Alkaline phosphatase is a hydrolase enzyme that removes phosphate groups, with normal blood levels ranging from 44 to 147 IU/L; elevated levels may indicate liver, gall bladder, or bone issues. Symptoms like jaundice and abdominal pain may suggest problems with the liver or gall bladder, while elevated alkaline phosphatase can assist in diagnosing bone diseases such as rickets and osteomalacia. Acid phosphatase, primarily found in the prostate, rises in cases of prostate cancer metastasis, but is also produced by other organs like the liver and kidneys.

•It is hydrolase enzyme responsible for removal
of phosphate groups from many molecules like
nucleotide, protien and alkaloide.
•Normal level of this enzyme in blood is 44 to
147 IU/L(international per liter) .
•level of this enzyme is high from normal level
will indicate that there is problem with your
Liver, Gall bladder and Bones.

2. Liver and Gall bladder
• Symptoms such as jaundice(yellowing of skin
and eye), abdominal pain, vomiting and
nausea may led your doctor to suspect that
their is something wrong in your stomach and
gall bladder.

3. Bone diseases.
Alakaline phospatase enzyme is helpful in
diagnosis of bone problems
• Rickets: Weaking of bones due to defiency
of vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate.
• Osteomalacia: Softening of bones due to
vitamin D deficiency.
• Paget’s disease: Disorder causing major
problems with bone destruction and
regrowth.

4. Acid phosphatase enzyme
• This enzyme is capable of hydrolyzing
phosphate ester in an acid environment .
• This enzyme is found throughout body but
primarily in prostate gland(exocrine gland of
male reproductive system).
• Normal level is o.5 to 4 KA.

• When tumor appear in prostate gland, level of
Acid Phospatase increase in blood.Test is not for
the screening of cancer, level of enzyme rises
when prostrate cancer has metastasized.
• There are other organs which produce this
enzyme like liver, spleen, kidney including bones
and RBCs.
• But prostate gland produce 100 time more then
these organs.
• Damage of these tissues cause moderate
increase in level of this enzyme.
