Our presentations are often created and carried out from a wrong starting point. Several false presuppositions block our way to better, happier and more effective communication with our audiences.
Executive Book Summary of MADE TO STICK Anjali Mehta
The document discusses six principles for making ideas "sticky" or memorable: simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotional resonance, and storytelling. It provides examples and explanations for each principle. Simplicity involves stripping ideas down to their core. Unexpectedness grabs attention by breaking patterns. Concreteness means describing ideas through the senses. Credibility can come from personal experiences or testable claims. Emotional resonance associates ideas with what people already care about. And storytelling engages the imagination and burns ideas into memory.
What is Digital Empathy Anyway? Let's Find Out Together!Woj Kwasi
The document discusses digital empathy and ways to understand users online. It begins with definitions of key terms like digital, empathy, and digital empathy. It then provides examples of how analytics, heat maps, personas, and visitor recordings are used to understand online behaviors. The document outlines major lessons from a podcast about digital empathy, including having a clear value proposition, being intentional in design, telling compelling stories, and understanding context. It emphasizes the importance of humanizing users and having meaningful interactions over relying solely on algorithms or data.
The document summarizes key concepts from the book "Made to Stick" about making ideas stick or spread effectively. "Booth Brush Up" Trade Show Booth Presentation Training SlidesAndy Saks
The document provides tips and guidelines for booth representatives to effectively engage with attendees at industry events by attracting their interest, qualifying them to understand their needs, demonstrating products or services to meet those needs, and extending the conversation with follow up actions. It outlines strategies for each stage including proper body language, asking open-ended questions, telling impactful stories, and getting commitments for future contact. The overall goal is to increase leads, sales, and have an enjoyable experience for both the representative and attendees.
The document discusses the limitations of relying solely on consumer research when developing new products and services. It notes that people are often not good at accurately describing their own preferences and the reasons for their choices. Research subjects may provide answers they think are expected rather than how they truly feel. The document advocates observing how people actually use products and analyzing usage data, as well as getting consumers to discuss choices in story form rather than just giving evaluations. It concludes that while consumer input is still valuable, companies should not let research be the only guide and should have courage to bring unexpected innovations to market.

Masterclass: Confronting indifference to truthIan McCarthy
Many organizations are drowning in a flood of corporate bullshit, and this is particularly true of organizations in trouble, whose managers tend to make up stuff on the fly and with little regard for future consequences. Bullshitting and lying are not synonymous. While the liar knows the truth and wittingly bends it to suit their purpose, the bullshitter simply does not care about the truth. Managers can actually do something about organizational bullshit, and this Executive Digest provides a sequential framework that enables them to do so. They can comprehend it, they can recognize it for what it is, they can act against it, and they can take steps to prevent it from happening in the future. While it is unlikely that any organization will ever be able to rid itself of bullshit entirely, this article argues that by taking these steps, astute managers can work toward stemming its flood.

Representing chemicals using OWL, Description Graphs and RulesMichel Dumontier
Objects can be said to be structured when their representation also contains their parts. While OWL in general can describe structured objects, description graphs are a recent, decidable extension to OWL which support the description of classes of structured objects whose parts are related in complex ways. Classes of chemical entities
such as molecules, ions and groups (parts of molecules) are often characterized by the way in which the constituent atoms of their instances are connected via chemical bonds. For chemoinformatics tools and applications, this internal structure is represented using chemical graphs. We here present a chemical knowledge base based on the standard chemical graph model using description graphs, OWL and rules. We include in our ontology chemical classes, groups, and molecules, together with their
structures encoded as description graphs. We show how role-safe rules can be used to determine parthood between groups and molecules based on the graph structures and to determine basic chemical properties. Finally, we investigate the scalability of the technology used through the development of an automatic utility to convert standard chemical graphs into description graphs, and converting a large number of diverse graphs obtained from a publicly available chemical database
The document discusses BioPAX, a standard language for representing biological pathway data. It notes that BioPAX aims to enable integration, exchange, visualization and analysis of pathway data by formalizing terminology as an OWL ontology and instantiating data that validates against the ontology. However, it states that BioPAX data is not yet ready for the semantic web due to issues like duplicity in database terminology and lack of resolvable identifiers in cross-references. It suggests addressing these issues by normalizing cross-references through identifiers.org and maintaining the type of relationship in cross-references through more specific predicate properties.
Motivation of LIFE🦅 बाज लगभग 70 वर्ष जीता है ....

The document discusses transfusion triggers and when to transfuse red blood cells. It summarizes that the decision to transfuse should be based on individual patient factors like comorbidities, hemodynamics, and rate of bleeding rather than a single hemoglobin threshold. While guidelines recommend transfusion at Hb <7 or <10, clinical trials found higher transfusion triggers were not associated with better outcomes and increased risks. Physiologic compensation for anemia through increased cardiac output and dissolved oxygen delivery means lower hemoglobin levels may be tolerated without transfusion in some cases.

Beyond the Press Release: Everyday Storytelling and Your BusinessMadeleine Hinchy
In May 2013, I was asked by &company to speak at Vivid Ideas 2013 as part of their day-long event 'Design Your Day Job'.
I presented this presentation on content marketing, the role of storytelling in business and how creative professionals can learn to tell their story better to customers, clients, the media and others.
-----
Organised by &company and part of Vivid Ideas program, 'Design Your Day Job' explored how designers and creative professionals can run successful enterprises.
The premise was that designers can learn from people outside of the design industry who have turned their passion, ideas and creative skills into a business.
The event featured successful entrepreneurs and organisations from design, food, collaborative consumption, social enterprises and more. It explored business basics and new ways to approach customers, promotion and sales, whilst upholding the integrity of creative work.
Once Upon A Time At The Office: 10 Storytelling Tips To Help You Be More Pers...Steve Sorensen

This document provides 10 triggers to help inspire audiences in presentations:
1. Begin with the "why" - focusing on why the communication is important and the impact it could have.
2. Use questions to engage the audience and focus their attention.
3. Provide only the most essential information and data needed.
4. Visual aids like images, diagrams and graphs can convey information more effectively than words alone.
5. Appeal to audiences' emotions to help change perspectives in addition to logical arguments.
6. Understand your audience and speak to their interests and concerns.
7. Tell stories to engage audiences and make the content more memorable.
8. Use dynamic body language, eye contact and tone
At Big Fish Presentations, we know that boring presentations have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. If the content doesn't seem interesting, you can change that by how you present the information. Here are 8 ways to make ANYTHING interesting.
How to tell story? How to write a good content? What do you want to say? To Whom? When? Here are some fundamentals to write a good story content.
You is about what you do, and why you do it. It’s the stuff that drives you, the stuff that makes you special. It’s where your story starts.
Your audience is about taking your identity and making it part of other people’s lives. It’s about who’s going to be part of your story with you.
Your content is how you make the connection between you and your audience - things you do to engage your audience.
This guide is designed to to help you ask the question everyone must ask
if they want to make a difference.
How can you design meaningful interactivity without blowing your budget? How can you set up your e-learning for great engagement and better knowledge retention? Let's explore four simple strategies you can use, pretty much regardless of your tools. Presentation by Cammy Bean, VP of Learning Design
The document provides guidance on developing strong presentation skills. It discusses the importance of preparation, including establishing a clear aim for the presentation and understanding the audience. The document emphasizes that all great presenters work hard at their craft and are enthusiastic about their topic. Preparing the conclusion, main body, and introduction in that order helps ensure a logical flow. Knowing the audience provides insights to tailor the language and content effectively.
The document provides 5 tips for writing good headlines:
1. Write headlines that pique readers' curiosity and answer implied questions. Use active verbs and focus on one specific thing.
2. Target your headline to a specific group but make it appealing to a wider audience. Excite readers with stories, information or curiosities.
3. Use everyday language without jargon and focus on the clearest meaning. Prioritize active verbs.
4. Avoid ambiguity - headlines should be straightforward and not mislead readers.
5. End with a call to action, question, or controversy but only if you can fully answer the question or resolve the controversy.

1. 7+1 Myths About Presentation what’s wrong with them – and what to do instead
2. 1st Myth “ Presentation is… what I put into the PowerPoint/Keynote ”
3. 1st Myth “ Presentation is… what I put into the PowerPoint/Keynote ” That would be pretty easy. But also inefficient. If it was true, there would be no difference between a presentation and a newsletter. And we wouldn’t have to bother sitting at meetings. A great presentation consists of a passionate and true speaker (who doesn’t have to speak much ), important and interesting information being passed on and, optionally, of some supporting material projected on the wall.
4. 2nd Myth “ I was told: tell them about it, therefore the goal of my presentation is to inform ”
5. 2nd Myth “ I was told: tell them about it, therefore the goal of my presentation is to inform ” When you give them information, what will they do with it? Use it to laugh at you? Misinterpret? Forget? Ignore? Abuse it? If you do not have a clear and specific vision of what your audience should do, you’re only wasting people’s time. If all you need is to cover your back and tick a task labeled “inform”, don’t do presentations – send email. If not, focus on what will the information cause (What if it makes people angry? Should it do something else?)
6. 3rd Myth “ ” I mustpresent all the information I have
7. 3rd Myth “ ” I mustpresent all the information I have You don’t have to – and frankly, you couldn’t even if you wanted to. What each person wants is a specific bit of information that matters – to them, at the moment, in their situation. Or something that they feel they might use later. Present only things that help support your goal and just enough to make your audience do what you need them to do (or at least happy).
8. 4th Myth “ People are interested mainlyin getting all informationthat I have ”
9. 4th Myth “ People are interested mainlyin getting all informationthat I have ” Do you believe that? Generally, people are interested in having nice relationships, getting more comfort, more respect. Does your presentation offer them a way to one of these things? You are probably not presenting the newest coolest gadget, but still try to think: am I really offering something to people? Make sure you’re taking their time for a better reason than just for having an alibi that you did talk to them.
10. 5th Myth “ Other people are interested in the same things that interest me ”
11. 5th Myth “ Other people are interested in the same things that interest me ” If every programmer in an IT company was interested in quarterly gross revenue more than in the effectiveness of his code, would the firm prosper? If mums were interested in the same things that boys do, would we have happier homes? Talk about what matters to the audience and project things that help build appropriate emotions. Put all other information on paper or in handout; those who are interested will find it there.
12. 6th Myth “ They don’t read what I write them… When I read it aloud, they’ll be interested! ”
13. 6th Myth “ They don’t read what I write them… When I read it aloud, they’ll be interested! ” Why people reject reading something? It’s either because it’s too long, it’s being put in a boring way, they can’t orientate themselves in it or it’s completely out of the scope of their interests. Try saying something different from what you’re used to write. Talk about them and their pains and joys. Show them pictures, schemes. Talk passion where others write words and numbers. If you can’t, let the audience go and don’t present at all.
14. 7th Myth “ When projected on the wall, boring things become interesting ”
15. 7th Myth “ When projected on the wall, boring things become interesting ” If the things are boring in their substance, it’s really hard to turn them into something catchy. Boring stuff stays the same whether you encounter it in your bed or in an elevator. Put all possibly boring information on paper or handout; those who are interested will find it there. Talk about what matters and project things that help build appropriate emotions.
16. +1st Myth “ During a presentation, the most important person is me, the presenter ”
17. +1st Myth “ During a presentation, the most important person is me, the presenter ” Without making the audience listen, the presenter is nothing more than a sound of a distant babbling brook. The important thing is whether the presenter is able to 1) think about what matters to the audience,2) say something valuable about it.
