2. • Indore, also spelled Indur, city, western Madhya Pradesh state, central
India. It is located in an upland area on the Saraswati and Khan rivers,
which are tributaries of the Shipra River.
• Indore was founded in 1715 as a trade market on the Narmada River valley
route by local landowners, who erected Indreshwar Temple (1741), from
which the name Indore is derived.
• Indore is the most-populous city in the state. It is the chief collecting and
distributing centre for western Madhya Pradesh as well as a commercial

8. • Resided by the rulers of the Holkar dynasty, the Lal Bagh Palace is class
and grandeur personified.
• The palace is spread on a sprawling area of 28 acres and reflects the taste
of the rulers of the Holkar dynasty.
• The palace that once was a witness to the grandeur of the Holkar dynasty,
it is situated on the banks of River Khan, 3.2 km. away from the main city.
• The construction had begun during the time of Tukoji Rao Holkar in 1886,
and completed 35 years later, by his successor Tukoji Rao Holkar in 1921.

9. • Rajwada is a magnificent and historical palace that is located in the city of
Indore and was constructed by the Holkars more than 200 years ago.
• It is a seven-storied structure located near the Chhatris and serves as an
excellent example of royal grandeur and architectural skills.
• Located near the famous Kajuri Market in Indore, Rajwada stands out from
the surroundings.
• However, there are two parts to this architectural landmark - The newer
one lies in the northern part of the city while the older one, lies in the old
town place.

10. • Plummeting from a height of 300 meters, the Patalpani Waterfall is the
most scenic photo stop in Indore.
• These roaring falls are enveloped by refreshing mist and dense verdure
making them the favourite getaway picnic spot.
• The monsoons swell the falls and may make it risky for close encounters
causing accidents. It is best to maintain cautious distance from the
waterfall during the rains.

11. • The Kamala Nehru Park, popularly known as Chidiya Ghar, is a zoological
park on the outskirts of Indore that is home to exotic carnivores, awe-
striking amphibians and vividly colourful avifauna.
• New addition to the family is a white tigress and her three cubs! You can
enjoy buggy rides, pony rides, elephant rides and camel rides here too.

12. • Bada Ganpati was built during the reign of Queen Ahilya Bai Holkar in
1875. This temple is located at the western end of M G Road in Indore.
• The statue of Lord Ganesha housed in this temple is 25 ft in height, which
makes it one of the largest statues of Lord Ganesha in the world.
• The construction material used in carving the deity of Lord Ganesha
comprised limestone, jaggery, bricks, soil and water.
• Soil used for construction of this idol was brought from Varanasi and
Mathura. The frame of the deity was made of metals such as gold, silver
and other metals.

13. • Kanch Mandir is a temple, which was made up of glass and mirrors. As the
temple was built by built by Sir Hukamchand Seth in the early 20th century, this
temple is often called as Seth Hukamchand Temple.
• This beautiful temple is a sacred place among people of Jain religious
community, as the idol of Lord Mahavira, who was the founder of Jainism, is the
presiding deity in the temple.
• Made from black onyx, the idol of Lord Mahavira is adorned with colourful glass
beads. The temple is entirely made of glass including the walls, ceiling, floor,
pillars and doors.
• Along with mirrors, patterned ceramic tiles are also used for decorating the
temple.
