2. How have I posed/dressed my actors?
• In my film opening I have dressed each character appropriately to the role they are playing. This meant
that the ‘villain’ was dressed in all black to show the hidden identity and the darkness behind the
character. The mum was dressed in every day clothes to show how she isn’t someone to go beyond her
comfort zone. And then I dressed the girl in warming clothes to show she is cold and maybe this could link
to the coldness emotion she is getting from her family. They’ve all ben dressed this way so that they match
the way in which there characters are trying to be conveyed and the way I want the audience to straight
away identify each character. When picking the outfits for my characters I had to think about the way in
which stereotypically a ‘villain’ would dress and the same with a mum and daughter.

area she doesn't’t like to leave. The girl in
this scene is in her ‘base’ layer of what she
then wears throughout the clip.

3. What does my mise-en-scene communicate about the
people (social group) represented?
• The girl throughout the clip is consistently shown as the key character of this piece. She is dressed in her
everyday clothes to reflect upon the target audience who would consistently wear everyday day clothes
and never wear anything more or less. The clothing would link her to the teenage age and reflect upon
whom might be the target audience. The lighting is always bright around her conveying that she is an
iconic person of the clip and how she is well lit tells us that she has no darkness or evil related to her.
• The male character of the clip who is the villain is shown in dark clothing to show his evil. This reflects
upon the gothic youths whom enjoy the thrill and the deadliness that a character can convey and how
they like to see a person being a victim. The lighting around the villain is always dark which reflect on the
darkness in the character and that those watching the film should feel the way the villain is feeling.
• The mother character is shown in clothes at which you should get a warm humbling feeling. This will
attract an older people that might be middle aged adults who like to watch thriller films. The way her
clothes reflect on her social group is that those watching around the age of 30-40 would be wearing
stereotypically motherly clothes and by putting the mum in those clothes shows that those watching may
have been in similar situations to the mother. The lighting around the mum is always warming which tells
us that although she comes across quite rude and horrible she is actual a lovely women and those
watching would also be lovely people yet they might have an angry aggressive side to them aswell.

4. How does your product represent its
target audience?
• My product represents my target audience due to be targeted to those who enjoy watching thrillers. I
stereotypically dressed my target audience in everyday clothes and then chose them to be darker clothing
colour’s than light colour’s. This is because I feel thriller films have a dark feel so those watching the film
with have a dark feeling inside them! However if I was to change the way in which my target audience
dressed after constructing my product together I would dress them in even darker clothes to show their
love for the tension and drama in thriller films. I feel that the representation of my film to my target
audience is fairly equal and fits well with the social groupings this audience would be in. It fits the dark
daring audience and mainly for the older generation of 15 and over as some content could terrify younger
children and also could be seen as inappropriate.
These are the characters I created to
convey my target audience. I feel the colour
schemes of both match well and give a dark
tense feel to both of them.

5. How have you conformed to
conventions or mixed it up? Why?
• In my film opening I have conformed the genre conventions to a certain extent. I have included a dark
gloomy forest as my location for the majority of the opening to show that the place where the girl isn’t a
comfortable environment. However I haven’t included things such as; knifes, guns, blood, haunted house,
in the opening as the beginning was only a short flashback of the start of her journey away from home.
This doesn’t mean that these conventions wouldn’t of been used if I had continued to create the film as
they would of however I didn’t show them in the opening due to not wanting to give everything away.
