Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide
Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure
ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned
the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way.
Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts
that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century
Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence.
The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and
the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ...

The old woman that nurses Candide back to health after he is whipped by the Inquisition slowly
becomes a friend of Candide s and tells him that she is the daughter of Pope Urban the Tenth and the
Princess of Palestrina. (19) Popes must solemnly promise to be celibate and Pope Urban breaks his
promise by having a child. The fact that the highest figure of authority in the Catholic faith sinned by
corrupts his vow of chastity conveys the message that nobody can be completely pure and honest. At
the inn where Candide, Cunegonde, and the old woman stay while escaping punishment for killing the
Grand Inquisitor and a Jew, all of Cunegonde s riches are stolen by the reverend Franciscan friar (17)
who stayed at the inn with them. Franciscan friars make a vow to live life with nothing and this man
ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who
promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and
becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to
be full of hypocrisy as many religious authorities in Candide go against what they claim to believe

Essay On Nash Argues That Civilization Created Wilderness
1. How is wilderness an idea? How could it have a history?
The idea of wilderness is a human based construct. It is highly subjective, scalable, and represents
different things to different people. Wilderness can be defined many ways, from a widely uncultivated
land, to a deeply personal experience, and anywhere in between. It depends entirely on the historical
context assigned to it by humans. To Eastern cultures, wilderness was seen as a connection between
oneself and the universe. To Western cultures, wilderness was a dangerous, uncivilized place.
Wilderness can be considered as having a history because it is history. The wilderness existed long
before the early days of humanity (in fact, the wilderness is where scientists often go when looking for
answers about various aspects of the Earth s history), but it was humanity who associated various
philosophies to the wilderness. If wilderness is a place untouched by humans, then the places touched
by humans, referred to as civilization in this assignment, must be intricately intertwined with
wilderness one cannot exist without the other.

There was no concept of wilderness before humans. Humans began in the wild. However, due to
advancements in agriculture and domestication, man was set apart from nature for the first time. This
separation between man and nature grew, to where humans began to perceive certain aspects of nature
as a dark, unknown entity of wildness , which was full of savage creatures and other unknown
dangers. These fears instigated a feeling of superiority based on a need for dominance over the
wilderness. Man lived in, and with, nature until this separation, when the concept of wilderness began.
Hence, the assertion, civilization created

Understanding Laser Shows
Attending a laser light show can be beautiful, fun, and maybe even dizzying. The audience may be
dazzled by the twisting and turning colors, but how much of the crowd actually knows how lasers
operate? Light, color, vision, and the electromagnetic spectrum can explain how lasers and the
captivating shows are possible.
In order to understand laser shows, you need to understand lasers. The first working laser was created
by Theodore Maiman, who placed a ruby rod, a fully reflective mirror on one end, a partially
reflective mirror on the other, with a high intensity lamp wrapped around the ruby rod into a cylinder
to create a laser beam. When the lamp was turned on, it excited the electrons in the ruby rod. Excited
electrons emitted photons,

Management Executive Summary
1. Executive Summary
A comfortable atmosphere provides a place where the customer can work, meet, relax or enjoy a
healthy choice of bread. Freshly brewed coffee, expresso drinks, frozen coffee drinks, specialty teas
and other beverages, along with assorted bakery, lunch and desert items make this a place to go and
relax anytime of the day.
2. Current Situation Barriers to Entry
The major barrier to entry for a specialty bakery is the perception that healthy food tastes worse than
unhealthy food. Since the population that would shop exclusively at a specialty bakery is very limited,
it would be a huge disadvantage to exclude the general population based on this negative public
perception. Capital requirements would also be a barrier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Vaclav Havel s The Power Of The Powerless
The dictatorships of Eastern Europe significantly contrasted the classical dictatorship. In Vaclav Havel
s The Power of the Powerless, the idea of the post totalitarian system is used to distinguish the
dictatorships of Eastern Europe from classical dictatorships on the bases of: its verified historical
roots, lack of social distinction of the ruling, open wielding of power, and reliance on ideology . The
post totalitarian system fell victim to the use of ideology as a power source founded in lies and
modifications of reality. The threat truth posed to the post totalitarian system highlighted its fragile
dependency on ideology as a source of manipulative power and falsehoods that allowed mankind to
cope with its departure from humanity. Ideology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Havel explains that the primary excusatory function of ideology was to provide people with the
illusion that the system was in harmony with human order and the order of the universe . It is because
of this that the post totalitarian system was so deeply rooted in lies. It had to falsify the past, the
present and the future to give the illusion that its goals were aligned with those of mankind, although
its true goals were in the name of self service. Individuals may not have necessarily believed these
lies, but they behaved as if they did. This means they had to live within a lie and accept their place in
it. Doing this confirmed the system thereby giving it more power. Those who accepted the ideological
excuses of the system too constituted its power by becoming an active component of that power. This
resulted in the system s power gradually relating more to ideology than to reality, thereby becoming
entirely dependent on deceptions. The structure of the system was sustained and held together through
the power created from the lies and excuses provided by ideology. It supplied rules and regulations for
its subordinates and integrated communication by guaranteeing the inner coherence of the power
structure . Here it can be seen that the presence of truth, would have been an undoing element to the
functioning of the

Athletic Scholarships Essay
Athletic Scholarships
There are many good athletes in professional sports today. There are many good athletes in college
sports today also. Some of the biggest names in sports are Mark McGwire, Steve Young, Michael
Jordan, Allen Iverson, and so on. Now, imagine if all of those players never made it to the pros. What
would happen to professional sports? Why are they in the pros now? To make it into professional
sports you need more than just talent. You need opportunity. College scholarships not only give
athletes the opportunity to reach the professional ranks, but also give the chance for many players to
earn a degree in higher education. Many people dream of being a professional athlete. Some people
make it a reality, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After it s done baking, the final product is a delicious cake. The cake can t be complete without it
being baked. There can not be a missed step in the process. Could Mark McGwire have made it to the
pros without attending The University of Southern California(USC) on an athletic scholarship or
Michael Jordan without attending North Carolina, Allen Iverson without attending Georgetown
University, or Steve Young without attending Brigham Young University? To earn a spot on a roster,
you can not miss a step in the process of getting there. A college scholarship is a giant step. Along
with college scholarships being a step to making it into professional sports, it is also many times the
only way for some people to earn a college degree. College is very expensive and can many times run
young adults into a large debt once out of college. For example, USC can cost up to $25,000 a year to
attend. That includes tuition, books, parking, room, and board. At the end of a 4 year term at USC, the
total comes out to about $100,000. That $100,000 is excluding other living expenses such as gas, car
payment, car insurance, clothing, and general spending money. Not only is that figure contained to
USC but can be easily applied to Georgetown, Brigham Young and The University of North Carolina.
That s a very expensive education and not everybody has the luxury of spending that much money.

Analysis Of Veve And El Nino
Veve and El Niño are two very different, yet similar foreign films that discuss the dealing of drugs in
order to progress in society in each of the character s own individual way. Veve, directed by Simon
Mukali, depicts a story that takes place in Kenya and involves the lives of many who are trying to
discover themselves in a world of corruption, revenge, and love. This drama packed film illustrates the
numerous problems that are occurring within Kenya in regards to the affects and economic importance
of veve, which is a drug also known as khat. Although the film s native language is mainly in Swahili,
the director s cinematography and style allows the audience to get a basic understanding of the
problems portrayed in this film. El Niño, a Spanish film directed by Daniel Monzón, depicts a thrilling
movie of two teenage boys who enter the drug trafficking world to better their lives financially, and
two police officers wanting to eradicate a drug trafficking network. This action packed crime film
demonstrates the drug problems that are currently happening with Strait of Gibraltar. Although both
these films were created in two different places, they share the same underlying plot. However, in
order to understand the meanings of these two films, it is important to analyze and dive into the deeper
meaning of this film as it relates to the notion of space through the concepts of mobility and gender.

How To Improve Lilly s Literacy Skills
Based on Lilly s weaknesses I would focus on several skills for her to improve her literacy skills. The
first strategy I would focus on Lilly would be with phonics, she struggles with her long vowels such as
long a, long o, and long i. One way to expose Lilly to long vowels would be with the use of sight
words containing the long vowels she struggles with. Exposing those words for Lilly to hear and
visually see would be very beneficial for her because she would be able to see and hear the word at the
same time. Another method for Lilly to learn her long vowels would be with an activity called Long A
Matching Puzzle , the child will be given cut cut outs in which they will have to match the pictures to
the correct long a spelling. For example, one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This activity is great because Lilly will have to look at the picture, identify it by its proper name and
by doing so she will pronounce it allowing her to focus on the sound of the word. By focusing on the
sound and spelling of the word she will begin to recognize the long a vowel for each picture. The same
activity would be used with long vowels i and o, for example she would get a set of cut outs that she
will need to match in the same manner as the previous activity but this time she would be given an
image of a boat, bone, coat, cold for long vowel o. The same activity would also be used with long
vowel i, with images representing a pie, light, night, knight, tie, kite, fight, in which she would have to
match with the correct long i vowel . Since Lilly had several weaknesses such as lack of
motivation/engagement, skipping words, and not achieving fluency I would love to provide her with
an interactive shared reading to improve her weaknesses. An interactive shared reading experience is a
great strategy to encourage the student to join in/share the reading with a book while the student is
guided and supported by the teacher. With an interactive shared reading, I will be able to model

Science is the bedrock of modern civilization. With it the fantasies of yesteryears are becoming
realities. The world is changing and advancing at a stupendous rate. Every day new frontiers of the
unknown and unimagined are opening up and new mysteries are being unravelled. It is the lure of
such a challenge that draws me to scientific research and that is the reason I am seeking admission at
the University of Texas Arlington, for a M.S in Management Information Systems commencing Fall
2016. As a Statement of Purpose of my graduate study, I would like to describe my academic and
professional background, area of interest and career goals. It was in the department of Computer
Science and Engineering at Malla Reddy Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, one of India

Science burgeoned. In the field of Computer Science and Engineering, my area of interest is Database
Management systems, Programming Languages and Design and Implementation of Testing
Methodologies. I possess strong conceptual knowledge of Operating Systems, Database Management
Systems and Programming Languages. Programming languages have given me the milieu to put

Persuasive Essay About Chocolate
There is no doubt that chocolate has become one of the most favorite food types and flavors in the
world. Chocolates come in different shapes and they are popular for different holidays, such as
chocolate bunnies and eggs on Easter, chocolate coins on Hanukkah, Santa Claus and other holiday
symbols on Christmas, and hearts on Valentine s Day. In this essay, I will explain how you can make
your own chocolate Easter eggs in your home. Equipment and preparation part is the most crucial part.
Go to craft store and pick up your favorite Easter egg molds (molds are usually made from plastic or
silicone, not expensive), then follow these steps to make a delicious and decorative chocolate Easter
eggs.
In your first step, you should melt your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, pour the melted chocolate into a mold and work quickly. Use a teaspoon to spread your
chocolate both sides of the mold.
After that, you should close the mold so the edges join, you can use clips. Shake to coat on both sides,
then turn it over and put aside until set. By doing this, chocolate setting only on one of the sides can be
prevented. Put your molds in fridge until they harden enough, it will be around 5 10 mins. After that,
you can remove the eggs from the mold easily. Gently press the top and bottom of the mold to release
the egg. Make sure the press each side one at a time.
Now your chocolate eggs are ready to eat, but we have one more step to complete this process. This is
the funniest part of making Easter chocolate eggs: time to use your imagination. However, you need to
follow some steps in this part also.
To decorate the eggs, place the egg in a glass or small cup and use as a stand. You can label the eggs
with the process called piping. To pipe the eggs, fold a permanent paper in the shape of a cone, and fill
the inside with melted white chocolate (or any other color you wish). Write your custom or desired
messages, or paint your favorite shapes onto the eggs. You can also add white chocolate into the mold
before any of the steps above, to give the eggs zebra like patterns for additional decoration.
If you need more creative and sweet ideas, you can watch some videos on YouTube.

Reflective Essay For Journalism
I selected journalism as my elective for this year because I wanted to continue the journalism career
that I began in middle school since it allowed me to write about topics that grasped my interest and
passion aside from writing required essays in a classroom setting. In addition, I believed that this
course would allow me to improve my writing skills by learning the ethical, grammatical, and
organizational concepts relating to journalism, such as the code of ethics, the inverted pyramid, and
the editorial hierarchy. I also hoped for the course to help me with responsibility and time
management since I knew I would have to write articles and have other loads of works from other
classes. Not to mention, journalism has allowed me to be motivated to write an outstanding article not
for the grade, but for the sole purpose to make the article right. In middle school journalism was an
extracurricular activity and this year I was graded on my personal interests, my time management, and
my writing quality rather than on the actual learning of a subject. This course has challenged me to
write outstanding pieces of work based on my motivation and time management as well without as
many guidelines and structure given. It also made me a lot more confident since it requires interaction
outside of class to acquire sources for articles. Thus, through reporting I able to establish a rapport
with people and build a network. Overall, this course had helped me become a people person,

Pros And Cons Of School Shootings
School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today s society. Schools have added lockdown
drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a safe area for children to learn instead
of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much
easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about
securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep children
and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents thought that he had been acting
very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said goodbye and let their son go to school.
It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a pistol and shotgun
used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through the halls for their son, their ears
echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms. Following the gunshot, they rushed into the
classroom and immediately disarmed and physically detained their son until police arrived. The only
damages the son had caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to the
school even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer.
It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and students with two
firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when they did because many of people
could have been hurt or even worse murdered. Obviously, the child that brought the two firearms to
school should be the one punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not have a weapon
that could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. If parents are going to
carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a child from doing wrong with
that firearm? Leaving firearms unlocked with any aged child around, hoping they don t touch it is a
dangerous and irresponsible act.
When school shootings occur, the individual that brings the weapon to school should be the one
punished. However, when the parents irresponsibly leave a firearm unlocked they should face a
punishment as well. 68% of school

not the person s real name, but when we think about what a genie is, a genie is a creature that comes
out of a bottle or whatever, but emerges into human society past childhood. We assume that it really

If she could not, it would indicate that Lenneberg s theory was correct. * Despite scoring at the level
of a one year old upon her initial assessment, Genie quickly began adding new words to her
vocabulary. She started by learning single words and eventually began putting two words together
much the way young children do. Curtiss began to feel that Genie would be fully capable of acquiring

children going through normal language development, this stage is followed by what is known as a

stage and she appeared unable to apply grammatical rules and use language in a meaningful way. *
Although she did learn to talk, her inability to use grammar (which Chomsky suggests is what
separates human language from animal communication) offers evidence for the critical period
hypothesis. * However there were other factors to consider in Genie s case. Not only did she miss the

less sense of healthy autonomy. These children will connive for equal power shared between him/her
and myself. Time will be wasted here and more effort will be needed to achieve a zero sum game.

Dean Bond Fleming Research Paper
Dean Bond Fleming was a teacher, minister, and philosopher in Oxford College of Emory University.
An active member in the Oxford community, Dean Bond Fleming was significant because he
incorporated Oxford College into Emory University, redesigned the Oxford campus, altered
recruitment efforts, and inspired Oxford students. Similar to Dean Bond Fleming, I plan to get
involved in campus activities; including clubs like Chemox, Circle K, and Volunteer Oxford because I
want to make the Oxford community better. Although Dean Bond Fleming did pass away at the age of
ninety nine, his legacy in the Oxford College community will live on. An active member in the Oxford
community, Dean Bond Fleming was an alumni of Emory and Candler School of Theology. Motivated
to create strong bonds between Oxford College and Emory University, he was able to build this link
under his administration. Additionally, he integrated a new library, gymnasiums, and a commonplace
for students. Furthermore, he altered recruitment efforts by referring to Oxford students as those who
continue to Emory, rather than as transfer students. Similarly, he inspired his students to build their

How Did The Black Panther Party Affect The Civil Rights...
The Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland, California in 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby
Seale. Originally intended to be a patrol force against police brutality in black communities, the Black
Panther Party came to play an important role in the later years of the civil rights movement. This was
due in large part to its Ten Point Program, which resulted in the implementation of many social
programs, including the Free Breakfast for School Children in 1969. The social programs carried out
by the Black Panther Party inspired change during the civil rights movement. The party succeeded in
achieving certain goals from their Ten Point Program, and while the Black Panther Party was
eventually disbanded in 1982, it still played a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newton and Seale recruited men from local communities to take part in police patrols. While the
patrol squads were successful in reducing the instances of police brutality against black people, it also
sparked intensified instances of police harassment against Black Panther Party members (Harris 167).
The Black Panther Party would later gain wide recognition after their protest at the California State
Capitol where Bobby Seale read the Executive Mandate Number One in 1967 (Seale 348). After
Eldridge Cleaver joined the party, he suggested they change the group s name from the Black Panther
Party for Self Defense to the Black Panther Party. Cleaver believed it was time for the party to lessen
its emphasis on self defense against police, or rather, to increase its emphasis on the other points of the
program (Harris 167). One of the most notable achievements of the Black Panther Party was their Free
Breakfast for School Children program, started in San Francisco and Oakland, California in January of
1969 (Harris 168). The Black Panther Party started several free health clinics to deal with the lack of
access to medical attention in poverty stricken communities The party also organized buses to prison
due to the extremely high number of incarcerated black people, as well as free clothing and shoe
programs for those who couldn t afford them (Harris 168). The party was able to achieve moderate
success on their fourth point. They organized and led rent strikes which resulted in tenant ownership
of buildings (Harris 171). This was in response to tenants who had previously been subjected to
inhumane living conditions and rent abuse by landlords. While the party was not able to achieve their
sixth point, they did fight against black men s involvement in wars. The party organized anti war
rallies, and encouraged minorities to

Populist Party Thesis
The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political Machines
like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional Republican and
Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this dissatisfaction, the Populist Party
was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought to transform the federal government
in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring about change that Americans wanted,
and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s government. The Populists wanted the
government to be more actively involved in the economy. Prior to this plea for reform, the American
federal government played a small role in economy; their job was to stimulate economic growth, not
to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the Populists called for higher income tax on the more
wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax endorsed by Populists was adopted after the dissipation of
the Party and is still used today. Currently, depending on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Pet Adoptions
Different Species, Similar Pain
Many would agree there isn t anything cuter than a plump, furry kitty. But apparently potential pet
owners require a bit more tugging to put things in perspective as a recent advertisement by The Shelter
Pet Project suggests. By tugging, I m referring the to the heart strings of the audience. The ad features
a somewhat large, orange cat looking into a bathroom mirror. Nothing too peculiar about that image
right? Wrong. The text of the ad, Does this fur make me look fat? is within a cloud shaped thought
bubble followed by the claim There s nothing wrong with shelter pets. Joined with the uncertainty and
sadness of the cat s reflection; the ad depends heavily on the emotional connection these thoughts ...

After multiple experiences of rejection, people can sometimes be forced to wonder what they could
change to become more desirable. The sincere nature of the message resonates emphatically.
Though the ad has a clear message, there s most always a bigger picture. Pet seekers have more than a
few choices of shelters from which to choose a family companion. There are approximately 5,000
animal shelters nationwide. The advertisement has to also ensure that when someone decides to use an
animal shelter to adopt a pet; they solicit this shelters services as opposed to its numerous competitors.
Even with the positivity the organization represents, it is very much a business with precise
organizational goals. How do you attract potential pet owners to your particular organization? You
align yourself with credible brands to hopefully gain their trust.
Beneath the cat is a blue animal scratch like affect used to display the organizations web address

Earnest Social Structure
Oscar Wilde demonstrated the complex social structure of the Victorian era of society through comedy
and satire in his play, The Importance of Being Earnest . Despite the play s title, neither male leading
characters, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff are entirely earnest. In order to secure their
engagements and protect their social standings, both create long exaggerated stories and lie about their
true identities. Wilde continues to display the faults of the Victorian upper class through characters,
Cecily Cardew and Miss Prism. Both women prove to be hopeless romantics with unrealistic
perspectives on fantasy versus reality. Based off of Prisms novel and her obvious desire to become a
romantic novelist, and Cecily s delusional writings in her diaries, Wilde is trying to convey that
essentially anyone in Victorian society may be considered a writer. When Wilde first introduces
Cecily, it becomes apparent to readers that she is bored with her current lifestyle. She shows little
interest in her lessons and a strong passion for writing in her diary. Unlike Gwendolyn, Cecily s family
background and lifestyle are significantly different than her traditional upper class London setting.
Cecily s life takes place in the much less sophisticated countryside of England with only her guardian
who she refers to as Uncle Jack and her tutor Miss Prism, who acts as a sort of motherly figure.

Horse Power Farm Video Analysis
The three videos I choose to watch were Horse Power Farm, Lakeside Orchards, and Ayotte Farm.
Horse Power Farm is located in Penobscot, Maine and owned by Paul Birdsall. The distinguishing
features are on the farm s focus for producing vegetables and timber, and relying on their horses
instead of machinery. Paul s farm is specifically a mixed practice as they do have a tractor, but draft
horses are the key component. Another unique aspect of this farm is that as Paul said, training
apprentices is the most important thing they do. Without the apprentices help, they are limited in the
amount of work they can get done. Lakeside Orchards is located in Kennebec County and is owned by
Steve and Marilyn Meyerhans. They also own The Apple Farm located in Fairfield, Maine. The
distinguishing features for these two farms are the apples and apple products produced. They also have
two farm stands, one of which is opened year round. Unlike the other two videos I watched, this

As a whole, the news article targeted their audience with each individual statistic, stressing the
significant achievement gap between white and black families. Jean Yeung and Dalton Conley, authors
of the original journal, demonstrated a thorough scientific journal, where they presented their
hypothesis, methods, and results. Making it clearly known, the authors established that they would test
the effects of both income and wealth on children, and to further differentiate the two, they would also
analyze the sources from which they acquire their wealth. To avoid confusion, they define wealth as
assets accumulated from sources other than income. These sources were individually examined to find
their respective impact on young children, and they were further categorized between liquid and
illiquid assets. Additionally, Yeung and Conley assessed the physical environment of the home,
addressing the idea that wealth and income impacts the family as a whole, which may further affect
the children and their cognitive performances. With respect to their test material, Yeung and Conley
found that the various forms of wealth have drastic effects, each of which impact each member of the
household in significant ways. Their results showed that racial disparity in wealth is considerably
larger than in family income. More specifically, it was found that a greater number of white children
lived in a household that owned both liquid and illiquid

Merida, A Modern Personification Of The Great Mother...
Mythological stories are still being used in modern era by society to understand the world and life. Its
use is noticeable on media directed towards adolescent or the younger audience. Disney is known for
basing their movies on mythological stories, but there has been a shift to how they use these stories.
Disney Princesses such as Snow white, Aurora, Belle, were a reflection to goddesses like Aphrodite, a
goddess of love, beauty and desire. Modern Princesses such as Merida, Elsa, Moana, tie to Artemis,
goddess of wilderness, virginity, and protector. Most modern princesses, specially Merida, depict the
mythological archetype, the Great Mother. David A. Leeming, author of The World of Myth, describes
the Great Mother as earth, body of nourishment, and symbol of death and rebirth. The Great Mother
represents nature and motherhood, and is an agent of rebirth or transformation. In the movie Brave,
Princess Merida is on the quest to mend her mistake of changing her mother into a bear because she
wanted to change her fate. Merida is a modern personification of the Great Mother archetype by
having a strong connection with nature, behaving as the mother of her kingdom, and going through
and influencing spiritual transformation.
Leeming states that The Great Mother is also described as Mother earth. She is connected to fertility
and has a deep connection with the environment. The movie Brave depicts Merida s connection with
nature throughout the whole story. The song playing in the

high quality care is provided. Fluctuating demographics and an upsurge in life expectancy has had

Tiananmen has had very little effect on China in 2017, but in the years following 1989, China was in
turmoil. As factions began to rise within the CCP and the thought of their lost loved ones are still fresh
in people s minds, a threat of yet another movement was growing. Fueled by their fear of revolution,
China s government unifies its members under a single mission, to eliminate and destroy all

Answer1: There are pn+3 ways to tile a strip of length n + 3, but I need to exclude the situation that all

Answer2: Base this on the position of the last tromino.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn ways to tile.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn 1 ways to tile.
If the last tromino is here (see above), there are pn 2 ways to tile.

ITS 410 Database Management
March 27, 2016 Corporate Proposal for SQL Server
ESL Inc. has tasked me with the project of finding a new database system that will better meet the
needs of their growing customer base. ESL is a large company that has been using a series of
spreadsheets and access databases, and manual records to track their business and they are currently
looking for a better way to streamline the inner workings of their business. After evaluating their
current system, it is apparent, that if a decision to move forward hadn t taken place within the next few
months, their current system would start to fail, as they are reaching capacity in memory used and
bandwidth running the various individual instances of Access on their network.
The following proposal is therefore a look into what Microsoft SQL Server 2012 has to offer to bring
the system to the level that is sufficient for their current needs, and has the potential of growing as the
company grows both internally and externally.
After spending several weeks reviewing the current system, data files, Access databases, and
evaluating the current usages and the needs for the future system, I am confident that the system that
would be most beneficial and useful in this environment is Microsoft SQL Server 2012. Microsoft
offers several editions for SQL Server 2012, and I think the most flexible, and reliable version for ESL
s environment is the

The question at hand; is it possible to design an application to record high economic value learning
tasks or insights that will allow for periodic review? Yes it is possible, yet there is a level of
complexity to design such an application.
To solve the problem the application needs to determine economic value or insight that will allow for
review the important lessons learned. Each task would need an attribute, assigned a value or a score to
identify which may be of more significance than another. To achieve the output value the application
would be dependent on key user input.
For the application to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the application is implemented it would then be tested, debugged and tested again. Once all this
is complete, documentation would be completed and any additional documentation for the application
from the user perspective would be done for deployment and maintenance of the application.
The program will be developed using object oriented programming. This decision is based on the need
for the program to have several components on the project, ease of use and time constraints. This
approach is being taken in order to minimize coupling and make maintaining the application easier.
The key components of the object oriented approach which are useful to our application are
encapsulation, class and inheritance, methods and messages, and instances and instantiation. Using
this approach a structure can be created representing classes and objects and values assigned or
inherited. It is the goal of the program to use the values from a specific lesson and rate its economic
viability. Sense our application is largely based on values derived from calculations from user input
object oriented appears the best choice. In summary the application is possible with the object oriented
approach and best practices implemented. To develop the full application it would need a small back
end database with fields that a user or rule could query based upon an economic value.

Lower Teacher Expectations And Stereotypes
Lower teacher expectations and stereotypes
Lower teacher expectations have been recognised to limit pupil s progress in education. Teachers are
not pushing ethnic minority pupil to achieve their potential. Ethnic minority groups are mostly entered
for foundation tier GCSE examinations which then restricts the grade that can be achieved (REMI).
This is through lower teacher expectations. Lower teacher expectations lead to pupils performing less
than their capabilities.
Wright (1992 p. 27 cited in Foster, Gomm and Hammersley, 1996) provides a clear example of
teachers not pushing pupil to achieve well due to the child s ethnic background.
They [White teachers] have got this way of talking to them [Asian pupil] in a really simple way...
cutting half the sentences Me no do that sort of thing... and that is not standard English. And they ve
[teachers] got this way of saying words That naughty and they miss words out and it really does seem
stupid .
This demonstrates the practices and teaching in schools. The case study relates to how ethnic
minorities may face barriers to education at school. The teacher is the one who holds power and
influences upon all the pupil in the classroom. Teachers who hold such low expectations of pupil
specifically create these. Stereotypes in which other (White) pupil in the classroom would make the
lower group feel bad about themselves. This stereotype led by the teacher would continue to spread by

The Importance Of Christianity In The Christian Worldview
One s worldview is the structure from which we view reality and make sense of life. We have all
contemplated some common questions. What is our purpose? How was the earth created? Is there
eternity? Why is there evil and suffering? The Christian worldview is consistent when responding to
these questions because of their beliefs and faith in God.
God
In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). God created all living beings
and He created man to live in His image. His creation was made in six days and on the seventh day He
rested. Before the world began, the Word was there, The Word was with God, and the Word was with
God. He was there with God in the beginning. Everything was made through him, and nothing was
made without him (John1:1 3). God is best described as the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son
(Jesus Christ who is fully God and fully man), and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons, same
substance, one God: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. As stated in Lecture 2, all three persons
were involved in the creation (Lecture 2). According to Christians, God is the sovereign creator of the
heavens and of the earth and is their ultimate reality. God s characteristics are being loving, kind,
compassionate, and forgiving. Other attributes are that he is eternal, infinite, omnipresent, omnipotent,
omniscient, immutable and incomprehensible (Lecture 2). On the sixth day of creation, God created
man. The Pinnacle of Creation

Jackson Pollock s Full Fathom Five
Jackson Pollock s painting titled Full Fathom Five reveals black and silver splatters of paint that aren t
necessarily straight. His painting includes colors such as blue, black, white and even specks of orange.
In addition, there are no figures which can be easily deciphered and the paint seems to have been
spilled all over the canvas. Thus, the painting does not display calculation or a heavy use of logic.
Instead, his creation seems to thrive off creativity and disorder. So I ask, how do we make sense of
such an unreasonable painting?
The answer can be found within the philosophical ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche introduces
to readers both the Apollonian force and the Dionysian force is his book The Birth of Tragedy. To be
specific, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under these circumstances, Jackson Pollock s painting has a sense of musicality to it that adds onto
the creative disorder. That is to say that his irrational paint splatters are almost rhythmic in the way
they were splattered onto the canvas. Friedrich Nietzsche believes that this rhythm is very significant
since it only occurs under the influence of the Dionysian force. This can be seen in the quote: The
essence of nature is now to be expressed symbolically...not the mere symbolism of the lips, face, and
speech but the whole pantomime of dancing, forcing every member into rhythmic movement, Then
the other symbolic powers suddenly press forward, particularly those of music, in rhythmics,
dynamics, and harmony (Cahn and Meskin 225). Nietzsche s quote tells us how the Dionysian force
causes a dancer to exude harmony and rhythm. As dancers under the Dionysian influence would all
dance together in unison, the paint splatters dance across the canvas in a way that makes it all come
together. For this reason, when looking at Full Fathom Five, the paint starts to resemble musical dance
rather than images or lines. However, Pollock s painting not only features motions similar to the the
art of dance. Full Fathom Five is essentially a grand mystery of indiscernible images coexisting
among one another. For example, Friedrich Nietzsche says

The Girl
Once upon a time there was a young Vietnamese girl who was beautiful and loved by everyone,
especially her grandmother. When she turned fifteen, her grandmother gave her a bright white silk Ao
Dai. It was the most elegant dress in all of Vietnam, so she wore it to school everyday. Even though
every other girl worn similar white Ao Dai s, she was given the name Little White Bride. One day
before school, her mother asked her to bring her grandmother the honeycomb cake they made the
night before, but she knew the journey would be dangerous. Her mother warned her of the hostile men
that would go to any lengths to get a girl to get into a van with them, so men in China could have
beautiful young brides. However the girl was brave, maybe a little too brave, and shrugged it off. So
she left her house with the cake and her schoolbooks and started her walk into the country. Her
grandmother lived only fifteen minutes away near the rice fields, so she didn t feel a need to rush. As
she walked past an abandoned field, a young boy who looked about the same age as her was riding up
behind her on a rickety old bike. He was coming straight towards her with a surprised look on his face.
He slowed down and said You know how dangerous it is for a girl of your age and beauty to be out
here all alone? Yes, but I m not worried, I ve only run into you so far and you don t look scary. Plus I
m already half way to my grandmother s house. Is the house with the green roof your

Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance Quote
Self reliance allows for an individual to see their own self value. Ralph Waldo Emerson has a quote
that represents this aspect of self reliance, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit
too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. Self reliance has many different
qualities including doing good and not expecting any praise because that person knows that they have
done good and that should be enough for them. Ralph Waldo Emerson s quote shows how teens and
Americans need to be self reliant and need to do great things without the final outcome for doing those
great actions only being the acknowledgment of others. By being self reliant an individual is able to be
happy knowing that they have greatness in them. It must be possessed long before it is acknowledged.
(Emerson), meaning that in order for a man to be great they need to be able to do great things without
the want of praise. Emerson also states, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit
too soon. I take this to mean that greatness is not something that can be attained instantly and that
someone needs to be self reliant before they can be considered great. Self reliance is a quality that is
hard to achieve and in Emerson s quote he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dad has taught me different lessons that show how to be a great person. Being a great person is not
something that can happen easily. One of the first steps is accepting that a person should not do great
things for the rewards that they will later receive but instead do great things just because. By doing
great things with the intention of receiving a reward that person is being selfish. Being unselfish is
another lesson that my dad would often teach me, because a great person should never be selfish.

  • 2. Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way. Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence. The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ... The old woman that nurses Candide back to health after he is whipped by the Inquisition slowly becomes a friend of Candide s and tells him that she is the daughter of Pope Urban the Tenth and the Princess of Palestrina. (19) Popes must solemnly promise to be celibate and Pope Urban breaks his promise by having a child. The fact that the highest figure of authority in the Catholic faith sinned by corrupts his vow of chastity conveys the message that nobody can be completely pure and honest. At the inn where Candide, Cunegonde, and the old woman stay while escaping punishment for killing the Grand Inquisitor and a Jew, all of Cunegonde s riches are stolen by the reverend Franciscan friar (17) who stayed at the inn with them. Franciscan friars make a vow to live life with nothing and this man ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to be full of hypocrisy as many religious authorities in Candide go against what they claim to believe ... • 3. Essay On Nash Argues That Civilization Created Wilderness 1. How is wilderness an idea? How could it have a history? The idea of wilderness is a human based construct. It is highly subjective, scalable, and represents different things to different people. Wilderness can be defined many ways, from a widely uncultivated land, to a deeply personal experience, and anywhere in between. It depends entirely on the historical context assigned to it by humans. To Eastern cultures, wilderness was seen as a connection between oneself and the universe. To Western cultures, wilderness was a dangerous, uncivilized place. Wilderness can be considered as having a history because it is history. The wilderness existed long before the early days of humanity (in fact, the wilderness is where scientists often go when looking for answers about various aspects of the Earth s history), but it was humanity who associated various philosophies to the wilderness. If wilderness is a place untouched by humans, then the places touched by humans, referred to as civilization in this assignment, must be intricately intertwined with wilderness one cannot exist without the other. 2. Nash asserts that civilization created wilderness (p. xi). What does he mean? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no concept of wilderness before humans. Humans began in the wild. However, due to advancements in agriculture and domestication, man was set apart from nature for the first time. This separation between man and nature grew, to where humans began to perceive certain aspects of nature as a dark, unknown entity of wildness , which was full of savage creatures and other unknown dangers. These fears instigated a feeling of superiority based on a need for dominance over the wilderness. Man lived in, and with, nature until this separation, when the concept of wilderness began. Hence, the assertion, civilization created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The audience may be dazzled by the twisting and turning colors, but how much of the crowd actually knows how lasers operate? Light, color, vision, and the electromagnetic spectrum can explain how lasers and the captivating shows are possible. In order to understand laser shows, you need to understand lasers. The first working laser was created by Theodore Maiman, who placed a ruby rod, a fully reflective mirror on one end, a partially reflective mirror on the other, with a high intensity lamp wrapped around the ruby rod into a cylinder to create a laser beam. When the lamp was turned on, it excited the electrons in the ruby rod. Excited electrons emitted photons, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freshly brewed coffee, expresso drinks, frozen coffee drinks, specialty teas and other beverages, along with assorted bakery, lunch and desert items make this a place to go and relax anytime of the day. 2. Current Situation Barriers to Entry The major barrier to entry for a specialty bakery is the perception that healthy food tastes worse than unhealthy food. • 6. Vaclav Havel s The Power Of The Powerless The dictatorships of Eastern Europe significantly contrasted the classical dictatorship. In Vaclav Havel s The Power of the Powerless, the idea of the post totalitarian system is used to distinguish the dictatorships of Eastern Europe from classical dictatorships on the bases of: its verified historical roots, lack of social distinction of the ruling, open wielding of power, and reliance on ideology . The post totalitarian system fell victim to the use of ideology as a power source founded in lies and modifications of reality. The threat truth posed to the post totalitarian system highlighted its fragile dependency on ideology as a source of manipulative power and falsehoods that allowed mankind to cope with its departure from humanity. Ideology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Havel explains that the primary excusatory function of ideology was to provide people with the illusion that the system was in harmony with human order and the order of the universe . It is because of this that the post totalitarian system was so deeply rooted in lies. It had to falsify the past, the present and the future to give the illusion that its goals were aligned with those of mankind, although its true goals were in the name of self service. Individuals may not have necessarily believed these lies, but they behaved as if they did. This means they had to live within a lie and accept their place in it. Doing this confirmed the system thereby giving it more power. Those who accepted the ideological excuses of the system too constituted its power by becoming an active component of that power. This resulted in the system s power gradually relating more to ideology than to reality, thereby becoming entirely dependent on deceptions. The structure of the system was sustained and held together through the power created from the lies and excuses provided by ideology. It supplied rules and regulations for its subordinates and integrated communication by guaranteeing the inner coherence of the power structure . Here it can be seen that the presence of truth, would have been an undoing element to the functioning of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the biggest names in sports are Mark McGwire, Steve Young, Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, and so on. Now, imagine if all of those players never made it to the pros. What would happen to professional sports? Why are they in the pros now? To make it into professional sports you need more than just talent. You need opportunity. To earn a spot on a roster, you can not miss a step in the process of getting there. A college scholarship is a giant step. Along with college scholarships being a step to making it into professional sports, it is also many times the only way for some people to earn a college degree. College is very expensive and can many times run young adults into a large debt once out of college. For example, USC can cost up to $25,000 a year to attend. That includes tuition, books, parking, room, and board. At the end of a 4 year term at USC, the total comes out to about $100,000. That $100,000 is excluding other living expenses such as gas, car payment, car insurance, clothing, and general spending money. Not only is that figure contained to USC but can be easily applied to Georgetown, Brigham Young and The University of North Carolina. That s a very expensive education and not everybody has the luxury of spending that much money. Many people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Veve And El Nino Veve and El Niño are two very different, yet similar foreign films that discuss the dealing of drugs in order to progress in society in each of the character s own individual way. Veve, directed by Simon Mukali, depicts a story that takes place in Kenya and involves the lives of many who are trying to discover themselves in a world of corruption, revenge, and love. This drama packed film illustrates the numerous problems that are occurring within Kenya in regards to the affects and economic importance of veve, which is a drug also known as khat. Although the film s native language is mainly in Swahili, the director s cinematography and style allows the audience to get a basic understanding of the problems portrayed in this film. El Niño, a Spanish film directed by Daniel Monzón, depicts a thrilling movie of two teenage boys who enter the drug trafficking world to better their lives financially, and two police officers wanting to eradicate a drug trafficking network. This action packed crime film demonstrates the drug problems that are currently happening with Strait of Gibraltar. Although both these films were created in two different places, they share the same underlying plot. The first strategy I would focus on Lilly would be with phonics, she struggles with her long vowels such as long a, long o, and long i. One way to expose Lilly to long vowels would be with the use of sight words containing the long vowels she struggles with. Exposing those words for Lilly to hear and visually see would be very beneficial for her because she would be able to see and hear the word at the same time. To pipe the eggs, fold a permanent paper in the shape of a cone, and fill the inside with melted white chocolate (or any other color you wish). • 14. Reflective Essay For Journalism I selected journalism as my elective for this year because I wanted to continue the journalism career that I began in middle school since it allowed me to write about topics that grasped my interest and passion aside from writing required essays in a classroom setting. In addition, I believed that this course would allow me to improve my writing skills by learning the ethical, grammatical, and organizational concepts relating to journalism, such as the code of ethics, the inverted pyramid, and the editorial hierarchy. I also hoped for the course to help me with responsibility and time management since I knew I would have to write articles and have other loads of works from other classes. Not to mention, journalism has allowed me to be motivated to write an outstanding article not for the grade, but for the sole purpose to make the article right. In middle school journalism was an extracurricular activity and this year I was graded on my personal interests, my time management, and my writing quality rather than on the actual learning of a subject. This course has challenged me to write outstanding pieces of work based on my motivation and time management as well without as many guidelines and structure given. The play originally premiered in Paris in November 1946. When it was translated into English and was produced in the US, Jean Paul Sartre, the author of the play, was accused of anti Americanism. What s ironic is that Sartre was a leading figure in Marxism. Although he embraced Marxism, he didn t join the French Communist Party. Most people think that if you embrace Marxism, that makes you a communist. Not true. You can like Marxism, but not like communism. • 16. Pros And Cons Of School Shootings School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today s society. Schools have added lockdown drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a safe area for children to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep children and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents thought that he had been acting very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said goodbye and let their son go to school. It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a pistol and shotgun used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through the halls for their son, their ears echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms. Following the gunshot, they rushed into the classroom and immediately disarmed and physically detained their son until police arrived. The only damages the son had caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to the school even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer. It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and students with two firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when they did because many of people could have been hurt or even worse murdered. Obviously, the child that brought the two firearms to school should be the one punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not have a weapon that could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. If parents are going to carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a child from doing wrong with that firearm? Leaving firearms unlocked with any aged child around, hoping they don t touch it is a dangerous and irresponsible act. When school shootings occur, the individual that brings the weapon to school should be the one punished. However, when the parents irresponsibly leave a firearm unlocked they should face a punishment as well. 68% of school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After Eldridge Cleaver joined the party, he suggested they change the group s name from the Black Panther Party for Self Defense to the Black Panther Party. Cleaver believed it was time for the party to lessen its emphasis on self defense against police, or rather, to increase its emphasis on the other points of the program (Harris 167). Tiananmen has had very little effect on China in 2017, but in the years following 1989, China was in turmoil. As factions began to rise within the CCP and the thought of their lost loved ones are still fresh in people s minds, a threat of yet another movement was growing. Fueled by their fear of revolution, China s government unifies its members under a single mission, to eliminate and destroy all information on Tiananmen. A purge begins of all documents and articles of Tiananmen. Over the decades, China has hidden and censored many articles, websites, media, etc about Tiananmen from its people and has killed many who dared to talk of the June Fourth Incident and anything else the CCP sees as undesirable. For example, in 1996 Falun Gong, a popular buddhist practice that embodies the ideals of peace, balance and harmony, grew extremely popular. Falun Gong was mainly practiced through meditation and involved peaceful practices, but the CCP feared that it would grow too popular and eventually turn into a political rival. To prevent being overthrown, the CCP punished anyone who dare to practice Falun Gong within the People s Republic of China (PRC) by beating them and torturing them. The photos of the victims of this brutal persecution caused fear to spark in the country and as a result of this terror, not one person of the 1.381 billion people that inhabit Chinese soil talk about the protests or anything that the CCP dislikes as the sword of death is always hanging precariously above their ... This approach is being taken in order to minimize coupling and make maintaining the application easier. The key components of the object oriented approach which are useful to our application are encapsulation, class and inheritance, methods and messages, and instances and instantiation. Using this approach a structure can be created representing classes and objects and values assigned or inherited. It is the goal of the program to use the values from a specific lesson and rate its economic viability. Sense our application is largely based on values derived from calculations from user input object oriented appears the best choice. In summary the application is possible with the object oriented approach and best practices implemented. • 48. The Importance Of Christianity In The Christian Worldview One s worldview is the structure from which we view reality and make sense of life. We have all contemplated some common questions. What is our purpose? How was the earth created? Is there eternity? Why is there evil and suffering? The Christian worldview is consistent when responding to these questions because of their beliefs and faith in God. God In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). God created all living beings and He created man to live in His image. His creation was made in six days and on the seventh day He rested. Before the world began, the Word was there, The Word was with God, and the Word was with God. He was there with God in the beginning. Everything was made through him, and nothing was made without him (John1:1 3). God is best described as the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ who is fully God and fully man), and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons, same substance, one God: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. As stated in Lecture 2, all three persons were involved in the creation (Lecture 2). According to Christians, God is the sovereign creator of the heavens and of the earth and is their ultimate reality. God s characteristics are being loving, kind, compassionate, and forgiving. Other attributes are that he is eternal, infinite, omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, immutable and incomprehensible (Lecture 2). On the sixth day of creation, God created man. His painting includes colors such as blue, black, white and even specks of orange. In addition, there are no figures which can be easily deciphered and the paint seems to have been spilled all over the canvas. Thus, the painting does not display calculation or a heavy use of logic. Instead, his creation seems to thrive off creativity and disorder. So I ask, how do we make sense of such an unreasonable painting? The answer can be found within the philosophical ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche introduces to readers both the Apollonian force and the Dionysian force is his book The Birth of Tragedy. To be specific, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under these circumstances, Jackson Pollock s painting has a sense of musicality to it that adds onto the creative disorder. That is to say that his irrational paint splatters are almost rhythmic in the way they were splattered onto the canvas. Friedrich Nietzsche believes that this rhythm is very significant since it only occurs under the influence of the Dionysian force. This can be seen in the quote: The essence of nature is now to be expressed symbolically...not the mere symbolism of the lips, face, and speech but the whole pantomime of dancing, forcing every member into rhythmic movement, Then the other symbolic powers suddenly press forward, particularly those of music, in rhythmics, dynamics, and harmony (Cahn and Meskin 225). Nietzsche s quote tells us how the Dionysian force causes a dancer to exude harmony and rhythm. As dancers under the Dionysian influence would all dance together in unison, the paint splatters dance across the canvas in a way that makes it all come together. For this reason, when looking at Full Fathom Five, the paint starts to resemble musical dance rather than images or lines. However, Pollock s painting not only features motions similar to the the art of dance. Full Fathom Five is essentially a grand mystery of indiscernible images coexisting among one another. Ralph Waldo Emerson has a quote that represents this aspect of self reliance, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. Self reliance has many different qualities including doing good and not expecting any praise because that person knows that they have done good and that should be enough for them. Ralph Waldo Emerson s quote shows how teens and Americans need to be self reliant and need to do great things without the final outcome for doing those great actions only being the acknowledgment of others. By being self reliant an individual is able to be happy knowing that they have greatness in them. It must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. (Emerson), meaning that in order for a man to be great they need to be able to do great things without the want of praise.
