Countable & Uncountable Nouns
Countable nouns:
can be counted!
Uncountable nouns are things that can’t be counted.
Liquids, sand, air, concepts and ideas are uncountable.
Examples: creativity, courage, intelligence, anger, love.
Uncountable nouns are always singular – they take a singular verb.

Quantifiers
What are quantifiers…?
Quantifiers are words (adjectives) that come before nouns that tell us
“how much” (uncountable) or “how many” (countable) of a noun there
is or there are.

We use the quantifier “many” with countable nouns.
We use the quantifier “much” with uncountable nouns.
There are too many pages of homework. (pages are countable)

Partitives
Partitives are words or phrases (such as “boxes of" or "a slice of") that
indicates a measure of or quantity of something.
Most partitives refer to a quantity or amount.
Some examples are:

A few and few (for countable nouns) as well as a little and
little (for uncountable nouns) may seem very similar, but
they actually mean very different things.

Notes on: a few/few and a little/little
A few and a little indicate that the speaker feels positively about
the quantity he/she is describing:
(There is ENOUGH).
Examples:
• I have a little money for lunch. ⇒ I have enough money for
lunch.
• I have a few dollars for lunch. ⇒ I have enough money for lunch.

Notes on: a few/few and a little/little
Few and little indicates the speaker feels negatively about the
quantity: (there is NOT ENOUGH).
Example:
