The Wife - Actress
• The actor I have cast to play this role is Georgia DeBranco Chessum – a
friend and previous student at Sandy Upper School who also studied Media
at A-level. As an individual she was very suitable to cast; she lives a few
streets down from myself so it is easy to meet her for things such as filming,
interviews etc. Based on the fact she studied the same course last year, she
has a lot of knowledge around Media and has completed a similar project to
mine, therefore she would be able to help with any struggles I was having
and input any ideas she had if she felt they would improve the shot e.g.
raising the tripod level. She works three days a week, meaning she is often
readily available to help with filming and would be around on short notice.
• Georgia also fits really well with the character I cast her for. As a victim of
domestic abuse, it is important the audience feel fear and sympathy for the
character in order to create an effective piece. Georgia is of a small frame
and petite, therefore it is much easier to portray her as vulnerable and
powerless as opposed to a really tall actor. Having previously achieved high
grades in Drama and Media, Georgia has previous experience and talent in
acting, therefore making her the perfect actor for the character.
The Husband - Actor
• The actor I have cast to play this role is Mandeep Singh. Living very
close to me means that he is very convenient to be in my piece, as he
doesn’t need to travel far to get to the filming locations which would
take up more of his time and money. Taking a gap year, he currently
doesn’t work or study and so for the majority of the time he is available
at short notice. Last year, he was cast into a project similar to mine,
therefore he understands how things need to be done and has
experience in acting in a piece. Mandeep also studied Drama at school,
giving him knowledge and skills that will help when it comes to filming
him, for example he understands things such as proxemics that I will be
applying to scenes he will be in.
• His physical appearance is very fitting and appropriate for the character
he will be playing. He is very tall and of a large frame, this will help
when it comes to constructing a character that is represented as over-
powering, dominant, frightening and aggressive. With his body type he
will easily be able to portray himself as over-powering Georgia and
having an advantage in strength and power over her. From his frame
size he is obviously a lot more powerful and stronger than Georgia, this
will help to build fear for her character amongst my audience as she is
clearly vulnerable and defenceless against him.
The Wife - Costume
• For the wife I will have two different costumes for different scenes. There will be one costume
for the scenes where Georgia is sat in her bedroom on her own, and another for when she is
outside with her husband supposedly happy an when she is in the house during conflict with
the husband.
• For the final scenes after the fight where she is sitting alone in her bedroom, she will be
wearing light trousers with a white top and a white cardigan. The colour white will represent
her purity and innocence within this relationship. The colour white combined with the light and
floaty cardigan will make her appear as almost heavenly and non-naturalistic. This will open
the question up to audiences as to whether or not she has died and is a ghost. It is not the
type of outfit people would casually and normally wear, this will hopefully make the audience
begin to consider the possibility that she is a ghost and not really there anymore.
• The first costume will contrast with this, she will be dressed in brighter colours that show her
as more naturalistic and normal looking. Bright colours are often associated with: energy, life,
activity and attention-grabbing. The brightness of the colours is to represent that she is still
alive, active and can still get attention from others as at this point she is really there and visible
to other people. This outfit will make her stand out, which contrasts with the all white outfit she
will also wear that would make her subtle and almost invisible.
The Husband - Costume• Throughout the entire piece, this character will be wearing black shoes, black
jeans and a black hoody. This character is being portrayed as evil, violent and
aggressive throughout the whole piece, I want audiences to hate the character
but also feel fear of the character. I chose an outfit that was completely black as
the colour black carries the connotations of: evil, fear, dark, power, death and
mystery. These emotions run all throughout my piece and are mostly caused by
this character, having him dressed in all black will help portray him as an evil
character to be scared of. The trainers and hoodie often make people think of
gangs, youths and violent thugs. This helps create a portrayal of my male
character as criminal, dangerous and evil. Creating this representation of this
character not only makes audiences more scared of him, but also more
sympathetic and fearful for Georgia – therefore putting her into a damsel-in-
distress role. According to my audience research, people like to see a damsel-
in-distress in soap, and so by making her appear as in danger and vulnerable
will mean meeting the needs of my audience and boosting the success of the
piece. With him in all black and her in all white for some scenes creates an
contrast of the two characters – this creates binary opposition in the piece as it
now demonstrates the conflict between good (represented by all white) and evil
(shown by the black)

From his frame size he is obviously a lot more powerful and stronger than Georgia, this will help to build fear for her character amongst my audience as she is clearly vulnerable and defenceless against him.
  • 4. The Wife - Costume • For the wife I will have two different costumes for different scenes. There will be one costume for the scenes where Georgia is sat in her bedroom on her own, and another for when she is outside with her husband supposedly happy an when she is in the house during conflict with the husband. • For the final scenes after the fight where she is sitting alone in her bedroom, she will be wearing light trousers with a white top and a white cardigan. The colour white will represent her purity and innocence within this relationship. The colour white combined with the light and floaty cardigan will make her appear as almost heavenly and non-naturalistic. This will open the question up to audiences as to whether or not she has died and is a ghost. It is not the type of outfit people would casually and normally wear, this will hopefully make the audience begin to consider the possibility that she is a ghost and not really there anymore. • The first costume will contrast with this, she will be dressed in brighter colours that show her as more naturalistic and normal looking. Bright colours are often associated with: energy, life, activity and attention-grabbing. The brightness of the colours is to represent that she is still alive, active and can still get attention from others as at this point she is really there and visible to other people. This outfit will make her stand out, which contrasts with the all white outfit she will also wear that would make her subtle and almost invisible.
  • 5. The Husband - Costume• Throughout the entire piece, this character will be wearing black shoes, black jeans and a black hoody. This character is being portrayed as evil, violent and aggressive throughout the whole piece, I want audiences to hate the character but also feel fear of the character. I chose an outfit that was completely black as the colour black carries the connotations of: evil, fear, dark, power, death and mystery. These emotions run all throughout my piece and are mostly caused by this character, having him dressed in all black will help portray him as an evil character to be scared of. The trainers and hoodie often make people think of gangs, youths and violent thugs. This helps create a portrayal of my male character as criminal, dangerous and evil. Creating this representation of this character not only makes audiences more scared of him, but also more sympathetic and fearful for Georgia – therefore putting her into a damsel-in- distress role. According to my audience research, people like to see a damsel- in-distress in soap, and so by making her appear as in danger and vulnerable will mean meeting the needs of my audience and boosting the success of the piece. With him in all black and her in all white for some scenes creates an contrast of the two characters – this creates binary opposition in the piece as it now demonstrates the conflict between good (represented by all white) and evil (shown by the black)
