How Did Roman Music Influence Ancient Greek Culture
When a person hears Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome he probably envisions great military battles or
grand columns that adorn every structure. However, music, while not as equally honored as the
Colosseum, still deserves recognition for playing an integral part in citizens lives during ancient times.
While knowledge of ancient Greek and Roman music is limited to fragments of old music scores from
the era, literary references, and the actual remains of musical instruments, society will still benefit
from studying these rich ancient cultures. Obviously, music from both these civilizations are
extremely similar to each other in the role it plays in society and the instruments used due to the
influence of ancient Greece on Rome.
In both cultures, music played a large role in society. In Ancient Greece, music was essential to ...

This high regard for music in life stemmed from Greek mythology itself. For example, Amphion
learned music from the Greek god Hermes and then with a golden lyre, he built Thebes by moving
stones into place with the sound of his playing. There also many references to indicate that music
played an important role in the Greek perception of how their race had come into existence and how
their destinies were controlled by the Gods. Other artistic forms, such as literature, praise music as
well: most of the known Greek poetry and dramas today were sung or accompanied by music in
ancient times. Professional musicians were well respected and people who achieved small
accomplishments in music were regarded as cultural and tasteful.

Ventricular Septal Defect Research Paper
VENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECT
Overview
A ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a heart defect present at birth in which the heart has a hole in the
wall (septum) between the two lower chambers (the ventricles). The septum develops parts of muscles
and other parts of the membrane. If the septal wall did not develop properly, the child may be born
with an atrial defect or ventricular septal defect. This means that there is a gap in the septum. This is
sometimes called a hole in the heart. . There may be one or more hole. The size and location of the
hole can also vary.
Causes
The causes of ventricular septal defect, similar to other congenital heart diseases are multifactorial in
origin, and they operate during the period of cardiac morphogenesis; they may only engage the heart,
or even other organs and apparatus. The causal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it does not and the child reaches two years of age, it will be very unlikely that the holes in the heart
closing off alone. Most of the small holes do not require any treatment. Drugs can be used to help with
the symptoms that can occur if the hole is bigger. These may include medication to relieve pressure on
the heart and lungs and also to help the heart pump blood properly. The surgery can be used to close
the hole. There are two types of surgery available: Technical Intra cardiac and trans catheter technique.
The surgical technique that is chosen is dictated by the nature of the side effects associated with the
patient s heart and lungs.
The intra cardiac technique is the most common and is carried out while the patient is under
cardiopulmonary bypass and is an open heart surgery. This is the procedure of choice for the majority
of children and performed by most pediatric surgery centers. The trans catheter approach is normally
more complex and should only be considered in selected patients at pediatric centers that have
expertise in this procedure.

Amazon s Product And Service
Amazon is using different operating models to provide products and service to customers. There are
three distinct models that Amazon.com offers, each with a different supply chain. The three models
are Amazon.com as seller, Amazon.com as intermediary, and Amazon.com as full service e commerce
provider.
Amazon as Seller
The basic Amazon sales channel is the web store front end which serves as their core business.
Customers go to the Amazon.com website, browse products, and place orders. Amazon is responsible
for all front end customer relationships and back end logistics in this model. Once an order is placed,
Amazon decides which internal distribution center or drop shipper should be responsible for shipping
the order to the customers. After that, Amazon will responsible for coordinating the fulfillment of the
order. When products are sourced from its internal distribution centers, then Amazon start to picks,
packs, and ships the order. When products are sourced from a drop shipper, such like a book
distributor, the distributor packages the products by using the Amazon box delivers it to the customer
(Maltz et al., 2004). This model requires Amazon to maintain or purchase inventory for immediate
selling. In this model, Amazon owns the customer relationship, provides the technology, owns or
purchases the inventory, and executes the logistics as well.
Besides that, another part of Amazon as a seller model includes the Syndicated Stores program, which
allows third party

Metaphors And Symbolism In Death Of A Salesman
ABSTRACT
Miller has been one of the most outspoken American writers of the last four decades. He has held
generally progressive and radical views and has variously written against racism, capitalism and
Vietnam war. All these ideas are amply reflected in his plays. Death of a Salesman was Miller s play
and an instant success. It was hailed as a modern classic and has put Miller among the foremost
playwrights of this century. Death of a Salesman Miller is still concerned with the exploitations of the
individual and the evils of a commercial society. The protagonist Willy Loman ,was a traveling
salesman, and his family were the main characters in this play. The usage of Language, verbalism,
Symbolism were extraordinary and unique from other styles of Drama.

He has ambition and expectations beyond his reach. This aspect is revealed by a contradiction in his
name low man and his dream of high man . In his own vision and dreams, his sons to him are only
boys , kids , little children with nollypops needing his advice and care. He fails to regard them as
grown up adults. Death of a Salesman, on a close examination, will be found a play with logical and
linguistic contradictions. But such contradictions are deliberate and are used to sharpen the effect.
Willy Loman suggests his moral immaturity through logical as well as linguistic contradictions,
especially when offering advice to Biff. He warns his sons: gee is a boy s word , and he uses this term
frequently. He complains: not finding yourself at the age of thirth four is a disgrace! , and greatest
thing in the world for him was to bum around, and that Biff is a lazy bum. And after some he

Money Can Be Seen As A Root Of Evil
Money can presumably be seen as a root of evil. Greed can consume a human s moral to the point of
pure corruption. Thomas Jefferson remains an icon in American history, despite the travesties he
attributed to involving slavery. Jefferson once preached equality until he got a taste of the lavish life.
Upon the inheritance of slaves, Jefferson receives a first hand experience of the luxury of being a slave
owner. Jefferson utilizes slaves to achieve economic success without regard to the suffering
accompanied with the gruesome work. With his multitude of slaves Jefferson gains riches through
agriculture and industry, but his excessive spending to acquire a lavish life drain him economically.
Jefferson s plantation, Monticello, is famous for not only the beautiful landscape and architecture, but
his plantation crops run by slaves. Crops were a large portion of profits at Monticello. The main crops
are tobacco and grains because of the high price of tobacco and the necessity of grains. Monticello
also grew hemp and cotton both for sale and to produce clothing in the textile shop. Grains required
less labor but greater organization, and skill was essential for their success. Jefferson had 105 slaves to
ensure the wheat crops success. Jefferson faces a decline in tobacco crops because the crop itself is
extremely damaging to the soil. When the tobacco crops caused too much damage he focuses solely
on grains. Jefferson often bought seed for cotton and left the slaves to

Female Genital Cutting Controversy
Female genital cutting (FGC) has always been a topic of controversy. In the Western world this
practice is seen as a cruel and inhumane act that takes away women right and the ability to make their
own choices. However, what is seen as deviant practice in the West, it is in fact a distinct and
important part of many cultures. For societies where female genital cutting is practiced, women find
themselves pressured to comply with these norms as it gives them a sense of acceptance into a society
as well as becoming marriageable. In Western society, even thou most people are against ritualized
female genital cutting, it does not appear to be abnormal to practice surrounding female genital

In the modern world people rely on organizations and systems for prosperity, insurance, etc. In most
of African societies like the Hofriyat, kinship still plays a major role in being social security, health
care and so on relying on the relationship with relatives and friends. Marriage became perceived as an
important factor since it forms the basic source of personal identity and economic advantages (Boddy
2007, p.61). Collective interest between individuals is pursued through marriages arranged by the
parents while subordinating the sexuality of young women and men to comply with the interest of the
social group according to the elders (Boddy 2007, 62). In Hofriyat society, sexual absence is a matter
of family honors. Failure to comply with this norm can lead to the family losing honor and the risk of
jeopardizing the chances of getting married, which will affect its economic statues, political leverage
and continuity of family line (Boddy 2007, 62). Looking at this aspect it is not surprising that honor is
mostly assigned in relations to young women. Men are also restricted to some behaviors, however
women lives are more cautiously patrolled (Boddy 2007, 62). This does not mean that women are
powerless, as an act of force is too considerate shameful, subordinates must desire to act properly.

Allyson Wells Social Media In the world today, the development of technology is constantly changing
and society is becoming more dependent on the Internet and social media. With a growing number of
people using the Internet and social media the advantages and disadvantages become more prevalent.
It is important for society to distinguish between the two in order to effectively and safely use the
Internet and social media.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information? The Internet is full of
endless information that is easily available at our fingertips. There are advantages and disadvantages
to having access to such easily obtainable information. One advantage would be the ability to acquire
more knowledge by having access to information outside of a classroom or seminar. Gaining this
information can help with school or work projects if you are able to find helpful information. It is also
a quick and convenient method of gathering data. An example of how it might help an everyday
citizen would be if a person were thinking of moving to a new city or area, they could check the crime
rates and frequency and look to see if any sex offenders are in the area. This is a good way to keep
your family safe by using the easily obtainable information on the Internet. Some disadvantages of
easily obtainable information is it may not be credible. Just because information is on the Internet,

My School For High School
Years have passed and now I have reached Junior High School. I should be happy because of my
smartness ; I was chosen to go to a special school for student enrichment. However, I am not happy
because the school my mother selected for me is far away from the neighbor, and the school district
where I lived had just built a brand new school within walking distance from my home; most of my
friends are attending there, and I could not understand why my mother chose to send me across town.
However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I had to travel either by city bus
or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was at least 10 15 miles. My mother had
this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment; somehow this was supposed to be good for
me. It didn t make sense, nor did I care to share her enthusiasm of starting over in a new learning
environment. I was thrust out my comfort zone and probably would not have protested as much if the
change wasn t so drastic. It ll become clearer what I mean by this. The first day of school was filled
with the normal awkwardness; however, it was also permeated with amplified anxiety as I realize this
school was not in a great neighborhood. Some would call this the hood. I thought I was attending a
school for smart people. Now I am getting the meaning of some of my early teachings that there are
two types of smart; street smart and book smart. I am realizing that these two types of people

Age Of Enlightenment In Frankenstein
Frankenstein In the gothic novel of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley published in 1818, a story of a man
s willful scientific creation of a monster comes to life. As the Age of Enlightenment has subsided and
the result of the French Revolution is attempted to be forgotten, Shelley reveals the struggles of the
social and cultural aspects belonging to society during this time. Two main concepts reflected upon in
this novel include the struggle against societal control and the ideas of Enlightenment. In this critical
analysis, you will be introduced to the connection between Frankenstein and the era s issue of societal
control as the movement away from Enlightenment progresses. Well, what is the Age of
Enlightenment? The Age of Enlightenment was seen as the age of intellectual movement. It took place
over approximately 150 years in Europe, ending with the French Revolution just twenty nine years or
so before Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. The period guided reason as a means of instituting ethics,
aesthetics, government, and religion or anti religion. Thinkers of this era believed its ideas would lead
humankind out of the suffering brought on by religion and religious wars. Thus, a decline of the
church and incline of scientific thought and reason was characteristic of The Enlightenment. Though
liberalism and democracy were positive components outlined by Enlightenment, racism, fascism, and
communism were some of the many consequences that led human kind to somewhat

Similar to how the great painter Pablo Picasso paints a picture using colors on a canvas, an author
paints an image in the reader s mind through the style that they can write. The way an author chooses
to write their novel can help the reader understand the author s personality, beliefs, and general
lifestyle. Every author who has ever written anything from a letter to a friend to a novel has their own
personal writing style unique to their author that can be observed through their works. Maya Angelou
s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried are no exception to
this rule, and each show the similarities and differences in the author s personality.
There are many similarities between the style of writing in Maya Angelou s I Know Why the Caged
Bird Sings and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. For example, in Maya Angelou s I Know
Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou wrote The truth of the statement was like a wadded up
handkerchief, sopping wet in my fists, and the sooner they accepted it the quicker I could let my hands
open and the air would cool my poem (1). This incredibly detailed quote shows how incredibly
detailed Maya Angelou writes in her works and how well she applies imagery in her writing. Similar
in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien writes And in the end, of course, a true war
story is never about war. It s about sunlight. It s about the special way that dawn spreads out on a river

Inferences In The Songs Of Distant Earth
In the novel, The Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C. Clarke, there are many details that predictions
and inferences can be derived from. One inferences that can be made is that the character Moses
Kaldor greatly misses his wife after he left her to depart from Earth. This can be shown through his
emotions and words when talking to the character Mirissa. Clarke writes, Yet we never really believed
that End would be in our time who could! And if anyone had ever told me that I should leave Earth
and everything I ve loved... A spasm of emotion crossed his face, and Mirissa waited in sympathetic

Victimless Crime Victimless crime is defined as an illegal act that is felt to have no direct or

Libertarianism says the government is set up to offer protection for each of us against the initiation of

Drugs are related to crime through the effects they have on the user s behavior and by generating
violence and other illegal activity in connection with drug trafficking. Drug related offenses and drug
using lifestyles are major contributors to the crime problem in the United States. The U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services (HHS) conducts an annual National Household Survey on Drug Abuse
(NHSDA) that asks individuals living in households about their drug and alcohol use and their
involvement in crimes. Provisional data for 1997 show that respondents arrested in the past year for
possession or sale of drugs had the highest percentage of illicit drug use in the past year. Past year
illicit drug users were also about 16 times more likely than nonusers to report being arrested and

Voltaire On Racial Differences
In terms of racial difference, the approach that history takes of classifying races as less superior to one
another through the authority of science and medicine was justified by theories and ideas created by
many Enlightenment philosophers, Darwinism and eugenics, and Bell Curve results. This idea of
subordinate races cultivated and was overturned in between nineteenth and twenty first century which
led us to great advances in refining what we know now as racial difference . Racial differences date
back to the early 1800 s when philosophers questioned ideas and obtained the courage to express their
beliefs while opposing the norm. Among many philosophers engaged in this classifying of the races it

J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. This book s purpose was to highlight the statistical differences
between races in terms of intelligence quota. A bell curve is essentially a method of organizing data,
usually grades because of the numerical values, the actual curve is a visual representation of the data

in ends as the extremes.
In the case of The Bell Curve, a study was conducted where IQ tests were administered to African
Americans and white Americans and the results were plotted on the same graph. The results yielded
that African Americans frequently score one full standard deviation below those of white Americans.
Following the release of The Bell Curve several people around the world gave their public response,
many were simply stunned by these results as it was the first type of research to be conducted in a
racially specific way. This sparked an uproar in the scientific community which led black scientists to
administer the test that were race sensitive and still the same results

Westus IV Ephanes Contributions
In 175 BC, Antiochus IV Epiphanes became King of the Seleucids and nominated Jason, brother of
Onias III, who he would replace, as the puppet High Priest in Jerusalem. After some conflict and
deaths in the dispute between Jason, Menelaus, and Onias, Jason remained the High Priest, while his
brother, Onias was killed. Antiochus then began attempt to Hellenize the Jews and pillaged their
temples. He banned several Jewish practices, such as circumcision, sacrifice, feats, and the Sabbath.
Additionally, he even executed those preforming traditional circumcisions. This was elevated by the

Transportation In The Jetson
Meet George Jetson! Those were the first few words heard on analog televisions across the globe
when viewers watched one of the first shows in color (O Reilly). Fittingly, The Jetsons was a futuristic
TV sitcom that ran from 1962 1963 and was rebooted in 1985 1987. The setting resided in a utopian
world, where cities floated in mid air and flying cars were the mode of transportation. Moving
sidewalks helped individuals move around the house, jobs contained the labor of pushing a button for
three hours a week, and jetpacks eased the hassle of personal travel. Even though the lifestyle of the
Jetson family seems to be unattainable with today s technology, the similarities of today and Orbit

Surprisingly, many devices depicted in The Jetsons actually have real life counterparts. Roombas
(vacuuming robots with commercial success), smartwatches, and even dog treadmills were all created
after the series displayed them. Arguably the prediction that was fulfilled the quickest after the series
aired was the tanning bed (Moira). Back in the 1920s and 1930s, lights that produced artificial suntans
were in existence; however, the lights were not produced in a way to attract the average consumer.
Fast forward to an episode of The Jetsons, where Cosmo Spacely (George s boss) is found resting on a
bed under a lampshade. The settings of light intensity are Miami, Honolulu, and Riviera ( 10 Out Of
This World Facts About The Jetsons ). This was the closest product to a personal tanning bed in the
1960s. Fast forward again to 1978, where Friedrich Wolff, a man who favored tan skin, had a

Social Environment Accounting
Accounting Forum 28 (2004) 1 5 Introduction Social and environmental accounting: trends and
thoughts for the future Over the years Accounting Forum has explored different possible directions for
the field of social and environmental accounting. With a new publisher Elsevier it is our hope that we
shall reach new markets and opportunities. In recent issues, these explorations have been extended to
theorising the role of accounting in transnational global processes, and to the channels of global
information and the interpretation of that information. In particular, contributions have attempted to
explore the notion that accounting discourse is a medium through which relationships between
business and society can be created, nurtured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cross sectional analysis indicates that the share price response is mainly a function of the relative
fine imposed on the firm; other explanatory variables such as environmental performance news or
sector membership were unsuccessful in explaining variations in the market responses they observed.
Equally, Accounting Forum has been interested in the interdependencies between social and
environmental accounting which extend to the nexus between accounting and information to
employees and other relevant parties. In this issue of Accounting Forum, R. G. Day presents evidence
concerning the evolution of reporting about employees in the last century and its relationship with
mandatory disclosure rules (Day, 2004). This is an interesting phenomenon, given that the current
conceptual framework for corporate environmental reporting has only recently begun to analyse the
relationship between voluntary and regulated disclosure. For example, accounting research is only just
beginning to examine the relationships between the role that International Standards such as ISO
14001 have had on the reporting function. In Day s article, however, he focuses on evidence from the
UK and finds that there is an apparent disregard for statutory disclosures. Implicit in much of the
Corporate Environmental and Social Reporting (CE SR) literature is the supposition

Pune, India rajesh.shekokar@sinhgad.edu Abstract Road accidents cause a severe threat to human
lives from both an injury as well as a financial perspective. Given that vehicles are designed to
provide a smooth means of transportation, manufacturers have long been in the process of designing
the vehicles that are based on principles of efficiency, reliability and safety. However, due to reasons
such as human error, circumstantial error, poor vision and negligence, accidents occur. Today, special
attention is focused on the technologies that can reduce traffic collisions. Hence, Vehicle to Vehicle
(V2V) technology is proposed which are simple to implement. The main objective of this paper is to
alert the driver when he closes to the front vehicle by using camera and ultrasonic sensor and to
communicate mutually for information exchange by using Xbee.

Rhetorical Strategies In The Antiwar Protest
The Antiwar Protest of the late 1950s and early 1960s was a successful protest movement that utilized
effective protest politics as defined by Zoe Trodd in her book, American Protest Literature. The
effectiveness of the protest was due to the movement causing the American public to challenge their
belief in the nation s leaders capacity to provide unquestionable truths and due to the protest placing a
colossal amount of powerful pressure on the nation s leaders.(Zimmerman) Many historians believe
the success of the protest led to a change in policy and a change in the American public s view of
politicians.(Zimmerman)
The Antiwar Protest began in the late 1950s and early 1960s.(Zimmerman) The protest effort was
centered around two groups: peace groups formed by left wing activists that opposed the Cold War
and America s interference in other countries and a group of students that felt the government was
high handed and unjust, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). (Zimmerman) These groups had a
mission to educate the public about Vietnam and convert large amounts of Americans around to their
antiwar agenda.(Zimmerman) Early on, the groups formulated a plan to bring about the change they
sought by using the press, literature, music, and the public domain.(Zimmerman) The Antiwar Protest
used three rhetorical strategies: empathy, shock value, and symbolic actions.(Trodd) Of the three
strategies, the movement relied most heavily on shock value. Bill Zimmerman, an

Demographic Transformation Model And The Demographic...
The Demographic Transition Model is a simplification for the conventional process of shifts in
population growth in our world s countries. The Demographic Transition Model, also known as DTM,
is derived from Great Britain s model of their demographic cycle between the 1750s and the 1900s. It
consists of five different stages, with the phases being low growth, increasing growth, population
explosion, decreasing growth, and declining population. These phases are defined by a triple line
graph of the crude birth rate, crude death rate, and the total population per one thousand people. The
DTM applies to almost every country, but the different stages of the model the countries fit in varies.
There are no countries remaining in Stage 1 anymore. Though, some are making it into Stage 5, and
the addition of a Stage 6 is being considered. The purpose of this report is to analyze five varying
countries populations from over the years and compare their process to the Demographic Transition
Model. By comparing each country with the model and using their population pyramid graphs, the
goal is to discover how precisely and where the countries fit.
The focus of the procedure of this report is population pyramids. A population pyramid is a graph that
illustrates the composition of that population by age and gender. It can provide insight on the political
and social aspects of a society, as well as their economy. On the left side, typically, the population is
displayed in horizontal

The Parents Role in School Shootings Essay
When children commit a horrible act such as a school shooting their parents often look for someone or
something to blame rather than looking at what role they, as parents, may have had in the tragedy. The
often targeted entertainers, video game developers, teachers, drug companies, and writers are rarely, if
ever, responsible for such tragic outcomes and, unfortunately, often become victims as a result of
lawsuits filed in an attempt to place blame on them. The parents of dangerous children must be
scrutinized and sued alongside every other entity being blamed for the heinous crimes that children
commit.

Before the 1999 Columbine tragedy, there was the 14 year old boy in Paducah, Kentucky who, in
1997, went on a shooting spree at his local school. Parents of 3 of the shooting victims filed lawsuits
against 25 media companies seeking $130 million in damages, citing that the shooter, Michael
Carneal, learned how to shoot a gun by playing video and computer games. The lawsuits further
implied that violent movies and internet pornography were to blame for the boy s behavior
(Holmstrom, par. 6).
In both the Columbine and the Paducah, Kentucky cases the parents of the shooters were sued on the
grounds that they should have known, and prevented, the tragedies from occurring. According to an
article written by Mark Walsh regarding the Paducah shooting, a state law negligence suit named 45
defendants, including McCracken County...teachers...who allegedly failed to interpret warning signals

Michael Carneal would go on a murderous rampage (Walsh, par. 4). The case against the employees of
the McCracken County School District was dismissed by Judge William Shadoan, citing, We cannot
expect those teachers and administrators to be psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, or physicians

The Importance Of Communication
The famous physicist Albert Einstein said: The greatest danger in modern technology is not that
machines begin to think but that people will begin to think like machines. It is true that technology has
become more and more popular, not only in people s daily lives, but it influenced the development of
counties. The technology used for communication have changed the dynamics of human interaction,
and it also has affected the contact with each other in various ways. Has this been a positive or
negative development? Even though some people hold the view that too many technological
advancements in communication cause people more isolation, there is no doubt that technology has
improved contact with others in different ways, such as it widens the scope of knowledge and promote
human relationship, the quality of communication and it is beneficial for time saving as well.
According to Li xin and Li Chiou, web technologies have built up e commerce, information sharing,
business management and delivering services in the past 20 years (Tao, Chen, 2012, p.9 16). Which
supports my idea that technology is improving people s communication and business activities. Some
people indicate that too many technological interactions between people will cause social isolation;
however, technology increases people s scope of knowledge and promotes the relationship between
others. Firstly, electronic communication, like cell phones, networking websites and email have made
communication faster

Literary Analysis Of The Rocking Horse Winner
The Rocking Horse Winner is a short story written by D.H. Lawrence. The story revolves around Paul,
a little boy, who gets involved in gambling in order to improve the financial conditions of his family
and prove his luck to his mother. At the first glance, from the title, I assumed that it would be an
upbeat tale about a little kid who surmounts his little obstacles. However, it turns out to be completely
different. Starting off as a gloomy tale, it turns even darker towards the end. It begins with description
of a mother who is fed up of her life and husband. She has a never ending greed for money and does
not live her children. Paul, on of her children is determined to find a way to end the financial problems
and prove his luck to his mother in order to win her love. His endeavor, however, ends in defeat as he
fails to get his mother s affection. Upon reading it for the first time, I was startled. This story was like
a rollercoaster, I experienced several emotions throughout it. From disgust to hopefulness back to
disgust again. It had a gloomy tone in the beginning, She married for love, and the love turned to dust.
She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them
(Lawrence 1), I developed a strong dislike for the mother and a soft corner for the children. What kind
of mother has a hard time loving her children, that was the first thing that came to my mind.
Furthermore , the phrase, There must be more money, there

Algonquin Blackrobe Essay
Assad Jamil October 20, 2014 Essay #2 Blackrobe The Algonquin (Indians) and the French people are
first shown in an area of Quebec in the 17th century. Both groups seem to be similar in that they both
have a leader and dress similarly. However, looks can be deceiving as they have many cultural
differences and various beliefs. These differences create misunderstandings, and lead the French to
believe the Algonquin to be a group of savages. The Algonquin also believe the French to not be very
intelligent. However, a mission to Huron territory changes both the Algonquin and French, and causes
them to better understand each other, creating tolerance, and eventually cultural rapprochement. The
French people believe that converting the Algonquin is absolutely critical, and that the Algonquin need
not understand the French religion (Blackrobe). In addition, the French believe the Algonquin are not
very intelligent and this is shown by the fact that they trade them axes, pots, and flints rather than
muskets (Blackrobe). The French almost treat the Algonquin as children when they take them to see
the clock. Also, Father Laforge, who is the priest with the mission to convert the Hurons, is of the
opinion that the Algonquin do not live for the future, but only for the present time. The Algonquin feel

Legal Relations Of The Copyright Act
Glynn claims that he is joint owner of the copyright to RUST under the Copyright Act and seeks a
declaratory judgment under the Declaratory Judgment Act. Facepunch argues that Glynn has pled that
claim with insufficient particularity. Facepunch also argues that the first contract between Facepunch
and Glynn shows that Facepunch did not intend for Glynn to have any ownership interest in RUST.
Under the Declaratory Judgment Act, the court may declare the rights and other legal relations of any
interested party seeking such declaration. Federal district courts are well situated to hear disputes

Where parties have meaningfully collaborated on a work, it is hard to imagine that such work is
unaccompanied by the requisite intent. Facepunch argues that it never intended to enter into joint
ownership with Glynn. Both sides agree, however, that Glynn was an independent contractor for
Facepunch and never signed any documents altering his copyright interest in any game he produced.
Moreover, Glynn alleges that he wrote roughly 75% of RUST s code, making him the dominant
author. Glynn s complaint sufficiently alleges that he performed a substantial amount of work on
RUST and worked closely with other collaborators at Facepunch to create a finished product. Glynn s
contract with Facepunch establishes his monthly stipend, but does not affect his rights as an
independent contractor to joint authorship in his work and derivative works. The court will not dismiss
Glynn s claim for declaratory judgment. Glynn argues that Facepunch interfered with his contract or
economic advantage by abandoning RUST and replacing it with Facepunch s failed experimental
game. Glynn s allegations for tortious interference relate to entirely to RUST and have nothing to do
with the contract between Facepunch and Glynn. As a result, dismissal of Glynn s interference claim

heart for missions. Graham reached out to Pierce and began to desire to hear all of his mission stories.
Pierce shared his experience with Graham and became like a mentor to him. Graham was inspired,
and in 1975, Pierce and Graham went on a tour to see the world s neediest places ( About Us ). It was

A Social Stigma View Traditional Marriage
Ad Analysis
We as a social stigma view traditional marriage proposals between a man and a woman normal,
standard, and unique. Within a traditional wedding after the man has proposed to the woman normally
the woman gets ready for her special day, she puts on makeup, does her hair, and is nervous. The
woman wears a beautiful gown of her choice and her makeup is flawless her hair must be gorgeous.
The groom is excited to see his future to be wife. He has shaved, showered, and dresses accordingly to
the special occasion. The couples wait patiently for the reception to have a big or small gathering.
Normally the soon to be bride is anxious and wants everything perfect by everything I mean

The traditional values expect the man to propose to the woman and family has gatherings. Later they
get together and discuss future arrangements. Family is mostly involved in the wedding decisions and
celebrations. Now times have changed 2017, and we have females asking males for engagement,
which is partially normal. Mostly all the work is done by the female, invitations, deciding on ring
styles, dress styles, even on how they want the groom to show up and be dressed. In the advertisement
the female proposes to her partner where she has a smile on her face. Somehow, that smile portraits
into laughter. It shows that the woman is laughing in comfort or she is laughing out of nervousness.
The Ad did not leave the traditional colors of the wedding behind; there are whites, blacks, soft blues,
flowers, arrangements and a peculiar setting. Whenever someone talks about engagement settings
normally what comes to mind is outdoors in a nature environment for example; the woods, cabins,
parks, hotels, amusement parks, you name it but on top of the building is not really talked about. Is
that some type of retaliation or form of expression? Maybe the couple chose something closed
intimate for themselves not so much drama like I said times have changed. The decorations, one sees
decent champagne glasses not something cheap or bulged. Many couples decide on cute center pieces
for the tables like candles, flowers, or cute little ornaments. This couple

Upon the inheritance of slaves, Jefferson receives a first hand experience of the luxury of being a slave owner. Jefferson utilizes slaves to achieve economic success without regard to the suffering accompanied with the gruesome work. With his multitude of slaves Jefferson gains riches through agriculture and industry, but his excessive spending to acquire a lavish life drain him economically. Jefferson s plantation, Monticello, is famous for not only the beautiful landscape and architecture, but his plantation crops run by slaves. Crops were a large portion of profits at Monticello. Marriage became perceived as an important factor since it forms the basic source of personal identity and economic advantages (Boddy 2007, p.61). Collective interest between individuals is pursued through marriages arranged by the parents while subordinating the sexuality of young women and men to comply with the interest of the social group according to the elders (Boddy 2007, 62). In Hofriyat society, sexual absence is a matter of family honors. Failure to comply with this norm can lead to the family losing honor and the risk of jeopardizing the chances of getting married, which will affect its economic statues, political leverage and continuity of family line (Boddy 2007, 62). Looking at this aspect it is not surprising that honor is mostly assigned in relations to young women. • 12. My School For High School Years have passed and now I have reached Junior High School. I should be happy because of my smartness ; I was chosen to go to a special school for student enrichment. However, I am not happy because the school my mother selected for me is far away from the neighbor, and the school district where I lived had just built a brand new school within walking distance from my home; most of my friends are attending there, and I could not understand why my mother chose to send me across town. However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I had to travel either by city bus or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was at least 10 15 miles. My mother had this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment; somehow this was supposed to be good for me. It didn t make sense, nor did I care to share her enthusiasm of starting over in a new learning environment. I was thrust out my comfort zone and probably would not have protested as much if the change wasn t so drastic. It ll become clearer what I mean by this. The first day of school was filled with the normal awkwardness; however, it was also permeated with amplified anxiety as I realize this school was not in a great neighborhood. Some would call this the hood. I thought I was attending a school for smart people. • 14. Age Of Enlightenment In Frankenstein Frankenstein In the gothic novel of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley published in 1818, a story of a man s willful scientific creation of a monster comes to life. As the Age of Enlightenment has subsided and the result of the French Revolution is attempted to be forgotten, Shelley reveals the struggles of the social and cultural aspects belonging to society during this time. Two main concepts reflected upon in this novel include the struggle against societal control and the ideas of Enlightenment. In this critical analysis, you will be introduced to the connection between Frankenstein and the era s issue of societal control as the movement away from Enlightenment progresses. Well, what is the Age of Enlightenment? The Age of Enlightenment was seen as the age of intellectual movement. It took place over approximately 150 years in Europe, ending with the French Revolution just twenty nine years or so before Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. The period guided reason as a means of instituting ethics, aesthetics, government, and religion or anti religion. Thinkers of this era believed its ideas would lead humankind out of the suffering brought on by religion and religious wars. Thus, a decline of the church and incline of scientific thought and reason was characteristic of The Enlightenment. Though liberalism and democracy were positive components outlined by Enlightenment, racism, fascism, and communism were some of the many consequences that led human kind to somewhat ... Similar to how the great painter Pablo Picasso paints a picture using colors on a canvas, an author paints an image in the reader s mind through the style that they can write. The way an author chooses to write their novel can help the reader understand the author s personality, beliefs, and general lifestyle. Every author who has ever written anything from a letter to a friend to a novel has their own personal writing style unique to their author that can be observed through their works. Maya Angelou s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried are no exception to this rule, and each show the similarities and differences in the author s personality. There are many similarities between the style of writing in Maya Angelou s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. Rhetorical Strategies In The Antiwar Protest The Antiwar Protest of the late 1950s and early 1960s was a successful protest movement that utilized effective protest politics as defined by Zoe Trodd in her book, American Protest Literature. The effectiveness of the protest was due to the movement causing the American public to challenge their belief in the nation s leaders capacity to provide unquestionable truths and due to the protest placing a colossal amount of powerful pressure on the nation s leaders.(Zimmerman) Many historians believe the success of the protest led to a change in policy and a change in the American public s view of politicians.(Zimmerman) The Antiwar Protest began in the late 1950s and early 1960s.(Zimmerman) The protest effort was centered around two groups: peace groups formed by left wing activists that opposed the Cold War and America s interference in other countries and a group of students that felt the government was high handed and unjust, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). (Zimmerman) These groups had a mission to educate the public about Vietnam and convert large amounts of Americans around to their antiwar agenda.(Zimmerman) Early on, the groups formulated a plan to bring about the change they sought by using the press, literature, music, and the public domain.(Zimmerman) The Antiwar Protest used three rhetorical strategies: empathy, shock value, and symbolic actions.(Trodd) Of the three strategies, the movement relied most heavily on shock value. The Demographic Transition Model is a simplification for the conventional process of shifts in population growth in our world s countries. The Demographic Transition Model, also known as DTM, is derived from Great Britain s model of their demographic cycle between the 1750s and the 1900s. It consists of five different stages, with the phases being low growth, increasing growth, population explosion, decreasing growth, and declining population. These phases are defined by a triple line graph of the crude birth rate, crude death rate, and the total population per one thousand people. The DTM applies to almost every country, but the different stages of the model the countries fit in varies. There are no countries remaining in Stage 1 anymore. Though, some are making it into Stage 5, and the addition of a Stage 6 is being considered. The purpose of this report is to analyze five varying countries populations from over the years and compare their process to the Demographic Transition Model. By comparing each country with the model and using their population pyramid graphs, the goal is to discover how precisely and where the countries fit. The focus of the procedure of this report is population pyramids. A population pyramid is a graph that illustrates the composition of that population by age and gender.
