I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event
essay, on Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a
cultural event since it provides you with the opportunity to learn about the
different styles of artworks of different time periods. This museum contained many
works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or
aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and
Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the
leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis
Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The
Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the
Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is
influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her
contrapposto stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is
preparing to renew herself in the water to carry out her duties as a goddess.... Show

Ronald Reagan delivers his speech The Challenger Disaster; hours after the space

This speech has meaning, excites emotions and reaches out to all, which makes it a
great speech. Although Reagan chooses to ignore his administrations responsibility in
The Challenger disaster, he concentrates instead on reassurance of the nation which

Invention
To do a rhetorical analysis of this speech we would follow the Neo Aristotelian
approach. The Neo Aristotelian approach consists of five canons which are
invention, organization, style, memory and delivery. First I will start off with
Invention. According to Foss the critic s concern in applying the canon of
invention is with the speaker s major ideas, line of argument, or content (29).
Invention is divided into two categories: external proofs and internal proofs.
External proofs include sources used by the author but does not create, including
testimony of eyewitnesses (Foss 29). I will focus on the internal proofs of this
speech, which are logos or logical argument; ethos, the appeal of the speaker s
character and pathos, emotional appeal. In the speech of The Challenger Disaster
Reagan does not necessarily present an argument, but rather a speech to console and
find meaning. He starts the speech by recognizing the terrible accident that happened

The Price Of The Pants
She had only browsed the store for a couple of minutes when she came across the
perfect skirt. It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian
cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on.
Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the
skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the

Women s Rights During The Victorian Age
Despite being under the rule of a female monarch, women faced many inequalities
and suffering during the Victorian age. Examples of these inequalities include not
having the right to vote, unequal educational and employment opportunities.
Women were even denied the legal right to divorce in most cases. As the Norton
Anthology states, these debates over women s rights and their roles came to be
known as the woman question by the Victorians. This lead to many conflicting
struggles, such as the desire by all for women to be educated, yet they are denied

an ideal that women should be submissive and pure because they are naturally

The Sherman Anti Trust Act of 1890 was passed to prohibit trusts, this was the first
law passed by U.S. Congress to enforce this. This act was named after Senator John
Sherman. Before this act was put into place, many other states had enforced laws
very similar to the Sherman Anti Trust Act. These laws were not perfect though, the
large corporations had the majority of the economic power. Congress was not
pleased with this, thus making the Sherman Anti Trust Act. This act allowed
Congress to regulate interstate commerce, outlawing monopolistic practices. If a
person were to violate this act, he or she could be imprisoned for a year and fined
five thousand dollars. This law was successfully used to help Theodore Roosevelt
during his campaign, trust busting . Also, President Taft used the law to back himself
up against the Standard Oil Trust and American Tobacco Company. The Standard Oil
trust was when a board of nine trustees was set up to make all of the company

Raskolnikov Mood
In a passage excerpted from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov fixes his attention on a girl who is staggeringly drunk.
While Raskolnikov is watching her, he notices a large man who is also paying
special attention to the drunk girl; however, the stranger is clearly intent on taking
advantage of the girl. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in
order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he

Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps

complex and quick changing character through the literary devices of tone, diction,
and point of view. The tone of hopelessness throughout this passage displays
Raskolnikov s rapidly changing self, as one side of him scolds the other for being
optimistic. Raskolnikov begins with being adamantly protective of the girl, saying The
