A Comparison And Contrast Essay Examples
Crafting a comparison and contrast essay can be a challenging endeavor that demands both
analytical prowess and effective communication skills. The difficulty lies not just in gathering
relevant information but also in presenting a coherent narrative that highlights the similarities and
differences between the subjects under scrutiny.
One of the initial challenges is selecting suitable subjects for comparison. This involves
identifying two entities with enough commonalities to draw meaningful parallels, yet distinct
features that allow for a comprehensive exploration. The research process itself can be time-
consuming, as it requires delving into multiple sources to acquire a nuanced understanding of the
chosen subjects.
Once the research is complete, organizing the essay becomes a daunting task. Deciding on a
structure that effectively conveys the comparison and contrast, whether it be a point-by-point
analysis or a subject-by-subject approach, demands careful consideration. Ensuring a logical flow
that guides the reader through the essay without confusion is pivotal.
The writing process itself poses its own set of challenges. Crafting a compelling introduction that
captures the reader's attention, followed by a clear and concise thesis statement, is a critical
aspect. Striking a balance between presenting factual information and weaving in insightful
analysis is a delicate art that requires finesse.
Transitions between paragraphs are equally vital, as they help maintain the coherence of the
essay. Juggling between highlighting similarities and differences while avoiding repetition
demands meticulous attention to detail. Each comparison and contrast should contribute to the
overall understanding without becoming redundant.
Lastly, concluding the essay with a synthesis of the key points and leaving a lasting impression
on the reader requires a strategic approach. Summarizing the main arguments and possibly
suggesting broader implications or areas for further exploration adds depth to the conclusion.
In summary, writing a comparison and contrast essay involves a multifaceted process, from the
meticulous selection of subjects to the intricate task of organizing and presenting information. It
is a challenge that demands not only academic acumen but also effective communication skills. If
you find yourself struggling with such tasks, it's worth noting that assistance is available. Similar

Personal Narrative-It s Time To End The Drug War
As the food coma sets in my body and drop of sweat rolls off of my forehead, my
gaze locks onto the sunny afternoon rays peeking through the classroom window.
My eighth grade English teacher drones on and on about the end of the year
benchmark test while the musky air encases me in a trancelike state. I could not be
bothered to listen what the two boys were arguing about, but soon realized it was a
mistake as I got a whiff of drugs passing through my nose. The distinctive smell of
marijuana wafts throughout the classroom and somehow the mother like woman
didn t even notice, she just continued to bore the students. At the time, I could not
fathom how these 13 year old boys were doing something so dumb that they would
want to jeopardize their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although an answer to stop the war on drugs may not be found, to lower the
severity of the issue, officials need to support and guide children to stay out of
trouble and to allow them to prosper despite their individual troubles. They should
also begin to decriminalize the use and possession of drugs to stop the seemingly
never ending cycle of poverty, drugs, and violence. As citizens of United States, we
need to advocate for the younger generation both within and across the border and

The Real Creative Power Of Henry Mancini s Music Choices
A film is an art form. Composer, Henry Mancini, once said, the real creative power
is in the mind and heart of the composer. Henry Mancini was the composer for
Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. While these two films may seem like they
don t connect with each other at any point, they do and it is with Henry Mancini. By
examining Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s through the lens of Henry
Mancini s music choices we can see that Mancini s music choices were just as
important as Blake Edwards, director. Many people like to think that the directors of
a film are the authors of a film compared to screenwriters but Mancini challenges that
theory, especially with his work in Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. In these

52:50 where Suzie is at the motel it s the same song at the beginning and at this
scene, there is also a lot of commotion just like in the beginning. 53:25 where
Vargas is riding with Schwartz it is a mariachi band playing which doesn t seem
like it would go with this scene because the speed they are driving is much faster
than the music so you would think Mancini would have had fast bongos like
before. However, because at this scene it seems like Vargas and Schwartz are kind
of in the heart of Mexico if you will I think Mancini places it here for the audience
to not forget where they are and why it is important to remember that this is set in
Mexico. At 54:08 where the Grandi boys are at the motel that same music from the
beginning and at scene 52:50 is playing and this is where Suzie ask them to turn
down the music. Mancini places this music here because it s associated with the
Grandi boys, they are very lively and are not really calm they are trying to mess
things up for Vegas so it s fitting to have this fast jazz playing. 1:09:46 it s back at
the motel with Suzie but this music
A Few Good Men Plot Summary
An orphaned young girl teams up with a former enforcer, as they are pursued by a
ruthless Mexican mobster.
STORY COMMENTS
THE STRENGTH OF TEN MEN is a captivating action, thriller. The strength of this
story is no doubt the complex and highly compelling characters that drive the plot.
The core characters are thrust into a harrowing life and death situation where the
stakes are extremely high.
The script offers intriguing twist and turns. There are solid themes about trust, family,
believing, and faith.
The idea of a young orphan girl teaming up with an enforcer is an appealing plotline.
There s a smart twist when the enforcer turns out to be the person who killed the
young girl s father. In addition, a ruthless Mexican mobster hunts ... Show more

For the most part, it sounds crisp and has a nice rhythm. The voices of the characters
are consistent with their personalities and reveals information about them.
The only area that should be polished is the running gag about whores. This is still
overdone. It s funny in the beginning, but then loses its charm. The discussion about
big dicks isn t all that engaging.
The overall tension works best in the opening. The conflict and tension in the second
act can be stronger if there s more of an urgency and ticking clock. The current pace
hinders this. The tension doesn t enhance again until the midpoint.
The script is professionally presented although there are a few minor typos (pages 4,
45, and 54). Also, the character of Dennis introduced twice.
SUMMARY MARKETABILITY
The plot is engaging and merits consider with revisions, especially in the first half of
the script regarding the goal, tension, pace, and action.
The strengths of this script are the characters and they can attract talent.
The action is also well crafted.
The script should be marketable in both the domestic and international market.
The script should appeal to the mainstream action, thriller audience.

Homelessness And Its Effects On Society
It s time to declare a war on homelessness, which is evolving into a crisis,
proclaimed Mayor Kirk Caldwell in The Honolulu Star Advertiser. (Katel, 841
864) Homelessness has become a widely known issue in the United States. Many
people today are living in the streets without a source of food, water, or a place to
sleep at night. Some who are among the homeless include the elderly, children, and
those who are mentally ill. This is a cause for concern for citizens who are living
their daily lives. Some people express their fear of homeless persons, believing that
they are just beggars for money and take up space on the streets. Although the
description homeless people is not always true, homelessnessdoes affect society and
puts the future generation at risk of becoming homeless as well. People need to bring
attention to the homeless problem across the United States so action can be taken
and change will take place.
Homelessness can be divided into two groups: people who are homeless, and those
who are chronically homeless. According to The U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD), homelessness includes those who are living in
dwellings unfit for human habitation, in emergency shelters or temporary housing,
and/or leaving such a place. (Katel, 841 864) On the other hand, those who are
considered chronically homeless are usually homeless for one or more years and
have a disability or some kind of addiction. Today, homelessness is not a new issue

Legal Forms of Business
Legal Forms of Business: Week 2
Legal Forms of Business In business, the first decision that is made is usually the
most difficult. When making business decisions, the owner must decide what
types of business organization is the best for the company. There are seven forms
of business that will be discussed as well as scenarios in which each of these forms
of business would be the preferred form. This paper will also justify why the
corresponding business form is preferred. The forms that will be discussed are: sole
proprietorship, partner, limited liability partnership, Limited Liability Company, S
corporation, franchise, and corporate form. Sole Proprietorship A Sole Proprietor is

the same time gives the owners limited liability protection from creditors. Scenario:
A company that is taxed as a corporation, has more than 100 shareholders, and has
one class of stock, classifies the company as an S Corporation. Franchise A
franchise is a right granted to an individual or group to market a company s goods
or services within a certain territory or location. There are companies that fall up
under the franchise umbrella such as McDonald s, Subway, and Pizza Hut. Many
people think of restaurants or fast food businesses when they think of franchise.
There are over 120 different types of franchise that consist of automotive, health
and fitness, financial services, and cleaning and maintenance, just to name a few.
Scenario: A person is interested in starting a business and would like to own a
Taco Bell. The best form to use is the franchise. This would require the owner to
buy into the franchise. Corporate The Corporation form is used to solve the
typical problems of the partnership. Incorporating allows a group of owners to act
as one. This is similar to the way a partnership is operated as well. Since a
corporation is a separate legal entity capable of being sued, it can protect its owners
by absorbing the liability if something goes wrong. In a corporation, the owner is

Figurative Language In O Southland
Although Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and
African Americans were instilled with great purpose, they still struggled to lay claim
to their freedom due to the unwillingness of the South to let go. This physical
struggle was represented in Johnson s poem O Southland! The poem begins with the
speaker being sympathetic towards the African Americanrace and asking Southland a
series of rhetorical questions. The repetition of O Southland! O Southland! at the
beginning of each stanza makes the speaker s tone seem pleading ( Southland 1.1).
The speaker asks if Southland has not heard news about the watchword, hope word,
or new gospel about equality for all men ( Southland 1.5,7). Additionally, the speaker

Moreover, Southland still cling[s] to a musty page of history ( Southland 3.18,19).
The poet s word choice of cling suggests that Southland is desperate to stay stuck in
the past. However, the speaker defends the African American s freedom by arguing
that the world is young again and men are in their rightful place in society (
Southland 3.22,24). Perhaps, the speaker comments that the world is young again
because African American children are no longer expected to be men. Additionally,
perhaps the speaker says that men are in their rightful place because now God is the
only ruler of a race. In stanza 4, the speaker takes pride in the fact that Southland is
his home by saying my Southland! O birthland ( Southland 4.25,26). Similarly, the
speaker s tone shifts as he recognizes Southland, saddened by the fact that Southland
is not recognizing him. The speaker urges Southland to live up to the obligations they
have made America has made. They should not be prideful in pushing around the
weak. Strength can only be found in those who help others, because in return, those

Yeats And The Salley Garden Essay
They (the great writers) were national first ... and it was the intensity of their own
nationalism which made them international. (Power 65) As Maud Gonne said
without Yeats there would have been no Literary Revival in Ireland. Without the
inspiration of that revival and glorification of beauty and heroic virtue I doubt there
would have been an Easter week (24). Yeats was born in 1865 near Dublin in Ireland
and through his literary work contributed in the cultural nationalism of Ireland. He
imagined an Ireland that took shape as modern Ireland. He tried to unify the nation
by substituting religious beliefs of the sectarian and class loyalties with the
nationalistic sentiment. He tried to define the importance of love and death in

they write of, carry its influence with them, just as Carlyle remained a Scotsman
when he wrote of German kings or French, and Shakespeare an Elizabethan

excluded Swift, Sterne, Burke and Berkeley from his list of Irish tradition but
afterward he declared them as his predecessors. He favoured genuine literature but
was against any kind of propaganda. He excluded Thomas Moore, Thomas Davis

used English method in their poetry and did not contributed in enriching Irish literary
tradition. He praised Callanan for developing a new kind of verse with its source
from the Irish tradition. The poets who contributed in enriching Irish tradition were

Palace Of Versailles Research Paper
Castles, palaces, and cathedrals are scattered across Europe. Each one possesses
unique characteristics and architecture bearing resemblance of their time. Some
castles incorporate Greek influence, roman or gothic influence in design. Other
castles and palaces are surrounded by sculptures outside in the courtyard or include
sculptures worshiped as an altarpiece. While any one of these things would serve to
make an ordinary castle more elaborate there is one palace that possesses all of
these: The Palace of Versailles in France. The Palace of Versailles has managed to
incorporate classic architecture, exquisite sculptures, and amalgamated the old design
with the newer design trends of the day.
The palace of Versailles contains architecture from the Greek, Roman, and Gothic
eras. The Greeks used Doric, Ionic, Corinthian order columns in their architecture

Essay on Hyperactivity Disorder
I was trying to daydream but my mind kept wandering. The quote by Steven Wright

the quote shows that the person is inattentive. This means that he or she have an
enormous energy store in his or herself. Having time to explore is one of the
magnificent things that children often do. Children have an enthusiasm to learn the
environment that surrounds them. If they go over the limit, then the children will
have problems concentrating. Many scientists have classified these children with

what is going on.
Children are really active, and they like to act before they think. Children that have
the disorder can confront with some trouble with reading, writing, and interact with
other people. Zieman States that, People with ADHD have several small
differences in the brain. These differences are in the front part of the brain (an area
involved in self control) and in some parts in the center of the brain (Zieman).
Zieman looks at ADHD in a physiological way. It implies that the damage that is
causing the child to act that way is a small problem that is in front of the brain. The
front of the brain controls the person s way of thinking, acting, and behaving. This
concludes that the child does have a physical problem.
Now that the facts have been reveal, it is time to understand the symptoms and the
types of ADHD of the child. According to Nazario, Combine ADHD, Inattentive
ADHD, and Hyper Impulsive ADHD are the 3 types of ADHD (Nazario). Combine
ADHD involves all of the symptoms. Inattentive ADHD is marked by impaired
attention and concentration. Finally Hyper Impulsive ADHD is marked by
hyperactivity without inattentiveness. The

about three feet deep. We eventually got stuck in it and had to try our best to crawl
out of the deep snow. To me that was a good problem to have. What I thought was
so crazy was how quick the lines were. Since Snowshoe is one of the best around

Chameleon Shoes Sources Of Capital
Chameleon Shoes Sources of Capital Every business needs some form of capital
investment hence the need for entrepreneurs to identify reliable sources of financing.
The chameleon shoes venture, being a new business opportunity will require reliable
sources of capital. In fact, the chameleon shoes business will require finances to
purchase assets and for its working capital operations. As such, this paper seeks to
explore various sources of capital with particular interest on venture capitalas well as
their pros and cons.
Potential Sources of Capital Personal savings is the first potential source of capital
for investing in the chameleon shoe venture. Personal savings especially money
put aside in a bank is easily accessible and is very instrumental in starting off the

it is often inadequate or the amount may be too small to make an impact. Moreover,

In considering the overarching interpretation regarding depictions of race throughout
the novella, this specific excerpt is salient in both its characterization of the tribe and
the racial commentary that can be derived as a result. Despite the previous passage s
depiction of the Piccaninny through diction that signifies subordination, they are
comparatively described here in a violent and masculine manner that suggests a form
of power. In this then, one must revisit the previously posed inquiry: is the narrator
reproducing the degrading racial hierarchy that labels the other as inferior, or are they
persuading the reader to question it? Phraseology such as diabolical cunning to
describe their plans not only contradicts the notion that they are a rudimentary people,
it also encourages a questioning of the connotations of savagery as it is used
throughout the work (174). However, this is not to argue that the passage is any less
problematic in its presentation. While certain aspects of the word choice may
indicate power, the redskins are still described in a manner that strips them of their
humanity. The use of phlegmatic as an adjective to portray the manner in which they
should deal pale death suggests that they are inhumane and emotionless creatures
(174). Furthermore, the narrator states that they dream of the

dominance that lasted for years. Though different from each other, they were
somehow equal in some ways.

Ethical Conduct In Short-Writing And Analysis
An attorney s reputation is built by the care taken in brief writing. The judge
generally is influenced by an attorney s brief than by any other form of argument
made; therefore, the brief carries persuasive impact, for good or bad, not only for a
current client but all future ones. Linda H. Edwards, Legal Writing and Analysis,
167 (4th ed. 2015). Although the six duties of ethical conduct in brief writing are
equally relevant, I have placed six duties of ethical conduct in the following order, in
the order of highest importance to least importance. 1.A brief writer must not
knowingly make a false statement of law. 2.A brief writer must not knowingly make
a false statement of fact. 3.A brief writer must not intentionally disregard filing

Ethical conduct and legal accountability go hand in hand with integrity. According to
James M. Thomas, founder of the Alliance for Integrity, The standards of professional

They are the values, convictions, ideas, and ideals that fix how one practices, as

share nine crucial traits; furthermore, he admits the price tag for maintaining integrity
can be high. Id. He adds that, Pared to its bed rock essence integrity is the capacity to
stand by right ideas, even when doing so is inconvenient, difficult, or unprofitable;
yet, its payoffs and benefits are unmistakable.
Understanding the Realtion Between Math and Music Essay
Math and Music: An Introduction and Mathematical Analysis
Galileo Galilei once said that the entire universe is written in the language of
mathematics . Then, it is not surprising to learn that music is closely related to math.
The mathematical application in music will be discussed in this essay.
Rhythm and Frequency To understand the relation between math and music, the
primary step is to study the nature of rhythm, frequency and amplitude. Everything
around us has its own pattern of rhythm, from the motion of protons and neutrons, to
the beats in rock music. According to Garland (1995), rhythm is determined by the
periodicity of vibration of certain object in its surrounding substance, or medium (p.
28). The vibration is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amplitude refers to the distance from crest or trough of the wave to its equilibrium
position. Garland (1995) stated, frequency is a term that describes the number of
waves, or vibrations, that pass a given point per second (p. 28). It is inversely
proportional to the wavelength, which is the distance of one wave cycle. Frequency
can be evaluated in the pitch of a tone: a higher pitch has a higher frequency. A simple
tone has constant frequency and amplitude, and its graph is similar to a sine curve.
Tones that are more complicated result from combinations of several simple curves.
The smallest pure tone frequency in complex tunes is called fundamental frequency.
Integer multiples of the fundamental frequency make the resultant tone musical.
The graph below shows the frequency data from A3 to A4 key. Note that A4 key has
twice as much frequency as A3 key, because any two keys that are one octaveapart
have the frequency ratio of 2:1. Further inspection shows that two adjacent notes are
in the ratio of 1.059...
For example:
Freq. of A#3 / freq. of A3 = 233.1 Hz / 220 Hz = 1.059...
Freq. of C4 / freq. of B3 = 261.6 Hz/ 246.9 Hz = 1.059...
Freq. of G4 / freq. of F#4 = 392.0 Hz / 370.0 Hz = 1.059...
The examples show that the frequency of any note is a product of the frequency of
the adjacent note before it and the constant number 1.059.
Proof:
Let an octave start from key A. The ratio of frequency between adjacent keys is h.

All of the other passengers are sober, and will go to their proper seats unless it is
already occupied; In that case, they will randomly choose a free seat. You re
person number 100. What is the probability that you end up in your seat (i.e., seat
#100)?. Solution: Let s consider seats #1 and #100. There are two possible
outcomes: E1: Seat #1 is taken before #100; E2: Seat #100 is taken before #1. If
any passenger takes seat #100 before #1 is taken, surely you will not end up in you
own seat. But if any passenger takes #1 before #100 is taken, you will definitely
end up in you own seat. By symmetry, either outcome has a probability of 0.5. So
the probability that you end up in your seat is 50%. Explanation: If the drunk
passenger takes #1 by chance, then it s clear all the rest of the passengers will
have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. The
probabilities that he takes #1 or #100 are equal. Otherwise assume that he takes the
n th seat, where n is a number between 2 and 99. Everyone between 2 and (n 1) will
get his own seat. That means the n th passenger essentially becomes the new drunk

1.According To Industry Analysts, Acquisition Can Increase
1.According to industry analysts, acquisition can increase the company s global
footprint, which means it can achieve publicity on an international scale. It is
conducive for Tata to increase the company s business diversity across markets and
product segments, which brings Tata advanced technology, low cost engineering and
design to the industry. Based on Market analyses, acquisition is a fast way to bring
the brand into a new market. The competitive advantage was the main supplier of
automotive high grade steel to JLR and other automobile industries in the US and
Europe. Jaguar s vehicles are high profit margins in case they can offer a range of

Besides, from the experience the Nano has in the India market, we can clearly see
the pros and cons that fit with customers needs. But, there may be threats that come
from strong competitors like BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes. It is undeniable that the
weakness of brand image for Tata and new products and market buildings are also
big problems. The cons for Tata are challenges from other competitors since they
share the risk with each other and unclearly market shares. The last action Tata may
choose is complementary strategic. Tata can grow a competitive advantage if they
purchase Jaguar and Land Rover. The pro in this situation is that it can bring the well
known brands emerging in the Indian car market an opportunity. Admittedly that
offers Tata a high certification across the global market within a brief period. The
cons may have is partners fail to use their resources in the market or inadequate
contracts unsure creating value chain.
4. I think the diversifying strategic alliance is the best option for Tata, because we
know in a long way Tata Motorswere highly dependent on Indian markets. So in
that way, it will be less dependent on the Indian market. As a key to acquisition, if
Tata purchase Jaguar and Land Rover, it can bring separate market share reputation
and more. In this case, Tata can avoid the damage to brand image. Besides, Jaguar
and Land Rover both can increase the design services and sourcing like low cost
The Effects Of Alcohol On The Health
Alcohol is one of the most popular and socially acceptable consumed drug around
the world. It is consumed for several different reasons for example to relax or
socialize. It affects the health of people in many ways which is usually depended
on how much alcohol is consumed over a period of time. The term health has
different meanings to different people, depending on what situations they are in.
However, according to the World Health Organisation (1948), the definition of
health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not just the
absence of disease, which encapsulates the idea of the term health status. Taking
this definition of health into consideration, this essay will be looking at how
alcohol affects a person physically, mentally and socially and how that affects their
overall health status. Alcohol consumption, when consumed moderately, is not
always a problem and a risk to health. However, when alcohol consumption starts to
get out of hand and people start to misuse alcohol, it is then, that it becomes a
major problem. Some of these problems could be physiological while others could
be more social or economic related. A report published by public health England
(2014) stated that the annual cost to the NHS as a result of alcohol misuse, is ВЈ3.5
billion and the overall cost to society is ВЈ21 billion each year. There are many
theories which try to explain what the cause of alcohol misuse may be but none of
these are backed by clear
Rhetorical Analysis Thoreau
Questions on Rhetoric and Style:
1. Describe the tone Thoreau establishes in paragraph 2. How does it contribute to
the rhetorical effect of the paragraph? In paragraph two, Thoreau uses a depressing,
problematic and facetious tone to get his message across. Thoreau explains how he is
strongly against the United States government, and also points out problems of the
government. Thoreau uses depressing diction when describing the problems of the
government in order to make people feel hatred toward the government and realize
how problematic it actually is. Thoreau uses Power of Three to exemplify the
problems of the government, and further connects with the audience on an emotional
level by pointing out how the citizens help lead to the countries problematic state.
Thoreau s use of inappropriate humor when he explains trade makes the United
States government seem trivial and almost as a lost cause due to the problems
caused by the leaders. His relation of such a serious topic to a comical reference
makes it an easier to understand situation. The use of this specific tone creates a more
impactful rhetorical effect that is relayed in the paragraph.
3. Thoreau develops many analogies to support his arguments (e.g., in paras. 8 and
9). Select three, and explain whether you find them convincing. How effectively does
each one support the claim Thoreau is using it to support? Thoreau s use of analogies
to support his arguments are very beneficial in getting his point

What are the potential sources of the problem?
The source of these problems seems to be coming from two areas in Interwest

having with upper management. The hospital administrators and upper management
are not only having miscommunication issues but they also do not share the same role
expectations with each other which is creating tension. The hospital people accused

But before any changes to the data entry process are made it is important to
communicate directly to the hospital administrators. It is important to have the
hospital administrators on board with the changes that will be made with the data
entry process. By gaining the hospital administrators consent with the changes this
will allow a smoother transition for the data entry change and it could provide a
positive change to the workplace. As for the changes to the data entry it would
most likely be a simple computer process along with small piece of paperwork. It
would be best to have some sort or paper record on file that would need to be
alphabetized along with a simple computer program. The computer program would
help ensure accuracy and would have the patient s data record on file which will be
easy to locate. There would be very little paper work for the process mainly because
it takes up space and takes more time to record. The paper work that is part of the
process would simply serve as a backup if the computers were down. The key to
ensuring accuracy with the data entry is to make the process as simple as possible so
it would minimize the errors.

The Inequality Of The United States
The study of inequality in America is vital to understanding the complicated political
and social issues in America. Barrington, Illinois, my home town, is the picture of
upper middle class suburbia. It is a town with very little inequality, and very little
diversity, but one which reveals some basic truths about inequality in America. One
must first look at a snapshot of what Barrington socioeconomic structure is, then
evaluate this structure through the theories of inequality. After these, and a quick
evaluation of preconceived notions on Barrington s inequality versus the real data,
and a comparison of Barrington s data to that of the United Statesas a whole, some
conclusions can be drawn. These data reveal a strong correlation between Barrington
s lack of economic inequality, and lack of demographic and social diversity.
Barrington, Illinois is what many would consider to be a very economically
homogeneous city, a vital characteristic in examining its inequality (or lack thereof).
It is one of the generally more wealthy cities in the State of Illinois, with a median
household income of $106,127, and a relatively low poverty rate at only nine point
two percent (U.S. Census Bureau 2014b). With over 25 percent of families in this
town making over $200,000 per year, only four percent making less than $25,000
per year, and a striking 84.6 percent of families making at least $50,000 per year it is
fair to say that there is far less inequality here than in many cities (U.S.

16 March 2015 How Religion in Rome Influenced the Development of Culture
When most students and even some scholars study history, they view the past as
just a series of facts and occurrences. And unfortunately, this is more or less the
only way we are able to view history, simply because it has all happened many many
years ago. But if we were able to look at history the way we look at our lives today,
as not just a series of facts, but as a real era with real, living people, then we can
gain an enormous amount of insight into what a certain period in history was truly
like. We can begin to view history this way by studying how one event influences
another. One incredibly rich and marvelous culture to which you can apply this
method of studying history is Rome, and how it s religion affected the development
of culture.
Rome was a nation to which religion was immensely important, and it had a very
prominent place in society: so much so that it changed the face of the Roman Empire
forever. Religion and spirituality in Rome influenced all areas of daily life for
Romans, including social, political, economic, and governmental aspects.
One of the most visible ways Rome was affected by religion was in and through
society.
In Rome, there were many separations between the rich and the poor in society, but
religious rituals were one, if not the only thing that tied them together. No matter your
social status or
Essay on Albert Speer
Albert Speer
1. Born in March 19th 1905, and the middle child of three sons, you could say
Albert Speer had a life of a movie star. Having a father who was a successful
architect in Mannheim, and a mother who came from a wealthy family you would
say that the Speer family was more than well off. The Speer family had their own
cook, kitchen maid, chamber maid, butler, chauffer, nanny and governess; Albert
Speer was the upper class instead of the upper middle which he classified himself into.

Speer s decision on joining the Nazi party had an improvement of impact to his work
as an architect. Even though that didn t give him many opportunities to create
buildings it still gave home work in the field that he loved doing. Having been
given the chance to redecorate headquarters, Speer still had shown that he was a
willing and capable person to achieving anything and by doing so it had created
more jobs and had pushed him closer and closer into becoming a well know
architect. Having seen the plans for the Nuremburg rallies Speer, being a person to
welcome on challenges had stated that he could do better with the designs for the
rally. Speer had wanted to create a setting designed to impress the audience that
would make them walk into the stadium at night that then they were confronted with
a raised platform to which was draped with two huge black, white and red banners,
each taller than a 10 story building with a third swastika banner between them.
Illuminated by 130 searchlights this headed towards the heaven this cathedral of

marvelous in sight, this was one of Speer s memorable works, which had given him
his statue as a magnificent architect.

Through the use of Smalley s advance laser, laurites were able to create clusters of

was evaporated into an inert atmosphere at very high temperatures (The Discovery).
Their unique nanospheric structure gave birth to new questions, ultimately
expanding the field of practical uses in the real world today.
Buckypaper is a small molecular structure that is most commonly associated with the
shape of a soccer ball. About 1/50000th the diameter of a single human hair, this
incredibly small material possesses superior properties that make it a remarkably
great conductor for both heat and electricity (Ray B). Its small, yet effective,
attributes are a result of the powerful atomic bonds found within unique molecular
fibers of these nanostructures (Boyd J). About 100 times stronger than steel and only
one sixth of its total weight, buckypaper is the perfect replacement for all composite
materials currently used to construct aerodynamic crafts (Boyd J). The molecular size
of buckypaper s nanospheric structure has made production both a very tedious and
expensive task. Research is currently being done by students under the direction of
Dr. Ben Wang at Florida State University in hopes of creating practical, but
affordable, methods of buckminsterfullerene production for future commercial uses.

Should The Past Be Judged
Should the Past be Judged?
We can learn a lot from consulting the past. We learn more about our world, more
about our history, and even more about ourselves. Spanish aphorist George
Santayana once said: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat
it (qtd. in Moncur 1). In general terms, this famous aphorism means that it is
important for us to study and learn from history in order to avoid repeating the same
mistakes. However, the standards and values that we use today to judge the present
are much different than they were in the past. What may have seemed like the right
thing to do one hundred years ago might not be viewed the same way today. In her

Cody s Wild West showsweren t just used to preserve the buffalo species; they were
used to depict his actions as an Indian fighter. Buffalo Bill was a plainsman, but the
place he might have held on the picture plane of the West was severely
compromised and ultimately lost to the theatrical pretentions of the Wild West
Show (Momaday 638). For Cody, these shows were just a transformation into an
imitation of himself. The great fascination and peril of Cody s life was the riddle of
who he really was. The thing that opposed him, and perhaps betrayed him, was
above all else the mirage of his own identity (Momaday 631). In this essence, it is
important for us to judge the past. Despite his treatment of the Indians, Cody is still
an authentic American hero.
Buffalo Bill isn t the only figure in American history to be viewed in this
controversial manner. Consider the actions of Christopher Columbus after
discovering America. In 1492, Columbus set out on a voyage across the Atlantic
Ocean in an effort to prove that the world was round. After spending two months at
sea, Columbus finally reached what he thought was India but was actually Central
America. Columbus is credited for being the first to generate European awareness of
the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. His voyages eventually led to
the colonization of the Americas and the development of a modern world. After
Columbus, more and more explorers set out to the Americas,
Proposal of Director’s Interpretations for Romeo and
Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most well loved plays and the mastermind behind it
is none other than the great Shakespeare. This story has become one of the most
iconic tragic teen love stories of our time. It has been reinterpreted differently by
various people, each trying to present their own ideas and take of the play.
Therefore, as a director, we have a tricky job. How do we in a way add more to the
play? What is it that we can do to give our audience a fresh experience? Therefore,
this interpretation of the play, my interpretation, has been thoroughly thought about
to address all these concerns. I sincerely hope our audience has a wonderful
experience as we bring to light new concepts and ideas.
One of the biggest worries when reinterpreting the play is whether or not to change
is context; for our audience, as a director we must contemplate about whether or
not it is better to change the context to make it more applicable to our society or to
just leave it. However, in this case, I have decided to change the setting of the play
by modernizing it to be set in modern America. The modernization of the play will
allow for a new canvas where a whole new variety of ideas can be explored.
As I want to emphasise the extent of the violence and rivalry originally embedded in
the play, I have also decided to have the concept of gangs incorporated into my
interpretation of the play. The concept of gangs will also be a medium to expand on
the theme of the ancient grudge .

Intellectual Disability, Better, Or Better Known As ( Id )...
Intellectual Disability, better known as (ID) is a disorder. Most people who have
(ID), if not found out about in childhood, may get misdiagnosed. There are different
components that determine a person s diagnosis of Intellectual Disability. Genetic
factors (A person s genetic makeup); Prenatal issues and illnesses (before birth);
Childhood illnesses and issues as well as Environmental factors all play a part in the
determinant of Intellectual Disability(WebMD,2016). Because Intellectual Disability
is a neurodevelopmental disorder, it affects a person s intellectual and adaptive
functioning.
Testing of one s IQ (Intellectual Quotient) will determine their Intellectual level.
There are three levels of Intellectual disability. When there is Mild Intellectual
Disability, a person s (IQ) is below 70 (50 69) as well as impairments in two or more
adaptive areas. A person in this stage may not be discovered until they are of
school age In the second stage, Moderate Intellectual Disability, a person s (IQ) is
between the range of (35 49). Delays are noticeable very early in life because the
child may display a big delay in learning skills, such as walking and talking, which
are very big indicators of a Moderate Intellectual Disability. Those who have
Moderate Intellectual Disability usually live at home with parents or in some type of
supportive housing. Severe/Profound Intellectual Disability is the most serious. A
person s (IQ) is lower than 35, typically (20 30) and these
The Reign Of Ancient Greek Philosophers
Aristotle
The reign of ancient Greek philosophers was one that was remembered for centuries.
One philosopher stood out amongst the rest. He is known as Aristotle. Aristotle made
extremely significant contributions to human knowledge. His writings were
extremely incredible and he paved the way for philosophers long after him. Aristotle
was born in 384 B.C in a town called Stagira in the northern part of Greece. He was
born to a set of parents who were members of medical families. His father was a
physician to the King of Macedonia, but later died when Aristotle was a young boy.
Because his father was so close with the court of Macedonia, Aristotle was still
affiliated for the rest of his life. After the death of his father, Aristotle was left
without a guardian. His sister s, Arimneste, husband became his guardian until he
was legally old enough to take care of himself. Around the age of 17, he was sent
to Athens to get an education. Athens was known as the academic core of the
world. Aristotle enrolled in Plato s academy and was one of the top scholars. Plato
s academy was one of the top learning centers at the time. Aristotle formed a
relationship with Plato, who was a Greek philosopher, and taught at the academy for
20 years. Plato died in 347 B.C. Despite their relationship, Aristotle did not agree
with Plato s philosophy, so he did not become the director of the academy after Plato
s death. Aristotle left Athens, and then went to Mysia, a place he was invited to
Character Analysis Of Bart Simpson
There is fiction of all forms, from movies, books, television shows, anything you
can think of. With these things come fictional characters in which sometimes we
can get attached to and feel that we can easily relate to them in some many
levels. As a kid growing up my favorite fictional things were the television shows
and movies. Some shows for example where Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Danny
Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, etc., and as for movies I really enjoyed watching Spider
Man movies, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc. It was easy to find a character in
which I could personally relate too. The three fictional characters that most represent
my personality are Bart Simpson from The Simpsonsfor getting himself into trouble
but also mainly because he is a fast learner, Goofyfor his funny charismatic
personality, and Naruto for his determination of never giving up and proving to
people what he is capable of doing.
Firstly I would like to talk about how I think Goofy and I are similar. The A Goofy
Movie was a movie in which Goofy and his son go on a vacation for the summer.
The film has many scenes where Goofy obviously means well but you see he s
funny personality come out in the film as well as his amiable cluelessness. A

Summary Of Cathedral By Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Cathedral narrates the story of a blind man (Robert) who recently lost his wife and
traveled to visit her relatives in Connecticut. In his trip, the blind man visited the
girl who took care of him back in Seattle ten years ago, and who has developed a
very special friendship with her ever since. This girl, who took care of him all
summer, is now married to a guy named Bub who is not enthusiastic about the visit,
but annoyed.
The author of Cathedral , Raymond Carver, describes Bub at the beginning, as a
guy who is often lonely You don t have any friends, she said. Period indifferent Her
officer why should he have a name? and somehow ignorant since he sticks with
stereotypes about people. And his being blind bothered me. My idea of blindness
came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed.
Sometimes they were led by seeing eye dogs. A blind man in my house was not
something I looked forward to. By Bub s description, the author allows the readers
to easily connect and get familiarized with this character. Also, the readers
knowledge of Robert s hard situation and witnessing Bub s insensitive behavior
towards it, gives them the liberty to judge him and feel angry towards Bub,
converting him the villain of the story. Being aware of the tension in this meeting, the
readers can easily make an assumption about the ending of the story Bub insulting
Robert and making him leave .
But, as the night goes by, and both characters interact in a respectful way with each
other You say you when you want some strawberry pie, I said. I will, he said , the
readers doubt about the end that they previously speculated. Afterwards when Robert
and Bub have a close interaction He found my hand, the hand with the pen. He
closed his hand over my hand. Go ahead, bub, draw, he said. Draw. You ll see Bub s
initial perception changes. With this plot twist, Carver creates a dilemma on the
readers whether they sympathize with Bub or not and whether he continues to be that
ignorant and insensitive working class American that the readers thought he was or if
he is really different.
Besides, the author humanizes his characters the most. In his book, he includes the

August 23, 2014 Abstract
To many convicts in the United States the jail or prison is often times the first
resort of punishing. Legal teams do not research sentencing options; they like to
sentence an offender to the easiest place to do their time which is the jail. The jail
has the amenities that an inmate seeks or wants. They can get a shower, a warm
meal, and some clothes free of charge and get released the next day. If they go to
prison, the inmate can get all those perks, and get released years later. These
inmates that come to prison for small crimes, are causing the prison populations to
expand person by person. The cells are not designed more than two people , and the
shower can only one body in it at a time and of course the toilet is only designed for
buttock at time.
Jail and Prison should be the last resort, but in modern society it is the first resort
The Introduction
In today s society, there are a variety of sentencing options for the convicted felon.
Or the first time criminal who has no prior convictions, but because of going to a
party, he or she does something they would not have done and lands in the custody
of a state penal system. Since there are varieties of sentencing options available to a
potential detainee, then why does the United States have so many people stacked up
top on one another in its penal systems? The
Importance Of Capitalism Essay
There are different forms of government, and people have different opinions of
which form is right. There is capitalism which is an economic system in which a
country s trade and industry are controlled by private business owners for profit,
rather than by state. There is socialism, which is an economic system based on
governmentcontrol over the economy and equal distribution of wealth (could still be a
democracy. And communism, which is an economic and political system based on
one party government and state ownership of property (dictatorship). I personally
believe that capitalism is the best form of governmentfor 3 reasons: People need
freedom, it contributes to the economy, and encourages people to want better jobs.
In this essay, I will state my reasons for why I believe capitalism is the most
favorable. First, people need freedom. Capitalism is the only form of government
where people get the rights they deserve. With communist countries such as North
Korea and Vietnam, the government controls everything, including freedom of
speech, used of social media, the right to own houses and businesses, and all medical
goods. This is bad, especially for people who want to speak out because they believe
they are being treated unfairly. In socialism, people have more freedom than
communism. However, the government still has control of a lot of things such as
businesses and other things concerning the economy. With capitalism, the
government controls laws and
How To Read As A Reader
As a reader, I have always struggled. From the first time, I began to read to now. We
never understood why until I was in sixth grade. In sixth grade, I was tested for
dyslexia and as a result we found out I was dyslexic. Through my grade school and
high school years We did everything and anything to help me to read better.
When I was child, I loved having books read to me, but never read them out loud. I
loved whenever we read One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish and Chicka Chicka
Boom Boom. When I would have these books read to me I did not understand why
the letters did not make sense to me to make real words. I would try to sound them
out but could not come up with a real word when I did. I started to memorize the
books I loved because my parents would ask what certain words are and I did not
know. All through the beginning years of grade schoolI was two to three years behind
in my reading level. I thought this was normal because my teachers never tried to
help me improve. In sixth grade, we would have to read a book out loud to the rest of
our classmates, I hated this. I could pronounce the easiest of words. And the words I
could pronounce I read so slow. A few weeks after this we found out I was dyslexic.

Slang Is So Popular With The Younger Generations
The way in which we speak changes drastically depending on the situation,
environment we are in and who we are speaking to. The use of slang in today s
society is increasingly becoming more and more common. However, this new,
modern way of speaking also comes with negative connotations. For this reason,
people have had to learn to adapt their speech to their situation. I will be discussing
the reasons behind the use of slang, why some people disapprove of it and I will
analyse how people change the way in which they speak depending on their
situation. Many young people use slang in order to fit in with their peers. Because
slang is mainly spoken by younger people, the use of it almost puts up a barrier
between children and adults. This barrier gives the youth a sense of rebellion. This
may be one of the reasons why slang is so popular with the younger generations,
this feeling gives them a sense of freedom and independence. Additionally, this
may also be one of the reasons why many people disapprove of the use of slang.
Some people believe that the use of slang suggests bad manners and morals, this
leads to them distrusting people who use slang. People also believe that the
common use of slang is causing the deterioration of Standard English. This can

Two Kinds Literary Analysis
Amy Tan story, Two Kinds , uses character development, conflict, flashback, and
symbolism to express the love of one s mother. This story starts off with the mother
(Suyuan Woo) and daughter (Jing Mei) trying to find something that the daughter can
get really good at. They find one that there interested in but after a couple of sessions
they found out that it wasn t right for her daughter. So they try to do others things
like the piano, but after several sessions with Mr. Chong her mothersaw that her
daughter wasn t improving on playing the piano. Her mom kept urging her to practice
more and get better but Jing Mei had just about enough of this and started to rebel
against her mom. After several; arguments Jing Mei and her mother just stopped...

At first Jing Mei was getting excited about learning new things. For Example, Tan
wrote In fact, in the beginning, I was just as excited as my mother, maybe even
more so. I pictured this prodigy part of me as many different images. Jing Mei is
really excited to do many new things. She thinks that she can actually become a
prodigy and that makes her very excited. As time went by Jing Mei messes up on a
few things and that upsets her mother. To show how Jing Mei gradually changes
Tans wrote After seeing my mother s disappointed face once again, something
inside of me began to die. I hated the tests, the raised hopes and failed expectation.
(265). At this point she is already having thoughts that becoming a prodigy is
almost impossible because she can perform to her mother s expectations. Jing Mei
breaking point was after the piano recital because she has had enough of this
disappointment from her mother. Tans wrote You want me to be someone that I m
not! I sobbed. I ll never be the kind of daughter you want me to be! (270). This
shows that Jing Mei has had enough of this and wants to stop but her mother won t
let her. Her mother stated that Only two kinds of daughters, those who are obedient
and those who follow their own mind! Only one kind of daughter can live in this
house. Obedient daughter! (270). So Jing Mei responded to her by saying Then I

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of mechanical properties of 17 4PH stainless steel
parts built by selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing process with the
wrought 17 4PH stainless steel parts. The microstructure is analyzed using optical
microscope and the mechanical properties are evaluated using tensile testing
according to ASTM E8 standard. Overall, the SLM fabricated samples demonstrated
superior tensile properties and the microstructure is strongly influenced by the SLM
process. The SLM processed specimens showed higher ductility and ultimate tensile
strength than wrought samples.

CAVE PAINTINGS: CHAVUET CAVE
Art and the ability to think of concepts is what distinguishes our species from other
animals capabilities that also led us to use fire, develop the wheel and come up

Cave paintings change ideas about the origin of art, n.d.)The discoveries of cave
art defied the then dominant view of cultural progress as something that gradually
proceeded from a savage ancient past to the civilization of the present (Lewis,
Jurmain, Kilgore, 2013, p. xx) The origins of art cannot simply be pegged to the
latest discovery of ancient paintings or sculpture (Balter, 2009, p. xx) In these cave

Persuasive Essay On Zero Tolerance Policy
Time and time again it s been proven that the best way to deal with a disturbance is
to just get rid of it. It only makes sense that this rule be applied to humans all
throughout American schools. A zero tolerance policy (ZTP) is the most direct and
effortless way to dispose of unwanted students. It is only fair that the administrators
issuing these legitimate sanctions have free will to dice out any retribution they deem
necessary. Zero tolerancepolicies encourage students to learn from their mistakes
and help improve their general quality of life. If a student isn t expelled how else
is he/she supposed to know that what they did was incredibly wrong. Besides, we
only want the cream of the crop when it comes to who is representing our school,
and these policies give admin the power to weed out the undesirables. Where do
these kids go? Who cares, it s not like a kid who skipped one day of class can
amount to anything. Plus if the crime committed is heinous enough schools are
able to get law enforcement involved to make sure students are dealt with properly.
I absolutely detest doodles. Images drawn in places they shouldn t be can provoke
unrest among growing minds causing possible violent and illegal tendencies in the
child. Weather it be in a notebook, on the bathroom stall, even when drawn on
school desks. In 2010, twelve year old Alexa Gonzalez, ruthlessly defaced a desk in a
New York School. The little vermin wrote I love my friends Abby and Faith on the
desk. She

A Comparison And Contrast Essay Examples

  • 1. A Comparison And Contrast Essay Examples Crafting a comparison and contrast essay can be a challenging endeavor that demands both analytical prowess and effective communication skills. The difficulty lies not just in gathering relevant information but also in presenting a coherent narrative that highlights the similarities and differences between the subjects under scrutiny. One of the initial challenges is selecting suitable subjects for comparison. This involves identifying two entities with enough commonalities to draw meaningful parallels, yet distinct features that allow for a comprehensive exploration. The research process itself can be time- consuming, as it requires delving into multiple sources to acquire a nuanced understanding of the chosen subjects. Once the research is complete, organizing the essay becomes a daunting task. Deciding on a structure that effectively conveys the comparison and contrast, whether it be a point-by-point analysis or a subject-by-subject approach, demands careful consideration. Ensuring a logical flow that guides the reader through the essay without confusion is pivotal. The writing process itself poses its own set of challenges. Crafting a compelling introduction that captures the reader's attention, followed by a clear and concise thesis statement, is a critical aspect. Striking a balance between presenting factual information and weaving in insightful analysis is a delicate art that requires finesse. Transitions between paragraphs are equally vital, as they help maintain the coherence of the essay. Juggling between highlighting similarities and differences while avoiding repetition demands meticulous attention to detail. Each comparison and contrast should contribute to the overall understanding without becoming redundant. Lastly, concluding the essay with a synthesis of the key points and leaving a lasting impression on the reader requires a strategic approach. Summarizing the main arguments and possibly suggesting broader implications or areas for further exploration adds depth to the conclusion. In summary, writing a comparison and contrast essay involves a multifaceted process, from the meticulous selection of subjects to the intricate task of organizing and presenting information. It is a challenge that demands not only academic acumen but also effective communication skills. If you find yourself struggling with such tasks, it's worth noting that assistance is available. Henry Mancini was the composer for Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. While these two films may seem like they don t connect with each other at any point, they do and it is with Henry Mancini. By examining Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s through the lens of Henry Mancini s music choices we can see that Mancini s music choices were just as important as Blake Edwards, director. The discussion about big dicks isn t all that engaging. The overall tension works best in the opening. The conflict and tension in the second act can be stronger if there s more of an urgency and ticking clock. The current pace hinders this. The tension doesn t enhance again until the midpoint. • 5. Homelessness And Its Effects On Society It s time to declare a war on homelessness, which is evolving into a crisis, proclaimed Mayor Kirk Caldwell in The Honolulu Star Advertiser. (Katel, 841 864) Homelessness has become a widely known issue in the United States. Many people today are living in the streets without a source of food, water, or a place to sleep at night. Some who are among the homeless include the elderly, children, and those who are mentally ill. This is a cause for concern for citizens who are living their daily lives. Some people express their fear of homeless persons, believing that they are just beggars for money and take up space on the streets. Although the description homeless people is not always true, homelessnessdoes affect society and puts the future generation at risk of becoming homeless as well. People need to bring attention to the homeless problem across the United States so action can be taken and change will take place. Homelessness can be divided into two groups: people who are homeless, and those who are chronically homeless. According to The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), homelessness includes those who are living in dwellings unfit for human habitation, in emergency shelters or temporary housing, and/or leaving such a place. (Katel, 841 864) On the other hand, those who are considered chronically homeless are usually homeless for one or more years and have a disability or some kind of addiction. Figurative Language In O Southland Although Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and African Americans were instilled with great purpose, they still struggled to lay claim to their freedom due to the unwillingness of the South to let go. This physical struggle was represented in Johnson s poem O Southland! The poem begins with the speaker being sympathetic towards the African Americanrace and asking Southland a series of rhetorical questions. The repetition of O Southland! Perhaps, the speaker comments that the world is young again because African American children are no longer expected to be men. Additionally, perhaps the speaker says that men are in their rightful place because now God is the only ruler of a race. In stanza 4, the speaker takes pride in the fact that Southland is his home by saying my Southland! O birthland ( Southland 4.25,26). Similarly, the speaker s tone shifts as he recognizes Southland, saddened by the fact that Southland is not recognizing him. The speaker urges Southland to live up to the obligations they have made America has made. They should not be prideful in pushing around the weak. In this then, one must revisit the previously posed inquiry: is the narrator reproducing the degrading racial hierarchy that labels the other as inferior, or are they persuading the reader to question it? Phraseology such as diabolical cunning to describe their plans not only contradicts the notion that they are a rudimentary people, it also encourages a questioning of the connotations of savagery as it is used throughout the work (174). The use of phlegmatic as an adjective to portray the manner in which they should deal pale death suggests that they are inhumane and emotionless creatures (174). Then, it is not surprising to learn that music is closely related to math. The mathematical application in music will be discussed in this essay. Rhythm and Frequency To understand the relation between math and music, the primary step is to study the nature of rhythm, frequency and amplitude. Everything around us has its own pattern of rhythm, from the motion of protons and neutrons, to the beats in rock music. According to Garland (1995), rhythm is determined by the periodicity of vibration of certain object in its surrounding substance, or medium (p. 28). The vibration is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amplitude refers to the distance from crest or trough of the wave to its equilibrium position. Garland (1995) stated, frequency is a term that describes the number of waves, or vibrations, that pass a given point per second (p. 28). It is inversely proportional to the wavelength, which is the distance of one wave cycle. Frequency can be evaluated in the pitch of a tone: a higher pitch has a higher frequency. A simple tone has constant frequency and amplitude, and its graph is similar to a sine curve. Tones that are more complicated result from combinations of several simple curves. The smallest pure tone frequency in complex tunes is called fundamental frequency. Integer multiples of the fundamental frequency make the resultant tone musical. The graph below shows the frequency data from A3 to A4 key. Note that A4 key has twice as much frequency as A3 key, because any two keys that are one octaveapart have the frequency ratio of 2:1. Further inspection shows that two adjacent notes are in the ratio of 1.059... For example: Freq. of A#3 / freq. of A3 = 233.1 Hz / 220 Hz = 1.059... Freq. of C4 / freq. of B3 = 261.6 Hz/ 246.9 Hz = 1.059... Freq. of G4 / freq. of F#4 = 392.0 Hz / 370.0 Hz = 1.059... The examples show that the frequency of any note is a product of the frequency of the adjacent note before it and the constant number 1.059. Proof: Let an octave start from key A. The ratio of frequency between adjacent keys is h. Then,

What is the probability that you end up in your seat (i.e., seat #100)?. Solution: Let s consider seats #1 and #100. There are two possible outcomes: E1: Seat #1 is taken before #100; E2: Seat #100 is taken before #1. If any passenger takes seat #100 before #1 is taken, surely you will not end up in you own seat. But if any passenger takes #1 before #100 is taken, you will definitely end up in you own seat. By symmetry, either outcome has a probability of 0.5. So the probability that you end up in your seat is 50%. Explanation: If the drunk passenger takes #1 by chance, then it s clear all the rest of the passengers will have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. The probabilities that he takes #1 or #100 are equal. Otherwise assume that he takes the n th seat, where n is a number between 2 and 99. Everyone between 2 and (n 1) will get his own seat. That means the n th passenger essentially becomes the new drunk guy with designated seat #1. If he chooses #1, all the rest of the passengers will have the correct seats. If he takes #100, then you will not get your seat. (The probabilities that he takes #1 or #100 are again

The cons for Tata are challenges from other competitors since they share the risk with each other and unclearly market shares. The last action Tata may choose is complementary strategic. Tata can grow a competitive advantage if they purchase Jaguar and Land Rover. The pro in this situation is that it can bring the well known brands emerging in the Indian car market an opportunity. • 22. The Effects Of Alcohol On The Health Alcohol is one of the most popular and socially acceptable consumed drug around the world. It is consumed for several different reasons for example to relax or socialize. It affects the health of people in many ways which is usually depended on how much alcohol is consumed over a period of time. The term health has different meanings to different people, depending on what situations they are in. However, according to the World Health Organisation (1948), the definition of health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not just the absence of disease, which encapsulates the idea of the term health status. Taking this definition of health into consideration, this essay will be looking at how alcohol affects a person physically, mentally and socially and how that affects their overall health status. Alcohol consumption, when consumed moderately, is not always a problem and a risk to health. However, when alcohol consumption starts to get out of hand and people start to misuse alcohol, it is then, that it becomes a major problem. Some of these problems could be physiological while others could be more social or economic related. A report published by public health England (2014) stated that the annual cost to the NHS as a result of alcohol misuse, is ВЈ3.5 billion and the overall cost to society is ВЈ21 billion each year. There are many theories which try to explain what the cause of alcohol misuse may be but none of these are backed by clear
  • 23. Rhetorical Analysis Thoreau Questions on Rhetoric and Style: 1. Describe the tone Thoreau establishes in paragraph 2. How does it contribute to the rhetorical effect of the paragraph? In paragraph two, Thoreau uses a depressing, problematic and facetious tone to get his message across. Thoreau explains how he is strongly against the United States government, and also points out problems of the government. Thoreau uses depressing diction when describing the problems of the government in order to make people feel hatred toward the government and realize how problematic it actually is. Thoreau uses Power of Three to exemplify the problems of the government, and further connects with the audience on an emotional level by pointing out how the citizens help lead to the countries problematic state. Thoreau s use of inappropriate humor when he explains trade makes the United States government seem trivial and almost as a lost cause due to the problems caused by the leaders. His relation of such a serious topic to a comical reference makes it an easier to understand situation. The use of this specific tone creates a more impactful rhetorical effect that is relayed in the paragraph. 3. Thoreau develops many analogies to support his arguments (e.g., in paras. 8 and 9). Select three, and explain whether you find them convincing. How effectively does each one support the claim Thoreau is using it to support? Thoreau s use of analogies to support his arguments are very beneficial in getting his point

Barrington, Illinois, my home town, is the picture of upper middle class suburbia. It is a town with very little inequality, and very little diversity, but one which reveals some basic truths about inequality in America. One must first look at a snapshot of what Barrington socioeconomic structure is, then evaluate this structure through the theories of inequality. After these, and a quick evaluation of preconceived notions on Barrington s inequality versus the real data, and a comparison of Barrington s data to that of the United Statesas a whole, some conclusions can be drawn. These data reveal a strong correlation between Barrington s lack of economic inequality, and lack of demographic and social diversity. Barrington, Illinois is what many would consider to be a very economically homogeneous city, a vital characteristic in examining its inequality (or lack thereof). It is one of the generally more wealthy cities in the State of Illinois, with a median household income of $106,127, and a relatively low poverty rate at only nine point two percent (U.S. Census Bureau 2014b). Marie Hull Mr. Santini Global H 16 March 2015 How Religion in Rome Influenced the Development of Culture When most students and even some scholars study history, they view the past as just a series of facts and occurrences. And unfortunately, this is more or less the only way we are able to view history, simply because it has all happened many many years ago. But if we were able to look at history the way we look at our lives today, as not just a series of facts, but as a real era with real, living people, then we can gain an enormous amount of insight into what a certain period in history was truly like. We can begin to view history this way by studying how one event influences another. One incredibly rich and marvelous culture to which you can apply this method of studying history is Rome, and how it s religion affected the development of culture. Rome was a nation to which religion was immensely important, and it had a very prominent place in society: so much so that it changed the face of the Roman Empire forever. Religion and spirituality in Rome influenced all areas of daily life for Romans, including social, political, economic, and governmental aspects. One of the most visible ways Rome was affected by religion was in and through society. In Rome, there were many separations between the rich and the poor in society, but religious rituals were one, if not the only thing that tied them together. No matter your social status or

Spanish aphorist George Santayana once said: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it (qtd. in Moncur 1). In general terms, this famous aphorism means that it is important for us to study and learn from history in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes. However, the standards and values that we use today to judge the present are much different than they were in the past. What may have seemed like the right thing to do one hundred years ago might not be viewed the same way today. In her essay At the Buffalo Bill Museum, June 1988, Jane Tompkins ... Buffalo Bill was a plainsman, but the place he might have held on the picture plane of the West was severely compromised and ultimately lost to the theatrical pretentions of the Wild West Show (Momaday 638). For Cody, these shows were just a transformation into an imitation of himself. The great fascination and peril of Cody s life was the riddle of who he really was. The thing that opposed him, and perhaps betrayed him, was above all else the mirage of his own identity (Momaday 631). In this essence, it is important for us to judge the past. Despite his treatment of the Indians, Cody is still an authentic American hero. Buffalo Bill isn t the only figure in American history to be viewed in this controversial manner. Consider the actions of Christopher Columbus after discovering America. In 1492, Columbus set out on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in an effort to prove that the world was round. After spending two months at sea, Columbus finally reached what he thought was India but was actually Central America. This story has become one of the most iconic tragic teen love stories of our time. It has been reinterpreted differently by various people, each trying to present their own ideas and take of the play. Therefore, as a director, we have a tricky job. How do we in a way add more to the play? What is it that we can do to give our audience a fresh experience? Therefore, this interpretation of the play, my interpretation, has been thoroughly thought about to address all these concerns. I sincerely hope our audience has a wonderful experience as we bring to light new concepts and ideas. One of the biggest worries when reinterpreting the play is whether or not to change is context; for our audience, as a director we must contemplate about whether or not it is better to change the context to make it more applicable to our society or to just leave it. However, in this case, I have decided to change the setting of the play by modernizing it to be set in modern America. The modernization of the play will allow for a new canvas where a whole new variety of ideas can be explored. As I want to emphasise the extent of the violence and rivalry originally embedded in the play, I have also decided to have the concept of gangs incorporated into my interpretation of the play. The concept of gangs will also be a medium to expand on the theme of the ancient grudge . The

Legal teams do not research sentencing options; they like to sentence an offender to the easiest place to do their time which is the jail. The jail has the amenities that an inmate seeks or wants. They can get a shower, a warm meal, and some clothes free of charge and get released the next day. If they go to prison, the inmate can get all those perks, and get released years later. These inmates that come to prison for small crimes, are causing the prison populations to expand person by person. The cells are not designed more than two people , and the shower can only one body in it at a time and of course the toilet is only designed for buttock at time. Jing Mei breaking point was after the piano recital because she has had enough of this disappointment from her mother. Tans wrote You want me to be someone that I m not! I sobbed. I ll never be the kind of daughter you want me to be! (270). This shows that Jing Mei has had enough of this and wants to stop but her mother won t let her. Her mother stated that Only two kinds of daughters, those who are obedient and those who follow their own mind! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient daughter! (270). So Jing Mei responded to her by saying Then I wish I d never been born ... I wish

The microstructure is analyzed using optical microscope and the mechanical properties are evaluated using tensile testing according to ASTM E8 standard. Overall, the SLM fabricated samples demonstrated superior tensile properties and the microstructure is strongly influenced by the SLM process. The SLM processed specimens showed higher ductility and ultimate tensile strength than wrought samples. 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. • 42. Persuasive Essay On Zero Tolerance Policy Time and time again it s been proven that the best way to deal with a disturbance is to just get rid of it. It only makes sense that this rule be applied to humans all throughout American schools. A zero tolerance policy (ZTP) is the most direct and effortless way to dispose of unwanted students. It is only fair that the administrators issuing these legitimate sanctions have free will to dice out any retribution they deem necessary. Zero tolerancepolicies encourage students to learn from their mistakes and help improve their general quality of life. If a student isn t expelled how else is he/she supposed to know that what they did was incredibly wrong. Besides, we only want the cream of the crop when it comes to who is representing our school, and these policies give admin the power to weed out the undesirables. Where do these kids go? Who cares, it s not like a kid who skipped one day of class can amount to anything. Plus if the crime committed is heinous enough schools are able to get law enforcement involved to make sure students are dealt with properly. I absolutely detest doodles. Images drawn in places they shouldn t be can provoke unrest among growing minds causing possible violent and illegal tendencies in the child. Weather it be in a notebook, on the bathroom stall, even when drawn on school desks. In 2010, twelve year old Alexa Gonzalez, ruthlessly defaced a desk in a New York School.
