This slideshow is a school assignment. Its a slideshow that goes along with a research paper I wrote. The paper is about how living in poverty effects adult's and the way they learn.
2. Poverty & Lack of Education Form A
Vicious Cycle
Generational Poverty is defined as
being in poverty for two generations
or longer (Payne, 2003).
Situational poverty exists for a
shorter time and is caused by
circumstances like death, illness, or
divorce (Payne, 2003).
1/3 of U.S. population possess a
Bachelor degree.
24.8% of adults without a high school
diploma live below poverty line
3. Illiterate= a person having little or no education; especially
unable to read or write.
43% of adults who are illiterate also live in poverty (Bellso, 2016)
Adults who are illiterate cannot read a menu, fill out a job application or
read a bedtime story to their children.
Children whose parents have low literacy skills have a 72%chance
themselves for being at the lowest reading level of their age group (Bellso,
2016).
Adult education can help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and
illiteracy by equipping adults with the skills they need to be successful
workers and parents (Bellso, 2016).
4. W.W.J.D?
Jesus Christ, the greatest teacher of all
time did not turn away from the dumb
or illiterate.
He chose these types of people to be
his disciples.
Common fisherman turned into
preachers & missionaries!
Jesus took the time to teach these
people, he empowered them through
his teaching, often in the form of
parables & stories.
5. HOW CAN WE HELP BREAK THE CYCLE?
