founding fathers figured they did not want any tyranny. This was one
of their many goals and with this came federalism that balanced state and national government.

Which is why dictators usually reserve the right of overriding their parliaments, government and

The Battle Of The War Forever
The date is July 6, 1944. A young Solider in his early 20 s armed with a pair of wire cutters, a rifle,
and explosives makes his way through Omaha Beach, through countless obstacles (Kennedy, 2012).
This young Solider has a very important job. Behind him are thousands of infantrymen, desperately
fighting their way up a hill; it is up to him to clear the way. However, In front of him are rows of
mines, hedgehogs, wire obstacles, and barricades. He must complete these tasks all while receiving
heavy fire. You see he is no ordinary Soldier, he is a Combat Engineer, and what he does here today
will change the tides of the war forever (Kennedy, 2012). This engineer is well trained and comes
from a long line of warriors who have paved the way for him, laying down the groundwork for what
he must accomplish here today. The Combat Engineers can trace their lineage back to the 16th of June
1775. The first Chief Engineer was Colonel Richard Gridley, who was assigned by General George
Washington (usace.army.mil, n.d.). In 1779 congress would establish the first official Corp of
Engineers. The Corps of Engineers first task was to build fortifications near Boston at Bunker Hill to
reinforce the camp. At the time the Corps of Engineers was mostly composed of French subjects who
had been hired by General Washington from the service of Louis XVI (usace.army.mil, n.d.). Combat

The Things They Carried A Soldiers Sweetheart Essay
Difference Between Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong amp; A Soldier s Sweetheart
Once a successful novel hits the market, producers are inclined to adapt the story into a movie. Since
imagination, symbolism, and character psyches are explored in a novel, the movies tend to lack the
luster of the original text. Using their imagination, readers are able to conjure up characters and scenes
that are unique. This is the case with Tim O Brien s, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong. This is a story
where love and war collide after a soldier brings his sweetheart to his Vietnamese post. On the whole,
this chapter in The Things They Carried is far superior to the film, The Soldier s Sweetheart, because

She wanted to learn more about how to shoot a gun. She wanted to be like one of the guys. The novel
installs all these ideas, but it also allows the reader to use their creativity. It also gives more emphasis
on little traits of the character that make the character more unique. Therefore, due to the film s
inability to give audiences more information about the characters, their role and their emotions, the
novel is much more informative.
The novel is capable of giving readers more insight into the story with the use of symbols and hidden
meanings. It is able to do this because it depicts important underlying messages and incidents. For
instance, in the novel one may realize that Mary Anne starts to wear a necklace with tongues on it.
This shows the readers that Mary Anne is no longer than clean innocent girl. She is now a brutal
solder always ready to kill. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were
threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught
in a final shrill syllable (O Brien 111). Portrayed in both the novel and movie is Mary Anne s change
in personal hygiene. No cosmetics, no fingernail filing. She stopped wearing jewelry, cut her hair short

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Psychotic Depression
Psychotic depression, or psychosis, is a mental state of false believes, known as delusions, or false
sights or sounds, known as hallucinations. This type is usually not associated with depression, but
about 20% of people diagnosed with depression have severe episodes where the person can see or hear
things that are not really there. (Lliades, 2015) The symptoms of psychotic depression can possibly be
agitation, anxiety, constipation, hypochondria, insomnia, physical immobility, intellectual impairment,
and delusions or hallucinations. These are the most common symptoms for people suffering.
(Goldberg, 2014, August 21) The cause of this is when a person has a subtype of major depression that
occurs when a severe depressive illness includes another form of psychosis. The psychosis can be
hallucinations, delusions, or some other break from reality. (Goldberg, 2014, August 21) The diagnosis
can be diagnosed by a doctor like all other types of depression. Also, other illnesses will be ruled out,
including the other depression types. Treatment for psychotic depression is usually recommended by
the doctor to be given in the hospital setting. This way the patient can be closely monitored by the
health professions. A variety of medications are used to stabilize the person s mood. The medications
typically include antidepressants along with antipsychotic medicine. These affect neurotransmitters

In The Stranger by Albert Camus. Meursault does not feel any great sadness over his mother s death,
yet everyone in the novel seems to try to justify his actions. Why doesn t Meursault feel any type of
sadness or remorse for this mother s death? He seems to not have any kind of feelings or nothing for
his mother s when she was alive if he did, he would not have been more remorseful for her death.
Meursault acts as though he was not close to his mother s and like he didn t want to attend her funeral.
His friends also seem to back him up by defending him in saying reasons why he shows no feelings or

without the assistance of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids (Tynes, 2006). Yet,
professional athletes choose to cheat by taking illegal substances, which results in the death of some
players and a wide variety of health problems. The Federal Government realized that the use of

Shakespeare And Kingship Essay
Shakespeare And Kingship
In writing his history plays, Shakespeare was actually commenting on what he thought about the
notion of kingship. Through his plays, he questions the divine right of kings, which the kings and the
aristocracy used heavily in their favour to win the people s love. In Macbeth, King Richard II and
King Henry IV part 1, Shakespeare shows us his opinion of kingship in general.
Although the plays are written about individual kings, I think that Shakespeare used the plays as an
opportunity to voice his opinion on kings and kingship in general. This was assisted by the fact that he
was not prohibited by the true events, because it is well known that all of Shakespeare s plays were

This means that he is liked by the common people, but his behaviour, particularly the robbery which
he is involved in, in Act 1, scene 1, is not what is expected from son of God s representative.
According to the theory of the divine right of kings, Hal should have been almost as divine and perfect
as the king himself, but Shakespeare shows us that this was not the case and again questions the notion
of the divine right of kings through Hal s actions.

Of my young Harry
Through his plays, Shakespeare also shows that he is disgruntled by the way in which the kings treat
the common people, by writing the plays so that the kings always appear selfish and as if they
disregard the people. In Macbeth, Shakespeare shows the comparison between Duncan, a king who
treated people well and was respected for it, against Macbeth, a fallen hero , who after hearing the
prophesies of the witches succumbed to his driving ambition. Duncan listened to the people and was
widely respected, whereas Macbeth ignored the people, and associated only with his noble friends.
Macbeth thought that he was assured the kingship and so he thought that there was no need to listen or
respect the common people in the least. It was because of the witches prophecies that Macbeth became
king, and it was the prophesies which brought his downfall Macbeth felt assured

Zara Global Chain Essay
Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer driven
global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy, product
design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results. Zara was the
largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on account being a better
established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara played the lead role in increasing
the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international operations and it continued to be the
principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected slight drop in the share of the group s total
sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic capability, core competences and assets routines
and values criteria, predominantly on resource based view. The resource based view can be described
as the competitive advantage of an organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities
(Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005). In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as
internally heterogeneous and possess exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010).
Furthermore, the resource based view emphasizes the internal capabilities of the organization in
formulation strategy to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in its markets and industries
(Henry, 2011). Strategic Capability Firstly, we assess and define Zara s strategic capability.

Analysis Of Poetry By Sylvia Plath
Poetry to some is the frustration of a riddle that cannot be solved. To others, it is the joy one feels
while solving the same riddle. A writer has the power to convey certain themes and ideas within a
poem in a span of one line or a hundred lines. They can create the tone for the poem with the help of a
single word, or a comma placed in the correct spot. With the use of figures of speech such as
metaphor, a writer can give the reader images and compare different ideas that have similar qualities
that help the reader deduce what the poem is about. Poetry has many ways in which a writer can make
a series of words and lines form together to create a story with a meaning that the reader has to dig
deep into the folds of the poem to find. Sylvia Plath creates a riddle to be solved by the reader in her
poem Metaphors with the use of elaborate metaphors, select word choice, and strict poem structure to
convey what the poem is about and what the speaker of the poem is feeling. Throughout the poem,
Plath playfully uses different metaphors to hint to the reader the answer of the riddle. The speaker
employs metaphors such as elephant, melon, and ponderous house that could be used to describe a
pregnant woman once she is in the later months of her pregnancy. There is some comedy in the use of
these specific words, especially line three a melon strolling on two tendrils. Plath gives the reader a
vision of a watermelon walking around on its tendrils. This light hearted tone in

Analysis Of Tidal Wetlands
In the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service s 130 year assessment of Status and Trends of Wetlands in the
Long Island Sound Area, the results indicated that there was a 48% loss of Tidal Wetlands from the

decline increased by 19% decrease in New York from 1970 to present day. (Basso, 6)
This decline in wetlands should be of concern to ____ as wetlands provide a variety of ecosystem

However, too much nitrogen is leading to the wetland s demise. While the main concern for the loss of
wetlands up until the 1970s was draining and filling, and while the laws created then focused on
reducing wetland destruction through urbanization, wetlands are still being deteriorated. Today, the
main concern is wetland loss created by increased amounts of open water on the marsh surface. The
literature suggests that on average, healthy New England marshes have 9% permanent open water on
their surface. However, an open water assessment indicates an average of 47% permanent open water
on the marshes studied (Kirwan 2013).
In Long Island, the marshes are wetter and vegetated areas are shifting from high marsh to low marsh
or to mud flat, which are far less productive and give fewer services than the salt marshes and other
high marshes that are supposed to be there. (Kirwan 2013

move forward with peace talks is if Israel would agree to freeze the building of settlements in the West
Bank1. Israeli settlements in the West Bank have become the largest obstacle in negotiating a two state
solution and it appears the continued expansion of Israeli settlements may render a two state solution
impossible. Inside the Israeli government following the 1967 war there was a debate about how to deal
with the newly occupied territories of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, and Golan Heights.
The debate revolved around two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Israel s border needs in mind, Allon proposed a multifaceted solution for Israel s occupation of
the West Bank. He suggested Israel would incorporate the Jordan Valley, the Judean desert along the
west coast of the Dead Sea, the area surrounding the Jerusalem metropolitan area, and a small tract of
land south west of the Palestinian city of Hebron6. This configuration of newly incorporated land was
designed to provide Israel with the minimal defensible borders that are indispensable without
impairing, to any meaningful extent, the basic interests of the other side, including those of the
Palestinian community 7. It is important to note that Allon envisioned that the non incorporated
Palestinian parts of the West Bank would remain free of Israeli settlers and would eventually be
handed back to the Kingdom of Jordan in order to form a future Jordanian Palestinian state. The
second important part of Allon s plan is the use of a selective settlement policy within the incorporated
areas of the West Bank as part of Israel s defense strategy8. The selective settlement policy allowed
for Israelis to settle in the West Bank, but only in areas lacking large Palestinian cities and villages.
Unfortunately, the Allon Plan failed to account for the religious fundamentalism that would motivate
much of the settlement building in the West Bank.
Founded in 1974, the Gush Emunim movement strongly advocated the return of Jews to the

Othello as the Greater Evil in William Shakespeare’s Othello
Othello as the Greater Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello
What makes one person to be considered evil, while another is considered righteous? The character
Iago, in William Shakespeare s Othello, could be considered evil because of his plot against Cassio
and Othello. Othello, could be considered righteous, because he believes his wife has been unfaithful.
The line between these two labels, evil or righteous, is thin. Ultimately, actions speak louder than
words. Iago is evil in his actions towards Othello, but between the two, Othello is the most evil for
reacting to lies in the most violent of ways.
The evil in Iago becomes visible from the very beginning of the play. He explains at the beginning
how he was passed over for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.3.601). Later on, Othello seems to expect that something will go wrong when he proclaims to the
exiting Desdemona that he deeply loves her and that when I love thee not, Chaos is come again (Oth.
3.3.619). This may be a very innocent proclamation of Othello s love, but in reality it is an ironic lead
into what Iago has in store for the two of them.
Iago s story of Desdemona and Cassio has the power to turn a man in love into a man full of hatred.
Othello s attitude, during the first discussion with Iago, is one of clear denial. He claims that he would
simply whistle her off, and let her down the wind , or divorce her in other words (Vanita 3). As time
goes on, the accusations that Iago has made, against Cassio and Desdemona, begins to churn in
Othello s mind. He tries hard to forget the claims but when Iago offers him proof, he begins to break
down and cries out I ll tear her to pieces (Oth. 3.3.631). One would normally ignore this remark,
assuming that he was simply speaking in anger, if it were not for his call for revenge shortly after
(Oth. 3.3.631). The true evil in Othello begins to show when he commands Iago to kill Cassio by
saying Within these three days let me hear thee say / That Cassio s not alive (Oth. 3.3.632). What
makes this directive so evil is that Othello has not yet seen any proof. He has only heard the
accusations from one person (Iago), and yet he

Vince Carter Hero Essay
My hero is a very special person, who not only holds an unbelievable legacy in the National
Basketball Association but is also a very inspirational human being. Although he prefers the name

Emotion means: when you do something good then you express your feelings in a hyped up way. You
let it out; you re hyped. Aggressiveness means that you have that drive in you to go 100% every time.
Well, Vince Carter has every aspect of being a hero. Vince Carter demonstrates emotion is a very
exhilarated way. On September 25, 2000, Vince Carter made the U.S. Olympic basketball team.
Furthermore, while playing in the 2nd quarter, Vince Carter went into the paint on the fast break and
he dunked on a guy by the name of Frederic Weis of the French national team, standing at 7 2. As
soon as eh came down from the rim, he let out all of his emotion. He not only let it out, but he let it
out in a passionate way. From that point on, everyone knew that they just found the league s newest
star. Additionally, Vince Carter shows aggressiveness everytime he steps on the court. Carter lines up
at the shooting guard position of the floor. He is tightly guarding his opponent and he takes his defense
up a notch. He pushes and he reaches here and there to try to poke the ball out and go on a fastbreak.
Even when he not in a real game situation, he still brings his A game in his practice sessions. He is
only focused on getting better. In the 2015 16 season, Vince was awarded the Twyman Stokes
Teammate of the year

The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative Essay
The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative
In both The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative, the authors inspect the issue of one s
cultural identity by way of the telling of their own story, and how it has affected them. By telling their
stories as persons who have emerged themselves into a new culture, but at the same retained vestiges
of the old, Olaudah Equiano and Maxine Kingston are exemplifying a duality in cultural identity, that
is often times lost.
Before continuing, though, it is important to clarify the definition of cultural identity, at least for this
paper. One s cultural identity is the way one sees oneself in terms of the cultures and societies that
they have come from. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This personal connection to the native culture is an important part to any cultural identity, because it
provides a means of introspection, an ability to determine one s perception of oneself. The ability to
perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain parts of
one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity.
However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because
he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was
forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his
cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which
combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At
the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between
himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.)
The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting
Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. It is not difficult to determine that in Equiano it
appears his native culture had little direct impact on him. In the narrative, he makes little to no
mention of his home, his native country, or anything related to them. This

Stereotypes In The Simpson
The Simpsons is an animated movie in America, which Matt Groening created to be used in Fox. The
series depicts a satirical of the life experienced by the working class and the family of Simpson
epitomizes the life. The family comprises of five people who are Lisa, Marge, Homer, Bart, as well as
Maggie. The show occurs in a fictional setting of Springfield. In the series, various aspects are
parodied, which consist of the American culture, television, and the condition of humans. In essence,
this paper provides a review of The Simpsons series by looking into different aspects and techniques
depicted that include the author s use of stereotypes, binarisms and metatelevision (Arnold, 2001). The
review Metatelevision is evident in the series The Simpsons and the element brings forth a sense of
self reference, intertextuality, as well as audience awareness. Since its inception, the television tends
to become meta practical. As such, it shows self consciousness and shattering humor to enable the
readers and viewers gain an in depth view of whatever transpires in the series. In the series, the show
acknowledges own creation, and even the artistic creation hence bridging the gap between reality and
fiction. Moreover, The Simpsons show knows how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

various elements used such as metatelevision, use of humor and stereotyping keeps the show lively. As
such, the jokes make people to view whatever the occurrences are going on even though some might
find constraints in establishing a proper view of everything the author tries to talk about in the series

Several basis of deity is that demonstration would show of God like attributes, teachings being

That to Him is saying that you are the son of the father of lies.
What are the common objections to the traditional understanding of Christology, and how do you
respond to them?
Some objections were it being a philosophical idea than it being historical revelation. Another was that
there is no divine production of the world or there being three different people but as a union. There s
another one saying that Jesus didn t fully become man and didn t have the true things of man. How I
would respond to this is by starting off with saying yes it is true that He didn t fully become man, but
He still have all things that man have reason is because He would not be able to come to save our
souls and prolong our lives as well as being kept from condemnation to the point where you won t
have no chance to tell God who you are. We would have been sent straight to hell without no anymore
chances at all. But for Apollinaris saying He didn t have any man like qualities or attributes that will
show that He has came to us as a man.
In what ways is Christ in his humanity an example to you?
He is an example to me in a way that Love will and can conquer all. Also, being led by the Father
leads you in the right direction, give you knowledge and wisdom to do or say. That trusting in Him
you can receive things that are really more substantial than material

The Importance Of Japanese Culture
In my multicultural paper, I will be discussing about the Japanese culture how it has influenced my
own values and traditions today, allowing me to experience a world which I was not aware of before.
Specifically, their type of food dishes is something I partake on a weekly basis with friends and
family, ranging from their usual rice balls to delicious sushi. Another trait about this culture is being
able to read their unique literature, after spending two semesters in a Japanese course at Fullerton
College, I have finally developed the ability to read Japanese in my favorite Manga books, without
needing English subtitles. Likewise, another key point that I find interesting about this culture is how
they can advance in the field of technology by creating new devices that could help humanity. But,
that is not always the case with this culture, seeing they have been known for creating the weirdest
inventions in the world, yet still bringing joy and excitement to some. Either way, people from other
cultures should take the opportunity to learn about this culture, considering what it could return and
teach, making us a diverse community. Now, I understand that not everyone has the stomach to handle
Japanese cuisine, seeing how some of their delicious meals tend to be prepared as raw, and not cooked
to the proper temperature which most people are accustom to. However, it is worth eating if you are
willing to participate in, because Japanese chefs are among the most eager and

Essay On Autoimmune Hepatitis
Other possible signs and symptoms of Autoimmune Hepatitis include joint pain, nausea, dark yellow
urine, or rashes on the skin (9). The doctor suspects some kind of liver disease but is unsure. He asks
her some questions and gathers the following information. She has only had one boyfriend in her
lifetime and does not have a history of being promiscuous nor did she have any history of using drugs
that are administered intravenously, which makes it unlikely that she has Hepatitis C (10). The doctor
thinks that Autoimmune Hepatitis may be to blame based on Tia s signs and symptoms. Still, other
hepatic diseases have to be considered. Though this case does not appear to be due to a virus, viral
infection can trigger other forms of hepatitis and has been reported as a potential trigger for
Autoimmune Hepatitis (11).
The doctor decides that a blood sample is necessary to examine antibody levels in Tia s blood in order
to figure out which disease she has (2). Smooth muscle antibodies and antinuclear antibodies are

  • 2. Who Killed the Electric Car Luis Salas Who killed the electric car ? Environmental issues Who Killed the Electric Car is a documentary which unfolds a complex set of events around the development and demise of the modern electric car. The story stems from California from the early 1990s to 2006. Everything begins to unfold with a brief history of the first electric cars created in the early twentieth century. These electric vehicles were killed off nearly 100 years ago as gas/petroleum powered internal combustion engine cars became cheaper. The worsening problems of gas/petrol cars are illustrated: smog, high child asthma rates, CO2 emissions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... EVs are less polluting even if the electricity comes from coal fired power plants. Furthermore, the emissions of coal fired power plants can be controlled and regulated in ways not possible for vehicles, as the number power plants is miniscule compared to the number of gas powered vehicles. The car companies also argued that they would not be able to technically and financially meet the requirements of the ZEV Mandate. Car and oil companies joined the Federal Government to sue the State of California and overturn the ZEV Mandate. Federal Government and oil companies put forward hydrogen fuel cells as a better alternative to gas and battery electric cars. In contrast, interviews with two hydrogen experts gave details why fuel cell vehicles are not likely to be available for another 15 20 years if ever, whereas battery electric technology is available now, has been rapidly improving since the mid 1990s and is cost effective. In 1999, having won some initial concessions in the Mandate, US automakers started shutting down their EV programs. GM bought the rights to manufacture the Hummer, as they saw it would make them money. In 2002 the maximum Federal tax credit for an EV was $4000. In 2003 the same tax credit for a 6000+ lbs vehicle was $100,000. Of course, many members of the US Federal Government Bush Administration were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Augusto Pinochet And Fidel Castro Selbin identifies the most important part of a social revolution is the transformation of the society that is broken up into two parts consolidation and institutionalization of a country (Selbin 13). Augusto Pinochet and Fidel Castro both tried to succeed in these aspects, but both had success in areas but also failures in others. Their rise to power, reign and their political ideology separated them on a fundamental level, but they did have some similarities. The United States used a very military hand in trying to stop the Cuban Revolution. In one instance, in 1961, the United States trained Cuban exiles to try to overthrow the Castro regime, this is known as the Bay of Pigs. The Bay of Pigs did turn out to be a failed attempt to over throw Castro. The United States did not stop there. They used any means possible to try and hurt the countries ability With Pinochet s rejection of communist thinking he was able to obtain the backing of the United States which was a key difference in his ability to come to power in his country. Their names are Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright. The first trial has ended with the predictable verdict of guilty for the Scottsboro boys, excluding Haywood. The second trial will commence tomorrow. Apparently, the boys were hoboing a freight train when a group of white men attempted to drive the boys out. Hoboing is taking a free ride on a freight train without paying. • 5. A Lecture On Chatterton, Oscar Wilde s Career At the time he delivered his lecture on Chatterton, Oscar Wilde s career was transforming. He was transitioning from the performances he had honed during four solid years of addressing countless audiences and was developing, with greater energy than ever before, his profile as an accomplished author, critic, and editor. His discovery of Chatterton stands at the center of these changes. Paying close attention to Chatterton enabled Wilde to understand that the astonishing inventiveness of the Rowley forgeries evinced the imaginative impulse that inspired the finest forms of imaginative literature. Exploiting the links between imagination, authenticity, and truth, Chatterton s artistic originality arose in fabrications that conjured a literary past that historically never existed. Such fakes, Wilde knew from his reading about Chatterton, might strike some interpreters as the result of ungovernable, if not immoral, impulses. In the critical essays and shorter fiction that Wilde wrote from the mid 1880s onward, he radically inverted such interpretations. Throughout these essays, shorter fiction, and dramas, generous artistic license, lying, and even criminal intent become as we explain in later chapters the foundation for great art. Understanding Chatterton s artistry not only informed Wilde s creative work; it also shaped his knowledge of the Romantic poets, whose works he had long admired. • 8. Kidnapping Of Lindbergh Kidnapping Lindbergh Kidnapping Did you know that the kidnapping of a toddler was once considered the Crime of the Century? Charles Lindbergh was an aviator well known for his transatlantic flight in 1927. He and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, lost the life of their son Charles Lindbergh Jr. Due to the Lindbergh s baby being taken, the next four weeks witnessed the most massive and publicized manhunt in American History (Campbell 254). The abduction and death of the young Lindbergh baby singlehandedly helped make kidnapping a federal crime. On Tuesday March 1st, 1932, an intruder entered the second floor nursery of a newly constructed estate just outside the Sourland Mountain hamlet of Hopewell and spirited away a 20 month old boy, the son and namesake of the era s most famous and most revered man, Charles A. Lindbergh (Levy). The pieces of evidence left at the scene of this crime were a handwritten note demanding $50,000, muddy footprints, and a homemade wooden ladder. Because the Lindbergh s desperately wanted to see their child again, on April 2nd, 1932, John Condon had delivered the ransom over the fence of St. Raymond s Cemetery after Lindbergh agreed to pay the money. The hope that Charles Lindbergh Jr. would find his way back to the diminished on May 12, 1932, two months after the kidnapping. • 9. Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation. Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in, much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases, despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In this piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock worthy of Shakespeare s realism. Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the 11th century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this profession as they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they soon became the target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would have been familiar, of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this myth to which Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene. Shakespeare is original in showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians surrounding him and it is through this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his audience. Analysis of Act IV scene 1 In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an inhuman wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes Shylock s spirit as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

The islands are home to a variety of unique species such as sea lions, sharks, rays, and 26 different species of native birds. Thirteen of these birds are Darwin s finches. These finches are known to be the world s fastest evolving vertebrates due to their bodies quickly adapting to the rapidly changing environment (Robertson, N.D. , para.1). Their DNA chemical makeup causes these adaptations to occur. The finch s most noticeable feature is their evolutionary adaptations, due to the briskly changing environments. One of its most important characteristics is its beak. The finch adapted to have a thin, long beak to probe through moss, bark and leaves in search of food (Wildscreen Arkive, N.D.). The Green Warbler finch are mostly found in humid highland forest where their primary food source is found. These adaptations made them more fit to survive on available food. Over the years the finch s beak has evolved as the bird developed different taste for insects. Another famous adaptation is how they camouflage in their environment. The Green Warbler is restricted to the forest and is greener in body colouration, while the Gray Warbler is found in shrubby, dry thickets and is greyer and duller looking (Certhidea olivacea, 2010). Their coloration helps them camouflage in their own environments, and to hide from predators. Recent studies have found that there are in fact two separate species of the Warbler Finch, the Green Warbler Finch and the Grey Warbler Finch, but are considered as a single species (Wildscreen Arkive, N.D.). • 14. John Stuart Mill s Elimination Of Victimless Crimes There are thousands of laws on the books that are rarely enforced by law enforcement personnel. Numerous laws are violated each day, in private, and do not raise the suspicion of the police or any other person. Does that mean there were no victims of a crime? Unfortunately no. There is a large contingent of people that want to keep the state out of an individual s private lives and suggest there are many victimless crimes that should never be enforced and stricken from the law books. Regrettably every crime that is committed has a victim, whether directly or indirectly that affects society as a whole. In order to appreciate the concept that there are no victimless crimes there needs to be an understanding to the counter argument. According to John Locke, he states that individuals should almost always be left alone to live their lives without interference from the state or government. Additionally, John Stuart Mill developed the harm principle which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even more serious would be that same individual leaving his home after smoking marijuana is involved in a major accident that either seriously injure or kill himself or someone else. • 15. Green Day And The American Idiot Green Day and the American Idiot The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally powerful and crucial one. In some cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum, depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask What all did the musical group Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative rock band formed in 1986. The band consists of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing vocals), and Tré Cool (drums and percussion). The band known as Green Day originally formed in Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled Sweet Children. The two were only fourteen years old at the time they founded their band. The early group s musical style was influenced greatly by bands like The Ramones and The Sex Pistols. In 1988, Lookout! • 38. Analysis Of Poetry By Sylvia Plath Poetry to some is the frustration of a riddle that cannot be solved. To others, it is the joy one feels while solving the same riddle. A writer has the power to convey certain themes and ideas within a poem in a span of one line or a hundred lines. They can create the tone for the poem with the help of a single word, or a comma placed in the correct spot. With the use of figures of speech such as metaphor, a writer can give the reader images and compare different ideas that have similar qualities that help the reader deduce what the poem is about. Poetry has many ways in which a writer can make a series of words and lines form together to create a story with a meaning that the reader has to dig deep into the folds of the poem to find. Sylvia Plath creates a riddle to be solved by the reader in her poem Metaphors with the use of elaborate metaphors, select word choice, and strict poem structure to convey what the poem is about and what the speaker of the poem is feeling. Throughout the poem, Plath playfully uses different metaphors to hint to the reader the answer of the riddle. The speaker employs metaphors such as elephant, melon, and ponderous house that could be used to describe a pregnant woman once she is in the later months of her pregnancy. There is some comedy in the use of these specific words, especially line three a melon strolling on two tendrils. Plath gives the reader a vision of a watermelon walking around on its tendrils. • 39. Sm Mental Health Hey, are you taking a picture, make sure you tag me in that. Oh did you see my last post last night? We are the social media (SM) using generation. SM dictates our friendships; it never leaves our side, in the form of smartphones, text messaging or video calling. Before SM became the first real avenue, in which people express themselves, people had to resort to face to face communication. Face to face communication is considered to be the traditional way of human interaction, but with the creation of SM in the World Wide Web, SM instantaneously throws your ideas out there for the entire world. According to SM journalist, Emma Stein, SM dependence could be considered a mental issue, since it is becoming part of our everyday life. To what extent is SM dependence a mental health issue? While the main concern for the loss of wetlands up until the 1970s was draining and filling, and while the laws created then focused on reducing wetland destruction through urbanization, wetlands are still being deteriorated. Today, the main concern is wetland loss created by increased amounts of open water on the marsh surface. The literature suggests that on average, healthy New England marshes have 9% permanent open water on their surface. However, an open water assessment indicates an average of 47% permanent open water on the marshes studied (Kirwan 2013). In Long Island, the marshes are wetter and vegetated areas are shifting from high marsh to low marsh or to mud flat, which are far less productive and give fewer services than the salt marshes and other high marshes that are supposed to be there. Essay on Israeli Settlements On the 17th of April 2012, Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicating the only way the Palestinian Authority would agree to move forward with peace talks is if Israel would agree to freeze the building of settlements in the West Bank1. Israeli settlements in the West Bank have become the largest obstacle in negotiating a two state solution and it appears the continued expansion of Israeli settlements may render a two state solution impossible. Inside the Israeli government following the 1967 war there was a debate about how to deal with the newly occupied territories of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, and Golan Heights. The debate revolved around two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Israel s border needs in mind, Allon proposed a multifaceted solution for Israel s occupation of the West Bank. He suggested Israel would incorporate the Jordan Valley, the Judean desert along the west coast of the Dead Sea, the area surrounding the Jerusalem metropolitan area, and a small tract of land south west of the Palestinian city of Hebron6. This configuration of newly incorporated land was designed to provide Israel with the minimal defensible borders that are indispensable without impairing, to any meaningful extent, the basic interests of the other side, including those of the Palestinian community 7. It is important to note that Allon envisioned that the non incorporated Palestinian parts of the West Bank would remain free of Israeli settlers and would eventually be handed back to the Kingdom of Jordan in order to form a future Jordanian Palestinian state. The second important part of Allon s plan is the use of a selective settlement policy within the incorporated areas of the West Bank as part of Israel s defense strategy8. The selective settlement policy allowed for Israelis to settle in the West Bank, but only in areas lacking large Palestinian cities and villages. Unfortunately, the Allon Plan failed to account for the religious fundamentalism that would motivate much of the settlement building in the West Bank. Othello as the Greater Evil in William Shakespeare’s Othello Othello as the Greater Evil in William Shakespeare s Othello What makes one person to be considered evil, while another is considered righteous? The character Iago, in William Shakespeare s Othello, could be considered evil because of his plot against Cassio and Othello. Othello, could be considered righteous, because he believes his wife has been unfaithful. The line between these two labels, evil or righteous, is thin. Ultimately, actions speak louder than words. Iago is evil in his actions towards Othello, but between the two, Othello is the most evil for reacting to lies in the most violent of ways. Later on, Othello seems to expect that something will go wrong when he proclaims to the exiting Desdemona that he deeply loves her and that when I love thee not, Chaos is come again (Oth. 3.3.619). This may be a very innocent proclamation of Othello s love, but in reality it is an ironic lead into what Iago has in store for the two of them. Iago s story of Desdemona and Cassio has the power to turn a man in love into a man full of hatred. Othello s attitude, during the first discussion with Iago, is one of clear denial. He claims that he would simply whistle her off, and let her down the wind , or divorce her in other words (Vanita 3). As time goes on, the accusations that Iago has made, against Cassio and Desdemona, begins to churn in Othello s mind. He tries hard to forget the claims but when Iago offers him proof, he begins to break down and cries out I ll tear her to pieces (Oth. 3.3.631). One would normally ignore this remark, assuming that he was simply speaking in anger, if it were not for his call for revenge shortly after (Oth. 3.3.631). The true evil in Othello begins to show when he commands Iago to kill Cassio by saying Within these three days let me hear thee say / That Cassio s not alive (Oth. 3.3.632). What makes this directive so evil is that Othello has not yet seen any proof. He has only heard the accusations from one person (Iago), and yet he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By telling their stories as persons who have emerged themselves into a new culture, but at the same retained vestiges of the old, Olaudah Equiano and Maxine Kingston are exemplifying a duality in cultural identity, that is often times lost. This personal connection to the native culture is an important part to any cultural identity, because it provides a means of introspection, an ability to determine one s perception of oneself. The ability to perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain parts of one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity. However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.) The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. It is not difficult to determine that in Equiano it appears his native culture had little direct impact on him.
