This document provides an overview of using AirPlay to project content from iPads onto a classroom display. It discusses how AirPlay allows teachers freedom of movement while presenting and enables student collaboration by having students project content from their own devices. The document outlines the objectives of learning about AirPlay, how it works, and two key features of freedom of movement and collaboration. It provides examples of using AirPlay for student presentations and interactive lessons. Finally, it suggests some education apps that can be used with AirPlay like Nearpod for interactive lessons and Socrative for quizzes.
2. Warm-up:
Please use an iPad and Educreations or other app of your choice to jot down the
following in one screen:
■ Your Picture
■ Name
■ School
■ Subject and Level
■ Something that you would like us to know about you
(It can be a scribble, symbol, a picture, a phrase, an emoji)
4. How to useAirplay
Now it is your opportunity to introduce yourselves. Please wait
your group´s turn until instructed.
■ Open Commands
1. Choose
Airplay
2. Choose CBY-235
4. Turn Mirror ON
3. Enter Passoword:

5. Objectives of this workshop:
I. Learn about AirPlay as an option to project a tablet’s content and
transform your iPad into a smart board.
II. Explore ways to use airplay to:
■ allow teachers the freedom to be away from the board and away
from the student’s central focus of attention.
■ get more effective engagement and interactivity with students.
■ utilize more effectively student owned technologies.
6. What are AirPlay and AirServer?
■ AirServer is an Airplay receiver for PC and Mac.
■ Works with:
– iPhone 4S, 5
– iPad 2, 3
– iOS 5 or later

8. Freedom
Airplay allows you to walk around the classroom while
presenting from your iPad.
For example:
■ Use your iPad for your presentations through an interactive
Power Point, or other app.
■ Show content from your iPad using many of the available
apps.
■ Use your iPad to pre-record a lesson and have a substitute
present it.
9. Collaboration
Airplay allows students to project their content, to share their
ideas and collaborate with the rest of the class.
For example:
Students can project from their seats allowing them to become
active participants of the class.
Or they can produce projects in their own iPads and present at
the board.
They can bring questions from homework and project from their
own electronic device.
11. Monitor, real-time, what students are
doingMirroring with AirServer gives you the ability to monitor, real-time,
what students are doing on their devices; AirServer allows multiple
iPads and iPhones to mirror all at once to one computer. Every time a
device mirrors it shrinks the others on the computer’s screen to make
room.
12. Activity:
In your groups:
Brainstorm ideas to use AirPlay in your
classrooms.
Each group will present. Use the app of
your choice (Educreations, Inspiration,
Pages)
14. MoreThings to do
■ Create Presentations in Nearpod to allow interaction with students.
■ Share quizzes by using Socrative
■ Project objects under a microscope by using Board cam
■ Share notes/understanding by using Notability
