Discussion Of The NIPE Case Study
The newborn and infant physical examination, NIPE, is performed by a qualified NIPE practitioner
(Department of Health, DoH, 2015; Public Health England, PHE, 2013), within the first seventy two
hours of an infant s life. This screening consists of a head to toe examination of the infant, including,
but not limited to: the heart; the eyes; and the hips. During the examination, the practitioner will take
the time to promote good health and wellbeing of the infant, by teaching the family how to identify
signs of a well and unwell infant (Someren, 2013). The intention of the examination is to assess
whether the infant has any congenital abnormalities (DoH, 2015; PHE, 2013). The NIPE is a
developmental examination which is replicated between six and eight weeks after the infant s birth, to
screen for congenital disorders that become prominent in their physiology within this time period. ...

Support Vector Machine ( Svm )
Support Vector Machine (SVM) is primarily a classier method that performs classification tasks by
constructing hyperplanes in a multidimensional space that separates cases of different class labels.
SVM supports both regression and classification tasks and can handle multiple continuous and
categorical variables. For categorical variables a dummy variable is created with case values as either
0 or 1. Thus, a categorical dependent variable consisting of three levels, say (A, B, C), is represented
by a set of three dummy variables: A:{1 0 0}, B: {0 1 0}, c:{0 0 1} To construct an optimal
hyperplane, SVM employs an iterative training algorithm, which is used to minimize an error
function. According to the form of the error function, SVM models can be classified into four distinct
groups: Classification SVM Type 1 (also known as C SVM classification) Classification SVM Type 2
(also known as nu SVM classification) Regression SVM Type 1 (also known as epsilon SVM
regression) Regression SVM Type 2 (also known as nu SVM regression) C. Dataset The dataset for

The Decoupage Mysteries are a series of cozy mysteries featuring amateur sleuth Brenna Miller a

regardless of their length of stay in the village. But maybe they have something to be afraid of when it
comes to Brenna as she has a secret history that goes back to her time in Boston. She is untrusting
when it comes to the police and tries as much as possible to stay away from violence though it often
finds her. As such she is always looking to sniff out and extinguish any injustice and violence through
her sleuthing.

Why Is Ownership Important In The Great Gatsby
Ownership exists between the tangible and the intangible; while owning objects often devolve into
unhappiness and heighten a dangerous materialistic outlook, ownership of the intangible promotes and
builds a concrete, upright moral character.
The pursuit of tangible ownership inevitably leads to a precarious path of dissatisfaction and misery.
While the attainment of material goods may have benefits, it quickly devolves into a twisted desire
that spurs the growth of emotions such as greed; this appears mainly when the ownership of tangible
items defines a person s status and gives people a sense of worthiness. At this point, people define
themselves with their possessions of the number of flashy cars and extravagant mansions they own
rather than relying on their own personality. Sadly, this common trend ironically demonstrates that
money serves to devalue personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, in Scott J. Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, society reveres Gatsby with his
collection of wealth and influence; yet he only possessed the tangible. He quickly realizes that without
genuine emotional connections with others he feels empty and lost. In a vain attempt to satiate this
growing need, Gatsby attempts to kindle love and relationships by throwing elaborate parties.
However, his flagrant display of luxury did not act to fill his need for genuine human interactions.
Instead, it appeared similar to over drinking water to trick the hungry stomach; Gatsby s parties
existed as a temporary fix that would quickly wear out. Forged relationships only for the increase in
social influence and power strengthened an emotional

Johnny Demp Research Paper
Johnny Depp in Society
Nonconformity has made its mark on the world. Though it is not like everyone would think. It has
captured attention all over the world. Either how a person dresses or acts. This can vary in many
different ways. Johnny Depp is just one example of taking a strange role in society. From being a
musician to becoming a well known actor. Johnny Depp has a place of nonconformity by the way he
dresses, acts and participates in events in today s society.
Johnny Depp had a very rough childhood. He had to deal with the separation of his mother and father
during his high school days. Johnny didn t take this very lightly. Though through all of his pain and
anger he helped take care of his mother. Who was even more heartbroken than Johnny was. During
this time in his life he hung out with the wrong crowd. Once he was embarrassed by one of his
teacher, Johnny finally had enough and before he left the room, dropped his pants and mooned her!
Johnny was suspended and from then on labeled a troublemaker. Since this time he was labeled as a

We should all celebrate our individuality and not be embarrassed or ashamed of it. This shows how he
is related to nonconformity to society. Because he thinks that everyone should be themselves. That
they shouldn t hide who they are because that is what society finds as unacceptable. Because that is
what is unacceptable. Another thing that Johnny says that is different from everyone else is, Me, I m
dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it s the honest ones you
have to watch out for. This is different, because usually it is the dishonest people that need to be
watched, and cannot be trusted. But Johnny Depp thinks about these things in a different light. This is
found odd in the society. Not many people would accept this because it goes against everything they
have been taught. Which brings me back to

Essay On Excessive Use Of Force In Corrections
Sampling
The population for the study of excessive use of force will be of correctional officers with the most
use of force as well as correctional officers that don t have many uses of force. The proposed study
would be of use of force reports as well as any other maintained records of correctional officers within
the department. The use of forces reports to include records would be placed in categories to identify
the officers that used excessive force then from officers that did not use excessive force in situations.
These categories would require the sampling strategy method because the probability sampling
strategy is the method that would identify which officers that have the most documented use of force
compared to the officers that have the least documented use of force ( Use of force, 2017).
Information about probability sampling strategy would be a list of the correctional officers that have
the most documented use of force compared to the list of correctional officers that have the least
documented use of force. My selection would be a random sample because the population of
correctional officers that use excessive force is known from use of force ... Show more content on

However, there may also be risks in the research which would require careful planning so that no
inmate would be offended resulting in officer retaliation from this research. This planning mandates

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Research Paper
For the last couple of years all I have been using is the Xbox as the main console I use for gaming. I
have been very happy with my results, but I think that might change. Ps2 had a great run, but in my
opinion once the Xbox 360 came around I think it beat the Ps3. Now, that the Ps4 has come around it
has changed everything. This essay is about the Xbox one and the Ps4. At the end of this I will choose
which Is better and why. First we will talk the Ps4 which Is a gaming console made by Sony, a
Japanese company. Other than being a new console, it has also brought new features that It has never
had in the past. With the xbox 360 s controller being called the best controller ever made, Ps4 knew

times my wifi goes down or if I dont have wifi. I have a habit of burning through controller batteries
quick and i don t feel going out and buying a $30 rechargeable stands, but this is where Ps4 comes
into place. This console is more convenient because it is smaller that the Xbox one. The Ps4 already
come with a rechargeable cable which means that instead of waiting for my controller to get done
charging, i can play and charge it at the same time.
In conclusion the Ps4 comes out on top overpowering the Xbox one, although that could change.
Microsoft has unveiled that they are coming up with a new console called Project Scorpio that is
planning to beat the Ps4 by adding some of the Ps4 s features like vr(virtual reality) combined with
their own. I still have hope for, since i have been using the Xbox all my life, but we will have to wait

Symbolism In Monk Kidd
Monk Kidd characterizes T. Ray as a savage and a resentful widower. Before of his wife s death, it
seemed as if he was mistreating his wife, but the reason is unclear why he would be hurting her (7).
For example, while his wife is packing he comes upstairs and shakes her to stop her from leaving him.
T. Ray clearly shows the audience that he is not one to solve problems by simply talking, but rather by
physical abuse. However as the story slowly progresses, it seems as if he loathes his daughter, Lily
more than his wife. At the beginning, the reader learns how T. Ray refuses to buy his daughter new
clothes, celebrate her birthday, and creates harsh punishments when she misbehaves. From the back

Rosaleen is not afraid to stand up what she believes in. For instance, when she walks to town with
Lily, she is not afraid to tell the three white men that she is going to go register to vote (31). Rosaleen
seems to symbolize the civil rights movement occurring throughout the United States. Rosaleen truly
believes all African Americans should have the same rights as the average white American. Rosaleen
is also seen to be the only mother figure Lily has had after his mother s death. Rosaleen is not afraid to
stand up to T. Ray for Lily. In particular, Rosaleen bought Lily a purple biddy that insisted on pooping
wherever it wanted in the living room; therefore, T. Ray became very upset, but Rosaleen stood up for
Lily and told him at least it was not pooping all over the house (11). Rosaleen shows that she is not
afraid of anyone, no matter how tough they look and act. Rosaleen is also the one character Lily falls
back on when she feels sad and unloved. Rosaleen loves Lily and treats her as if she was her daughter,
possibly because she feels pity for Lily due to the fact that Lily lost her mother and T. Ray never goes
out of his way to make time for her. This reason could also be why Rosaleen goes to Tiburon with Lily
instead of staying in

The Problem Of Gangs And Violence In Prisons
Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today.
Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and
throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise
about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a
large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs
and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members
when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s. (Martinez) On one
hand the laws enacted helped get gang members off the street, but in another way it backfired by not
stopping the gangs activity. In many ways their number and power grew even more in prison.
(Martinez) The problem of gangs and violence has been addressed many times throughout the years
by the United States Correctional Board but the board has yet to take the problem seriously. Most
gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a member, but
some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known to provide.
Gangs are known to purposely intimidate other inmates, thus reinforcing the reason why one out of
every ten male inmates becomes a member once behind bars. (Knox) Most of the people who enter
prison a member

An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley An Inspector Calls, by J.B. Priestly, is the story of the visit by an
Inspector to an apparently normal family, the Birlings. They are celebrating Sheila Birling s
engagement to Gerald Croft, who is also present, when the Inspector arrives telling them of the suicide
of a young girl called Eva Smith. At first they deny any knowledge of the girl, but as the play goes on
the Inspector manages to show that they all helped kill her. Mr Birling had her dismissed from his

earlier opinion on community, telling the Inspector that he can t accept any responsibility for what
happened to her, even though it may have been a chain of events. He believes that if everyone was
responsible for each other, it would be very awkward. When asked why he dismissed Eva Smith for
asking for a relatively modest wage increase, Birling tries to defend himself by citing financial

Storm surge is an abnormal rise of water generated from a hurricane, over and above the predicted
tide. Most storm surges are caused from the strong winds of a hurricane or tropical storm. Storm
surges cause an abundant amount of flooding with no means of lowering until the winds and tides are
back to normal. A hurricane can produce destructive storm surge, which is water that is pushed toward
the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. This advancing surge combines with the
normal tides to create the hurricane storm tide, which can increase the mean water level 15 feet or

After a theoretical analysis of the pharmaceutical industry, the research includes the development of
an analytical framework, which serves as a basis for the examination of the selected websites. This is
followed by an analysis based on the CSR section of the websites of three world leader
pharmaceutical wholesalers and service providers within the pharmaceutical industry. A qualitative
methodology applied to the written content of the websites allows drawing conclusions on the reasons
that lead these companies to get involved in CSR. It also provides an interpretation of how these firms
organize their CSR communication, and which CSR communication strategies they use for addressing
their stakeholders. Findings: The engagement in CSR of companies developing its activities and
business within the pharmaceutical industry respond to the different challenges this industry faces.
External stakeholders (NGOs, media, consumer advocacy groups and the public opinion) carefully
watch the steps taken by pharmaceuticals. As a consequence, the initiatives and communications must

Candles Research Papers
Candles are very interesting to learn about. The history of candles go way back. They even have
candles made of tallow (fat from rendered animal fat). Well now in modern times they are mostly
made of wax. Now don t get confused because there are many different types of wax you can use.Now
lets have a jouney down the memory of candles.
Wick
Wick is the little string pointing out of the candle. When you set it on fire the heat travels to the body
of the wax and instantly turns into a liquid and vaporizes. During this process the heat travels 3
different ways at once. These processes are known as conduction, convection, and radiation.

fusible. Different types of candle wax burns at different temperatures. The harder the wax the longer
the burn time. The color of the candles makes little to no difference in how fast a candle burns
(colored candles burn faster).
Conclusion
Candles were made by the Romans beginning about 500 BC. With the growth of candles we now
make them out of wax instead of tallow as listed above. The manufacture of candles became an
industrialized mass market in the mid 19th century. Candles were once and now but not that much
used as a source of light before electricity was discovered, and the light bulb discovered.Overall
candles have a very interesting background that most people don t even know about but after reading
this you should be fully packed with a good explanation of

another weekend, we went to a Vietnamese supermarket called Good Fortune in Eden Center, Virginia.
We browsed around the exotic collections, found what we need. Upon checking out, Joseph started

There is a significant difference between the two cases. In those cases, I seemed socially awkward by

Primary Research We surveyed random individuals using Qualtrics to gather primary data for our
research. Forty nine individuals responded to our survey, out of which twenty seven were valid
surveys we used for testing. Our survey consisted of the below questions: Have you heard of
SnapChat? Are you a SnapChat user? Gender? Age? How long have you known about SnapChat? Do
you know about Facebook s offer to SnapChat? How did you hear about SnapChat? Will you
recommend SnapChat to others? Did you start using SnapChat before or after Facebook s offer?
Correlations Testing Twenty seven individuals were surveyed to determine for how many months do
they use SnapChat in comparison to their age and if there is a relationship between age and usage of
social media apps such as SnapChat. A Pearson s analysis revealed a moderate negative correlation, r=

Mikhail Lermontov s A Hero Of Our Time
Mikhail Lermontov s A Hero of our Time is set in the 1840s, a crucial time in Russian history.
Pechorin was a revolutionary character in Russian literature due to his cynical and amoral personality
that alienates him from all social strata. A Hero of our Time generated a large amount of outrage from
the public due to Lermontov, claiming Pechorin to be the hero of our its time. Bela is a framed
narrative portrayed from the views of an old friend, Maxim Maximych, however, the story told by
Maxim Maximych suggests it is an unjust and biased view of our hero thus we as readers are to depict
the true hero Pechorin is. Examining the chapter Bela, his actions signify his capability to damage a
society, demonstrating him to be the callous and manipulative character he is. The first instance we see
our hero s destructive instincts is when he meets Bela. Despite his high level of intelligence, he acts
very much on instinct. Having met Bela on the night of her eldest sister s wedding, his response was
Enchanting! . His concern isn t that she s the daughter of the chief but rather it s her physical
appearance that preoccupies him. This meeting with Bela brings out Pechorin s impulsive nature. As
he overhears a conversation between Azamat and Kazbich, with the former making an offer: If you
want, I ll steal my sister for you... no one has seen such a wife... the two characters are in negotiation

Essay about The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar...
The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar Advertisement
The Takamine guitar advert can be viewed as an effective piece of media in an array of different ways.
The ways used play on a very unconventional style, which is not often used for a musical instrument.
For example most guitar advertisements would use such images as a lead guitarist of a band standing
tall whilst making his guitar scream out whilst he is backed by a huge amp or some such and the other.
The first thing that this advertising piece has you drawn to is its picture, although on first sight you
can t actually see what it is trying to portray as it is a picture of a girl sitting and staring at a boy who
is playing to her in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The background of the image is distorted and blurred so as to show exactly where you should be
looking and so draws the attention to the couple and the guitar. Although, the guitar may be key to this
picture but the headstock that holds the company brand name is off the view of the lens, this could
have been a clever ploy as to make the viewer read on and find out what the brand is.
It is always an awfully easy thing to sell a guitar over any other instrument as it is a very glamorous
instrument (unlike a bass) and so the people used are also very young and attractive in themselves.
This gives a sense of youth to the company and would make them much more appealing to a buyer,
especially a first time buyer.
Now onto the text: the text used in this piece is very peculiar indeed and for the most of it the idea of
the guitar has shifted onto that of a partnering agency. Many of the words used such as partner , right
for you and wonderful cast up totally different thoughts from that of a guitar and this is where the
adverts key selling point really delivers.
It leads on in such a way that you must read on to understand what is actually going on in the advert
and leaves you in complete shock at the end when they refer you to go to Your local Takamine trader

The Authority Of Faith In Cormac Mccarthy
Despite his emphasis on the father s unrestricted love for his son, Cormac McCarthy persistently

The Importance Of Learning A Secondary Language
The vast majority of the people residing in the valley, especially in the city of Brownsville, Texas are
fluent in both Spanish and English, and therefore considered bilingual. Brownsville has been
considered a highly illiterate and poorly educated city, where learning a secondary language such as
English, drastically changes those discriminating statistics. The argument is that learning a secondary
language indeed supports literacy development from an early age, by reading aloud to children,
making them participants of a learning incentive, and family literacy practices. A development in
literacy significantly increases reading achievement test scores, helps students become better at
grammatical judgment and word recognition, and improves their cognitive development.
In the article Learning to Read across Languages: Cross Linguistic Relationships in First and Second
Language Literacy Development by Keiko Koda and Annette M. Zehler, showed that reading aloud to
children in elementary schools, in a secondary language increases their phonological awareness as
they relate their slight knowledge from their first language, and apply it to the new acquisition of the
second. The authors claimed that the field of second (L2) and foreign language reading has pursued an
understanding of factors that impact the reading process, one of which is first language (LI) literacy.
To support their claim, the authors brought together theories and research on the interaction of
languages,

Historical Context Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
The author, Robert Louis Stevenson presents the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
in a unique and compelling way. Many aspects of the short story can be interpreted in different ways
as its complexity can overpower the book transient storyline. One aspect of the book that can be
considered controversial is the way Stevenson presents the novella and the book s historical context.
Although, Stevenson s work can be considered engaging, it can also lead the reader to question the
reasoning behind the particular storyline of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Overall, in
terms of historical context, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is written in an allegorical
way in which different aspects of the book represent a major theme or event taking place in Victorian
England. During the time period in which Stevenson wrote this story, Victorian England was in a state
of poverty and depression. London was divided socially, economically, and even politically as the
nation was torn apart. In addition, due to the Anglo Irish tension there were numerous terror attacks on
London itself contributing to England s melancholy nature. Judith Walkowitz helps in exhibiting the

Use Of Voice Inside Our Minds
There are many ways of self expression. We may express ourselves through music, written and oral
interpretation, our political affiliation, and lastly, our voice. Though we may not realize it, we are
under the constant influence of the power of voice. Whenever we read an article, type an essay, or
even think, we are likely to employ the use of voice inside our minds. It could be our own, a friend, a
favorite actor s voice, or for some people, all of them combined. Another factor we typically associate
to a voice is an image. While subtle, image plays an amazingly crucial role in how we are to appear to
our audience. No one would want to pay for expensive tickets to see an artist live with otherwise
lackluster cadence. Individuals also, probably, might not vote for a candidate if they were to use their
voice to spread oppressive, immoral, or even awkward and unprofessional values; it would affect their
public image. In this essay, we will analyze how our legitimacy (public image; authority) effect how
our voices, and ideas, are heard. In all four cited monologues, each of the narrators has some pre
conceived notion of how they want to be viewed and heard among their audience. In The Candidate ,
Bill Peduto stresses the importance of his voice and all the variables that play into how he utilizes it.

Critique of the Film: I thought Elizabeth was an amazing film, part period piece, part power struggle,
part love story. This film has the elements of a classic film. It is, as a whole, riveting, accurate, and
educational.
Play the Role of a Reviewer for the New Yorker: Consider:
(a) What was left out? Much of Elizabeth s latter rule was left out, instead the film opted to tell the
story behind her rise to power, and he she eventually gained a foothold on her power, securing herself
as The Virgin Queen of England. Other things that were left out were Elizabeth s formative years as a
child, although both of these really had little significance or bearing on the story that was being told in
this film.
(b) What was inaccurate? Nothing that I saw was not based on facts or completely accurate. The script
was highly researched as well all of the elements to the film were. Costumes and sets were perfectly in
check with the time period. Language was also very accurate with the times. I would say that much
attention to detail and accuracy was paid towards all elements of this film. This gives the film a
historical integrity while also making it very interesting and entertaining. This did not feel like a
boring Merchant Ivory movie. To me, this film was a kind of Goodfellas of the sixteenth century.
(c) Were conclusions drawn not warranted by the facts? Yes, as a character, Elizabeth wanted to

Rule of Law in the Constitution
Introduction A free society is a system of interaction between humans wherein every person can
participate in a civilised manner and without discrimination. In Australia, the Commonwealth of
Australia Constitution Act 1900 (Imp) is the primary source by which society operates as an
essentially free society. This paper seeks to establish that the functioning of such a society is
dependent upon the existence of a legal framework supporting the rule of law, which is ultimately, an
ideology. Analogically, the circumstances in which the application of the rule of law has either created
a free society or undermined it will be explored and its purposes thus inferred to construct a definition

In asserting its judicial independence, the High Court in Plaintiff S157/2002 v Commonwealth stated
it was the ultimate decision maker in all matters where there is a contest. Zywicki suggests that as long
as the court follows precedent and thereby gives individuals more certainty of knowledge over the
rights they possess, social coordination and economic wealth will increase. The courts would not be
relying on its discretion, but rules which will apply equally in the future. Thus, refining Dicey s
definition, Zywicki views rule based decision making as a basic concept of the rule of law. Contrarily,
Sykes suggests discretion may be a matter of necessary efficiency which is more valuable than strictly
adhering to the rule of law. The rule of law, then, does not encapsulate the absolute value of society.
Sykes refers to police discretionary power; however, this concept of balancing the rule of law against
other values may be extended to situations wherein exceptions and defences in law apply to certain
groups. Consider the conferral of legal privilege and the requirement of confidentiality on legal
practitioners in criminal law whereas equality before the law operates in favour of the client, the law
of legal privilege applies only to legal practitioners. As Sykes emphasises, it would be unjust if the law
failed to account for social difference and disadvantage... Zywicki would concur and modifies the

political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all sufficient. The author
uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically
persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God.
He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people
(4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the
author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery
between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares,
My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender (11:8) when thinking about his
beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and
thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God s
unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving.
As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured arrangement
but most of the discourse are repetitive and

Courage In Amelia Earhart
Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release
from little things. Amelia Earhart. Life is not meant for the meek. It is not meant to be lived in a box
or in a comfort zone. As Amelia Earhart so eloquently put it, it takes courage to experience peace in
this life. I have had to embody that as I follow my dreams and fight for my goals. My goal is to be a
pediatric genetic counselor. To accomplish this goal, I have had to use courage to face adversity, step
outside my comfort zone, and strive for what I want. You can t just sit back and wait for what you
want. It s not enough to just say you want something and go through the motions. You have to fiercely
and actively seek out what you want and prove that you are the best choice. It may not always work
out in your favor, but it is better to fail then to never try at all.
The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of
fear. Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned. Very
rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes you will fail.
You will be told you weren t the best choice or you were good, but just not what they were looking
for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the best teacher. Failure
makes you stronger and builds you up to be the best you can. It can be challenging to try again

Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany
John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that jumps
around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is
intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character whose
effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are used to
emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the symbolism in this
novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to recognize and interpret,
they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate (and predestination), Irving
makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen Meany told me that he was sure my father was alive, that he was sure my father knew he was
my father, and that God knew who my father was; even if my father never came forth to identify
himself, Owen told me, God would identify him for me. YOUR DAD CAN HIDE FROM YOU,
Owen said, BUT HE CAN T HIDE FROM GOD. (p. 21) Another mystery in the novel is what
happened to the fatal foul ball that struck Tabby. Owen denies having taking the ball and insists that
the John s father must have been present at the game and took the ball as a reminder. The baseball
eventually appears in the desk of Reverend Lewis Merrill, a fairly benign figure in the plot. John s
anger causes him to play a prank on the Reverend, using two of the symbols, the baseball and the
armless dummy, to convince Reverend Merrill that his is being visited by Tabby s ghost. This
reinvigorates the Reverend s faith, as Owen s life and death reinvigorates

Northgate Marching Band
In high school I was a part of the Northgate Marching Band Drumline. I auditioned my freshman year
and was put on top bass. At the time the line was dominated by girls, so I felt very comfortable and
made a lot of friends. During the winter season I auditioned for snare. In drumline, the snare drum is
the most exposed drum, therefore it is reserved for the more advanced players. I was told to go home
and work on some things, and so I did. I practiced for a few hours and the next day after practice I was
told I was on snare. I marched snare from then on, freshman year all the way through my senior year.
Although this was a main goal of mine, it was not my only goal in the drumline. In marching band we
had roles called Section Leaders. A section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My sophomore year I tried out just to go through the process and be prepared, but my junior year I
tried out for real. I was trying out as a minority. I was the youngest junior on the line, now the only
girl on the line, and I had been on snare the least amount of everyone else on snare. After a week had
gone by, we had our band banquet. During the banquet they would announce all of the new section
leaders. They took us into the hall and I was told I was the new section leader for the drumline. This
role is held very high in the Northgate Marching Band, because if you hold this position, you are a
leader of the band. Now that I had the title I needed to accomplish one more thing. In drumline we
have a center snare. The center snare is the most advanced player on the line, they count off all the
exercises and they are the person you listen to when playing. Our audition process was intense,
because again I was the one with the least experience on snare. I absorbed every piece of criticism I
received and I applied every fix to better myself as a

Political Changes In America
Throughout American history, political campaigns were a great part of the nation. These campaigns
are a successful tool in benefitting the United States by ensuring the best solution; therefore,
eliminating stress for the political party and the people of the U.S. In 1948, article writers Lazarsfeld
PF, Berelson B, and Gaudet H of The People s choice: how the voter makes up his mind in
presidential campaign, in the Columbia University Press, records about an experiment, in 1948 that
impacted the voting behavior of Democrats and Republicans. With further research, they found that
many voters were influenced by commentary and made changes to their votes. With these vote

Many believe that religion is a great factor in the voting process, especially on controversial topics
like abortion and homosexuality, which affects the votes immensely. Moreover, the varieties of
different religions all have contrasting opinions on numerous issues, which then results in many
different conclusions; thus affecting the political votes. Religion, not only is a great aspect in the
voting process today, but was also a tremendous political feature in the nineteenth century. Robert P.
Sweirenga, author of Ethnoreligious Political Behavior in the Mid Nineteenth Century, promotes that,
the most exciting development in American history since the 1960 s is the recognition that religion
was a key variable in voting behavior. In the past time and eras before the 1960 s, religion was the
main element for solving complex issues, which is why religion was a big part of the political
campaigns. Religion has been a part of people s life style for many years; thus affecting their opinions
on controversial topics that are connected with campaigns. In the 1800 s, the church was an influential
role in the government and society. Moreover, majority of the people at this time were extremely
religious, including the government party, which greatly affected the laws of the country and the votes
of the campaigns. In 1832, the political party realized that religion was becoming such a great factor
and influence, that they did not allow any Roman Catholics to be a part of the Executive Council until
1840. Even still, after that date, they majority of the government were a part of the church, showing
that religion has such a major impact on the influence of voting even still in the twenty first

His parents would frequently separate and George eventually had to live with his Uncle George and
Aunt Myra for several months. The couple helped George in his academics and taught him his
multiplication tables as he was going to the fifth grade. In the fall of George s junior year of high
school, his father Fred suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. His condition severely affected his speech and
soon afterwards his business went down. This took an emotional toll on Fred, who eventually got a
part time job as a superintendent at a cemetery, where he would trim headstones and help to set up
burial monuments. He also worked occasionally sweeping out the laundromat. George s mother still
worked at the boutique store. Money was tight and George s uncle began helping the family
financially. By the end of George s junior year of high school, he realized he needed to make a
decision as to whether he would go to college he desperately wanted to. He began to improve his
grades but his SAT score was low. During an attempt to cheat and have his friend forge a signature on
his SAT scores, George got caught; which lessened his chances of going to college. It was then that
George s uncle tried to help him get a job in Boston, but George wanted to make his own money his
way. George eventually attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi but later quit after

O Brien once said, They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the
terrible power of the things they carried (pg #). Every soldier carried many items of what they need for
war as well as items they wanted to remind themselves of life outside the war for comfort. They
physically carry these items around, however, some of the items have an emotional burden to them.
Lieutenant Jimmy Cross exemplifies having the burden of love. He carries around physical reminders
of a girl named Martha that he forever dwells on during combat. Such as memories of their date and
an action shot of her playing volleyball. Being away from a girl he loves causes the inability to focus
on the task at hand keeping him emotionally unstable. Others burdens are not stressed in the story as
much as Lt. Cross. Henry Dobbins is very superstitious and carries his girlfriend s pantyhose around
his neck. He wears it as a good luck charm and it keeps him alive. Eventually, his girlfriend broke up

Discussion Of The NIPE Case Study The newborn and infant physical examination, NIPE, is performed by a qualified NIPE practitioner (Department of Health, DoH, 2015; Public Health England, PHE, 2013), within the first seventy two hours of an infant s life. This screening consists of a head to toe examination of the infant, including, but not limited to: the heart; the eyes; and the hips. During the examination, the practitioner will take the time to promote good health and wellbeing of the infant, by teaching the family how to identify signs of a well and unwell infant (Someren, 2013). The intention of the examination is to assess whether the infant has any congenital abnormalities (DoH, 2015; PHE, 2013). • 3. Support Vector Machine ( Svm ) Support Vector Machine (SVM) is primarily a classier method that performs classification tasks by constructing hyperplanes in a multidimensional space that separates cases of different class labels. SVM supports both regression and classification tasks and can handle multiple continuous and categorical variables. For categorical variables a dummy variable is created with case values as either 0 or 1. Thus, a categorical dependent variable consisting of three levels, say (A, B, C), is represented by a set of three dummy variables: A:{1 0 0}, B: {0 1 0}, c:{0 0 1} To construct an optimal hyperplane, SVM employs an iterative training algorithm, which is used to minimize an error function. According to the form of the error function, SVM models can be classified into four distinct groups: Classification SVM Type 1 (also known as C SVM classification) Classification SVM Type 2 (also known as nu SVM classification) Regression SVM Type 1 (also known as epsilon SVM regression) Regression SVM Type 2 (also known as nu SVM regression) C. Why Is Ownership Important In The Great Gatsby Ownership exists between the tangible and the intangible; while owning objects often devolve into unhappiness and heighten a dangerous materialistic outlook, ownership of the intangible promotes and builds a concrete, upright moral character. The pursuit of tangible ownership inevitably leads to a precarious path of dissatisfaction and misery. While the attainment of material goods may have benefits, it quickly devolves into a twisted desire that spurs the growth of emotions such as greed; this appears mainly when the ownership of tangible items defines a person s status and gives people a sense of worthiness. • 10. The Problem Of Gangs And Violence In Prisons Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today. Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s. (Martinez) On one hand the laws enacted helped get gang members off the street, but in another way it backfired by not stopping the gangs activity. In many ways their number and power grew even more in prison. (Martinez) The problem of gangs and violence has been addressed many times throughout the years by the United States Correctional Board but the board has yet to take the problem seriously. Most gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a member, but some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known to provide. The Importance Of Learning A Secondary Language The vast majority of the people residing in the valley, especially in the city of Brownsville, Texas are fluent in both Spanish and English, and therefore considered bilingual. Brownsville has been considered a highly illiterate and poorly educated city, where learning a secondary language such as English, drastically changes those discriminating statistics. The argument is that learning a secondary language indeed supports literacy development from an early age, by reading aloud to children, making them participants of a learning incentive, and family literacy practices. A development in literacy significantly increases reading achievement test scores, helps students become better at grammatical judgment and word recognition, and improves their cognitive development. • 36. Use Of Voice Inside Our Minds There are many ways of self expression. We may express ourselves through music, written and oral interpretation, our political affiliation, and lastly, our voice. Though we may not realize it, we are under the constant influence of the power of voice. Whenever we read an article, type an essay, or even think, we are likely to employ the use of voice inside our minds. It could be our own, a friend, a favorite actor s voice, or for some people, all of them combined. Another factor we typically associate to a voice is an image. While subtle, image plays an amazingly crucial role in how we are to appear to our audience. No one would want to pay for expensive tickets to see an artist live with otherwise lackluster cadence. Individuals also, probably, might not vote for a candidate if they were to use their voice to spread oppressive, immoral, or even awkward and unprofessional values; it would affect their public image. In this essay, we will analyze how our legitimacy (public image; authority) effect how our voices, and ideas, are heard. Much of Elizabeth s latter rule was left out, instead the film opted to tell the story behind her rise to power, and he she eventually gained a foothold on her power, securing herself as The Virgin Queen of England. Other things that were left out were Elizabeth s formative years as a child, although both of these really had little significance or bearing on the story that was being told in this film. • 41. Analysis Of The Book Hosea Essay Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all sufficient. The author uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God. He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people (4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares, My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender (11:8) when thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God s unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving. • 43. Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that jumps around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character whose effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are used to emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the symbolism in this novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to recognize and interpret, they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate (and predestination), Irving makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time the line was dominated by girls, so I felt very comfortable and made a lot of friends. During the winter season I auditioned for snare. In drumline, the snare drum is the most exposed drum, therefore it is reserved for the more advanced players. I was told to go home and work on some things, and so I did. I practiced for a few hours and the next day after practice I was told I was on snare. I marched snare from then on, freshman year all the way through my senior year. Although this was a main goal of mine, it was not my only goal in the drumline. In marching band we had roles called Section Leaders. A section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My sophomore year I tried out just to go through the process and be prepared, but my junior year I tried out for real. I was trying out as a minority. I was the youngest junior on the line, now the only girl on the line, and I had been on snare the least amount of everyone else on snare. After a week had gone by, we had our band banquet. During the banquet they would announce all of the new section leaders. They took us into the hall and I was told I was the new section leader for the drumline. This role is held very high in the Northgate Marching Band, because if you hold this position, you are a leader of the band. Now that I had the title I needed to accomplish one more thing. In drumline we have a center snare. The center snare is the most advanced player on the line, they count off all the exercises and they are the person you listen to when playing. Our audition process was intense, because again I was the one with the least experience on snare. I absorbed every piece of criticism I received and I applied every fix to better myself as a ...
