To meet the new connectivity requirements of the emerging IoT segment, 3GPP has taken evolutionary steps on both the network side and the device side. A single technology or solution cannot be ideal to all the different potential IoT applications, market situations and spectrum availability. As a result, the 3GPP standardizing several technologies, including Extended Coverage GSM (EC-GSM), LTE-M and NB-IoT.
LTE-M, NB-IoT and EC-GSM are all superior solutions to meet IoT requirements as a family of solutions, and can complement each other based on technology availability, use case requirements and deployment scenarios. The evolution for these technologies is shown in figure #5. Technical studies and normative work for the support of Machine Type Communication (MTC) as part of 3GPP LTE specifications for RAN began in 3GPP Release 12 and are continuing with the goals of developing features optimized for devices with MTC traffic.

An ongoing Forbes article underscored the significance of organizations enormous and little to be ready for 5G network. The most talked about advantage of 5G network is speed. Where 4G has download rates of around 20Mbps, 5G is required to 500 to 1500 Mbps as it so happens even before 5G foundations are finished.
Important commercial applications related to 5G speed factors include:
Mobile AR shopping experience will revolutionize the retail industry
Usher in self-driving cars
Focus on unprecedented automation in manufacturing
Change the healthcare industry and create new business opportunities, including telecommunications companies, application developers, pharmaceutical companies, wearable device manufacturers, government medical institutions, and insurance companies
In addition to obtaining 5G training, experts suggest that companies now start budgeting 5G investments and strengthening big data analysis.
Companies need to make sure that they have the right data analysis tools to gather insights from the data coming through the growth of automation and artificial intelligence (AI).
When it comes to artificial intelligence, it is generally believed that 5G architecture has its speed and near-zero latency, and will usher in a generation of machine learning and AI applications, which will change the way enterprises rely on mobile networks.
Therefore, companies should work with engineers to reassess the areas of operation where machines can be automated and machine learning/AI can be applied.

Agri-IoT: A Semantic Framework for Internet of Things-enabled Smart Farming A...Andreas Kamilaris
With the recent advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), it is now possible to process a large number of sensor data streams using different large-scale IoT platforms. These IoT frameworks are used to collect, process and analyse data streams in real-time and facilitate provision of smart solutions
designed to provide decision support. Existing IoT-based solutions are mainly domain-dependent, providing stream processing and analytics focusing on specific areas (smart cities, healthcare etc.). In the context of agri-food industry, a variety of external parameters belonging to different domains (e.g. weather conditions, regulations etc.) have a major influence over the food supply chain, while flexible and adaptive IoT frameworks, essential to truly realize the concept of smart farming, are currently inexistent. In this presentation, we propose Agri-IoT, a semantic framework for IoT-based smart farming applications, which supports reasoning over
various heterogeneous sensor data streams in real-time. Agri-
IoT can integrate multiple cross-domain data streams, providing
a complete semantic processing pipeline, offering a common
framework for smart farming applications. Agri-IoT supports
large-scale data analytics and event detection, ensuring seamless interoperability among sensors, services, processes, operations, farmers and other relevant actors, including online information sources and linked open datasets and streams available on the Web.
