The document summarizes the process of creating a game from start to finish over multiple sessions. It describes creating the background, character, animations, and sound effects. Key details include using pixel art to draw the background and character, adding layers for realism, struggling most with drawing the character, feeling surprised by own progress in animating, and importing some sound effects while making others in BeepBox. The process concluded by ordering all screens, adding sound, and exporting the final game.

2. Process
When first starting to create my game the first thing I did
was create a new document with the dimensions of 120 by
80 pixels. I used these dimensions as it is clear to see the
game. I secondly then went and started to create a
background. Initially when doing this I had no clue as for
what I was going to create. I then decided to create a
similar background to Mario. I did this because I thought
this would be easier than a game which would be played in
a birds eye view angle. To create the background I selected
the pencil tool and started to draw a basic outline of where
I wanted the grass to be. To make this straight I held down
shift and dragged the pencil across the screen. I then
started to add some shading to my background. To do this I
selected lighter shades of green and started to draw a
couple of lines I then made it progressively got darker as I
got further down. I did this because it makes the
background look more detailed and professional. This is as
the same method is used in games such as mine craft and
Mario. I then repeated the process for the sky but with the
colour blue. The final thing I did was start to create other
layers of things that I will need to include later. These were
things such as coins , pause button and clouds. I did this to
save time in the future. To draw these I looked at existing
images and developed them in my own way. This was done
by adding different shades of colours and adding effects
such as inner glow , outer glow and a stroke.
3. Process
Today I started to create a character selection screen
and finished my starting menu. To do this I started to
add a clear title so that my audience could easily see
what game they are playing. I also wanted to include
a large visible title due to it being one of the
conventions of this unit. I did this title by using an
orange color and a pixel size of 1. after completing my
title I felt fairly happy with it. This was because I
thought It looked quite professional looking. This was
suppressing as I think that pixel art is probably my
weakest area. After this I then started to include some
buttons. These buttons were included so that the
audience have a choice into what they do. This idea
was inspired by other existing games such as crossy
road and subway surfers. I then added a character
selection button. For this I did not know what to
include on the button , this delayed myself doing
other things. I then decided to include a stick figure
on a button. This was because I saw this future on
crossy road and thought that it was really clever due
myself not having to write customize or choose.
4. Process
Today I have extended my current background by adding two
different screens. This has been done because I want the
game to be more fun. If the background was kept the same
the audience may get a bit sick and tired of the game. I also
did this to expand my skills within pixel art. I wanted to do this
because I do not feel that I am that good at drawing using
pixels. To do this I just stretched the background frequently by
using CRTL and T to transform , this allowed me to stretch the
image. I only did little bits at a time because if you try and
resize the whole image you can damage some of the pixels.
For my background I included a road setting , desert setting
and a water setting. To make this background look more
realistic and detailed I decided to add some layering. This was
done by including a At this stage I feel quite happy with my
work and I feel that I will be able to complete my game to a
relatively high standard. I also feel that my game will be quite
astatically pleasing if I continue to include similar amount of
detail.
5. Process
Today I decided to finally make a character. This was because then I could
quickly get onto animating my game. The character was a very hard
process for me. This was because I did not know what kind of character
to include. By this I mean I did not know if to include a similar character
to Mario or a character like the guy in subway surfers. This was also a long
process for me due to the difficulty. The character for me was the hardest
part of this topic so far. This was due to myself not being vary good at
drawing. I then decided to create a simplistic looking character who is
wearing a suit. I decided to include the suite as I thought that it would
make the character look more appealing and bold upon the background.
The suit was also chosen because I thought that it was an easy thing to
draw , although this is random I think that it looks alright. After creating
my character I started to animate my game. The first thing I did was select
window and then timeline , this allows you to create individual animation
frames. When animating I started to include all of the previous objects of
which I drew at the start of the project , these were things like coins and
clouds. to animate I would gradually move the background across the
screen and move my character when It was needed , for example when
he was going to jump. I then carried on this process. After doing this for
some time I stated to feel more confident within the animating of my
game. I also feel like I have surprised my self , this is because when
coming into this unit I initially thought that I would be useless due to my
self not being very good at drawing however I feel that I have done alright
so far.
6. Process
Today I decided to create some sound effects for my game.
For my sound effects I wanted to create a catchy piece of
audio's this would be similar to the Mario theme. The audio
changed frequently within my game. This was because of the
different surroundings in the game. I also did this as I
thought this was unique and different. For my sound effects I
included basic sound effects such as a jumping noise and a
coin noise. These were made in beep box. The noises took
about 5 minutes to make due to them being very simple. I
then imported some other sound effects from YouTube. This
was because I feel that if I were to create one of these sound
effects it would have taken longer than needed. After getting
my sound effects I then started to edit my game. The first
thing I did was to put all the screens in order. After getting a
sequence completed I then had to add the sound effects.
The sound effects usually had to be cut up in premier due to
their length. To do this I used the razor tool. After snipping
all the sound effects I then had to complete the same
process with my music pieces. When doing this I felt fairly
confident due to myself doing this numerous times
throughout different projects. I then after completing the
whole process had to export this. To do this I selected file ,
export and then render video , this was quite a simple
process. After completing this piece of production I feel
quite happy about it. This is because I feel that this looks like
a game however I do feel that this is not as technical as
some existing ones.
