This document discusses utilizing liquid waste biogas from livestock manure as an alternative electrical energy source through microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology. MFCs can convert complex organic materials in waste into electrons through microbial metabolism. The study aimed to characterize the electrical energy generated from liquid waste biogas using an MFC system and investigate changes in biogas substrate properties after MFC use. Testing showed the biogas had high COD and BOD levels. An MFC system produced over 1,000 mV of power, while a two-chamber MFC using different electrolytes produced over 1,000 mV and 0.1 mA of current.
