What have you learned from your audience feedback? (872)
As the genre of my musicvideoispredominantlymainstreampop,mytargetaudience is
verybroad as itis one of the mostpopulargenresof musicthat manypeople willenjoyand
listento.Moreover, mytargetdemographicspecificallywouldbe afemale skew,aged12-30
as the videofollowsafemaleactressandthisindependentstoryline will appeal tomore of a
female audience.The secondarytargetdemographicwouldbe amale skew aged12-25 as
theymay enjoythe mainstreammusicalsobutthe genderdemographicwouldmostlikely
be a 70/30 split.Asmy maintargetaudience isbetweenthe agesof 12-30 theyare
teenagersandyoungadultssothe majorityof themwouldstill be ineducation,parttime
jobsor apprenticeshipssotheywon’tbe associatedwithadefinite socialclass.However,the
olderhalf of the demographicwouldmostlikelybe associatedwiththe A,B,C2 classesas
theycouldbe in a varietyof differentpositionsinthe workplaceandbe interestedinmy
musicvideoasthe style of musicis so mainstreamandthe plotof the videocan be relatable
inmany ways.Therefore,the psychographicformyaudience wouldbe ‘mainstream’ asthe
musicvideocomesunderthe popgenre whichderivesfrom the word‘popular’,andmy
demographicwill be likelytosticktothe trendsandlistentopopularmusicplatformsthat
wouldshowcase mymusicvideo,suchasYouTube,Vevo,andMTV.
In consideringmytargetaudience indetail,Iknew Ineededtogetfeedbackdirectlyfrommy
target demographicthroughoutmakingmymusicvideosothatI knew myfinal product
wouldappeal tothem,astheycouldsuggestimprovementsandtell me whatIdidwell
aboutmy musicvideo.Ifeltthe audience feedbackwasveryimportantwhencreatingmy
musicvideotoensure thatI createda successful productthatI likedandthat myaudience
liked.
I gatheredaudience feedbackinafew differentways,bydoing1-1 interviewswithmymedia
teachers,gettingafellowmediastudentto doa detailedindividual feedbackvideo,and
doinga focusgroup withsome of my targetdemographic,female’sages16-18. I found
gettingdirectfeedbackfrompeople thatIknew wasa good wayof gettingconstructive
criticismandsuggestionsasIknewtheiranswerswouldbe genuine,asopposedto
anonymoussurveyfeedback,andtheyhadthe time toindividuallysitdownandwatchthe
musicvideoinorderto give detailedfeedbackthatIcouldreallybuildupon.However,I
foundthat the mostbeneficialaudience feedbackIgotwasfrom mymediateachersasthey
knewandunderstoodthe criteriaformusicvideosbetterthanIdid,andtheycouldgive me
indepthfeedbackonwhattypesof effectstoadd andhow to make myfootage lookreally
effectiveandappealingbothtoa mediaexpertandtothe upperthirdof my target
demographic.Althoughthiswasthe mostbeneficial,Istill wantedtogetdirectfeedback
frommy audience soI made sure that the focusgroup waswithinmytargetdemographic
range so that I couldsee that theydefinitelylikedthe lookof the videoandthattheywould
watch itoutside of the focusgroup.
Some of the feedbackIgotduringproductionof mymusic videowasthatI initiallydidn’t
have enoughfootage andtherefore mymusicvideo didn’thave astoryline thatcouldbe
easilyfollowed.Therefore Irespondedtothisfeedbackbyre-shootingsome footage I
alreadyhadas well asfilminginadditional locationslikeLondonandWaterlooasthese were
initiallynotgoingtobe in mymusic video.Therefore,thisconstructivecriticismfrommy
teachersandfellowmediastudentswasreallyhelpful asitallowedmymusicvideotomake
more sense andappeal to mytarget demographicwhenIshowedtheminthe focusgroup.
WhenI had finishedmymusicvideo,Igotindividual feedbackfromamediastudentinmy
classand she saidthat I shouldcolourgrade my footage more sothat the coloursstoodout
and were boldertomake the footage lookmore aestheticallypleasing.Itookthissuggestion
on boardand colourgradedmy colouredfootage,butalsointensifiedthe contrastonthe
blackand white shotsinorderto make the footage lookmore dramatic,whichmyfocus
groupseemedtoreallylike.
The focus groupwas the final audience feedbackIgot for my musicvideo,sotheir
commentswere difficulttoapplytomymusicvideoasI had alreadycompleteditanddone
my final draft.However,the commentstheygave were almostall positive andtheir
suggestionswere onlyminor,andtheysaidtheyenjoyedthe musicvideoasitwas,which
my aimfor the final productwas.
Overall,Ibelieve the audience feedbackwasacrucial part of me creatinga successful music
videoasit allowedme tobe successful asa mediastudentbutalsosuccessful inadheringto
my targetaudienceswantsandneedsforwhattheyhopedamusicvideowouldlooklike.

(872) As the genre of my musicvideoispredominantlymainstreampop,mytargetaudience is verybroad as itis one of the mostpopulargenresof musicthat manypeople willenjoyand listento.Moreover, mytargetdemographicspecificallywouldbe afemale skew,aged12-30 as the videofollowsafemaleactressandthisindependentstoryline will appeal tomore of a female audience.The secondarytargetdemographicwouldbe amale skew aged12-25 as theymay enjoythe mainstreammusicalsobutthe genderdemographicwouldmostlikely be a 70/30 split.Asmy maintargetaudience isbetweenthe agesof 12-30 theyare teenagersandyoungadultssothe majorityof themwouldstill be ineducation,parttime jobsor apprenticeshipssotheywon’tbe associatedwithadefinite socialclass.However,the olderhalf of the demographicwouldmostlikelybe associatedwiththe A,B,C2 classesas theycouldbe in a varietyof differentpositionsinthe workplaceandbe interestedinmy musicvideoasthe style of musicis so mainstreamandthe plotof the videocan be relatable inmany ways.Therefore,the psychographicformyaudience wouldbe ‘mainstream’ asthe musicvideocomesunderthe popgenre whichderivesfrom the word‘popular’,andmy demographicwill be likelytosticktothe trendsandlistentopopularmusicplatformsthat wouldshowcase mymusicvideo,suchasYouTube,Vevo,andMTV. In consideringmytargetaudience indetail,Iknew Ineededtogetfeedbackdirectlyfrommy target demographicthroughoutmakingmymusicvideosothatI knew myfinal product wouldappeal tothem,astheycouldsuggestimprovementsandtell me whatIdidwell aboutmy musicvideo.Ifeltthe audience feedbackwasveryimportantwhencreatingmy musicvideotoensure thatI createda successful productthatI likedandthat myaudience liked. I gatheredaudience feedbackinafew differentways,bydoing1-1 interviewswithmymedia teachers,gettingafellowmediastudentto doa detailedindividual feedbackvideo,and doinga focusgroup withsome of my targetdemographic,female’sages16-18. I found gettingdirectfeedbackfrompeople thatIknew wasa good wayof gettingconstructive criticismandsuggestionsasIknewtheiranswerswouldbe genuine,asopposedto anonymoussurveyfeedback,andtheyhadthe time toindividuallysitdownandwatchthe musicvideoinorderto give detailedfeedbackthatIcouldreallybuildupon.However,I foundthat the mostbeneficialaudience feedbackIgotwasfrom mymediateachersasthey knewandunderstoodthe criteriaformusicvideosbetterthanIdid,andtheycouldgive me indepthfeedbackonwhattypesof effectstoadd andhow to make myfootage lookreally effectiveandappealingbothtoa mediaexpertandtothe upperthirdof my target demographic.Althoughthiswasthe mostbeneficial,Istill wantedtogetdirectfeedback frommy audience soI made sure that the focusgroup waswithinmytargetdemographic range so that I couldsee that theydefinitelylikedthe lookof the videoandthattheywould watch itoutside of the focusgroup. Some of the feedbackIgotduringproductionof mymusic videowasthatI initiallydidn’t have enoughfootage andtherefore mymusicvideo didn’thave astoryline thatcouldbe easilyfollowed.Therefore Irespondedtothisfeedbackbyre-shootingsome footage I alreadyhadas well asfilminginadditional locationslikeLondonandWaterlooasthese were initiallynotgoingtobe in mymusic video.Therefore,thisconstructivecriticismfrommy teachersandfellowmediastudentswasreallyhelpful asitallowedmymusicvideotomake more sense andappeal to mytarget demographicwhenIshowedtheminthe focusgroup. WhenI had finishedmymusicvideo,Igotindividual feedbackfromamediastudentinmy
  • 2. classand she saidthat I shouldcolourgrade my footage more sothat the coloursstoodout and were boldertomake the footage lookmore aestheticallypleasing.Itookthissuggestion on boardand colourgradedmy colouredfootage,butalsointensifiedthe contrastonthe blackand white shotsinorderto make the footage lookmore dramatic,whichmyfocus groupseemedtoreallylike. The focus groupwas the final audience feedbackIgot for my musicvideo,sotheir commentswere difficulttoapplytomymusicvideoasI had alreadycompleteditanddone my final draft.However,the commentstheygave were almostall positive andtheir suggestionswere onlyminor,andtheysaidtheyenjoyedthe musicvideoasitwas,which my aimfor the final productwas. Overall,Ibelieve the audience feedbackwasacrucial part of me creatinga successful music videoasit allowedme tobe successful asa mediastudentbutalsosuccessful inadheringto my targetaudienceswantsandneedsforwhattheyhopedamusicvideowouldlooklike.
