Animal Welfare Act Research Paper
The first Animal Welfare Act was signed on August 24, 1966 by Lyndon B. Johnson. This is the only
law in the United States of America that oversees the treatment of animals in research. Although it is a
passed law, it does not stop all cruel treatment of animals. People all around the United States are still
disrespecting animals in ways they should not be. Recently, a video went viral of a man kicking a cat
in public. The 22 year old man, Andre Robinson, went to trial and pleaded not guilty. People like this
should be put in jail, not free to roam the streets, as for they might do it again. We should treat animals
the way we want to be treated. Animals are like family, they deserve to live their lives free from
suffering and exploitation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. This is an important distinction
when talking about animal rights. People often ask if animals should have rights, and quite simply, the
answer is Yes! Animals surely deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. (Animal
Rights). Every year, ten billion animals are killed for their materialistic items, such as meat. Although
at least 16 million people in the United States are vegetarian or vegan, there is still a growing
population of people who kill animals for human consumption. Also, when most Americans look at a
pig or cow, they think of meat or leather. However, when we look at a dog or cat, we don t see the
animal of its parts. We think of it as a cute pet, not of its materialistic items. However, cows, pigs, and
chickens are all thought of and treated like inanimate production units (A Dog). I realized that in the
same way that racist and sexist views allowed us to discriminate against minorities and women,
speciesism allowed us to inscribe an inferior status on animals and to regard them not as individuals,
but as objects and means to fulfill our desires (Animal Liberation). At last, we need to think more of
how we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes. The basic principle of equality does not
require equal or identical treatment; it requires equal consideration (Animal Rights). The meaning of
this is that if we cannot provide

Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide
Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure
ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned
the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way.
Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts
that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century
Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence.
The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and
the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ...

The old woman that nurses Candide back to health after he is whipped by the Inquisition slowly
becomes a friend of Candide s and tells him that she is the daughter of Pope Urban the Tenth and the
Princess of Palestrina. (19) Popes must solemnly promise to be celibate and Pope Urban breaks his
promise by having a child. The fact that the highest figure of authority in the Catholic faith sinned by
corrupts his vow of chastity conveys the message that nobody can be completely pure and honest. At
the inn where Candide, Cunegonde, and the old woman stay while escaping punishment for killing the
Grand Inquisitor and a Jew, all of Cunegonde s riches are stolen by the reverend Franciscan friar (17)
who stayed at the inn with them. Franciscan friars make a vow to live life with nothing and this man
ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who
promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and
becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to
be full of hypocrisy as many religious authorities in Candide go against what they claim to believe

Bidding Case Study
Procurement officers are the pivot of bidding. They publish bidding announcement, preparing the list
of approved suppliers, hold meeting and declare the winner. Bidding process is a best place for
corruption. No one monitors procurement officers performance. They are evaluation by their results
and whenever they run a bidding and purchase required products, they were successful. The other
point is that government employees are not fired up. When you are hired in a governmental company,
no one can fired you up. No one evaluate your performance and you will have income till the end of
your life. Whole of the process and context makes corruption opportunity. When I was working as a

Positive Reflection On Divorce
Linda is a 36 year old newly divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her parents
divorce. Due to her parents divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and agree to
each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage. These are
expressed through Linda s dislike of divorce and her desire to keep her children happy and innocent,
Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for failing . However,
Linda did admit that her mother s general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to blame for the
divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her (ex)husband has imposed,
Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by sending her children away and not
clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how to move forward in her life, and is
hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result, Linda is very confused and mildly
frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories and previous feelings about parents
divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings currently.
In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of
empathetic silences and positive reflection.
An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less supportive
and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said:
On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you, like
her would be there for you...? (17:58). Linda response was Yeah, he was pretty great, and we just
talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids . Later in the practice (7:08) after the
client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her As you said, you ve been through something
similar, did you pick up an activities that helped? in response she talked about drawing and about her
friends being supportive. I used empathetic silences regularly throughout the practice, especially in the
beginning of the video from 00:41 3:33 where I allowed the client to talk introduce her original reason
for coming, and again at 10:00 to 10:50,

The Case Of Augustus s True Message
Art is often used in propaganda regimes in order to convey a certain message. Many times that
message is clear. However, in the case of Augustus, is his message straightforward? Was he telling
people that he was a brave and godlike man with the Prima Porta? Or would he rather be known as the
humble pontifex maximus? Or rather a man who works in conjunction with his family and the senate
as seen in the Ara Picas Augustae? Certainly these different characteristics make it hard to pin point
Augustus s true message. What was Augustus really trying to say? Why keep himself young and
idealized even as he aged? Why did he make divine symbols subtle? If he wanted the Roman
population to view him as a god couldn t he just force everyone to worship him? Well that would
probably work in a world where assassination wasn t an option. But, then again, was Augustus really
the mastermind behind the propaganda? Maybe it was all Livia.
The Prima Porta Speaking of Livia, she was he owner of the Prima Porta, an idealized statue of a
young Augustus. She had it displayed in her villa, from which the statue got its name. It is believed
that The statue, probably carved after Augustus death, may be a copy of an earlier bronze statue put up
in a public space, made soon after his victory over the Parthians in 20 B.C. Let s look first at what the
original statue, if there was one, would have meant for Augustus s propaganda. Certain features of the
statue such as his bare feet indicate that

The Law Of The Old Testament Essay
Many people, even if they are not very religious, are concerned about what is heaven, and if they are
going to heaven. They want to know how to know God and how to be right with God, so that they do
go to heaven. Let s discuss this very simply.
Actually, this is a very difficult question to answer under the LAW of the Old Testament. But it is a
very easy question to answer under grace in the New Testament. Keep in mind we shouldn t be living
under the law of the Old Testament. We are judged by our belief in the gospel, not by the law (Rom
2:16).
CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS VIEWS
There are two ways to live a God type of life. THE FIRST is focused on self (in the Bible, Paul calls
this self righteousness. This is where your focus is yourself, and you living a good life my means of
some law, standards, rules, principles, methods (Phil 3:9). Living in this type of self righteousness he
says we are ignorant of God s righteousness (Rom 10:3).
THE SECOND is to live life by in God s grace and in his gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17). This is the
gospel way, relying on the finished work of the cross of Jesus.
WHAT IS LAW IN THE BIBLE?
The first way I just described is the way of the Old Testament, which was a system of law. Everyone
who lived by this system failed (Rom 3:10). Not one single person was able to live in this type of
arrangement (Acts 15:10).
By the time Jesus came there were close to 700 laws to follow. Earlier, when Moses brought the law
in, there were only 10

CASE ANALYSIS
The MOVE Disaster
Jack H. Nagel
Quality leadership is a telling sign of a successful organization. When given the opportunity to guide
or direct others, a leader is capable of drawing individuals or groups together to accomplish certain
goals. Given the responsibility to address a problem that had developed over a span of many months
concerning a cult (an unorthodox or misguided group of extremist) called MOVE, newly elected
Philadelphia Mayor, Wilson Goode did not exercise his authority as the elected leader by working
meticulously with the other city officials and offices to shut down MOVE operations and protect the
city s residents from their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes the very qualities that make a leader successful in one situation can impede his ability to
rationally handle other situations. Understanding the reasoning behind why certain people make
certain decisions in certain situations will never be cut and dry because when viewed through a
psychological viewpoint, knowing the humanistic characteristics affecting decision making is
important in getting a clearer picture. Personally, I would have asked for counsel from the closest of
my working city officials and even someone higher up whom I knew and trusted. I am not expected,
as a human being, to have all the answers but I can make rational choices given the possible outcomes.
In becoming familiar now with the events surrounding the MOVE disaster, I as a future public
administrator, can possibly recognize more easily when difficult situations may call for psychology
and human relations understanding. This knowledge is a necessity for me personally as a mode of self
critique, and for others in positions of leadership and authority that I may work closely with who may
find themselves trapped but unable to recognize it. I consider this to be another example of
recognizing that knowledge is power and to be a successful leader, knowing how to make the

The American Holocaust And American Americans
The American Holocaust has had a major effect on the Native American people, and changed their
lives forever. It all begins with the European and Spanish invasion of North America. The European
people brought over dieses that the Native American were not exposed too and it caused deaths with in
their groups. Also the Europeans brought over more advanced weapons and were able to take over the
Native Americans, and this lead to the American Holocaust and shows the effect on the Native
American people. These historical events have been used in many Native American stories, and a
person is able to see the connections. The American Holocaust was a time that was damaging for the
Native American people. It was a time that dealt with the invasion of the Spanish and European
people. One aspect that made it a damaging time for the Native Americans, was the lack of weapons
that they had compared to the advanced technology of their enemy s. Columbus responded with
several hundred armed troops, Calvary, and a score or more of trained attack dogs (Stannard P.
13).This shows the amount of power and money that Columbus had behind him. He was able to get
what he needed to win his battles, with either swords or armor, or more attack dogs and more warriors.
One of the first discoveries of North American from Europeans was with Columbus. For America s
history, it more widely recognized Columbus, as opposed to the Native American people. This is
because the Spanish and Europeans weren t

Investigate the Behaviour of Organisations and the Market...
Introduction
In this assignment I will identify the structure of markets within the economy and explain how they
deviate from the model of perfect competition. I will also expand on which market forces dominate
the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of
competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition
commission and regulatory bodies.
Market Types
The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the
business. Competition, as described by Stigler, G (2008) arises whenever two or more parties strive
for something that all cannot obtain. Perfect competition is seen as a theoretical ideal and ... Show

Market forces
Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within
the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available
substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand
for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops
below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it.
Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease,
petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a
given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve.
(Fig 1.)
Fig 1.
It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over
simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can
best used to describe this method of analysis.
Non price factors affecting demand
Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although
price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography
can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. People s income can also affect their
purchasing habits, often increasing their

Pruriceptive Itch
For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin. But
most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an itch
can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a patient
with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her scalp in
response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one unfortunate morning
she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital she was immediately
admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull and into her brain
(Gawande).
Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation), neuropathic
(chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without stimulus), and
psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be triggered by
stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such as histamines
which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks).
It is easy to think that the need to itch is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors also make the important observation that pain has the ability to suppress itch which is
shown when the mechanical pain of a scratch masks an itch, but never see an itchy sensation relive
pain (Sun). This led the authors to believe that pain and itch have common neuronal paths but
somehow our CNS is able to distinguish these sensations. Their new selectivity theory claims that itch
stimuli are itch neuron specific while painful stimuli activates a wide range of neurons that ultimately
inhibits the itch sensation while producing the pain

The Sculpture Plunge Created By Artist Robert Smithson
The sculpture Plunge created in 1966, by artist Robert Smithson, currently located at the Denver Art
Museum in Denver, Colorado. It is a symmetrical, non objective piece made from a black or dark gray
colored steel. Of which cubes are stacked in a stepping motion of four steps, in a repetition of ten,
aligned side by side in a series giving the illusion of depth or distance. They give a nesting and
receding illusion so they appear to slowly increase and decrease in size, appearing balanced on all
sides depending on the angle of which the viewer is seeing it. Lighting plays a factor in the appearance
and the color variance.
This sculpture has an element of motion, with every step after the first series of steps it appears to
move further away. It also has a very interesting appearance, but I am uncertain of how it makes me
feel. I am leaning towards an almost anxious feeling, the colors and the length, I am uncertain of the
sizes, they appear different, but I cannot tell, thus creating an anxiety. The multiple levels and the
length of this piece almost causes me worry, reminding me of a dream, like you are falling and you
never really reach the ground. It would also lend to the feelings of agitation for me the same reasons.
Colors in this sculpture are of a neutral hue, of blacks. Alternatively, it also appears to be a shade of
dark gray. Appearing to be of a flat or a matte finish. I am assuming the change in the colors
appearance is more due to the light reflecting on

This is an extraordinary story that gives us a boy s view of a truly traumatic experience. Using

Physiological Responses to the Human Body from Exercising...
The objective of the paper is to present the physiological responses to the human body from exercising
in the heat. It will also include acute and chronic adaptations that the body will adjust to, as well as
practices that would be best fit for athletes and coaches. Exercising in the heat plays a major role in
the field of many athletic sports to date; this includes running sports, such as Track and Field,
Football, and even marathoners long distance road racers. The main stimulus that produces an increase
in core temperature is exercise, and when it is combined with a hot environment, it adds additional
strains to the body. Exercising in the heat has positive effects as well as negative effects that could
lead to health risk if procedures are not properly followed. If an athlete or an untrained personnel does
not take precaution while in heat the risk of health could increase. When exercising in the heat initially
begins, a person may experience changes in the body such as, but not limited, to an increase in his or
her heart rate, an increase in his or her sweat rate, increase in body temperature, and dehydration.
These factors are increasing because during exercise especially in the heat the body has to rid itself of
the excessive heat being produced by the working muscles as well as from the environment. Once
sweat is produced it will cool the body and will evaporate (if in a non humid environment). Sweating
is a very important factor in releasing heat, without

Acute Respiratory Failure
Mechanical ventilation is the treatment for patients who show the sign of acute respiratory failure.
Patients would get acute respiratory distress from inadequate oxygenation or ventilation that
associated with hypoxemia without or with hypercapnia. Mechanical ventilation is used for these
patients based on when the patients partial pressure of oxygen in arterial (PaO2) is less than 50 mm
Hg and partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) greater than 50 mm Hg.1 Under normal condition,
when patients are breathing normal or spontaneous the diaphragm contracts on inhalation, moving

Welfare Spending During The United States
Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic
standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty
rates and high levels of unemployment.
As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted
to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g.
Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was
$725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.(
2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines
steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like
Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also
made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further
says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were
historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures,
(2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5)
decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective

Corrective Action for Disrespecting Higher Ranking...
This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my corrective action for
disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this essay off with defining each of the
subjects so that the reader may have a full understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject
on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to
avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second definition needed
for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional character, spirit, or
methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is the key phrase to take
from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition
needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference
to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or
privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the definition of respect given, the
last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without
respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself
in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations that
you may not understand or agree with and the

Why Is Hamlet Not To Revenge
To Revenge or Not To Revenge
Hamlet, a play written by Shakespeare, is the tragic story of young Hamlet bent on taking a bloody
revenge for the unjust murder of his late father, King Hamlet. Several times throughout the play,
Hamlet seems reluctant to carry on with his plot for revenge, and often questions why he is struggling
with this plot so much. Through Hamlet s hesitation, Shakespeare portrays that revenge may not
always be the right answer, this is then confirmed by the deaths of innocents due to Hamlet s plot for
revenge.
Polonius s death marks the first of many unnecessary deaths, and although Hamlet feels no guilt after
murdering him, the death is still unjustifiable and wrong. After Polonius has been stabbed, Hamlet
says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell!/ I took thee for thy better: take thy fortune;/ Thou
find st to be too busy is some danger (4.4.32 33). With this quote Hamlet is saying that had Polonius

when the time comes. Although Hamlet heeds this advice through nearly all of the play, he eventually
lets the Ghost down in the closing scene where Hamlet avenges his father but kills Gertrude in the
process. Although Hamlet did not directly kill Gertrude, his revenge is the fundamental reason her life
came to an end. Had Hamlet not taken a vow for revenge, Claudius would not have had to save
himself by attempting to kill Hamlet with poison, and therefore not putting anyone at risk for

Essay on The Evolution of the Art of War between 1400 and...
It can be said that the period of time between 1400 and 1600 was one of transformation. The
Renaissance revolutionized art and reintroduced Greek and Roman works to Europe. Increased
technologies and a hunger for products from the Indies led to Columbus s discovery of the Americas
in 1492 which revolutionized commerce and international trade. In 1517 a German monk named
Martin Luther listed a series of complaints against the Roman church leading to a reformation that
transformed the western church. At the same time a more obscure, though equally important
revolution was taking place, one whose effects were no less significant. The invasion of Italy by

The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat. The
armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight. During this
time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily armored cavalry,
and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this period generally
consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective the reliance on
cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be effective he required
the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and carrying its own armor
while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required training which took both
time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who were part of the nobility, they
were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of sufficient size when the need
arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their primary tactic of charging the
enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. At the battle of El Mansura during the Seventh
Crusade, retreating Muslim forces lured a group of overly eager French

each other things that Sean should be telling to another counselor instead of putting more stress on

Comparison Of Moral Arguments And Ethical Theories
How I Approach Moral Arguments and Ethical Theories The controversial moral argument that is
going to be discussed in this paper is homosexuality in relation to religious beliefs and gay marriage.
My beliefs are that this practice is morally wrong, but who am I to be the judge? The approach used to
base this reasoning on is a simple question. Does this issue affect me? If a homosexual couple has the
desire to wed, I do not see any possible reason that this would affect my livelihood. I will let God
decide if this practice is acceptable or should be punished. Logically, there is no way to determine who
is right or wrong in the argument, but it is useful to determine if the argument is good or bad (Mosser,
2011). A few premises that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My viewpoint follows the principle of deontology. There is no excuse for lying. Lying is a hurtful act
of disrespect and thus should not be done (Mosser, 2011, Ch. 5, p. 15). Once again, this belief is due to
religious beliefs that lying is wrong. The utilitarian viewpoint of lying is acceptable if it benefits the
greatest good for the greatest number of people is a weak argument. What about those people that do
not benefit? Do they not matter? I believe that everyone can contribute. Thomas Plante, Ph. D. a
professor with Santa Clara University has this to say on the subject, When it comes to making ethical
decisions we need to balance the pros and cons of using multiple approaches to ethics in order to
figure out what the right thing to do really is. Sometimes different ethical approaches conflict. When
they do, certain values or approaches must trump others. So, compassion might trump honesty on
occasion (Plante, 2011). While this viewpoint is utilitarian, there are many valid points. However, I
always believe that honesty is the best policy to save any future repercussions such as a lost
friendship, or a legal dispute. I also believe there are ways to get around lying to keep someone s
feelings from being hurt. Using such phrases as it s in God s hands, we ll see, and simply I can t tell
you are good ways to avoid the question, or to answer without 100%

The Problems Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell, Ayn Rand,...
While the use and understanding of philosophy goes widely unknown by a majority of the population
today, a selective few have recognized its potential and utilized it to its fullest. In the following essay,
three prominent philosophers; Bertrand Russell, Ayn Rand, and Christopher Hitchens. Each gives their
insight to three important topics; the value of philosophy, using philosophy and its value, and the
importance of freedom of speech. All of whom will be discussed, and agreement or disagreement will

While it is clear that Bertrand Russell wished for the continuation of the practice of philosophy, he
acknowledges most people have no idea what philosophy is, outside of the idea of a group of people
thinking about life. With this writing while giving some of the products that have come from
philosophy, he also warns that not all answers can be gained from the philosophy. While definite
answers can be gained through the sciences, philosophic study only raises more uncertainty.
Bertrand Russell supports his arguments with insight that comes from teaching, practicing, and seeing
the effects of philosophy both within himself and the people around him. While studying philosophy
Russell will only intensify the uncertainty about the world around us and the inner workings of our
mind. Likewise in support of Russell s argument, the study of sciences that is aforementioned such as;
Phycology, Astronomy, and Physics which were originally pondered by philosophers has moved from
philosophical theory to scientific study.
Likewise with the pursuit and study of philosophy, the likelihood of the student holding on to the
dogmatism, and predigests that is set forth by society and past experiences. Along with this the
aforementioned Practical Man Russell supports his argument with a description, The practical man
who recognizes only material needs, who realizes men must have food for the body, but is

Analysis Of Cyan s Sunridge Chestnut
Blaze Cyan is a detailed printmaker who works in etching. His artwork beautifully discovers the
intricate beauty of the tree. Starting out by sketching with technical pens and watercolors, Cyan
reworks his pieces until he is able to make them unique. He uses old photographs to create the
artwork, to inspire his imagination and to create new possibilities. Using the structure, shape, and
texture of trees, he creates an image with unity and diversity. Beginning with the sugar lift and
aquatint method, Cyan creates a backdrop that varies in value in the tree. After etching the first time,
hard opaque ground covers the plate, which allows Cyan to create numerous linework. Cyan uses
black and white in his pieces to emphasize the complex design and add a impressive quality to his
work. Sunridge Chesnut created in 2011, is one of Cyan s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His desire is for the viewer to appreciate not only the tree form itself, but also it s character.
Inspiration for creating his pieces come from Victorian illustrators and oriental prints. By looking at
these resources, Cyan came to the realization that no two will ever be alike. Each piece has unique
diversity that sets the individual artwork apart. Sunridge Chestnut illustrates this idea beautifully as
lines are used in different directions and the tree takes on almost a new shape of its own. One can look
at this piece for hours on end, without truly discovering the full artwork in its totality. Cyan really
desires the audience to almost be lost within the picture, continuing to look for new additions. In
Hallowed Etching, Cyan uses multiple shapes and values to support this idea. One reason why Cyan
picked trees as subject matter was because its growth is gradual over time. Even at the end of human
life, a tree will (most likely) still be in place, calmly growing. The character of every tree evolves into
something stronger, deeper, and represents a ideal that is globally

Comparing Life Of Pi And The Tyger By William Blake
Life of Pi by Yann Martel, and The Tyger by William Blake can be seen as comparable from numerous
viewpoints.
Though one is a novel and the other is a short poem, the two pieces of writing can be thoroughly
analyzed on their perspectives and themes to highlight important aspects in each.
The stories contain a similar animal theme and both question God, yet they differ in their views on
God.
A similar aspect in the two stories is the animal theme.
When Pi is trapped on a lifeboat, his only company is a Bengal Tiger. It was in this circumstance that
Pi understood the animal need for survival. Pi says of his transformation from a strict vegetarian into
someone who expected to kill to survive, that, I descended to a level of savagery I never imagined
possible. (218). Everyday, Pi felt like he was at a crucial point in his life, since he didn t know whether
he would live to see tomorrow, especially with Richard Parker on the lifeboat. This is when Pi s
animal instincts kicked in and mirrored that of the tiger s. The animal inside of him, and his survival
instincts ended up plainly evident in his battle for survival.
In the poem The Tyger , the animal theme is exhibited through the narrator s relentless questions of the
tiger. In the poem it says, What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? (23 24). This
happens to be the narrator s way of asking who would dare to create an animal so vicious and
dangerous. Throughout the poem, the speaker asks various questions about the ferocity of the creature.
Be that as it may, this is the nature of a tiger. They are wild animals that are dangerous, and act on
instinct.
In the two stories, the animal theme depicted conflicts with civilization. Pi was forced to abandon his
knowledge and behaviour from the civilized life he once led, in order to embrace his animal instincts
and survive. In The Tyger , we can see the contempt of the speaker while considering the behaviours
of the wild animal. By looking at this similar element from the two stories, it is easier to perceive how
the two cases may be seen. Pi could be looked upon like the tiger, in that they were similar in their
animal ways. Many individuals would not have the strength to do what Pi

Meta: Get ready, as it is time to go pig smashing in the latest game from Spielo. Aptly titled Smash the
Pig, will you be able to rip the reels of this new release apart in order to win big? Smash the Pig
Review Smash the Pig is a brand new slot that brings a new feel and spin to the casino slots genre.
This slot game by Spielo is not one based on glitz, glamour, and the high life, which seems to be the
common trend of the moment. Instead, it is a game that has agricultural roots, as it is based around life
on the farmyard. Considering its odd premise, eyebrows have certainly been raised, with many
questioning the legitimacy of this new game prior to release. Being as objective as possible, can this
theme actually be made into a fun game? There is only one way to find out! These little pigs went

(which it does rather quickly I must add) your eyes will be treated to bright colours all over the screen.

rather well. The reels are centre screen as per the norm with a Spielo title, while the background is ...

the buttons, which you will be using to play the game, on the bottom part of the screen. They are
menu, pays, select lines, bet per line, max bet, and spin. When you win these buttons change into

Ballet and Giselle
ART OF DANCE

Giselle is considered one of the great Romantic ballets. Romantic era was late 18th and early 19th

influence the ballets. Ballets in Romantic period focus on the conflict between man and nature where
as others try to bring difference to ballets from other nations. Ballerinas stand in the forefront
compared to male dancers. Giselle is one of the most popular ballerinas of the period and separate

There are sharp and expressive gestures. Giselle shows her feelings very clearly and doesn t hide

classical one Giselle is not dancing as close as in the contemporary one. They are more formal and
their dance is more elegant. In the contemporary one Giselle and Albrecht dance very close and they
touch each other. In one part even Giselle hugs her love as a woman. These clear expressions are not
shown in the classical Giselle. Giselle is more like an adult. She doesn t bend down when she is sad or
she doesn t jump on Albrecht like a child. She reflects the classical period s formal characteristics.
There aren t close relationships like touching her love and jumping on him.
The music is discriminative between two versions of Giselle. Compared to classical one in
contemporary ballet music is very modern. Ballerinas dance figures are compatible with the music as
well. Classical dancer Giselle dances at more extreme tempos and perform more technical feats.
However, in contemporary Giselle doesn t wear ballerina shoes and she dances barefoot. Her feats
move more naturally. Also her hand gestures alter. She doesn t bow her elbows and hands in classical
dance. She dances in an order without extreme gestures. In the contemporary one she does man
gestures, which is different than her friends as well. Her personality differs since she behaves like a

We Already Know That Self Discipline Is Important, But
We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it?
We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to
success, so why do we need self discipline?
We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to
get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less
weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general
question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals?
The general answer is: Lack of self discipline.
Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine ... Show more

The two can not be achieved in the same time, in most cases.
Our lives are full of temptations: we have TVs, good food, chocolates, video games... etc. These
temptations makes it harder for us to resist having more fun and thus we neglect the more important
goals in our lives. Almost all of us want to have a slim figure, but with these temptations around us
almost all of the time, we lose that goal of a slim figure. Almost all of us want to make more money,
but it is not easy to resist, for example, discounted travel packages. In these cases, we really need self
discipline. It will allow us to focus on our goals and pursue them until we reach success. With self
discipline, we can exercise better control on our instant wishes.
It is the difference between what you feel and what you think.
It is the borderline between your heart and your brain.
You may want to eat that pizza which was shown on a TV commercial, but your self discipline stops
you because you have a goal of weight control, and in this process it allows you to succeed in that
goal.
It is an amazing resource for success. Actually, many experts believe that it is impossible to reach
success without it. According to Lou Holtz Without self discipline, success is impossible, period.
Research shows that entrepreneurs must have it in order to succeed in business. According Jerry
Osteryoung, who had worked with 3000 leaders, he noticed that what is common among the
successful ones among them, is not their

  • 3. Animal Welfare Act Research Paper The first Animal Welfare Act was signed on August 24, 1966 by Lyndon B. Johnson. This is the only law in the United States of America that oversees the treatment of animals in research. Although it is a passed law, it does not stop all cruel treatment of animals. People all around the United States are still disrespecting animals in ways they should not be. Recently, a video went viral of a man kicking a cat in public. The 22 year old man, Andre Robinson, went to trial and pleaded not guilty. People like this should be put in jail, not free to roam the streets, as for they might do it again. We should treat animals the way we want to be treated. Animals are like family, they deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. This is an important distinction when talking about animal rights. People often ask if animals should have rights, and quite simply, the answer is Yes! Animals surely deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. (Animal Rights). Every year, ten billion animals are killed for their materialistic items, such as meat. Although at least 16 million people in the United States are vegetarian or vegan, there is still a growing population of people who kill animals for human consumption. Also, when most Americans look at a pig or cow, they think of meat or leather. However, when we look at a dog or cat, we don t see the animal of its parts. We think of it as a cute pet, not of its materialistic items. However, cows, pigs, and chickens are all thought of and treated like inanimate production units (A Dog). I realized that in the same way that racist and sexist views allowed us to discriminate against minorities and women, speciesism allowed us to inscribe an inferior status on animals and to regard them not as individuals, but as objects and means to fulfill our desires (Animal Liberation). At last, we need to think more of how we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes. The basic principle of equality does not require equal or identical treatment; it requires equal consideration (Animal Rights). The meaning of this is that if we cannot provide ... • 4. Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way. Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence. The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ... The old woman that nurses Candide back to health after he is whipped by the Inquisition slowly becomes a friend of Candide s and tells him that she is the daughter of Pope Urban the Tenth and the Princess of Palestrina. (19) Popes must solemnly promise to be celibate and Pope Urban breaks his promise by having a child. The fact that the highest figure of authority in the Catholic faith sinned by corrupts his vow of chastity conveys the message that nobody can be completely pure and honest. At the inn where Candide, Cunegonde, and the old woman stay while escaping punishment for killing the Grand Inquisitor and a Jew, all of Cunegonde s riches are stolen by the reverend Franciscan friar (17) who stayed at the inn with them. Franciscan friars make a vow to live life with nothing and this man ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to be full of hypocrisy as many religious authorities in Candide go against what they claim to believe ... Bidding process is a best place for corruption. No one monitors procurement officers performance. They are evaluation by their results and whenever they run a bidding and purchase required products, they were successful. The other point is that government employees are not fired up. When you are hired in a governmental company, no one can fired you up. No one evaluate your performance and you will have income till the end of your life. • 6. Positive Reflection On Divorce Linda is a 36 year old newly divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her parents divorce. Due to her parents divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and agree to each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage. These are expressed through Linda s dislike of divorce and her desire to keep her children happy and innocent, Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for failing . However, Linda did admit that her mother s general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to blame for the divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her (ex)husband has imposed, Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by sending her children away and not clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how to move forward in her life, and is hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result, Linda is very confused and mildly frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories and previous feelings about parents divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings currently. In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of empathetic silences and positive reflection. An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less supportive and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said: On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you, like her would be there for you...? (17:58). Linda response was Yeah, he was pretty great, and we just talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids . Later in the practice (7:08) after the client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her As you said, you ve been through something similar, did you pick up an activities that helped? in response she talked about drawing and about her friends being supportive. I used empathetic silences regularly throughout the practice, especially in the beginning of the video from 00:41 3:33 where I allowed the client to talk introduce her original reason for coming, and again at 10:00 to 10:50, ... • 7. The Case Of Augustus s True Message Art is often used in propaganda regimes in order to convey a certain message. Many times that message is clear. However, in the case of Augustus, is his message straightforward? Was he telling people that he was a brave and godlike man with the Prima Porta? Or would he rather be known as the humble pontifex maximus? Or rather a man who works in conjunction with his family and the senate as seen in the Ara Picas Augustae? Certainly these different characteristics make it hard to pin point Augustus s true message. What was Augustus really trying to say? Why keep himself young and idealized even as he aged? Why did he make divine symbols subtle? If he wanted the Roman population to view him as a god couldn t he just force everyone to worship him? Well that would probably work in a world where assassination wasn t an option. But, then again, was Augustus really the mastermind behind the propaganda? Maybe it was all Livia. The Prima Porta Speaking of Livia, she was he owner of the Prima Porta, an idealized statue of a young Augustus. She had it displayed in her villa, from which the statue got its name. It is believed that The statue, probably carved after Augustus death, may be a copy of an earlier bronze statue put up in a public space, made soon after his victory over the Parthians in 20 B.C. Let s look first at what the original statue, if there was one, would have meant for Augustus s propaganda. Certain features of the statue such as his bare feet indicate that ... • 8. The Law Of The Old Testament Essay Many people, even if they are not very religious, are concerned about what is heaven, and if they are going to heaven. They want to know how to know God and how to be right with God, so that they do go to heaven. Let s discuss this very simply. Actually, this is a very difficult question to answer under the LAW of the Old Testament. But it is a very easy question to answer under grace in the New Testament. Keep in mind we shouldn t be living under the law of the Old Testament. We are judged by our belief in the gospel, not by the law (Rom 2:16). CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS VIEWS There are two ways to live a God type of life. THE FIRST is focused on self (in the Bible, Paul calls this self righteousness. This is where your focus is yourself, and you living a good life my means of some law, standards, rules, principles, methods (Phil 3:9). Living in this type of self righteousness he says we are ignorant of God s righteousness (Rom 10:3). THE SECOND is to live life by in God s grace and in his gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17). This is the gospel way, relying on the finished work of the cross of Jesus. WHAT IS LAW IN THE BIBLE? The first way I just described is the way of the Old Testament, which was a system of law. Everyone who lived by this system failed (Rom 3:10). Not one single person was able to live in this type of arrangement (Acts 15:10). By the time Jesus came there were close to 700 laws to follow. Earlier, when Moses brought the law in, there were only 10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Foundations of Public Administration Jayson Allen PA 6610 FOUNDATIONS OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION CASE ANALYSIS The MOVE Disaster Jack H. Nagel Quality leadership is a telling sign of a successful organization. When given the opportunity to guide or direct others, a leader is capable of drawing individuals or groups together to accomplish certain goals. Given the responsibility to address a problem that had developed over a span of many months concerning a cult (an unorthodox or misguided group of extremist) called MOVE, newly elected Philadelphia Mayor, Wilson Goode did not exercise his authority as the elected leader by working meticulously with the other city officials and offices to shut down MOVE operations and protect the city s residents from their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes the very qualities that make a leader successful in one situation can impede his ability to rationally handle other situations. Understanding the reasoning behind why certain people make certain decisions in certain situations will never be cut and dry because when viewed through a psychological viewpoint, knowing the humanistic characteristics affecting decision making is important in getting a clearer picture. Personally, I would have asked for counsel from the closest of my working city officials and even someone higher up whom I knew and trusted. I am not expected, as a human being, to have all the answers but I can make rational choices given the possible outcomes. In becoming familiar now with the events surrounding the MOVE disaster, I as a future public administrator, can possibly recognize more easily when difficult situations may call for psychology and human relations understanding. This knowledge is a necessity for me personally as a mode of self critique, and for others in positions of leadership and authority that I may work closely with who may find themselves trapped but unable to recognize it. I consider this to be another example of recognizing that knowledge is power and to be a successful leader, knowing how to make the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The American Holocaust And American Americans The American Holocaust has had a major effect on the Native American people, and changed their lives forever. It all begins with the European and Spanish invasion of North America. The European people brought over dieses that the Native American were not exposed too and it caused deaths with in their groups. Also the Europeans brought over more advanced weapons and were able to take over the Native Americans, and this lead to the American Holocaust and shows the effect on the Native American people. These historical events have been used in many Native American stories, and a person is able to see the connections. The American Holocaust was a time that was damaging for the Native American people. It was a time that dealt with the invasion of the Spanish and European people. One aspect that made it a damaging time for the Native Americans, was the lack of weapons that they had compared to the advanced technology of their enemy s. Columbus responded with several hundred armed troops, Calvary, and a score or more of trained attack dogs (Stannard P. 13).This shows the amount of power and money that Columbus had behind him. He was able to get what he needed to win his battles, with either swords or armor, or more attack dogs and more warriors. One of the first discoveries of North American from Europeans was with Columbus. For America s history, it more widely recognized Columbus, as opposed to the Native American people. • 11. Investigate the Behaviour of Organisations and the Market... Introduction In this assignment I will identify the structure of markets within the economy and explain how they deviate from the model of perfect competition. I will also expand on which market forces dominate the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition commission and regulatory bodies. Market Types The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the business. Competition, as described by Stigler, G (2008) arises whenever two or more parties strive for something that all cannot obtain. Perfect competition is seen as a theoretical ideal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Market forces Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it. Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease, petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve. (Fig 1.) Fig 1. It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can best used to describe this method of analysis. Non price factors affecting demand Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. People s income can also affect their purchasing habits, often increasing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Pruriceptive Itch For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin. But most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an itch can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a patient with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her scalp in response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one unfortunate morning she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital she was immediately admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull and into her brain (Gawande). Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation), neuropathic (chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without stimulus), and psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be triggered by stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such as histamines which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks). It is easy to think that the need to itch is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors also make the important observation that pain has the ability to suppress itch which is shown when the mechanical pain of a scratch masks an itch, but never see an itchy sensation relive pain (Sun). This led the authors to believe that pain and itch have common neuronal paths but somehow our CNS is able to distinguish these sensations. Their new selectivity theory claims that itch stimuli are itch neuron specific while painful stimuli activates a wide range of neurons that ultimately inhibits the itch sensation while producing the pain ... • 13. The Sculpture Plunge Created By Artist Robert Smithson The sculpture Plunge created in 1966, by artist Robert Smithson, currently located at the Denver Art Museum in Denver, Colorado. It is a symmetrical, non objective piece made from a black or dark gray colored steel. Of which cubes are stacked in a stepping motion of four steps, in a repetition of ten, aligned side by side in a series giving the illusion of depth or distance. They give a nesting and receding illusion so they appear to slowly increase and decrease in size, appearing balanced on all sides depending on the angle of which the viewer is seeing it. Lighting plays a factor in the appearance and the color variance. This sculpture has an element of motion, with every step after the first series of steps it appears to move further away. It also has a very interesting appearance, but I am uncertain of how it makes me feel. I am leaning towards an almost anxious feeling, the colors and the length, I am uncertain of the sizes, they appear different, but I cannot tell, thus creating an anxiety. The multiple levels and the length of this piece almost causes me worry, reminding me of a dream, like you are falling and you never really reach the ground. It would also lend to the feelings of agitation for me the same reasons. Colors in this sculpture are of a neutral hue, of blacks. Alternatively, it also appears to be a shade of dark gray. Appearing to be of a flat or a matte finish. I am assuming the change in the colors appearance is more due to the light reflecting on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It will also include acute and chronic adaptations that the body will adjust to, as well as practices that would be best fit for athletes and coaches. Exercising in the heat plays a major role in the field of many athletic sports to date; this includes running sports, such as Track and Field, Football, and even marathoners long distance road racers. The main stimulus that produces an increase in core temperature is exercise, and when it is combined with a hot environment, it adds additional strains to the body. Exercising in the heat has positive effects as well as negative effects that could lead to health risk if procedures are not properly followed. If an athlete or an untrained personnel does not take precaution while in heat the risk of health could increase. When exercising in the heat initially begins, a person may experience changes in the body such as, but not limited, to an increase in his or her heart rate, an increase in his or her sweat rate, increase in body temperature, and dehydration. These factors are increasing because during exercise especially in the heat the body has to rid itself of the excessive heat being produced by the working muscles as well as from the environment. Once sweat is produced it will cool the body and will evaporate (if in a non humid environment). Sweating is a very important factor in releasing heat, without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Why Is Hamlet Not To Revenge To Revenge or Not To Revenge Hamlet, a play written by Shakespeare, is the tragic story of young Hamlet bent on taking a bloody revenge for the unjust murder of his late father, King Hamlet. Several times throughout the play, Hamlet seems reluctant to carry on with his plot for revenge, and often questions why he is struggling with this plot so much. Through Hamlet s hesitation, Shakespeare portrays that revenge may not always be the right answer, this is then confirmed by the deaths of innocents due to Hamlet s plot for revenge. Polonius s death marks the first of many unnecessary deaths, and although Hamlet feels no guilt after murdering him, the death is still unjustifiable and wrong. After Polonius has been stabbed, Hamlet says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell!/ I took thee for thy better: take thy fortune;/ Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (4.4.32 33). The Renaissance revolutionized art and reintroduced Greek and Roman works to Europe. Increased technologies and a hunger for products from the Indies led to Columbus s discovery of the Americas in 1492 which revolutionized commerce and international trade. In 1517 a German monk named Martin Luther listed a series of complaints against the Roman church leading to a reformation that transformed the western church. The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat. The armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight. During this time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily armored cavalry, and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this period generally consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective the reliance on cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be effective he required the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and carrying its own armor while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required training which took both time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who were part of the nobility, they were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of sufficient size when the need arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their primary tactic of charging the enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. If a homosexual couple has the desire to wed, I do not see any possible reason that this would affect my livelihood. I will let God decide if this practice is acceptable or should be punished. The utilitarian viewpoint of lying is acceptable if it benefits the greatest good for the greatest number of people is a weak argument. What about those people that do not benefit? Do they not matter? I believe that everyone can contribute. Thomas Plante, Ph. Though one is a novel and the other is a short poem, the two pieces of writing can be thoroughly analyzed on their perspectives and themes to highlight important aspects in each. The stories contain a similar animal theme and both question God, yet they differ in their views on God. A similar aspect in the two stories is the animal theme. When Pi is trapped on a lifeboat, his only company is a Bengal Tiger. It was in this circumstance that Pi understood the animal need for survival. Pi says of his transformation from a strict vegetarian into someone who expected to kill to survive, that, I descended to a level of savagery I never imagined possible. (218). Everyday, Pi felt like he was at a crucial point in his life, since he didn t know whether he would live to see tomorrow, especially with Richard Parker on the lifeboat. This is when Pi s animal instincts kicked in and mirrored that of the tiger s. The animal inside of him, and his survival instincts ended up plainly evident in his battle for survival. In the poem The Tyger , the animal theme is exhibited through the narrator s relentless questions of the tiger. In the poem it says, What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? (23 24). This happens to be the narrator s way of asking who would dare to create an animal so vicious and dangerous. Throughout the poem, the speaker asks various questions about the ferocity of the creature. Be that as it may, this is the nature of a tiger. They are wild animals that are dangerous, and act on instinct. In the two stories, the animal theme depicted conflicts with civilization. Pi was forced to abandon his knowledge and behaviour from the civilized life he once led, in order to embrace his animal instincts and survive. In The Tyger , we can see the contempt of the speaker while considering the behaviours of the wild animal.
