presenting ideas in an innovative and sophisticated manner, transcending the ordinary and
embracing a higher level of intellectual engagement.

Shakespeare s Use of Ovid s Metamorphoses and Virgil s Aeneid as Basis for The
Tempest
William Shakespeare, as did most writers of his time, took the basis for the stories
he wrote from other texts. He would use source poems or mythology in order to
write his own works. Romeo and Juliet, for example, can be compared to the tragedy
of Pyramus and Thisby. Plays such as Richard III and Julius Caesar are artistic
accounts of historic events. The Tempest, however, is commonly perceived as an
original story. Many critics feel that this was the only story of his that was entirely
created by Shakespeare. This is not the case. In fact, there are several sources from
which he very much drew inspiration for this tale. Shakespeare used ... Show more

She calls upon Aeolus, King of the Winds, to cause a mighty storm that will
destroy the Trojan fleet. As the storm arises, several ships are destroyed while
others are swept away, but eventually Aeneas and some other ships end up in the
harbor of an unknown land. Aeneas decides to inspect this strange place, and
during his exploration he encounters a huntress. This is actually Venus in disguise,
and she informs him that this is the land of Dido, Queen of Carthage. Aeneas
meets Dido, who welcomes the Trojans and invites them to her feast. During the
feast, Venus has her son Cupid, God of Love, make Dido fall in love with Aeneas. He
succeeds, and Dido asks Aeneas to tell her of the fall of Troy, which he does.
As time goes by Aeneas and Dido fall in love. Dido neglects her territory, and
Aeneas ignores his quest. However, Jupiter, King of Gods, insists that Aeneas get
back to his destiny and find a new home for his people. Aeneas obeys, and Dido kills
herself with his sword.
Aeneas next goes to Cumae in Campania to gain access to the underworld from the
Sibyl, or priestess of Apollo, and succeeds. He does so in order to ask his dead father
about the future of their race.
Eventually Aeneas and his people get to the promised land, where they meet Latinus,
the king of a neighboring area. Latinus offers Aeneas the hand of his daughter,
Lavinia, but she is sought after by Turnus, King of
Refugee Process Supports Reintegration Chances For...
Refugee resettlement process supports reintegration chances for refugees and asylum
seeker and it gives an approach to a sustainable peace building through their
empowerment. There some benefits but despite those things resettlement practices
has some challenges as well for refugees and host both countries.
Resettlement policy and practices can be analyzed by different context and
perspective. In the United States, resettlement policy has become a humanitarian
issue which related to human rights and social justice. USCIS has been playing an
important role in identifying the refugees documents and supporting them to make
legal person in USA.
Capps, R., Newland, K. (2015) have discussed that refugee resettlement policy in a
different host country like USA from different perspectives for example how to
address the primarily pre and post migration issue is different. In this seminal work
the author has discussed the increasing diversity of large USA, refugee populations
may be making it more challenging for both resettlement agencies and local
communities to meet refugee s needs. Furthermore, it also discussed that the origins
of refugees are increasingly diverse. This source can be very helpful to conceptualize
our basic framework.

Social Media And Its Effect On Women
Positivity Is Beautiful In today s society it is being brought to the public s attention
more often than before that women deserve to be treated fairly. It is discussed on
social media and has been viewed on television advertisements. The feminine
product seller, always, advertised a commercial. A director named Lauren Greenfield
asked girls if they have had some kind of setback when trying to accomplish
something because they were a girl. All of them said yes and explained their
thoughts. Another advertisement was by Levi jeans and singer/songwriter, Alicia
Keys. The setting took place in Brooklyn, New York and she was shown smiling
and walking on the sidewalk, interacting with her fans. Also, other women were
dancing, and one girl was jumping for joy in the air. Her song 28 Thousand Days
was also being played throughout the commercial. Although these two
advertisements are trying to sell a product, they are actually influencing women in
a positive way. To begin with, both of the advertisements give women confidence.
In the always commercial, all of the girls didn t look flashy, they were dressed
casually, and had little or no makeup on. In a lot of advertisements women are made
to look stimulating, for instance, having a skinny body, a lot of makeup on, and
dressed in designer clothes, so when female viewers look at advertisements like that,
their confidence starts to get low because they don t see themselves like the models.

Tracking in the U.S. Public Schools Essay
Tracking is the grouping of students by perceived academic abilities for instruction.
As a pedagogical strategy, tracking was initially introduced into U.S. public schools
in the early 1900 s as a way to educate and socialize the broadly changing population
of urban, northern cities that swelled from European immigration and poor southern
black transplants seeking better opportunities. Societal beliefs of the time regarding
distinct division of classes and the requisite assimilation of immigrants into
American culture resulted in new educational laws that popularized a system that
segregated classrooms into slow, bright and deficient (Ansalone, 2010, p. 4) levels of
learners. Tracking was viewed and used as a practical strategy in... Show more content

The second assumption tracking makes is that the practice is equitable, accurate
and appropriate. The third assumption claims student affect will be negatively
impacted if they are placed in inclusive groups with higher performing classmates.
The last assumption claims teachers prefer tracking as an instructional strategy
because they prepare for and teach only one ability level at a time. Many studies have
been carried out to prove or disprove the effectiveness of tracking and analyze any
related social impacts. Following is a review of research for both sides of the debate.
In 1990, Slavin reported that tracking had only a small impact on academic
achievement. Later, in 2000 and 2006 researchers revealed that average learners had
no change in knowledge gain but higher track students showed academic
improvement (Ansalone, 2010). While the research to support impressive gains in
academic achievement fall short, studies abound with statistics on the negative
educational progress the high and low tracking of students has generated.
Throughout the 1980 s and 1990 s Hallinan found that standardized test scores were
significantly lower for students tracked into low ability classes than if they had been
placed in inclusive or high ability groups (Rubin, 2006). Furthermore, a startling 1987
report by Gamoran showed the educational gap between high and low track students
was greater than the gap between high school dropouts and high school
Postmodernism And Language
Postmodernism started in the 20th century and it involved art, architecture, and
literature.
Postmodern philosophers believe that the world cannot be understood objectively nor
there is an absolute truth. Moreover, they think that everyone perceives the world in
his own way, there is no common grand between people in understanding the world or
perceiving it. While Modern philosophers think the opposite: We are able to
comprehend reality because categories exist within our minds that actively generate
perception. These categories, Kant assumed, are universally the same in all people.

the right thing to do. It is wrong to immediately ... Show more content on

Can language objectively describe truth? Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889 1951) believes
that language cannot objectively describe truth because each language will add
different meanings to the same text. All language is socially conditioned. We
understand the world solely in terms of our language games that is, our linguistic,
social constructs. (postmodernpreaching.net).
According to science, things have changed since newton time. Back then people
believed in rationality and absolutes. But now in the 20th century with the
development of science, came to light the relativity theory. The relativity theory
threw away the absolutes. Russell expressed the view that once people became used
to the idea of relativity, it would forever change their way of thinking. They would
abandon a belief in absolutes and begin to regard all concepts as relative
(postmodernpreaching.net).
The correspondence theory of truth caused people to believe that scientific truth
equals absolute truth. Postmodernism corrects this by denying the equivalency
between scientific truth and absolute truth. All scientific conclusions are now
understood to be tentative simply because no one has ever made the infinite number
of observations required to learn if there are any exceptions.
(postmodernpreaching.net). A class full with postmodernists may not have a
curriculum, each one of the students may be left to discover his own
Astrology Signs
The astrology signs go in this order: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo,
Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. You ve probably heard
about fire signs, earth signs, air signs, and water signs. These are the four
elements. Twelve signs divided by four elements equals 3 signs per element. If you
start with Aries as the first fire sign, then just skip to every 4th sign, you ll see that
the fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagitarrius. Taurus is the first earth sign, then Virgo
and Capricorn. Gemini is the first air sign, then Libra and Aquarius. Cancer is the
first water sign, then Scorpio and Pisces.
So what does a fire sign mean? These signs tend to burn hard and fast. They start
strong and then can flame out just as quickly as they began. Do you know a person
with a Aries, Leo or Sagittarius Sun? Then you may notice that these people are a
little more intensely emotional, whether that be in happiness or anger. They may
likely be more honest. And they may likely be more likely to take action quickly
and with no holds barred. These are generalities, of course. Other planets in a person
s birth chart can intensify or mute this fire Sun sign as well. ... Show more content on

Earth is much more slow and grounded. Much more practical and even tempered.
Less likely to have a very wide range of emotions and more likely to be stubborn
and set in their ways. This goes for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn Sun signs. Again, if
a person with a Taurus Sun happened to have other planets in their chart that had lots
of fire say Mars in Leo and Moon in Aries, then you would see a better blending of
emotion and action. If this same Sun in Taurus person also had a Moon in Virgo and
Mars in Capricorn, then you would be much more likely to see this earth energy in
action in their thoughts and
The Issue Of Act Of Service
Introduction
oWe have been looking the issue of acts of service . Acts of service (helping others)
are needed in our local community because some people need support within the
community like financial struggles and people who can t afford things for them self s
or their children they desperately need and people within the community are being
friendly, generous, kind hearted and considerate by donating money for the struggling
family or toys for the children.
oThere are people suffering in our community. For example the poor that have to
sleep outside in the rain and the cold and could also die from starvation and lack of
nutrition and protein they need to stay alive.

is the highest of all commandments in Judaism. And helping others is a duty of
Judaism. The Jewish community are among the most generous people to give to
charity to help support the poor. The Jewish community have no levels of giving to
much charity and it believed to be a good way to serve the holy Christ.
oMuslims help other because of the four pillars which are SHAHADA which means

Dong Ap Bia! The Mountain of the Crouching Beast . Beast, is exactly what the

Fashion. Available: http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/articles/c/corsets and crinolines in

complex history of the corset, a garment that has been greatly affected by social,
economic and political factors, and that has had a resounding effect on today s
society as a result.
The corset expresses contradictory messages: constriction and freedom, dominance
and submission, femininity and power. And it refers to current social values:
violence, war, sex, nostalgia and conservatism (Johnstone, L. (N/A). Corsets and

Tesco Net Profit Analysis
3.2.2 Net profit margin comparison
Net profit margin is a commonly used profitability measurement tool which assesses
firm s net profit by comparing to its sales revenue. It is quite an appropriate measure
of a firm s profitability position because it considers the net income after tax rather
the gross income (Bryman, 2008). Net profit margin of both J Sainsbury Plc and its
comparable firm TescoPlc is given in the following table:
Table 1: Net profit margin of J Sainsbury Plc. Tesco Plc. from 2013 to 2015

However back then the ratios of the two companies were comparable but their gap
turned massive as Tesco hit an extreme low in 2015 with a negative ratio of
0.092993385 where Tesco generated an operating loss twice as large as the
operating profit it made in 2014. One of the main circumstances leading to this loss
making Tesco is the ВЈ263m accounting scandal that hit the supermarket last year
(Neville, 2015). As a result many costs have hit Tesco s profits turning it into a loss
such as restructuring costs including redundancy and compensation costs related to
changes in store colleague working arrangements in the UK, Europe and Asia,
redundancy costs relating to Head Office restructures across the Group, and the
redundancy cost of store closures in the UK. ВЈ266m has been recognized in costs of
sales and ВЈ150m within administrative expenses. (Tesco, 2015)
J Sainsbury Plc is in a stable position and it is in better position in all the three years
than the net profit margin of Tesco. This is the consequence of better implementation
and introduction of higher quality products in their sales mix.

The Era Of The Baroque Era
According to Greenberg (2009), the Baroque era is estimated to be the time period
spanning from 1600 until 1750. The year of Sebastian Bach s death, 1750 which is
notably and associatively used as a timeline reference that ends this overly
extravagant period of creativity. This timespan became an era of expressive
exuberance of primal human emotions as secularization, the study of scientific
reasoning and intellectual rationale characterized the societal environment. Religion
no longer dominated and controlled the subject matter and stylization of artistic
expression, yet it did not disappear, it merely stepped into the background. The
Classical era is estimated to be the time period spanning from 1750 until 1827.
Similarly 1827, the year of Beethoven s death is used to mark the ending of another
era. Within this timespan, society transitioned from overly ornate to a more defined
sophisticated culture with the introduction of the Enlightenment 1730 1780. The
Enlightenment s ideals for the betterment of mankind gave rise to Cosmopolitanism
and an international blurring of musical lines. European mercantilism gave rise to a
growing middle class whose social importance became equal to that of the
aristocracy and the high clergy. The middle class s increased finances allowed them
the purchase of real estate and the knowledge of leisure time with the desire to be
entertained. Classical musicbecame more accessible to the middle class as a source of
entertainment and a

Population ecology and neoinstitutional theory looks at UCSB in divergent
perspectives: population ecology looks at UCSB as a living or dying species whereas
neoinstitutional theory highlights UCSB s importance as an establishment to its field

Yang and among other administrative staff at UCSB employ population ecology to
aid the growth of the school while ensuring the best experience possible for past,
current, and future students. For UCSB to survive its environment within the
educational field, it is important to refer UCSB as either a growing or dying species.
Many establishments face external and internal pressures dictating the fate of their
organizational future. UCSB among other universities and colleges altogether face
one external pressure that can lead to a dying organization which is fiscal uncertainty.
Monetary barriers against UCSB hinder the organization because they are given limits

Issues Of The Modeling Industry
Issues in the Modeling Industry Fashion is everything to society and the media, but
everyone wants to look good while feeling beautiful in their own way. Everyone
believes that fashion is an easy, fashionable, and sophisticated style. Today, the
modeling industry has become negative for older and younger women. The people in
the industry do not prefer unhealthy body images such as pictures of overweight
women. Women suffer from depression and anxiety. The modeling industry has been
very harmful towards women in America. It effects women by not achieving a
healthy, being strong, and confident body image regardless of shape and size.
Having a skinny body is very important in the modeling industry. Bigger women
always get turned down. This makes them feel unhealthy and not as beautiful as the
other women that are modeling. The hard part for models is to keep their weight
down to a certain number, otherwise, they are not allowed to model anymore. Today,
in America many women are suffering from eating disorders, and other negative
behaviors which make women do things to their body that they should not do. Men

The People s Crusade led by Walter Sans Avoir, also known as Walter the

months from April to October 1096. The First Crusade was begun by Pope Urban

western Christendom and ended as a military expedition by Roman Catholic Europe
to regain the Holy Land taken in the Muslim conquests of the Levant, resulting in the
capture of Jerusalem in 1099. The People s Crusade recruited many peasants which
slaughtered populations of Jews in Europe and then attacked Muslims in Anatolia,
where they were decisively defeated. In 1096, the official Crusader armies, led by a

Differences And Similaristics Of Greek And Roman
Architecture
Greek and Roman civilizations have created some of the most inveterate and
meaningful images in history. The art of building that arouse on the shores of the
Aegean Sea and flourished at the ancient world .Greeks were governed through
democracy while romans were republicans .the Romans borrowed and adapted the
Greek style. They sanctified the same Greek Gods but gave them different names.
They both concentrated on using their structural concepts that match their ideal
ratios. And as any two consecutive, greatly attached civilizations .there are many
points of comparisons regarding their building types, building techniques, materials
and art. As long as the presence of differences there are many similarities that actually
exist.
If we started with the similarities between them, we would find out that they both
concerned about symmetry, using stonework (marble), columns, and esplanades.
They brought up numerous statues and esteemed the human compose. Although
difference between Greek and Roman architecture are not so clear for some, they
look alike in many things. However, it does not mean lack of difference at all
between both of them.

Ship Breaker Dystopian
Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing that portrays the world in a
worst case scenario using three elements. These three elements are dystopian
society, dystopian controls and the dystopian protagonist. Paolo Bacigalupi uses
these three elements to create a very realistic dystopian novel that is not too far
away from becoming a reality. With all of this said, It is obvious that Ship Breaker
is a completely dystopian novel. Not only is it a dystopian novel, but it also gives
a view into what the real world might look like in the near future. The bureaucratic
control in Ship Breaker is very evident when Bacigalupi begins to talk about the

Perception in Director Spike Jonze s Adaptation Essay
Perception in Director Spike Jonze s Adaptation
The film begins with the voice of Nicholas Cage as Charlie Kaufman berating
himself for the image he perceives himself to be, namely, a fat ass , while at the same
time, he knows what he needs to be: Just be real, confident, that s what women like.
Throughout the film, Charlie struggles with two conflicting views of himself: the
poised, confident man he could be and the bumbling, awkward man he sees himself
to be. Through the narrative technique of inner monologue, the audience has access
to all of Charlie s thoughts and insecurities. Charlie s opinion of himself dictates how
he functions in the world. He is an extremely talented screenwriter and an

Life is not perfect and it certainly never plays out how we think it should. Charlie s
perception of the real world he wants to capture in his movie was that people don t
change or have opinions and nothing is ever resolved. The man running the film
seminar sets Charlie straight: things happen every day. Even the smallest, most
overlooked aspects of life are important. The seminar leader told Charlie that if he
couldn t find anything extraordinary about life s everyday occurrences, then he knew
nothing about life at all. Charlie s characters must change and that change must come
them. Up until that point, Charlie was essentially crippling his own existence by his
limited view of the world.
In the following scene, we see Charlie has made his own change from within. He
calls his brother for help with his script. Previously, Donald was the one who asked
Charlie for help and Charlie would have seen it as a waste of time or a sign of
weakness (because he was not strictly adhering to his artistic ideals) for him to ask
for Donald s help. Charlie begins to act uncharacteristically and even decides to
stalk Susan Orlean at the Orchid Thief s house, taking Donald s place. However both
Charlie and the audience don t truly grasp the meaning of the seminar leader s words
until Charlie and Donald have their conversation in the swamp. While
Factors That Determine the Currency Exchange Rates
Factors that Determine the Currency Exchange Rates
Exchange rate is often referred to as the nominal exchange rate. It is defined as the
rate at which one currency can be converted, or exchanged , into another currency.
For example, the pound is currently worth about 1.824 US dollars. One pound can be
converted into 1.824 dollars. This is the exchange rate between the pound and the
dollar. There are four types of currencies can be operated, which are a floating,
managed and fixed exchange rate.
Lots of developed industrial nations like US ($), UK (???) and Japan (??¥) operate
floating exchange rates. A floating exchange rate is known as freely floating and
should be self regulating. It is often determined by the market ... Show more content

With a fixed exchange system, a country may face a persistent surplus or deficit. To
deal with a persistent surplus, government can increase home demand in order to
encourage import, or raise home price to make export less competitive. To deal with
a persistent deficit, government can reduce the home demand or decrease home
price to make export more competitive. If both of measures inefficient, the only way
of influence the exchange rate is to change the exchange rate. If countries with
surpluses move their value of exchange rates higher, it will be revalue, if countries
with deficit decrease their value of exchange rate, it will be devaluation. And usually,
exports are dearer in the condition of devaluation.
If a government is confident that a floating exchange rate system can keep a balance
of payments in balance. Then it will not hold reserves of foreign currency.
The market demand and supply for currency are the most significant determinant for
influencing the exchange rate in a floated exchange rate system. If there is an
increase in demanding pounds, the equilibrium price is likely to change. For
example, as it illustrated in figure 1.4(A) (B), if an American buys a British Rover,
there will be an increase in the
Sony s Corporate Brand Identity

Sony is one of the largest consumer electronics manufacturers in the world. It has
introduced various high quality products such as the Play Station series product
line. However, Sony has not managed to have a positive net income and has faced
six net loss in the last seven years. Aiming for a turning a round, Sony declares a
goal of $4.8 million of operating profit in the fiscal year 2017 and targets a 10%
return on equity (the Economist, 2015). Sony s business strategy to is to restructure

dollar, and the Euro (Griffin Consulting Group, 2012). Although the economic
landscape is changing for Sony, the company has potential to grow through its
reorganizing activities.
Problem Statement
Sony must reposition its growth driven and stable profit generator sectors in their
markets to increase its audience, achieve sales growth, profit expansion and
maximization, and capture market shares.
Alternative Solutions
To regain some of its market share in its growth driven and stable profit generators
sectors, Sony can reposition its competition in the minds of consumers. For instance,
Sony can use comparative advertising to demonstrate that its brands are superior to its
competitors. In this situation, Sony can attempt to alter the portrayed image of its
competitor, Nintendo, and position its PlayStation game console as the better quality
product (Positioning(marketing), n.d).
Sony can also differentiate themselves in the market by employing a consumer
focused positioning strategy. A consumer focused positioning strategy revolves
around consumers. This strategy can be tailor made to the audience by using social
media, apps, and other online platforms to engage, access, and directly communicate
with consumers (Positioning(marketing), n.d.). Being consumer focused is in line
with Sony s new planning
Classical Conditioning
One of the first methods of describing a phobia was classical conditioning, most
famously known by Pavlov s dog experiment. In that study, dogs were trained to
correlate a light with the coming of food. When they say the light come on, their
salivary glands began to salivate, indicating that the dog was waiting and thinking
about the food that he knew would

appear shortly. But this study did not train the dogs to fear the light, like some others
do. For example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is
electrically shocked, eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will
exhibit symptoms of fear. (8)
These kinds of studies used to make scientist think that a phobia came from and event
that happened in one s past, but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, some people who have Aerophobia, the fear of flying, have never
been on a plane, so there would be no way for them to have a scarring experience
with one. Other theories believe that phobias originate from an evolutionary need to
avoid danger and survive.
As scientist Martin Seligman put it, people may be inherently prepared to learn
certain phobias. Those who avoided obvious danger, such as snakes, heights,
lightning, or disease, most likely survived the longest, and the others died off. Some
scientists, such as LeDoux, believe that preparedness and the ease of conditioning are
the result of certain preexisting neurological connections that exist evolutionarily.
(12) Wild rhesus monkeys fear snakes while domestic rhesus, unless conditioned, do
not. In the experiment, domestic rhesus monkeys are shown a video in which peers
respond fearfully to both snakes (fear relevant stimuli) and flowers
(neutral stimuli). When exposed to the two stimuli, the monkeys all exhibited a fear
response to snakes but not to flowers. (12) This shows that there must have been a
preexistent link in the brains of the monkeys. A phobia is clinically defined as and
irrational fear, but these kinds

Women in the Work Force Essay
Women in the Work Force
Working in a factory which is similar to living in a third world country is difficult.
Horrible, intolerable conditions haunt workers at home and in the working
environment. Women lead tough lives because they are dictated orders, by men, in
and out of the house. Many women have families to support, so making little salaries
is a strain on the family. The main issue with conditions in the work force is that
management does not have a clear understanding of what the women and the children
working are going through. Working conditionsin third world countries are similar to
some working conditions in America.

According to Louie, Like the 19th centruy sweatshop middle men, many of today s
subcontractors survive the competition by sweating their workers out of wage, hour,
benefits, and safety rights (4). It was hard for women to go home to a similar
environment; one that they had faced all day at work.
In third world countries, at work there are expectations to be followed from
women. According to Stromquist, Another mechanism of social control is the use
of sexual stereotypes regarding women s abilities and skills (5). Since women are
seen as being weak and feminine, their bosses who were men, thought they could
only handle doing jobs that would be too easy for men to do. Women get confused
about how they should act at work because women receive conflicting messages
about how to perform their jobs. This happens when there are many bosses on duty
and all of them want to do things their way. There are conflicting messages because
when one boss walks by and the women are yelled at to do a job a certain way and
when another boss walks by the women are yelled at to do the same job a different
way than before. There are different tasks that women must do on duty. For
example, Mrs. Yu Sau Kwan received injuries from activities while on the job. At
her job in Chinatown she would get pains in her back, hip, and fingers from sewing
nine hundred zippers a day. For this she could have received Workers Compensation,

Summary Of The Lord s Messenger Essay
In verse nine, I observe that the Lord s messenger asks Hagar to return to a life of
servitude despite ill treatment from Sarai. I now question why the Lord might want
Hagar to endure this mistreatment, but in verse ten the messenger says that Hagar
will be rewarded and given so many children that they cannot be counted. 1 Peter
2:18 may offer some insight as to why Godasks Hagarto return to her master, it says,
Household slaves, submit by accepting the authority of your masters with all respect.
Do this not only to good and kind masters but also to those who are harsh. I still
wonder why the Lord requests her to endure this mistreatment.
Verses nine and ten remind me of a couple reoccurring themes from the bible which
may help answer some my questions. The first theme concerns God promising many
descendants to those who trust in him. Perhaps many descendants embody the
greatest reward of this time. The second theme of this passage deals with God
uplifting and supporting the marginalized, as highlighted in Matthew 20:16, Those
who are last shall be first and those who are first shall be last. In verses 11 12 the
Lord s messenger tells Hagar that the Lord has heard of her mistreatment and will
thus grant her a son named Ishmael. In verse 12, I observe that Ishmael will be a wild
mule of a man, who will fight everyone and live at odds with his relatives. I wonder
why the author portrays Ishmael s demeanor of fighting as a positive attribute.
In verses 13 and 14, Hagar
Democracy And The European Union
Introduction:
Democracy in the European Union (EU) has been described by academics ranging
from a classical case of a gradual de democratisation through integration , to opaque,
technocratic, and distant from its citizens . The EU began as an economic union
with 6 initial members for integrating Franco German production of coal and steel
following Robert Schuman s proposal in the 1950s. It has now become a progressive
political union, experiencing many innovations and changes in numerous fields right
from the ECSC to the Lisbon treaty. Today, the EU has 28 members representing
almost 500 million people. The expansion has resulted in the uprising of new
complex problems, democratic deficit being the most pivotal. Christopher Lord
defined democratic deficit as insufficiently representative of, or accountable to, the
nations and the people of Europe . The phrase was first used by David Marquand in
1979, referring to the then European Economic Community. Democratic deficit in
relation to the European Union, refers to a perceived lack of accessibility to the
ordinary citizen, or lack of representation of the ordinary citizen, and lack of
accountability of European Union institutions. The complex and distant nature of the
European institutions have contributed to this argument. This essay discusses the
European institutions involved in the legislative process before going on to evaluate
the role played by national parliament to combat the deficit, taking into
The Pros And Cons Of Wi-Fi
Continual advancement in technology has led to the extension of wireless
accessibility due to Wireless Fidelity (Wi Fi), an important phenomenon that has
been impacting the world over the past decade (Kioskea, 2015). The name Wi Fi was
first coined by Wi Fi Alliance and it refers to wireless Ethernet 802.11 which defines
standards for wirelesslocal area networks (WLANs). But since 802.11 was
considered too slow for some applications it was surpassed by extensions 802.11a
and 802.11b, and later by 802.11g. Traditionally, this radio technology that uses
frequency to transmit data through air was initially originated during late 1980s and
was evolved with the fundamental objective of making data communication wireless.
But today Wi Fihas become a necessity for both consumer and enterprise since it does
not only represent a means of staying connected at home or at the internet and
checking emails and surfing the web, it is also consumed by the users for content

One big disadvantage of Wi Fi involves security since Wi Fi that are open attract
hackers and many times people using the wi fi service become victims of identity
theft. Wireless network can be safe for homes and offices, but it does take some
work and a few expertises, but you should never carry out private business on a
free Wi Fi network. Moreover, Wi Fi operates in the frequency of 2.4 GHz along
with cordless phones and microwaves, hence these devices may interfere with the
wireless signals and cause problems while surfing net or may even corrupt files.
Also, the range of Wi Fi is limited and the Wi Fi router must be placed in center so
that all computers can receive fair signals which aren t blocked by any wall or

Anti Smoking Programs For Smoking
Over the last few generations, the cultural image associated with smoking has
dramatically changed. In comparison with the youth of our grandparents, the novelty,
rebellion, and the social normality linked to smoking has significantly depleted. The
past decade has altered that perception further and changed the idolization of smoking
into a more stigmatized and negative view. Such attitude change has been a process
and can be attributed to the utilization of many anti smoking programs. The first large
scale national anti smoking program was implemented as a part of the Fairness
Doctrine, from 1967 to 1970 (Farrelly et al. 2005). During this time, television
networks were required to maintain a balance between anti smoking and pro smoking
advertisements. Since then, many other campaigns have taken on the challenge of
combatting anti smoking with the tobaccoindustry s promotion. The truth campaign,
specifically, imposed an early and effective model for anti smoking programs to
follow, therefore making it highly successful.
The truth campaign is one of the most recent large scale national anti smoking
programs used to change attitudes and beliefs towards smoking. In 1998, the Florida
Department of Health launched this tobacco prevention program that featured a mass
media campaign (Farrelly et al. 2005). The primary strategy was to employ
advertisements with anti tobacco messages in hopes of raising awareness and
changing social norms. The campaign countered industry

Theology 205 By Edward Lewis
Lewis essay relates to this course as Theology provides a perspective on
understanding creation, the transcendent power, and humanity around us. He
acknowledges that multiple viewpoints exist from the inside and outside
perspectives. Also, one cannot ignore or discount specific inside experiences as it
helps us think about something. Therefore, in Theology205, there will inevitably be
many ways to understand life, our purpose, and the people we are becoming. We
are also covering the Bible in depth, so some of us will look at the beam if they
have never read it, while others will look along the beam if they are familiar with
its interpretations. The students who will look along the beam are those who are
Christian or Jew, since they already use the Bible as some guidance in life. In
contrast, those who look at the beam are ones who are new to this subject, those
willing to view this course from a new lens, and those who do not practice

The young man does not apply an experiential view; rather, he is merely looking at
the beam when he examined the paintings. This is similar to Lewis essay because
Lewis ultimately believes that we should attempt to look through multiple lenses and

we think about something. Williams character tells the boy that he does not truly
know anything about him just from looking on the outside, so his judgments are
invalid. He must truly experience and look along the beam in order to fully

The Last Battle Of The Civil War
Leadership through Redemption
In Nicholas Lemann s story Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War, it shows a
theme of leadership through the main character of the story, and Adelbert Ames
effectively demonstrates the required traits of a main character and a leader. The
book focused on a lot of events that happened in the Reconstruction era. It tells about
both the political characteristics and the social characteristics that are unraveled
throughout the reformation of the South and giving the African Americans the right
to vote along with other political freedoms. Throughout the story, Adelbert Ames
successfully demonstrates the qualities of a great protagonist and a leader. Adelbert
Ames shows the theme of leadership and how his change in his ambition and
morality would make him a better leader in his life.
In the story, Adelbert Ames shows his great leadership and guidance. He was one of
the great leaders after the time of the Civil War. He was also a key contributor in the
American Civil War. He was quoted as a beau ideal of a division leader (32). His
great leadership was awarded with the Medal of Honor, which is one of the highest
medals in the army. He was known as a man who would do anything for his people
and he would go the distance to help them out. As told by the story, he was a leader
that also treated his soldiers right. This is seen in this quote: Although he never
permitted anything to stand in his way, and never asked men to go where he would

Hydrogen And Hydrogen As A Fuel
Introduction
Hydrogen is proven to be the most efficient furl because of its abundance and the
production of harmless bi products as compared fossil fuel. Despite the abundance
in its natural existence, Hydrogen can also be obtained through processes such as
the electrolysis of water and methanol steam conversion. Hydrogen as a fuel is
capable of the replacement of most of the other sources of energy. However,
Hydrogen faces numerous obstacles to its entry into the economy and the utilization
by human beings. The technology to contain and manage hydrogen as a fuel is
already present. However, the hindrances bar the launch of hydrogen as a basic fuel.
The essay discusses the various obstacles to the hydrogen economy such as the
market entry issues and issues related to policies.
Thesis statement: The government ownership of fossil fuel reservoirs and gas outlet
companies is the main obstacle to the launch and adoption of the hydrogen economy.
Background and history The use of hydrogen as a fuel requires the adoption of the
fuel cells technology for their role in the reaction activity between hydrogen and
hydrogen for the production of energy. The fuel cells convert more of their energy
potential from the fuel source as compared to the regular gasoline fuels. The
insignificance of the impact caused by the bi products of such reactions makes it the
much better option than the fossil fuels that face the threat of exhaustion. However,
the adoption of hydrogen as the primary

gazing at the corpse between stitches, it seemed to them that the wind had never
been so steady nor the sea so restless... supposed change had something to do with
the dead man (Gabriel 2). This is symbolic of the women putting the dead man
back together bringing him back to life and already thier lives are changing
because of the dead man. After they gave him a funeral, to honor Esteban s
memory, the villages will build larger homes so that he can pass through freely
without shame at his size painting thier house fronts gray colors...breaking thier
backs digging for springs among the stones and planting flowers on the cliffs...
(Korb 3)(Gabriel 5). The villagers are compassionate with the body by giving him
decent care of the funeral and trying thier best by making everything look perfect
for him. Also seeing the drowned man as god like figure. Esteban visiting the village
made them realize is how terribly empty thier lives had been (Korb 3). After how
much they realized how much thier lives had change, they name the village after
The, 12 Angry Men, And Nasa s Challenger Disaster
Speak your mind even if your voice shakes , a quote made famous by Maggie
Kuhn, is the foundation of how I conduct my life. While the fundamentals of being
an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the
opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people
become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term
that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and
NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink.
Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding
both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink
on today s voting young adults.
In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case
being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty
verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went
around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As
the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to
justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect
of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and
angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other
jurors had with one another displayed a positive aspect
Cataphatic Meditation
Meditation is a mental exercise used to reach a heightened level of spiritual and
mental awareness thru repeating one s mantra and breath. Although the practice
sounds simple in itself and doesn t sound like there would be much room for an
expansion and growth as a practice, it has still managed to grow into an umbrella
term with a rich history and a wide verity of different meditationthat people practice.
Some even date back before the Buddhist monks in early 2,500 B.C. People have
been practicing meditation for years from the Catholic monasteries, to the Desert
Father, and throughout the Buddhist monasteries across Asia. However, unlike
apophatic meditation form the branches of meditation that can be found as most
beneficial is the Kataphatic (also known as Cataphatic) meditation form which can
be found nearly across the entire board as one of the most beneficial things a person s
physical and psychological health, as well as it is of the best ways for people to...

It can be defined as, the use of words and/or images. There are many kinds of
kapathatic mediation. Some of the most common meditation forms are prayer,
centering prayer, cosmic, and mindfulness meditation, which Buddhists, Christian
Mystics and other religious sects practice with variation according to doctrine. All
these meditations focus on a single mantra. However, some go through entire stories
like The Last Supper or The Christmas Story. While the latter, Apophatic meditation,
is mainly practiced by eastern orthodox Christians and some Buddhist secs, and the
majority of it centers on or around God. Unlike kataphatic meditation, it does not use
words or image but focuses on the negation of self, general understanding, and words
/ images. Which many times causes it to be somewhat paradoxical creating a much
more defined line between kapaphaticism and

Despite this attack on Powell s character, his mounting military calling was
unimpeded. After he left Fort Carson, Powell became senior military assistant to
Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, whom he assisted during the 1983
invasion of Grenada and the 1986 airstrike on Libya (Wikipedia, 2009). Following
the Iran Contra outrage, Powell became Ronald Reagan s National Security
Advisor at the age of 49 (Washington Post, 2000). The same year, 1989, Powell was
promoted to General and briefly served as the Commander in Chief of the Forces

selected him as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His last military assignment
lasting from October 1, 1989 to September 30, 1993, was as the 12th Chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the Department of

this time, he oversaw 28 crises, including the invasion of Panama in 1989 to remove
General Manuel Noriega from power and Operation Desert Storm in the 1991 Persian

Art Is A Form Of Art
What do you love to do? Maybe you love art, maybe you love acting, or maybe you
love sports. Now, imagine, whatever it is you love to do, you are the best at that.
So, if you love sports, you are the greatest athlete of all time. Yet, even though you
are the greatest at what you do, imagine nobody appreciates you. Imagine yourself
as a sports star, and you are the strongest, fastest, quickest athlete in history but no
one knows your name. Instead, they focus on someone else who takes
performances inhancers to help himself compete and even after the performance
inhancers, he is still not as good as you. Still, everybody loves him and thinks he is
amazing, while everybody does not even know who you are. How would you feel?
Maybe you would feel unappreciated. You might feel underrated and you may feel
like you have been done wrong. Well, what if I told you, there is a form of art where
we do not show glory to the the best, instead we give it to others who some would
say are undeserving.
The form of art I am talking about is music. Well, why do I say that people give glory
to ones who are less deserving? To make my point, think about this illustration. Take
another form of art, painting. Imagine a famous artist is considered one of the best
painters of all time. If you knew someone else was actually tracing their pictures and
all they had to do was color between the lines, would you still call them the greatest
painter of all time. No! Why not? They are not doing most of the
The Intent For Outpatient Prospective Payment System
The intent for Outpatient Prospective Payment Systems is to provide a system to
predict and manage program expenditures by setting a fixed payment amount to
groups of services. The outpatient prospective payment system classifies hospital
outpatient services into Ambulatory Payment Classifications. Ambulatory Payment
Classifications are assigned by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and
are updated annually. Ambulatory Payment Classifications are services that are
similar in the aspect of the resources required to provide the service. The Outpatient

Hospitals are subject to a 2% reduction in the annual payment if they do not meet
certain requirements of the Quality Data Reporting criteria. If the hospital does meet
the criteria, there is a financial incentive they can receive. With most of the services,
the patient will pay the deductible for that year. Once the patient meets the deductible,
Medicare pays the rest of the charges, less the copay or coinsurance the patient must
meet. On certain services, such as a screening mammogram, the patient is not liable
for a deductible. The Outpatient Prospective Payment System pays for services that
are designated as outpatient hospital services, partial hospitalization services,
hepatitis B vaccines and their administration, casts, splints, and initial preventative
physical exams that are received within the first 12 months of the Medicare Part B
coverage becoming effective. Other services that are included are x rays, stitches,
hospital charges for an emergency room visit, surgeries that are done on an outpatient
basis, observation services due to an illness or injury and the administration of certain

African Americans During The Civil War
Socially, politically, economically, African Americans were kept out of society. And
they had to scratch and bite to get whatever advantages they could. African
Americans were the main labor force; back then black children are forced to work
rather than go to school. African Americans have for the most part lost whatever
political situation they had had as a result of Reconstruction. And it was done very
brutally and it was done very systematically. Another issue was in order to make sure
that African Americans did not attempt to assert themselves in any way, whether it
was voting, whether it was trying to buy land, the white South resorted to terrorism.
And that terrorism which was a legacy that never stopped from the time of the Civil...

The Public Sphere Within Theatre
The Public Sphere within theatre was a concept that was first delineated by
philosopher Jurgen Habermas in his book titled The structural transformation of the
public sphere, in which he refers to the right that all citizens hold, the right to
participate and engage into discussions on public matters of interest and public
issues. Habermas writes: the audience does not constitute a space for spectators and
listeners but a space for speakers and addresses who engage in debate. (Habermas in
Balme 2012). The Public spherehas now become a space, a stage, for performers,
speakers and protesters to have a voice rather than for the preliminary use of
entertainment for the audience, spectators and listeners.
On reading Christopher B. Balme s The theatrical public sphere, the concept of
theatre s role in the Public Sphere is explored. Balme traces the origins ... Show more

Academic and artistic interest in something is usually a sure sign that matters are
unclear, conceptual boundaries are blurred and that old certainties are anything
but that. There is also little doubt that the major challenges we face: the media
revolution, globalization and migration, climate change, the erosion of public
finances and services (to name just a few) have all in some way a bearing on the
public sphere, the realm where issues are debated and where citizens are free to
enter and engage in discourse. As the public sphere is primarily a discursive arena
located outside and between state bureaucracies on the one hand and economics and
business on the other, it occupies a crucial role in the functioning of so called free
societies. The question to be explored here is what role theatre and performance in
practice play in this realm and how performance and theatre theory can contribute to
the debates. (Balme

The Influence Of Origen In The Book Of Galatians
Origen has showed influences throughout his book because of his allegorical method
of interpretation. Just how Paul had used allegorumenu in the book of Galatians
4:24, Origen had recommended that the views of all scriptures grasp more than just
literal and historical events. He believes that there is a spiritual cause (Oikonomiai)
in becoming closer to God. Origen had faith in this because he wanted to turn
against Gnosticism when it flourished. Origen knew that with the right set of
people, he would be able to offer an alternative to the Christian system. He
introduces this alternatives as God is the only creator, God the Son was born of
the father and had created all things including man whom was born a virgin, died
and had risen from the dead. He also believed the our spirit exist in free will and that
we would be rewarded or punished after death.... Show more content on

Humans are free to make their own choices but it is not easy when they have used

Urinalysis Informative Speech Outline
Hello Mrs. Graham Ma, I heard from your grandson that you needed an explanation
about your urinalysis. First off a urinalysis is a an examination of your urine to see if
you have diabetes, an infection, any issues with your liver, and any problems with
your kidneys. The first thing examined is the colorof your urine. Since the color is
amber, that is a good sign its normal. One particular issue that I see with your
urinalysis is that it is turbid. Turbid means there are things that make your urine
cloudy, generally because of your body fighting an infection or because your body
maybe getting rid of stored materials. Since your WBC esterase ,an enzyme usually
found in your immune cells is negative, that means your body isn t necessarily...

Since your glucose or sugar in your urine is negative that is a good sign that you
don t have diabetes. Additionally the lab checked for ketones which is produced
when your bodies breaks down fat. Usually your body will break down fat if it is
not breaking down enough sugar. As you know the body uses insulin to break down
the sugar, so checking for this is a good indication that you are producing enough
insulin. A third part to your urinalysis is to check for the kidneyfunction itself.
Occult blood is due to the kidneys not filtering out the red blood cells and thus
blood would be found in the urine. This value is negative which means that you
probably don t have any kidney problems. Other indications of kidney functions in
the urine are whether or not there is protein in the urine. Proteins such a albumin
should not be going through the kidneys and into the urine because they are used to
keep a balance in your body. Therefore, proteins upset the balance when they leave
through the kidneys. Since you are negative for protein in the urine, you definitely
don t have kidney issues. Your liver function can also be measured by a urinalysis
because of bilirubin, and uribilinogen. When your body breaks down old red blood
cells they form bilirubin, which goes through the liver. That bilirubin is then
converted to urobilinogen, which is 0.0 in your analysis. The fact that these values
are both negative and 0.0,
Environmental Impacts Of The West Nile Virus
Lower return crops such as corn, wheat, cotton and rice will bear the brunt of this
whereas the higher return crops such as nuts, citrus and vine crops will be least
affected (Kowalski, 2015).
As a historically semi arid environment, California has also suffered heavily from
several environmental impacts as a result of the current drought conditions. The first
of these is on its forests. The US Forest Service estimates that 12 million trees have
died in the past year due to drought; this combined with the drying of forest floor
material greatly increases the flammability of the landscape. The result of this is the
numerous devastating wildfires that have swept through the state throughout 2015,
costing not only wildlife and habitat but also human property (CBS News, 2015)
(Lustgarten, et al., 2015) (Google, 2015). Aside from wildfires, the drought and
associated loss of habitat is said to be having a negative effect on both flora and
fauna due to their contribution to the spread of West Nile Virus, whilst also
threatening populations of geese, ducks, salmon and Joshua trees (Lustgarten, et al.,
2015) (Beaudry, 2015). Finally, with groundwater contributing up to 50% of stream
flow in drought, there is a worry that over usage near the coast could result in
irreversible salinization through the drawing in of salt water (USGS, 2016) (Kasler
Reese, 2015).
Economic effects other than those resulting from agricultural losses are also
important when considering the current
Essay on History and Exploration of Villas
History and Exploration of Villas Villa is the Latin word for farm, and can also
mean a large country or suburban house . They ranged from luxurious mansions to
small working farms. Some villas, like Woodchester Roman Villain Gloucestershire
compare with eighteenth century stately homes. They sported lavish mosaic floors,
wall paintings, marble statuary, columns and balustrades. But few Romano British

Another villa with a similar location is Bignor. It was located near Stane Street, for
easy access to Londinium. North Leigh Villa was located near Akeman Street, which
was another major route in Roman Britain. This makes Chedworth a typical villa as
far as location goes. It was near a major communications route, and had easy access
to towns. It was also near a stream, and was built on an intensely farmed piece of
land. As H.H Scullard said of typical villas, One factor was dominant in their choice
of sites: their distance from the town. Villas were working farms, and, therefore had
to be in contact with their markets, so that their viability depended on their access to
roads and towns .
There were many different types of villa. H.H Scullard described the four main
types of villa as the cottage, the winged corridor, the courtyard, and the aisled villa
. Because it was hard to light the inside of the villas, and land availability wasn t
usually a problem, Roman Villas tended to be rows of rooms, or wings. The
simplest were one row, usually with a corridor. Then a pair of small wings might
be added we call this the winged corridor villa, which was very common. To make a
house bigger, wings would be extended around a courtyard. This is what happened to
Mindfulness Meditation In Addiction Counseling (SUD)

s, and their therapists alike. Currently, there has been a dramatic increase in the
number of cases of SUD s along with an increase in methods becoming available to
treat them. This insidious disease is chronic, progressive, and potentially fatal to its
victims, proving the need for effective treatment and compassionate care for the
individuals afflicted. In view of the lack of research despite my arduous search, I

The Underrepresentation Of Gender And Family In...
Contemporary popular culture influences the general publics perception of gender
and family in modern society, this gives the filmmakers and show runners and
incredibly powerful and socially responsible position. Not only is there a pressure
to produce good content, but in these changing times it is unequivocal that
representation is on the forefront of their minds. Unfortunately to many people of
color, women, and those who identify as non binary, this responsibility is not met.
One example of this underrepresentation was seen at the 2015 and 2016 Academy
Awards wherein there seemed to be a severe lack of any people of color despite
raving reviews of both Selma (2015) and Straight Outta Compton (2015). According

  • 2. Shakespeare’s Use of Ovid s Metamorphoses and Virgil s... Shakespeare s Use of Ovid s Metamorphoses and Virgil s Aeneid as Basis for The Tempest William Shakespeare, as did most writers of his time, took the basis for the stories he wrote from other texts. He would use source poems or mythology in order to write his own works. Romeo and Juliet, for example, can be compared to the tragedy of Pyramus and Thisby. Plays such as Richard III and Julius Caesar are artistic accounts of historic events. The Tempest, however, is commonly perceived as an original story. Many critics feel that this was the only story of his that was entirely created by Shakespeare. This is not the case. In fact, there are several sources from which he very much drew inspiration for this tale. Shakespeare used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She calls upon Aeolus, King of the Winds, to cause a mighty storm that will destroy the Trojan fleet. As the storm arises, several ships are destroyed while others are swept away, but eventually Aeneas and some other ships end up in the harbor of an unknown land. Aeneas decides to inspect this strange place, and during his exploration he encounters a huntress. This is actually Venus in disguise, and she informs him that this is the land of Dido, Queen of Carthage. Aeneas meets Dido, who welcomes the Trojans and invites them to her feast. During the feast, Venus has her son Cupid, God of Love, make Dido fall in love with Aeneas. He succeeds, and Dido asks Aeneas to tell her of the fall of Troy, which he does. As time goes by Aeneas and Dido fall in love. Dido neglects her territory, and Aeneas ignores his quest. However, Jupiter, King of Gods, insists that Aeneas get back to his destiny and find a new home for his people. Aeneas obeys, and Dido kills herself with his sword. Aeneas next goes to Cumae in Campania to gain access to the underworld from the Sibyl, or priestess of Apollo, and succeeds. He does so in order to ask his dead father about the future of their race. Eventually Aeneas and his people get to the promised land, where they meet Latinus, the king of a neighboring area. Latinus offers Aeneas the hand of his daughter, Lavinia, but she is sought after by Turnus, King of
  • 3. Refugee Process Supports Reintegration Chances For... Refugee resettlement process supports reintegration chances for refugees and asylum seeker and it gives an approach to a sustainable peace building through their empowerment. There some benefits but despite those things resettlement practices has some challenges as well for refugees and host both countries. Resettlement policy and practices can be analyzed by different context and perspective. In the United States, resettlement policy has become a humanitarian issue which related to human rights and social justice. USCIS has been playing an important role in identifying the refugees documents and supporting them to make legal person in USA. Capps, R., Newland, K. (2015) have discussed that refugee resettlement policy in a different host country like USA from different perspectives for example how to address the primarily pre and post migration issue is different. In this seminal work the author has discussed the increasing diversity of large USA, refugee populations may be making it more challenging for both resettlement agencies and local communities to meet refugee s needs. Furthermore, it also discussed that the origins of refugees are increasingly diverse. This source can be very helpful to conceptualize our basic framework. UNHCR Environmental Management in Refugee Situations Learning Workshop; from an environmental point of view, this source is very good to read. • 4. Social Media And Its Effect On Women Positivity Is Beautiful In today s society it is being brought to the public s attention more often than before that women deserve to be treated fairly. It is discussed on social media and has been viewed on television advertisements. The feminine product seller, always, advertised a commercial. A director named Lauren Greenfield asked girls if they have had some kind of setback when trying to accomplish something because they were a girl. All of them said yes and explained their thoughts. Another advertisement was by Levi jeans and singer/songwriter, Alicia Keys. The setting took place in Brooklyn, New York and she was shown smiling and walking on the sidewalk, interacting with her fans. Also, other women were dancing, and one girl was jumping for joy in the air. Her song 28 Thousand Days was also being played throughout the commercial. Although these two advertisements are trying to sell a product, they are actually influencing women in a positive way. To begin with, both of the advertisements give women confidence. In the always commercial, all of the girls didn t look flashy, they were dressed casually, and had little or no makeup on. In a lot of advertisements women are made to look stimulating, for instance, having a skinny body, a lot of makeup on, and dressed in designer clothes, so when female viewers look at advertisements like that, their confidence starts to get low because they don t see themselves like the models. Those who watched TV three or more nights a
  • 5. Tracking in the U.S. Public Schools Essay Tracking is the grouping of students by perceived academic abilities for instruction. As a pedagogical strategy, tracking was initially introduced into U.S. public schools in the early 1900 s as a way to educate and socialize the broadly changing population of urban, northern cities that swelled from European immigration and poor southern black transplants seeking better opportunities. Societal beliefs of the time regarding distinct division of classes and the requisite assimilation of immigrants into American culture resulted in new educational laws that popularized a system that segregated classrooms into slow, bright and deficient (Ansalone, 2010, p. 4) levels of learners. Tracking was viewed and used as a practical strategy in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second assumption tracking makes is that the practice is equitable, accurate and appropriate. The third assumption claims student affect will be negatively impacted if they are placed in inclusive groups with higher performing classmates. The last assumption claims teachers prefer tracking as an instructional strategy because they prepare for and teach only one ability level at a time. Many studies have been carried out to prove or disprove the effectiveness of tracking and analyze any related social impacts. Following is a review of research for both sides of the debate. In 1990, Slavin reported that tracking had only a small impact on academic achievement. Later, in 2000 and 2006 researchers revealed that average learners had no change in knowledge gain but higher track students showed academic improvement (Ansalone, 2010). While the research to support impressive gains in academic achievement fall short, studies abound with statistics on the negative educational progress the high and low tracking of students has generated. Throughout the 1980 s and 1990 s Hallinan found that standardized test scores were significantly lower for students tracked into low ability classes than if they had been placed in inclusive or high ability groups (Rubin, 2006). Furthermore, a startling 1987 report by Gamoran showed the educational gap between high and low track students was greater than the gap between high school dropouts and high school
  • 6. Postmodernism And Language Postmodernism started in the 20th century and it involved art, architecture, and literature. Postmodern philosophers believe that the world cannot be understood objectively nor there is an absolute truth. Moreover, they think that everyone perceives the world in his own way, there is no common grand between people in understanding the world or perceiving it. While Modern philosophers think the opposite: We are able to comprehend reality because categories exist within our minds that actively generate perception. These categories, Kant assumed, are universally the same in all people. (postmodernpreaching.net). Postmodern philosophers encourage questioning, what seems to be obvious. This is the right thing to do. It is wrong to immediately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Can language objectively describe truth? Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889 1951) believes that language cannot objectively describe truth because each language will add different meanings to the same text. All language is socially conditioned. We understand the world solely in terms of our language games that is, our linguistic, social constructs. (postmodernpreaching.net). According to science, things have changed since newton time. Back then people believed in rationality and absolutes. But now in the 20th century with the development of science, came to light the relativity theory. The relativity theory threw away the absolutes. Russell expressed the view that once people became used to the idea of relativity, it would forever change their way of thinking. They would abandon a belief in absolutes and begin to regard all concepts as relative (postmodernpreaching.net). The correspondence theory of truth caused people to believe that scientific truth equals absolute truth. Postmodernism corrects this by denying the equivalency between scientific truth and absolute truth. All scientific conclusions are now understood to be tentative simply because no one has ever made the infinite number of observations required to learn if there are any exceptions. (postmodernpreaching.net). A class full with postmodernists may not have a curriculum, each one of the students may be left to discover his own

  • 28. Women in the Work Force Essay Women in the Work Force Working in a factory which is similar to living in a third world country is difficult. Horrible, intolerable conditions haunt workers at home and in the working environment. Women lead tough lives because they are dictated orders, by men, in and out of the house. Many women have families to support, so making little salaries is a strain on the family. The main issue with conditions in the work force is that management does not have a clear understanding of what the women and the children working are going through. Working conditionsin third world countries are similar to some working conditions in America. In third world countries, a woman in the family has expected roles as a wife and a mother. ... According to Louie, Like the 19th centruy sweatshop middle men, many of today s subcontractors survive the competition by sweating their workers out of wage, hour, benefits, and safety rights (4). It was hard for women to go home to a similar environment; one that they had faced all day at work. In third world countries, at work there are expectations to be followed from women. According to Stromquist, Another mechanism of social control is the use of sexual stereotypes regarding women s abilities and skills (5). Since women are seen as being weak and feminine, their bosses who were men, thought they could only handle doing jobs that would be too easy for men to do. Women get confused about how they should act at work because women receive conflicting messages about how to perform their jobs. This happens when there are many bosses on duty and all of them want to do things their way. There are conflicting messages because when one boss walks by and the women are yelled at to do a job a certain way and when another boss walks by the women are yelled at to do the same job a different way than before. There are different tasks that women must do on duty. For example, Mrs. Yu Sau Kwan received injuries from activities while on the job. At her job in Chinatown she would get pains in her back, hip, and fingers from sewing nine hundred zippers a day. For this she could have received Workers Compensation, but no one
  • 29. Summary Of The Lord s Messenger Essay In verse nine, I observe that the Lord s messenger asks Hagar to return to a life of servitude despite ill treatment from Sarai. I now question why the Lord might want Hagar to endure this mistreatment, but in verse ten the messenger says that Hagar will be rewarded and given so many children that they cannot be counted. 1 Peter 2:18 may offer some insight as to why Godasks Hagarto return to her master, it says, Household slaves, submit by accepting the authority of your masters with all respect. Do this not only to good and kind masters but also to those who are harsh. I still wonder why the Lord requests her to endure this mistreatment. Verses nine and ten remind me of a couple reoccurring themes from the bible which may help answer some my questions. The first theme concerns God promising many descendants to those who trust in him. Perhaps many descendants embody the greatest reward of this time. The second theme of this passage deals with God uplifting and supporting the marginalized, as highlighted in Matthew 20:16, Those who are last shall be first and those who are first shall be last. In verses 11 12 the Lord s messenger tells Hagar that the Lord has heard of her mistreatment and will thus grant her a son named Ishmael. In verse 12, I observe that Ishmael will be a wild mule of a man, who will fight everyone and live at odds with his relatives. I wonder why the author portrays Ishmael s demeanor of fighting as a positive attribute. In verses 13 and 14, Hagar
  • 30. Democracy And The European Union Introduction: Democracy in the European Union (EU) has been described by academics ranging from a classical case of a gradual de democratisation through integration , to opaque, technocratic, and distant from its citizens . The EU began as an economic union with 6 initial members for integrating Franco German production of coal and steel following Robert Schuman s proposal in the 1950s. It has now become a progressive political union, experiencing many innovations and changes in numerous fields right from the ECSC to the Lisbon treaty. Today, the EU has 28 members representing almost 500 million people. The expansion has resulted in the uprising of new complex problems, democratic deficit being the most pivotal. Christopher Lord defined democratic deficit as insufficiently representative of, or accountable to, the nations and the people of Europe . The phrase was first used by David Marquand in 1979, referring to the then European Economic Community. Democratic deficit in relation to the European Union, refers to a perceived lack of accessibility to the ordinary citizen, or lack of representation of the ordinary citizen, and lack of accountability of European Union institutions. The complex and distant nature of the European institutions have contributed to this argument. This essay discusses the European institutions involved in the legislative process before going on to evaluate the role played by national parliament to combat the deficit, taking into

The Pros And Cons Of Wi-Fi Continual advancement in technology has led to the extension of wireless accessibility due to Wireless Fidelity (Wi Fi), an important phenomenon that has been impacting the world over the past decade (Kioskea, 2015). The name Wi Fi was first coined by Wi Fi Alliance and it refers to wireless Ethernet 802.11 which defines standards for wirelesslocal area networks (WLANs). In comparison with the youth of our grandparents, the novelty, rebellion, and the social normality linked to smoking has significantly depleted. The past decade has altered that perception further and changed the idolization of smoking into a more stigmatized and negative view. Such attitude change has been a process and can be attributed to the utilization of many anti smoking programs. The first large scale national anti smoking program was implemented as a part of the Fairness Doctrine, from 1967 to 1970 (Farrelly et al. 2005). During this time, television networks were required to maintain a balance between anti smoking and pro smoking advertisements. Since then, many other campaigns have taken on the challenge of combatting anti smoking with the tobaccoindustry s promotion. The truth campaign, specifically, imposed an early and effective model for anti smoking programs to follow, therefore making it highly successful. The truth campaign is one of the most recent large scale national anti smoking programs used to change attitudes and beliefs towards smoking. In 1998, the Florida Department of Health launched this tobacco prevention program that featured a mass media campaign (Farrelly et al. 2005). The primary strategy was to employ advertisements with anti tobacco messages in hopes of raising awareness and changing social norms. The campaign countered industry

He acknowledges that multiple viewpoints exist from the inside and outside perspectives. Also, one cannot ignore or discount specific inside experiences as it helps us think about something. Therefore, in Theology205, there will inevitably be many ways to understand life, our purpose, and the people we are becoming. We are also covering the Bible in depth, so some of us will look at the beam if they have never read it, while others will look along the beam if they are familiar with its interpretations. The students who will look along the beam are those who are Christian or Jew, since they already use the Bible as some guidance in life. In contrast, those who look at the beam are ones who are new to this subject, those willing to view this course from a new lens, and those who do not practice Christianityor Judaism.... Williams character tells the boy that he does not truly know anything about him just from looking on the outside, so his judgments are invalid. Despite the abundance in its natural existence, Hydrogen can also be obtained through processes such as the electrolysis of water and methanol steam conversion. Hydrogen as a fuel is capable of the replacement of most of the other sources of energy. However, Hydrogen faces numerous obstacles to its entry into the economy and the utilization by human beings. The technology to contain and manage hydrogen as a fuel is already present. However, the hindrances bar the launch of hydrogen as a basic fuel. The essay discusses the various obstacles to the hydrogen economy such as the market entry issues and issues related to policies. Thesis statement: The government ownership of fossil fuel reservoirs and gas outlet companies is the main obstacle to the launch and adoption of the hydrogen economy. Background and history The use of hydrogen as a fuel requires the adoption of the fuel cells technology for their role in the reaction activity between hydrogen and hydrogen for the production of energy. The fuel cells convert more of their energy potential from the fuel source as compared to the regular gasoline fuels. The insignificance of the impact caused by the bi products of such reactions makes it the much better option than the fossil fuels that face the threat of exhaustion. While the fundamentals of being an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink. Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink on today s voting young adults. In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other jurors had with one another displayed a positive aspect

Habermas writes: the audience does not constitute a space for spectators and listeners but a space for speakers and addresses who engage in debate. (Habermas in Balme 2012). The Public spherehas now become a space, a stage, for performers, speakers and protesters to have a voice rather than for the preliminary use of entertainment for the audience, spectators and listeners. On reading Christopher B. Balme s The theatrical public sphere, the concept of theatre s role in the Public Sphere is explored. Balme traces the origins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Academic and artistic interest in something is usually a sure sign that matters are unclear, conceptual boundaries are blurred and that old certainties are anything but that. There is also little doubt that the major challenges we face: the media revolution, globalization and migration, climate change, the erosion of public finances and services (to name just a few) have all in some way a bearing on the public sphere, the realm where issues are debated and where citizens are free to enter and engage in discourse. As the public sphere is primarily a discursive arena located outside and between state bureaucracies on the one hand and economics and business on the other, it occupies a crucial role in the functioning of so called free societies. The question to be explored here is what role theatre and performance in practice play in this realm and how performance and theatre theory can contribute to the debates. (Balme
  • 49. Sub-Population Analysis Paper growth rate of 35.8% over the fourteen year span or an average rate of 2.6% (United States Census Bureau [U.S. Census Bureau], 2000). Composition The median age in 2010 was 38.5 years with an age group breakdown as follows in Figure 1 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2010). This figure also shows that the number of people in the age range of 20 to 29 is much lower than the surrounding age ranges and this appears to be mostly due to college attendance during these years. Since most four year degree programs are located farther away from Hendersonville and most of them require traditional college freshmen to live on campus for the first year, this sub population is moving away from the area for those years. More information about education is discussed below and can be seen in Figures 4 and 5. Females make up the majority of the population at 26,567 compared to 24,805 for males. Based upon ... • 50. The Influence Of Origen In The Book Of Galatians Origen has showed influences throughout his book because of his allegorical method of interpretation. Just how Paul had used allegorumenu in the book of Galatians 4:24, Origen had recommended that the views of all scriptures grasp more than just literal and historical events. He believes that there is a spiritual cause (Oikonomiai) in becoming closer to God. Origen had faith in this because he wanted to turn against Gnosticism when it flourished. Origen knew that with the right set of people, he would be able to offer an alternative to the Christian system. He introduces this alternatives as God is the only creator, God the Son was born of the father and had created all things including man whom was born a virgin, died and had risen from the dead. He also believed the our spirit exist in free will and that we would be rewarded or punished after death.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Origen discusses this, he is saying that our world is rationally governed and that we become to have superior forces that have both good and evil. Humans are free to make their own choices but it is not easy when they have used all that power and turned it into evil. He was a advocate of the idea from the Trinity calling the Christian s confidence Father and Son and the Heavenly Soul . My interpretation from this is Orgien give a measure of how important the Holy Spirit is, he assumes that a sin committed against the Son can be forgiven but the sin against the Holy Spirit will not
  • 51. Urinalysis Informative Speech Outline Hello Mrs. Graham Ma, I heard from your grandson that you needed an explanation about your urinalysis. First off a urinalysis is a an examination of your urine to see if you have diabetes, an infection, any issues with your liver, and any problems with your kidneys. The first thing examined is the colorof your urine. Since the color is amber, that is a good sign its normal. One particular issue that I see with your urinalysis is that it is turbid. Turbid means there are things that make your urine cloudy, generally because of your body fighting an infection or because your body maybe getting rid of stored materials. Since your WBC esterase ,an enzyme usually found in your immune cells is negative, that means your body isn t necessarily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since your glucose or sugar in your urine is negative that is a good sign that you don t have diabetes. Additionally the lab checked for ketones which is produced when your bodies breaks down fat. Usually your body will break down fat if it is not breaking down enough sugar. As you know the body uses insulin to break down the sugar, so checking for this is a good indication that you are producing enough insulin. A third part to your urinalysis is to check for the kidneyfunction itself. Occult blood is due to the kidneys not filtering out the red blood cells and thus blood would be found in the urine. This value is negative which means that you probably don t have any kidney problems. Other indications of kidney functions in the urine are whether or not there is protein in the urine. Proteins such a albumin should not be going through the kidneys and into the urine because they are used to keep a balance in your body. Therefore, proteins upset the balance when they leave through the kidneys. Since you are negative for protein in the urine, you definitely don t have kidney issues. Your liver function can also be measured by a urinalysis because of bilirubin, and uribilinogen. When your body breaks down old red blood cells they form bilirubin, which goes through the liver. That bilirubin is then converted to urobilinogen, which is 0.0 in your analysis. The fact that these values are both negative and 0.0,
  • 52. Environmental Impacts Of The West Nile Virus Lower return crops such as corn, wheat, cotton and rice will bear the brunt of this whereas the higher return crops such as nuts, citrus and vine crops will be least affected (Kowalski, 2015). As a historically semi arid environment, California has also suffered heavily from several environmental impacts as a result of the current drought conditions. The first of these is on its forests. The US Forest Service estimates that 12 million trees have died in the past year due to drought; this combined with the drying of forest floor material greatly increases the flammability of the landscape. The result of this is the numerous devastating wildfires that have swept through the state throughout 2015, costing not only wildlife and habitat but also human property (CBS News, 2015) (Lustgarten, et al., 2015) (Google, 2015). Aside from wildfires, the drought and associated loss of habitat is said to be having a negative effect on both flora and fauna due to their contribution to the spread of West Nile Virus, whilst also threatening populations of geese, ducks, salmon and Joshua trees (Lustgarten, et al., 2015) (Beaudry, 2015). Finally, with groundwater contributing up to 50% of stream flow in drought, there is a worry that over usage near the coast could result in irreversible salinization through the drawing in of salt water (USGS, 2016) (Kasler Reese, 2015). Economic effects other than those resulting from agricultural losses are also important when considering the current
  • 53. Essay on History and Exploration of Villas History and Exploration of Villas Villa is the Latin word for farm, and can also mean a large country or suburban house . They ranged from luxurious mansions to small working farms. Some villas, like Woodchester Roman Villain Gloucestershire compare with eighteenth century stately homes. They sported lavish mosaic floors, wall paintings, marble statuary, columns and balustrades. But few Romano British villas were as posh as this. The majority were considerably smaller and included houses, like Sparsholt, farmhouses with outbuildings where owners could only afford one mosaic. A villawasn t just a building. The term... North Leigh Villa was located near Akeman Street, which was another major route in Roman Britain. This makes Chedworth a typical villa as far as location goes. It was near a major communications route, and had easy access to towns. It was also near a stream, and was built on an intensely farmed piece of land. As H.H Scullard said of typical villas, One factor was dominant in their choice of sites: their distance from the town. Villas were working farms, and, therefore had to be in contact with their markets, so that their viability depended on their access to roads and towns . There were many different types of villa. H.H Scullard described the four main types of villa as the cottage, the winged corridor, the courtyard, and the aisled villa . Because it was hard to light the inside of the villas, and land availability wasn t usually a problem, Roman Villas tended to be rows of rooms, or wings. The simplest were one row, usually with a corridor. Then a pair of small wings might be added we call this the winged corridor villa, which was very common. To make a house bigger, wings would be extended around a courtyard. This is what happened to
  • 54. Mindfulness Meditation In Addiction Counseling (SUD) Introduction Although more research on Mindfulness Meditation is needed in general, recent literature on the subject has been encouraging for patients of SUD s, and their therapists alike. Currently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases of SUD s along with an increase in methods becoming available to treat them. This insidious disease is chronic, progressive, and potentially fatal to its victims, proving the need for effective treatment and compassionate care for the individuals afflicted. In view of the lack of research despite my arduous search, I have ascertained that MM and its potential in treating substance abuse is in great need. In fact, most of the studies I managed to find were not specific to substance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposal here is to invite participants complete two questionnaires, one before engaging in Mindfulness Meditation, and one after. There will be two groups of 25, one group will participate in the Mindfulness Meditation, the other will do typical CBT treatment. All of the participants will be given questionnaires, one at the beginning of a 12 week commitment to treatment for a Substance Abuse Disorder, and one after its completion. Those chosen for the experimental group will attend Mindful Meditation sessions Monday Friday for half an hour for 12 weeks. The sessions will consist of some formal meditation practice, either Focused Attention, Open Monitoring, or Loving kindness and Compassion meditation followed by some group processing. Additionally, the participants will be encouraged to continue their practice of formal Mindful Meditation over the week ends, and incorporate informal mindfulness into their daily endeavors. The assessment will determine various components that are indicative of the recovery process including reduced
  • 55. The Underrepresentation Of Gender And Family In... Contemporary popular culture influences the general publics perception of gender and family in modern society, this gives the filmmakers and show runners and incredibly powerful and socially responsible position. Not only is there a pressure to produce good content, but in these changing times it is unequivocal that representation is on the forefront of their minds. Unfortunately to many people of color, women, and those who identify as non binary, this responsibility is not met. One example of this underrepresentation was seen at the 2015 and 2016 Academy Awards wherein there seemed to be a severe lack of any people of color despite raving reviews of both Selma (2015) and Straight Outta Compton (2015). According to a study done by the USC s
