Essay On Role Of Women In Society
Crafting an essay on the role of women in society can be both challenging and enlightening. On
one hand, the topic is vast and multifaceted, encompassing historical perspectives, cultural
nuances, and contemporary dynamics. The complexity arises from the need to navigate through
diverse viewpoints, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
Addressing the historical aspects involves delving into the evolution of women's roles, from
antiquity to the present day. Analyzing cultural influences further complicates the task, as
societal norms and expectations vary widely across different regions and communities. The
contemporary landscape introduces modern challenges and opportunities, requiring an
exploration of gender equality, empowerment, and the ongoing struggle for recognition and
rights.
Moreover, maintaining a balanced perspective is crucial to avoid oversimplification or
overgeneralization. It's essential to acknowledge the progress made in women's rights while also
addressing persisting disparities and injustices. Striking the right tone and maintaining sensitivity
to diverse experiences is paramount.
Research becomes a cornerstone of the essay-writing process. Drawing from reputable sources,
scholarly articles, and real-life narratives is essential for building a robust argument and ensuring
the essay's credibility. The challenge lies in synthesizing this information cohesively, weaving a
narrative that not only informs but also engages the reader.
Furthermore, the language used should be inclusive and respectful, avoiding reinforcing
stereotypes or perpetuating biases. This adds an additional layer of complexity, as precision in
language becomes crucial in conveying nuanced ideas without alienating the audience.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the role of women in society demands a careful balance of
historical context, cultural awareness, and contemporary insights. It involves navigating through
a myriad of perspectives while maintaining sensitivity and inclusivity. While challenging, the
process is also rewarding, as it allows for a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding
this significant societal issue.

A Changing Lifestyle At The Age Of Thirty
A Changing Lifestyle
At the age of thirty, I am still trying to find my place in the world. I have moved in
and out of my parents home several times, and each time I have learned important
lessons about life. Gaining independence is often a long and difficult struggle. At the
age of nineteen, I moved out of my parents house. Becoming independent for the first
time was great. My first apartment was small; it had a one bedroom, and my rent was
affordable. When I moved in to the apartment, I smelled the fresh paint on the
walls, I see that it had two windows and carpet that felt soft on my feet. I had an old
neighbor that lived next door to me to whom I started to become friends. His
named was Joe and we would always set around talk and have strawberry
cheesecake. Ponderosa Steak House was where I was working when I lived on my
own. I worked there four years both baker and cook person. Unfortunately, not
everything went smoothly. Before long, my roommates and I were partying too
much. My friends that I had enjoyed partying, and I often joined them. We would
hang out at my place all night. We drank alcohol, watched movies, sat around
talking, and went out to other friends house. I hung out with my friends every
weekend. I fell in love with the wrong person whom I dated for four years. My ex s
boyfriend was also in to alcohol. We were drinking all the time; however, we would
fight on a regular basis. I had to move back into my parents house in order to get
myself back on my
Essay Marijuana for Medical Use
Marijuana for Medical Use
For many years the United States government has prohibited some drugs, such as
marijuana, from being sold in the marketplace. Yet, even with prohibition, marijuana
use has only decreased minimally. Because of its illegality, only the bad aspects of
marijuana use have been made known. However, there are many positive aspects of
marijuana legalization, including its application concerning medical cures.
As of today, in most of the states, marijuana is classified as an illegal drug.
However, due to its proven medicinal purposes, the drug should be made available
for sick people to use. Marijuana has been used for multiple purposes prior to the
birth of Christ. Marijuana originated in the Middle East. ... Show more content on

Marijuana smoke is a complex mixture that has many chemical components and
biological effects similar to tobacco smoke. However, it also contains some different
ingredients. This suggests the strong possibility that marijuana, like tobacco, could
lead to lung cancer, or create respiratory distress. ?Smoking marijuana also causes
changes in the heart and circulation that are characteristic of stress? states Morgan
(5). Current evidence has shown marijuana also causes some chemical changes in
the brain. After exposure to this drug, there have been reports of effects on brain
electrical activity in human beings and in animals. Marijuana also has been found to
produce an acute brain syndrome. ?This is a more severe mental problem consisting
of confusion and loss of contact with reality? stated Berger (8). The main reason that
the United States Drug Enforcement Agency doesn t want marijuana use to be
legalized is because there is no evidence to date that proves that marijuana is an
effective drug when used for medicinal purposes. Scientists have researched this drug
for twenty years and have yet to produce reliable scientific proof that marijuana has
medical value. New findings show that marijuana is acutely harmful to AIDS and
cancer patients because the active ingredient in marijuana acutely reduces the white
blood cells that fight off infection. The United States Drug Enforcement Agency
agrees with police departments that if marijuana use is legalized, crime could
My Family Values
One definition of family is a group of individuals, each a unique masterpiece,
sharing unconditional love, hugs and support, and is one of life s greatest blessings
to cherish always. Family is not only defined by bloodline or last name, but it s
having a strong commitment and love for each other. It simply means showing up
when the familyneeds help the most. Moreover, it means having unconditional love
when you struggle to like each other. Ultimately, family means being in the moment
with each other during both difficult and successful situations and not giving up on
family. A great analogy about family is a quote that states, family is like branches
on a tree, we all grow in different direction, yet our roots remain as one. These
descriptions of family describe my family of origin, and I look forward to learning
more about my family through the different family systems theories.
My family of origin consists of my mother, stepfather, brother, two sisters,
grandparents and my uncle. Our socioeconomic status is middle class, African
Americans family, and our religious preference is Baptist. The family s parenting
style is authoritarian, which means do as I say, not as I do. The authoritarian
approach is very directive and strict. Religion is a big part of my family values. My
grandmother went to church every Sunday, and it was an expectation that we
attended church as a family, with the acceptation of my grandfather and uncle. My
grandfather and uncle have never stepped a foot in a church. Moreover, I have
never heard them say anything about God or religion. My mother and grandmother
are strong African American women. So, one of the family influenced expectation
is that the women pose strong characteristic and any signs of weakness is
unacceptable. My grandfather was the head of the family of origin, and all of the
decisions about the family were either made by him or required his approval.
Although my mother and grandmother contributed to the family income, their main
roles were to take care of the house and family needs. My uncle moved away as an
emerging young adult. My sibling and I were too young to have roles other than to
respect the older members and follow all rules given by authority figures.
You Know Your Child Is Gifted When By Judy Galbraith
The world is full with people and blogs, trying to convince you things they don t
really know themselves.
Before you freak out and send your child to the closest Child Genius reality TV

gifted child really mean? Furthermore, what kinds of gifted traits are there? In the
booklet You Know Your Child Is Gifted When... written by Judy Galbraith, you can
find these exact things.
In the article, the term gifted is a very precise, yet very broad; it is more than a
number on an IQ test, hence is termed by the U.S Department of Education as children
and youth with outstanding talents and accomplishments, in comparison to others of
their age, experience of the environment.
Why Is Social Class Important In An Inspector Calls
Social class in important in An Inspector Calls. This is because the Birling family
all helped to contribute to Eva s suicide. If all the characters didn t think that class
was important, Eva would be alive. The older characters, Mr and Mrs Birling who
mainly care about class. This is because they are very old fashioned and traditional.
Mr Birling keen to be knighted to show his hard fought rise to the upper class. He
also wants Sheila to marry Gerald, whose father is a successful businessman. Mr
Birling says I m sure she ll make you happy. Happy suggests that he will look after

Saber The Hero s Journey
In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the
question of what it means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of
uncertainty, he sets off on a search to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that
Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the traditional sense. While Saber does
experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to be a typical hero
because of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional
heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero.
According to Joseph Cambell s Hero s Journey, there is a standard set of actions that
transpires in multiple stories, particularly in heroic ones. This sequence of actions

This idea is supported in The Search, by how Elham serves as both a foil to Saber s
character and a symbol of improvement for him. To clarify, up until this point it is
clear that Saber (in his unheroic like fashion) is mainly relying on others to
complete his search. In Cairo, he finally places an advertisement for his father,
though in perspective, it means the success of his search practically depends on his
father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no further
attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. In
contrast, Elham cultivates her own future, acquiring a higher education while
working as a clerk, a noteworthy feat for a woman in her times. Saber, the
supposed hero, however is unwilling to accommodate for a more reliable and
realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work he responds, any work I
do must come through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later when she
actually offers to find him possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s
nothing I know how to do (407). Though the reader may wish Saber to choose Elham,
thus ultimately developing his character and improving his odds, he remains
Marine Patrol Policing
Marine patrol policing has been around for many years patrolling the waterways, it
is one of the oldest patrol strategies (Ortmeier 2006, p233). The men and women
that protect the rivers, lakes, canals and harbors may go by boat unit, water police,
river police, maritime police and the United States Coast Guard. Just as one might
see local and state policepatrolling the streets and highways the waterways need
policing also. They provide access to many ports and inlets that could be used for
illegal activity. Some of this illegal activity can range from weapons and drug
smuggling to human trafficking. Some of the functions and responsibilities of the

accidents, drownings, commercial vessel inspections, protection of vital assets and...

The main goal of this unit is to provide safe use for all boaters of the public waters.
The benefits to a marine patrol can decrease boating intoxicated incidents and
lessen the possibility of drowning s. Improve the response time to remote areas that
cannot be accessed by car or truck. Decrease in criminal activity in areas located
near water and overall increase water safety and public relations. The cons of the
marine patrol normally involve critical tactical training curriculums in addition to the
regular training required of law enforcement personnel. Sometimes weather condition
will not allow patrols to properly police an area or responded when needed increasing
response time to calls for service. Having limited funding and the number of qualified
law enforcement personnel to operate the vessels and equipment puts a strain on the
unit, not to mention their capabilities at night are
Essay on Tommy Douglas
Tommy Douglas
Tommy Douglas is one of the most successful politicians Canadians have ever seen.
He implemented many social policies and programs in Saskatchewan that were later
adopted throughout Canada. Most of his programs continue today and are an integral
part of
Canadian society. His greatest achievement was his implementation of Medicare in
Saskatchewan. Douglas never intended to be a politician but his concern for people
drove him to be one. Thomas Douglas was born in Falkirk, Scotland on October 20,
1904. Tommy moved to Winnipeg in 1911 along with his mother and sister to meet
his father who had migrated one year earlier. (1Thomas H Mcleod and Ian Mcleod,

He found changes came slowly at the federal level of government. He went on to

Federal politics. In 1942, while still sitting as an Member of Parliament Tommy

Blood Transfusion And Transfusion Related Acute Lung
Injury
Introduction:
Blood transfusion aims in appropriate use of blood and blood products in a safe
manner to treat a condition leading to a significant morbidity and mortality which
cannot be treated or managed by other treatment measures. However transfusion
always carries a risk of triggering adverse reactions as well as transmission of blood
borne infections1. Due to this the concept of patient blood management is gaining
increasing attention worldwide and Hospital Transfusion Committees (HTC) has
been created in different hospitals worldwide to monitor this. The major concern
related to mortality by allogenic blood transfusion includes:
Transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI)
ABO and non ABO haemolytic transfusion reactions
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recent study for identifying transfusion errors threatening patient safety indicate
that the greatest potential risk to patients is due to inappropriate ordering of blood
products and error made in labelling5.
Let us elaborate further on few of these examples of adverse reactions which have
been a major cause of concern in working in a direction for safe and effective blood
transfusion.
Transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI): It is a condition which develops
within 1 6 hours of transfusion of plasma containing blood components and is
characterised by acute respiratory distress with severe hypoxemia with bilateral
pulmonary oedema. The biggest challenge in this condition is being an
immunological response the exact cause of the trigger in the recipient is unknown.
The fatality rate related to this adverse reaction is 6 10%6. The reported studies have
indicated the involvement of donor HLA antibodies which react with the recipient
antigens and lead to the complications. However differentiating TRALI from other
conditions is important as for example transfusion associated circulatory overload can
also cause symptoms similar to TRALI also respiratory distress is a common finding
in anaphylactic reactions after blood transfusion.
Investigation of the condition: This is mainly dependent on clinical symptoms and
exclusion of other
Theme Of Characterization In The Man Who Was Almost A
Man
Characterization is an important factor in a story, mostly in literary fiction, because it
controls the plot. There are different types of characterization one being direct
presentation, it tells us straight out who the character is, then there is indirect
presentation, where the author is telling us who the characterare by their actions. For a
story to be categorized as good fiction it needs to have the three criteria to develop a
convincing character; first the characters are consistent in their behavior, second the
characters words and actions have to come from motivations that are understandable
and believable to the reader, and lastly they need to be lifelike. Meaning the author
needs to persuade the reader that the character has a chance of existing in real life.
This usually gets the attention of the reader which makes them forget that they are
even reading a story. The story The ManWho Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright
follows the three criteria in developing a convincing character. The character who
follows this criteria is Dave. His behavior is consistent because he has a consent
behavior of wanting to feel superior, this is what gives him his motivation in buying a
gunto be superior, and the character is plausible because it shows how boys try to
grow up and want to be a man and how they try to find ways with manly things to
make them feel like a man.
Dave passes the first criteria in developing a convincing character because his
behavior is consistent
The Importance Of The African Slave Trade
What was the African slave trade like? Well, the slave trade in Africa was mostly
African peoples taking and enslaving other, sometimes rival, African peoples. The
newly enslaved people often separated from their families would then be taken and
put into shackles, shoved below deck into a stifling and cramped environment; then
left for the duration of the trip, surrounded by odious sights and smells. Slavery
Throughout History: Biographies, Slavery Throughout History: Primary Sources,
and the excerpt from Tribal Scars all include descriptions of this and further
examples on how the slave trade in Africa violates articles three, four, and five of
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A man whose name struck fear into

slavers directly to his own people; meet Mohammed bin Hamid, better known as
Tippu Tib (the one who blinks). Tippu was born in Zanzibar, he grew up trading
slaves with his father for beads, cowry shells, copper, cotton, and cloth. As he got
older he eventually took over and expanded his father s trade to Arabia, Muscat,
Persia, Turkey, and Egypt. He and his men even made deals with local villages to raid
rival peoples. Tipu himself is guilty of violating articles four and five of The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article four reads as such, No one shall be
held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their

The Minister’s Black Veil
The Minister s Black Veil Characterization
This essay will demonstrate the types of characters present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s
The Minister s Black Veil, whether static or dynamic, whether flat or round, and
whether portrayed through showing or telling.
R. W. B. Lewis in The Return into Rime: Hawthorne states: ... there is always more
to the world in which Hawthorne s characters move than any one of them can see at
a glance (77). This is especially true with such flat or two dimensional characters as
are generally found in The Minister s BlackVeil. These type characters are built on a
single idea or quality and are presented without much individualizing detail (Abrams

Commenting on the realism of Hawthorne s characters, literary critic A. N. Kaul
says: A deeply American writer, Hawthorne is also a peculiarly modern writer. It is
true that often he deliberately, even perversely, shrouds his narratives in a sort of
nameless, dateless archaism, and delights too in calling up figures that seem to
belong anywhere but in the real world (1). Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised
people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a description of some of his
less exotic, less curious characteristics:
Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove
to win his people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive
them thither by the thunders of the Word. The sermon which he now
delivered was marked by the same characteristics of style and manner as the general
series of his pulpit oratory.
However, on this first day of wearing his black veil there is some peculiar difference
in Hooper s sermon:
But there was something, either in the sentiment of the discourse itself, or in the
imagination of the auditors, which made it greatly the most powerful effort that they
had ever heard from their pastor s lips. It was tinged, rather more darkly than usual,
with the gentle gloom of Mr. Hooper s temperament. The subject had reference to
secret sin. . . .
Mental Analysis on Holden Caulfield in J.D. SalingerВґs

Today in the United States, according the Nation Institute of Mental Health, ,
almost one in four adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in any given

considered serious, such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorders, pervasive
developmental disorders, panic disorder, and post traumatic stress disorders (Health
Care Service Corporation) (The Numbers Count: Mental Disorders in America).

adult, Holden Caulfield, who I believe shows many symptoms of several different
mental disorders. In this essay, I will be providing examples straight from The

He also mentions that he is always feels lonely and has a constant urge to commit
suicide, which is a severe symptom of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and
many other mental diseases and disorders. I also believe that these symptoms and
disorders can be kick started by a traumatic event. For Holden, this would be the
death of his little brother, Allie. The death of Allie could cause Holden to idolize
those who have the same characteristics as his kid brother. For example, since Allie
died young, Holden acts more generous and kind to children than he does to adults
or people his age. This is also why Holden idolizes his little sister, Phoebe, because
she shares any characteristics with Allie, including his red hair. Allie s red hair
might also be another reason that Holden cherishes his red hunting cap so much;
Holden described Allie s hair as being extremely red, so the redness of the hunting
cap might resemble the redness of Allie s and Phoebe s hair, so when Holden wears
the cap, he can pretend that he is more like them. However, it can be argued that
Holden s extreme emotions are typical of any teenager going through the transition
from being a child to an adult. Though it is true that adolescence teens ages fifteen
through eighteen are
The Safety Of Skydiving, And A Youtube Video
Cool can be expressed through the courage that people have to experience new
things, including taking risks. What makes skydiving cool is that it presents a
new thrilling experience that not many get to have. Combined with the potential
risks and the overall experience, skydiving has many appeals that can be
considered as cool to the functional aesthetics of a person. Skydiving embodies this
concept of cool because it takes nerve to overcome the perceived risk of death to
jump out a moving plane. It is a unique experience that individuals should put on
their bucket list because it gives the skydivers the opportunity to explore new
feelings that they often would not experience in their normal life. Therefore, the
purpose of the project is to inform and persuade the audience to skydive because it
does not only illustrate cool , but it also functions as stress release. To capture the
interest of the audience, the project will be presented through a PowerPoint that
includes the statistics of the safety of skydiving, and a YouTube video. Through the
use of pathos, the audience will be more likely to be influenced through the
emotions that will be shown in the presentation. Since not many of the audience are
experts on skydiving, the charts and pictures in the PowerPoint will inform the
audience about the prices and give them an idea of how skydiving looks like. It is
also beneficial to present a video because it allows the audience to have an idea of
the perspective that

I Am A New Church Home And Form A Foundation For My
Family
I was raised in a church environment and baptized at a young age. I know this was
the right thing to do to be saved. If I was to leave this earth, I knew if Jesus was the
head of my life and savior that I would spend eternity in heaven with Him and other
deceased loved ones. It was not until I started Union University did I take it more
seriously about finding a new church home and form a foundation for my family. I
knew that times would be hard and my faith would be tested while attending school
full time, raising a family, and working full time. It was at that moment, I knew I
needed strength from the Lord to keep me pushing. Because Union University kept
everything based on a Christian foundation, I have a deeper understanding of
everything being based on Godand Godly ways.

I am one of the many students who were born into a Spanish speaking household.
Obviously my first language is Spanish, but the first language I developed reading
skills in was English. Throughout early years of life, my mother took charge of
teaching me how to pronounce through many methods she acquired. I learned
through the sonic phonic, by people around me like my older sister, who knew how
to speak English already by the time I started, and by reading numerous books. The
various ways I learned English, were the stepping stones for enhancing my knowledge
of the Spanish language. My mom started with what is called the sonic phonic
which is the pronunciation of the ABC s; this is how she taught me to read
through the process. We would go the public library weekly and get various books
for me to read. I would take picture books, but her choices were actual books with
words. It commenced with her reading to me and sounding out the words, then
when I gained confidence with the language, I started reading the books to her. In
this form, my choppy way of speaking began to disappear. Before bedtime, she
would lay next to me and read perpetually. There would be nights where we were
drained, eventually we fell asleep, but we kept up with the reading for the next
night. Our book collection was so massive, it took 2 baskets full to carry the books
which laid right next to my bed. We collected tremendously, in occasions we forgot to
return the books. Considering we read

The focus of motivational therapy is to encourage Josephine to develop a bad

she is capable of change as well as be supportive and knowledgeable. I think it will
be good to also compliment Josephine instead of condescending and also gently
persuade her with understanding the change is up to her.

Effect of Rising Oil Prices on Indian Economy
A rise in global oil prices by $ 10 per barrel would reduce India s economic growth by
0.2 percentage points and also affect the country s current account deficit, Goldman
Sach said.
A VAR (value at risk) analysis suggests that a $ 10 increase in oil would reduce
GDP growth by 0.2 percentage point, Goldman Sachs said in its latest edition of Asia
Economics Analyst .
India on Monday voiced serious concern over the rising crude oil prices, which have
touched a two year high, and said it could badly affect global economic growth and
even give rise to inflationary pressures.
The current oil prices will spur global inflation and retard economic growth. India
feels that this is the concern that needs to be addressed on priority, Minister ... Show

In this background, I found it reassuring to come across opinions from two unrelated
quarters questioning the connection.
CONFIDENT ASSERTION
There is first the confident assertion of the Chairman and Managing Director of
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Mr R. S. Butola, that the impact of higher crude prices
need not always be severe, and can, in fact, be circumvented by means of some
ingenious countervailing measures.
The IOC seems to have achieved this by carrying out crash modernisation and
upgradation of plants and shifting the dominant part of its business plan to
petrochemicals.
For instance, by using modern processes, IOC has been able to convert many black
products into high value fuel such as LPG and petrol, significantly raising the
company s distillate yield from 71.5 per cent in 2004 05 to 75.4 per cent in 2010 11,
and thereby extracting more high value products from every barrel of crude.
A recent IMF working paper (No.11/194) Oil shocks in a global perspective: Are
they really that bad? is a scholarly exposition downplaying the gloomy
prognostications associated with surging oil prices. The importance of the paper is
that it almost exclusively focuses on the economies of developing countries.
It goes into the relationship between oil prices and macroeconomic fundamentals,
including economic output and value and volume of international
The Flaws of the Socratic Method
The Flaws of the Socratic Method
In Plato s Republic, as well as in most of his other works, the philosopher writes
dialogues between the character of his mentor, Socrates, and various figures meant to
illustrate contradictory positions. He carefully scripts the engagements in a form of
discussion now called the Socratic Method, where Socrates critiques the positions of
the other characters in order to find flaws in inaccurate arguments. Although this
method is prevalent even today, I will make the case that even when Plato himself is
using it, the Socratic Method, while not without benefits, is an extremely flawed way
of conducting educational discourse.
The Socratic Method is a dialectic method of argument, meaning that the ... Show

The very nature of the Socratic Method makes for long and winding discussions,
because the Method aims to strip away any falsehoods but provides few tools for
building towards the truths for which it aims. Without a way to cull the ideas
presented by the students, a professor must engage each of them as comprehensively
as the next regardless of their accuracy, or else compromise the integrity of the
dialogue. If he or she instead opts to inseminate information in a more traditional
education style, each lecture and discussion can be tailored to divulge a specific
concept and a specific and relevant set of arguments and objections can be presented
and rejected, rather than struggling through a freeform conversation with inconsistent
results varying from classroom to classroom (Ford 3) (Chen and Taylor).
Additionally, the constant refutation of students necessitated by a teacher engaging
them in a Socratic Dialectic has a questionable impact on the academic outlook of
students. Christopher Ford describes the modern usage of the Socratic Method as
psychologically abusive, saying that the public questioning is terrifying and that the
style is both invasive in that student s knowledge/intelligence is publically examined,
and evasive in that the professor hides the ball from the students. This practice of
systematically and ruthlessly deconstructing any and all flaws in a student s
argument can be extremely humiliating and can trigger
Fault For The Recovery Efforts Of Hurricane Katrina
While there have been many papers and articles written on the organizations most
at fault for the recovery efforts of hurricane Katrina, most of the blame is
wrongfully pointed towards FEMA. In fact, most experts in the hurricane field
knew a storm the size of Katrina would absolutely decimate the city of New
Orleans. The levee system was the primary failure point as mention by The Times
Picayune (2002), another scenario is that some part of the levee would fail .
These levees, combined with the geographical properties of the city itself, are
faults, which clearly were out of FEMAs control. Yet FEMA is still the blame
winner, and the reasoning, is actually not FEMAs fault either. Consequently, poor
decision making, and confusion of who was in charge was the biggest shortfall
during the recovery efforts of Katrina. Prior to the 9/11 attacks, FEMA was an
independent agency, affording it direct access to the president (Haddow, Bullock,
Coppola, 2011). FEMA was actually absorbed into the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) after the attacks, in a shift of focus to terrorism being the largest
threat inside our borders. This had many ill fated results for FEMA as an
organization, the loss of valuable resources, and the creation of the National
Response Planeffectively forced FEMA into a second fiddle during disasters.
According to Haddow, Bullock, Coppola (2011), where previously the director of
FEMA had maintained a clear line of authority and accountability,
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Research Paper
The Romantic Movement that started in the late 1700 s showed change overtime.
During the Romantic Movement, Romantic poetry focused on many different aspects
of writing. Romantic poetry was now more about emotions, artistic views, nature,
imagination, symbolism, myths, and supernaturalism. One poem that is famous for
being written in the Romantic Era is, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The Rime
of the Ancient Mariner focuses on a mariner who tells a man a story about the
journey he experienced while on their way to a wedding. In The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner by Samuel Coleridge, Coleridge shows various characteristics of Romantic
poetryin his writings, the two most important ones being nature and supernatural

everything started to go down because the mariner shot the albatross, the ocean
starts to rot and slimy creatures end up onto the ship from the sea. These slimy
creatures represent supernatural things in this poem. The mariner says, Ah wel a
day! What evil looks / Had I from old and young; / Instead of the Cross the

getting creepier and creepier, the crew members made the mariner wear his burden
around his neck. The dead albatross was hung around the mariner s neck. This
represents the mariner s sin around his neck. Having a dead sea bird around your
neck to represent your sin resembles abnormal things. Due to the bird dying, the
spirits of the bird comes to haunt them. The mariner says, Her lips are red, her

supernatural thing, that gets control of the mariner s ship. The mariner is stuck for
Globalization Is A New Of Level Of Interdependence
Globalization has produced a new of level of interdependence among us. The
economy and multinational supply chains do not abide by political boundaries. A
computer ordered in Brazil is designed in California and assembled in several other
countries. Economic integration was the first strong evidence of a new era Eduardo
Paes. It can be seen now that globalization is something that cannot be stopped. This
process of international integration has come as a result of an interchange of world
views, ideas, product, and other aspects of different cultures. The rapid development
of transportation and telecommunication and furthermore the internet, has boosted
globalization greatly and as a result a greater interdependence of economic and
cultural activities. Interdependence is one the main factors of the economic welfare
of the countries. Both regional and international organizations preach this idea among
their member states and this is one of their main objectives. Nevertheless regional and
international organizations have different geographical areas of operations and
different laws which at some cases might result into conflict with each other. Both the
European Unionand NATO, in which I ll focus my essay on, show proof that there
might be cases where the UN s and international law s influence is nullified. I believe
that regional organizations should be in a continuous cooperation with the
international organizations, but it should be regional organizations as the
Theme Of Ethics In Erin Brockovich
The movie, Erin Brockovich, is based on a true story revolves around a file clerk
named, Erin Brockovich, who represented the community of Hinkley against the
electric corporation Pacific Gas and Electric Company, PG E. PG E faced disputes of
ethical dilemmas and groundwater contamination lawsuits after Erin uncovered and
exposed its unethical business practices. PG E operated a compressor plant in Hinkley
and hexavalent chromium, which could cause severe medical issues, was used to
cool down the machines used at the plants to prevent corrosion in the machinery. The
company failed to take the step of adding liner to the ponds at their plant, which led
to groundwater pollution that affected the water near the compressor plant. PG E
was involved in more unethical behaviors followed by this initial breach of ethics,
such as deception, bribery, and cover up evidence of chromiumuse.

The Fighter Movie Analysis
The Fighter (2010) directed by David O Russell is a captivating and passionate
sports drama. The film was easily able to portray the journey that the Eklund Ward
family took on Micky s road to success in a realistic way which made it easy for me
to understand and develop emotions towards the film and the characters in it. It
was an exceptional watch which captured my full attention. The film made me
realise there is always a struggle with success. I saw and experience this while
watching the film and I am able to take this new found awareness with me into the
real world when the film is over. The performance of the characters and the realistic
portrayal of drugs in this film are major aspects that make this film so beguiling.
In the film the main character Micky Ward is a very promising boxer. Being a boxer
is a family thing, his mother, Alice Ward, is his manager and his stepbrother
brother, Dicky Eklund, is his trainer. Dicky is unreliable and Alice is very resilient.
The two were very controlling over Micky and feel they have some sense of
supremacy of him. However, even though Micky is working hard to try and make
the best of his situation, he keeps getting blows that knock him down. They come in
from the left, the right and all other directions, the hits that he receives seem to be the
consequences of having Dicky and Alice as part of team. Despite this and his latest
fight being unsuccessful, Micky still gets back in the ring.

Little House On The Tracks Character Analysis
Samantha Hoppe Little House on the Prairie and Oklahoma! Journal The
untouched land of the West is a hard place to live. The settlers have to build their
lives from scratch, often with minimal help. In addition, danger is abundant,
whether it be wild animals, Indians, or greedy hired hands. These brave settlers are
quite ridiculous to walk away from their lives of luxury for lives of hard earned
opportunity. Both Little House on the Prairie and Oklahoma!, give the audience a
look into the mindset of a settler. However, this insight is different than what the
audience sees in more traditional texts from the Western genre. These two texts
not only show the difficulties of settlers, but how they choose to overcome them
with the right attitude. Every settler who travels to the West needs to pack their
optimism into their covered wagon as an essential. In Little House on the Prairie,
Pa is the most optimistic character, which makes sense because it was his idea to
move his family, and he needs to stick to his word. He begins the journey by
praising the land, and exclaiming, We can live like kings (49)! He does this in
order to show his family that this new life is attainable and possibly even better than
the life they had before. If the rest of the family wasn t on board with... Show more

Comparing Two Love Poems
The Passionate Shepard to His Love, written by Christopher Marlow is a sonnet
about love and persuasion. Marlow is trying to persuade his crush to come live
with him, and be his love. Marlow s sonnet is very similar to the song Come on
Eileen by Dexy s Midnight Runners, because they are both seduction pieces. In
Come on Eileen, the singer is attempting to win his long time crush over, asking her
to come run away with him. The choice of the words the singer and the poet say,
convey that they cannot live without the person they love; which is one of the main
themes of both pieces. Many devices are used in both works; one that is evident in
both pieces is imagery. In Christopher Marlow s poem, he uses imagery to persuade
his love to live with him. Marlow talks about the finest wool and a thousand
fragrant posies, as he tries to win his love over. In Come on Eileen, the singer uses
imagery by persuading Eileen to not be like the beaten down and smoke dried
people of her town; asking Eileen to run away with him and have a better life.
Another device used is in both pieces is repetition. In The Passionate Shepard to His
love, Marlow repeats the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

face, They re so resigned to what their fate is. In the quote previously indicated, the
singer says how the people of his small town are unhappy and that they do not care;
indicating that if he is with Eileen, they will both have a better life. In The
Passionate Shepard to his Love, Marlow mentions the wonders of his farm. Come
live with me, and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove. Marlow idealizes
his life on the farm and tells his love that her life will be better if he comes and lives
with him. Both of these quotations are related because both authors are persuading
their loves to be with them, with promises of a happier and better
Plate Tectonics, And The World
Plate Tectonics,
And their relation to the world.
___
By Jillian Abreu
There are many ways that earthquakes, plate boundaries, volcanoes, seafloor
spreading, the Earth s core, convection currents, and subduction connect to each
other, but the main way they are all connected is by plate tectonics. It all starts with
plate tectonics. A theory by Alfred Wagner said that Pangaea, which is a land mass of
all the continents combined, had been moved by continental drift to form the
positions our continents are in now. This led to the theory of plate tectonics. This
theory stated that pieces of the Earth s lithosphere are in slow, but constant motion,
driven by convection currents in the mantle. A reason that backed up this theory was

The mantle is one of many layers of the Earth s core. As you can see from the
picture on the left, the first layer is the Earth s crust, which compared to earth, is
like a sheet of paper wrapped around a basket ball. The next layer is the lithosphere.
This layer is broken into plates, better known as the tectonic plates mentioned
earlier. The asthenosphere comes next, which is weak compared to the lithosphere.
Since the layer is hotter, the layer is more soft. As we get closer to the center, we
look at the mantle. The mantle is made of thick, solid rock. The next layer is the
outer core. This core contains of liquid magma with much iron and nickel. Lastly,
there is the inner core. This layer is so hot that the heat melts metal ores into liquid
magma. In this mantle, there are convection currents. Heat from the core causes
convection currents to slowly move the Earth s crust around. All over the crust s
surface, crust is destroyed, and reformed. All plate boundaries movements are moved
by convection currents in the mantle. At the boundaries between plates, magma is
able to force its way to the surface and escape as lava. There are three different types
of plate boundaries known as convergent, divergent, and transform.
Convergent Divergent Transform
As you can see, with convergent plate boundaries, they

Companies can gain some control over the publicity it receives by the release of
news items.
Put together, these promotional activities make up the promotional or
communications mix with varying emphasis on each element according to the type
of product or service, characteristics of consumers and company resources. Company
size, competitive strengths and weaknesses and style of management all influence the
promotional mix.
Other communications elements with which promotion must be coordinated are the
product itself, price and distribution channels used. Product communication, including
brand name, design of packaging and trade marks are all product cues which convey
a message about the total product offering. Price can communicate different things
under varying circumstances, for instance conveying В‘prestige appeal for those
buyers who perceive that a high price is equal to quality and prestige. The place in
which the products are to be found also has notable communications value. Retail
stores have В‘personalities that consumers associate with the products they sell.
Products receive a В‘halo effect from the outlets in which they can be found and two
stores selling similar products can project entirely different product images. For

Media Coverage Of Women In Sports Research
While scrolling on EPSN, which stands for Entertainment and Sports

the main page, I could not help but notice that there were only two videos
pertaining to females in sports, which were Mixed Martial Artist Ronda Rousey,
who is recovering from a fight and the Connecticut Huskies basketball team, who
are currently ranked one in the NCAA Women s Basketball Ranking. There is a
lack of spotlight on women athletes in the media pertaining to their skills or just
acknowledging that women have an existence in sports, whether it s televised or
on social media. Diana Nyad, Michael A. Messner, and Cheryl Cooky research led
them to finding that when it comes to broadcasting women do not receive as much

the U.S women s soccer team is seen as better than the men s team; however, they

Attachment In Harry Harlow s Experiments
Do humans think of their parents as warm and comfortable when they look at
them? Harry Harlow s experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to
see if humans do rely on the importance of warm contact (king,2017), or if it is
simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing theories of love
centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was
merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain
(Cherry,2017). This experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when
someone or something will start developing a bonding connection with their
caregiver. Harlow s experiments correlate with my past experiences whereby I
formed a beneficial attachment by warmth, which is the feeling of being safe and
loved. Harlow s experiment started when the monkeys were separated at birth from
their mother (Green, N.D.). Therefore, the monkeys had no idea who their actual
mother was when the experiment was starting. The monkeys were put in separate
cages and half of them were put with a cold wire mother and the other was a warm,
fuzzy cloth mother (King,2017). The infantmonkeys were being fed by either the cold

incident relates to breastfeeding practices on the ward and is classed as critical
because it triggered an instinctual response in me which made me feel it was not

theoretical knowledge but rather an instinctual feeling. As a result of this instinctual

Ellen, Harry and her husband went home that day with enough supply line

Ellen and Harry with breastfeeding independence. It was not until I spoke to the
Antenatal educator and a casual midwife did I realise why I had uneasy feelings
about what we had done to (not for) Ellen. The antenatal educator highlighted to
me that the postnatal ward is not baby friendly and not to participate in the
breastfeeding practices they promote. She encouraged me to allow extended skin
to skin time and use a hands off approach. A casual midwife further validated and
labelled my bad feelings when she mentioned that she has never seen so many
mothers with breastfeeding troubles then at our hospital and if we were a baby
friendly hospital we would not be able to practice the way that we do. She also
stated that in all her years as a midwife in the Northern territory she had not seen a
baby that couldn t suck. These two women verbalised what I could not, and made me

Emperor Claudius Essay
Introduction
Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus (b. 10 BC, d. 54 A.D.; emperor, 41 54 A.D.)
was the third emperor of the Julio Claudian dynasty. His reign represents a turning
point in the history of the Principate for a number of reasons, not the least for the
manner of his accession and the implications it carried for the nature of the office.
During his reign he promoted administrators who did not belong to the senatorial or
equestrian classes, and was later vilified by authors who did. He followed Caesar in
carrying Roman arms across the English Channel into Britain but, unlike his
predecessor, he initiated the full scale annexation of Britain as a province, which
remains today the most closely studied corner of the Roman Empire. His ... Show

Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almost complete
seclusion. The normal tasks of an imperial prince came and went without official
notice, and Claudius received no summons to public office or orders to command
troops on the frontiers
How he spent the voluminous free time of his youth is revealed by his later
character: he read voraciously. He became a scholar of considerable ability and
composed works on all subjects in the liberal arts, especially history; he was the last
person known of who could read Etruscan. These skills, and the knowledge of
governmental institutions he acquired from studying history, were to stand him in
good stead when he came to power.
His father died on campaign when Claudius was only one year old, and his brother,
Germanicus, succumbed under suspicious circumstances in AD 19. His only other
sibling to reach adulthood, Livilla, became involved with Sejanus and fell from grace
in AD 31. Through all this turmoil Claudius survived, primarily through being
ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot.
Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius
(Caligula), came to power in the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his
bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes and, in keeping with this pattern of
behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46 years of age, it was
Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed

Violence In Chris Crutchers Whale Talk
Chris Crutchers book Whale Talk is a book about T.J. and the swim team but there
are bigger things going on that all revolve around violence. Violence is a huge key
in this book because of Heidi, T.J. s dads death, and the way Rich Marshall treats his
family. Chris Crutchers purpose for writing Whale Talk was to show violence and
how it affects people by using diction, irony, and a modern connection.
Whale Talk uses a lot of swear words which is a form of diction. He uses swear words
to emphasize parts where things are intense for the characters. GET THESE
GODD*** F*** N***** KIDS OUT THE HOUSE (Crutcher 94). Chris Crutcher has
Heidi Marshall say these words to emphasize how violent Rich Marshall is. Rich
Marshall is Heidi s abusive father. Heidi also used the N word which shows racism
and usually when there is racism there is violence. ... Show more content on

In Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher, Rich Marshall loses the basketball tournament to
T.J. s team which makes him lose it. He gets his hunting rifle and goes to the court
to try to shoot Heidi while everyone is celebrating T.J. s team s victory. But T.J. s
Dad leaps in front of Heidi and catches the bullet for her (287). This example of
violence shows situational irony because when reading you think Heidi is going to
get shot but then T.J. s Dad jumps in front of Heidi and gets shot
Was Raleigh Tate Justified In The Trial
Sheriff Tate accidentally stole Arthur s right to be legally protected. Sheriff Tate
might not have been the best sheriff for Maycomb. He lies, tampers with evidence,
and bends the law. He also lets his emotions control his actions and doesn t think
things thoroughly. The death of Bob Ewell was justified because he has done some
horrible things.
Sheriff Tate might have some of the traits and qualities of a good sheriff. However,
would a good sheriff lie, bend the law, or tamper with evidence. When Mayella
claimed she was sexually abused Sheriff Tate didn t take her to see a doctor. He
claimed No sir when Atticus asked But you didn t call a doctor? While you were
there did anyone send for one, fetch one, carry her to one? (224). Mayella could ve
been hurt and they could ve had more evidence, but instead he decided not to get
her a doctor. Sheriff Tate also tampered with evidence when Bob Ewell was killed.
He switched the knives around and took the one that killed Bob Ewell. Then he
insisted Bob Ewell fell on his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He doesn t think things through when his emotions take control. When Tom
Robinson was arrested, he didn t even question him. He confessed that by saying
She identified him as the one, so I took him in. That s all there was to it. (223). He
did that because he was trying to protect Bob Ewell. Sheriff Tate and Bob Ewell
most likely served together in the war. He ended up putting his feelings in front of
the facts. When Sheriff Tate made Atticus shot the dog when it s his job to. He
even tried to convince him by saying for God sake Mr. Finch look where he is miss
and you ll go straight into the Radley s house I can t shoot that well and you know
it. (127). He also yelled at Atticus when there really was no need to. He got said
God damn it, I m not thinking of Jem (368). There really was no need to get all
frustrated like he did. When his emotions he doesn t see things

The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of Art
As literary critics, Plato and Aristotle disagree profoundly about the value of art in
human society. Plato attempts to strip artists of the power and prominence they enjoy
in his society, while Aristotle tries to develop a method of inquiry to determine the
merits of an individual work of art. It is interesting to note that these two disparate
notions of art are based upon the same fundamental assumption: that art is a form of
mimesis, imitation. Both philosophers are concerned with the artist s ability to have
significant impact on others. It is the imitative function of art which promotes disdain
in Plato and curiosity in Aristotle. Examining the reality that art ... Show more content

Art is removed from any notion of real truth, an inherently flawed copy of an already
imperfect world. Art as an imitation is irrelevant to what is real.
Aristotle approaches reality from a completely different premise. While his ideas
do stand in sharp contrast to Plato s, they are not simply a refutation of his former
mentor s views. To Aristotle, the world exists in an infinitely diverse series of parts.
These various parts are open to human observation and scrutiny. Rather than an
eternally regressing truth beyond the scope of human apprehension, knowledge of
truth and good are rooted firmly in the observable universe; truth, or at least
gestures toward it, lies in existence rather than essence. Aristotle encourages
embracing the particular in order to possibly gain a sense of the universal. There is,
however, no universal system of inquiry to investigate each part of the whole.
Different parts require different methods of discourse. In The Poetics, Aristotle
attempts to articulate a method of inquiry, not a rigid system or standard of
evaluation, applicable to tragedy. Tragedy attempts to imitate the complex world of
human actions, and yet tragedy is itself still part of a larger, more complicated world
of human existence. Tragedy is a
Clean Water Act Lab
The Clean Water act of 1972 was intended to regulate the discharge of pollutants

standard of waste water and the quality of water contaminants in the surface water.
The Clean water Act have prohibited discharging pollutant from a point source. (

The purpose of this experiment is to see how roundup effects invertebrate s species
like daphnia, and the measurement of the aquatic toxicity test. My hypothesis for
this lab is that the mortality percentage of Daphnia will rise as the concertation of
the tested product roundup increases, in one of the concertation s I didn t think
any of the daphnia will survive. Materials and Methods: For the experimental part of

For the next step of the experiment we used a graduated cylinder
Recording Techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the
Moon
Recording techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon
The album The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd was an album that pushed
the boundaries on multi tracking and tape looping, as well as mixing in1973. The
engineer, Alan Parsons, use many unusual techniques to help create the sound that
we know and love. Which landed the album on the charts for 750 weeks. Dark side
of the moon was first lead engineering job Alan had with Pink Floyd and only took a
year to record.
To record this album an EMI console, a 16 track tape machine, a Fairchild limiters,
and an EMT plate reverb were used. There were also up to five or six tape machines
doing various delays, reverb delays, ect. at one time. Alan remembers on the mix
having to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first song I will talk about is Speak to Me in the opening of the song there is a
heartbeat this was done with a heavy gated bass drum. Alan used Kepex noise
gates, which were new technology at the time. The band also thought it was a nice
idea to have some speech throughout the record. So they recorded people answering
questions off a stack note cards. Then Alan placed the voices in later where the band
felt it appropriate. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon)
The next song I will talk about Time . When recording this song many unique
techniques were used for the time. Alan suggested to the band the idea of using real
clocks. He made stereo recordings in an antique clock shop. Using a portable tape
machine he record each clock one at a time. Then he put them together on the
multitrack tape by back timeing the quarter inch originals that he had and starting that
next one on time until they were all layer together. (Classic Albums: The Making of
The Dark Side of the Moon)
I think the clocks are a very important component to the song. It was surprising to me
to find out that it was Alan s suggestion. This just goes to show that the band trusted
his creativity and engineering skills.
The song opens with a heavily gated bass line, this was done live many times before
the recording, but it was the new gating technology that was mentioned earlier that
allowed them to get the tick tock
The Patent Of CD Mounting Apparatus For Portable...
Chase Dunn was granted the patent of CD Mounting Apparatus for Portable
Electronic Device on December 6, 2007, patent number US20070278274A1. There
are two patents for mounting devices for vehicles, however, they come with the
hazards of either having to permanently altering the dashboard or risk the loss of
bonding to the windshield. Along with the negative aesthetics and limiting the
viewing area of the driverconcerning these other devices. This patent deals with the
safe and easy handling of portable electron devices (PEDs) by drivers of vehicles.
PEDs concern mp3 players, iPod, cell phones, satellite radios, and other audio
sources. The devicemakes use of the limited space in vehicles dashboard area for a
personal device... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bracket portion is attached to the mounting portion and extends out from the
dashboard with a wat to attach the PED at the end. To attach the PED clips/a
basket, or a flat surface facing the driver with Velcro can be used allowing easy
securement of the PED. The complete device using clips/a basket for the PED
securement is shown in figure 1 on the left. Contained in the patent are six other
figures besides the one shown in Figure 1 that show different embodiments of the
invention in perspective, cross section side, and top down views. This patent
protects many different items relating to this electronic mounting device. The
main protection covers a device made of three elements: part that is inserted into a
CD player, one that extends outward attached to the first, and one that has a way to
attach a PED to the second. This device is used in vehicles and is located in front
of the audio controls on that vehicles dashboard. The first element can be either
wedge shaped or comprised of two parallel plates capable of separation, and can be
adjusted either manually or automatically. Extending from the first is the second
element in a coplanar arrangement and the whole device can be made of a flexible
material so the PED can be adjusted for the best location per person and different
CD player arrangements. The device to hold and/or secure the PED is a
Tuesdays With Morrie, By Mitch Albom
Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on
his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness,
and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals The Meaning of Life, which they
discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death,
Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly
conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And
Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this
wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks
with Albom, the two talk about Death. Describing the discussion, Albom uses
strategies such as irony filled dialogue and existential oxymoron to divulge Morrie
s wisdom and opinions on death, dying, and how the world perceives it all. Morrie
says to Mitch at the very beginning of their discussion, everyone knows they re
going to die, but nobody believes it... If we did, we would do things differently.
Experiencing death himself, knowing that he has run out of years, the old professor
can no longer run from death, and instead knows and accepts it as an inevitable fact.
The irony lies in the fact that everyone ignores this reality, and the saying appeals to
the logos of the audience because it is widely held as truth that, as a whole, humans
ignore death. However, Morrie says that if people didn t, they would have completely

The complexity arises from the need to navigate through diverse viewpoints, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject. Addressing the historical aspects involves delving into the evolution of women's roles, from antiquity to the present day. Analyzing cultural influences further complicates the task, as societal norms and expectations vary widely across different regions and communities. The contemporary landscape introduces modern challenges and opportunities, requiring an exploration of gender equality, empowerment, and the ongoing struggle for recognition and rights. Moreover, maintaining a balanced perspective is crucial to avoid oversimplification or overgeneralization. It's essential to acknowledge the progress made in women's rights while also addressing persisting disparities and injustices. Striking the right tone and maintaining sensitivity to diverse experiences is paramount. Research becomes a cornerstone of the essay-writing process. Drawing from reputable sources, scholarly articles, and real-life narratives is essential for building a robust argument and ensuring the essay's credibility. The challenge lies in synthesizing this information cohesively, weaving a narrative that not only informs but also engages the reader. • 2. A Changing Lifestyle At The Age Of Thirty A Changing Lifestyle At the age of thirty, I am still trying to find my place in the world. I have moved in and out of my parents home several times, and each time I have learned important lessons about life. Gaining independence is often a long and difficult struggle. At the age of nineteen, I moved out of my parents house. Becoming independent for the first time was great. My first apartment was small; it had a one bedroom, and my rent was affordable. When I moved in to the apartment, I smelled the fresh paint on the walls, I see that it had two windows and carpet that felt soft on my feet. I had an old neighbor that lived next door to me to whom I started to become friends. His named was Joe and we would always set around talk and have strawberry cheesecake. Ponderosa Steak House was where I was working when I lived on my own. I worked there four years both baker and cook person. Unfortunately, not everything went smoothly. Before long, my roommates and I were partying too much. My friends that I had enjoyed partying, and I often joined them. We would hang out at my place all night. We drank alcohol, watched movies, sat around talking, and went out to other friends house. I hung out with my friends every weekend. I fell in love with the wrong person whom I dated for four years. My ex s boyfriend was also in to alcohol. We were drinking all the time; however, we would fight on a regular basis. I had to move back into my parents house in order to get myself back on my
  • 3. Essay Marijuana for Medical Use Marijuana for Medical Use For many years the United States government has prohibited some drugs, such as marijuana, from being sold in the marketplace. Yet, even with prohibition, marijuana use has only decreased minimally. Because of its illegality, only the bad aspects of marijuana use have been made known. However, there are many positive aspects of marijuana legalization, including its application concerning medical cures. As of today, in most of the states, marijuana is classified as an illegal drug. However, due to its proven medicinal purposes, the drug should be made available for sick people to use. Marijuana has been used for multiple purposes prior to the birth of Christ. Marijuana originated in the Middle East. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marijuana smoke is a complex mixture that has many chemical components and biological effects similar to tobacco smoke. However, it also contains some different ingredients. This suggests the strong possibility that marijuana, like tobacco, could lead to lung cancer, or create respiratory distress. ?Smoking marijuana also causes changes in the heart and circulation that are characteristic of stress? states Morgan (5). Current evidence has shown marijuana also causes some chemical changes in the brain. After exposure to this drug, there have been reports of effects on brain electrical activity in human beings and in animals. Marijuana also has been found to produce an acute brain syndrome. ?This is a more severe mental problem consisting of confusion and loss of contact with reality? stated Berger (8). The main reason that the United States Drug Enforcement Agency doesn t want marijuana use to be legalized is because there is no evidence to date that proves that marijuana is an effective drug when used for medicinal purposes. Scientists have researched this drug for twenty years and have yet to produce reliable scientific proof that marijuana has medical value. New findings show that marijuana is acutely harmful to AIDS and cancer patients because the active ingredient in marijuana acutely reduces the white blood cells that fight off infection. The United States Drug Enforcement Agency agrees with police departments that if marijuana use is legalized, crime could
  • 4. My Family Values One definition of family is a group of individuals, each a unique masterpiece, sharing unconditional love, hugs and support, and is one of life s greatest blessings to cherish always. Family is not only defined by bloodline or last name, but it s having a strong commitment and love for each other. It simply means showing up when the familyneeds help the most. Moreover, it means having unconditional love when you struggle to like each other. Ultimately, family means being in the moment with each other during both difficult and successful situations and not giving up on family. A great analogy about family is a quote that states, family is like branches on a tree, we all grow in different direction, yet our roots remain as one. These descriptions of family describe my family of origin, and I look forward to learning more about my family through the different family systems theories. My family of origin consists of my mother, stepfather, brother, two sisters, grandparents and my uncle. Our socioeconomic status is middle class, African Americans family, and our religious preference is Baptist. The family s parenting style is authoritarian, which means do as I say, not as I do. The authoritarian approach is very directive and strict. Religion is a big part of my family values. My grandmother went to church every Sunday, and it was an expectation that we attended church as a family, with the acceptation of my grandfather and uncle. My grandfather and uncle have never stepped a foot in a church. Moreover, I have never heard them say anything about God or religion. My mother and grandmother are strong African American women. So, one of the family influenced expectation is that the women pose strong characteristic and any signs of weakness is unacceptable. My grandfather was the head of the family of origin, and all of the decisions about the family were either made by him or required his approval. Although my mother and grandmother contributed to the family income, their main roles were to take care of the house and family needs. My uncle moved away as an emerging young adult. My sibling and I were too young to have roles other than to respect the older members and follow all rules given by authority figures.

  • 7. Saber The Hero s Journey In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the traditional sense. While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to be a typical hero because of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero. According to Joseph Cambell s Hero s Journey, there is a standard set of actions that transpires in multiple stories, particularly in heroic ones. This sequence of actions guides ... To clarify, up until this point it is clear that Saber (in his unheroic like fashion) is mainly relying on others to complete his search. In Cairo, he finally places an advertisement for his father, though in perspective, it means the success of his search practically depends on his father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no further attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. In contrast, Elham cultivates her own future, acquiring a higher education while working as a clerk, a noteworthy feat for a woman in her times. Saber, the supposed hero, however is unwilling to accommodate for a more reliable and realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work he responds, any work I do must come through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later when she actually offers to find him possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s nothing I know how to do (407). Though the reader may wish Saber to choose Elham, thus ultimately developing his character and improving his odds, he remains

Blood Transfusion And Transfusion Related Acute Lung Injury Introduction: Blood transfusion aims in appropriate use of blood and blood products in a safe manner to treat a condition leading to a significant morbidity and mortality which cannot be treated or managed by other treatment measures. However transfusion always carries a risk of triggering adverse reactions as well as transmission of blood borne infections1. Due to this the concept of patient blood management is gaining increasing attention worldwide and Hospital Transfusion Committees (HTC) has been created in different hospitals worldwide to monitor this. The major concern related to mortality by allogenic blood transfusion includes: Transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI) ABO and non ABO haemolytic transfusion reactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recent study for identifying transfusion errors threatening patient safety indicate that the greatest potential risk to patients is due to inappropriate ordering of blood products and error made in labelling5. Let us elaborate further on few of these examples of adverse reactions which have been a major cause of concern in working in a direction for safe and effective blood transfusion. Transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI): It is a condition which develops within 1 6 hours of transfusion of plasma containing blood components and is characterised by acute respiratory distress with severe hypoxemia with bilateral pulmonary oedema. The biggest challenge in this condition is being an immunological response the exact cause of the trigger in the recipient is unknown. The fatality rate related to this adverse reaction is 6 10%6. The reported studies have indicated the involvement of donor HLA antibodies which react with the recipient antigens and lead to the complications. However differentiating TRALI from other conditions is important as for example transfusion associated circulatory overload can also cause symptoms similar to TRALI also respiratory distress is a common finding in anaphylactic reactions after blood transfusion. Investigation of the condition: This is mainly dependent on clinical symptoms and exclusion of other
  • 11. Theme Of Characterization In The Man Who Was Almost A Man Characterization is an important factor in a story, mostly in literary fiction, because it controls the plot. There are different types of characterization one being direct presentation, it tells us straight out who the character is, then there is indirect presentation, where the author is telling us who the characterare by their actions. For a story to be categorized as good fiction it needs to have the three criteria to develop a convincing character; first the characters are consistent in their behavior, second the characters words and actions have to come from motivations that are understandable and believable to the reader, and lastly they need to be lifelike. Meaning the author needs to persuade the reader that the character has a chance of existing in real life. This usually gets the attention of the reader which makes them forget that they are even reading a story. The story The ManWho Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright follows the three criteria in developing a convincing character. The character who follows this criteria is Dave. His behavior is consistent because he has a consent behavior of wanting to feel superior, this is what gives him his motivation in buying a gunto be superior, and the character is plausible because it shows how boys try to grow up and want to be a man and how they try to find ways with manly things to make them feel like a man. Dave passes the first criteria in developing a convincing character because his behavior is consistent
  • 12. The Importance Of The African Slave Trade What was the African slave trade like? Well, the slave trade in Africa was mostly African peoples taking and enslaving other, sometimes rival, African peoples. The newly enslaved people often separated from their families would then be taken and put into shackles, shoved below deck into a stifling and cramped environment; then left for the duration of the trip, surrounded by odious sights and smells. Slavery Throughout History: Biographies, Slavery Throughout History: Primary Sources, and the excerpt from Tribal Scars all include descriptions of this and further examples on how the slave trade in Africa violates articles three, four, and five of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A man whose name struck fear into the hearts of African peoples all along the east coast of Africa, a man who led slavers directly to his own people; meet Mohammed bin Hamid, better known as Tippu Tib (the one who blinks). Tippu was born in Zanzibar, he grew up trading slaves with his father for beads, cowry shells, copper, cotton, and cloth. As he got older he eventually took over and expanded his father s trade to Arabia, Muscat, Persia, Turkey, and Egypt. He and his men even made deals with local villages to raid rival peoples. Tipu himself is guilty of violating articles four and five of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article four reads as such, No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their formsВЁ. Slavery

The Minister’s Black Veil The Minister s Black Veil Characterization This essay will demonstrate the types of characters present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil, whether static or dynamic, whether flat or round, and whether portrayed through showing or telling. R. W. B. Lewis in The Return into Rime: Hawthorne states: ... there is always more to the world in which Hawthorne s characters move than any one of them can see at a glance (77). Commenting on the realism of Hawthorne s characters, literary critic A. N. Kaul says: A deeply American writer, Hawthorne is also a peculiarly modern writer. It is true that often he deliberately, even perversely, shrouds his narratives in a sort of nameless, dateless archaism, and delights too in calling up figures that seem to belong anywhere but in the real world (1). Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a description of some of his less exotic, less curious characteristics: Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove to win his people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive them thither by the thunders of the Word. The sermon which he now delivered was marked by the same characteristics of style and manner as the general series of his pulpit oratory. However, on this first day of wearing his black veil there is some peculiar difference in Hooper s sermon: But there was something, either in the sentiment of the discourse itself, or in the imagination of the auditors, which made it greatly the most powerful effort that they had ever heard from their pastor s lips. It was tinged, rather more darkly than usual, with the gentle gloom of Mr. Hooper s temperament. The subject had reference to secret sin. . . .

He also mentions that he is always feels lonely and has a constant urge to commit suicide, which is a severe symptom of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and many other mental diseases and disorders. I also believe that these symptoms and disorders can be kick started by a traumatic event. For Holden, this would be the death of his little brother, Allie. The death of Allie could cause Holden to idolize those who have the same characteristics as his kid brother. For example, since Allie died young, Holden acts more generous and kind to children than he does to adults or people his age. This is also why Holden idolizes his little sister, Phoebe, because she shares any characteristics with Allie, including his red hair. Allie s red hair might also be another reason that Holden cherishes his red hunting cap so much; Holden described Allie s hair as being extremely red, so the redness of the hunting cap might resemble the redness of Allie s and Phoebe s hair, so when Holden wears the cap, he can pretend that he is more like them. However, it can be argued that Holden s extreme emotions are typical of any teenager going through the transition from being a child to an adult. Though it is true that adolescence teens ages fifteen through eighteen are

What makes skydiving cool is that it presents a new thrilling experience that not many get to have. Combined with the potential risks and the overall experience, skydiving has many appeals that can be considered as cool to the functional aesthetics of a person. Skydiving embodies this concept of cool because it takes nerve to overcome the perceived risk of death to jump out a moving plane. It is a unique experience that individuals should put on their bucket list because it gives the skydivers the opportunity to explore new feelings that they often would not experience in their normal life. Therefore, the purpose of the project is to inform and persuade the audience to skydive because it does not only illustrate cool , but it also functions as stress release. To capture the interest of the audience, the project will be presented through a PowerPoint that includes the statistics of the safety of skydiving, and a YouTube video. Through the use of pathos, the audience will be more likely to be influenced through the emotions that will be shown in the presentation. Since not many of the audience are experts on skydiving, the charts and pictures in the PowerPoint will inform the audience about the prices and give them an idea of how skydiving looks like. It is also beneficial to present a video because it allows the audience to have an idea of the perspective that

If I was to leave this earth, I knew if Jesus was the head of my life and savior that I would spend eternity in heaven with Him and other deceased loved ones. It was not until I started Union University did I take it more seriously about finding a new church home and form a foundation for my family. I knew that times would be hard and my faith would be tested while attending school full time, raising a family, and working full time. It was at that moment, I knew I needed strength from the Lord to keep me pushing. I learned through the sonic phonic, by people around me like my older sister, who knew how to speak English already by the time I started, and by reading numerous books. The various ways I learned English, were the stepping stones for enhancing my knowledge of the Spanish language. My mom started with what is called the sonic phonic which is the pronunciation of the ABC s; this is how she taught me to read through the process. We would go the public library weekly and get various books for me to read. I would take picture books, but her choices were actual books with words. It commenced with her reading to me and sounding out the words, then when I gained confidence with the language, I started reading the books to her. In this form, my choppy way of speaking began to disappear. Before bedtime, she would lay next to me and read perpetually. There would be nights where we were drained, eventually we fell asleep, but we kept up with the reading for the next night. Our book collection was so massive, it took 2 baskets full to carry the books which laid right next to my bed. We collected tremendously, in occasions we forgot to return the books. But setting up such systems can be challenging. For one, a counselor need to attack the fine balance between the need to maintain client privacy and confidentiality and the needto communicate with insurers, other treating professionals and larger health systems. CONFIDENT ASSERTION There is first the confident assertion of the Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Mr R. S. Butola, that the impact of higher crude prices need not always be severe, and can, in fact, be circumvented by means of some ingenious countervailing measures. The IOC seems to have achieved this by carrying out crash modernisation and upgradation of plants and shifting the dominant part of its business plan to petrochemicals. For instance, by using modern processes, IOC has been able to convert many black products into high value fuel such as LPG and petrol, significantly raising the company s distillate yield from 71.5 per cent in 2004 05 to 75.4 per cent in 2010 11, and thereby extracting more high value products from every barrel of crude. The Flaws of the Socratic Method The Flaws of the Socratic Method In Plato s Republic, as well as in most of his other works, the philosopher writes dialogues between the character of his mentor, Socrates, and various figures meant to illustrate contradictory positions. He carefully scripts the engagements in a form of discussion now called the Socratic Method, where Socrates critiques the positions of the other characters in order to find flaws in inaccurate arguments. Although this method is prevalent even today, I will make the case that even when Plato himself is using it, the Socratic Method, while not without benefits, is an extremely flawed way of conducting educational discourse. The Socratic Method is a dialectic method of argument, meaning that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The very nature of the Socratic Method makes for long and winding discussions, because the Method aims to strip away any falsehoods but provides few tools for building towards the truths for which it aims. Without a way to cull the ideas presented by the students, a professor must engage each of them as comprehensively as the next regardless of their accuracy, or else compromise the integrity of the dialogue. If he or she instead opts to inseminate information in a more traditional education style, each lecture and discussion can be tailored to divulge a specific concept and a specific and relevant set of arguments and objections can be presented and rejected, rather than struggling through a freeform conversation with inconsistent results varying from classroom to classroom (Ford 3) (Chen and Taylor). Additionally, the constant refutation of students necessitated by a teacher engaging them in a Socratic Dialectic has a questionable impact on the academic outlook of students. Christopher Ford describes the modern usage of the Socratic Method as psychologically abusive, saying that the public questioning is terrifying and that the style is both invasive in that student s knowledge/intelligence is publically examined, and evasive in that the professor hides the ball from the students. This practice of systematically and ruthlessly deconstructing any and all flaws in a student s argument can be extremely humiliating and can trigger

Fault For The Recovery Efforts Of Hurricane Katrina While there have been many papers and articles written on the organizations most at fault for the recovery efforts of hurricane Katrina, most of the blame is wrongfully pointed towards FEMA. In fact, most experts in the hurricane field knew a storm the size of Katrina would absolutely decimate the city of New Orleans. The levee system was the primary failure point as mention by The Times Picayune (2002), another scenario is that some part of the levee would fail . These levees, combined with the geographical properties of the city itself, are faults, which clearly were out of FEMAs control. Yet FEMA is still the blame winner, and the reasoning, is actually not FEMAs fault either. Consequently, poor decision making, and confusion of who was in charge was the biggest shortfall during the recovery efforts of Katrina. Prior to the 9/11 attacks, FEMA was an independent agency, affording it direct access to the president (Haddow, Bullock, Coppola, 2011). FEMA was actually absorbed into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after the attacks, in a shift of focus to terrorism being the largest threat inside our borders. This had many ill fated results for FEMA as an organization, the loss of valuable resources, and the creation of the National Response Planeffectively forced FEMA into a second fiddle during disasters. According to Haddow, Bullock, Coppola (2011), where previously the director of FEMA had maintained a clear line of authority and accountability,

The settlers have to build their lives from scratch, often with minimal help. In addition, danger is abundant, whether it be wild animals, Indians, or greedy hired hands. These brave settlers are quite ridiculous to walk away from their lives of luxury for lives of hard earned opportunity. Both Little House on the Prairie and Oklahoma!, give the audience a look into the mindset of a settler. However, this insight is different than what the audience sees in more traditional texts from the Western genre. These two texts not only show the difficulties of settlers, but how they choose to overcome them with the right attitude. Every settler who travels to the West needs to pack their optimism into their covered wagon as an essential. Marlow is trying to persuade his crush to come live with him, and be his love. Marlow s sonnet is very similar to the song Come on Eileen by Dexy s Midnight Runners, because they are both seduction pieces. In Come on Eileen, the singer is attempting to win his long time crush over, asking her to come run away with him. Plate Tectonics, And The World Plate Tectonics, And their relation to the world. ___ By Jillian Abreu There are many ways that earthquakes, plate boundaries, volcanoes, seafloor spreading, the Earth s core, convection currents, and subduction connect to each other, but the main way they are all connected is by plate tectonics. It all starts with plate tectonics. A theory by Alfred Wagner said that Pangaea, which is a land mass of all the continents combined, had been moved by continental drift to form the positions our continents are in now. This led to the theory of plate tectonics. This theory stated that pieces of the Earth s lithosphere are in slow, but constant motion, driven by convection currents in the mantle. A reason that backed up this theory was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mantle is one of many layers of the Earth s core. As you can see from the picture on the left, the first layer is the Earth s crust, which compared to earth, is like a sheet of paper wrapped around a basket ball. The next layer is the lithosphere. This layer is broken into plates, better known as the tectonic plates mentioned earlier. The asthenosphere comes next, which is weak compared to the lithosphere. Since the layer is hotter, the layer is more soft. As we get closer to the center, we look at the mantle. The mantle is made of thick, solid rock. The next layer is the outer core. This core contains of liquid magma with much iron and nickel. Lastly, there is the inner core. This layer is so hot that the heat melts metal ores into liquid magma. In this mantle, there are convection currents. Heat from the core causes convection currents to slowly move the Earth s crust around. All over the crust s surface, crust is destroyed, and reformed. All plate boundaries movements are moved by convection currents in the mantle. At the boundaries between plates, magma is able to force its way to the surface and escape as lava. There are three different types of plate boundaries known as convergent, divergent, and transform. Convergent Divergent Transform As you can see, with convergent plate boundaries, they

Harry Harlow s experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to see if humans do rely on the importance of warm contact (king,2017), or if it is simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing theories of love centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain (Cherry,2017). This experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when someone or something will start developing a bonding connection with their caregiver. Through all this turmoil Claudius survived, primarily through being ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot. Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius (Caligula), came to power in the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes and, in keeping with this pattern of behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46 years of age, it was Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed

  • 40. Violence In Chris Crutchers Whale Talk Chris Crutchers book Whale Talk is a book about T.J. and the swim team but there are bigger things going on that all revolve around violence. Violence is a huge key in this book because of Heidi, T.J. s dads death, and the way Rich Marshall treats his family. Chris Crutchers purpose for writing Whale Talk was to show violence and how it affects people by using diction, irony, and a modern connection. Whale Talk uses a lot of swear words which is a form of diction. He uses swear words to emphasize parts where things are intense for the characters. GET THESE GODD*** F*** N***** KIDS OUT THE HOUSE (Crutcher 94). Chris Crutcher has Heidi Marshall say these words to emphasize how violent Rich Marshall is. Rich Marshall is Heidi s abusive father. Heidi also used the N word which shows racism and usually when there is racism there is violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher, Rich Marshall loses the basketball tournament to T.J. s team which makes him lose it. He gets his hunting rifle and goes to the court to try to shoot Heidi while everyone is celebrating T.J. s team s victory. But T.J. s Dad leaps in front of Heidi and catches the bullet for her (287). This example of violence shows situational irony because when reading you think Heidi is going to get shot but then T.J. s Dad jumps in front of Heidi and gets shot

He lies, tampers with evidence, and bends the law. He also lets his emotions control his actions and doesn t think things thoroughly. The death of Bob Ewell was justified because he has done some horrible things. Sheriff Tate might have some of the traits and qualities of a good sheriff. However, would a good sheriff lie, bend the law, or tamper with evidence. When Mayella claimed she was sexually abused Sheriff Tate didn t take her to see a doctor. He claimed No sir when Atticus asked But you didn t call a doctor? While you were there did anyone send for one, fetch one, carry her to one? (224). Mayella could ve been hurt and they could ve had more evidence, but instead he decided not to get her a doctor. Sheriff Tate also tampered with evidence when Bob Ewell was killed. • 42. The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of... The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of Art As literary critics, Plato and Aristotle disagree profoundly about the value of art in human society. Plato attempts to strip artists of the power and prominence they enjoy in his society, while Aristotle tries to develop a method of inquiry to determine the merits of an individual work of art. It is interesting to note that these two disparate notions of art are based upon the same fundamental assumption: that art is a form of mimesis, imitation. Both philosophers are concerned with the artist s ability to have significant impact on others. It is the imitative function of art which promotes disdain in Plato and curiosity in Aristotle. Examining the reality that art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art is removed from any notion of real truth, an inherently flawed copy of an already imperfect world. Art as an imitation is irrelevant to what is real. Aristotle approaches reality from a completely different premise. While his ideas do stand in sharp contrast to Plato s, they are not simply a refutation of his former mentor s views. To Aristotle, the world exists in an infinitely diverse series of parts. These various parts are open to human observation and scrutiny. Rather than an eternally regressing truth beyond the scope of human apprehension, knowledge of truth and good are rooted firmly in the observable universe; truth, or at least gestures toward it, lies in existence rather than essence. Aristotle encourages embracing the particular in order to possibly gain a sense of the universal. There is, however, no universal system of inquiry to investigate each part of the whole. Different parts require different methods of discourse. In The Poetics, Aristotle attempts to articulate a method of inquiry, not a rigid system or standard of evaluation, applicable to tragedy. Tragedy attempts to imitate the complex world of human actions, and yet tragedy is itself still part of a larger, more complicated world of human existence. Tragedy is a

Recording Techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon Recording techniques for Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon The album The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd was an album that pushed the boundaries on multi tracking and tape looping, as well as mixing in1973. The engineer, Alan Parsons, use many unusual techniques to help create the sound that we know and love. Which landed the album on the charts for 750 weeks. Dark side of the moon was first lead engineering job Alan had with Pink Floyd and only took a year to record. To record this album an EMI console, a 16 track tape machine, a Fairchild limiters, and an EMT plate reverb were used. The first song I will talk about is Speak to Me in the opening of the song there is a heartbeat this was done with a heavy gated bass drum. Alan used Kepex noise gates, which were new technology at the time. The band also thought it was a nice idea to have some speech throughout the record. So they recorded people answering questions off a stack note cards. Then Alan placed the voices in later where the band felt it appropriate. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon) The next song I will talk about Time . When recording this song many unique techniques were used for the time. Alan suggested to the band the idea of using real clocks. He made stereo recordings in an antique clock shop. Using a portable tape machine he record each clock one at a time. Then he put them together on the multitrack tape by back timeing the quarter inch originals that he had and starting that next one on time until they were all layer together. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon) I think the clocks are a very important component to the song. It was surprising to me to find out that it was Alan s suggestion. This just goes to show that the band trusted his creativity and engineering skills. The song opens with a heavily gated bass line, this was done live many times before the recording, but it was the new gating technology that was mentioned earlier that allowed them to get the tick tock

  • 46. Tuesdays With Morrie, By Mitch Albom Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness, and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals The Meaning of Life, which they discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death, Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks with Albom, the two talk about Death. Describing the discussion, Albom uses strategies such as irony filled dialogue and existential oxymoron to divulge Morrie s wisdom and opinions on death, dying, and how the world perceives it all. Morrie says to Mitch at the very beginning of their discussion, everyone knows they re going to die, but nobody believes it... If we did, we would do things differently. Experiencing death himself, knowing that he has run out of years, the old professor can no longer run from death, and instead knows and accepts it as an inevitable fact. The irony lies in the fact that everyone ignores this reality, and the saying appeals to the logos of the audience because it is widely held as truth that, as a whole, humans ignore death. However, Morrie says that if people didn t, they would have completely different
