Frontiers Of Love Themes
Second Theme Exam
Discuss the central moral issue of two of the authors as expressed in their books.
For my paper I chose to write about the books Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Frontiers of Love by
Diana Chang. Although one book is a work of fiction and the other is a memoir the two books discuss
central moral issues involving main characters in their use of theme. Ayaan in the book, Infidel
discusses her life and religious upbringings. Her neglectful father and her abusive mother along with
an arranged marriage. In the book, Frontiers of Love, Diana Chang discusses the racial issues in her
culture. The book follows the lives of three different Eurasians who are working to find themselves in
love amongst other things in this racist world. In the book Infidel, Ayaan marries her cousin and is ...

It is looked upon that in the memoir, Infidel, woman are treated as dirt and this ultimitely leads to her
leaving the home she once knew. This inspiring true story sheds light on a issue that most including
myself are blind sighted by. The story is upsetting, more so because it is facts, the issues in this book
aren t make believe but a true story of a young woman and her journy for the freedom we take
forgranted. In Frontiers of Love by Diana Chang, the novel although a work of fiction still has some
insight on racism that didn t just occur years ago but still occurs in some countrys today. Each
character in her book had their own racial issue to overcome even if it was against oneself. The
enlightening story of three main characters brings to light a look upon what it was like for some mixed
enthicities. Today, we still find racism in other ways, people are still today called names that are of
different mixes . Each author although telling different stories made their main points completely clear
throughout their book and each book had its own heartache to

Comparing the Cultures of The Ik, The Pomo Indians, and The Nayar Society of Southern India

The Nayar Society of Southern India The Ik is a culture from Northern Uganda. The Pomo Indians is a

also be mentioning some things from my culture, which is the Yoruba culture. The Yoruba tribe is

While one of husbands is visiting her, she would put weapons in front of her house, to notify the other
husbands jus in case they decided to visit her at the time when one of her other husbands was there.
Instead of relying on her husbands to protect her, provide her with food, money and things husbands
would normally provide, the Nayar women relied on their brothers or sisters.
Comparing these cultures to each other, you can see that they are very different. For one the Ik culture
don t have concern for family at all while the Pomo Indians think life is all about family but the Nayar
Society didn t seem to think of themselves as family but as associates to each other to carry the
generation on. From looking at the positive views on family, I would say that the Pomo Indians are the
most caring culture out of the three cultures, and while the Ik may seem like a horrible culture, I
would say that the Nayar Society is the worst as it seems like a disorganised and uncaring culture.
When it comes to my culture, we believe that family is very, very important. We believe that you need
your family to be there to support you through the good and bad times and to help you and train you as
you grow up. You also need your family to help with the progress of the family. In the olden days, it
was believed that it was the job of the boy(s) and the father to go out to the

Jurassic Era Research Paper
The beginning of the Jurassic brought a new climate. The weather changed from arid, dry, and
seasonal to humid, hot, and stable. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush
jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two
new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had
more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents
more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. New species are being discovered to
this day from the Jurassic Period due to the immense diversity amongst them. The species diversity
included three main dinosaur groups, the Sauropods, the Theropods, ... Show more content on

The main dinosaurs that died off were Sauropod dinosaurs, long necked, four legged dinosaurs, and
stegosauridae, class holding Stegosaurus. Other species that died include ammonites, similar to the
living animals called nautilus, many marine reptiles, and bivalves, relatable to modern mollusca. Not
much is known about this extinction. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to
volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The
Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed
a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the
lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the
continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not
yet look exactly the same. The continents will be further shaped by volcanic activity and tectonic plate
activity. The shaping of the modern era was under way. Many other animals besides dinosaurs lived
during the Cretaceous. These animals were very diverse and included pterosaurs, ancient flying
reptiles,

Skin Aging Research Paper
Since reaching the age of 44 years old activities that 40 year olds do has not stopped me from being
active. Besides recognizing and feeling the age of 40 something it feels great nothing has changed, the
only thing that comes upon me is the maturity and experience of what to do and how to do it. Age has
not crept up on me yet I only have one gray hair in the middle of my scalp, I feel well rested
physically and mentally being 44 years old. People in their 40s complain about their health, keeping
youth, how long to live by making too many doctors appointments, and getting tarot cards or zodiac
readings. By the time I got to my forties strangers wanted to know what products I use to stay
youthful. As a result of keeping the crow s feet off my eyes and mouth, there are special kinds of
lotions and creams I use to stop the process of any effects of skin aging and damage from happening.
Now thinking with a very low budget the products I purchase all of the items are from the dollar tree
store and it s not that expensive it s only one dollar, especially if you have somewhat of trouble skin.
The dollar tree store in New Jersey sales lotions, like Shea butter, diabetic, extra dry, ultimate dry, and

The Doctrine Of The Roman Catholic Church
It has long been considered a taboo to question the actions or beliefs of leaders. However, when one
blindly accepts these actions or beliefs, one creates an institution for immoral actions which become
increasingly more complicated to overcome. Can authority be trusted, or should it be questioned? One
can look back throughout history and literature to see a plethora of cases where the trust conferred
onto authority was abused. During the fifteenth century, Galileo questioned the roman catholic church.
Martin Luther also questioned the Catholic church in the sixteenth century, and in George Orwell s
Animal Farm, the animals questioned their human masters.
During the fifteenth century, the Catholic church was the authority on scientific knowledge. The
Catholic church taught geocentrism, the belief that the sun revolves around the earth. Galileo, an
Italian scientist at the time dared to challenge the Catholic church. He made a number of observations
which proved that the geocentric model, a model taught and widely circulated by the church was
wrong. His observations showed that the heliocentric model, a model proposed by Copernicus which
states that the earth revolves around the sun, was correct. For standing up and questioning the church,
Galileo was suspected of heresy and as such, he was sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life.
While Galileo was punished for speaking out against the Catholic church, he continued to compile his
scientific research from the

In 1970 s, the Colombian poor farmers began planting Marijuana in purpose of an alternative to legal
crops to survive producing. In the 1970 s the Colombian organized crime had been accelerated when
criminal groups tried to cash in on the obsession for cocaine in the United States by importing coca
leaf from Bolivia and Peru into cocaine hydrochloride (HCL) then trafficking it to the United States.
(InSight Crime, n.d.). During the time of Pablo Escobar in 1980 s the first major cocaine cartels

To address the problem, the administration of President Clinton released a National Interest Waiver
that will prevent Colombia from attaining a failing grade. Despite having no chance of averting the
illegal drug trade, Colombia was continued to be given U.S aid in order to prevent increase of trade
(Sweeney, 1995). On the same year, the United States started to implement judgment (PBS.org, n.d.)

identified that America is one of the biggest consumer of drugs and Colombia has ranked third in the
consumption per capita in the world. Sweeney mentioned that this might lead to economic reforms
and manipulate the region s weak political and judicial institutions because every state in America has
a severe drug crisis and the drug cartels are influenced by Latin American. Congress should ask for an

Analysis Of Lindsay Lohan s The Crucible
A bright beautiful sunny day that was distraught by a flock of raucous and exasperating sounds of
paparazzi s camera flashes directly gazing at a woman s pale white face covered in big fancy
sunglasses wearing a white dress. The aggravated look shined all throughout the woman s face.
Multiple deputies encircled, guiding her in a straight path towards the entrance doors. A cheerful long
yellow tape written, POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS in black font stretched along the sidewalk,
remained only as the barrier between them. With the crowd sporadically calling out LINDSAY!
coming from every direction, one can distinguish the woman to be as the troubled Hollywood
celebrity, Lindsay Lohan. Walking past the mob, she hurriedly entered the big doors of a building with
a signage that says Beverly Hills Courthouse . Moments later, a judge, before her, is seen ordering her

The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Short, Happy Life of...
Ernest Hemingway was an intricate and dedicated writer who devoted a significant portion of his life
to writing multiple genres of stories. Throughout his stories, the similarities in his style and technique
are easily noted and identified. Two of the short stories he wrote contain themes and motifs that
specifically explain the plotline. The first story, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, sets its scene in the depths
of a desolate area in Africa, where the main characters, Harry and his wife, decide to make their home.
After living there for a few years, Harry ventures out and falls into a thorn bush, thus infecting his leg
with gangrene. A few weeks later, he finds himself on the brink between life and death, unable to treat

The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber also contains the theme of arduous moral situations for
the characters. Margot, the wife of Francis, is challenged by the temptation to have relations with their
tour guide. Eventually, she commits the crime of adultery, and her husband finds out about her crime
and is deeply shaken. Well, why doesn t he keep his wife where she belongs? What does he think I am,
a bloody plaster saint? Let him keep her where she belongs. It s his own fault (Hemingway 13). By the
tone of Wilson thoughts, it is inferred that he is not able to find fault in himself and decides to blame it
on the most vulnerable person, Francis. In spite of Wilson being the only man to blame for this whole
incident, Margot can also take part of the blame. She appears to be a faithful and caring wife, but her
actions do not justify this statement. As stated in Short Stories for Students: The phrase well kept is
particularly revealing in its multiple meanings. On one hand, Margot is fashionable and presents
herself well. Furthermore, she is kept by her husband in a state of luxurious affluence. Ironically, she
is not well kept by her husband at all, as she freely and unapologetically commits adultery. Her
marriage to Francis Macomber is obviously not a happy one. ( Short Happy 214) Margot is a
fundamental aspect in the sense that her decisions affect

Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est
A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers,
however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further
understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this
poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to
warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country.
When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the
government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge,
something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new
threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the
soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man
struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After
watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the
images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and
challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his
face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). Nationalism plays a huge role

There are many family films out there that portray the important fundamentals and morals for children
to perceive such as values in caring for your family, or values in education, or even the equality and
equity we struggle with. Parents and guardians need to take stand in focusing on the messages in the
films our children are watching, and fill their minds with the positive messages in this world. Children
should not be learning to develop an animosity or bias on cultures or nationalities, or high or low
classes, they should be focusing on the lesson to love everyone equally, and treating every person the
same, and with the respect as they deserve. This film portrays an unrealistic realization for kids and it
is causing a negative outlook on their own ideologies and views in society. This film proves many
apprehensions and reasoning in why it is an appropriate film for kids to be watching, and it is very
important we stop filling their minds with this logic, and start filling their minds with the true
importance and morals in life, encountering them with a positive outlook on the

Queen Matilda Of England And The Marriage Table A Dowry Of...
Queen Matilda of England brought to the marriage table a dowry of estates. While, she did not grant
William great wealth, she did possess great wealth of her own. Roughly one fourth of the wealth of
Matilda and William belonged to Matilda. She presented her husband with the ship the Mora as a
symbol of her approval of his conquest of England. Matilda, being well educated and capable, served
as regent of Normandy while her husband was away in England. Matilda made the journey to England
in 1068 where she was crowned Queen of England. Matilda, like many queens of her time, actively
participated in government. Roughly one hundred charters bear Matilda s name, suggesting that she
occasionally maintained full responsibility of Normandy in her husband s absence. Matilda became a
wealthy landowner in England, where she held lands in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire,
Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Gloucestershire. She maintained contact with her
family in Flanders and even provided William with Flemish men for his army. She was also a key
player in King William s rule of England, hearing land pleas and negotiating with nobles. Matilda
played a lesser role in foreign politics than her husband. She did, however, maintain contacts with the
Church. She sent gifts to French abbots and German hermits along with open contact with Pope
Gregory VII. Pope Gregory VII encouraged Matilda to bring her husband closer to the church where

Function and Structure of Hemoglobin and Myoglobin Essay
Myoglobin consist of single polypeptide chain that made up of 153 amino acid and ahs a size of 18
kDa. Its three dimensional structure was first determined by X ray crystallography by John Kendrew
in 1957. Myoglobin is a typical globular protein in that it is a highly folded compact structure with
most of the hydrophobic amino acid residues buried in the interior and many of the polar residues on
the surface. X ray crystallography revealed that the single polypeptide chain of myoglobin consist of
entirely of eight (labelled A H) alpha helical. Within a hydrophobic crevice formed by the folding
polypeptide chain is the heme prosthetic group. This nonopolypepetide unit is noncovalently bound to
myoglobin and is essential for the biological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these is to a histidine residue which lies eight residues along helix F of hemoglobin, the
proximal hitidine (His F8). The sixth bond is to one of the oxygen atoms in a molecule of oxygen.
Near to where the oxygen binds to the heme group is another histidine residue, the distal histidine (His
E7). This serves two very important functions. First, preventing neightboring hemoglobin molecules
coming into contact with one another and oxidizing to the Fe3+ state, cause no longer bind to oxygen.
Sencond, lowering the affinity of the heme for CO by preventing carbon monoxide binding with the
most favourable configuration to the Fe2+. This is important because the protein can no longer bind
oxygen once CO has bound irreversibly to the heme,. Thus, although the oxygen binding site in
hemoglobin and myglobin is only a small part of the whole protein, the polypeptide chain modulates
the function of the heme prosthetic group.
Hemoglobin can bind four molecules of oxygen due to its four heme groups, whereas myoglobin can
only bind to one oxygen. The kinetics of oxygen binding of hemoglobin and myoglobin are quite
different. Myoglogin exhibit a hyperbolic oxygen binding curve and hemoglobin exhibit a sigmoidial
oxygen binding curve. The sigmodial curve suggest the the cooperative exist in the hemolglobing
oxygen bind mechanism. The initial binding of an oxygen molecule to a hemoglobin subunit

Key Policies Recommendations For ABC Investment Plc
3.0 Key Policies Recommendations for ABC Investment Plc. to be successful
Vital policies are recommended in this report and should be considered and implemented by ABC
Investment Plc for the broadcasting business to be successful within the EU Region in the next ten
years such as: Due Diligence; Acquisition Strategy; Strategic Management Objectives (SMO); Ethical
Polices; Corporate Governance Practices; Corporate Social Responsibilities; Performance
Measurement and Management (PMM).
3.1 Due Diligence
The first recommendation is for ABC Investment Plc. to carryout due diligence in all its investments
and expansion in the EU region. Due diligence is the careful analysis of the target company (e.g. UK

overall objectives. e.g. the designing and implementation of a new pricing policy to attract new
customers different their major competitors. The operational objectives will be targets based which are
the short term steps that need to be put in place to ensure that other objectives become, and remain,
feasible e.g. providing broadcasting communicating equipment s and infrastructures in major urban
areas to cater for the future increase in customer numbers before the current year end. Perhaps they
should also adopt SMO which involves providing valuable information for managerial decision
making with particular reference to the external aspects of the broadcasting business, including their

Van Gogh Research Paper
Van Gogh created more than 43 self portraits between 1885 and 1889.[231][note 13] They were
usually completed in series, such as those painted in Paris in mid 1887, and continued until shortly
before his death.[232] Generally the portraits were studies, created during introspective periods when
he was reluctant to mix with others, or when he lacked models, and so painted himself.[222][233] The
self portraits reflect a degree of self scrutiny that, according to Hughes, is seldom if ever apparent in
an artist.[234] Often they mark important periods in his development, for example in the mid 1887
Paris series, where he became influenced by Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne and Signac.[235] In Self

Adultery Corrupts Society Essay
People use many descriptive words or phrases in an attempt to avoid the term adultery; unfaithfulness,
infidelity, playing the field, extramarital relations, and having an affair are just a few. Regardless of
how the act is labeled, the net result ends in the destruction of reputation, trust, and respect. Ancient
cultures understood adultery to be dangerous, even the writers of the Bible granted the act its own
Thou Shalt Not. Many societies, including the U.S., have outlawed adultery; in some cultures the
penalty for this crime is death by stoning. That being said how is it allowable for adultery to be

not? Adultery is the seductive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No, this is not about the sex; it is about what should be the crime of adultery. Social conservative

In such a society that condones industries such as AshleyMadison.com who trademarked the slogan

Example Of Government Manipulation
Government Manipulation The United States government claims that that they are always for the
people of America. And make it sound patriotic and civilized like everything is going the way it
should. When in reality they are hiding the truth from the U.S citizens whether it is education, laws, or
news from the media. The United States government continues to buy/adopt new government plans
through media that we are not always fully aware of. John Maxwell Hamilton/ Kevin Kosar explain
specific ways in which they are doing to control what we choose/pay for. We have a right to know
which companies receive government contracts, how to collect insurance benefits and social security
payments and what public school educational reform will look like. But too often, the government
uses its information machinery to do more than simply inform us about a policy. Sometimes, it tries to
persuade us to adopt a particular position, regardless of its efficacy. What Hamilton and Kosar are
saying is that the government is very bias about media propaganda and persuading the people of the
United States about plans/regulations that we barely understand or know about, into using our own
money towards what they want. Rather than the other choices that they did not want us to know. This
also relates to large news sources such as, Fox News and CNN, who tend to have a bias point of view
with little background information as possible. People tend to believe Fox News because of their
popularity and

Serial Killers And The United States
Introduction Serial murder crime though rare, is not a a new phenomenon. This crime has been
committed for centuries and will continue to be a crime that is committed throughout the world. It is
unfortunate and scary that this is probably one of the most serious of crimes that cannot be prevented.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, serial murderers commit their crimes because they want
to. Rehabilitation is not obtainable for serial killers due to their inability for remorse and empathy, or
to see people as people and not objects(Knight 2006). This research paper will focus primarily on
serial murder within the U.S. First and foremost, a legal definition provided by the U.S. Department of
Justice will be presented to set forth the discussion of this research paper. As follows will be a detailed
discussion explaining serial killer typologies with the use of examples of known serial killers in the
U.S. Types of serial killers are: power oriented, mission oriented, visionary, and hedonistic, each
typology will be clearly defined and explained. Some serial killers can have a mixture of each
typology s characteristic. Serial killers that will be discussed and used as examples to represent the
content of this research paper will be, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Robert Berdella, Jeffery Dahmer,
and lastly the most prolific serial killer in American history, Gary Ridgeway. Problems with studying
serial killing, are that because of rarity and access. Most of what we think

Developing The Skills For Treating Mental Health Of Others...
Developing the skills to treat mental health of others is exponentially more difficult without the
support from a strong training about a human s physical health. As one substrate binds to an enzyme a
cog turns causing a chain reaction to the whole body, but the body is more than just a machine; it has a
soul that encompasses emotions and thoughts. Immersed in my biochemistry textbook, I looked for
the bridge between the text and my own body. My curiosity sky rocketed; my mind is set on
expanding and applying my bank of knowledge. Not for a split second would I turn back, this pursuit
embodies my desires. From these pages, I wish to translate this fuel to empower others; for them to go
home from the clinic with security and the highest trust from me. I began my quest for building that
bridge by walking towards the patient s room at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Dr. Morkis, a
primary care physician. The worn out look of hopelessness was pasted on each patient s face, no one
wanted to be there. The first patient, Ron, walked in gritting his teeth and his fists clenched. Once
Morkis spoke to Ron, his utter rage shrunk to a mellow rest. My eyes dilated in disbelief as if I had
just witnessed magic. Morkis formed a deep loving connection with speeds I had never seen. My mind
was racing for answers͖ how did she do that? The informal approach in the conversations between
Morkis and her patients showed a great deal of compassion and trust. He shared precious personal

German Occupation Of Poland Dbq Essay
During World War II, non Jewish Poles had to decide whether to obey the new laws in German

The Effect Of Flicker Paradigm On Visual Perception
Discussion The purpose of the study was to measure the effect that the Flicker Paradigm had on visual
perception. The Flicker Paradigm causes a distraction while there is a change made in the image. It
was designed to test how long the groups took to react to a change in the visual field. The test is meant
to show that the disturbance in the visual field made it much more challenging for the viewer to notice
any changes that were made in the image. The hypothesis stated that the experimental group, the
group using the Flicker Paradigm, would take longer to notice the change in the visual field than the
control group, which had no flicker between the altered images. This is because the disturbance in the
visual field caused the brain to miss the change that was made to the image because the information
was deemed as unimportant. The majority of the perceived changes occurred in the background of the
scene, and were considered minor in reference to the whole scene. This was proven true from the data
collected, and coincided with previous tests. (Rensink, R. A. 2000). The data in tables 1.1 and 1.3
shows the individual participant data for the test with a flicker for both tests one and two. Tables 1.2
and 1.4 represent the individual results for the tests with no flicker, or the control group. Graphs 1.1
and 1.2 showed the relationship between the time taken to recognize alterations in the images. The

Experimental And Analytical Studies Have Increased...
Introduction 1: Over the past quarter century, the number of both experimental and analytical studies
have increased dramatically on the monotonic axial behavior of FRP confined concrete columns, and
as a result, many uniaxial stress strain models have been generally developed; however, most of these
studies have focused largely on FRP confined circular plain (unreinforced) concrete cylinders

However, the number of studies on the axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined RC columns

Database Environment Intro
The Tampa Art Museum needs to track the artwork, artists, and locations where the art is displayed or
stored within the museum. Currently The Tampa Art Museum is using an inaccurate set of
spreadsheets to keep track of art, artist, and location data within the Museum and it is very
cumbersome for end users. The Project teams Goal is to create a reliable database to streamline
operations at the museum and make inventory accurate and reliable.
Database Environment
The database environment consists of the system hardware, software, people, procedures, and data.
The hardware that will be used for the database is a network of Dell ... Show more content on

The data in the database will represent the artwork, artists, and locations art is stored within the
museum. The data will be stored into tables created with Microsoft Access.
Problems Constraints
The problems and constraints for the new database will be the gathering of data that needs to be
represented in the new database. At the present time Microsoft Excel spreadsheets are being used to
store data on art, artists, and art locations. These spreadsheets are not always updated and accurately
represented on all present workstations. The data needs to be gathered and documented before the new
database can be created to insure that the new database will be accurate.
Time is another constraint of the new database project. The database needs to be operational before the
beginning of the next fiscal year and within the allotted budget of $20,000. The budget is allotted for
labor only as all the hardware and software has already been obtained for the database.
Database Objectives
The objective of the database is to document what art, artists, and location of the art is contained
within the museum. This will help museum project leaders know exactly what the museum has for art
on hand, and to organize the inventory and prepare for future exhibits.
Scope
The scope of the new database is to define all the art, artist, and art locations within the museum. The
database will only contain information about the art, artist, and location of the art within

Should Obese People Have Higher Premiums. “Today We Have
Should obese people have higher premiums Today we have a health insurance industry where the first

insurance over other people is discrimination to this world. There are thin people who have high risk
behavior or have family histories that will cause them to develop medical problems. But because their
BMI is normal their premiums are less. I don t know many adults. Especially women, who have a
BMI in the normal range. It is not an accurate indicator of good health. BMI is not perfect but it does
give a relatively good indication for weight. People confuse overweight with obese. Obese is a BMI
over 30 with some wiggle room for build. I would put a cut off after BMI 37 for so. Most people have
no idea and don t want to hear that the majority of their health problems are due to being tremendously
overweight. We are not talking about losing 20 40 pounds. It s estimated that 65% or more of health

Success Is No Illusion Greater Than Fear Essay
There is no illusion greater than fear. Lao Tzu. Most successful men and women entrepreneurs do not
let fear hold them back from achieving what they want. They know that success is not just about
having a dream but by overcoming the fear of failure and taking action on that dream or else it will
always remain a dream and never a reality. Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks and former owner of
the Seattle Supersonics, probably realized this at an early age. Howard Schultz was born on July 19,
1953, in Brooklyn, New York and grew up not having much as a child, living in the Brooklyn projects
with his parents and two other siblings. He later went to Northern Michigan University on a football
scholarship but decided not to play and instead pursued an academic degree. In 1975, Howard Schultz
graduated with a BA in Communications and immediately went to work for Xerox Corp. in the sales
and marketing division, which eventually led him to Starbucks (Howard).
The original Starbucks was founded in 1971, in Seattle s historic Pike Place Market, by three owners
Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker; who later on hired Howard Schultz to be their director
of sales in 1982 (Sun). During Schultz s trip to Italy, he saw the importance of how coffee played a
role in the social life of most Italians. It was a main point for the neighborhood, where friends met,
mingled and lingered throughout the day. After returning to Seattle, Howard Schultz brought his idea

With the advent of Internet and particularly the e commerce business, the scenario has changed to a

following factors have changed:
1) The customers are willing to choose from the number of model provided by the companies instead

Nonconformity As A Social Norm Essay
The social norm that I have decided to violate was the norm of drinking a beverage from a regular
bottle. I wanted to choose this one because many people find it completely normal to see others
drinking from a regular bottle with a recognizable brand name on it, and I wanted to see how people
would react if I drank out of something more unconventional. In order to violate this norm, I bought a
Windex spray bottle, dumped out the contents, then made sure to clean it thoroughly. I then put blue
Powerade in the Windex container and went to Thompson to drink out of the spray bottle. I first rode

Yet despite being embarrassed in the beginning, I gradually became accustomed to it and got

were to keep going against conformity and continue to drink Powerade out of a Windex bottle with no
explanation in the future, then it is very possible that people would try to avoid me and I would be
rejected from social groups. In society, social norms are important because they help us figure out how
to behave appropriately in different social situations. If one does not follow social norms then it is
possible that others may reject that person and exclude them from their social groups. Conformity,
according to the textbook on page 511, is when ...[somebody] matches their behavior and appearance

  • 2. Frontiers Of Love Themes Second Theme Exam Discuss the central moral issue of two of the authors as expressed in their books. For my paper I chose to write about the books Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Frontiers of Love by Diana Chang. Although one book is a work of fiction and the other is a memoir the two books discuss central moral issues involving main characters in their use of theme. Ayaan in the book, Infidel discusses her life and religious upbringings. Her neglectful father and her abusive mother along with an arranged marriage. In the book, Frontiers of Love, Diana Chang discusses the racial issues in her culture. The book follows the lives of three different Eurasians who are working to find themselves in love amongst other things in this racist world. In the book Infidel, Ayaan marries her cousin and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is looked upon that in the memoir, Infidel, woman are treated as dirt and this ultimitely leads to her leaving the home she once knew. This inspiring true story sheds light on a issue that most including myself are blind sighted by. The story is upsetting, more so because it is facts, the issues in this book aren t make believe but a true story of a young woman and her journy for the freedom we take forgranted. In Frontiers of Love by Diana Chang, the novel although a work of fiction still has some insight on racism that didn t just occur years ago but still occurs in some countrys today. Each character in her book had their own racial issue to overcome even if it was against oneself. The enlightening story of three main characters brings to light a look upon what it was like for some mixed enthicities. Today, we still find racism in other ways, people are still today called names that are of different mixes . Each author although telling different stories made their main points completely clear throughout their book and each book had its own heartache to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing the Cultures of The Ik, The Pomo Indians, and The Nayar Society of Southern India The three cultures I have chosen to talk about in this essay are The Ik culture, The Pomo Indians and The Nayar Society of Southern India The Ik is a culture from Northern Uganda. The Pomo Indians is a culture from (find out more info) and lastly, The Nayar Society is a culture from Southern India. I will also be mentioning some things from my culture, which is the Yoruba culture. The Yoruba tribe is from Nigeria (West Nigeria) When it comes to family, The Ik culture believes that family is not important at all. As it says in the source The family does not feature heavily in the culture.... In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While one of husbands is visiting her, she would put weapons in front of her house, to notify the other husbands jus in case they decided to visit her at the time when one of her other husbands was there. Instead of relying on her husbands to protect her, provide her with food, money and things husbands would normally provide, the Nayar women relied on their brothers or sisters. Comparing these cultures to each other, you can see that they are very different. For one the Ik culture don t have concern for family at all while the Pomo Indians think life is all about family but the Nayar Society didn t seem to think of themselves as family but as associates to each other to carry the generation on. From looking at the positive views on family, I would say that the Pomo Indians are the most caring culture out of the three cultures, and while the Ik may seem like a horrible culture, I would say that the Nayar Society is the worst as it seems like a disorganised and uncaring culture. When it comes to my culture, we believe that family is very, very important. We believe that you need your family to be there to support you through the good and bad times and to help you and train you as you grow up. You also need your family to help with the progress of the family. In the olden days, it was believed that it was the job of the boy(s) and the father to go out to the ... • 4. Jurassic Era Research Paper The beginning of the Jurassic brought a new climate. The weather changed from arid, dry, and seasonal to humid, hot, and stable. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. New species are being discovered to this day from the Jurassic Period due to the immense diversity amongst them. The species diversity included three main dinosaur groups, the Sauropods, the Theropods, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main dinosaurs that died off were Sauropod dinosaurs, long necked, four legged dinosaurs, and stegosauridae, class holding Stegosaurus. Other species that died include ammonites, similar to the living animals called nautilus, many marine reptiles, and bivalves, relatable to modern mollusca. Not much is known about this extinction. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not yet look exactly the same. The continents will be further shaped by volcanic activity and tectonic plate activity. The shaping of the modern era was under way. Many other animals besides dinosaurs lived during the Cretaceous. These animals were very diverse and included pterosaurs, ancient flying reptiles, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Doctrine Of The Roman Catholic Church It has long been considered a taboo to question the actions or beliefs of leaders. However, when one blindly accepts these actions or beliefs, one creates an institution for immoral actions which become increasingly more complicated to overcome. Can authority be trusted, or should it be questioned? One can look back throughout history and literature to see a plethora of cases where the trust conferred onto authority was abused. During the fifteenth century, Galileo questioned the roman catholic church. Martin Luther also questioned the Catholic church in the sixteenth century, and in George Orwell s Animal Farm, the animals questioned their human masters. During the fifteenth century, the Catholic church was the authority on scientific knowledge. The Catholic church taught geocentrism, the belief that the sun revolves around the earth. Galileo, an Italian scientist at the time dared to challenge the Catholic church. He made a number of observations which proved that the geocentric model, a model taught and widely circulated by the church was wrong. His observations showed that the heliocentric model, a model proposed by Copernicus which states that the earth revolves around the sun, was correct. For standing up and questioning the church, Galileo was suspected of heresy and as such, he was sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life. Two of the short stories he wrote contain themes and motifs that specifically explain the plotline. The first story, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, sets its scene in the depths of a desolate area in Africa, where the main characters, Harry and his wife, decide to make their home. What does he think I am, a bloody plaster saint? Let him keep her where she belongs. It s his own fault (Hemingway 13). By the tone of Wilson thoughts, it is inferred that he is not able to find fault in himself and decides to blame it on the most vulnerable person, Francis. She appears to be a faithful and caring wife, but her actions do not justify this statement. • 16. Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers, however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country. When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge, something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). She presented her husband with the ship the Mora as a symbol of her approval of his conquest of England. Matilda, being well educated and capable, served as regent of Normandy while her husband was away in England. Matilda made the journey to England in 1068 where she was crowned Queen of England. Roughly one hundred charters bear Matilda s name, suggesting that she occasionally maintained full responsibility of Normandy in her husband s absence. Matilda became a wealthy landowner in England, where she held lands in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Gloucestershire. She maintained contact with her family in Flanders and even provided William with Flemish men for his army. She was also a key player in King William s rule of England, hearing land pleas and negotiating with nobles. Matilda played a lesser role in foreign politics than her husband. Its three dimensional structure was first determined by X ray crystallography by John Kendrew in 1957. Myoglobin is a typical globular protein in that it is a highly folded compact structure with most of the hydrophobic amino acid residues buried in the interior and many of the polar residues on the surface. X ray crystallography revealed that the single polypeptide chain of myoglobin consist of entirely of eight (labelled A H) alpha helical. One of these is to a histidine residue which lies eight residues along helix F of hemoglobin, the proximal hitidine (His F8). The sixth bond is to one of the oxygen atoms in a molecule of oxygen. Near to where the oxygen binds to the heme group is another histidine residue, the distal histidine (His E7). This serves two very important functions. First, preventing neightboring hemoglobin molecules coming into contact with one another and oxidizing to the Fe3+ state, cause no longer bind to oxygen. Sencond, lowering the affinity of the heme for CO by preventing carbon monoxide binding with the most favourable configuration to the Fe2+. This is important because the protein can no longer bind oxygen once CO has bound irreversibly to the heme,. Thus, although the oxygen binding site in hemoglobin and myglobin is only a small part of the whole protein, the polypeptide chain modulates the function of the heme prosthetic group. Hemoglobin can bind four molecules of oxygen due to its four heme groups, whereas myoglobin can only bind to one oxygen. The kinetics of oxygen binding of hemoglobin and myoglobin are quite different. Myoglogin exhibit a hyperbolic oxygen binding curve and hemoglobin exhibit a sigmoidial oxygen binding curve. The sigmodial curve suggest the the cooperative exist in the hemolglobing oxygen bind mechanism. The initial binding of an oxygen molecule to a hemoglobin subunit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And make it sound patriotic and civilized like everything is going the way it should. When in reality they are hiding the truth from the U.S citizens whether it is education, laws, or news from the media. The United States government continues to buy/adopt new government plans through media that we are not always fully aware of. John Maxwell Hamilton/ Kevin Kosar explain specific ways in which they are doing to control what we choose/pay for. We have a right to know which companies receive government contracts, how to collect insurance benefits and social security payments and what public school educational reform will look like. But too often, the government uses its information machinery to do more than simply inform us about a policy. Sometimes, it tries to persuade us to adopt a particular position, regardless of its efficacy. What Hamilton and Kosar are saying is that the government is very bias about media propaganda and persuading the people of the United States about plans/regulations that we barely understand or know about, into using our own money towards what they want. Rather than the other choices that they did not want us to know. This also relates to large news sources such as, Fox News and CNN, who tend to have a bias point of view with little background information as possible. • 26. Serial Killers And The United States Introduction Serial murder crime though rare, is not a a new phenomenon. This crime has been committed for centuries and will continue to be a crime that is committed throughout the world. It is unfortunate and scary that this is probably one of the most serious of crimes that cannot be prevented. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, serial murderers commit their crimes because they want to. Rehabilitation is not obtainable for serial killers due to their inability for remorse and empathy, or to see people as people and not objects(Knight 2006). This research paper will focus primarily on serial murder within the U.S. First and foremost, a legal definition provided by the U.S. Department of Justice will be presented to set forth the discussion of this research paper. As follows will be a detailed discussion explaining serial killer typologies with the use of examples of known serial killers in the U.S. Types of serial killers are: power oriented, mission oriented, visionary, and hedonistic, each typology will be clearly defined and explained. Some serial killers can have a mixture of each typology s characteristic. Serial killers that will be discussed and used as examples to represent the content of this research paper will be, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Robert Berdella, Jeffery Dahmer, and lastly the most prolific serial killer in American history, Gary Ridgeway. Problems with studying serial killing, are that because of rarity and access. Most of what we think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Developing The Skills For Treating Mental Health Of Others... Developing the skills to treat mental health of others is exponentially more difficult without the support from a strong training about a human s physical health. As one substrate binds to an enzyme a cog turns causing a chain reaction to the whole body, but the body is more than just a machine; it has a soul that encompasses emotions and thoughts. Immersed in my biochemistry textbook, I looked for the bridge between the text and my own body. My curiosity sky rocketed; my mind is set on expanding and applying my bank of knowledge. Not for a split second would I turn back, this pursuit embodies my desires. From these pages, I wish to translate this fuel to empower others; for them to go home from the clinic with security and the highest trust from me. I began my quest for building that bridge by walking towards the patient s room at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Dr. Morkis, a primary care physician. The worn out look of hopelessness was pasted on each patient s face, no one wanted to be there. The first patient, Ron, walked in gritting his teeth and his fists clenched. Once Morkis spoke to Ron, his utter rage shrunk to a mellow rest. My eyes dilated in disbelief as if I had just witnessed magic. Morkis formed a deep loving connection with speeds I had never seen. My mind was racing for answers͖ how did she do that? The informal approach in the conversations between Morkis and her patients showed a great deal of compassion and trust. He shared precious personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Effect Of Flicker Paradigm On Visual Perception Discussion The purpose of the study was to measure the effect that the Flicker Paradigm had on visual perception. The Flicker Paradigm causes a distraction while there is a change made in the image. It was designed to test how long the groups took to react to a change in the visual field. The test is meant to show that the disturbance in the visual field made it much more challenging for the viewer to notice any changes that were made in the image. The hypothesis stated that the experimental group, the group using the Flicker Paradigm, would take longer to notice the change in the visual field than the control group, which had no flicker between the altered images. This is because the disturbance in the visual field caused the brain to miss the change that was made to the image because the information was deemed as unimportant. The majority of the perceived changes occurred in the background of the scene, and were considered minor in reference to the whole scene. This was proven true from the data collected, and coincided with previous tests. (Rensink, R. A. 2000). The data in tables 1.1 and 1.3 shows the individual participant data for the test with a flicker for both tests one and two. Tables 1.2 and 1.4 represent the individual results for the tests with no flicker, or the control group. Graphs 1.1 and 1.2 showed the relationship between the time taken to recognize alterations in the images. The data was taken from the average time to recognize the change from all ... • 32. Experimental And Analytical Studies Have Increased... Introduction 1: Over the past quarter century, the number of both experimental and analytical studies have increased dramatically on the monotonic axial behavior of FRP confined concrete columns, and as a result, many uniaxial stress strain models have been generally developed; however, most of these studies have focused largely on FRP confined circular plain (unreinforced) concrete cylinders numerous authors tested (e.g., Mirmiran and Shahawy 1997;Mirmiran et al.1998; Xiao and Wu 2000; Lam and Teng 2002,2003;Berthet et al.2005;Almusallam 2007; Benzaid et al.2008;Eid and Paultre 2007,2008;Teng et al. 2009;Smith et al. 2010;Cui et al.2010). However, the number of studies on the axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined RC columns subjected to a cyclic axial compression loading has been going up slowly, particularly for noncircular RC columns. A better understanding of the latter and a sufficient summary of laboratory testing results can lead to the development of well informed and calibrated cyclic uniaxial stress strain model. In fact , Research is more limited on the cyclic axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined rectangular reinforced concrete columns of large scale, unlike several cited articles that previously explored the influence of the cyclic axial loading on the behavior of FRP confined unreinforced concrete specimens including cylinders and noncircular specimens of small size many researchers tested (e.g., Shao et al. 2006; Lam et al. 2006; Lam and Teng 2009; Abbasnia and Ziaadiny 2010; Abbasnia et al.2012a,b; Abbasnia and Holakoo 2012; Ozbakkaloglu and Akin 2012;Abbasnia et al. 2013; Bai et al. 2013; Harajli et al. 2015). At the present time Microsoft Excel spreadsheets are being used to store data on art, artists, and art locations. These spreadsheets are not always updated and accurately represented on all present workstations. The data needs to be gathered and documented before the new database can be created to insure that the new database will be accurate. Time is another constraint of the new database project. The database needs to be operational before the beginning of the next fiscal year and within the allotted budget of $20,000. The budget is allotted for labor only as all the hardware and software has already been obtained for the database. Database Objectives The objective of the database is to document what art, artists, and location of the art is contained within the museum. This will help museum project leaders know exactly what the museum has for art on hand, and to organize the inventory and prepare for future exhibits. To make people pay more for insurance over other people is discrimination to this world. There are thin people who have high risk behavior or have family histories that will cause them to develop medical problems. But because their BMI is normal their premiums are less. I don t know many adults. Especially women, who have a BMI in the normal range. It is not an accurate indicator of good health. • 35. Success Is No Illusion Greater Than Fear Essay There is no illusion greater than fear. Lao Tzu. Most successful men and women entrepreneurs do not let fear hold them back from achieving what they want. They know that success is not just about having a dream but by overcoming the fear of failure and taking action on that dream or else it will always remain a dream and never a reality. Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks and former owner of the Seattle Supersonics, probably realized this at an early age. Howard Schultz was born on July 19, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York and grew up not having much as a child, living in the Brooklyn projects with his parents and two other siblings. He later went to Northern Michigan University on a football scholarship but decided not to play and instead pursued an academic degree. In 1975, Howard Schultz graduated with a BA in Communications and immediately went to work for Xerox Corp. in the sales and marketing division, which eventually led him to Starbucks (Howard). The original Starbucks was founded in 1971, in Seattle s historic Pike Place Market, by three owners Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker; who later on hired Howard Schultz to be their director of sales in 1982 (Sun). During Schultz s trip to Italy, he saw the importance of how coffee played a role in the social life of most Italians. I wanted to choose this one because many people find it completely normal to see others drinking from a regular bottle with a recognizable brand name on it, and I wanted to see how people would react if I drank out of something more unconventional. In order to violate this norm, I bought a Windex spray bottle, dumped out the contents, then made sure to clean it thoroughly.
