Present Perfect: A Review
7
To talk about actions that have started in the past and continue
today, the present perfect uses the present tense of the verb
“have” (have, has,) and the past participle of a verb.
The past participle:
• Is formed by adding “ed” to regular verbs.
• uses the past participle form of irregular verbs
Present Perfect: A Review
8
EXAMPLES of the PRESENT PERFECT:
They have seen that movie.
She has finished dinner.
I haven’t decided which sweater to buy.
Adverbs: Just, Yet, Already
9
EXAMPLES:
They have already seen that movie.
She has just finished dinner.
I haven’t decided which sweater to buy yet.
The Adverbs: Just
10
We use “just”:
• when something has very recently happened.
• usually before the main verb.
Examples: (present tense “have” + past participle):
I have just been to Italy.
She/He has just finished breakfast.
They/We have just walked the dog.
The Adverbs: Just
11
Practice using “just” in the following sentences by using the present
perfect form of the verb.
Example:
1. I ________________________ (empty) the dishwasher for you .
The Adverbs: Just

Practice using “just” in the following sentences by using the present
perfect form of the verb.
