Poverty is defined as a lack of material possessions necessary to live a decent quality of life. In the Philippines, over 22 million people, more than one-fifth of the population, live below the national poverty line. Poverty has negative impacts on health and development, as those living in poverty experience worse physical and mental health outcomes and are at higher risk for unhealthy behaviors. Poverty also affects children's growth and development both physically and cognitively. While some believe poverty can be overcome through hard work alone, reports show many Filipinos work hard yet remain in poverty due to unstable socioeconomic conditions.
Poverty is general scarcity or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Poverty in Pakistan has fallen dramatically, independent bodies supported estimates of a considerable fall in the statistic by the 2007-08 fiscal year, when it was estimated that 17.2% of the total population lived below the poverty line

Up the Ratios Bylaws - a Comprehensive Process of Our Organizationuptheratios
Up the Ratios is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap in STEM education for underprivileged students by providing free, high-quality learning opportunities in robotics and other STEM fields. Our mission is to empower the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers by offering a range of educational programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
At Up the Ratios, we believe that every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in today's technology-driven world. To achieve this, we host a variety of free classes, workshops, summer camps, and live lectures tailored to students from underserved communities. Our programs are designed to be engaging and hands-on, allowing students to explore the exciting world of robotics and STEM through practical, real-world applications.
Our free classes cover fundamental concepts in robotics, coding, and engineering, providing students with a strong foundation in these critical areas. Through our interactive workshops, students can dive deeper into specific topics, working on projects that challenge them to apply what they've learned and think creatively. Our summer camps offer an immersive experience where students can collaborate on larger projects, develop their teamwork skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.
In addition to our local programs, Up the Ratios is committed to making a global impact. We take donations of new and gently used robotics parts, which we then distribute to students and educational institutions in other countries. These donations help ensure that young learners worldwide have the resources they need to explore and excel in STEM fields. By supporting education in this way, we aim to nurture a global community of future leaders and innovators.
Our live lectures feature guest speakers from various STEM disciplines, including engineers, scientists, and industry professionals who share their knowledge and experiences with our students. These lectures provide valuable insights into potential career paths and inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM.
Up the Ratios relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue our work. Contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are crucial to sustaining our programs and expanding our reach. Whether you're an individual passionate about education, a professional in the STEM field, or a company looking to give back to the community, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
We are proud of the positive impact we've had on the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM. By providing these young minds with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are not only changing their futures but also contributing to the advancement of technology and innovation on a broader scale.

2. WHAT IS POVERTY?
Poverty is lack of money or any
material possessions, it means of
experiencing a low quality life
deprived of both material and non-
material requirements that allow an
individual to live like a human being.
A condition in which people are
unable to buy minimal amount of
food, clothing and shelter that are
required for existence.
3. Republic of the Philippines
22 million Filipinos more than one
fifth of the population who still
live below the national poverty
line as of 2015. Severe number of
hunger who dropped from 3.7% in
the last 3 months as of 2017.
Moderate hunger fell from 12.2%
in the December survey. The
highest incidence of self-rate
hunger was in Luzon wherein 1.1
million families said they suffered
hunger at least 3 months of their
lives.
4. POVERTY ON HEALTH
“Every people that permits people
to remain under the fetters of
preventable disease and permits
social conditions to exist that make
it impossible for them to be
properly fed, clothed and houses,
so as maintain a high degree of
resistance and physical fitness,and
that endorses a wage that does not
afford sufficient- revenue for
home, a revenue that will make
possible to the development of
mind and body” Dr. Charles
Hastings, City of Toronto(1910-
1929).
5. Poverty on Development
Poverty affects child’s overall
growth such as physically,
emotionally, and their cognitive
health and development. They
most likely experience family
related stress that can negatively
affect their emotional well being.
They also have an increase risk of
developing unhealthy behavior
such as smoking that could impact
on their future health
6. Perception of Filipinos
Poverty has become so normalized
that society tends to believe that
the only solution to get out from it
is hard work, as if being poor is
the lack of an individual will to get
out from poverty. Human always
dreaming of having many
possessions either financially or
any sorts. Believed that poverty
has a ladder that everyone should
climb and strictly follow to
achieve specific goal.
7. Poverty Reports
The world bank reported that there
are 22 million Filipinos (more than
one fifth of the population), who
still lining below the national
poverty lane as of 2015.
Meanwhile society still stuck
believing that “Poverty is not a
hindrance to success” basis from
rags to reaches stories, without
thinking that the majority of
Filipinos work hard, day and night
but their socio economic status
remains unstable and deplorable
8. EFFECTS
This problem affects our
education, our economy its
becoming a norm and people
seems to be reluctant of it. What
was once a local, and regional
problem ,is now a national issue
that will affect our progress
towards a bright future. Economic
growth had gone through a boom
of bust cycle the recent episodes of
moderate economic expansion
have had limited impact on the
poor.
9. BASIS
On average, children living in low
family income pr neigborhood
have poorer health outcomes.
Furthermore, poverty affect child
health not only when they are
young but also on their later lives
as adults. The health effects of
poverty and articulates the health
related.
10. ANALYSIS:
Poverty kills the true meaning of
life, hunger, unemployment. The
agony of the poor. Reckless vulgar
emotion that stopped them to rise
rather pulling them to the deepest
level of poverty lane. What are the
things we could do to help them?
But the biggest question remains
unanswered. Can we still eliminate
poverty? Was there a chance of
survival? Who is to blame of many
sufferings or who would take
responsibility for this?
