This document compares and contrasts chalkboards and overhead projectors as instructional tools. Chalkboards are inexpensive but writings cannot be saved. Overhead projectors allow presentations to be reused and show motions, but they are more expensive, bulky, and require power. Both have advantages - chalkboards for writing and erasing easily, overhead projectors for visualizing presentations - but overhead projectors are considered a better medium overall as they facilitate face-to-face contact and focusing audiences through projected materials.

4. Advantages of Chalkboard
• The chalkboard is inexpensive,
especially when the usable life of the
board is considered.
• You can easily add or erase if
you committed error or you forgot
to write about the topic.
• In showing solutions of the different
mathematical problems , chalkboard is very
useful to show it systematically.
•Various colored chalk or pens can be
used to develop the topic, show parts or
build associations

5. Advantages of Chalkboard
• The teacher can illustrate/ draw figures and
highlight these drawings by using colored
chalks.
• Using chalkboard, the students
can improve their handwriting/
penmanship

6. Disadvantages of Chalkboard
• You cannot save the writings/ visual materials
posted on the board.
• With a short height may not be able to use the
chalkboard in a maximum way.
•The writing on chalkboards is difficult to read in the
dark.
• Chalkboard is not applicable in dark areas and is not
appropriate for students having visual impairments.
• It cannot show motion to discuss a process.

7. Disadvantages of Chalkboard
•It can cause misconception or misunderstanding if it is not
used properly.
Chalkboard work can be messy (dirty).
• Chalkboard is that the information written on the board is
temporary
• We can’t illustrate maps, chemical reactions, mathematical
formulas and complex diagrams on board.
• Chalk produces dust,it causes allergy and asthma
problems.
• Chalk sticks are broken easily , it causes many problem.

8. Overhead Projector
An overhead projector is a very basic but reliable
tool used to display images onto a screen or wall.
Overhead projectors were used during World
War II as a tool to train groups of servicemen.
In the 1950s and '60s, it crossed over into the
classroom as an educational tool, and then into the
business world as a training tool.
It is better medium than chalkboard

9. Advantages of Overhead projector

• It shows motions such as pictures , videos ,
audios,etc
• We can fouse the audience when presenting the
presentation
• It is better than chalkboard
• In OHP , file can easy store and transport i.e. share
• OHP uses LCD,DVD show the presentation

11. Disadvantages of Overhead projector
• Overhead projector is bulky and heavy to
transport.
• OHP is very expensive than chalkboard.
•It requires power supply.
• It need suitable flat surface on which to project its
image.
• It is advice not to move immediately as soon as
lamp is switched off.
• It can cause rainbow effect on LCD .
• It can cause screen door effects.

12.  Comparison between chalkboard
and overhead projector
• Chalkboard is ineffective than OHP.
• OHP is easy to understand than chalkboard.
• OHP is very costly but chalkboard is easily get as well as it is
profitabally.
Using OHP , adiences can visualize the presentation
but in chalkboard medium user can mistake when
writing on board.
• OHP is better than Chalkboard.
