Domestic Violence, Maternal Depression, And Home Environment
As seen in the previous studies, children living in domestic violent homes not only have to face the
direct violence that is happening at the moment, but also have to face the indirect change that is
brought after the violence has occurred. Using a sample of 100 women and their children ages 3 5, the
study conducted by Huth Bocks, Levendosky, and Semel (2001) examined maternal psychological
functioning and its impact of the quality of the home environment in a domestic violent household.
After observing these indirect variables, assessments were made to determine if domestic violence had
indirect affects on children s intellectual functioning (Huth Bocks, Levendosky, Semel, 2001). The
three independent variables that were used in this study to determine the outcome (intellectual
functioning) were: domestic violence, maternal depression, and home environment (Huth Bocks, et
al., 2001). The Severity of Violence Against Women Scales measured domestic violence from 0 to 3
(never, once, a few times, many times). The Beck Depression Inventory was used to measure the
severity of maternal depression that women experienced due to the domestic violence. The Home
Observation for Measurement of the Environment was used to measure the quality of the home
environment. Finally, the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revised (PPVT R) was used to measure
children s receptive vocabulary along with the Block Design subtest of the Wechsler Preschool and

The Mortality Of Alzheimer s Disease
When you look around you see healthy people and sick people. Sometimes the sick go unnoticed
because their illness is not apparent to the naked eye. Alzheimer s disease is one of many diseases that
early on does not show any physical symptoms. On the other hand, Alzheimer s disease will end in
death. Below will define morbidity and mortality, describe Alzheimer s disease, and present the rates
of morbidity and mortality as they relate to Alzheimer s disease.
When someone is diagnosed with a disease, they usually first want to know what it is. The next things
that are usually looked at are morbidity and mortality. Most people who look at the numbers related to
these words do not understand what they mean. Morbidity is the presence of a disease. Morbidity rate
is the number given to a disease showing the percentage at which it affects a population. On the other
hand, mortality is related to death. The mortality rate, or death rate, shows the percentage of a
population that has died as a result of a particular disease. The typical person does not research
morbidity and mortality rates by those names, however they are looking for the number of people
diagnosed and the number of people who die from the disease.
Alzheimer s is a disease of the nervous system and is one of the most common forms of dementia. It is
characterized by memory loss and the loss of other intellectual abilities. These losses hinder one s
normal ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) such as

Phycologist Theories Compare And Contrast
In this essay will I have a look at two Phycologist´s theories and go through their developmental
stages to search for similarities and differences. I also want to reflect on how these theories could be
interpreting a person close to me in the development through stages of life.
Both my daughters have been breast feed almost up two years of age and even though we had some
problems with sleeping for the older one, she just did not want to sleep, we would consider her start of
her life a harmonized and fairly normal upbringing. She is now almost 17 years old and I thought it
would be a good way to compare real life of hers to what would have become of her development if
some of the important needs that the theories are urging for would not have ... Show more content on

According to Freud this is the final stage and it continues throughout a person s life. He calls it the
Genital Stage. During this stage he believes that a person seeks balance between their biological
instincts and sense of morality. In other words, Freud believes that a person learns to channel their
biological instincts into socially acceptable displays of love and career goals. Erikson called this stage

Pros And Cons Of Eias For Landfills
Alternatives: As previously mentioned, Gupta et al. believe current methods of conducting EIAs are
ineffective. Therefore, they propose an unconventional method for conducting EIAs for landfill siting:
a multivariable calculation of implicated factors using a fuzzy relation, or fuzzy clustering. This
involves the attribution of a weight to each qualitative factor, in order to accurately assess the
environmental impacts of landfills. This method distinguishes itself from the others because it
accounts for the uncertainty caused by the expert s subjectivity, and for the lifetime of the landfill. The
result of this method is a fuzzy relation between frequency of occurrence and the impact on
environment [sic] considering the adverse consequence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is room for a lot of improvement in Quebec s waste management: currently, about half of
household waste is eliminated (MDDELCC, 10) which is not economically viable. To reach its
sustainability goal, the province drafted the Quebec policy for waste management 2011 2015. By the
end date, it aims to reduce household waste to 700kg/person and to increase the diversion rate of
paper, plastic, glass and metal scraps to 70%, and of organic waste to 60% (MDDELCC, 11). An
additional benefit of these propositions is the creation of hundreds of jobs (MDDELCC, 2011). The
plan, albeit optimistic, is still unclear about how to effectively implement waste recovery. In 2012, 6
years after the start of the City of Montreal s composting initiative, only 12% of organic waste was
being recovered (Bruemmer, 2014). Montreal plans on building two biomethanization plants (where
compost is converted into biogas), along with two composting facilities (Bruemmer, 2014). Four
proposed sites have been rejected due to public opposition while an existing one closed this summer.
Situated in Montreal s Southwest borough, the latter estimates that its yearly methane offset equals
800 000m3, which represents about 35 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is worth nearly 500 000$ in

Voice in Writing Essay
Voice in Writing
There are many different forms and styles used in writing. Writing is a form of communication that is
used to document and express ideas people have. Through the years as people grow and learn knew
ways of writing, writing awareness of a person will evolve into a much higher level of thinking. From
the first term paper a person writes in high school to the papers they hand in at the college level, the
writing will have matured over the years. The authors of writing develop new and more sophisticated
ways in expressing themselves through the words they use in writing. Throughout history writers have
found ways in which they can achieve the goals of gaining the readers attention and keep them

If writers choose to use voice in their writing, they must consider which voice will represent their
writing the best. One of the first things that can come to mind in choosing a voice is the gender of the
voice that is going to be used. Gender becomes an important decision, because a male or female voice
may represent certain things better then the other gender. Male voices generally have a more
dominant, deep, loud sounding voice. Compared to a female voice which generally has a kind, softer
sounding voice. This may be sexist, but most people put a stereotype on different voices.
As people read things they have formed a stereotype on what gender the voice is coming from. For
example if a male reads a magazine article from a hunting magazine, they are going to think that a
male wrote it without even looking at who actually wrote the article. This is the same for females
reading a magazine about wearing make up, they have a stereotype of who writes these articles. Most
males and females are set in their ways, they have set stereotypes that grows with them as they grow
up. The gender of the voice in writing plays an important role of what stereotype the reader is going to
perceive.
People have a general stereotype of voice when it comes to gender. As people read they may try to
make an image of who is actually saying what they are reading, or create images of what they are

The Importance Of Freedom In America
Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America.
Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white
people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true
feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order
#15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set
aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina,
245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white
owners just abandoned the land. The Port Royal Experiment was an effort by northern white
missionaries, educators, and businessmen in the Sea Islands near Beaufort, South Carolina, to
transform former slaves into educated, reliable and industrious wage earners. Congress established the
Bureau of Refugees, Freedman, and Abandoned Lands in February 1865 to assist black and white
Southerners left destitute by the Civil War. The South Homestead Act was passed by Congress in
1866, this set aside over three million acres of land for former slaves and loyal white Southerners to
farm following the Civil War. In 1866 bureau officials tried to force freedmen to sign labor contracts
with white landowners. Black men who refused to sign could be arrested. The most important

A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer
The book A Child Called It is an emotional roller coaster type of book and stomach twisting subjects
appear throughout the chapters. It is an amazing book to read I would recommend it for teens and
young adults that have good emotional stability, because it is very intense but yet eye opening. It
shows you that there is always some else that is worse off then you are. The story takes place in Daly
City, California in 1973. Throughout story the setting switches up from the mother s house and school.
Dave Pelzer didn t really get to do anything so it was pretty plain. The protagonist is Dave Pelzer who
is a young boy that is getting abused and beaten physically and mentally by his mother daily which is
the antagonist Catherine Pelzer. He refers to as the mother or another not so nice name. Stephen Pelzer
is Dave s father who feels bad and tries to help him in the beginning, but it comes to a point where he
gives up, because he can t do anything. Throughout the story his four brothers appear

Epilepsy Drug Therapies
Introduction:
This paper will focus on the history of epilepsy, the causes of the disease specifically its genetic link
and the evolution of drug therapies. My interest in this topic stems from working with people with
developmental disabilities in a group home setting, many of whom suffer from seizure disorders. I
understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have the condition
which why it s important to educate people about it.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that more
than 3 million people have active epilepsy, with 200,000 new cases diagnosed each year (2014, p.
1419). This is why it is an important disease to understand. According to Lewis et ... Show more

This period was not without supernatural beliefs, so Epilepsy existed between these two worlds.
However, researchers proved that theories of the effect of Epilepsy on brain function were more than
just superstitious beliefs. Several different types of seizures were seen in this period. English
Neurologist John Hughlings Jackson best known for his research in Epilepsy, discovered a correlation
of these focal motor seizure onsets and their associated brain lesions in laying the foundation of
modern epileptology. (392). in 1772, Swiss Neurologist Samuel August Tissot gave the first detailed
definition of absence seizures which were mainly seen in children. Patients with chronic epilepsy were
taken to clinics or asylums for observation which brought awareness to the variety of seizures and by
the second half of the 19th century, there were a number of dedicated facilities built to care for people
with Epilepsy. In these facilities, terms such as absence, petit mal and grand mal were introduced
which are still used to date. (392). It was also in this time period that the first treatment, bromide, was

directors or a governmental agency. b) What are the risks of continuing to work with the company?

you think situations like this (i.e., aggressive accounting or even financial statement fraud) are
common practice? Unfortunately, I do believe that aggressive accounting and financial statement fraud
are a common practice. I don t think it s to far fetch to believe that companies use projections and
other types of false data to fool banks especially when they have huge incentives to do so. b) What
pressures or factors will executives use to encourage accounting managers and staff to go along? More
than likely, executives will use the threat of firing the accounting managers and staff as a way to get

remembering their ethical and legal duties expressed by various accounting ethical standards ,
regulations and laws. 5) Describe example of incentive, opportunity, and attitude conditions that were

Myth Of Roman Mythology
In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger
by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture,
one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with
humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would
be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his
wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let
them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing
stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been fishing in a lagoon
of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the man killed the crocodile.
The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the water with her tail creating a
flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who had climbed up a palm tree. After
the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut off a piece of his flesh, planted it in
the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the woman and begun to repopulate the world.
The two flood myths mentioned above have a few similarities. The first is that the floods had come
from the anger of powerful beings. The first story mentions that the God Jupiter had been angry

Analysis Of The Story Araby
In the short story Araby, we are shown a young boy s first encounter with love and what he will do for
this girl. To help represent the protagonist s emotions and the way he views the world around him,
Joyce uses color. The use and absence of color in the story helps the reader identify what the boy finds
important in his life. This is done by using dark and sombre as adjectives and also not using color.
Except, when Mangan s sister (protagonist s crush) is being described in the story. This when Joyce
decides to use abundance of color to help create a contrast between the girl and the rest of the world.
The author throughout the story persists on painting the setting of the story to be dark or even

This is a sharp contrast to when we meet his crush.
The first time we meet the protagonist s crush (Mangan s sister) the boys are playing outside and she

rest of his world. her figure defined by the light from the half opened door... Her dress swung as she
moved her body and the soft rope of her hair tossed from side to side. (1224) From the very first time
we get a description of her. There is light shining upon, thus showing us the she stands out in the
protagonist s world.
The story continues to build on this use of light and color when describing Mangan s sister. The next
time this is seen in the text is when the protagonist is following Mangan s sister to school. Joyce again
uses color as an adjective. I kept her brown figure always in my eye (1224) This use of color again
sticks out, because the only time color is used is when she is being described in the story. Joyce does
this to show the reader how she sticks out in the protagonist s world. This motif is continued in the
story.
The next time the protagonist encounters Mangan s sister, is the first time the two characters have an
actual conversation. In the conversation they discuss if there going the Araby and tell

Death as Analyzed through Socrates and Hamlet
Death, the one appointment we all must keep, and for which no time is set (Charlie Chan). Although
many believe it to be ominous, death, signifies an end to this earthly and material life; the life of
which we are sure of. Plato s Phaedo and Shakespeare s play Hamlet offer different perspectives on
the life we are unsure of, namely death or the afterlife. Through the characters of Socrates and Hamlet,
readers are offered two contrasting outlooks on death. On one side, Hamlet is haunted by the fear of
the unknown, and leads his morality astray. Inversely, Socrates portrays a man who is relieved by the
prospect of death. Both Hamlet and Socrates demonstrate inherent differences in their internal
characteristics, but most notable difference is the characters contrasting outlooks on the meaning of
life and death. Socrates, considered the leader of philosophy, WANTS to die, because only in the
afterlife will he be able to see the truth without the distractions of his body. Hamlet, on the other hand,
fears what will happen in the afterlife. He would like to escape his life, which at the moment is
nothing short of depressing, but he worries that the afterlife might prove to be a bad dream, even
worse than his life at this moment.
In Phaedo, Socrates uses what he believes to be philosophical truths in order to convince his twice
seven that the soul is eternal, and the body corrupts it. Therefore Socrates goes on to comment that
any true philosopher would gladly face death

Wastewater In Canada
Montreal plans to shut down a pipe, which feeds water from the sewers into a treatment plant.
Therefore the city s strategy is to dump the eight billion liters of raw sewage into the St Lawrence
River [1]. The procedure is going against the fisheries act, it will have negative consequences for
communities downstream, and it will also damage the river s ecosystem. In brief that scheme has
several negative impacts on the river s ecosystem and the city should invest in alternative procedures.

Dr. Grant Brow who is a Concordia University biologist that specializes in aquatic behavioral and
chemical ecology, claims, The untreated effluent could cause harm to a number of aquatic species [2].
The fish rely on chemical cues to help it survive, such as finding food, shelter, detecting and avoiding
predators. On the other hand, the city s spokesman Philippe Sabourin, says that the contamination is
not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000
cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the wastewater, expected to be 13 cubic meters a
second [2]. However, it would be devastating if the city proceeds with their plan since the chemical
and bacteriological mixture of wastewater must be observed at all times to ensure public health. In
wastewater there are oxygen consuming materials, which needs to be minimized to protect from low
dissolved oxygen conditions since it can be harmful to aquatic species [4]. Many nutrients found in
wastewater, such as nitrogen and phosphorus must be removed to prevent high level of nutrients,
which can cause the ecosystem to have hypoxia and the increase of pollutants in the waterways [4].

The Effects Of Television On Children s Decision Of...
What would you do if you were to find out, that just by watching an advertisement on television, it can
lead you to drug problems, health issues, or even death? With this, alcohol distributors poison the
mind of the young and make them believe that drinking can really bring all the pleasures portrayed in
the advertisements, like the beach parties, celebrations, and fun at sporting events Alcohol, that may
be consumed, has been a very important aspect of the world. Many people enjoy being able to have
the feeling you receive when they do drink any form of alcohol. Alcohol advertising influences not
only adults but teens and children who are too young to purchase it. Parents have a large impact on
children s decision to drink, but marketing also has a greater impact on the children s decision of
underage drinking. Not only is the consumption bad for children, but it is also unhealthy for adults.
Alcohol advertisements are advertising a person to kill themselves, because the consumption of

Reading Volume Is Central Of The World
According to Allington (2014), though reading volume is central to the development of reading
proficiencies, typical commercial core reading programs tend to provide material to engage students in
only 15 minutes of reading each day. With the remaining 75 minutes allocated to completing
workbook pages and answering lower level comprehension questions, many students receive very
little time to engage in reading. Cunningham (2005) reminds us that as early as 1977, Richard
Allington pleaded, If they don t read much, how they ever gonna get good (p.1). Reading volume is
defined as the time students spend reading in addition to the number of words they consume as they
read (Allington, 2012). This combination impacts all aspects of students cognitive abilities, ranging
from vocabulary development as well as knowledge of the world (Cunningham Zibulsky, 2013). In
one of the most extensive studies of independent reading, Anderson, Wilson, and Fielding (1988)
connected reading growth to the time students spent reading outside of school. They found that
independent time spent reading was the best predictor of reading achievement. In this study, the
researchers determined that fifth grade students that read forty minutes per day scored in the 90th
percentile on standardized tests. Simply put, those who read more than an hour outside of school
outperform their lower achieving peers. Not only has independent reading been found to have

Alice in Wonderland Dream Analysis
Dream Analysis of Alice in Wonderland
Who s who and what s real; are we who we claim we are, and is reality really real or is everything just
a fragment of what we think is the universe?
A dream sequence is a technical term used mostly in film and television to set apart a brief interlude
from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to incorporate into his
story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion, was not his
psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by writing these stories
was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship between he and Liddell was not
allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician
existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little girls,

can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not actually strange at all.

idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person wakes up, the person who is being
dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our existence as real or just a fragment of
someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as the actual reality of whoever is imagining
us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more complex essence of existence: of two possibly
imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it
queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers,
and possibly himself, the meaning of life and the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story
with insane poems, in addition to the wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney,
turns out to be quite an amazing text for future existentialists and

My Worst New Years In My Life
Worst New Years in My Life
The carpeted floor was covered with dust, while I washing my hands. As I walk outside I could see
world renowned Sydney s, New Year s fireworks shoot across the sky. The vibrant colors and the
designs were beautiful. I could hear the sharp sounds of people across Sydney, Australia celebrating
New Years. I could hear the laughter all throughout the house. I can hear the beautiful music ringing in
my ears. Everyone was enjoying the beautiful party. The carpeted floor gave me a weird feeling. There
were dust particles scattered throughout the floor.
Suddenly, my nose starts to itch, my ears hear a ringing sound like no other. I walked down the hall of
my aunt s friends house seeing if it really actually hurt. Oh. It must be nothing. I thought. I walked up
and down watching the tulips, roses, and orchids everywhere. Saahil. You are crying. My sister said.
What? It must be just something in my eye. I called. My eyes start to hurt my eyes start burn. I go to
the bathroom and put water in my eye. I look in the mirror and I see myself with two almost
completely red eyes. I try to open my eyes and do not see anything. I try to let out a scream, but
cannot. The stinging was jack knifing me in my brain. The tears roll down my cheek. I blindly walk
toward my mom. I try to open my eyes and it automatically closes.
It hurts Mom! It hurts! I cried. I feel a sudden urge to lie down.
Saahil, what is wrong? What happened? My mom worried. I tell her

Malnutrition, Its Impacts And Consequences Essay
Discuss and define malnutrition, its impacts and consequences in both adult and paediatric patients,
reflecting on your experiences from classroom discussions, A placement and the key evidence base.
Include discussions of screening and use of the nutrition support algorithm and describe and discuss
the tools used in settings to enable effective nutrition support.
Malnutrition is the imbalance of body nutrients, energy and protein, which cause negative impacts on
the body and its functions. Imbalances can mean levels exceed bodily requirements (overnutrition),
leading to conditions like obesity and vitamin overdose effects. Malnutrition also refers to insufficient
intake (undernutrition), which can cause conditions such as anaemia.
From a clinical perspective, malnutrition is a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5kg/m2,
unintentional weight loss greater than 10% within the last 3 6 months, a BMI of less than 20kg/m2 and
unintentional weight loss greater than 5% within the last 3 6 months (Malnutrition Task Force, 2013,
p.7).
One suggested cause of malnutrition is financial limitations, as not all families can afford nutritionally
rich, balanced diets. The National Children s Home (NCH) Poverty and Nutrition Survey 1991 found
that two thirds of children and more than ½ of the parents (of families attending NCH Family Centres)
were eating nutritionally inadequate diets (Leather, 1996, p.20). From A Placement observation of a
paediatric outpatient clinic, it is evident that

Gender Representation Of Female Gender Roles Affect...
Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage
the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact,
Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women.
Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical gender roles affect society through social
oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible to
have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that which is more
significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity is emphasized and
its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings the song I ll Make a Man
out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical representation of masculinity is
obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? further points to the notion
that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s
main goal is to make a man out of each member in the army. The assertion is that femininity is not
acceptable; the womanly recruits have been transformed into real men in order to competently fight
the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save
the day (2004). Although the film appears to be supporting feminist ideals as

Cyber Defense And Security Issues
Understanding cyber defense and security issues such as cyber crime and cyber attacks ensure
efficient functioning of information systems. Cyber attacks are real, unexpected and increasing in
numbers according to Naumovski and Kenkov (2014) cyber defense is emerging as a high priority
with the increased use of information technology. Naumovski et al. (2014) noted that understanding
cyber defense and security issues would ensure efficient operation of information systems. Naumovski
et al. (2014) explained the scope of cyber defense and the devastating effect and consequences of
cyber attacks.
Governments of the world have begun to slowly develop some procedures and actions to protect cyber
space, and because of the reliance of our societies on smart devices, this has resulted in more security
issues then cyber security practitioners can handle. The use of information technology by many
participants defines cyber space as the new domain of security and a critical area of national security.
Securing the society against cyber attacks has become one of the highest priorities from both the
internal and external threat in cyber space (Naumovski et al., 2014).
As stated by Rid and Buchanan (2015) Cyber attacks are not created equal every individual is different
and the damage it causes is one of the most important distinguishing features of any network breach.

Persuasive Essay About Chocolate
There is no doubt that chocolate has become one of the most favorite food types and flavors in the
world. Chocolates come in different shapes and they are popular for different holidays, such as
chocolate bunnies and eggs on Easter, chocolate coins on Hanukkah, Santa Claus and other holiday
symbols on Christmas, and hearts on Valentine s Day. In this essay, I will explain how you can make
your own chocolate Easter eggs in your home. Equipment and preparation part is the most crucial part.
Go to craft store and pick up your favorite Easter egg molds (molds are usually made from plastic or
silicone, not expensive), then follow these steps to make a delicious and decorative chocolate Easter
eggs.
In your first step, you should melt your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, pour the melted chocolate into a mold and work quickly. Use a teaspoon to spread your
chocolate both sides of the mold.
After that, you should close the mold so the edges join, you can use clips. Shake to coat on both sides,
then turn it over and put aside until set. By doing this, chocolate setting only on one of the sides can be
prevented. Put your molds in fridge until they harden enough, it will be around 5 10 mins. After that,
you can remove the eggs from the mold easily. Gently press the top and bottom of the mold to release
the egg. Make sure the press each side one at a time.
Now your chocolate eggs are ready to eat, but we have one more step to complete this process. This is
the funniest part of making Easter chocolate eggs: time to use your imagination. However, you need to
follow some steps in this part also.
To decorate the eggs, place the egg in a glass or small cup and use as a stand. You can label the eggs
with the process called piping. To pipe the eggs, fold a permanent paper in the shape of a cone, and fill
the inside with melted white chocolate (or any other color you wish). Write your custom or desired
messages, or paint your favorite shapes onto the eggs. You can also add white chocolate into the mold
before any of the steps above, to give the eggs zebra like patterns for additional decoration.
If you need more creative and sweet ideas, you can watch some videos on YouTube.

Informative Speech On Pancreatic Cancer
No one can catch cancer from another person. While it can seldom be explained why one person gets
any type of cancer and another doesn t, it is very clear that the disease is not contagious.
Although research scientists do not know the exact causes of cancer of the pancreas, they are always
learning some things that can increase a person s chance of getting this disease. Smoking of any kind
is a major risk factor and research shows that cigarette smokers tend to develop cancer of the pancreas
two to three times more often than nonsmokers. So by quitting smoking, you will reduce the risk of
pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, as well as a number of other diseases.

In the biopsy, the doctor will remove a piece of tissue from the pancreas. A pathologist then examines
the tissue sample under a microscope to check for cancer cells.
Tissue samples that are obtained with one kind of biopsy may not give a clear diagnosis, and the
biopsy may need to be repeated using a different method.
One of the ways to obtain tissue is by using a long needle that is passed through the skin and into the
pancreas, hence the name needle biopsy. Doctors will use either x rays or ultrasound to properly guide
the placement of the needle to obtain the sample.
A brush biopsy is performed during the ERCP. The doctor will insert a very small brush through the
endoscope into the bile duct and rub off cells to examine under a microscope. Sometimes, when a
biopsy does not provide an accurate indication, a surgeon will perform an operation called a
laparotomy. During this operation, the doctor will look at the organs in the abdomen and can remove
tissue samples, if needed from any organ. This surgical procedure helps the doctor determine the stage
or extent of the disease. This will help the doctor plan the best approach for

Car And Motorcycle Shows That Relate To College

the car shows and motorcycles meets. The car and motorcycles shows can relate to college many ways
and with the most meaningful part. I would have to say the car and motorcycle shows/meets because
they can relate to college in many ways. One way is because some colleges sometimes have car shows
on campus grounds and lots of people go to them just like many people go to college, it is also on
college grounds. The second thing is that car shows and bike meets is time to get away from the home
work. To also have fun with your friends and to see cool cars and bikes. That is just like college

College Athletes Should Not Be Banned
Every year NCAA brings in approximately $6 billion from highly anticipated sports events, such as
this month s NCAA tournament March Madness , for example.1 While brackets will be broken, nets
will be slashed, and the championship team will be crowned, ultimately the real winner from college
events like these is the NCAA itself. While the relentless student athletes train rigorously day and
night to represent their schools, the athletes who participate do not see a single penny, even though
they are the ones who ...risk career ending injuries every time they onto the court, field, or rink. The
NCAA forces all amateur college athletes to sign a contract, forbidding monetary compensation for
their efforts and restricting them from any sponsorship deals with payouts. This has posed a dilemma
since the early 1900s, because some of the best collegiate athletes have been dirt poor, while the
NCAA program has continued to make millions off of the names of athletes who cannot afford to feed
their own families. As a solution, all NCAA athletes deserve to be paid. In the event that there were
only one reason that college athletes ought to be paid, it is that both the NCAA and the college itself
utilizes players name and status for its own financial benefit. Whether it is selling players jerseys or
signing autographs, the NCAA is successfully profiting off of the player whose number is on the shirt,
without giving any cut to the player himself. An eleven billion dollar industry

The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop
The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop is a very colorful poem filled with lots of different outcomes than our
usual expectations. The poem is very symbolic through its use color and the fish it describes. The
poem is also written in free verse, which you could relate to the nature of the fish. It is set on a boat in
the middle of the ocean, with the ocean symbolizing chaos, the nature of the poem. The fish causes
some conflict within this poem. First, the fish changes the speaker s expectation of how events will
occur. We can infer that the speaker did not find catching the fish as fulfilling as she thought she
would have. Based on the long debating and dangling of the fish, it is obvious that the speaker feels at

Role Of The Executive Officer Of The Chief Officer
The role of business in society is multifaceted in that there is an obligation to its shareholders, its
clients and its employees. In the instance of Margin Call by J.C Chandor, a wide range of justifications
revealed by the upper management level of an investment firm evinces the core values of the firm.
Once it is revealed that there is a high probability of the firm being the devalued beyond market
capitalization, the firm and its division heads attempt to find a solution to the imminent crisis.
Although there is some dissent from Sam Rogers, Head of Sales and Trading, CEO Tuld promptly
decides to liquidate the firm s toxic assets onto the market. However, there is much internal tension
between the chief officers in that they individually represent different predicaments. In the end,
Margin Call illustrates conviction that the role of business is to engender a certain type of lifestyle for
the society through the executives justifications and interactions with others.
In the first scene of Margin Call, there is a massive unannounced layoff for about 80% of the trading
floor in the investment firm. Though Eric Dale has worked in risk management for many years, the
firm s decline in profits requires that it downsize in order to survive. Will, Head of Trading, tells the
risk analysts to carry on with their jobs despite having most of their co workers laid off, but he also
jadedly asks if it s the first layoff the analysts have seen. Will is nonchalant about the layoff as

Pros And Cons Of Physician-Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide is when a doctor/ physician gives the patient a prescription and the
knowledge of how to take said prescription that would end the patient s life. Most people who ask for
the prescription never use it, they just use it for comfort. (Dick 194. There are really only two main
arguments for this topic. Those two arguments are: It s my life i can do what i want and It s against my
morals, or it undermines the hippocratic principles of medicine. Physician assisted suicide should be
legal everywhere, and everyone should be able to have the option to use it. People say that PAS is
against the sanctity of life. They say that it is going out against their morals and it contradicts their
beliefs. Some also say that it is like a passive VS. active distinction. Saying that there is a difference
between passively letting someone die and actively killing them. Other people say that it could be
abuse as well. There is also a gap in the guidelines of what you have to do and have to be able to get
the prescription. They say you have to be at least 18, and you have to be able to give verbal requests,
and you also have to be able to give yourself the drug. What about kids that have a terminal illness and
there is no cure and they have to suffer every single day, they are in so much pain everyday even with

Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic Essay
Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic
The claim that Odour of Chrysanthemums is a well crafted story is hardly brave or risky, for many
would agree. For instance, the man who in a sense discovered Lawrence, English Review editor F. M.
Ford, said this about Odour of Chrysanthemums :
The very title makes an impact on the mind. You get at once the knowledge that this is not, whatever
else it may turn out, either a frivolous or even a gay springtime story. Chrysanthemums are not only
flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene
of his story exactly. He has an authoritative mind. (Ford 257)

he was not; she had felt familiar with him. Whereas he was apart all the while, living as she never

This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a
stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out
false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between
husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads
to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the
unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other
stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour
of Chrysanthemums is successful.
Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and
its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its
importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead

Public Law And Private Law
INTRODUCTION The subject of law encompasses a wide area and covers a variety of issues and
agenda. For the convenience of readers and learners of this subject, it is classified into various
categories. Civil Law and Criminal Law Public Law and Private Law Substantive Law and Procedural
Law Municipal Law and International Law The classification between Public Law and Private Law is
one of the most important classifications of law. Public Law in general terms has been defined as the
law of relations between the individual and state . Holland lays down the simplest test to determine
whether the case falls in public law or private law If one of the parties is state, the case falls in the
dimension of public law . However, with passing times and more complex issues arising, the scope of
public law is going much beyond the normal definition of state as one of the parties . The scope of
public law now also involves various other matters such as business regulation. Also, the scope of
public law varies from state to state and system to system. While a socialist economy will see private
law having a much stronger authority, this will not be the case in a capitalist or a mixed economy
state. Major components of Public Law are Constitutional Law Administrative Law Criminal Law
Private Law, on the other hand, deals with disputes between parties other than the State. The rights

The Vanished Settlements Summary
In chapter 5, The Vanished Settlements , John Viele reveals information about the 21 year span of life
on the Keys. The Civil War, living conditions, mosquitoes, fresh water, and isolation are some of the
main hardships that many of the settlers had to experience, but only a few could endure the setbacks
and live prosperous lives, as well as their families. Henry Geiger, Temple Pent, and Happy Jack were
the most prosperous men during the hard times of the Key West, and through others around them, their
stories can now live on. Viele tells us only a few families remained living in the Keys after the Indian
raids and the Second Seminole War. About 20 homes that were documented on the 1850 census, which

made his living through the hauling and selling of wood, tanning deer, and growing vegetables and
fruits, Viele says. Henry had managed the mosquitoes and lived a very successful life. Captain Temple
Pent, was self educated, a skilled seaman, and pilot. Viele informs us, Pent was at sea at an early age
of his life. At the age 16 he began to tend to a piece of land, better known today as Coconut Grove.
After Florida was bought by the US, he became a citizen and had a family. Because of his reputation
at sea, Commodore Porter offered Pent to serve as a squadron official. Pent moved his family to Key
Vacas when the Seminole became violent, and eventually fled to Key West. Records show that Pent
was appointed Inspector of Elections in 1836 and held leadership in a 100 population community. In
1860s, he was the Florida lighthouse keeper and lived there till his death in 1868. Viele shows that
Pent had a lot of political success.
Happy Jack had a plantation that grew various fruits and excellent sweet potatoes , as a 1856 surveyor

The Epidemic Of Disease On The Continent Of Africa
The topic of disease on the continent of Africa has been discussed in increasing frequency over the
past three decades. Ideas regarding disease tend to center around the idea that disease can be
eliminated by a one step cure. This viewpoint is flawed because it excludes other factors influencing
disease. In this paper, I will argue that there are many factors that influence the presence of disease on
a continent. More specifically, I will be focusing on Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) in the
countries of Kenya, Uganda, and the Congo. To do this, I will explore publications focused on how the
history of disease, colonialism, the environment, social environment, and influence of organizations
from countries outside the continent have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symptoms of HAT in the beginning tend to be milder, consisting of nausea and fever. The disease
is commonly referred to as sleeping sickness . It obtained this name from people observing individuals
in a certain stage of the disease. There are two main stages of HAT caused by two different geniuses of
tsetse flies. These two stages both have hemolymphatic and acute disease stages. However, one of the
two forms an acute stage that is drastically more severe than the other. In this drastically different
acute stage, the infected individual becomes almost zombie like and can experience psychotic
episodes that occasionally involve violence. These episodes of an individual experiencing the acute
stage gave the disease the nickname of sleeping sickness . Some cultures have deemed the disease as a
result of demonic spirits and thus those infected can often be ignored because people are afraid of
interacting with a bad spirit.
Human African Trypanosomiasis was first discovered on the continent of Africa in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The initial outbreak of HAT killed approximately half of a million people in the
countries of Congo, Uganda, and Kenya. Shortly after this initial outbreak, a treatment for HAT was
developed. The drug was penned Suramin and is still used for treatment of the disease today. Shortly

wherein you are fighting an insurgency. Various studies put the number of Iraqi casualties between
150,000 to 1,000,000 (Note that these casualties include both combatants and non combatants). In
addition to this the amount of destruction that resulted in many cities as a result of bombing had
lasting effects. For American forces everything was much more diligently monitored. A total of 4,491
U.S. service members were killed in Iraq between 2003 and 2014. The war cost the U.S.

Are There Too Many Pressures And Expectations On Teens...
Mrs. Roczniak ENG 4C Monday, December 4, 2017 Option #2 Are there too many pressures and
expectations on teens today to conform and act a certain way? Teens are under more stress and have
higher expectations than ever before. It s a well known fact that being a teen is hard and accompanies
its own arrangement of troubles. Teens are expected to do extremely well in school and to have an
idea on what they want to do after school. Teens want to feel like they are welcomed and wanted from
their peers and they will do anything to fit in. Teenagers are also expected to teach themselves in
school and in life. Teens have more stress and expectations on them than every before. Teenagers are
required at an early stage to do everything right and to have their lives arranged out, teens are
expected to know what they want to do after school where they want to work. For an example, in the
breakfast club, Brian is pressured to have the best grades and to already have his life together. When
he was on his way into detention his mother said, well mister you figure out a way to study (Hughes,
1985) even though he couldn t. At school there is a scope of scholastic weights teens feel, from
requirement for flawless grades. Teens must do well since it is expected that all teens must go to the
best school in the event that they need to succeed and that puts on a huge amount of weight on

  • 2. Domestic Violence, Maternal Depression, And Home Environment As seen in the previous studies, children living in domestic violent homes not only have to face the direct violence that is happening at the moment, but also have to face the indirect change that is brought after the violence has occurred. Using a sample of 100 women and their children ages 3 5, the study conducted by Huth Bocks, Levendosky, and Semel (2001) examined maternal psychological functioning and its impact of the quality of the home environment in a domestic violent household. After observing these indirect variables, assessments were made to determine if domestic violence had indirect affects on children s intellectual functioning (Huth Bocks, Levendosky, Semel, 2001). The three independent variables that were used in this study to determine the outcome (intellectual functioning) were: domestic violence, maternal depression, and home environment (Huth Bocks, et al., 2001). The Severity of Violence Against Women Scales measured domestic violence from 0 to 3 (never, once, a few times, many times). The Beck Depression Inventory was used to measure the severity of maternal depression that women experienced due to the domestic violence. The Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment was used to measure the quality of the home environment. Finally, the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revised (PPVT R) was used to measure children s receptive vocabulary along with the Block Design subtest of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence Revised ... • 3. The Mortality Of Alzheimer s Disease When you look around you see healthy people and sick people. Sometimes the sick go unnoticed because their illness is not apparent to the naked eye. Alzheimer s disease is one of many diseases that early on does not show any physical symptoms. On the other hand, Alzheimer s disease will end in death. Below will define morbidity and mortality, describe Alzheimer s disease, and present the rates of morbidity and mortality as they relate to Alzheimer s disease. When someone is diagnosed with a disease, they usually first want to know what it is. The next things that are usually looked at are morbidity and mortality. Most people who look at the numbers related to these words do not understand what they mean. Morbidity is the presence of a disease. Morbidity rate is the number given to a disease showing the percentage at which it affects a population. On the other hand, mortality is related to death. The mortality rate, or death rate, shows the percentage of a population that has died as a result of a particular disease. The typical person does not research morbidity and mortality rates by those names, however they are looking for the number of people diagnosed and the number of people who die from the disease. Alzheimer s is a disease of the nervous system and is one of the most common forms of dementia. It is characterized by memory loss and the loss of other intellectual abilities. • 5. Pros And Cons Of Eias For Landfills Alternatives: As previously mentioned, Gupta et al. believe current methods of conducting EIAs are ineffective. Therefore, they propose an unconventional method for conducting EIAs for landfill siting: a multivariable calculation of implicated factors using a fuzzy relation, or fuzzy clustering. This involves the attribution of a weight to each qualitative factor, in order to accurately assess the environmental impacts of landfills. This method distinguishes itself from the others because it accounts for the uncertainty caused by the expert s subjectivity, and for the lifetime of the landfill. The result of this method is a fuzzy relation between frequency of occurrence and the impact on environment [sic] considering the adverse consequence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is room for a lot of improvement in Quebec s waste management: currently, about half of household waste is eliminated (MDDELCC, 10) which is not economically viable. To reach its sustainability goal, the province drafted the Quebec policy for waste management 2011 2015. By the end date, it aims to reduce household waste to 700kg/person and to increase the diversion rate of paper, plastic, glass and metal scraps to 70%, and of organic waste to 60% (MDDELCC, 11). An additional benefit of these propositions is the creation of hundreds of jobs (MDDELCC, 2011). The plan, albeit optimistic, is still unclear about how to effectively implement waste recovery. In 2012, 6 years after the start of the City of Montreal s composting initiative, only 12% of organic waste was being recovered (Bruemmer, 2014). Montreal plans on building two biomethanization plants (where compost is converted into biogas), along with two composting facilities (Bruemmer, 2014). Four proposed sites have been rejected due to public opposition while an existing one closed this summer. Situated in Montreal s Southwest borough, the latter estimates that its yearly methane offset equals 800 000m3, which represents about 35 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. If writers choose to use voice in their writing, they must consider which voice will represent their writing the best. One of the first things that can come to mind in choosing a voice is the gender of the voice that is going to be used. Gender becomes an important decision, because a male or female voice may represent certain things better then the other gender. Male voices generally have a more dominant, deep, loud sounding voice. Compared to a female voice which generally has a kind, softer sounding voice. This may be sexist, but most people put a stereotype on different voices. As people read things they have formed a stereotype on what gender the voice is coming from. For example if a male reads a magazine article from a hunting magazine, they are going to think that a male wrote it without even looking at who actually wrote the article. This is the same for females reading a magazine about wearing make up, they have a stereotype of who writes these articles. • 9. The Importance Of Freedom In America Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America. Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order #15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina, 245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white owners just abandoned the land. The Port Royal Experiment was an effort by northern white missionaries, educators, and businessmen in the Sea Islands near Beaufort, South Carolina, to transform former slaves into educated, reliable and industrious wage earners. Congress established the Bureau of Refugees, Freedman, and Abandoned Lands in February 1865 to assist black and white Southerners left destitute by the Civil War. The South Homestead Act was passed by Congress in 1866, this set aside over three million acres of land for former slaves and loyal white Southerners to farm following the Civil War. In 1866 bureau officials tried to force freedmen to sign labor contracts with white landowners. Black men who refused to sign could be arrested. The most important institution among ... It is an amazing book to read I would recommend it for teens and young adults that have good emotional stability, because it is very intense but yet eye opening. It shows you that there is always some else that is worse off then you are. The story takes place in Daly City, California in 1973. My interest in this topic stems from working with people with developmental disabilities in a group home setting, many of whom suffer from seizure disorders. I understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have the condition which why it s important to educate people about it. According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that more than 3 million people have active epilepsy, with 200,000 new cases diagnosed each year (2014, p. 1419). Patients with chronic epilepsy were taken to clinics or asylums for observation which brought awareness to the variety of seizures and by the second half of the 19th century, there were a number of dedicated facilities built to care for people with Epilepsy. • 13. Myth Of Roman Mythology In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture, one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been fishing in a lagoon of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the man killed the crocodile. The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the water with her tail creating a flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who had climbed up a palm tree. After the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut off a piece of his flesh, planted it in the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the woman and begun to repopulate the world. The two flood myths mentioned above have a few similarities. The first is that the floods had come from the anger of powerful beings. • 14. Analysis Of The Story Araby In the short story Araby, we are shown a young boy s first encounter with love and what he will do for this girl. To help represent the protagonist s emotions and the way he views the world around him, Joyce uses color. The use and absence of color in the story helps the reader identify what the boy finds important in his life. This is done by using dark and sombre as adjectives and also not using color. Except, when Mangan s sister (protagonist s crush) is being described in the story. • 15. Death as Analyzed through Socrates and Hamlet Death, the one appointment we all must keep, and for which no time is set (Charlie Chan). Although many believe it to be ominous, death, signifies an end to this earthly and material life; the life of which we are sure of. Plato s Phaedo and Shakespeare s play Hamlet offer different perspectives on the life we are unsure of, namely death or the afterlife. Through the characters of Socrates and Hamlet, readers are offered two contrasting outlooks on death. On one side, Hamlet is haunted by the fear of the unknown, and leads his morality astray. Inversely, Socrates portrays a man who is relieved by the prospect of death. Both Hamlet and Socrates demonstrate inherent differences in their internal characteristics, but most notable difference is the characters contrasting outlooks on the meaning of life and death. Socrates, considered the leader of philosophy, WANTS to die, because only in the afterlife will he be able to see the truth without the distractions of his body. Hamlet, on the other hand, fears what will happen in the afterlife. He would like to escape his life, which at the moment is nothing short of depressing, but he worries that the afterlife might prove to be a bad dream, even worse than his life at this moment. In Phaedo, Socrates uses what he believes to be philosophical truths in order to convince his twice seven that the soul is eternal, and the body corrupts it. Therefore Socrates goes on to comment that any true philosopher would gladly face death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, the city s spokesman Philippe Sabourin, says that the contamination is not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000 cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the wastewater, expected to be 13 cubic meters a second [2]. However, it would be devastating if the city proceeds with their plan since the chemical and bacteriological mixture of wastewater must be observed at all times to ensure public health. In wastewater there are oxygen consuming materials, which needs to be minimized to protect from low dissolved oxygen conditions since it can be harmful to aquatic species [4]. • 19. Reading Volume Is Central Of The World According to Allington (2014), though reading volume is central to the development of reading proficiencies, typical commercial core reading programs tend to provide material to engage students in only 15 minutes of reading each day. With the remaining 75 minutes allocated to completing workbook pages and answering lower level comprehension questions, many students receive very little time to engage in reading. Cunningham (2005) reminds us that as early as 1977, Richard Allington pleaded, If they don t read much, how they ever gonna get good (p.1). Reading volume is defined as the time students spend reading in addition to the number of words they consume as they read (Allington, 2012). This combination impacts all aspects of students cognitive abilities, ranging from vocabulary development as well as knowledge of the world (Cunningham Zibulsky, 2013). In one of the most extensive studies of independent reading, Anderson, Wilson, and Fielding (1988) connected reading growth to the time students spent reading outside of school. They found that independent time spent reading was the best predictor of reading achievement. In this study, the researchers determined that fifth grade students that read forty minutes per day scored in the 90th percentile on standardized tests. Simply put, those who read more than an hour outside of school outperform their lower achieving peers. Alice in Wonderland Dream Analysis Dream Analysis of Alice in Wonderland Who s who and what s real; are we who we claim we are, and is reality really real or is everything just a fragment of what we think is the universe? A dream sequence is a technical term used mostly in film and television to set apart a brief interlude from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to incorporate into his story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion, was not his psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by writing these stories was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship between he and Liddell was not allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little girls, which are undoubtedly one exactly same person in the world of two universes; since the two realities can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not actually strange at all. Borges The Circular Ruins did not contain the same meaning as Carroll s existentialist ideas; Borges idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person wakes up, the person who is being dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our existence as real or just a fragment of someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as the actual reality of whoever is imagining us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more complex essence of existence: of two possibly imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers, and possibly himself, the meaning of life and the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story with insane poems, in addition to the wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney, turns out to be quite an amazing text for future existentialists and ... Include discussions of screening and use of the nutrition support algorithm and describe and discuss the tools used in settings to enable effective nutrition support. Malnutrition is the imbalance of body nutrients, energy and protein, which cause negative impacts on the body and its functions. Imbalances can mean levels exceed bodily requirements (overnutrition), leading to conditions like obesity and vitamin overdose effects. Malnutrition also refers to insufficient intake (undernutrition), which can cause conditions such as anaemia. From a clinical perspective, malnutrition is a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5kg/m2, unintentional weight loss greater than 10% within the last 3 6 months, a BMI of less than 20kg/m2 and unintentional weight loss greater than 5% within the last 3 6 months (Malnutrition Task Force, 2013, p.7). One suggested cause of malnutrition is financial limitations, as not all families can afford nutritionally rich, balanced diets. The National Children s Home (NCH) Poverty and Nutrition Survey 1991 found that two thirds of children and more than ½ of the parents (of families attending NCH Family Centres) were eating nutritionally inadequate diets (Leather, 1996, p.20). Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact, Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women. Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical gender roles affect society through social oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible to have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that which is more significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity is emphasized and its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings the song I ll Make a Man out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical representation of masculinity is obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? further points to the notion that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s main goal is to make a man out of each member in the army. The assertion is that femininity is not acceptable; the womanly recruits have been transformed into real men in order to competently fight the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save the day (2004). Although the film appears to be supporting feminist ideals as ... Chrysanthemums are not only flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene of his story exactly. He has an authoritative mind. For she had been wrong. She had said he was something he was not; she had felt familiar with him. Whereas he was apart all the while, living as she never lived, feeling as she never felt. (Lawrence 300) This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour of Chrysanthemums is successful. Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Epidemic Of Disease On The Continent Of Africa The topic of disease on the continent of Africa has been discussed in increasing frequency over the past three decades. Ideas regarding disease tend to center around the idea that disease can be eliminated by a one step cure. This viewpoint is flawed because it excludes other factors influencing disease. In this paper, I will argue that there are many factors that influence the presence of disease on a continent. More specifically, I will be focusing on Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) in the countries of Kenya, Uganda, and the Congo. To do this, I will explore publications focused on how the history of disease, colonialism, the environment, social environment, and influence of organizations from countries outside the continent have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symptoms of HAT in the beginning tend to be milder, consisting of nausea and fever. The disease is commonly referred to as sleeping sickness . It obtained this name from people observing individuals in a certain stage of the disease. There are two main stages of HAT caused by two different geniuses of tsetse flies. These two stages both have hemolymphatic and acute disease stages. However, one of the two forms an acute stage that is drastically more severe than the other. In this drastically different acute stage, the infected individual becomes almost zombie like and can experience psychotic episodes that occasionally involve violence. These episodes of an individual experiencing the acute stage gave the disease the nickname of sleeping sickness . Some cultures have deemed the disease as a result of demonic spirits and thus those infected can often be ignored because people are afraid of interacting with a bad spirit. Human African Trypanosomiasis was first discovered on the continent of Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The initial outbreak of HAT killed approximately half of a million people in the countries of Congo, Uganda, and Kenya. Shortly after this initial outbreak, a treatment for HAT was developed. The drug was penned Suramin and is still used for treatment of the disease today. Shortly after this drug was developed, a second drug known today as Pentamidine was ...
