Passive Voice
What is the purpose of the passive voice?
1. To avoid saying who did an action.
• Maybe we don’t know who did it, or it is obvious, or we don’t want
to say.
• Most sentences in the passive voice don’t have an actor!
For example, read this dialogue.
“The post office has been robbed!”
“Who did it?”
“I don’t know!”
