 Another music video I will be analysing is
called Perfect by Pink. It is produced by Max
Martin and Shellback. The writers are Pink,
Max Martin and Shellback. It was released on
December 14, 2010
 This track is similar to my chosen potential
tracks because it is about not being happy
with yourself
 This track is about the horrors of depression,
self-harm and suicide. It is based on a
women who has gone through a lot to
become a successful artist
 Depression
 Suicide
 Self-harm
 Bullying
 Insecurities
 Self-hatred
 Peer pressure
 The clothing Pink is wearing is the same
throughout the whole video, this could
represent that her past experiences have
made her successful. This could also suggest
that her past will always come back to haunt
her
 The music video conforms to expectations of
Pink as it gives out a strong message and also
is true as she has faced similar things
included in this video which makes the video
more inspiring
 This video is both conceptual and narrative
based. It is conceptual as it initially starts off
with bullying which leads onto the concept
of self-harm, depression and so on
representing that there are consequences to
getting bullied . It is also narrative based
because it includes flashbacks which links to
experiences. Also, these are realistic
experiences as most people do experience
such situations and is also true experiences
as Pink has experienced these concepts.
 There are many flashbacks which is set in a
school this suggests that she had a normal
upbringing however, the situation she
experienced stopped her from having the
preferred upbringing. The girl is at one point
dressed in gothic clothes and it would appear
that her mother does not agree with this choice
of clothing, this could represent her as being an
"outsider" and this is linked to her being alone
most of the time, her being an outsider could be
the main reason why she faced all these
concepts and this is juxtaposed against the
ending where she is wearing the gothic clothes
which represents that she finally has the
freedom to do what she wants
 There is a close-up when the teddy bear is
shown and this could connote that all that she
has gone through will stay with her forever and
it will shape her future. Also, it could suggest
that she needs to get up and make a change
otherwise the past will keep creeping up on her.
There is a close-up of Pink's face while she lip
synchs and this shows the details on her face in
terms of her emotional and physical state. This
close-up is also used to represent that she is
singing about her own personal experiences
which creates a sense of personal connection
between the audience and the artist
 There are a lot of flashbacks used in this music
video. This was done behind Pink and could
represent her past life and this connotes that
even though she has had a bad life she still
became successful and the "flashbacks" are what
makes her who she is today. This is something
that is very cleverly done as it represents the
past and the future representing the significant
change of her blossoming into a strong women.
The fact that she is wearing black in the video
represents that her experiences will forever
affect her and just like the flashbacks/memories
they will never be forgotten
 There are several times when Pink lip synchs
directly to the camera which suggests that
she is almost "pouring her heart out" to make
us understand what she went through and
almost inspire us by representing the good
and bad at the same time with the use of
flashbacks behind her. Furthermore, could
represent her leaving the past behind for
good and making herself feel better by
expressing all her feelings towards these
experiences
 Women/ teenage girls with insecurities
 It is a song with a very strong message
behind it using Pink's personal experiences to
inspire those who are going through the same
thing she did.
 The use of the gothic clothes would be
something I would like to include in my music
video as it would give my video a more
dramatic effect on the audience as most
goths are stereotyped as "outsiders"

A2 preparatory task (professionally produced music video two)

  • 2.  Another music video I will be analysing is called Perfect by Pink. It is produced by Max Martin and Shellback. The writers are Pink, Max Martin and Shellback. It was released on December 14, 2010
  • 3.  This track is similar to my chosen potential tracks because it is about not being happy with yourself
  • 4.  This track is about the horrors of depression, self-harm and suicide. It is based on a women who has gone through a lot to become a successful artist

  • 6.  The clothing Pink is wearing is the same throughout the whole video, this could represent that her past experiences have made her successful. This could also suggest that her past will always come back to haunt her
  • 7.  The music video conforms to expectations of Pink as it gives out a strong message and also is true as she has faced similar things included in this video which makes the video more inspiring
  • 8.  This video is both conceptual and narrative based. It is conceptual as it initially starts off with bullying which leads onto the concept of self-harm, depression and so on representing that there are consequences to getting bullied . It is also narrative based because it includes flashbacks which links to experiences. Also, these are realistic experiences as most people do experience such situations and is also true experiences as Pink has experienced these concepts.
  • 9.  There are many flashbacks which is set in a school this suggests that she had a normal upbringing however, the situation she experienced stopped her from having the preferred upbringing. The girl is at one point dressed in gothic clothes and it would appear that her mother does not agree with this choice of clothing, this could represent her as being an "outsider" and this is linked to her being alone most of the time, her being an outsider could be the main reason why she faced all these concepts and this is juxtaposed against the ending where she is wearing the gothic clothes which represents that she finally has the freedom to do what she wants
  • 10.  There is a close-up when the teddy bear is shown and this could connote that all that she has gone through will stay with her forever and it will shape her future. Also, it could suggest that she needs to get up and make a change otherwise the past will keep creeping up on her. There is a close-up of Pink's face while she lip synchs and this shows the details on her face in terms of her emotional and physical state. This close-up is also used to represent that she is singing about her own personal experiences which creates a sense of personal connection between the audience and the artist
  • 11.  There are a lot of flashbacks used in this music video. This was done behind Pink and could represent her past life and this connotes that even though she has had a bad life she still became successful and the "flashbacks" are what makes her who she is today. This is something that is very cleverly done as it represents the past and the future representing the significant change of her blossoming into a strong women. The fact that she is wearing black in the video represents that her experiences will forever affect her and just like the flashbacks/memories they will never be forgotten
  • 12.  There are several times when Pink lip synchs directly to the camera which suggests that she is almost "pouring her heart out" to make us understand what she went through and almost inspire us by representing the good and bad at the same time with the use of flashbacks behind her. Furthermore, could represent her leaving the past behind for good and making herself feel better by expressing all her feelings towards these experiences

  • 14.  It is a song with a very strong message behind it using Pink's personal experiences to inspire those who are going through the same thing she did.
  • 15.  The use of the gothic clothes would be something I would like to include in my music video as it would give my video a more dramatic effect on the audience as most goths are stereotyped as "outsiders"
