Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis Essay
Western culture has often misperceived the east and the way that their society functions. In Marjane
Satrapi s Persepolis, Satrapi uses graphic novels as a way to demonstrate to the western culture how
the east has been misrepresented. The use of media helps to depict to the west how their views of the
east may have been unfairly formed in the past. The media has only revealed limited knowledge that
only shows partial perspectives because it is difficult to get perspectives of the minorities although
they are the ones who hold the most truth. In other words the use of graphic novels and a child s
perspective give the west a new idea on how it is that society in the east functions. This style of
writing brings the connection between the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By allowing the reader to form their own perspective it makes the reader reconsider the assumptions...
[of the] so called other by giving the reader the freedom to perceive the events of the revolution as
they wish and not reconsider the way that they once understood the people of the east to be (Darda
34). Satrapi is using her experience and graphic novels to show what her experience as a child was,
she does not claim at any point to be telling the entire story of the revolution she is merely introducing
a new perspective which up until that point had not been seen in the western countries. The concept of
making the hidden visible allows the reader to understand the Israeli revolution in a way that is has not
been viewed before (Chute 106). Through the strategic use of graphic novels it demonstrates the way
that she experienced it first hand without the interruption of western style media. Graphic novels take
away any assumptions that you may make about the revolution while reading it because you have the
image right in front of you and there is no way for it to be misinterpreted. Due to the large impact that
media has on the viewpoints and ideas of western citizens the westerns perspective of what is true and
what doesn t exist has

The Influence of Celebrities Essay
Have you ever wondered what influences us to behave the way we do? Look a certain way? Or even
looked for an explanation to what causes us to apply a certain perspective regarding personal and
controversial issues? One of the answers to these questions may revolve around the influence we
absorb from celebrities. A definitive term for celebrity is an iconic figure to a category or group who
has achieved success in one or multiple aspects of their lives. As a result, these individuals have drawn
in publicity and fame. Over the years with the advances in media and other forms of communication,
celebrities have become topics of discussion worldwide, rather if it s at school, with colleagues or at
the dinner table, it is fair to say that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his first biggest hits was the song, Black and Yellow which was released back in 2011. Even
after claiming his song to be number one on iTunes, he continues to produce music, and selling out
tickets for his concerts and tours to date. Along with bringing home quite a luxurious paycheck, his
name and face have been seen on merchandise, billboards, and other public displays. Wiz Khalifa has
made it clear through his music that he has a strong passion towards smoking pot, as someone who is
in the public eye, he has confidently expressed being high as strength through his music. With this
being said, he has definitely rallied up a fan base of stoners who are quite admirable of his lifestyle.
As a firm believer to the idea that celebrities influence our lifestyles, Beyoncé personally, has
significantly influenced me. Growing up, Beyoncé has been a role model since I was very young and
still continues to live up to that standard today. She is considered to be a VERY mainstream artist and
entertainer. What inspires me about her is the genuine quality in her work, which she produces. She is
undeniably talented and over a long period of time she has been able to sustain excellent work ethics
and authentic passion in everything she does. All these characteristics about Beyoncé influence my
behavior because they drive me to give 110 percent in my life. This reference is evidence

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Character Analysis
Even though we may not realize it, the environments we live in have a big effect on our personality
and character. People are reflections of the interactions they make with the people and institutions
surrounding them, and when this is changed the people themselves change too. This is prevalent in
both The Lord of The Flies by William Goldberg and The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong by Tim O
brien, as both stories cause the characters introduced in their isolated settings to adapt in a way that
reflect their new surroundings. These characters start out as normal individuals, but as time passes,
they accustom themselves to the new circumstances they face. As demonstrated by Mary Anne from
The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong and Jack from The Lord of the Flies a severe change in
environment results in an extreme, yet gradual change in character, and goals which are marked by

When Mary Anne first comes to Vietnam, she is depicted as a stereotypical cute blonde and blue eyed
American girl, with a bubbly personality and a sense of curiosity. At this point she hasn t been
exposed to the current state of Vietnam, and all she knows is her home, the United States. Her
personality and goals reflect the environment she has been living in for the majority of her life and the
interactions she has with others. This is similar to how Jack is near the beginning of The Lord Of the
Flies as he is depicted as a chapter chorister and head boy. Jack is shown to be a character who is a
arrogant and authoritative, yet innocent and civilized. He has a mutual respect for Ralph who is also
another born leader , who have a common understanding of what needs to be done on the island to
ensure a working society: a rescue fire and hunting. These images of both Mary Anne and Jack are

The Internet Archive Preserves The Live Web
The Internet archive preserves the live web by saving snapshots of the websites made with a specific
date which can be browsed or searched for various reasons. Its object is to save the whole web without
being in favor of a specific lan guage, domain or geographical location. The importance of archiving
made it important to check its coverage. In this paper, we try to determine how well Arabic websites
are archived and indexed, and if the number of archived and indexed websites is affected by by
country code top level domain, geographic location, creation date and depth. We also crawled for
Arabic hyperlinks and checked its archiving and indexing.

1. INTRODUCTION
Arabic Language is the fourth largest language on the Internet, it comes after English, Chines and
Spanish. Arabic Internet users have grown rapidly, in the year of 2009 17% of Arabic speaker use the
Internet and at 2013 almost 36% of Arabic speakers use the Internet. Now, almost 135.6 million
Arabic users are on the Internet [1].
As the Web grows quickly and at the same time pages are disappearing the need for archiving is
becoming more important [3]. Web pages need to be preserved for the future cul tural data mining.
Archiving the Internet is becoming very important and several numbers of institutions have created
archives to preserve websites. However, to our knowledge we could not find any Arabic institute that
specializes in collecting and preserving Arabic web pages.
This growth in users of Arabic web pages requires some statistical overview of Arabic websites that
exist in the live web, how far do they exist, how much of it is archived and how well are they
archived. To answer those

Core Competence for Sustainable Competitive Advantage: A Structured Methodology for Identifying
Core Competence
Khalid Hafeez, YanBing Zhang, and Naila Malak
Abstract Core competencies are the crown jewels of a company and, therefore, should be carefully
nurtured and developed. Companies can determine their future business directions based on the
strengths of competencies. However, because generalized terms such as resource, asset, capability, and
competence are not clearly explained in connection with competence theory, these posing difficulties
in understanding many contemporary management concepts. In this paper, we provide a summary of

III. CAPABILITY IS FORMED BY THE INTEGRATION OF RESOURCES Table I shows that
competitive advantage is gained by the strategic deployment of some resources, capabilities, and/or
competencies. Literature review suggests that concepts such as resources, capabilities, competencies,
and core competencies are not clearly defined. We have found that only the resource itself is defined
with a wide range of meanings. On one hand, resources are defined as anything which could be
thought of as a strength or weakness of a firm [9]. This anything may include physical resources (e.g.,
raw materials, equipment, financial endowment, etc.), human resources (e.g., training, experience,
skills, etc.), as well as organizational resources (e.g., firm image, process, routines, etc.) [4], [14].
Note that with this definition, capabilities are considered as part of resource. On the other hand,
capabilities are not part of resource because of their dynamic doing nature. Many authors argue that
capabilities are the result of resource deployment and organizational processes. Capabilities use
resources and, therefore, are more dynamic and complex entity and should be treated independent to
resources [15]. We feel more comfortable with Grant [5] definition who argues: Resources are inputs

Have you ever gone to Chinatown supposing to find a culture full of African Americans? Probably
not, because that is not where they re expected to be. We live in a world where colonies of different
colored people are expected, or otherwise discriminated into populating distinct spaces; African
Americans are supposed to be in the ghetto, Chinese belong in Chinatown, and Caucasians reserve
more elite communities. For centuries, each race has been striving to belong in a society where people
are accepted as equals and certain jobs are not handed out to favored ethnicities. This form of
discrimination has somewhat dwindled down, however, it still has an undeniable impact on the lives
of every single generation since mankind was created. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tuyen family s house is skirted safe in Richmond Hill, a luxury suburb filled with immigrants running
away from past electives, trauma and ultimately a sense of space and distance from that troubled
image of themselves (p.55). This is why Tuyen s parents cannot understand the reasons for why she
wants to move to a desolate, poverty stricken place such as College Street. They ve ran from all the
sorrow to the best of their ability and for Tuyen to move to a place of lower class , shows that luxury
space is not what she needs to fill her void of emptiness. College Street represents none of the
misfortune and embarrassment to her like it does to her parents, instead it allows her to be free. This
exemplifies the conflicting perspectives of the two generations as it shows how their past has shaped
their outlook on different aspects of life. Tuyen is able to remodel her apartment to make the space fit
her, control the privacy, explore her sexuality freely and live the communal type of lifestyle that fits in
a city that is in constant transition. She needs this type of freedom to be able to find herself and to

Another City Short Story
More Than Los Angeles
In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how
it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as
great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times
the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views
the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted
with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a
place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how
Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city.
Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors,
actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are
there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how
she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past.
When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she
would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow
up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never
expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone
famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over
time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I
have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air,
impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I
drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze
through the door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres.
I am a walking cliché. (pg. 5 6). The

Customization Of Firearms
From what I ve gathered out of this article is simply the following: Customization isn t something that
can only be obtained by modernized sporting rifles(Bolt Guns and AR s). With a few rather simplistic
steps any Gunsmith can tailor an old shotgun(smoothbore and rifled) to fit a specific shooter in some
pretty ingenious ways. First would be correcting the length of pull. In my mind, I like to compare this
aspect of firearms to a good compound bow, you can buy higher end ones and if the draw length is off
it simply will not perform what you expect of it. The same principle applies to firearms, regardless of
whether it would be a rifle or shotgun. Improper fit in this aspect will result in sub par accuracy and
more importantly, it will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall length of pull was short, the comb height was non existent and I would have to break
cheek weld all the time, and lastly the pitch was awful. The pitch is what I ll cover seeing how it was
the most problematic for me. If the shooter were to draw a line that bisected the rifle from the bore to
the Buttstock it would become obvious the problem with this old rifle. It simply was not anywhere in
line. It would ve been four fifths of the stock were below the bisection. Meaning the recoil was pretty
nasty and made follow up shots difficult. After reading this article, I ve come to the conclusion of how
to fix my old fabled Mauser, one being a new stock with more of the bore being in line to the
Buttstock. The second modification will be the porting of the barrel to help some of the muzzle climb.
Most younger gun enthusiasts associate a ported barrel directly to a Glock. I ve personally had the
same train of thought as well. The benefits of porting an old Shotgun become almost ideal for any
application. Most younger folks will probably seek out porting to fit the bill of 3 Gun Comps or for
use in the good old outdoors. Either way you cannot go wrong. Particularly if the shooter is a small
framed individual that has to absorb the majority of recoil from slugs or other heavy loads. Not only
will the shooter s shoulder forgive them it will also allow them more longevity on the gun

Age Of Reform In America Essay
American reform movements in the early to mid 1800 amp;#8217;s strived at improving our
developing society. America was growing larger, and with the expanding population, many new ideas
sprang up. Conflicting opinions between the people of the United States caused the emergence of an
Age of Reform, where people tried to change things such as the educational system and women
amp;#8217;s rights. These movements were the result of our nation amp;#8217;s self determination
and interest in improving the society we live in.
Between the 1820 amp;#8217;s and 1860 amp;#8217;s, Americans were trying new things and
promoting different ideas and ways of thinking. Once such idea is that of a utopian society. A utopian

Oneida amp;#8217;s fault lied in the fact that is was easily targeted by critics as an excuse to bypass
conventional monogamy.
Another example of a utopian experiment is the Mormons. The Mormons began when Joseph Smith
published a book called The Book of Mormon. Mormonism began to gain followers, but was never
truly accepted in the United States. Joseph Smith was persecuted due to such Mormon beliefs as
polygamy. After Joseph Smith was arrested and killed, the Mormons found haven in present day Salt
Lake City. There, they created their own form of a utopian society. Although Mormonism is still
around today, it is not in wide practice. Mormonism is another example of people trying to raise the
standard of society for the better.
The Age of Reforms also brought new hope to women amp;#8217;s rights. Women had often played a
lesser role in societies around the world, especially in America. They were never involved in politics
and nearly all women at the time stayed home to take care of the house chores. The women
amp;#8217;s rights movement that arose in the 1920 amp;#8217;s really started during the Age of
Reforms, in the 1800 amp;#8217;s.
The Women amp;#8217;s rights reform began in 1840, at a London convention concerning slavery,
when two abolitionists were turned away because they were women. From that point on Lucretia Mott
and Elizabeth Cady Stanton felt that they need to

The Downfalls of Egalitarianism and Television
What would actually happen if everyone was forced to be equal? Kurt Vonnegut envisioned the fatal
outcome in his masterpiece, Harrison Bergeron. The story illustrates what would happen if a
government or some other power takes this notion serious (Mowery). The protagonist, Harrison, who
is arrest for exuberant individuality, escapes from prison and goes on national television station to
declare himself emperor, only later to be killed by the handicap general Diane Moon. In Harrison
Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut satirizes the movement toward egalitarianism and the effect of television on
people. Egalitarianism can be absurd and detrimental to American society. In the story, heavy weights
are put on strong people, and grotesque masks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Literary Critic, Newton Minow, called television a vast wasteland of destructive or meaningless
programs. Minow claimed that instead of challenging people to think, television programming was
making it easier for people to avoid serious thought (Hist. text). The uses of television desensitize
Harrison s Mother, Hazel. Although, she did shed a tear when she witnesses her son being murder on
television, she said, I forgot, it was something real sad on television (10). Hazel becomes so numb
from watching television; she forgot what she was crying about (Alvarez). In addition, one may
determine that Hazel has attention deficit disorder because she is not to focus on anything (Themes
and cons.). According to Karen Wood, Harrison Bergeron concerns with technological problems only
as these problems express and explicate character the character of the human race (Wood). In
summary, the people gave up their individuality for the good of society of being equal.
Vonnegut s real point behind Harrison Bergeron is a serious attack on the idea of enforced equality
(Mowery). At the end of the story, Vonnegut proposes that no government is capable of suppressing
the individual completely. Rather, the inner strength of human nature at its finest is more powerful that
ill conceived laws (Mowery). In a criticism, Stanley Schatt describes the death of Harrison as, the lost
beauty, grace, and wisdom. In summary, Today American society can benefit from

The Debate Over Stem Cells And Cloning
Abstract Stem cells and cloning are very controversial today. There are debates and arguments about it
all over the internet. The idea of stem cells is to use them to help cure and prevent diseases. You can
use embryonic and adult stem cells. That s one of the reasons people argue about it, because it kills the
potential life of the embryo. [Stem Cells and Cloning] Stem cells and cloning is very controversial in
today s society. Some people believe it s not a good idea because it destroys embryos (Thomas Berg,
2006). On the other hand, some believe that the goal is to turn some of these in to embryonic stem
cells that would be a perfect genetic match to a sick patient. (Julia Cort, 2006). Unique properties ...

Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are generated by transferring cells from a preimplantation stage
embryo into a plastic laboratory culture dish that contains a nutrient broth known as culture medium.
Both types of cells have advantages and disadvantages when being used for cell based regenerative
therapies. One major difference between adult and embryonic stem cells is their different abilities in
the number and type of differentiated cell types they can become. Embryonic stem cells can become
all cell types of the body because they are pluripotent. Adult stem cells are thought to be limited to
differentiating into different cell types of their tissue of origin (National Institutions of health, 2016).
Current sources There are three different places you can find embryonic cells: cell lines that exist
already, left over from fertility treatment, and making custom ones by somatic cell nuclear transfer.
Potential uses in biomedical research Julia Cort (2006) says The Jaenisch team set out to eliminate
that potential. First, they took a tiny bit of skin from a mouse s tail and let it grow in culture. With the
skin cells growing in a Petri dish, Meissner concocted a special virus and added it to the skin cells.
The virus went to work and inserted an extra bit of DNA into the skin cell DNA. Meissner performed
the cloning, sucking up a skin cell now containing the extra DNA and transferring it into a mouse egg.
And then the team waited and

The Crisis Of Italy During World War II
Italy over the years has established itself as one of the most developed and powerful countries in all of
Europe. Although this all may be true, it has not seen a great deal of recovery after the debt crisis that
affected all of Europe and is falling behind in terms of globalization. After World War II, Italy had an
economic miracle fueled by the Marshall Plan that allowed its economy to flourish. This huge growth
was later stagnated and then in 2008, Italy was hit with a recession that it has had a hard time
recovering from. This slow recovery is making Italy an outsider in the view of Europe, and Italy has

(Sforza) This view went on for more than two years until General Marshall brought it to everyone s
attention that, all Europe was wounded, and that what had to be healed was the economic and social
structure of Europe as a whole. (Sforza) After the Marshall Plan was first introduced, Italy greeted it
with unconditional approval. The end of the Marshall Plan should have ended Italy s recovery after
World War II. However, the end of it coincided with the Korea War. The Korea War had a high
demand for metal and other manufactured products and this high demand stimulated the growth of
industry in Italy when their recovery should have been stopped after the end of the Marshall Plan. The
Marshall Plan gave Italy their economic miracle and was something that helped Italy recover after it
was left in rumble after World War II. Not only that but it was also something that helped Italy see
spectacular economic growth during the time of the 1950s and 60s. (Italian Economic Miracle) The
great economic growth seen in the 50s and 60s was stopped in the 70s and 80s as socio political
turmoil and great violence was seen in Italy. This era was known as the Years of Lead. These acts of
violence were because of terrorist attacks of shootings and bombings. These terrorist attacks also gave

Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin Essay
Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin
Maxine Kumin?s, Woodchucks provides an interesting and creative perspective into the mind state of
those influenced by nazi warfare. What begins as a seemingly humorous cat and mouse hunt,
reminiscent of such movie classics as Caddyshack, soon develops into an insatiable lust for blood.
Kumin?s descriptive language provides the reader with the insight necessary to understand to the
speaker?s psychology as they are driven beyond the boundaries of pacifism.
The poem does indeed have a rhyme scheme, yet doesn?t conform to conventional forms of rhyme
such as A, B, A, B, etc. Rather, each stanza seems to follow the order of A, B, C, A, C, B, which may

?They brought down the marigolds as a matter of course and then took over the vegetable patch

carrots being ?beheaded? which provides an appropriate transition into the next stanza.
The third stanza is the inevitable ?fall from grace? as our speaker has finally ?taken off the gloves?
and resorts to the vengeance of cold steel. The speaker utters one last phrase of motivation as he/she
eerily takes pleasure in holding the tool of his nemesis? destruction. ?The food from our mouths, I

moment to lament on his/her course of action, acknowledging that her pacifism is a thing of the past;
that he/she was once comparable to Darwin and his pension for non violence. However, this does little
to dissuade he/she from swiftly taking the life of the pests. ?I, a lapsed pacifist fallen from grace
puffed with Darwinian pieties for killing, now drew a bead on the little woodchuck?s face. He died
down in the everbearing roses.? This stanza marked the turning point of the narrative as our speaker
has been pushed beyond their boundaries into an unfamiliar realm of pleasure. A side of them has been
exposed that has remained dormant for what appears to be the duration of their life. It is now a
newfound sensation that has thrilled them beyond

Moving To A House Research Paper
Are you currently living in a house and looking at apartments for a move in the near future? Are you
worried about how to make the transition with a minimum amount of anxiety? Here are some hints to
help make the change as stress free as possible:
Decide if the move will be permanent or temporary: If there s a possibility that you ll move back into
a house within a year or two, decide if you want to put unneeded items in a storage unit or if you want
to sell them off. You won t need a snow blower, lawn mower, or weed trimmer at your new apartment,
You may be able to make some extra pocket money if you sell them now, but make sure you do
research how much it will cost to replace everything after you ve moved back to a house with its own

You can get rid of the assorted pieces that you thought you needed to fill an empty space. Don t wait
until the week before your move to begin sorting your belongings. Instead, start as soon as you ve
decided to move. Take an inventory of everything, then divide it all into lists of things to be thrown
out, sold, donated, or taking to your new apartment. If you haven t used an item in a year, you
probably won t use it next year. Disposing of it will give you a feeling of relief as you pare down your
possessions to only what you truly want and need.
Help your children deal with the stress: If you approach the move as a new family adventure, it will
help everyone to get excited about the transition. Make sure your children know about the kid friendly
features of your new community. Younger children will enjoy a tour of the on site playground, the
swimming pool, while teens may be interested in the exercise room, or using the clubhouse for future
parties.
Reduce anxiety about your decision: If you re feeling a bit apprehensive about making the switch from
a house to an apartment, make a list of all the benefits you ll enjoy at the new place. Write down all
the burdensome chores that will be a thing of the past as you enjoy apartment living. You won t have
to spend your spare time mowing the

The War Of The British Army
In 1775, America attacked its Mother Country in war. But Why? The Prime Minister of England,
George Grenville, issued many laws that taxed the colonist for almost everything they bought or sold.
The pastors and speakers of this era saw that they were being treated unfairly by their Mother Country
and took a stand against it. These men of God spoke out against mistreatment and the unjust laws that
had been placed on them. But how significant was the impact made by pastors and speakers on the
people that heard their messages? If we look at history, we see ragtag groups of patriots fighting the
British Army in what seems like an unfair fight. What inspired these men to stand and fight? I believe
it was the influence of pastors and speakers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some of Clark s men escorted John Hancock and Sam Adams away from the battle, saving their lives.

8 Stages of Psychosocial Dilemmas
In Dr. Eric Erikson s 8 Stages of Psychosocial Dilemmas he stated that conflict between personal

The Negotiation Of Watkins s ( 2002 ) Framework
The following discussion will describe and analyse the negotiation utilising Watkins s (2002)
framework. This framework was chosen because it covers both the key tasks involved in the
negotiation process and separates these into preparation (away from the table) and execution (at the
table) situations. This is both an intuitive and holistic approach for reviewing a negotiation process.
Away from the Table At the Table Diagnosing the situation Analyse the structure of the negotiation
and develop hypotheses about counterparts interests and alternatives. Learn in order to test and hone
your hypotheses. Shaping the structure Shape who participates and how current negotiations are
linked to others. Work to set the agenda and frame what is at stake. Managing the process Plan how to
learn and influence counterparts perceptions of the bargaining range. Influence counterparts
perceptions of what is acceptable. Assessing the results Establish goals before going to the table.
Between sessions, evaluate how you are doing. Periodically assess what is happening so you can make
midcourse corrections. (Source: Watkins, 2002 p.29) Watkins (2002) argues that it is short sighted to
focus only on what happens at the negotiating table. The preparation undertaken away from the table
is critical for setting the platform for the negotiating session (Watkins, 2002; Falcao, 2012). Therefore,
it is critical to analyse the context, process, planning and other activities that occur away from the

Platelets Play a Large Role in Tissue Regeneration and...
Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes
and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a
much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells.
On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer
associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact
directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide
palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined
to the primary tumor site. They escort tumor cells helping their intravasation, vascular migration and
extravasation to the tissues forming distant metastasis.
As expected, non specific or specific inhibition of platelets and their contents represents an attractive
approach in the fight against cancer.
The current review illustrates the role played by the platelets at primary tumor sites and in the various
stages of the metastatic process.

Her secret to staying beautiful? She says she feels her best when she s healthy and strong. She needed
to start taking care of herself during the early years in her acting career when an agent told her shewas

Bob thought that the parcel of land would be large enough to build a shopping center with as much as

payment to lease the parcel of land for the expected 20 year life of the project.
Bob thought the amount retailers in the shopping center would be willing to pay per square meter of
floor space would be a decreasing function of the total size of the shopping center. Bob did some
initial work estimating the likely relationship between what tenants would be willing to pay for retail
space and the size of the shopping center. Specifically, he thought there was a 50% chance the true
relationship would be: r = 60 0.001s and a 50% chance that the true relationship would be r = 50

center in square meters. Furthermore, Bob was going to assume that once the shopping center had
been built, the realized relationship between r and s would remain unchanged for the next 20 years.
Bob was planning to ignore discount rates and the time value of money in his initial evaluation of the
project. He was going to treat all of the project s costs and benefits equally no matter when they
occurred in the life of the project; that is, he was going to treat a $1 cost incurred (or

Jargon it discusses the merge between the Arby s and Buffalo Wild Wings franchises. Through this
integrated system this would target more consumers with the different styled dining of either a casual

Wings for 157 dollars per share in cash which is valued at 2.9 billion dollars. The agreement
represents a premium of approximately 38% to Buffalo Wild Wings thirty day volume weighted
average stock price as of November 13, 2017. This is a very interesting concept because it is unusual
to merge a fast food dining style with a casual dining style. The theory is that this will expand the

Thus, the question of whether or not, the loss suffered by a plaintiff was too remote to be recoverable,
was determined by asking whether the loss was a direct consequence of the negligence of the
defendant.
The basic element of this case was that the consequences of the worker s act were unforeseeable by
any reasonable person and therefore the question that arose was about whether suitable justice was
provided in holding him responsible for the consequences of the act. At that point, under the law, it
was held that, irrespective of whether the act was foreseeable or not, he was still liable as the burning

Ecosystem Response Paper
Ecosystem services are defined as the direct and indirect benefits to human well being that are derived
from ecosystems and ecosystem function (Gomez Baggethun and Barton 2013, TEEB 2011), or in
other words, the conditions and processes through which natural ecosystems, and the species that
make them up, sustain and fulfill human life (Daily, 1997, p. 3). The ecosystem service framework

In this paper we define such urban landscape as urban coastal fringe. Modeling of the urban coastal
fringe is inherently more complex and nuanced, but in the end may provide a more robust means for
directing goal setting, urban planning, as well as conservation and restoration efforts. There are
several existing ecosystem service models and valuation tools (See Drakou et al. 2014 for review).
Drakou et al. categorize the existing tools into three broad categories, including data cataloguers,
toolkits that allow one to model ecosystem service flows for a site, and a combination of both that are
custom for specific region. Recent efforts have resulted in the development of several models that
assess the impact of development on service flow, including the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem

Richmond Memorial Hospital. To do so, one must begin at the beginning.....
The use of financial incentives (financial rewards) paid to workers whose production exceeds some
predetermined standard was popularized by Frederick
Taylor in the late 1800s. As a supervisory employee of the Midvale Steel
Company, he had become concerned with what he called quot;systematic soldiering quot;.

be quot;acting quot; at the same time. In hospital settings, especially those that are undergoing
restructuring needs are highly varied. The same employee who is driven by a salary motivator may
now be driven by a long term security need as a motivator
(REFERENCES??).
Many times, if one is given a bonus for a job well done, the money is not the motivator, but the
recognition is. Initial motivation can occur with the use of bonus or profit sharing. However since
bonuses and other such incentive compensations occur perhaps as little as once a year, there must be
other motivators at work to get an individual to work towards established goals. This is an important
concept which must be understood in order to have any incentive compensation system work for the
company and individuals (REFERENCES???).
Implementing pay for performance plans, good management, and incentive plans will motivate
personnel to perform at the peak levels necessary to bring about improvement in the bottom line
which is what interests most corporations
(REFERENCE?).
With flatter organizations, and in most cases fewer employees, companies need to motivate their
remaining employees to make a value added contribution, take ownership, and be held accountable for

  • 2. Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis Essay Western culture has often misperceived the east and the way that their society functions. In Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis, Satrapi uses graphic novels as a way to demonstrate to the western culture how the east has been misrepresented. The use of media helps to depict to the west how their views of the east may have been unfairly formed in the past. The media has only revealed limited knowledge that only shows partial perspectives because it is difficult to get perspectives of the minorities although they are the ones who hold the most truth. In other words the use of graphic novels and a child s perspective give the west a new idea on how it is that society in the east functions. This style of writing brings the connection between the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [of the] so called other by giving the reader the freedom to perceive the events of the revolution as they wish and not reconsider the way that they once understood the people of the east to be (Darda 34). Satrapi is using her experience and graphic novels to show what her experience as a child was, she does not claim at any point to be telling the entire story of the revolution she is merely introducing a new perspective which up until that point had not been seen in the western countries. The concept of making the hidden visible allows the reader to understand the Israeli revolution in a way that is has not been viewed before (Chute 106). Through the strategic use of graphic novels it demonstrates the way that she experienced it first hand without the interruption of western style media. Graphic novels take away any assumptions that you may make about the revolution while reading it because you have the image right in front of you and there is no way for it to be misinterpreted. Due to the large impact that media has on the viewpoints and ideas of western citizens the westerns perspective of what is true and what doesn t exist has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Influence of Celebrities Essay Have you ever wondered what influences us to behave the way we do? Look a certain way? Or even looked for an explanation to what causes us to apply a certain perspective regarding personal and controversial issues? One of the answers to these questions may revolve around the influence we absorb from celebrities. A definitive term for celebrity is an iconic figure to a category or group who has achieved success in one or multiple aspects of their lives. As a result, these individuals have drawn in publicity and fame. Over the years with the advances in media and other forms of communication, celebrities have become topics of discussion worldwide, rather if it s at school, with colleagues or at the dinner table, it is fair to say that ... Even after claiming his song to be number one on iTunes, he continues to produce music, and selling out tickets for his concerts and tours to date. Along with bringing home quite a luxurious paycheck, his name and face have been seen on merchandise, billboards, and other public displays. Wiz Khalifa has made it clear through his music that he has a strong passion towards smoking pot, as someone who is in the public eye, he has confidently expressed being high as strength through his music. With this being said, he has definitely rallied up a fan base of stoners who are quite admirable of his lifestyle. As a firm believer to the idea that celebrities influence our lifestyles, Beyoncé personally, has significantly influenced me. Growing up, Beyoncé has been a role model since I was very young and still continues to live up to that standard today. She is considered to be a VERY mainstream artist and entertainer. What inspires me about her is the genuine quality in her work, which she produces. She is undeniably talented and over a long period of time she has been able to sustain excellent work ethics and authentic passion in everything she does. • 4. The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Character Analysis Even though we may not realize it, the environments we live in have a big effect on our personality and character. People are reflections of the interactions they make with the people and institutions surrounding them, and when this is changed the people themselves change too. This is prevalent in both The Lord of The Flies by William Goldberg and The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong by Tim O brien, as both stories cause the characters introduced in their isolated settings to adapt in a way that reflect their new surroundings. These characters start out as normal individuals, but as time passes, they accustom themselves to the new circumstances they face. As demonstrated by Mary Anne from The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong and Jack from The Lord of the Flies a severe change in environment results in an extreme, yet gradual change in character, and goals which are marked by symbols used ... When Mary Anne first comes to Vietnam, she is depicted as a stereotypical cute blonde and blue eyed American girl, with a bubbly personality and a sense of curiosity. At this point she hasn t been exposed to the current state of Vietnam, and all she knows is her home, the United States. Her personality and goals reflect the environment she has been living in for the majority of her life and the interactions she has with others. This is similar to how Jack is near the beginning of The Lord Of the Flies as he is depicted as a chapter chorister and head boy. Jack is shown to be a character who is a arrogant and authoritative, yet innocent and civilized. He has a mutual respect for Ralph who is also another born leader , who have a common understanding of what needs to be done on the island to ensure a working society: a rescue fire and hunting. CAPABILITY IS FORMED BY THE INTEGRATION OF RESOURCES Table I shows that competitive advantage is gained by the strategic deployment of some resources, capabilities, and/or competencies. Literature review suggests that concepts such as resources, capabilities, competencies, and core competencies are not clearly defined. We have found that only the resource itself is defined with a wide range of meanings. On one hand, resources are defined as anything which could be thought of as a strength or weakness of a firm [9]. This anything may include physical resources (e.g., raw materials, equipment, financial endowment, etc.), human resources (e.g., training, experience, skills, etc.), as well as organizational resources (e.g., firm image, process, routines, etc.) [4], [14]. Note that with this definition, capabilities are considered as part of resource. On the other hand, capabilities are not part of resource because of their dynamic doing nature. Many authors argue that capabilities are the result of resource deployment and organizational processes. Capabilities use resources and, therefore, are more dynamic and complex entity and should be treated independent to resources [15]. Probably not, because that is not where they re expected to be. We live in a world where colonies of different colored people are expected, or otherwise discriminated into populating distinct spaces; African Americans are supposed to be in the ghetto, Chinese belong in Chinatown, and Caucasians reserve more elite communities. For centuries, each race has been striving to belong in a society where people are accepted as equals and certain jobs are not handed out to favored ethnicities. • 11. Another City Short Story More Than Los Angeles In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city. Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors, actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past. When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air, impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze through the door. • 12. Customization Of Firearms From what I ve gathered out of this article is simply the following: Customization isn t something that can only be obtained by modernized sporting rifles(Bolt Guns and AR s). With a few rather simplistic steps any Gunsmith can tailor an old shotgun(smoothbore and rifled) to fit a specific shooter in some pretty ingenious ways. First would be correcting the length of pull. In my mind, I like to compare this aspect of firearms to a good compound bow, you can buy higher end ones and if the draw length is off it simply will not perform what you expect of it. The same principle applies to firearms, regardless of whether it would be a rifle or shotgun. Improper fit in this aspect will result in sub par accuracy and more importantly, it will ... The pitch is what I ll cover seeing how it was the most problematic for me. If the shooter were to draw a line that bisected the rifle from the bore to the Buttstock it would become obvious the problem with this old rifle. It simply was not anywhere in line. It would ve been four fifths of the stock were below the bisection. Meaning the recoil was pretty nasty and made follow up shots difficult. After reading this article, I ve come to the conclusion of how to fix my old fabled Mauser, one being a new stock with more of the bore being in line to the Buttstock. The second modification will be the porting of the barrel to help some of the muzzle climb. Most younger gun enthusiasts associate a ported barrel directly to a Glock. I ve personally had the same train of thought as well. The benefits of porting an old Shotgun become almost ideal for any application. Most younger folks will probably seek out porting to fit the bill of 3 Gun Comps or for use in the good old outdoors. Either way you cannot go wrong. After Joseph Smith was arrested and killed, the Mormons found haven in present day Salt Lake City. There, they created their own form of a utopian society. Both types of cells have advantages and disadvantages when being used for cell based regenerative therapies. One major difference between adult and embryonic stem cells is their different abilities in the number and type of differentiated cell types they can become. Embryonic stem cells can become all cell types of the body because they are pluripotent. Adult stem cells are thought to be limited to differentiating into different cell types of their tissue of origin (National Institutions of health, 2016). Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells. On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined to the primary tumor site. He also thought that Melon should make a one time upfront payment to lease the parcel of land for the expected 20 year life of the project. Bob thought the amount retailers in the shopping center would be willing to pay per square meter of floor space would be a decreasing function of the total size of the shopping center. Bob did some initial work estimating the likely relationship between what tenants would be willing to pay for retail space and the size of the shopping center. Specifically, he thought there was a 50% chance the true relationship would be: r = 60 0.001s and a 50% chance that the true relationship would be r = 50 0.001s where r is the rental rate per square meter of floor space and s is the total size of the shopping center in square meters. Furthermore, Bob was going to assume that once the shopping center had been built, the realized relationship between r and s would remain unchanged for the next 20 years. Bob was planning to ignore discount rates and the time value of money in his initial evaluation of the project. He was going to treat all of the project s costs and benefits equally no matter when they occurred in the life of the project; that is, he was going to treat a $1 cost incurred (or revenue ... Thus, the question of whether or not, the loss suffered by a plaintiff was too remote to be recoverable, was determined by asking whether the loss was a direct consequence of the negligence of the defendant. The basic element of this case was that the consequences of the worker s act were unforeseeable by any reasonable person and therefore the question that arose was about whether suitable justice was provided in holding him responsible for the consequences of the act. At that point, under the law, it was held that, irrespective of whether the act was foreseeable or not, he was still liable as the burning down of the ship was a direct consequence of his action. However this was changed after the decision made by the Privy Council in a particular case known as the Wagon Mound Case (1) . The ecosystem service framework may be used to assess present day function, monitor change over time, and inform future planning, conservation, and restoration to maximize the ecosystem function and services generated at multiple scales (Daily et al. 2009; Sukhdev et al. 2010). In this paper we define such urban landscape as urban coastal fringe. Modeling of the urban coastal fringe is inherently more complex and nuanced, but in the end may provide a more robust means for directing goal setting, urban planning, as well as conservation and restoration efforts. There are several existing ecosystem service models and valuation tools (See Drakou et al. 2014 for review). Drakou et al. categorize the existing tools into three broad categories, including data cataloguers, toolkits that allow one to model ecosystem service flows for a site, and a combination of both that are custom for specific region. Recent efforts have resulted in the development of several models that assess the impact of development on service flow, including the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) model and the Multi scale Integrated Models of Ecosystem Services (MIMES) model (Boumans and Costanza 2007; Nelson et al. 2009;Gomez Baggethun et al. 2010; Kareiva et al. 2011; Calvet Mir et al. 2012; Crossman et al. 2013). The key focus is the system at Richmond Memorial Hospital. To do so, one must begin at the beginning..... The use of financial incentives (financial rewards) paid to workers whose production exceeds some predetermined standard was popularized by Frederick Taylor in the late 1800s. As a supervisory employee of the Midvale Steel Company, he had become concerned with what he called quot;systematic soldiering quot;. This was the tendency of employees to work at the slowest pace possible and the fact that some of these same workers still had the energy to run home and work on their cabins, ... In hospital settings, especially those that are undergoing restructuring needs are highly varied. The same employee who is driven by a salary motivator may now be driven by a long term security need as a motivator (REFERENCES??). Many times, if one is given a bonus for a job well done, the money is not the motivator, but the recognition is. Initial motivation can occur with the use of bonus or profit sharing. However since bonuses and other such incentive compensations occur perhaps as little as once a year, there must be other motivators at work to get an individual to work towards established goals. This is an important concept which must be understood in order to have any incentive compensation system work for the company and individuals (REFERENCES???). Implementing pay for performance plans, good management, and incentive plans will motivate personnel to perform at the peak levels necessary to bring about improvement in the bottom line which is what interests most corporations (REFERENCE?). With flatter organizations, and in most cases fewer employees, companies need to motivate their remaining employees to make a value added contribution, take ownership, and be held accountable for their work (REFERENCE?).
