About Roorkee City
● Roorkee is one of the developing cities of
Uttarakhand with many initiatives taken to promote
the city at its best in fields of education, research and
industrial development.
● Such is the involvement of the city in educational
excellence that it is often called as Shiksha Nagari by
eminent people. However, the background of the city
is quite different from the one seen at present.
Roorkee History
● According to the history of the city the
name of Roorkee was previously said as
“Rurki” which according to the popular
belief was derived from the name of the
wife of the Rajput tribal Chief, called as
RURI.
● The first reference of the city was found
in Ain-e Akbari by Abul Fazal where
during the Mughal times, the city served
as a Pargana looking after administrative
works at the time of King Akbar.
Roorkee Culture Fest
The Cul-Soc, as it is popularly referred to as, is a student body which is
responsible for all the cultural events in the Institute round the year. It
comprises of seven sections which take care of the varied fields of
cultural events. There are three performing on stage sections and four
off stage sections as listed below:
❖ Audio Section Music Section
❖ Choreography Section Programme Management Section
❖ Dramatics Section
❖ Light Section
❖ Literary Section
Climate In Roorkee
In Roorkee, the climate is warm and temperate. Roorkee is a city with
significant rainfall. The climate here is classified as Cfa by the
Köppen-Geiger system. The average annual temperature in Roorkee is
23.7 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 1170 mm.

2000,[16] Roorkee was a part of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
