Abolishment Of Slavery In The 1860 s
Slavery in America began during the early 17th century and followed with the abolitionist movement
in the late 1800 s. This movement created a continental divide between southern and northern states.
In the south, there are the Southern Democrats who supported the idea of slavery and believed that the
institution was necessary for the survival of the south. Southern Democrats also argued that the North
turned their back on the real America. While the northern states were composed of Republicans, such
as Abraham Lincoln, whose efforts to exterminate slavery eventually caused the absorption of anti
slavery Whigs and most of the Know Nothing party. In the years that followed, slavery fueled the fire
that started the Civil War. The vast majority of southern states did not favor the abolishment of slavery
in the 1850 s nor 1860 s. On the contrary, the states divided themselves of the increasing problem of
slave versus free territories. The Compromise of 1820, also known as the Missouri Compromise,
admitted Maine to the Union as a free state in 1820 and Missouri as a slave state in 1821. In addition,
the compromise prohibited the use of slavery in all parts of the Louisiana Purchase north of the ...

The Compromises of 1820 and 1850 seemed to have slightly pacified the conflict, but the peace
quickly dissipated. However, Stephen Douglas believed in popular sovereignty when he wrote the
Kansas Nebraska Act. The act grew southern support because it repealed the Missouri Compromise
and gave southerners the authority to bring slaves into Kansas. Although, the north saw the act as a
way for the south to extend slavery just as they did with the Fugitive Slave Act. By mid 1850, the
southern pro slavery party and free soil Whigs division could no longer be

Cinema Paradiso Essay
Cinema Paradiso: Still Relevant Today
Released in 1988 by director Giuseppe Tomatore, Cinema Paradiso follows the life of a young boy in
Italy who dreams of being a filmmaker. The road the boy, who eventually becomes a famous Italian
film director named Salvatore Di Vita, takes to reach his goal is difficult and includes many sacrifices
and trade offs. Today, the film is widely regarded as one of the most popular foreign films ever to be
released in the United States. Given that foreign films are fairly common in America, it is fair to
consider why Cinema Paradiso received such critical acclaim, as well as relative mainstream
popularity. Cinema Paradiso received critical and popular praise because the film includes several
timeless themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance a mentor can play in a person s life is something that many viewers will have
experienced, while the hard decision between love and ambition is another familiar feeling. Many
American viewers will see the scenes involving censorship and consider how the modern American

These themes make Cinema Paradiso both insightful as well as entertaining, and help explain its

Merapi Informative Speech
Today I am going to be talking about Mt Merapi. Mt Merapi is found on an island called Indonesia, It
is an active Stratovolcano and has been erupting constantly since 1548. The eruption of this volcano
that I will be focusing on would be when it had an outbreak on October 25th in the year 2010. Before
it erupted there was an earthquake that killed 5000 people. After the earthquake the impact of the
volcanic event killed more than 353 people.
The causes of Mt Merapi resulted into an earthquake, due to the indo Australian plate being subducted
beneath the Eurasian plate, causes a huge amount of heat generated. The cause of the plates being
subducted is due to convection currents when the Magma warms and rises, it allows cooler magma to
flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also use global positioning system (GPS) and laser beams take repeated measurements between
multiple points along the fault lines to determine plate movement. Seismometers are put into the
ground to sense seismic waves to predict earthquakes. It can be used to prepare people for a volcanic
activity or a tsunami flow. Due to the gas samples and chemical sensors we are able to measure
sulphur levels, so they can predict when the volcano is close to erupting. Thermal imaging is used to
detect heat around a volcano and as the heat increases the activity of the volcano

Cause Of The Mexican American War
The Mexican American war, also known as the Mexican war happened between 1846 and 1848 with
the participants being United States of America and Mexico. Texas, previously a Mexican state, was
the primary cause of the war. A series of disagreements had occurred between Texans and the Mexican
government leading to Texas declaration of its independence in 1836. Later, Texas decided to join the
United States as the 28th state and this infuriated Mexico. Additionally, border disagreements came up
with Mexico claiming the border was at Nueces River while Texas claimed it was at Rio Grande
River. James K. Polk, the president, sent his army to protect the border which ended up in shooting
between Mexican and American troops. It is after this that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This treaty granted Texas independence from Mexico. Regardless of this, Mexico and Texas still
fought over border lines which brewed negative stereotype of the Mexicans from Americans. Later,
Texas joined the United States, and this idea angered Mexico. Border disputes forced both countries to
send their troops to enforce the border lines, a standoff followed. A clash between the armies in 1846
led to the commencement of the war.
How it played out
The Mexican American war was a conventional conflict battled y traditional armies made up of
cavalry and artillery that were mostly European war tactics. The American s managed to penetrate
Mexican land which resorted to using guerrilla warfare as a defence strategy when the Americans
penetrated their territory. After the hostilities began, the U.S. military embarked on a three pronged
tactic that was designed to capture Northern Mexico forcing them to retaliate. Two groups of
American militaries went to southern Texas, and the third troop led by Colonel Kearny embarked to
the western region New Mexico. General Zachary s army defeated the Mexican military after a series
of battles in De Palma necessitating them to move to the south to gain more victory over the
Mexicans. The seizure of Monterey and Los Angeles by the U.S. Navy granted them a second victory.

United States And The Open Skies Agreements Essay
The United States has numerous Open Skies agreements with most countries around the globe. The
agreements allow foreign airlines to fly to the U.S. with few, if any, restrictions from the U.S.
government and U.S. carriers to fly to foreign countries, also with little or no government restrictions.
However, many of the U.S. carriers, such as Delta, American, and United, believe that the Open Skies
agreements have some major loopholes, allowing the few subsidized airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar
Airways, and Etihad, to fly to the United States, as well as numerous other countries across the globe,
at lower operating costs than their non subsidized competition have to pay for the same route. These
agreements also allow the practice of fifth freedom operations. Fifth freedom operations permit one
airline to fly from their home country to another participating country, drop off and pick up
passengers, fly to a second participating country and then fly the whole route in reverse. These routes
are known as fifth freedom routes. Since they oppose the idea of fifth freedom routes, Delta,
American, and United [the U.S. Three] all want the U.S. government to limit the number of flights
these Persian Gulf carriers can operate to the U.S. because they believe that they are losing revenue
and customers to this group, known as the Middle East Three. One popular discussion topic is the idea
of fifth freedom routes. Ted Reed, a contributor to Forbes magazine, explains to the

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Essay
The term Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a general name given to a few disorders that all fall
under the category of inflamed intestines (they become red and swollen.) This is usually due to a
reaction the body causes against its own intestinal tissue. The two most common types of
Inflammatory Bowel Disease are Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn s Disease (CD). Crohn s disease
can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract; however, it more commonly affects the small intestine
or colon. Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic disease, which means that it lasts a long time and
can occur frequently. There are some cases where a person will only suffer from one occurrence of
Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and then be in remission from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

People who suffer from Crohn s disease may also suffer the same risks of colon cancer, but typically
only if the entire colon is affected. There are also rare extra intestinal cases of Inflammatory Bowel
Disease that occur in organs other that the intestinal tract. These symptoms may include arthritis, liver
and kidney disorders, bone loss, and more.
In cases of children suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease, it may also delay puberty. This is
due to the body not absorbing all of the nutrients from their food. They may also suffer from fever,
fatigue, and weight loss.
One symptom that is not definite, but may help decide what form of IBD is present, is where the pain
in the abdomen is located. Typically Ulcerative Colitis patients experience pain in the lower left
section of the abdomen, while Crohn s Disease patients tend to suffer from pain in the lower right
section of the abdomen. With Ulcerative Colitis, bleeding from the rectum during bowel movements is
very common, and bleeding is much less common in patients with Crohn s Disease. (Tresca, 2009)
While Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn s Disease share similar symptoms, they are treated different
medically. There are cases where the diagnosis of one form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease over the
other is very difficult.

Robert Graves’ I, Claudius
Robert Graves I, Claudius Capturing a Strange Moment in History
Tiberius reign over the Roman Empire stretched the longest of any emperor during Claudius lifetime.
This may be a good reason why Robert Graves, in his historical novel published in 1934, I, Claudius
devoted more than a third of it to the reign of Tiberius. I, Claudius , told through the eyes of the half
wit Claudius, records the history of the first Imperial family at Rome, including the reigns of
Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and even Claudius himself. Livia, Augustus wife and Tiberius mother,
played a crucial role throughout the reign of Augustus and Tiberius by eliminating all possible heirs
other than her son to the throne of the emperor. By the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He once said, Let them hate me, so long as they obey me (Graves 38). By this time Livia had already
eliminated Marcellus, Augustus first preference as his successor.
Tiberius could not be totally blamed for his fortunes. As Claudius states:
He was in an unhappy position, forced against his will to be continually in the public eye, now as
general in some frontier campaign, now as Consul at Rome, now as special commissioner to the
provinces; when all he wanted was a long rest and privacy....Moreover, with the dignity of the
Imperial family to maintain and Livia continually spying on him, he had to be very careful of his
private morals. He had few friends, being, as I think I have said, of a suspicious, jealous, reserved and
melancholy temperament, and those rather hangers on than friends, whom he treated with the cynical
contempt that they deserved. (66)
After Augustus died, however, Tiberius became emperor. The Senate, knowing very well that to even
attempt to return to the republican form of government would be a futile effort, one by one voted him
all of the honors that Augustus had received. But Tiberius never used the name Augustus, except when
writing letters to foreign kings. He feared his mother Livia, partially because Livia constantly
reminded him that if her crimes were uncovered,

Radbruch Stalegary Lawlessness And Supra-Statutory Law
In Statutory Lawlessness and Supra Statutory Law Gustav Radbruch talks about the Radbruch
Formula that states extreme injustice is no law. (p.126) Radbruch is against positive law because in a
situation of conflict between legal certainty and justice, positive law takes precedence even when the
content is unjust and fails to benefit the people. (p.132) This is one of the main reasons why Radbruch
criticizes positive law, it fails to create justice for the people. Another reason is that according to
Radbruch, positive law is incapable of establishing validity of the statutes. Legal validity states that
for a law to be valid, it must be given a rule of recognition, which the officials, the society and its
members must accept. Members should have the ability to change the laws that govern them and since
the positive law does not allow this, certain members of the society are subject to unjust laws, and
they cannot do anything about it. For Radbruch, the idea of law comprises of three things; the purpose
of the law in serving the public benefit, justice, and legal certainty. Out of these three, Radbruch
emphasized that legal certainty has the most importance.
Legal certainty is a characteristic of positive law, which means that the legislature enacts the statute. It
ensures consistency in the interpretation of law from time to time and supports the notion that any
statute is better than no statue. Legal certainty is required for public benefit and for justice. Therefore,

Overload In Hockey Training
Before assigning a program regime it is important to analyze both the needs of the individual and the
biomechanics of their required movements. When looking at athletes specifically, a coach should
analyze not only the biomechanical and physiological requirements of the athletes but also how to
improve transfer of training. Goals of hockey players often include improving power and speed of
skating stride or increasing accuracy of the wrist shot. The training plan the athlete should be given to
achieve these goals should involve exercises that mimic contraction types, rate of force production and
biomechanics of these movements. Experience of the athlete and the combination of general and
specific training are crucial factors that determine how training will transfer to performance. Although
weight training will increase the amount of force an athlete can provide, this does not necessarily
guarantee an increased performance within their sport. For this reason, coaches should apply research
that is specific to their athletes sport to increase mechanical specificity, while applying principles of
overload and variation. Overload is when a stimulus of sufficient strength, duration and frequency is
applied to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Commodus
Some claim that Commodus was the worse emperor in the history of Rome. The fact that his father,
Marcus Aurelius, was a popular and successful ruler may have raised the precedent that Commodus
had to live up to. But for whatever reason, Commodus proved a disconnected and self indulgent
leader.
At the age of five Commodus was named Caesar, and at the age of seventeen he became co Augustus
with his father. He spent his childhood accompanying Marcus Aurelius on political campaigns, and
learned a lot on how to run an empire. However, after the death of his father the people of Rome found
that the years under Marcus Aurelius had not impacted Commodus leadership skills. Commodus reign
was filled with bad decisions, causing the people of Rome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Commodus reign continued it became clearer that the ruler was mentally instable. He lived a dark
life, one of self indulgence and debauchery. He neglected his political responsibilities and focused
more on his desires. Commodus had many concubines, and throughout his reign had flings with about
300 women and boys. While distracted by his lifestyle, the emperor allowed prefects to run the day to
day business of the empire. As the prefects became more and more powerful the king would kill them,
making sure that no one threatened his authority.
The brutal way in which Commodus ruled created many enemies of the emperor. Even his sister
conspired against him. However, when her plan came to Commodus attention he exiled her to an
island, and after a while killed her along with all the others involved. Another instance of Commodus
brutality comes from an event in which the emperor ordered the killing of a while city. He did this
horrible act because one of its residents had looked at him in an unfriendly way. This massacre added
to the many infamous deeds Commodus performed.
In AD 190, Commodus took advantage of the unfortunate circumstance Rome found itself in. A fire
had begun and had burned part of the city. The emperor took this opportunity to rebuild the city, and
change its name to Colonia Commodiana. Not only did he rename the city, but he renamed months of
the year after himself, and

The Importance Of Characterization In Upton Sinclair s The...
Have you ever read a good book, and one main them stuck out throughout the entire book? In Upton
Sinclair s novel The Jungle there are many themes throughout the book. One main theme that sticks
out in the book is characterization. Characterization is how choices or actions reveal a change in their
thinking. The main character Jurgis Rudkus had the way he thinks changed at the end of the book.
Several actions and choices effected his life, but not for the better. Jurgis character was very different
at the end of the book compared to the beginning because of the actions and choices he made
throughout his life.
In the beginning of the novel Jurgis was a hardworking family man. Jurgis wanted to take care of his
new wife and was willing to work as hard as possible. When Ona realized that the bill for the
ceremony was beginning to rise she worried about how they would pay it off. Jurgis told her not to
worry that they would pay them all somehow because he will work harder. We will pay them all
somehow. I will work harder. That was always what Jurgis said. (14). Not only was Jurgis thinking
changed at the end of the novel so was his physical features. At the start of the novel Jurgis was big
guy. he with the mighty shoulders and the giant hands. (4). He was also, very strong. Jurgis could take
up a two hundred and fifty pound quarter of beef and carry it into a car without a stagger, or even a
thought (4). All this was great for Jurgis until the troubled times came.

The Writing Of History Is Not An Easy Task That Can Make...
Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of
history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are
incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically
littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at
the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a
specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased
towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s
position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday
writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an
international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia s decision to
execute Prince Turki bin Sad al Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a member
of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has happened was in
1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the life of King Faisal.
(North Korea Times, October 20, 2016). The method in which the prince was executed was not

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color
change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in
this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the
water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not
change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from
the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its
usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change
because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did
not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven
dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the
vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same.
Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance.
Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the
main focus of experiment two was

The Role Of Cousins In Professional Sports
With the NFL off season fast approaching, there are a lot of storylines to keep an eye on that could
make this off season really interesting. One story to keep an eye on is the drama between the
Washington Redskins and their franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Ever since the last off season, Cousins has been asking to get a new contract the problem with that is
the team and Cousins can not agree on a deal. Over the past few weeks, people have been speculating
if the team would trade him. The question now is should the team trade Cousins?

The only thing that is standing in his way of getting a new deal is how much does he want? It all
depends on his asking price, he is heading to his 30 s soon so he should want to get the most money he
can get right now and not wait.
On the Redskins side of things, the team is playing the waiting game with Cousins when it comes to a
new contract which could at the end of the day be a really bad thing. Multiple reports that are out there
are saying that the team does not think he is worth the money he is asking for.
The Redskins should do the smart thing and just lock him up right now as long as he does not want
over 100 million dollars a fair asking price is between 50 million dollars and 70 million dollars. There
are not a lot of franchise quarterbacks out there right now, and the team can not afford to lose him
right now.
At the end of the day, the Redskins should not trade Cousins he is too valuable to the franchise right
now and he means a lot to the locker room. If the team does trade him, there are not going to be a lot
of options to replace him with the quarterbacks in the draft do not have the potential that Cousins has

screen, Gil Shepard, an actor who impersonates Tom, comes to persuade Tom to return to the film,
while pursuing Cecilia at the same time. In the end, Cecilia chooses to stay in reality but ends up alone
due to Gil abandoning her for his career in Hollywood. Allen sets the story background in New Jersey
during the Depression, when moviegoers frequently went to see films in order to escape from their
hopeless reality caused by underemployment and the market downturn of the 1930s. Allen was
especially inspired to create a film set in the 1930s, since this period coincided with his childhood, and
he recalled the passionate cinema audiences of the time (Allen and Bj?rkman, 2004). Established as a
reflexive fiction based on the ?past?, The Purple Rose of Cairo embodies Allen?s recollection of his
boyhood cinephilia. Thus the work bears autobiographical determination, representing Allen?s

Bipolar Is The Most Severe Form Of This Illness
Ryan Bender Cognitive Psychology Bipolar I Disorder December 4, 2015 Bipolar I Disorder
Background There are a wide range of mental disorders, also know also mental illnesses. The
conditions of them affect mood, thinking, and behavior. The most common types include major
depressions, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, just to name a few. For this paper I
am going to discuss and focus on bipolar I disorder being that it is the most severe form of this illness.
Bipolar Disorder is a serious mental illness. Individuals with this disorder experience common
emotions that become intense and often unpredictable. Individuals with bipolar disorder are known to
quickly switch from extremes of happiness, displaying energy and clarity, to sadness, feeling fatigue
and confusion. All people with bipolar disorder have manic episodes; irritable moods that abnormally
elevate and last at least a week and that cause damaging functioning. Although they all face mood
swings, not all individuals with this disorder become depressed. The shifts in their moods can be
devastating and traumatic. With the extremity of them, individuals may choose suicide to stop them all
together (Kazdin, A. 2000). Bipolar disorder or manic depression, known by its older name, is a
mental disorder that is characterized by constant mood changes. Individuals experience alternating
highs, what clinicians call mania and lows also known as depression. A manic episode

Children And Children
Introduction Children s art can tell their perspective on themselves, of their area, and of other people
as well. Research articles such as as use methods such as children s drawing to understand children s
self perception (Morgan, 2001; Rübeling, Keller, Yovsi, Lenk, Schwarzer, Kühne, 2001) Other studies
use children s drawing of their family to understand how they interact with them (Bannon, Tirella,
Miller, 2016). Some studies also look at children s drawings of their community to learn about what
places impact them the most (Quiroz, Milam Brooks, Adams Romena, 2014). Researchers also use

Literature Review
Researchers use concepts such as Photovoice to analyze and learn about children s perspectives and
view of their community. Photovoice is used often in fields such as Social Work as part of community
based research where participants are given cameras to document their environment for researchers to
analyze. Research by Alaca, Rocca, Maggi (2017) uses this method. The participants from their study
included 32 children between the ages of three and five. In collaboration with the school, researchers
and teachers did a segment to help children develop a concept of community through engaged learning
such have having children collaborative make a cardboard city. After the concept of community
finished, they did another segment on Photovoice and allocated time to let children practice using
disposable cameras. Researchers also interviewed participants to get them to talk about the photos
they took.
Alaca, Rocca, Maggi (2017) found that children often spoke of their family or depicted their family in
the study with mentions of love and sharing. When giving descriptions of photos, children often
mentioned stories of friendship with the people they live around. Many of the photos were taken near
their home. This common theme was often coupled with phrases such my house and were positive

OG Supplemental Compliance Principles
After reviewing the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Supplemental Compliance Guidelines for
Hospitals I have found that there is great purpose for a compliance document in a healthcare facility.
The purpose of this document in a healthcare facility is to be able to act as a guideline for healthcare
facilities to consider, develop, and implement a compliance plan that meets federal regulations.
Healthcare facilities have these compliance documents to help to cover and verify all that all services
ordered for a patient were reasonable and necessary services for the patient to be treated accordingly
and without fail. These compliance documents need to be retained to reflect that the healthcare facility

The Fall Of The Great Library
The Fall of the Great Library
The Beginning of the End
The House of Wisdom thrived under the rule of Al Mamun. Along with it, Baghdad and the rest of the
Muslim world experienced developments in different fields from the arts to the sciences. There were
more scholars than ever and exchange of ideas between the Middle East and other parts of the world
flourished. However, when Al Mutawaki succeeded the throne in 847, things began to change. Known
to be a strict follower of the Qur an, literally interpreting its laws, Al Mutawaki prohibited the entry of
foreign visitors in the House of Wisdom.
Al Mutawaki also stopped collecting books and other texts from Greece and other non Muslim
countries. He believed that spreading Greek philosophies was anti Islamic. Moreover, the new caliph
significantly cut funding for the improvement and maintenance of the library. Instead, he diverted
funds to expanding the council of elders powers to implement Islamic Law. Indeed, this was the
beginning of the end.
The War That Destroyed Everything
By the early 1200s, the Abbasid caliphate had significantly weakened. On the other side of the world,
the Mongol empire was gaining more power beyond their borders. They had assembled a strong army,
subjugating the tribes in the Mongolian Plateau. This included the Tatars, a community of hunters and
warriors. Swearing allegiance to the Khan, the Tatars turned into the Mongols most dangerous army.
To extend his rule further, Mongke Khan

Changing The Changing Of The Seasons
Changing of the Seasons Every season changes the look of the world differently. Some seasons make
the environment bloom while other seasons put the environment to rest for a period of time. Seasons
change from the blazing sun of summer, to the vivid colors of the fall, and then the freezing snow of
winter. Many people vary in which season they relish the most, but I enjoy three of the four seasons
Mother Nature has to offer. I savor the time during the summer, fall, and winter that I get to spend
with family and friends. Nothing compares to the scorching heat of summer, the chilling breeze of fall,
or sub zero temperatures of the winter. I m a huge fan of the summer, fall, and winter. Winter is the
most wonderful time of the year. The white snow covers the ground like white fluffy blanket. I stay
indoors in the warm heat and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate with family and friends. I look out the
window into the bright light made by the crystal white snow and the shining sun. I walk outside in the
frigid cold wrapped up in multiple layers of clothes to protect me from the harsh winter winds. The
town is at a silent stand still as snow covers all the roads. I pick up a handful of snow, and take a bite it
tastes like a flavorless sno cone. I walk a couple blocks to see dozens of little kids riding sleighs down
the icy slopes of Main Street. I make my way back home, but I could hear a loud screeching noise

The Tragedy Of Oedipus The Play Oedipus
The beginning of the plot of the play, Oedipus s objective was to figure out who murdered King Laïos,
to then capture him and put a stop to the plague spreading around Thebes. King Oedipus is profoundly
concerned about his people, and is determined to relive the misery that is occurring due to the curse in
his city. When he starts investigating, the idea was brought up that it is possible that he, himself, killed
King Laïos and that changes his mindset in a different path. Oedipus is aware that years ago before he
came to Thebes, he had an encounter with a stranger that almost endangered his life and killed the
man in self defense. And there a herald came towards me, and a chariot drawn by horses, with a man
such as you describe seated in it. The groom leading the horses forced me off the road at his lord s
command...Swinging my club in this right hand I knocked him out out of his car, and he rolled on the
ground. I killed him. (pg.1240) Little did he know that the man was King Laïos; it seems like
everyone in the play seems to know that Oedipus is the murderer of King Laïos but something keeps
them from revealing that to him. All the confusement that is brought to Oedipus is there reason why
the question Who killed Laïos? turned to Who am I? Discovering who he is, is the key in determining
whether he is the possible murderer of King Laïos. On the level of the plot, the answer Son of Laïos

A Risk Management Log is started during the planning phase. As scheduling, budgeting, and resource
planning occur, the worksheet is updated to reflect further risks identified in the planning.
At project startup, the Risk Management Log is reviewed again, and any new risks are added to it. As
the project progresses, members of the team identify new risk areas that are added to the Risk
Management Log.
Risk identification is a recurring event; it is not performed once and then set aside. Risk identification,
management, and resolution efforts continue throughout the life of the project. New risks are
identified as the project progresses and external and internal situations change. Trigger dates can be
included in the schedule for tracking risks.
Project risks are likely to be identified in two ways:
1. By Project Leadership during meeting discussions, as well as ongoing day to day operations.
2. Via day to day activities, such as team working sessions and status meetings. Teams will manage
risks within their teams and escalate them as appropriate.

Inequality Vs Economic Inequality
To begin with, all men are not created equal, they live different lives and posses different abilities.
Although some people possess greater talents than others, no person is better than any other person;
such as a celebrity or a homeless person. People who possess great talents that are useful to society are
often accepted and more recognized, but then bring down those who are different as in color or sex so
that they may not practice their skills.
First of all, although the U.S. Constitution proffers equal rights to all, money is the source of power.
Consequently, when a person owns more money and they have skills that others don t, they usually
come on top begetting power and great influence in the world. Although there are many different
branches of inequality, two inequalities focused in this paragraph are social inequality and economic
inequality; which are closely related to one another. Furthermore economic inequality is the difference
found in various measures of economic well being among individuals in a group, among groups in a
population, or among countries. To put it simply, economic inequality is the difference in wealth of the
people and of the world. Also, social inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards
given for different social positions or statuses within a group of society, meaning those with power
and money are open to paths with more opportunities and rewards while others are only given so
much opportunity, but no person should

Immediately after this declaration, the government tightened its controls on the Indian mass media,

on the Indian mass media. This was especially true since radio and television in India are government
owned and operated; for Indira, there was the simple matter of controlling the newspapers in order to
achieve a total control of the mass media. She used at least three methods in manipulating the
newspapers: (1) allocation of government advertising; (2) shotgun merger of the newsagencies;and
(3) use of fear arousal techniques on newspaper publishers, journalists and individual shareholders.
The Indian newspapers depend a great deal on governmental advertising; without such revenues, it
would be difficult for many
Indian newspapers to stay in business. Unfortunately, this has kept many ofthem vulnerable

the funding that they had received. Once a month the teens get to plan out what they want to do that

The Boxing Day Tsunami And The Real World Tsunami
Tsunamis are unfortunate events that humanity will have to deal with for eternity. They one of the
most versatile forms of a natural disaster, as they can be caused by a rockslide, underwater earthquake,
certain volcanic eruptions, or a high velocity impact of a sizeable object within a body of water (1).
The media and scientific research has done a sufficient job in covering real world tsunamis and relief
efforts, which in turn has help trigger natural human curiosity regarding the subject. The film industry
has capitalized off of this, and has made a numerous amount of movies either based on, or featuring
these devastating waves. As depicted through real events and in the movies, tsunamis generally
behave in the same manner, yet each one has a different speed and height due to various factors.
Furthermore, every location of possible impact treats the way they prepare and react to a disaster
differently. Through the examination of the real life Boxing Day Tsunami, and the fictional tsunami in
Roar Uthaug s The Wave, these claims can be further expanded upon and reinforced.
December 26, 2004 is a date that will live in infamy, and has personal value for millions of people
around the world. What started out as a fine day in Southeast Asia, would turn into a catastrophic
nightmare that would go on to be dubbed the Boxing Day Tsunami. The tsunami was triggered by an

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and
collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements
belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important
and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen s A
Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the
nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The
play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The
original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to
reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines
DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative directorial decisions
on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s play without drifting from
the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and
modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is
different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something
that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen s A Doll

Comprehensive Assessment Of Wetlands
Society views about wetlands have changed considerably since the continent was settled by the
colonists, and especially since the mid 20th century when interest in wetland preservation and
protection for the functions and values they serve emerged (Dahl Allord, 1996). In the 1700 s, there
were approximately 90 million hectares of wetlands in what is now the conterminous forty eight
states, with a significant proportion of those associated with the nation s river systems (Dahl, Johnson,
Frayer, 1991). Two hundred years later, over half of this area has been lost or significantly modified
by some form of conversion or by alteration of the hydrologic regime (Dahl Allord, 1996; Hauer

I Visited The David Owsley Art Museum
Have you ever had a painting that really spoke to you? When I visited the David Owsley Art Museum
there was one painting in particular that stuck out to me, it was: Right Bird Left by Lee Krasner. This
painting made me feel happy and gave me a lot of energy during the time I was at the museum. The
reason I was happy and energized was because the painting conveyed extremely bright colors. I am a
fan of these colors, which gave me a sense of joy and the energy. It caught the attention of my eye by
using several different visual elements to depict an abstract representation art piece. Along with that, it
used the principles of design to help the visual elements play out and work in the painting, allowing
those elements to be depicted to my human eye correctly. This piece resembled bird feathers, but the
artist used many different techniques to provide a bigger underlying meaning that was hiding behind
such a complex painting. This piece was one of the first to the start off my learning abilities of how to
understand and appreciate artwork for what it is truly worth.
The painting called Right Bird Left, made me feel extremely happy. The bright colors are what drew
me over to start looking at the painting. I never would have approached this picture if it were not for
its size and the effective use of bright colors. I loved standing in front of it, looking at the image, and
admiring all of the brush strokes and textures displaced in the different areas of the painting. I admire

Roles Of Governor In Federations
Introduction:
A governor (from French gouverneur) is a governing official, usually the executive of a non sovereign
level of government, ranking under the head of state. In federations, a governor may be the title of
each appointed or elected politician who governs a constituent state.
In countries the heads of the constitutive states, provinces, communities and regions may be titled
Governor, although this is less common in parliamentary systems such as in some European nations
and many of their former colonies, which use titles such as President of the Regional Council in
France and Minister President in Germany, where in some states there are governorates (German:

Analysis Of The Yoknapatawpha River In As I Lay Dying
Spring; hurricane. Much as these are both related to water, they differ greatly in their impact on
societies while one brings hope and life to weary travelers, the other brings struggle accompanied by
death. Throughout most of literary history, writers have explored this idea of poly indicative identity,
whether that be with the vast depths of water or some other symbol, and William Faulkner s novel As I
Lay Dying is no exception to this idea. From rivers to the fish that inhabit them, As I Lay Dying is
composed with a symphony of different symbols, however, one of the more persistent ones is that of
the river. By incorporating certain aspects of the Yoknapatawpha River, Faulkner is able to allow the
work to flow more smoothly, more easily incorporate ideas about the themes of death and barriers, as
well as enhance the characterization of certain figures. A symbol is, at its base, a literary object, an
object that besides holding a symbolic meaning also holds a literal one. Although the symbolic is
generally focused upon in class, the literal must not be forgotten, for it can often be just as important
the primary focus for literal objects is in terms of plot development and flow. In the novel As I Lay
Dying, the Yoknapatawpha River is used to provide a physical barrier for the Bundren family. As the
Bundrens, and some of their neighbors, are traveling to bury Addie, they are delayed by rainfall that
has made the river ... too high to get across (111). By including

Realist Fiction As Realistic Fiction
Genre Why:
The novel is classified as Realistic Fiction because the events of the novel could take place in real life.
Text Evidence:
On page 5, the author provides a detailed, realistic setting told by the protagonist s point of view That
summer, let s see, I m still living under the basement, my own private down under, in the little room
Grim built for me there. Glued up this cheap paneling, right? It sort of buckles away from the concrete
cellar walls, a regular ripple effect, but do I complain about the crummy paneling, or the rug that
smells like old tide? I do not. (Philbrick, 5) The readers can also infer about the character through their
dialect, and in this case, the protagonist seems to be observant of their surroundings and is mostly
likely still in school.
In a family conflict on page 89, it shows conflict seen through the protagonist s eyes. ....this shouting
starts upstairs, Understand, Grim never yells at Gram, not that I can ever remember, and Gram, well,
the worst thing she ever does is cry when she s mad. But somebody else sure is yelling up there, and
so I sneak up the stairs and I don t even have to put my ear to the door, that s how loud it is. Through
the protagonist, we see the situation realistically and vividly and how this is affects certain people.
This is described vividly that it feels like we are experiencing what the protagonist is experiencing.

The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population
Discussion:
The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the
Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in
Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the bark
as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean moisture
content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.96136).
The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a percentage
reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24% from the tree
height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine trees, also
found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree height
increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a closer
proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil is
relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass
surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more
moisture contact. Claire Shi (2016), conducted a similar research on trees at a different area at the
Victoria Esplanade. The results from her research show that the moisture

  • 3. Abolishment Of Slavery In The 1860 s Slavery in America began during the early 17th century and followed with the abolitionist movement in the late 1800 s. This movement created a continental divide between southern and northern states. In the south, there are the Southern Democrats who supported the idea of slavery and believed that the institution was necessary for the survival of the south. Southern Democrats also argued that the North turned their back on the real America. While the northern states were composed of Republicans, such as Abraham Lincoln, whose efforts to exterminate slavery eventually caused the absorption of anti slavery Whigs and most of the Know Nothing party. In the years that followed, slavery fueled the fire that started the Civil War. The vast majority of southern states did not favor the abolishment of slavery in the 1850 s nor 1860 s. On the contrary, the states divided themselves of the increasing problem of slave versus free territories. The Compromise of 1820, also known as the Missouri Compromise, admitted Maine to the Union as a free state in 1820 and Missouri as a slave state in 1821. Although, the north saw the act as a way for the south to extend slavery just as they did with the Fugitive Slave Act. Texas, previously a Mexican state, was the primary cause of the war. A series of disagreements had occurred between Texans and the Mexican government leading to Texas declaration of its independence in 1836. Later, Texas decided to join the United States as the 28th state and this infuriated Mexico. • 7. United States And The Open Skies Agreements Essay The United States has numerous Open Skies agreements with most countries around the globe. The agreements allow foreign airlines to fly to the U.S. with few, if any, restrictions from the U.S. government and U.S. carriers to fly to foreign countries, also with little or no government restrictions. However, many of the U.S. carriers, such as Delta, American, and United, believe that the Open Skies agreements have some major loopholes, allowing the few subsidized airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, to fly to the United States, as well as numerous other countries across the globe, at lower operating costs than their non subsidized competition have to pay for the same route. These agreements also allow the practice of fifth freedom operations. Fifth freedom operations permit one airline to fly from their home country to another participating country, drop off and pick up passengers, fly to a second participating country and then fly the whole route in reverse. These routes are known as fifth freedom routes. Since they oppose the idea of fifth freedom routes, Delta, American, and United [the U.S. Three] all want the U.S. government to limit the number of flights these Persian Gulf carriers can operate to the U.S. because they believe that they are losing revenue and customers to this group, known as the Middle East Three. Crohn s disease can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract; however, it more commonly affects the small intestine or colon. Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic disease, which means that it lasts a long time and can occur frequently. People who suffer from Crohn s disease may also suffer the same risks of colon cancer, but typically only if the entire colon is affected. There are also rare extra intestinal cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease that occur in organs other that the intestinal tract. These symptoms may include arthritis, liver and kidney disorders, bone loss, and more. In cases of children suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease, it may also delay puberty. This is due to the body not absorbing all of the nutrients from their food. They may also suffer from fever, fatigue, and weight loss. One symptom that is not definite, but may help decide what form of IBD is present, is where the pain in the abdomen is located. Typically Ulcerative Colitis patients experience pain in the lower left section of the abdomen, while Crohn s Disease patients tend to suffer from pain in the lower right section of the abdomen. With Ulcerative Colitis, bleeding from the rectum during bowel movements is very common, and bleeding is much less common in patients with Crohn s Disease. (Tresca, 2009) While Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn s Disease share similar symptoms, they are treated different medically. This may be a good reason why Robert Graves, in his historical novel published in 1934, I, Claudius devoted more than a third of it to the reign of Tiberius. I, Claudius , told through the eyes of the half wit Claudius, records the history of the first Imperial family at Rome, including the reigns of Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and even Claudius himself. Livia, Augustus wife and Tiberius mother, played a crucial role throughout the reign of Augustus and Tiberius by eliminating all possible heirs other than her son to the throne of the emperor. By this time Livia had already eliminated Marcellus, Augustus first preference as his successor. Tiberius could not be totally blamed for his fortunes. As Claudius states: He was in an unhappy position, forced against his will to be continually in the public eye, now as general in some frontier campaign, now as Consul at Rome, now as special commissioner to the provinces; when all he wanted was a long rest and privacy....Moreover, with the dignity of the Imperial family to maintain and Livia continually spying on him, he had to be very careful of his private morals. He had few friends, being, as I think I have said, of a suspicious, jealous, reserved and melancholy temperament, and those rather hangers on than friends, whom he treated with the cynical contempt that they deserved. (66) After Augustus died, however, Tiberius became emperor. The Senate, knowing very well that to even attempt to return to the republican form of government would be a futile effort, one by one voted him all of the honors that Augustus had received. But Tiberius never used the name Augustus, except when writing letters to foreign kings. • 11. Radbruch Stalegary Lawlessness And Supra-Statutory Law In Statutory Lawlessness and Supra Statutory Law Gustav Radbruch talks about the Radbruch Formula that states extreme injustice is no law. (p.126) Radbruch is against positive law because in a situation of conflict between legal certainty and justice, positive law takes precedence even when the content is unjust and fails to benefit the people. (p.132) This is one of the main reasons why Radbruch criticizes positive law, it fails to create justice for the people. Another reason is that according to Radbruch, positive law is incapable of establishing validity of the statutes. Legal validity states that for a law to be valid, it must be given a rule of recognition, which the officials, the society and its members must accept. Members should have the ability to change the laws that govern them and since the positive law does not allow this, certain members of the society are subject to unjust laws, and they cannot do anything about it. For Radbruch, the idea of law comprises of three things; the purpose of the law in serving the public benefit, justice, and legal certainty. Out of these three, Radbruch emphasized that legal certainty has the most importance. Legal certainty is a characteristic of positive law, which means that the legislature enacts the statute. It ensures consistency in the interpretation of law from time to time and supports the notion that any statute is better than no statue. Legal certainty is required for public benefit and for justice. Therefore, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Overload In Hockey Training Before assigning a program regime it is important to analyze both the needs of the individual and the biomechanics of their required movements. When looking at athletes specifically, a coach should analyze not only the biomechanical and physiological requirements of the athletes but also how to improve transfer of training. Goals of hockey players often include improving power and speed of skating stride or increasing accuracy of the wrist shot. The training plan the athlete should be given to achieve these goals should involve exercises that mimic contraction types, rate of force production and biomechanics of these movements. Experience of the athlete and the combination of general and specific training are crucial factors that determine how training will transfer to performance. Although weight training will increase the amount of force an athlete can provide, this does not necessarily guarantee an increased performance within their sport. For this reason, coaches should apply research that is specific to their athletes sport to increase mechanical specificity, while applying principles of overload and variation. While distracted by his lifestyle, the emperor allowed prefects to run the day to day business of the empire. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s position on the topic. The salt was added to water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The Purple Rose Of Cairo Chapter 3 The third chapter will mainly discuss Woody Allen?s The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) to examine how a theme about cinema goers reflects a desire from the filmmaker and the audience. The film fabricates a fantasy where the protagonist of a film called ?The Purple Rose of Cairo?, Tom Baxter (enacted by Jeff Daniels), ?steps? out of the film during a screening. He joins Cecilia (starred by Mia Farrow), a frustrated waitress and aggrieved wife who has watched this film countless times, and starts an adventure in the real world. Confronting the chaos caused by Tom arbitrarily leaving the screen, Gil Shepard, an actor who impersonates Tom, comes to persuade Tom to return to the film, while pursuing Cecilia at the same time. In the end, Cecilia chooses to stay in reality but ends up alone due to Gil abandoning her for his career in Hollywood. Allen sets the story background in New Jersey during the Depression, when moviegoers frequently went to see films in order to escape from their hopeless reality caused by underemployment and the market downturn of the 1930s. Allen was especially inspired to create a film set in the 1930s, since this period coincided with his childhood, and he recalled the passionate cinema audiences of the time (Allen and Bj?rkman, 2004). People who possess great talents that are useful to society are often accepted and more recognized, but then bring down those who are different as in color or sex so that they may not practice their skills. First of all, although the U.S. Constitution proffers equal rights to all, money is the source of power. Consequently, when a person owns more money and they have skills that others don t, they usually come on top begetting power and great influence in the world. Although there are many different branches of inequality, two inequalities focused in this paragraph are social inequality and economic inequality; which are closely related to one another. Furthermore economic inequality is the difference found in various measures of economic well being among individuals in a group, among groups in a population, or among countries. To put it simply, economic inequality is the difference in wealth of the people and of the world. Also, social inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards given for different social positions or statuses within a group of society, meaning those with power and money are open to paths with more opportunities and rewards while others are only given so much opportunity, but no person should ... Immediately after this declaration, the government tightened its controls on the Indian mass media, especially o n the newspapers which had reputations of being free and lively. During the Summer of 1975, as Indira Gandhi became increasingly more threatened by the mounting criticisms of her government, she declared a state of emergency. H e urged the editors t o express their ideas fearlessly: However, Indira Gandhi s call made editors suppress their best thoughts, and for the Indian mass media, freedom became a matter of history. Like other dictators in history, Indira Gandhi s first attempt was t o impose thought control o n the populous. F o r her, this was t o be effectuated not merely by controlling the Indian mass media but also by moulding the media t o her own purpose. It has now becomea well known fact that during the emergency Indira Gandhi had a firm grip on the Indian mass media. This was especially true since radio and television in India are government owned and operated; for Indira, there was the simple matter of controlling the newspapers in order to achieve a total control of the mass media. She used at least three methods in manipulating the newspapers: (1) allocation of government advertising; (2) shotgun merger of the newsagencies;and (3) use of fear arousal techniques on newspaper publishers, journalists and individual shareholders. The Indian newspapers depend a great deal on governmental advertising; without such revenues, it would be difficult for many Indian newspapers to stay in business. YAK was first funded by a frozen yogurt company that wanted teens to have a place they can be themselves without fear of being teased. The librarians decided to call the program YAK in thanks of the funding that they had received. Once a month the teens get to plan out what they want to do that month. Some of the things that get chosen are improv, creative writing, trivia, game day, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, murder mysteries and the occasional game of Quidditch at the park. • 35. The Boxing Day Tsunami And The Real World Tsunami Tsunamis are unfortunate events that humanity will have to deal with for eternity. They one of the most versatile forms of a natural disaster, as they can be caused by a rockslide, underwater earthquake, certain volcanic eruptions, or a high velocity impact of a sizeable object within a body of water (1). The media and scientific research has done a sufficient job in covering real world tsunamis and relief efforts, which in turn has help trigger natural human curiosity regarding the subject. The film industry has capitalized off of this, and has made a numerous amount of movies either based on, or featuring these devastating waves. As depicted through real events and in the movies, tsunamis generally behave in the same manner, yet each one has a different speed and height due to various factors. Furthermore, every location of possible impact treats the way they prepare and react to a disaster differently. Through the examination of the real life Boxing Day Tsunami, and the fictional tsunami in Roar Uthaug s The Wave, these claims can be further expanded upon and reinforced. December 26, 2004 is a date that will live in infamy, and has personal value for millions of people around the world. • 36. Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen s A Doll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comprehensive Assessment Of Wetlands Society views about wetlands have changed considerably since the continent was settled by the colonists, and especially since the mid 20th century when interest in wetland preservation and protection for the functions and values they serve emerged (Dahl Allord, 1996). In the 1700 s, there were approximately 90 million hectares of wetlands in what is now the conterminous forty eight states, with a significant proportion of those associated with the nation s river systems (Dahl, Johnson, Frayer, 1991). • 38. I Visited The David Owsley Art Museum Have you ever had a painting that really spoke to you? When I visited the David Owsley Art Museum there was one painting in particular that stuck out to me, it was: Right Bird Left by Lee Krasner. This painting made me feel happy and gave me a lot of energy during the time I was at the museum. The reason I was happy and energized was because the painting conveyed extremely bright colors. I am a fan of these colors, which gave me a sense of joy and the energy. It caught the attention of my eye by using several different visual elements to depict an abstract representation art piece. Along with that, it used the principles of design to help the visual elements play out and work in the painting, allowing those elements to be depicted to my human eye correctly. This piece resembled bird feathers, but the artist used many different techniques to provide a bigger underlying meaning that was hiding behind such a complex painting. This piece was one of the first to the start off my learning abilities of how to understand and appreciate artwork for what it is truly worth. The painting called Right Bird Left, made me feel extremely happy. The bright colors are what drew me over to start looking at the painting. I never would have approached this picture if it were not for its size and the effective use of bright colors. • 41. Analysis Of The Yoknapatawpha River In As I Lay Dying Spring; hurricane. Much as these are both related to water, they differ greatly in their impact on societies while one brings hope and life to weary travelers, the other brings struggle accompanied by death. Throughout most of literary history, writers have explored this idea of poly indicative identity, whether that be with the vast depths of water or some other symbol, and William Faulkner s novel As I Lay Dying is no exception to this idea. From rivers to the fish that inhabit them, As I Lay Dying is composed with a symphony of different symbols, however, one of the more persistent ones is that of the river. By incorporating certain aspects of the Yoknapatawpha River, Faulkner is able to allow the work to flow more smoothly, more easily incorporate ideas about the themes of death and barriers, as well as enhance the characterization of certain figures. A symbol is, at its base, a literary object, an object that besides holding a symbolic meaning also holds a literal one. Although the symbolic is generally focused upon in class, the literal must not be forgotten, for it can often be just as important the primary focus for literal objects is in terms of plot development and flow. In the novel As I Lay Dying, the Yoknapatawpha River is used to provide a physical barrier for the Bundren family. As the Bundrens, and some of their neighbors, are traveling to bury Addie, they are delayed by rainfall that has made the river ... too high to get across (111). By including ... • 42. Realist Fiction As Realistic Fiction Genre Why: The novel is classified as Realistic Fiction because the events of the novel could take place in real life. Text Evidence: On page 5, the author provides a detailed, realistic setting told by the protagonist s point of view That summer, let s see, I m still living under the basement, my own private down under, in the little room Grim built for me there. Glued up this cheap paneling, right? It sort of buckles away from the concrete cellar walls, a regular ripple effect, but do I complain about the crummy paneling, or the rug that smells like old tide? I do not. (Philbrick, 5) The readers can also infer about the character through their dialect, and in this case, the protagonist seems to be observant of their surroundings and is mostly likely still in school. In a family conflict on page 89, it shows conflict seen through the protagonist s eyes. ....this shouting starts upstairs, Understand, Grim never yells at Gram, not that I can ever remember, and Gram, well, the worst thing she ever does is cry when she s mad. But somebody else sure is yelling up there, and so I sneak up the stairs and I don t even have to put my ear to the door, that s how loud it is. • 43. The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population Discussion: The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the bark as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean moisture content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.96136). The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a percentage reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24% from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine trees, also found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree height increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a closer proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil is relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more moisture contact. Claire Shi (2016), conducted a similar research on trees at a different area at the Victoria Esplanade. The results from her research show that the moisture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
