2. Social Class Variations In U. S. Family Life
Social class variations in U.S. family life starts with categories of people who share a
common economic position in the unequal society in which they live in (Strong and
Cohen 82). Classes indicate economic indicators such as wealth and income earned.
These show what people have such as bank accounts, houses, stocks, and retirement
plans, but eliminates their debt such as credit cards, loans, and mortgages. Social class
is known to have structural and cultural dimensions. Structurally, social class
shows our occupations that we depend on for earnings, the power it presents us
with, and the opportunities we get to experience. Culturally, social class follows
people s beliefs, attitudes, values, and motivations that separate them from other
classes. People are grouped together in classes because of their similar incomes,
amounts of wealth, degrees of occupation status, and years of education. Social
class is experienced differently by people throughout life. The four classes that are
used in the commonly used model are upper, middle, working, and lower classes.
Upper classes represents about one percent of U.S. families and usually can be
born into their fortunes or live on yearly incomes. Upper classes incomes can
range from two million to hundreds of dollars. These people are professionals,
corporate executives, and managers who tend to have degrees from expensive
universities. They will live in private homes in separate communities away from
others. Some people will separate themselves among the upper classes based on
how they earn their money and how long they have lived their lives this way.
Middle classes are considered the largest class among U.S. families. Occupations in
this class are found to be highly paid professionals such as lawyers, doctors, and
engineers. They have annual incomes that can reach from hundreds to thousands of
dollars. Middle classpeople are typically college educated, but may not have entered
the same expensive universities as the upper classes. They still have earned and
achieved advanced degrees. Middle class earners enjoy luxuries such as their own
home, vacations, and can provide their children with necessities throughout life such
as college educations. White collar
4. The Quite American By Graham Greene
In The Quite American, Graham Greene unravels a tale of three lovers at the time of
major political chaos. Political chaos refers to the pre Vietnam War tension in
Vietnam, during which the United States of America (USA/US) was partially and
two European nations (France and Britain) were wholly exerting themselves into the
political conflict between North Vietnam(Communist region) and South Vietnam(non
Communist region). People s Republic of China (PRC) also exerted itself into the
conflict through North Vietnam(Mamaux, et al. 127). PRC is mentioned throughout
Greene s text as China but the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship
is not discussed the way that the South Vietnamese/US/European (non communist)
political relationship is discussed. It is crucial to note that the author discusses the
non communist relationship by developing the three lovers (main characters) as a
physical representation of the region that they identify with. For instance, Thomas
Fowler represents Europe because he identifies as a British. Phoung and Alden Pyle
represent South Vietnam and US, respectively. While the dynamic of South
Vietnamese/US/European political relationship is seen through the three lovers, the
readers are only about to know about the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese
relationship through the lens and to the extent of the relationship that they share with
Europe and US. This implies that a part of Vietnam s story is excluded. The Quite
American is,
5. Irrational Decisions In Huck Finn
Through the novel we notice that both characters have a tendency to make
irrational and irresponsible decisions. Such as Pap who is not a good role model
to Huck as he beats his son and tends to be drunk most of the time throughout the
novel. This shows Pap as an irresponsible human being making irrational decisions.
Another good example is Although Huck is not a drunk or fights with others, he
still makes ignorant mistakes. Such as in chapter 10, Huck kills a rattlesnake to
play a prank on Jim by leaving it on Jim s bed but the snakes mate joins the dead
partner and when Jim gets into bed it bites him. Huck later realizes he had forgot
about placing the snake there and to make it worst he says that all comes of my

In the story we find that Huck has been living with a lady named Willow Douglas,
who happens to be his legal guardian. She is the reason Huck is civilized but he is
truly agitated by her because he cannot live freely and always has to follow her
rules and manners. In chapter 8 Pap tells Huck that people think there should be
another trail so your guardian can be the Widow, Huck is shaken by this through
and says I didn t want to go back to the widow s any more and be sivilized (Twain
134). Huck also wants to free from his father because he does not like the way his
old man treats him by locking him up and physically abusing him. We notice the
insane violence when Huck says Pap chased me round and round the place, with a
clasp knife, calling me the Angel of Death and saying he would kill me and then I
couldn t come for him no more (Twain 138). Pap Finn is also on the same boat of
wanting freedom because all he wants is the money that his son has to buy alcohol.
He does not care of about his son and he does not want to take any responsibilities
for anything, he just wants to be intoxicated and waste his life. The best criticism
towards Pap is given by Jim when he tells Huck Yo ole father doan know, yit, what
s he s a gwyne to do (Twain 131). This means that Pap does not have his life figured
out because he does not want to take responsibility and thus be
6. Drones Pros Cons
Over the past few decades, drones have slowly been coming into use, showing
astonishing results, such as a 1.5% civilian casualty rate (Lewis 1 9). At first they
were only used for surveillance, but now, they are used for much more than that. The
military should continue using drones because of the many advantages they have
over traditional combat methods, namely fewer civilian casualties, lower
expenditures, increased abilities, and the moral responsibility of their use. Despite
these facts, there are those who question the use of drones and believe that drones
create more threats to our military than they destroy. The advantages of drones
provide the U.S. military with an edge over terrorists and will help end the war on
terrorismwith as little costs and casualties as possible. Perhaps the most important
benefit drones have over traditional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A team of experts behind the scenes with the drone pilot can look at the details of a
situation and make decisions based on them, whereas a fighter jet pilot has to make
decisions on the spot by himself (Callam). According to some moral philosophers,
political scientists, and weapon specialists, drones are the most moral weapons
available (Ahmad 21 29). Many even consider their use ethically obligatory (Shane).
This means that it is the responsibility for the U.S. to use drones and protect other
nations from terrorists and other threats. The use of drones is considered a
responsibility of the U.S. because of how little collateral damage it inflicts. Drones
are so much more efficient at eliminating targets without many civilian casualties
than traditional methods that it would be morally wrong to not use drones in our
military (Shane). As more drones are used, fewer soldiers have to be sent to battle,
which means fewer of our soldiers coming back in
7. Pediatrician Application Essay
My life experiences have prepared me for a career in family medicine. I find such
a field to require genuine interest, dedication, and the ability to communicate and
relate to patients of all age groups. Upon entering medical school with an interest in
pediatrics, which stemmed from a wonderful rapport with my own pediatrician, I
assumed pediatrics was the field for me. I soon discovered, however, that I was
interested in working with a wide variety of age groups and especially the geriatric
population. I decided I wanted a career that allows me to work with an array of age
groups and allows for me to continue following pediatric patients after they become
adults. I remember feeling upset after the clinic where my pediatrician worked did not

Being the oldest of four siblings, I often find myself taking on the role of the third
parent. As a result, I become more of a disciplinarian, with a stricter nature. My
experiences with the geriatric and pediatric population have allowed me to
become a better listener. To be more receptive and open minded. By listening to my
patients and students tell me about the good and bad aspects of their lives, I have
noticed a common trend. They all want to be heard. I have learned to be more
patient in all aspects of my life, and to take the time to listen to my siblings and
understand their perspective. As a result, my relationship with them has become
much more open and continues to develop strongly. Not only do I feel like my life
experiences have prepared me for a career in family medicine, I ve found that family
medicine is mutually beneficial in my life. It can best be described as a harmonious
symbiotic relationship. Many experiences in my life have helped me decide, without
a doubt, that the field of family medicine is the path for me. My desire to treat and
heal patients drives me to become a successful physician. I look to the future with
enthusiasm and optimism as I enter the field of family

Power Power abuse is an important idea in the film and shown by dialogue, props
and camera work An important idea in the film Rabbit Proof Fence directed by
Phillip Noyce is that power is something that could be manhandled. At the point
when power begins being manhandled, we see individuals getting hurt, families
being torn away and other battling to return home. Mr A.O Neville is the official
defender of the Aborigine individuals. He utilizes this power to take away the
young girls Molly, Daisy and Gracie from their family in Jigalong. This causes the
3 young girls to leave the Moore River Settlement and try to find their way home.
Power is mishandled from numerous points of view by Mr Neville (Mr Devil). This
demonstrates Mr Neville has no appreciation for the native individuals due to how he

Despite the fact that we don t see her take the train, we see her endeavor to flee
from the cops. She comes up short as she is gotten by the two men. Gracie is then

9. The Political System Of Portugal Essay
Portugal is a country that has a political system similar to several countries that have
been discussed in class. The current political system is a semi presidential democracy
with an symmetrical legislature, and it is a unitary government. There are different
branches and chambers with different powers that attempts to keep a balance of
powers among the different branches. The current political system is the result of
many revolutions and evolutions the country went through over time.
Around the years 1974 1976, the country went through a transitional period where it
moved from an authoritarian government to a military based rule and then took a
leap to a representative democracy. These big transitions were the result of the
Carnation Revolution in Lisbon on April 25, 1974 (Huffington Post). Another
important event was when Portugal joined the European Union, this allowed for
more import and export opportunities as well as access to more well developed
political systems which led to the country becoming a less communist based system
(Europa).
The year 1995 was the start of a socialist led political system under the power of
AntПЊnio Gutteres. He helped the country form strong ties with the United States
which led to more evolution of the country and its policies. Ever since the Carnation
Revolution, the socialist party has been in the forefront of all the political parties and
has been the most popular majority since 1975. The definition of a socialist is, the

10. Preventing The Worst By Mary Allison Mitchell
Mary Allison Mitchell

December 4th, 2014
Preventing the Worst Suicide is one of the most dominant causes of death among
prisoners. Equipping prisons, prison employees, and implementing better programs to
become more proactive in prevention will ultimately decrease the number of suicides
among inmates. Suicide is the number one cause of deaths among local prisoners,
and suicide is one of the top 5 causes of death in federal and state prisons (Noonan 2).
Most prisoners begin their sentence at an unstable mental state. Because prisoners do
not receive adequate attention for the severe mental anguish they face, many of them
turn to the most permanent solution before they are given any help (Hayes 2).
Prisons should become more proactive in prevention for three monumental reasons:
to give prisoners a chance for future opportunities, to minimalize family grievances,
and possibly eliminate the costs of solitary confinement. Most prisoners end their
own lives before given the opportunity to create a future for themselves. Most
suicides in jails occur within the prisoner s first 24 hours of incarceration (World
Health Organization 5). The daunting overall prison structure, overwhelming sense of
guilt and embarrassment, and treatment prisoners first encounter leave prisoners
feeling as if they have no option but to commit suicide. The World Health
Organization describes inmates who commit suicide prior to their trial as first time
offenders who have been arrested
11. Nursing Shortage In Nursing
How nervous and worried should one patient be when he or she presses the call
button for a nurse and they don t show up for an hour? Nurses are becoming
worried because of their departments are very understaffed and are scared that their
patients are in danger. I conducted an interview with Jeanne Kenndey from Ivinson
hospital in Laramie Wyoming, and she stated; we really short staffed and we can t
schedule for the Acuity and the amount of patients we get so we just have to work
with what we have and hope for the best so it s really unpredictable of how we are
going to be able to take care of people She described to me why it was this way;
yesterday was really hard we were really busy you were short staffed and we had a
bunch of sick patients that if anything had gone wrong it could have been really bad
Even in small towns being short staffed is becoming an issue and every nurseis scared
that their department will fail in an attempt to save everyone. In a study ran by
multiple individuals who have their PHD such as; Linda H Aikens, PHD, RN; they
found that in the hospital setting every 100 patients who died where with nurses who
were assigned 4 patients, but 131 patients died when nurses were assigned 8 patients.

idea for everyone, but it has been a well known problem to America for the past
couple of years. The shortage has resulted from a number of factors but the main one

School dress code is possibly one of the most enforced rules in today s school system.
Despite the issues of drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons on campus, the dress code
system is clearly the most important issue in schools today. Who cares about the
fighting, the bullying, or the education of students? A teenage girl s shoulder being
shown is obviously much more distracting and dangerous to the school environment
than kids throwing punches left and right.
Everyday girls express themselves in new ways through the way they dress. Pants

far as ripping holes straight through the back pockets! A girl s pants always send a

Risk taking behaviour involving alcohol is a growing issue within our society so
young people need to be aware of the long and short terms risks involved, how
alcohol is abused and misuse; and its effects on themselves, their family and
community.
The use of alcohol is widely accepted as most Australians have tried alcohol at
some time in their lives. People use alcohol for a broad range of reasons and in
different social and cultural situations. They may drink for sociability, cultural
participation, or as a result of peer influence. They may also drink for pleasure,
relaxation, mood alteration, intoxication, addiction or to drown their sorrows .
Alcohol is consumed in various different settings, such as at pubs, clubs, restaurants,
parties and at home. People may be at greater risk of alcohol misuse if they are a

life, this is known as alcohol abuse a dangerous or unhealthy drinking pattern. While
under the influence of alcohol, individuals may make themselves vulnerable to
various risk taking behaviours. These include short term and long term risks
involving physical and mental health; accidents and injuries; and employment and
finances. More specific examples of short terms risks are blackouts, vomiting,
slurred speech, blurred vision, accidents while driving, injuries such as falls, as
wells as violent and inappropriate behaviour. Detailed examples of long term risk
taking behaviour are brain damage, memory loss, obesity, diseases, cancer,
depression, financial problems and reduced work productivity. Alcohol abuse can
harm your relationships, cause you to miss work, lead to legal problems such as
driving while drunk. If you continue to abuse alcohol, it can lead to alcohol
dependence, where you are physically or mentally addicted to alcohol.

17. Feudal Manors In The 14th Century
By the beginning of the 1300s, Western Europeans were now able to live at ease, as
the Crusades War had come to an end. Although Muslims had conquered Jerusalem,
which was a lost priority, set by the Pope, Catholic Christians living in Western
Europe during the early 14th Century, could persist in their past lifestyles. This
included the use of Feudal Manors. All within the Feudal Manors depended on one
another, and tasks were completed through social classes as mutual agreements with
the Lord of the Manor. For instance, the Serf social class had land, yet had to
complete service, such as boosting the economy through the growth of agriculture
(Ellis 189 190). However, most of the European population was uneducated and
illiterate, which was why Manors relied heavily on Priests and the Pope. Priests

18. St. Paul Sustainable Ecosystem
Sustainability is whether or not an ecosystem can survive for long periods of time.
Throughout this chapter I will be talking about whether the forest in the backyard of
St. Paul is a sustainable ecosystem and what factors keep the balance.
First of all an ecosystem is all the biotic things that live in one area and the chemical
and physical environment that surrounds them. Usually in a sustainable ecosystem
there is everything that the ecosystem needs already provided within it. So what
does an ecosystem need? Well first of all there needs to be an abundance of lots of
biodiversity, which means that there are multiple different types of plants and
animals as well as various different species. Because there is so much different flora
and fauna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The carbon cycle is also a very important part of the ecosystem. The carbon cycle is
how the carbon gets transferred from the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and
biosphere. The carbon cycle starts with plants using the CO2 in photosynthesis.
During photosynthesis plants use water, energy from the sun and carbon to make a
compound called glucose as well as releasing oxygen. Then as the plants get eaten by
consumers the glucose (which includes carbon) moves up the food chain. Along the
way animals use that glucose for energy, as well as breathing out the carbon in the
form of carbon dioxide. Animals and humans harness this energy by our cells that
break down the glucose. This is a process called cellular respiration. We then release
the carbon in the form of carbon dioxide back into the air by exhaling or eliminating
waste.
If along the chain a producer or consumer dies without being eaten the carbon will
decompose and will get buried under everything else. After many years the carbon
that was in it will turn into fossil fuels ready to be burned by us and release more of
the already abundant carbon dioxide into the

such as, interviews, personality tests, ability tests, assessment centers, physical tests
can be used to classify if applicants are suitable or unsuitable for the job and the
company s culture. According to Schultz and Schultz (2010), hiring decisions usually
are not based on one method, but on a combination of methods. Organizations are

This method can tell job analysts about the nature and traits of a person. Research
showed that a person who has an introvert behavior will perform low in customer
services position, and a person who is an extrovert will perform better in a
customer services position (Barrick Mount, 1991). It is fair to say that Gilland
Moore Winery must look for extrovert individuals to fill for the sales positions. An
individual who possesses a higher degree of extroversion may then be more
energetic in a social situation than an individual with a low degree of extraversion.
The meta analysis conducted by Barrick and Mount (1991), indicates that the valid
predictor of work related performance is conscientiousness. They also viewed that in
some individuals; the emotional stability and extraversion appeared to be valid
predictors of work related performance. Therefore, suggesting Gilliand Moore
Winery to conduct personality testing in employee selection can be quite valuable,
for this can guide in organizational decision making. Validity and Reliability of
Selection Tools In the selection process, job analyst must ensure that certain
information gathered were reliable and valid. The most obvious standard for
evaluating hiring tools is accuracy, or how well the procedure actually measures the
job related attributes the job analysts are looking for in applicants. In the context

Transference and Counter transference
Based on Bateman and Holmes (1995), the most straightforward classical definition
of the dynamic aspect of transference may be summarized as a process by which
the patient transfers onto his analyst past experiences which he previously
experienced in relation to significant persons such as his mother, father or siblings
earlier in life. The patient is unaware of this false connection, and experiences the
feelings not as if they belong to the past but as directly relevant to the present. In the

when they wanted to say something in the class and they did not get the chance to

the time had passed and the discussion was over. Doing so, made their teacher, in
preschool, to consider it as a sign of ADHD when Morgan said something
irrelevant to the class discussion. Morgan remembers that the point that they
insisted on sharing, belonged to previous class discussion that they did not get the
chance to talk about it earlier. It may probably be explained from recurrent
conflicts perspective. Based on this perspective, patterns of conflict remain
relatively immutable as a childhood acquisition (Schlessinger and Robbins, 1975).
In Morgan s case, my interpretation is that when they do not get the chance to talk
or to assert their point, they feel neglected. Being neglected is so intolerable for
them because they have been neglected since being a child and it caused them to go
through tough experiences in their life. For example they were sexually and
behaviorally abused by their step father for some years while their mother knew
about that. Morgan explicitly referred to such experiences as indications for being

21. Night Witch Themes
In today s world almost all people, male or female, young or old, black or white can
fight for their country. Back in world war II, this was not the case, which was an
issue. The Russian Night Witches were teenage girls, enlisted to help with the war in
a unique way. They dropped bombs on the Germans during the night, keeping them
awake all night, which dulled their senses for the next day s fights. The nonfiction
book, The Night Witches the amazing story of Russia s women pilots in World War
II by Bruce Myles addressed topics within the story with a more direct approach than
LJ Adlington s fiction novel, Night Witches. In the latter, the main character was a
girl who was in the Night Witches, but she was also a literal witch, with magical...

To be awarded the title of Guards Regiment was the greatest collective honour they
could achieve (Myles 171). This quote shows that the troop accomplished their
ultimate goal of proving all of those who doubted them wrong, and serving their
country well. Throughout both books, themes of inferiority were common through
the words of male troops towards the Night Witches, before they began to
outperform them. Folks in Corona City are sitting up and taking notice! You are
making a difference in this war (Adlington 178). This quote refers to the spotlight
that the newspapers had begun to point at the Night Witches, once they got wind
of how they were excelling and the difference they were making. This was an
enormous confidence booster and affirmation of skills for the girls who were
constantly belittled by those around them because of their gender and age. The
newspapers played a more active role in the nonfiction book, with updates on
specific girls, and more overall information on the war and their effect on it. This
is helpful for the reader because they get more out of the reading, and understand
how the papers fueled their desire for success, and gave them hope for the future.
This is a huge honor, Rain. Think of it, you ll be a Hero of Rodina (Adlington 259).
This quote shows that the fiction book incorporated the important aspects of the
story, but not with the same level of detail as the nonfiction, which is not the best
way to learn for many people. For example, in the nonfiction book, the squadron got
the highest honor, and in the fiction book just two of the pilots did. This changes the
theme because it doesn t boost the morale of the whole squadron, accomplishing their
goals. It also creates a some jealousy, which is
22. Salmonell A Common Bacteria
The importance of doing this investigation was necessary as this microorganism,
Salmonella is a common bacteria encountered in daily life. Salmonella is a
bacterium that is found in a wide variety of animals and mammals (Weese and
Fulford, 2011). Gram negative bacteria exhibit appendages on outer surfaces
known as pili (Lo et al., 2014). The pili is also named fimbriae, these are chains of
protein that form filaments that extend from the outer surface of bacterial cells
enabling them to adhere to any host target cell (Proft and Baker, 2009; Kang and
Baker, 2012). This makes the pili of clinical importance when assessing clinical
manifestation; particularly in pathogenic organisms, when developing drugs such as
vaccines (Kang and Baker, 2012). Currently, the use of pili in vaccine development
is widespread in research (Wizeman et al, 1999). This suggests that the pilus is the
basic structural subunit in all bacterial cells. Studying Salmonella is vital in
understanding how SafD operates and possible clinical problems posed to
individuals, due to the different strains of the bacterium that have been previously
discovered. Although Salmonella has been identified and classified into different
classifications, it has undergone multiple changes and the main nomenclature system
is yet to be established (Chiu, Lin Hui, 2014). The genus which Salmonella belongs
to is known as the Enterobacteriaceae family (Chu and Su, 2004; Farmer, 1995).

23. Essay on Raphael Sanzio Inspired
It was once said by Josef Albers that, Any color subtracts its own hue from the colors
which it carries and therefore influences. An artist works upon people, places, and
things that incite them to express themselves. It is these things that lay the
foundation for a masterpiece that goes on to influence future artists. This is how the
artist RaphaelSanzio came about being one of the best of his time. Raphael took
methods and ideas from his surrounding colleagues and then he would combine them
with his own personality to create some of the best works from his era. Raphael
Sanzio s work of the Italian High Renaissance era is the result of influences and
incorporation of techniques of MichelangeloBuonarroti, Pietro Perugino, and

To make the work his own, Raphael would mix in his own personal sentiment into
his work. Without this touch, Raphael s work would simply be a copy of the work
by Pietro Perugino. ( Raphael. ) Not only does Raphael s artwork simulate the
paintings of Perugino but, it also channels a strong Da Vinci influence with its
pyramidal composition, contour, balance, and interplay of light and dark
(chiaroscuro) and sfumato (extremely fine, soft shading instead of line to delineate
forms and features). (Raphael Sanzio. ) Leonardo Da Vincis inspiration on Raphael
can be most prominently seen in his well known series of Madonnas. One of the
several techniques favorably utilized by Da Vinci is pyramidal composition.
Pyramidal composition is a device used to pull the audiences eyes to view a
painting from the top to the bottom rather than from left to right. In pyramidal
compositon the objects in the painting are enclosed in what can be noted as an
imaginary triangle. ( Renaissance Baroque Art. ) This technique can be easily and
most obviously seen in Sanzio s Madonna of Belvedere and The Canigiani
Madonna. In Madonna of Belvedere see figure 3 the Virgin Mary is the main
structure of the triangle. In her hands she is holding a child at her feet and is

24. The Importance Of Internment In John Okada s No-No Boy
Ichiro Yamada, in John Okada s No No Boy, plays a major role in defining American
ness in the novel. From the very start of the book, readers may note that the rest of
society indefinitely identifies Ichiro as Japanese, due to his unique appearance
compared to the white majority of America and his refusal to join the military during
Japanese internment. While Ichiro was interned, the government required a Loyalty
Questionnaire to be administered to all Japanese interned in the camps. Two major
questions determined, in Ichiro s eyes, either acceptance or unacceptance into
American society: one being the will to serve in the army whenever asked and
swearing allegiance to the United States and forswearing allegiance to the Emperor of
Japan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gradual decrease of Japanese pride is also emphasized with the fact that he sees
himself as only half Japanese, since one does not speak and...play and fight and see
and hear in America among Americans...without becoming American and loving it
(16). He explains this uncertainty about his national identity as the reason behind
why he refused to go serve in the army in the first place.
Later in the novel, as Ichiro converses with Emi, he considers the possibility that
his decision was not out of Japanese nationalism, but due to the societal ideal that
one must choose if they are Japanese or American; being both is impossible (84).
Subsequently, the allegorical message that he is not masculine enough, which in a
way defines American ness in American culture, is portrayed by the beating he
receives from Taro s friends. At first, the initial visual image of the scene views the
situation as only an attack on Ichiro. However, the second underlying meaning
behind this literal attack is portrayed by when There was a sharp and slender youth
bent over him with a wide grin and started to slip the knife blade under the leather
belt (73). The action of slipping the knife blade under Ichiro s leather belt infers the
attempt to castrate him to further emasculate him, which represents that he does not
belong to society as both a person of color and as an American man due to refusing to
serve in the army. Furthermore, although the story concludes that society

28. Cross Gender Communication Essay
Cross Gender Communication: And the Problems Associated with It.
Women and men are different in many ways. They see the world through completely
different perspectives which leads to differences in communication. Women
communicate with their partners not only because they want to talk to someone, but
they also use conversation as an opportunity to bond intimately with their partner,
explore and share thoughts, and express her anxieties. Men on the other hand believe
that all conversations should have a clear purpose, he doesn t need or want to hear the
small details, he listens passively not patiently, he wants to tackle the problem head
on otherwise he loses interest in what the women is trying to convey. Men and
women want to keep each other happy but with the differences in both sexes it could
be easy to end up in a frustrated state of conflict and resentment if they don t
understand each other since the beginning of the relationship. Effective gender
communication is essential to every thriving relationship; however, lack of
communication and problem resolve could result in relationship conflict and
unsatisfied partners if it is not addressed or acknowledged.
Relationships start off with two people showing their best behavior, they connect on
multiple levels and far too often adjust themselves to fit in the relationship they are
in. With time, the connection deepens and the level of fulfillment excels and both
partners find themselves compromising considerable things

In the 19th century novel Fathers and Sons, author Ivan Turgenev compliments the
theme of the generation gap by portraying two divergent paradigms of nihilism and
the author s personal ideology, romanticism. Yevgeny Bazarov s is used as a
representative of nihilism thus epitomizing one side of the spectrum; meanwhile
Nikolai Kirsanov serves as a token for romanticism. Both characters experience key
tests through characterinteraction in the noveland thus strive to test their own
perspective. Through the use of the characters of Nikolai Kirsanov and Yevgeny
Bazarov, Turgenev respectively conveys that balance and progressiveness are
essential in order to sustain one s philosophy through life s challenges.

Despite Pavel being the one to actively challenge Bazarov, the disagreements revolve
around disputing the nihilistic philosophy itself; Nikolai s character is Bazarov s
true opposite. His romantic philosophy depicts the strong contrast between the two
different views and hence the essence of the novel. This is accomplished with
Nikolai s love for nature, poetry, appreciation of beauty in the simple things, such
as art and music with his leisure practice of the cello, his character seeks the active
implementation of the prior definition of romanticism in his life. Despite Nikolai s
willing accepting attitude towards the new generation Bazarov still perceives
Nikolai as an unprogressive individual and even subtly criticizing him to Arkady
saying His quoting poetry isn t up to much and he doesn t understand a great deal
about estate management but he s a good sort. (18) The quotation illustrates more
insight on Bazarov s character, despite that he just arrives as a guest, he already
begins inspecting imperfections of the setting around him. As Bazarov is a figure of
admiration for Arkady, and Arkady is on a journey of proving his own supposedly
nihilist nature, Arkady tries to implement his views onto Nikolai in attempts of
progressing him rather than understanding his father s nature. Nevertheless Nikolai s

30. Bailey And Burch Strategies
One of the strategies that was suggested by Bailey and Burch was to determine if a
task would only take two minutes, and if it did, then do the task right away rather
than letting it pile up. I tried my best to utilize the two minute strategy. I tried to
use this strategy when it came to answering emails and printing out materials that I
needed to use for class or at the practicum agency. The two minute strategy is great;
however, I do find that simple, easy, quick tasks take longer than I expect,
Sometimes I think replying to an email will only take two minutes and then I will
spend 10 minutes or more on it. I like this strategy however I think of it more as a 15
minute strategy because that is a more realistic time frame for me. Another
31. Comparison Of Zosima And Alyosha In The Brothers
Karamazov
In the Brothers Karamazov written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, books 6 and 7
provided additional details on the characters Zosima and Alyosha. More
specifically, the books provide insights on how similar the two characters are to
one another in terms of their personal lives and paths to spiritual awakening. One
similarity between the two characters are how internal struggles triggered both
their spiritual realizations. Prior to Zosima entering the monastery, Zosima was
very similar to Dmitri, which is exhibited when Zosima says, we were all but
proud of our drunkenness, debauchery, and bravado . . . behaved wickedly . . . I
had come into my own money, and with that I threw myself in a life of pleasure,
with all the impetuousness of youth, without restraints (Dostoyevsky 296).
Furthermore, like Dmitri, Zosima was willing to commit a crime in the name of
love by dueling Zosima s past lovers husband: I learned with certainty that he had
accepted my challenge . . . [however,] at the time, duels were strictly forbidden
(Dostoyevsky 297). Correspondingly, before the duel was to take place, Zosima
suddenly undergoes a spiritual awakening through thoughts of his deceased brother,
Merkel (discussed later): what was I setting out to do? I was setting out to kill a
kind, intelligent, noble man, who was not at fault before me in any way, thereby
depriving his wife of happiness forever, tormenting and killing her (Dostoyevsky
298). It is through this conflict that triggered Zosima into

Technological advances have engineered many new forms of entertainment, one of
the most popular being video games. Video games have come a long way since they
were first introduced to the mainstream audience during the 1960 s and 1970 s and
have drawn a large amount attraction among people of all ages and culture. However
it wasn t until the Play station was released that violencebecame a concern to parents
and politics. The level of violence in video games have been in a matter of
controversy dating all the way back to the classic games like Pacman and Space

modern and realistic games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. These

The experiment involved the use of a Bobo doll. The doll is an inflatable clown
that is in the shape of a punching bag. The experiment started off with several
children watching the first video of an adult hitting the Bobo doll with kicks,
punches, weapons, and even toy guns and the second video of an adult playing
with toys while ignoring the Bobo doll. According to Kutner and Olson (2008),
Children were more likely to be violent towards the Bobo doll after seeing the acts
portrayed on film by the adult. As a result, when young kids observe violence tend to
be more aggressive and hostile. Since violent video games teach children to be
violent, aggression will no doubt increase. Following, addiction surrounding video
games is becoming an increasing problem as well. The youth play continuously,
obsessively and in some way believe and perceive the virtual world as more
pleasing and attractive than the real world, and as a result they should be banned.

34. Prejudice in King of the Bingo Game
Ralph Ellison s King of the Bingo Game is the story about an unnamed black man,
in the 1930 s, who is hoping to win the bingo game that is being held at the local
cinema, in order win enough money to pay for his gravely ill wife to see a doctor.
The central idea of this story is about race, and the inability for a person to be the
master of his or her own destiny, when they live in an unfair and prejudicial system.
The main character is completely alienated from the world around him. He is a
black man living in a white world, a man who was born in the South but is now
living in the North, and his only form of companionship is his dying wife, Laura,
whom he is desperate to save. He is unable to work since he has no birth ... Show

Since the main character is unable to articulate his situation clearly, the use of limited
omniscient point of view allows the reader to better understand and identify with the
protagonist. The main characters limited vocabulary also reinforces the central idea
by suggesting that he did not have access to a decent education. Had a first person
point of view been utilized, the reader would not have been able to fully appreciate
the main character s reality or appreciate why he was so willing to embarrass himself
on stage.
The story mentions a group of girls the protagonist suspects to be lindy hoppers.
The Lindy hop movement became part of the mainstream American music scene,
suggesting that despite the story having been written in 1944, it is more likely to
be set in the 1930 s. By setting the story in a cinema, the author creates an aura of
fantasy, since the cinema is a place in which reality is suspended. At the beginning
of the story the main character is aware of his reality as a black man in white
America, affirming his belief that everything was fixed against him. However,
once on stage, and with the bingo wheel controller in hand, reality is suspended and
he finds himself feeling as though, for the first time in his life, he was king of his
destiny. His fate is now in his hands, and he refuses to let go of the button prompting
two white men to come a wrestle the button from his hands. Once again his control
over his life is taken away
35. Natsume Soseki s Kokoro
Few novels dare to touch the inner vulnerability of humankind. It is Soseki s
Kokoro that captures the essence of friendship and loneliness, truth and betrayal,
and life and death. The novel is, after all, about human nature. Any one reading this
powerful work will quickly relate to the characters who go through tremendous
strife, personal changes and much reflection. While Kokoro was written in Japan
many years ago, it may be valuable to a reader even in contemporary society as its
attributes may be embraced today, despite its age and cultural focus. Natsume
Soseki s Kokoro explores a great deal of subject matter. Several themes are woven
into the pages of this older novel. It is fair to say, at least based on a personal
experience, that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A sense of betrayal and sadness permeate the work and create a void. After all, things
were going quite well in the world of friendship and male bonding until the young
student s mentor of sorts would commit this ultimate act.
This story is about one man s journey through self realization and the revelations he
makes after befriending a man. In one way, it is more about a personal journey than
about a relationship. What is most troubling, and lends the work a somber tone, is the
main character s loneliness, yet another theme illustrated in this novel. In some way,
Sensei helps to break through that barrier. After K s suicide, he realized the atrocities
of his actions and the heinous development of his character from diligent student to
human betrayer. After much time of personal torment, K confided in him of his
love for Ojasan. Why Sensai seemed surprised as to the context of the confession
somewhat confuses the reader as clearly anyone could have seen that K was also in
love with her, in fact, surely Sensai knew, but he reclined to a state of denial. He
states, I felt as if I had been turned into stone by a magician s wand. I could not even
move my lips as K had done (205).
As Sensai came to understand it was he who was responsible for the death of this
man, he felt he had no choice but to cease all human actions and remain an outcast in
society, secluding himself to his home and his wife. Surely, no one could understand
what he had done or what he had

38. State Control Of Alcohol Distribution
State control of alcohol distribution is just one of many benevolent government
formulations that in the end does more harm than good to the people of Pennsylvania.
In their naГЇve, paternalistic attempt to defend moral virtues and to protect people
from themselves, our state government continues to ridicule the American ideals of
free market competition and individual liberty. Consumers should have the ability to
purchase any variant of alcohol that private stores are willing to sell at the market
price at any time. Private stores should be able to compete freely to sell alcohol to
customers, selecting their own hours and enforcing their own rules on the sale of
alcohol at their discretion.
At long last, these free market principles appear to have once again taken hold in
Harrisburg, as a bill is in place in the Pennsylvania Legislature that would privatize
liquor sales in the state. In order to encourage the Pennsylvania Senate to act on the
bill (the House passed it earlier in 2015), I submit this essay, wherein we will
discuss both the pros and cons of privatizing liquor sales in Pennsylvania. By
examining the major arguments for (such as the blossoming of new business
opportunities see Wegman s bistro that serves alcohol) and the arguments against
(such as worries that unfettered access to alcohol will lead to public health crises,
and thus more taxes and debt for taxpayers) liquor privatization, I hope to elucidate
the rhetoric employed by both sides of one

Born on December 17, 1770, Beethoven was a child Maria Magdalena Keverich
and Johann Van Beethoven, where he was born and raised in Bonn, Germany. At
quite a young age, Beethoven began exhibiting impressive musical talents.
Following, Beethoven s father became his initial musical instructor, however his
methods of teaching were certainly questionable. Johann was brute, it was
accounted for by neighbors that they witnessed a small child weeping playing the
clavier while standing atop a footstool to reach the keys. His father shadowed him
and punished him for every mistake; he also overworked and deprived him of
sleep. With his father, Beethoven studied the clavier as well as the violin. He also
received additional lessons from organists in the city he resided in, adding to his
workload. Hoping for his son to be recognized as a musical prodigy, Beethoven s
first recital was held on March 26, 1778 when he was seven years old.
Unfortunately, the performance was not a success, not in the way his father had
hoped, Beethoven s talents where indeed portrayed, however it did not receive the
type of recognition that Johann had hoped for as there was no press or publicity.
Meanwhile, average was a fitting word to describe Beethoven s studies, music came
more naturally to him than anything else. Therefore, he withdrew from school at the
age of ten and committed his life to music. Following, he began to study music with

40. Literary Devices In The Swimmer
Oliwia Los 11/1/2014
Literary Analysis of The Swimmer
In the short story, The Swimmer, John Cheever uses precise literary devices to
emphasize the true meaning behind what the average reader might first gather.
Throughout this short story, Neddy s journey is recorded through what he does and
how the time changes. His actions of jumping from pool to pool show Neddy s
incapabilities of growing up and the falsehood that he lives in. John Cheever wants
the readers to understand that Neddy s life is only a downfall as the years go by,
and that his outlook on life doesn t change until he realizes all his actions have left
him alone. To set the tone of the story, the author uses metaphors of different objects
to show Neddy s changes in life, change of diction to set a tone from excellence to
weakness, and Neddy s life paralleled through the imagery described in this short
story. Cheever uses metaphors throughout The Swimmer to cleverly explain to the
audience without actually saying how Neddy s life really turned out. The most
profound metaphor throughout this short story is the swimming pool. The pools that
Neddy swims through represent the periods of time that occurred in his life and how
each was different than the other. During the first ... Show more content on

1.0Introduction
This research study suggests that familial factors can contribute to the development
of anxiety disorders through numerous methods. When an individual s family of
origin possesses a history of traumatic experiences, it engenders behavioural
epigenetic changes that can instigate anxiety. Additionally, when individuals have
ancestors with Epilepsy, their susceptibility to anxiety disorder/s is increased.
Similarly, when individuals experience childhood abuse, they also acquire epigenetic
changes, as well as serotonin deficiencies, which have the capacity to cause anxiety

GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter critical in regulating anxiety and reducing
stress. It does this by preventing overstimulation in the brain, and subduing excitatory
neurotransmitters, which can cause anxiety when the brain is overstimulated. Hence,
GABA deficiency results in overstimulation in the brain, and consequently, anxiety.
Furthermore, those who experience anxiety due to GABA deficiency, often develop
anxiety disorder/s (Neurotransmitters, Depression and Anxiety, 2008). Additionally,
as GABA induces relaxation, analgesia, and sleep, dysfunction of the GABA system
is implicated in the pathophysiology of several neuropsychiatric disorders, including
anxiety (Neurotransmitters, Depression and Anxiety, 2008). GABA is synthesised by
the amino acid glutamate decarboxylase (glutamine); thus, glutamine deficiency will
result in GABA deficiency (Graham, n.d.). Whilst glutamine deficiency can be caused
by diets lacking protein (Henderson, n.d.), it also results from Epilepsy (Glutamate
decarboxylase deficiency, n.d.), which scientists believe have genetics aspects (Fisher
and Saul, n.d.). Statistics suggest that in every 100 children born to parents with
Epilepsy, between 2 and 5 will inherit Epilepsy (Epilepsy and inheritance, 2012). In
cases where the cause of Epilepsy is unidentified, professionals believe that it can be
attributed to an inherited low seizure threshold that makes individuals more
susceptible to seizures (Epilepsy and inheritance, 2012). Additionally, children with
an extensive history of, or mothers with Epilepsy in their genealogy, are more
susceptible to the disorder, as shown in Figure

analyzation of his death towards the end of the novel. The audience becomes
informed on McCandless s odyssey as Krakauer goes into specific detail to give
the readers a larger insight on his last couple of months alive. By doing so, the
audience is impacted by the inclusion of precise aspects of McCandless s life; it
helps them see what he went through to follow what his heart desired. When
