Research Essay Introduction Examples
Writing an essay on the topic of "Research Essay Introduction Examples" can be quite
challenging for several reasons. First and foremost, the task requires a comprehensive
understanding of the intricacies involved in crafting an effective research essay introduction.
This includes familiarity with various writing styles, knowledge of the specific requirements of
academic essays, and the ability to engage the reader from the very beginning.
Moreover, finding suitable examples to illustrate the key elements of a research essay
introduction can be a time-consuming process. It requires extensive research to identify well-
crafted introductions that not only capture the reader's attention but also set the stage for the rest
of the essay. Sorting through numerous examples to find those that align with the specific focus
of the essay adds an additional layer of complexity to the task.
Crafting an original and compelling introduction while avoiding clichГ©s and ensuring a unique
perspective further adds to the difficulty. Striking the right balance between providing
background information, stating the research problem, and outlining the scope of the essay is a
delicate task that demands precision and clarity.
Additionally, the process of writing itself involves multiple drafts and revisions to refine ideas,
structure, and language. It requires the writer to critically assess their work and make necessary
adjustments to meet the standards of a well-executed research essay introduction.
In conclusion, the difficulty of writing an essay on the topic of "Research Essay Introduction

Pre-Calculus Research Paper
Prior to taking Pre Calculus I had taken College Algebra which has helped me
tremendously with the objectives of Pre Calculus. I learned basic algebra skills that
helped me advance in solving the objectives needed for the advancement of the
course. I am currently working for a construction framing business in which some
math skills are required. I plan on obtaining a major in structural engineering and a
minor in mechanical. The CollegeAlgebra class thought me how to add, subtract,
divide, and multiply fractions which I had always had difficulty with. I have yet to
master the skill, but because of Pre CalculusI am receiving a lot of practice, which
has helped me comprehend how to solve the math. College Algebra helped me
understand that math is basically a puzzle that needs to be solved with steps, because
of this understanding the math has become fun to solve. After solving a problem in
class that my other classmates have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before deciding that I wanted to become an engineer, the thought of needing math
in the future was never important to me. Since deciding my future I obtained a job
in construction framing to have a hands on feeling of how buildings should be
built. That is when I was truly enlighten in the need to understand math. To build a
building two of the hardest things to accomplish is the roof of the building which
has to have a slope, and an arc if the building were to have any luxury. The roof
requires a downward slope to get rid of water and debris, but to find the slope a
basic knowledge if trigonometry must be obtained first, which is where Pre
Calculus helped me understand the math to create the roof of a building. The arcs
within the building are used to dress up the building and make it look luxurious. The
arcs would have never been possible without learning the angle and arc length which

Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport
As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been
here a number of times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination,
which isn t too hard to find. The airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting
their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a hot dogstand selling overpriced
hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for each of my
brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough.
Maybe he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each
hotdog. I sit at one of the seats that linethe aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside
me my brothers sit and eat their own hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty
much like most of the airport. The time comes to board the plane, the small space is
filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you can see is the
dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do
my best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San
Francisco. I step off the plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport
much larger than the one in Kahului. The much more calm feeling of the island is
replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite honestly it s a tad
strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from
one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes
A Member Of The Zygophyllaceae
A member of the Zygophyllaceae (caltrop) family, the creosote bush, Larrea
tridentata, belongs to a flowering plant family of more than 250 members worldwide,
many of which are native to desert regions. Creosote bush is abundant in three of the
four North American deserts, i.e. the Mojave, the Sonoran, and the Chihuahuan
Deserts. In the United States, L. tridentata occurs in the states of Arizona, California,
Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
Most Agassiz s desert tortoises, Gopherus agassizii, regardless of the specific
locality they inhabit, live in a type of desert biome known as creosote bush scrub.

While conducting research on desert tortoise burrows, a team of scientists
documented 31 species as commensals (Walde, Walde, Delaney, Pater, 2009).
However, it is likely that many more species share the shelter of the tortoise s burrow.
With the camphor like fragrance of the resinous coating on its leaves that volatilizes
when rainfall occurs, the creosote bush imparts a fresh, pleasant smell of rain to the
parched desert ecosystems it inhabits (Flores, 2013). On the contrary, the pesticide
/wood preservative creosote oil is a petroleum based product that has nothing to do
with the desert shrub creosote bush. Creosote oil is a toxic substance distilled from
coal tar and used to preserve railroad crossties, marine and foundation timbers, and the
like.
Identification
A slow growing evergreen shrub with a wide distribution in the North American
deserts, L. tridentata is first and foremost a shelter source, providing shade and cover
for numerous desert organisms, both flora and fauna.
An extremely long lived shrub, each individual plant may live as long as 100 to 200
years. The wild creosote bush typically reaches a height of 3 to 8 feet (1 to 2.4
meters) with an equal spread.

How To Obtain A Search Warrant
The fourth amendment deals with search and seizure. Although they go hand and
hand, they are two different things. In order to do a search you need to obtain a
search warrant. A search warrant is a permission, signed by a judge that allows law
enforcement to enter private property to look for certain items. It is addressed to the
owner of the property, notifying them that a judge decided that the certain item with
be found there. In order to obtain a search warrant, law enforcement must show that
there is probable cause to believe a search is needed. Judges, considering the
circumstances, will decided whether to sign off on it or not. It is illegal for law
enforcement to search anything without a warrant. With search warrants, comes
arrest warrants. An arrest warrant is an official document, signed by a judge, which
authorizes law enforcement to arrest whoever is on the warrant. To obtain an arrest
warrant, law enforcement submits a written affidavit to a judge, showing facts that a
crime was committed and the person named in the warrant committed it.... Show

For laws, you would need to look at the state s statues. In Connecticut s General
Statues, a search warrant deals with tangible items. In order to obtain one, law
enforcement must show a judge that there is probable cause to believe that the
property will show the person have committed an offence. A warrant can also be
issued by an affidavit. A judge, themselves, can issue a search warrant. An arrest
warrant is somewhat the same. It can be issued by a judge or the governor. The
offender might have fled from justice, or is being convicted of a crime to have an
arrest warrant against them. They could have also escaped or broken the terms of
bail, probation, or parole. Someone can also come before a judge and show that an
arrest needs to be made. This bring us to a

Introduction:
There has always been tension raised between maintaining a safe society and
observing by the constitutional rights of its citizens. The New York City aggressive
program of Stop and Frisk have been widely criticized and considered
unconstitutional. However, Stop and Frisk, per se is not unconstitutional unless
people are being stopped illegally. It s a crime prevention tool that allows police
officers to stop a person based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and to
conduct a frisk based on reasonable suspicion that the person is armed. Some argue
this policy was created to target minorities. Most of the people who have been
stopped and frisked under this program have been African American or Hispanic.
This concerns citizens and makes them oppose the policy because they believe its
racial profiling and guided by color. Stop and frisk is now one of the biggest
controversies in United States. It has become something that is affecting society in
both a positive and negative way.

Immanuel Kant And Edward Bullough s Analysis Of The
Beautiful
Immanuel Kant and Edward Bullough both express their opinions between the
agreeable and the beautiful in their own personal writings, The Analytic of the
Beautiful and Psychical Distance , respectively. Each writer states their own criterion
of the beautiful, and both distinguish why the difference between the beautiful and
the agreeable is important. Edward Bullough s theory is that to distinguish between
the beautiful and the agreeable there must be a distance from practical reasoning:
Distance is produced in the first instance by putting the phenomenon, so to speak, out
of gear with our practical, actual self; by allowing it to stand outside the context of
our personal needs and ends. (Bullough 298 299) Immanuel Kants theory, The
agreeable is what gratifies a man; the beautiful what simply pleases him; the good
what is esteemed (approved), i.e., that on which he sets an... Show more content on

Psychical distance refers to the relationships that one has with an object or work of
art. Bullough believes that distance is the key feature of aesthetic consciousness
separating both the beautiful and the agreeable. He uses distance as the criterion
distinguishing between the two, explaining that to truly and honestly appreciate the
art, you must dissociate from a practical mindset. You must create a distance from
your own mind and perspective, and also create a distance from the object you are
observing. Moreover, Bullough states that the person critiquing the artwork must look
at the artwork for what the artist intended. Therefore, you must be distance from
particular emotions that trigger personal or moral concerts. As a consequence, this
means that your distanced view of things cannot be your normal outlook; however,
this does not mean that you must change your opinion, it only means that you must
open yourself up to new ideas and perspectives to gain a new appreciation of

The members of the Duke Lacrosse team did not have much support from the faculty
as the accusations were the headliners for many major media outlets. The impact of
these allegations by the Duke Lacrosse team was tremendous. The President of the
University Richard Brodhead canceled the entire season and called the situation
sickening and repulsive (Jennings, 2009, p. 568). Once again the support from the
highest level at Duke University was not there for the three members of the lacrosse
team at the center of the allegations. The African American accuser Crystal Mangum
had support from the NAACP, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and the Durham County
District Attorney Mike Nifong. The coach of the team also resigned from his job as
the season was canceled. Mr. Nifong from the beginning of the investigation seemed
to have his mind set on convicting these white males of the allegations they faced
from the accuser. The unethical manner in which Mike Nifong proceeded in the
investigation tested the judicial system. The tactics that were used in the case
undermined that you are innocent until proven guilty. A Duke was facing a crisis
little did the judicial system in North Carolina know that they were about to have
their work cut out for them as Mr. Nifong continued his journey to find these three
lacrosse players guilty. According to

Environmental Questions Minerals Society uses metals that come from mineral
deposits to make buildings, pipes, wires, vehicles, and other products (Mathes,
2004). Other minerals are also used to produce products, such as using clay for
bricks, sulfur to make fertilizer and refine petroleum, and oil, coal, and natural gas
are used for energy. Metallic minerals are hard, contain their own shine or luster,
are ductile and malleable (capable of being hammered thin and extended without
breakage), and do not break when hit where non metallic minerals are just the
opposite (Daga). An example of metallic minerals is tin, which can be used to
make cans to preserve food as well as other products. An example of non metallic
minerals is marble, used to make counter tops and decorative pieces. Mining
Depending on how deep into the earth the minerals are that are to be extracted,
explosives are used to blast rock into smaller pieces and heavy machinery brings it
out of the earth from the tunnels that are formed by the explosives. The minerals
are then processed by a separation method to be refined into products. The
processing includes heating the metals after separation to temperatures that reach
1600 degrees to be formed. For metals that are on the surface of the earth, a process
of booming is used where water is collected into large reservoirs and discharged in
large amounts to remove large amounts of gravel in a thick mud state to show where
the minerals are. For minerals
Earth Day Is An Annual Events That Happen
Earth Day is an annual events that happen on April 22th in every year. It is a mark in
the history, also the environment field. On April 22th, 1970, it woke everyone that
human need to protect the environment they are living today (The History of Earth
Day | Earth Day Network). This brought the caution to people that we need to aware
the environmental concerns from now. The EarthDay can bring more knowledge and
information to educate people. It also reminds people years and years that we need
to do everything and protect the world we only have before it is too late.
Forty six years later, there are more and more countries, organizations, schools and
others institutions join activities which help protect the environment. For instance,
cut the electricity for an hour, planets more trees, and build up protect areas. The
government also release many laws to enforce the protection such as Clean Water Act
and Clean Air Act.

Truck Preventative Maintenance
Diesel trucks are built tough They can run with incredible reliability for hundreds of
thousands of miles, but only if they are properly cared for. With all of their power and
strength, diesel trucks can demand quite the attention if they are not properly
maintained.
An older TV commercial featured an auto mechanic that looked into the viewer s
eyes and said, Pay me now, or pay me later. He was trying to convey to the audience
that you can pay him today to maintain your car or you can pay him a large amount
of money later for repairs. This is excellent advice, even today. Truckpreventative

James Levine Essay
Capping a career spanning 40 years as musical director for the Metropolitan Opera,
with over 2,500 performances and 85 operas conducted, James Levine is to conduct
one of his favorite operas, Die EntfГјhrung aus dem Serail as his final work before
retiring to the new position of Musical Director Emeritus. In the final dress rehearsal,
on the twentieth of April, Levine conducted the piece with the energy, eccentricity,
and excellence known nearly exclusively to him in his field. In the rehearsal, Levine,
as well as the standout coloratura soprano Albina Shagimuratova as Konstanze and
bass Hans Peter König as Osmin, displayed the gravitas and mastery of the Mozart
operato perfection. When W. A. Mozart was a young boy, he was toured around
Europe s courts as a prodigy by his father, Leopold Mozart. Although tumultuous and
nerve wracking for the young boy, his traveling did provide him with the different

The set designer, Jocelyn Herbert, through various pastel colors and Arabic
architectural motifs, very clearly articulates the middle eastern atmosphere. The set is
also designed perfectly in a fashion so that it does nothing to subtract from the
context of the opera itself, but rather adds color and substance to the action without
requiring the audience to suspend very much disbelief. The costumes for the opera,
also designed by Ms. Herbert, were brilliant; the colors of the clothes of the Turks
matched their colorful surroundings, whilst the European characters were dressed in
more monochrome, but elegant garments that clearly distinguishes between the two.
Along with the setting and costume, the blocking of the opera is also very well
done. The stage manager, John Dexter, was very clear to make each movement
sensical, whether it be for the libretto or the music, as opposed to some operas in
which movements are extremely grandiose and
Women s Rights Argument
Her work would emphasize the commonalities of the sexes, not their differences.
She also deemphasized the differences between races and sex. She referred to the
Constitution s wording when speaking of or defending women s rights by using
phrases such as the people, citizens, and persons. She also took a different
approach when addressing her audiences. Unlike most female reformers of the
time, she used a more masculine style of delivery. She delivered her own speeches
directly, addressed both sexes of audiences while in public, and used debates,
lectures, and oratory to make her arguments. This was uncommon since most women
of the time relied on male family and friends for their support. However, she did not
rely solely upon logic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She moved from Boston to Seneca Falls in the year 1847, and this is where she
would give her first public lecture. It was a temperance inspired speech with a
mixture of women s rights woven in. The Married Womans Property Act passed in
New York at the beginning of the next year, and it was one that Stanton had pushed
for and endorsed, and she soon found herself in a position to lead a public movement.
While attending a tea party with new friends, and sympathizing women, they
spontaneously agreed upon holding a Women s Rights Convention to discuss the
social, civil, and religious conditions and rights of women. This convention was
rooted in economic and social instability, along with revolutions in industrialization,
transportation, and technology. None of the women had ever organized a
convention before, and they gave themselves only eight days to prepare for it.
Stanton wrote up a speech and a resolution, and on July 19, she proposed her
Declaration of Sentiments. The women debated on it all day, and then invited the
public, including men, to join them the next. Stanton delivered it publicly, expressing
civil and political rights of women in work, education and the church. The
declaration was adopted and signed, and the resolutions were endorsed. In one of her
speeches to the women of Seneca Falls, she

place. It was hard to see . On a lighter side, driving back to Ozark the next morning
with Sheriff Lamb, Ozark Police Chief Speaks heard a loud POP! A few minutes
later, he smelled something strange. You smell that Buff? No, what? Something
smells funny. Like maybe it s burning? Stop the car and let s look in the trunk! The
two opened the patrol car s trunk and discovered that a gas grenade had exploded.
Coughing, Buff picked up the grenade and threw it alongside the road. The two
coughed all the way back to Ozark. The Aftermath The following night, Buff did
not return to Rockaway and stayed in Ozark. Lawman Christopher Dugan (name

there. Sheriff Lyman told everyone that he d take care of it. According to Dugan,
his methods of law enforcement were a little too severe. But if that meant he didn t

many lawmen as there were visitors in Rockaway. Nine businesses had been
destroyed and a dance hall roof, cars and a looted liquor store. A few people had
been hit with bird shot from a shotgun, but everyone survived. The city closed 3

The Dystopian Novel Of Literature
Out of the many genres of writing that authors can use, one stands above the rest in
terms of sending a message. This genre can warn the people of a dark future to
come, and make the general population aware of large problems that need to be
fixed. This genre of course is the Dystopian one. Every single dystopian piece of
literature is not just a book with a lesson in it, but a warning. Almost all dystopian
books pick at flaws that the author has seen in their society, and the book just is an
alternate universe in some sorts where those flaws were never fixed. And of
course with these dystopian books their needs to be a concrete style to go with
them. Most of these books have usually one of two different styles. Either dark and
gloomy to the point out how flawed the society is and the horrible state that people
have to live in, or have an overly positive and perfect described society where
people are brainwashed into thinking everything is just fine, but it is quite in fact
the opposite. And the most part important of all dystopian literature is their social
commentary (however other genres can also have strong social commentary). This
social commentary is the central core of any dystopian book, because as said before
authors of these books want to point out problems in their society to give the people
an ability to recognize these problems and fix them. When a Dystopian element is
mixed with this social commentary and given a solid writing style, it can really point

Joseph Mccarthy In The Red Scare
While both of the figures were in power, it was vital that they had a way to stop
any opposition that challenged them. When Joseph Mccarthy controlled the people
of the United States, it was essential that he had a plan for ways to cut down any
opposition. If someone opposed him, he could then accuse them of supporting
communism. Therefore, many people were afraid to accuse McCarthy of lying.
There were also other examples of punishment for communism throughout the Red
Scare. The Rosenbergs were a couple in New York with two kids. They may have
appeared innocent, but they were actually unmistakably supporters of communism
(Reeves Rosenberg ). Ethel Greenglass was born in New York City, 1915 ( Ethel ).

While McCarthy was famous, many people trusted and believed him. There were
also those who opposed him. While most people who challenged him were
targeted, there was one who succeeded. This man was Edward R. Murrow. He was
a famous American TV and radio broadcaster. He gained his popularity during his
broadcasts from the Battle of Britain. He was also a well trusted figure in America.
From 1951 1957 he had a TV show called See It Now (Sanders). It was widely
viewed and credible. The show was a groundbreaking one because for the first time
videographers would film it on the scene of the event (Sanders). In its most famous
episode, Murrow attacked McCarthy. He criticized the senator s inconsistency and
false accusations (Carey). He pointed out mistakes in many of McCarthy s speeches.
Cold War Museum writer Rachel Carey wrote, Murrow helped ease some fears of
spies in the U.S. living among the public and made sure innocent citizens received
justice (Carey). Citizens of the United States also stopped trusting McCarthy. He was
exposed as a corrupt and fake figure in politics. Another event that exposed him was
the Army McCarthy hearings in April through June of 1954. This was a series of
nationally televised hearings following McCarthy s accusing the army of being
involved in subversive activities. This event further revealed his lying. Finally, in
1954, the United States Senate adopts a resolution reprimanding McCarthy for his
hunt against people who had not done anything wrong (Carey). McCarthy died on

Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum
I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event
essay, on Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a
cultural event since it provides you with the opportunity to learn about the
different styles of artworks of different time periods. This museum contained many
works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or
aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and
Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the
leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis
Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The
Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the
Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is
influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her
contrapposto stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is
preparing to renew herself in the water to carry out her duties as a goddess.... Show

Tiffany used a technique known as plating, which is placing pieces of glass on top
of one another to create the effects of light and shade (The Charles Hosmer). The
name Aurora in Latin translates to morning (Took) so I assumed that the window is
layered with glass to allow a certain amount of light to appear through thus allowing
the concept of early morning to be displayed in the artwork. Roman mythology also
states that her energy represents new hope and renewal that each day brings (Dawn

Powerful Women V. Submissive Women by Sean Conolly
Ancient societies and their cultures traditionally provided women with no access to
power. It was nearly universal for women to be treated as subservient to men while
being expected to behave mildly and submissively. The New Testament makes no
exception. The Apostle Paul explains that through Christ, women are absolved of
constraints that the social hierarchy imposes on them, but he later goes on to explain
that even in Christ a religious hierarchy still exists. By acknowledging that women
are inferior to men in both the social and religious circles, Paul presents women as
subordinates. This contrasts with Njal s Saga. Through the saga s characters

This suggestion is eventually confirmed when she successfully convinces the King
to accept Hrut as a bodyguard (Njal s Saga, 8). Even though the King is the superior,
Gunnhild still possesses the ability to influence him. Her influence demonstrates her
ability to assume and exercise a degree of power.
It is through her power that Gunnhild goes on to instigate a chain of events. After
having Hrut as a lover for several seasons, Gunnhild reasserts her power when Hrut
asks to return to Iceland. Though she lets him return, she sends a curse along with
him. She says, If I have as much power over you as I think I have, then I cast this
spell: you will not have sexual pleasure with the woman you plan to marry in Iceland,
though you ll be able to have your will with other women. Neither of us comes out
of this well, because you did not tell me the truth (Njal s Saga, 13). The curse she
places on Hrut actually comes true (Njal s Saga, 16). Hrut cannot please his wife
and Gunnhild s desire to hold a degree of dominance over Hrut is fulfilled. Because
Hrut wants to please his wife but cannot, his desires are unfulfilled. This suggests that
Gunnhild s demands and desires are superior to those of men. It is the demands and
desires of a woman that instigate events. The author immediately presents Gunnhild

This speech has meaning, excites emotions and reaches out to all, which makes it a
great speech. Although Reagan chooses to ignore his administrations responsibility in
The Challenger disaster, he concentrates instead on reassurance of the nation which
makes this speech uplifting to the American people.
Invention
To do a rhetorical analysis of this speech we would follow the Neo Aristotelian
approach. The Neo Aristotelian approach consists of five canons which are
invention, organization, style, memory and delivery. First I will start off with
Invention. According to Foss the critic s concern in applying the canon of
invention is with the speaker s major ideas, line of argument, or content (29).
Invention is divided into two categories: external proofs and internal proofs.
External proofs include sources used by the author but does not create, including
testimony of eyewitnesses (Foss 29). I will focus on the internal proofs of this
speech, which are logos or logical argument; ethos, the appeal of the speaker s
character and pathos, emotional appeal. In the speech of The Challenger Disaster
Reagan does not necessarily present an argument, but rather a speech to console and
find meaning. He starts the speech by recognizing the terrible accident that happened
nineteen years ago and relates it to The Challenger disaster. The events are factual
and therefore are logical to be included in the opening of this speech. To begin the
The Quantity Theory Of Money
2.3 Quantity Theory of Money in the Early Twentieth Century
The classical (e.g. Adam Smith, David Hume, David Ricardo, and John Stuart Mill)
and the neoclassical schools (e.g. Alfred Marshall, A. C. Pigou, Irving Fisher ) state
that inflation is a monetary phenomena (Snowdon and Vane, 2005). According to
Classicists, volume of money determines the price level in the economy that operates
with full employment and relative prices are determined by demand for and supply
of real goods. These economists developed the monetary theory which can be taken
as the analytical approach to explain the economic role of money. In course of
explaining the economic role of money Irving Fisher, the classical economist
formulated the equation of exchange associated with the quantity theory of money.
The equation of exchange can be represented as follows: = (2.1) where M is the
amount of currency in the economy during a given year, V is the velocity of
circulation of money, M is the volume of demand deposit in the economy during
the year, V is the velocity of circulation of demand deposits, and is the sum of (i)
the average price, P, of a commodity purchased in the economy during the given year
multiplied by the quantity, Q ,of it purchased, (ii) the average price, , P of another
commodity purchased during the given year multiplied by the quantity of it
purchased, and (iii) for all
The Price Of The Pants
She had only browsed the store for a couple of minutes when she came across the
perfect skirt. It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian
cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on.
Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the
skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the
more hesitant she became of the pricey $400 pricetag. Unable to justify the price of
the skirt, she walked away empty handed towards a different store. After scanning
multiple isles at Zara, a skirt very similar to the one she tried on earlier appeared
for a fraction of the price. Sure the skirt had some loose threads and the quality of
the cotton was cheaper, but the look was spot on, and was a much better purchase.
Now while most of us would agree that a price reduction on a pricey item this big
might seem like a savvy and economical choice, but these low price tags come with
a much larger expense to others that people are not aware of. These unaccounted
expenses vary from the pollution of water and air, down to the soil where these
factories are built and established. It doesn t stop there either; the fashionindustry is
also responsible for the destruction of land and even the deaths of individuals who
work in the production segments.
The purpose of this paper is to explore how fast fashion affects markets and
environments, while attempting to increase awareness of
Three Branches Of Government
The United States government is separated into three different branches:
legislative, executive, and judicial. The basic duty of the legislative branch is the
fact that the members of this branch create the laws. The legislative branch consists
of two houses of Congress through a system called bicameralism. This system is
comprised of two chambers called the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Both of the houses contribute to creating and deciding what will become laws. The
upper house of Congress is called the Senate. Each state is represented by two
senators. There are three formal qualifications that are stated in Article I, Section 3
of the Constitution to be a senator: at least thirty years old, U.S. citizenship for nine
years or more, and being a resident of the state that they represent. The Senate is
made up of one hundred members. One third of the Senate s seats are re elected
every two years. Senators can serve an unlimited amount of six year terms. The

Women s Rights During The Victorian Age
Despite being under the rule of a female monarch, women faced many inequalities
and suffering during the Victorian age. Examples of these inequalities include not
having the right to vote, unequal educational and employment opportunities.
Women were even denied the legal right to divorce in most cases. As the Norton
Anthology states, these debates over women s rights and their roles came to be
known as the woman question by the Victorians. This lead to many conflicting
struggles, such as the desire by all for women to be educated, yet they are denied
the same opportunities afforded to men. While these women faced these difficulties,
there was also the notion that women should be domestic and feminine. There was
an ideal that women should be submissive and pure because they are naturally
different. The industrial revolution introduced women into the labor workforce, but
there was still a conflict between the two identities; one of an employed woman,
and one of a domestic housewife. Despite there being a need for women in the
labor workforce, it was solely men that were considered strong based on their
physical strength. It was believed that a woman s strength lied in her ability to be
somewhat of a moral compass for men. Sarah Stickney Ellis discussed this in her
work The Women of England. Their Social Duties and Domestic Habits. In the ideal
Victorian household, the man would support the family financially, and the woman
would handle all of the domestic duties. Any

The term impersonator is considered somewhat demeaning in the acting world,
suggesting that the actor has simply copied the manner, dialect, and behavior of a
character, instead of creating the character. There are times when such a skill is
useful when a filmmaker needs a portrayal of a recognizable historical figure, for
instance, but doesn t want to distract the audience by casting a recognizable actor in

Even though he can be considered a personality actor, no one would argue that
Nicholson, who has been nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won three, is a
brilliant actor. And actors like Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant remain popular
personalities more than half a century after their heyday. But a lesser talent who
relies too much on personality risks staying power. Will audiences 50 years from
now recognize the strength of personality? Or will it simply seemed mannered and
curious, a distraction instead of a beloved trait?

To define a star, think about a personality actor, only more so. A star is a distinctive
screen persona, who is well known and popular with the moviegoing public, often
to the point that some avid movie fans become deeply curious about the actor s
private life Hollywood has a long love affair with stars, since the days of Charlie
Chaplin and Mary Pickford. Stars are actors who are simply famous on screen and
off, personalities so magnetic that we are interested not just in their movies but in
their personal lives as well. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both talented actors. But
they re also famous stars, so much so that tabloids and gossip sites endlessly
speculate on their relationship, their children, and every other aspect of their lives.
Obviously this has been taken to almost absurd extremes today, where Web sites
breathlessly report the content of text messages between actors and their mistresses

Anti Trust
The Sherman Anti Trust Act of 1890 was passed to prohibit trusts, this was the first
law passed by U.S. Congress to enforce this. This act was named after Senator John
Sherman. Before this act was put into place, many other states had enforced laws
very similar to the Sherman Anti Trust Act. These laws were not perfect though, the
large corporations had the majority of the economic power. Congress was not
pleased with this, thus making the Sherman Anti Trust Act. This act allowed
Congress to regulate interstate commerce, outlawing monopolistic practices. If a
person were to violate this act, he or she could be imprisoned for a year and fined
five thousand dollars. This law was successfully used to help Theodore Roosevelt
during his campaign, trust busting . Also, President Taft used the law to back himself
up against the Standard Oil Trust and American Tobacco Company. The Standard Oil
trust was when a board of nine trustees was set up to make all of the company
decisions , allowing the company to run as a monopoly. The Sherman Anti Trust Act
allowed both presidents to dissolve the trusts that were creating problems. On the
other hand, the Sherman Anti Trust Act had many holes, it did not have exact
wording, therefore allowing companies to still control the majority of the producing
and still get away with it. The Sherman Anti Trust Act had substantial success, but
was put to rest and replaced with the Clayton Anti Trust

Peace Brought from the Modern Economic Structure
In the modern world the economic structure is believed to help lead to peace and
prosperity to all nations. It is stated that though Interdependent economies, when
economies become dependent upon trade from foreign nations, and Globalization, the
act in which nations begin to integrate their ideas and concepts with one another, war
and conflict can be mitigated. War is mitigated through the two phenomena due to the
growing tradebetween nations that demands for nations to agree and play nicely with
one another in order to continue this trade. This is additionally seen through the
effects that a lack of trade causes on the nations. But conflicts do not seem to be
effected in a meaningful way by the two phenomena. This is due to the broad
definition of conflicts that seems to encompass too many things to be completely
affected and the nature of conflict which is always possible with two separate groups.
Thus the modern world s economy with its Interdependence and Globalizationis able
to create peace but is unable to end conflict.
The way through which the world has become Interdependent and Globalized is
through international trade. Trade is the act through which two nations send each other
product for the others products. This allows for countries to gain economically since
they are selling their products for value. Countries then become Interdependent since
the trade networks are the basis of the economy for countries thus they need to trade
to keep the economy afloat.
Raskolnikov Mood
In a passage excerpted from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov fixes his attention on a girl who is staggeringly drunk.
While Raskolnikov is watching her, he notices a large man who is also paying
special attention to the drunk girl; however, the stranger is clearly intent on taking
advantage of the girl. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in
order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he
does not care about what happens to the girl, and scoffs at himself for ever getting
involved. Dostoevsky uses this event to reveal the two characteristics that
Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps
others, and a cynic who cares only about himself. Dostoevsky shows Raskolnikov s
complex and quick changing character through the literary devices of tone, diction,
and point of view. The tone of hopelessness throughout this passage displays
Raskolnikov s rapidly changing self, as one side of him scolds the other for being
optimistic. Raskolnikov begins with being adamantly protective of the girl, saying The

Raskolnikov suddenly changes his mind in regard to the girl s safety. However,
with this choice in writing style, one can read Raskolnikov s thoughts as he goes

begins by being sympathetic for the poor girl by thinking over all of the terrible
things that will happen to her due to his lack of intervention; however shortly after
he switches over to his pessimistic side by voicing one of his beliefs that if it hadn t

Reflection About Culture
In some cases there are people that don t really matter with culture to see how a
person reacts to but the to get to know for what she/he is. So there might be people
that think that just because they are from that culture that they will act what you

depends how they act in their own way. One s culture rarely informs the way one

The three most frequent and major responsibilities for a successful Resident Advisor
are availability, communication, and awareness. Availability, being there when your

They are both vital in creating a feeling of community and comfort within the
residence halls. Connecting with residents is difficult because an RA has to find a
happy medium somewhere between an authority figure and a friend. Availability
and communication are important parts to this distinction because the more time
residents can spend around and with you, the more they get to know you as a
person and the more they understand your duties as an RA. For me personally, I
think these responsibilities will fall mostly within my normal day to day life.
Within the dorms I like to keep my door propped open, which I think would make
me much more approachable to residents walking by. I also like to make sure I
acknowledge everyone I see around campus, and this would be especially true with
the residents in my hall. It always brightens my day a bit whenever someone takes
the time out of their day to just say hello, and I think that s true for a lot of

One of the types of tubulin is acetylated tubulin, and are located on stable
microtubules. The stability of an acetylated protein allows the protein to become a

tubulin than in the zebrafish eye.
Methods
Protein Extraction Tubes containing zebrafish brain or eye tissue and 500Ојl of

Formalist Approach To Literature Analysis
A formalist approach to literature seeks out meaning from a work by giving attention
to the form or structure of a work and literary devices operating in it. It examines the
exclusively literary aspects of the work, focusing on the internal workings of the text
rather than its external influences. The first branch of Formalism. It began in Russia
between 1910 and 1930. It seeks to examine a text on its own terms, independent of
the text s societal or authorial context and accomplishes this examination by
evaluating the formal aspects of a text. Of particular interest to the formalist critic are

The novel s critical approach is reinforced by its historiographic metafictional
techniques. Going through the story, the narrator intervenes from time to time to
assert his ideas, make a comment or elaborate on a concept or a situation. The
twentieth century impresario acts like an eye witness who in order to reconstruct
the past as it actually was, locates himself in the Victorian Age and accompanies the
characters in their daily lives. It is a historical novel because it is the story of a kind
discussions of Victorian science, politics, economics, and social custom. It describes
both urban and pastoral England. For example, the upper class people were, during
the Victorian era, under moral pressure to make love and that time they were not
openly free to make their love. On the contrary the lower working class people like
Sam and Mary were comparatively freer than upper class in their romantic pursuit.
And from this example also we can catch a glimpse of historical reality as reflected
in The French Lieutenant s Woman. Another from this we come to know a
historically significant social reality. The upper titled classes were living a lazy life.
They were away from the business and trade. But they used to marry a middle class
girl if she has lots of money. Even the middle class family was crazy for the title of
the upper class. The reality of the constant expansion in Victorian classes is one brand

Confederation were created, it had a weak central government and gave states the
overall power. This was running the United States into the ground, which is not what
was planned. They decided a change was necessary to save their country. Each
representative from the thirteen colonies came together to write The Constitution.
The supporters of ratifying the constitution were called Federalists and those against

on why they were not on board to ratify the constitution, but the Federalists would

Review Of Twelve Steps To A Compassionate Life By

Compassion means to endure with other person, to put ourselves in somebody s
else shoes. It is a feeling of empathy, which in other words is to feel someone s pain
as though if it were our own. The book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by
Karen Armstrong, discusses a set of different steps people should follow in order to
be compassionate. Armstrong emphasizes in the importance of compassion in the
world. The world is surrounded with problems that we do not know how to solve
and by being compassionate to one another we can create a compassionate and
peaceful world. Every person in this earth has the possibility to be compassionate to
others and this includes treating each other a they wish to be treated, which in most

As stated before, some of the steps to take into consideration are steps one and
three, which are to learn more about compassion and to have compassion for
ourselves. Nevertheless, step seven, how little we know is another of the crucial
steps to create a change in our value system. This step consists of understanding
that we are not always right. There are a lot of problems that need to be solved in
our lives therefore we must examine our ideas by understanding how little we know.
It is a good and important beginning because people are able to listen to one another.
Thinking e know it all only blocks our knowledge and immediately pushes us
backwards. Thinking we know more than other people only creates a feeling of
superiority. Giving people the opportunity to speak their thought while listening to
them, leads to respect for others and respect for ourselves, which is a wonderful
opportunity. Armstrong refers to this step as a step that helps people to become
wiser. For instance, Armstrong said that a person might think they know something
when they don t, and someone that does not know it or even think they know it
have a higher possibility of becoming wiser (p. 99). They are more likely to become
wiser because they are open minded where as the other person is blocking all the
other ideas because he thinks he is superior to
Energy Sector

Energy sector is one of the most important sectors for the current economy.
Nowadays, the access to energy is a key point for the development and welfare of a

Within the energy sectors, the electricity sector is considered a strategic one,
considering the increase of electricity demand occurred during the last 15 years all

To liberalize a series of activities of the energy sector and to open this sector to the

This Directive has been transposed to the regulation in Spain of the Law of the

To open the market and the introduction of the competition has as a main objective,
the continuity of the supplying and its quality as well as the smaller possible cost.
The National Commission of Energy was created as a controller entity of the energy

The new regulating frame suppresses the consideration of the public service for the

Companion animals and their parasites are discussed. Dog parasites are given
majority of the focus with some information on what parasites are exactly as well as
how they can be transmitted. One parasite is given more of an insight, the
roundworm, it is a parasite common to dogs but it can also be found in cats, humans
and many other species.
2.Introduction
Companion animals are the hosts for many different parasites. Animal parasitism
is a way of life in which a parasite species is living in or on a host species to support
its livelihood (Olsen, Animal Parasites Their Life Cycles and Ecology, 1974). As the
host species will cater for the parasites needs in terms of food and ... Show more

Several sub topics can be identified when discussing companion animals and their
companion parasites. One of which focuses particularly on dogs, what parasites they
are susceptible to, how they fall victim to these parasites, how to identify and treat
them, which is the most common parasite to dogs and can dogs pass their parasites
to other animals or possibly even humans.
The most common parasite found in dogs is the roundworm (Ascaris Lumbricoides).
Roundworm will typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or
after they are born when drinking their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s
milk the puppy is actually consuming larvae of the parasite in the form of very small
eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively. This means that they will need
to be consumed by the next host if transmitted to another dog. The dog could contract
the parasite through eating another small mammal that has an infestation such as a
mouse or bird. Figure 1 Image showing the lifecycle of the roundworm in a dog host,
notice how the parasite is adapted to be transmitted externally from one host to the
next, this must mean that the parasite is also adapted to survive in unfavourable
conditions while waiting to obtain another host.

People started to steal and looting. A huge fire had started too, from a gas line that
blew up. They all started to head back to the tang town. A lot of rich people were
now poor. The soldiers were killing and stealing from people. People were fighting
back too, it was insane. They got back to the Company building, it was still up.
The house was empty they had all their stuff packed in the wagon. They took their
stuff to the park where it would be safe. They all left the house for their safety. At
the park it was full of people. The soldiers were providing some food for them.
They fire was still up and people were scared. They had the fire contained so the
tang people were allowed to go back to their houses. They left the tang town again ,
so they had to say their goodbyes again. They moved over to oakland, in to a barn

Themes in Rain of Gold, by Victor Villasenor Essay
Rain of Gold, is a true story about the history of Mexican people, their culture,
traditions and customs that were passed down from the Euro Indian heritage of
Mexico. Rain of Gold was written by Juan Villasenor in search for his ancestral
roots. The people of this story are real and not fiction. The places that are discussed
are true. And the incidents did actually happen to his family. There are several
underlying themes that need addressing. Such as: the importance of family, the
importance of religion and spiritualism, womanas center of home and family, respect

Dona Margarita married Juan Villasenor and they had Jose, Alejo, Luisa, Emilia,
Lucha, Domingo, and Juan Salvador. Juan Salvador and Lupe were destined to find
each other. Later Juan and Lupe would marry and have a family of their own.
Both families emphasis the importance of family. In this sense family is defined as
your immediate family consisting of your parents, brother (s) and/or sister (s).
No man, no matter how wonderful, is to be put before a women s first loyalty,
which is her family.... So understand you re no child, and you first loyalty is to your
brother and sister and me la familia , Dona Guadalupe saying this to Lupe (p. 42).
Lupe s first love was the Colonel who was fighting in the Revolution. Everyone in
the box canyon believed that the Colonel would steal their gold mine and give it to
the Americans. Lupe loved this man with all her heart and couldn t believe that
anyone thought he would do such a thing to hurt the people of Mexico. And Dona
Guadalupe had to tell her that her first loyalty should be to her family and it didn t
revolve around the man you love. The goal of both families was to one day see their
children be married and have children of their own.
The importance of religion and spiritualism is what held these families together
through all they had to endure.
Dona Margarita once told Juan Salvador, Do you really think God stopped talking to
us, His people, with the Jews and the Bible. Oh, no mi

Chase Andrew Miner Research Paper
It s a boy!! That s what the doctor said when I was born. I was born in Decatur
County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. The day was the third of January in the year of
2000. At the time I was born it was a special moment and not just for my family,
but the county. The reason for that was because I was the millennial baby for
Decatur County. There were many people who had known the name Chase
Andrew Miner. I was given the name Chase Andrew Miner. My mom had liked the
name Chase and Chance, but she finally decided on Chase. While that decision
wasn t too hard for her to make, (at least she said it wasn t) my last name, Miner,
was an even easier decision. My mom was married to my dad and she took his last
name, so the obvious last name would be Miner. My mom told me she had a really
difficult time figuring out a middle name for me. She couldn t find a name that fit
in well. One day my aunt, Lori, called my mom and asked about the name Andrew.
My mom had thought about it and she decided that that name fit. So from that day I
was Chase Andrew Miner. The joke my mom says now is if she knew she d have to
chase me so much, she would have named me Slow. But word got around of what...

something like this happens every 1,000 years. That s a long time! The people and

have gotten. Some of the items included a free haircut, compliments of the Cutting
Edge in Leon, two saving bonds, little outfit to wear, a twenty five dollar gift card
to Cayses and Conico (my mom probably enjoyed that), free diapers and wipes, and
some other things. Things had been seeming to go well for the first several months
that I was alive, but things took a change for the

simple bank statements. These are just some of the essentials that I believe we all as

If we really want to understand our finance and how it works, it is necessary for us
to understand how the use of financial assets leads to the better use of real assets. Do
we as a people really understand how to levitate our finance? A Prominent tribulation
involving finance and the Black culture is establishing the know how of operating
and dealing with financial situations. Understanding how the financial division works
and how it is related to the real sector is why anyone would study finance.
Many important personal decisions are financial. Paying for a home or an
automobile are two very large examples, but even day to day decisions such as
planning a budget, opening a checking account, or making investments call for a
knowledge of finance. This is a issue that I believe should be discussed in any natural
home, let alone the home of minorities.
Most of the time racially we take finance frivolously and this has become a vast
distress on growing and raising children in our society. Learning finance and relating
to the history of it should be something that we try to incorporate in our teaching as
Black parents. There should be a strong emphasis set on the ability to receive credit
cards from national companies to our Black children, instead of nonchalantly letting
them keep the cards in their possession to set themselves up for failure.
Debt is also a financial situation that our

Summary Of Anthem By Ayn Rand
In the novella, Anthem, author Ayn Rand depicts a futuristic journey of rediscovery
by the protagonist, Equality 7 2521, and his struggles against the totalitarian
government rule of his society. Throughout the novella, the government shows full
manipulation on the life of the people, revealing their moral views and standards. In
fact, everyone within the society is compelled to forget significant aspects of
humanity. However, when Equality 7 2521 escapes from the oppressive government,
he undergoes a series of events that creates contradictions regarding various principles
and views he has been taught to follow since childhood.

Rather, the councils focus was on the lack of collectivism, also on the fact that a
sweeper rediscovered it, instead of a scholar. Therefore, the Council s responses show
that technology and change aren t priorities for the totalitarian government.
Equality 7 2521 s experiences throughout the novel enable him to perceive the
government s atrocities. Equality 7 2521 unconsciously demonstrates his
repudiation of collectivism through his actions. For instance, he chooses to keep
his discovery of the tunnel undisclosed, as he says, This place is ours. This place
belongs to us, Equality 7 2521, and to no other men on earth (Rand 34). Moreover,
he solely works on his innovations, contradicting the collectivist view by the
government. However, it isn t until escaping the society that he completely rejects
the government s view on collectivism. Equality 7 2521 reads books written during
the infamous era known as the unmentionable times. Consequently, he states, I owe
nothing to my brothers, nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me,
nor do I live for any others as well as, This word (we) must never be placed first
within man s soul (Rand 96). These quotes demonstrate
Credit Derivatives in the Recent Global Financial Crisis
Credit Derivatives in the recent Global Financial Crisis 1.0 Introduction: In the
recent times credit derivatives have become a very popular financial security for
investors. If we take a look at the chart given below we can see how the popularity
of credit derivatives increased in the past decade. The maximum volume of
derivatives was traded during the years 2005 to 2007 of which 2006 was the
highest at $2000bn. Then when the financial crisis occurred at the end of 2007 the
trading decreased rapidly the following two years to as low as $100bn in 2009.
There has been claims from financial critics that these credit derivative are the main
factor that has lead to the almost collapse of the world financial markets and if

3.0 Why control measures are necessary? From the simple description of what
happened during the financial crisis as mentioned above, it is clear that the use or
rather the overuse of credit derivatives was the major cause of the collapse of the
financial market. The creatively designed derivatives helped to hedge the risks off
parties involved and eventually the party held accountable for the risk would get lost
in all the complexity of each tranche. In May 2010, the Financial Times quoted
Warren Buffett with the following: Derivatives are financial weapons of mass
destruction, carrying dangers that, while now latent, are potentially lethal to the
financial system (Lemer, 2010). This quote nicely reflects the fear of some market
participants and observers that credit derivatives may threaten the stability of the
financial system. The transactions of credit derivatives are not required to be
disclosed by the market participants and this opaqueness in the system can easily lead
to yet another collapse in the financial markets. Furthermore, there is no common
method of documentation and thus control measures are only self regulatory (Ayadi
Behr, 2009). Sometimes government heavily subsidizes the derivative markets
making it easier for anyone to get credit derivatives cheaply. Almost one third of
OTC market trades require no margin or collateral requirements at all. Financial
innovation has a bad reputation at the moment, because exotic derivatives were one of

How Unresolved Grief Can Negatively Influence People Spiritually, Physically, and
Psychologically
The effects of grief are abundant and in many categories. They mostly influence
people in three ways physically, psychologically, and spiritually. It affects them
greatly and it is hard to hide it. Some people try to deal with it on their own, some
talk to a psychologist, and some simply turn to their loved ones. They all deal with
it in different ways, but it is agreed that it shows. They may show a variety of
different reactions like denial, anger, depression, or even acceptance. Getting over
loss takes time. For some, it may take years. For some, maybe just a couple months.

Some people don t take showers, put on deodorant, or benefit their hygiene because
they feel like they re not worth as much, or the world doesn t care about them.
They lower their self esteem because they feel like if something that bad could
happen to them, they re just a normal person and they re not worth anything. Some
people become anti social and keep to themselves, only going out when it s
necessary. They try to deal with it themselves and often that is not a successful
attempt. Some don t eat as much, or they eat too much. They try to cope by eating
lots of food, and normally, they don t choose healthy foods. Sometimes they get
dizzy or nauseous. If they have a weak stomach, they vomit sometimes. People who
have had severe loss are scientifically proven to have a weaker immune system.
White blood cells are less capable of fighting disease in grieving people, especially in
bereaved spouses. If their husband or wife has died, many people die within a year or
two of their spouse dying. Grief will find its way into their life, for example, while
eating or sleeping. Lots of people claim to be sleep deprived when they are
experiencing grief. Sleep deprivation is one of the most common symptoms of grief.
Some people have high blood pressure when they go through grief; their hearts beat
too fast, which makes them prone to heart attacks. Some people get muscle pains and
digestive problems. Grief effects the body physically and mentally, and sometimes
they coincide. Their physical state can affect their mental

Is Wal Mart a socially responsible corporation? This essay will seek to answer that

It seems that Wal Mart is an economy of its own with profound implications for its
customers, workers and the communities where it operates. Wal Mart contributes
$US750 million to taxes in California alone and spends about $US4.2 billion a year
nationally on employee benefits. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wal Mart)
Nelson Lichtenstein (2005), a strong unionist, believes that the size of Wal Mart
means they cannot truly stay as a private organisation. By its very existence and
competitive success, it rezones cities, determines the real minimum wage, channels
capital throughout the world and conducts a kind of international diplomacy with a
range of nations.
He likens Wal Mart to General Motors claiming that was the last time a U.S.
corporation had such power, which was 50 years ago. General Motors was the
largest and most profitable U.S. corporation. It was a major player in many areas
from aircraft production to household appliances and the GM Acceptance
Corporation was by far the largest retail credit institution in the United States. Like
Wal Mart today, GM had no competition that could threaten its dominance. GM s
sales at the time amounted to about 2% of U.S. GDP which is just about where Wal
Mart stands today. (Lichtenstein, 2005)
However unlike Wal Mart, General Motors was proud to provide high wages. It
provided wages so that the employee could be the breadwinner and in doing so

  • 2. Pre-Calculus Research Paper Prior to taking Pre Calculus I had taken College Algebra which has helped me tremendously with the objectives of Pre Calculus. I learned basic algebra skills that helped me advance in solving the objectives needed for the advancement of the course. I am currently working for a construction framing business in which some math skills are required. I plan on obtaining a major in structural engineering and a minor in mechanical. The CollegeAlgebra class thought me how to add, subtract, divide, and multiply fractions which I had always had difficulty with. I have yet to master the skill, but because of Pre CalculusI am receiving a lot of practice, which has helped me comprehend how to solve the math. College Algebra helped me understand that math is basically a puzzle that needs to be solved with steps, because of this understanding the math has become fun to solve. After solving a problem in class that my other classmates have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before deciding that I wanted to become an engineer, the thought of needing math in the future was never important to me. Since deciding my future I obtained a job in construction framing to have a hands on feeling of how buildings should be built. That is when I was truly enlighten in the need to understand math. To build a building two of the hardest things to accomplish is the roof of the building which has to have a slope, and an arc if the building were to have any luxury. The roof requires a downward slope to get rid of water and debris, but to find the slope a basic knowledge if trigonometry must be obtained first, which is where Pre Calculus helped me understand the math to create the roof of a building. The arcs within the building are used to dress up the building and make it look luxurious. The arcs would have never been possible without learning the angle and arc length which were learned how to be obtained when taking Pre
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been here a number of times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination, which isn t too hard to find. The airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a hot dogstand selling overpriced hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for each of my brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough. Maybe he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each hotdog. I sit at one of the seats that linethe aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside me my brothers sit and eat their own hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty much like most of the airport. The time comes to board the plane, the small space is filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you can see is the dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do my best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San Francisco. I step off the plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport much larger than the one in Kahului. The much more calm feeling of the island is replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite honestly it s a tad strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes
  • 4. A Member Of The Zygophyllaceae A member of the Zygophyllaceae (caltrop) family, the creosote bush, Larrea tridentata, belongs to a flowering plant family of more than 250 members worldwide, many of which are native to desert regions. Creosote bush is abundant in three of the four North American deserts, i.e. the Mojave, the Sonoran, and the Chihuahuan Deserts. In the United States, L. tridentata occurs in the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Most Agassiz s desert tortoises, Gopherus agassizii, regardless of the specific locality they inhabit, live in a type of desert biome known as creosote bush scrub. Dominated by the creosote bush, this ecosystem also features vegetation such as Ambrosia dumosa (white bur sage), Ambrosia salsola ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While conducting research on desert tortoise burrows, a team of scientists documented 31 species as commensals (Walde, Walde, Delaney, Pater, 2009). However, it is likely that many more species share the shelter of the tortoise s burrow. With the camphor like fragrance of the resinous coating on its leaves that volatilizes when rainfall occurs, the creosote bush imparts a fresh, pleasant smell of rain to the parched desert ecosystems it inhabits (Flores, 2013). On the contrary, the pesticide /wood preservative creosote oil is a petroleum based product that has nothing to do with the desert shrub creosote bush. Creosote oil is a toxic substance distilled from coal tar and used to preserve railroad crossties, marine and foundation timbers, and the like. Identification A slow growing evergreen shrub with a wide distribution in the North American deserts, L. tridentata is first and foremost a shelter source, providing shade and cover for numerous desert organisms, both flora and fauna. An extremely long lived shrub, each individual plant may live as long as 100 to 200 years. The wild creosote bush typically reaches a height of 3 to 8 feet (1 to 2.4 meters) with an equal spread. The
  • 5. How To Obtain A Search Warrant The fourth amendment deals with search and seizure. Although they go hand and hand, they are two different things. In order to do a search you need to obtain a search warrant. A search warrant is a permission, signed by a judge that allows law enforcement to enter private property to look for certain items. It is addressed to the owner of the property, notifying them that a judge decided that the certain item with be found there. In order to obtain a search warrant, law enforcement must show that there is probable cause to believe a search is needed. Judges, considering the circumstances, will decided whether to sign off on it or not. It is illegal for law enforcement to search anything without a warrant. With search warrants, comes arrest warrants. An arrest warrant is an official document, signed by a judge, which authorizes law enforcement to arrest whoever is on the warrant. To obtain an arrest warrant, law enforcement submits a written affidavit to a judge, showing facts that a crime was committed and the person named in the warrant committed it.... In order to obtain one, law enforcement must show a judge that there is probable cause to believe that the property will show the person have committed an offence. A warrant can also be issued by an affidavit. A judge, themselves, can issue a search warrant. An arrest warrant is somewhat the same. It can be issued by a judge or the governor. The offender might have fled from justice, or is being convicted of a crime to have an arrest warrant against them. They could have also escaped or broken the terms of bail, probation, or parole. Someone can also come before a judge and show that an arrest needs to be made. This bring us to a

Stop And Frisk Final Outline Maria Jorge December 01/2014 Stop and Frisk final outline Prof: Maule Brian Introduction: There has always been tension raised between maintaining a safe society and observing by the constitutional rights of its citizens. The New York City aggressive program of Stop and Frisk have been widely criticized and considered unconstitutional. However, Stop and Frisk, per se is not unconstitutional unless people are being stopped illegally. It s a crime prevention tool that allows police officers to stop a person based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and to conduct a frisk based on reasonable suspicion that the person is armed. Some argue this policy was created to target minorities. Most of the people who have been stopped and frisked under this program have been African American or Hispanic. This concerns citizens and makes them oppose the policy because they believe its racial profiling and guided by color. Stop and frisk is now one of the biggest controversies in United States. It has become something that is affecting society in both a positive and negative way. Efficiency: Is or isn t stop and frisk an efficient strategy? What is the problem with effectiveness argument? Should the New York City Police department continue using Stop and Frisk or should they end the program? Do Stop and Frisk help to save lives? Mayor Bloomberg. • 7. Immanuel Kant And Edward Bullough s Analysis Of The Beautiful Immanuel Kant and Edward Bullough both express their opinions between the agreeable and the beautiful in their own personal writings, The Analytic of the Beautiful and Psychical Distance , respectively. Each writer states their own criterion of the beautiful, and both distinguish why the difference between the beautiful and the agreeable is important. Edward Bullough s theory is that to distinguish between the beautiful and the agreeable there must be a distance from practical reasoning: Distance is produced in the first instance by putting the phenomenon, so to speak, out of gear with our practical, actual self; by allowing it to stand outside the context of our personal needs and ends. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychical distance refers to the relationships that one has with an object or work of art. Bullough believes that distance is the key feature of aesthetic consciousness separating both the beautiful and the agreeable. He uses distance as the criterion distinguishing between the two, explaining that to truly and honestly appreciate the art, you must dissociate from a practical mindset. You must create a distance from your own mind and perspective, and also create a distance from the object you are observing. Moreover, Bullough states that the person critiquing the artwork must look at the artwork for what the artist intended. Therefore, you must be distance from particular emotions that trigger personal or moral concerts. As a consequence, this means that your distanced view of things cannot be your normal outlook; however, this does not mean that you must change your opinion, it only means that you must open yourself up to new ideas and perspectives to gain a new appreciation of

The members of the Duke Lacrosse team did not have much support from the faculty as the accusations were the headliners for many major media outlets. The impact of these allegations by the Duke Lacrosse team was tremendous. The President of the University Richard Brodhead canceled the entire season and called the situation sickening and repulsive (Jennings, 2009, p. 568). Once again the support from the highest level at Duke University was not there for the three members of the lacrosse team at the center of the allegations. The African American accuser Crystal Mangum had support from the NAACP, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and the Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong. The coach of the team also resigned from his job as the season was canceled. Mr. Nifong from the beginning of the investigation seemed to have his mind set on convicting these white males of the allegations they faced from the accuser. The unethical manner in which Mike Nifong proceeded in the investigation tested the judicial system. The tactics that were used in the case undermined that you are innocent until proven guilty. A Duke was facing a crisis little did the judicial system in North Carolina know that they were about to have their work cut out for them as Mr. Nifong continued his journey to find these three lacrosse players guilty. • 9. Requirements for Agriculture Environmental Questions Minerals Society uses metals that come from mineral deposits to make buildings, pipes, wires, vehicles, and other products (Mathes, 2004). Other minerals are also used to produce products, such as using clay for bricks, sulfur to make fertilizer and refine petroleum, and oil, coal, and natural gas are used for energy. Metallic minerals are hard, contain their own shine or luster, are ductile and malleable (capable of being hammered thin and extended without breakage), and do not break when hit where non metallic minerals are just the opposite (Daga). An example of metallic minerals is tin, which can be used to make cans to preserve food as well as other products. An example of non metallic minerals is marble, used to make counter tops and decorative pieces. Mining Depending on how deep into the earth the minerals are that are to be extracted, explosives are used to blast rock into smaller pieces and heavy machinery brings it out of the earth from the tunnels that are formed by the explosives. The minerals are then processed by a separation method to be refined into products. The processing includes heating the metals after separation to temperatures that reach 1600 degrees to be formed. For metals that are on the surface of the earth, a process of booming is used where water is collected into large reservoirs and discharged in large amounts to remove large amounts of gravel in a thick mud state to show where the minerals are. For minerals

Forty six years later, there are more and more countries, organizations, schools and others institutions join activities which help protect the environment. For instance, cut the electricity for an hour, planets more trees, and build up protect areas. The costumes for the opera, also designed by Ms. Herbert, were brilliant; the colors of the clothes of the Turks matched their colorful surroundings, whilst the European characters were dressed in more monochrome, but elegant garments that clearly distinguishes between the two. She referred to the Constitution s wording when speaking of or defending women s rights by using phrases such as the people, citizens, and persons. She also took a different approach when addressing her audiences. Unlike most female reformers of the time, she used a more masculine style of delivery. The Married Womans Property Act passed in New York at the beginning of the next year, and it was one that Stanton had pushed for and endorsed, and she soon found herself in a position to lead a public movement. While attending a tea party with new friends, and sympathizing women, they spontaneously agreed upon holding a Women s Rights Convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious conditions and rights of women. This convention was rooted in economic and social instability, along with revolutions in industrialization, transportation, and technology. None of the women had ever organized a convention before, and they gave themselves only eight days to prepare for it. Stanton wrote up a speech and a resolution, and on July 19, she proposed her Declaration of Sentiments. • 15. The Dystopian Novel Of Literature Out of the many genres of writing that authors can use, one stands above the rest in terms of sending a message. This genre can warn the people of a dark future to come, and make the general population aware of large problems that need to be fixed. This genre of course is the Dystopian one. Every single dystopian piece of literature is not just a book with a lesson in it, but a warning. Almost all dystopian books pick at flaws that the author has seen in their society, and the book just is an alternate universe in some sorts where those flaws were never fixed. And of course with these dystopian books their needs to be a concrete style to go with them. Most of these books have usually one of two different styles. Either dark and gloomy to the point out how flawed the society is and the horrible state that people have to live in, or have an overly positive and perfect described society where people are brainwashed into thinking everything is just fine, but it is quite in fact the opposite. And the most part important of all dystopian literature is their social commentary (however other genres can also have strong social commentary). This social commentary is the central core of any dystopian book, because as said before authors of these books want to point out problems in their society to give the people an ability to recognize these problems and fix them. When a Dystopian element is mixed with this social commentary and given a solid writing style, it can really point out

  • 18. Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different time periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her contrapposto stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the water to carry out her duties as a goddess.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Submissive Women by Sean Conolly Ancient societies and their cultures traditionally provided women with no access to power. It was nearly universal for women to be treated as subservient to men while being expected to behave mildly and submissively. The New Testament makes no exception. The Apostle Paul explains that through Christ, women are absolved of constraints that the social hierarchy imposes on them, but he later goes on to explain that even in Christ a religious hierarchy still exists. By acknowledging that women are inferior to men in both the social and religious circles, Paul presents women as subordinates. This contrasts with Njal s Saga. Even though the King is the superior, Gunnhild still possesses the ability to influence him. Her influence demonstrates her ability to assume and exercise a degree of power. It is through her power that Gunnhild goes on to instigate a chain of events. After having Hrut as a lover for several seasons, Gunnhild reasserts her power when Hrut asks to return to Iceland. Though she lets him return, she sends a curse along with him. She says, If I have as much power over you as I think I have, then I cast this spell: you will not have sexual pleasure with the woman you plan to marry in Iceland, though you ll be able to have your will with other women. Neither of us comes out of this well, because you did not tell me the truth (Njal s Saga, 13). The curse she places on Hrut actually comes true (Njal s Saga, 16). Hrut cannot please his wife and Gunnhild s desire to hold a degree of dominance over Hrut is fulfilled. Because Hrut wants to please his wife but cannot, his desires are unfulfilled. This suggests that Gunnhild s demands and desires are superior to those of men. It is the demands and desires of a woman that instigate events. Although Reagan chooses to ignore his administrations responsibility in The Challenger disaster, he concentrates instead on reassurance of the nation which makes this speech uplifting to the American people. Invention To do a rhetorical analysis of this speech we would follow the Neo Aristotelian approach. The Neo Aristotelian approach consists of five canons which are invention, organization, style, memory and delivery. First I will start off with Invention. According to Foss the critic s concern in applying the canon of invention is with the speaker s major ideas, line of argument, or content (29). Invention is divided into two categories: external proofs and internal proofs. External proofs include sources used by the author but does not create, including testimony of eyewitnesses (Foss 29). I will focus on the internal proofs of this speech, which are logos or logical argument; ethos, the appeal of the speaker s character and pathos, emotional appeal. In the speech of The Challenger Disaster Reagan does not necessarily present an argument, but rather a speech to console and find meaning. He starts the speech by recognizing the terrible accident that happened nineteen years ago and relates it to The Challenger disaster. The events are factual and therefore are logical to be included in the opening of this speech. To begin the

According to Classicists, volume of money determines the price level in the economy that operates with full employment and relative prices are determined by demand for and supply of real goods. These economists developed the monetary theory which can be taken as the analytical approach to explain the economic role of money. In course of explaining the economic role of money Irving Fisher, the classical economist formulated the equation of exchange associated with the quantity theory of money. The equation of exchange can be represented as follows: = (2.1) where M is the amount of currency in the economy during a given year, V is the velocity of circulation of money, M is the volume of demand deposit in the economy during the year, V is the velocity of circulation of demand deposits, and is the sum of (i) the average price, P, of a commodity purchased in the economy during the given year multiplied by the quantity, Q ,of it purchased, (ii) the average price, , P of another commodity purchased during the given year multiplied by the quantity of it purchased, and (iii) for all

It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on. Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the more hesitant she became of the pricey $400 pricetag. Unable to justify the price of the skirt, she walked away empty handed towards a different store. After scanning multiple isles at Zara, a skirt very similar to the one she tried on earlier appeared for a fraction of the price. Sure the skirt had some loose threads and the quality of the cotton was cheaper, but the look was spot on, and was a much better purchase. Examples of these inequalities include not having the right to vote, unequal educational and employment opportunities. Women were even denied the legal right to divorce in most cases. As the Norton Anthology states, these debates over women s rights and their roles came to be known as the woman question by the Victorians. This lead to many conflicting struggles, such as the desire by all for women to be educated, yet they are denied the same opportunities afforded to men. While these women faced these difficulties, there was also the notion that women should be domestic and feminine. There was an ideal that women should be submissive and pure because they are naturally different. The industrial revolution introduced women into the labor workforce, but there was still a conflict between the two identities; one of an employed woman, and one of a domestic housewife. Despite there being a need for women in the labor workforce, it was solely men that were considered strong based on their physical strength. It was believed that a woman s strength lied in her ability to be somewhat of a moral compass for men. Sarah Stickney Ellis discussed this in her work The Women of England. Their Social Duties and Domestic Habits. In the ideal Victorian household, the man would support the family financially, and the woman would handle all of the domestic duties. Any

This act was named after Senator John Sherman. Before this act was put into place, many other states had enforced laws very similar to the Sherman Anti Trust Act. These laws were not perfect though, the large corporations had the majority of the economic power. Congress was not pleased with this, thus making the Sherman Anti Trust Act. This act allowed Congress to regulate interstate commerce, outlawing monopolistic practices. This law was successfully used to help Theodore Roosevelt during his campaign, trust busting . Also, President Taft used the law to back himself up against the Standard Oil Trust and American Tobacco Company. The Standard Oil trust was when a board of nine trustees was set up to make all of the company decisions , allowing the company to run as a monopoly. • 30. Peace Brought from the Modern Economic Structure In the modern world the economic structure is believed to help lead to peace and prosperity to all nations. It is stated that though Interdependent economies, when economies become dependent upon trade from foreign nations, and Globalization, the act in which nations begin to integrate their ideas and concepts with one another, war and conflict can be mitigated. War is mitigated through the two phenomena due to the growing tradebetween nations that demands for nations to agree and play nicely with one another in order to continue this trade. This is additionally seen through the effects that a lack of trade causes on the nations. But conflicts do not seem to be effected in a meaningful way by the two phenomena. This is due to the broad definition of conflicts that seems to encompass too many things to be completely affected and the nature of conflict which is always possible with two separate groups. Thus the modern world s economy with its Interdependence and Globalizationis able to create peace but is unable to end conflict. The way through which the world has become Interdependent and Globalized is through international trade. Trade is the act through which two nations send each other product for the others products. This allows for countries to gain economically since they are selling their products for value. Countries then become Interdependent since the trade networks are the basis of the economy for countries thus they need to trade to keep the economy afloat.
  • 31. Raskolnikov Mood In a passage excerpted from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov fixes his attention on a girl who is staggeringly drunk. While Raskolnikov is watching her, he notices a large man who is also paying special attention to the drunk girl; however, the stranger is clearly intent on taking advantage of the girl. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he does not care about what happens to the girl, and scoffs at himself for ever getting involved. Dostoevsky uses this event to reveal the two characteristics that Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps others, and a cynic who cares only about himself. Dostoevsky shows Raskolnikov s complex and quick changing character through the literary devices of tone, diction, and point of view. Roundworm will typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or after they are born when drinking their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s milk the puppy is actually consuming larvae of the parasite in the form of very small eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively. If we take a look at the chart given below we can see how the popularity of credit derivatives increased in the past decade. The maximum volume of derivatives was traded during the years 2005 to 2007 of which 2006 was the highest at $2000bn. Then when the financial crisis occurred at the end of 2007 the trading decreased rapidly the following two years to as low as $100bn in 2009. There has been claims from financial critics that these credit derivative are the main factor that has lead to the almost collapse of the world financial markets and if corrective measures... From the simple description of what happened during the financial crisis as mentioned above, it is clear that the use or rather the overuse of credit derivatives was the major cause of the collapse of the financial market. The creatively designed derivatives helped to hedge the risks off parties involved and eventually the party held accountable for the risk would get lost in all the complexity of each tranche. In May 2010, the Financial Times quoted Warren Buffett with the following: Derivatives are financial weapons of mass destruction, carrying dangers that, while now latent, are potentially lethal to the financial system (Lemer, 2010). This quote nicely reflects the fear of some market participants and observers that credit derivatives may threaten the stability of the financial system. The transactions of credit derivatives are not required to be disclosed by the market participants and this opaqueness in the system can easily lead to yet another collapse in the financial markets. Furthermore, there is no common method of documentation and thus control measures are only self regulatory (Ayadi Behr, 2009). Sometimes government heavily subsidizes the derivative markets making it easier for anyone to get credit derivatives cheaply. Almost one third of OTC market trades require no margin or collateral requirements at all. Financial innovation has a bad reputation at the moment, because exotic derivatives were one of

They mostly influence people in three ways physically, psychologically, and spiritually. It affects them greatly and it is hard to hide it. Some people try to deal with it on their own, some talk to a psychologist, and some simply turn to their loved ones. They all deal with it in different ways, but it is agreed that it shows. They may show a variety of different reactions like denial, anger, depression, or even acceptance. Getting over loss takes time. For some, it may take years. For some, maybe just a couple months. Some people don t take showers, put on deodorant, or benefit their hygiene because they feel like they re not worth as much, or the world doesn t care about them. They lower their self esteem because they feel like if something that bad could happen to them, they re just a normal person and they re not worth anything. Some people become anti social and keep to themselves, only going out when it s necessary. They try to deal with it themselves and often that is not a successful attempt. Some don t eat as much, or they eat too much. They try to cope by eating lots of food, and normally, they don t choose healthy foods. Sometimes they get dizzy or nauseous. If they have a weak stomach, they vomit sometimes. People who have had severe loss are scientifically proven to have a weaker immune system. White blood cells are less capable of fighting disease in grieving people, especially in bereaved spouses. If their husband or wife has died, many people die within a year or two of their spouse dying. Grief will find its way into their life, for example, while eating or sleeping. It seems that Wal Mart is an economy of its own with profound implications for its customers, workers and the communities where it operates. Wal Mart contributes $US750 million to taxes in California alone and spends about $US4.2 billion a year nationally on employee benefits. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wal Mart) Nelson Lichtenstein (2005), a strong unionist, believes that the size of Wal Mart means they cannot truly stay as a private organisation. By its very existence and competitive success, it rezones cities, determines the real minimum wage, channels capital throughout the world and conducts a kind of international diplomacy with a range of nations. He likens Wal Mart to General Motors claiming that was the last time a U.S. corporation had such power, which was 50 years ago. General Motors was the largest and most profitable U.S. corporation. It was a major player in many areas from aircraft production to household appliances and the GM Acceptance Corporation was by far the largest retail credit institution in the United States. Like Wal Mart today, GM had no competition that could threaten its dominance. GM s sales at the time amounted to about 2% of U.S. GDP which is just about where Wal Mart stands today. (Lichtenstein, 2005) However unlike Wal Mart, General Motors was proud to provide high wages. It provided wages so that the employee could be the breadwinner and in doing so pulled the entire
