Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Research a sector of the industry that you are interested in working in [e.g. film
production, TV, radio, graphic design, etc]. Use the information you find to produce an
illustrated guide to that sector. Include facts about employment, skills needed,
workforce information, etc.
Task 2: Practitioner Research File [1.1]
Within your chosen sector identify someone who is a notable practitioner and produce
a fact file about them. Research their journey to where they are now; look at
education, experience, skillset and look for insightful quotes about them and by them
to build a picture of who they are and how they work.
Task 3: Five Year Plan [1.1]
Produce a plan taking into account where you are now, what you will need to do next
and how to go about that in the next 5 years. Outline educational requirements
[college, University, courses, etc], experience you will need/would like to gain and
personal development that will be necessary to you in your future plans.
5. Task 4: Music Video Process Log [2.1, 2.2]
Complete the Music Video Process Log to evidence how you worked technically during
the Music Video production phase. Screenshot and explain how you managed to get
your production finalised.
Task 5: End of Year Review [2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2]
Produce an end of year review looking at how you have worked across the year,
considering each stage of production, which productions have worked/not worked,
how you have managed your time, what skills you have developed, how you have
worked with others and how you organised your time, resources and equipment
throughout the year. You should then produce an action plan for Year 2 selecting 5 key
areas you wish to focus on to develop further.
7. Task 1: Illustrated Sector Guide [1.1]
Research a sector of the industry that you are interested in working in [e.g.
film production, TV, radio, graphic design, etc]. Use the information you find to
produce an illustrated guide to that sector. Include facts about employment,
skills needed, workforce information, etc.
8. What we want from you is research in to the part of the media industry that you are
most interested in. That could be films, magazines, video games, television,
journalism… whatever you are interested in.
Find out about that industry. What jobs roles are available? What skills do people
need to work in that industry? What level of education is needed? How diverse, or
not, is the industry?
We want some good facts and figures that you can take and then use in your
illustrated guide.
Write down the information that you find, and keep a record of where you found it.
It’s best to get lots of research, and then pick the most useful information from that.
9. When making your illustrated guide, think carefully about all the elements
involved.
A good guide will have:
• Concise information
• Consistent image style
• Clear, consistent typography
• A coherent colour scheme
All of these elements need to work together to create your guide.
13. What we want from you is research a specific person that works in the part of the industry
you made your illustrated guide for. Focus on those involved in the production of media,
rather than people who just appear in it.
Find out as much as you can about them, to help you produce your fact file.
We want to know what their education was like, what experience they have and what skills
they have. Find quotes about them. Read about them. Get a good picture of who they are
and how they got to where they are.
Write down the information that you find, and keep a record of where you found it. It’s best
to get lots of research, and then pick the most useful information from that.
14. When making a fact file, think carefully about all the elements involved.
A good fact file will have:
• Concise and relevant information
• Quotes about the practitioner
• Information on their work and achievements
• Background on how they got in to the industry
This information can be presented with graphics, typography and a colour
scheme.
24. What are you currently doing to pursue a career in your chosen field?
Currently I am studying the level 3 creative media course at York college. I am wanting to do well so I have enough
points to get into university and continue my education in the area. During this time I'd also like to develop a
portfolio in order to show my experience, I believe having examples of my work will be helpful in the future. I am
also learning the necessary skills I need for the industry studying this course like how to use premiere pro and
photoshop effectively. I'm also doing lots of research into each topic about technique and how to make a project
look conventional and professional, knowing this information will be quite significant for future projects.
25. What do you plan to do next in the pursuit of your chosen field?
I would like to go to university next. I need to study a course within the field of film/media production and or
graphic design. I'd like to improve my skills by going to further education as I believe this will help me in the
industry. Having more qualifications will help when trying to get a job in the industry. Developing a portfolio to
show experience is also something I should continue with as getting practical experience is necessary for doing
well in the field of filmmaking and or editing. I should look at potential universities and courses around the area
and read into what they have to offer.
26. Select at least three potential University courses that would help you further your career aims. You should state
what the course is, which university it is run by, the entry requirements and why you think it would help you.
Course 1: York Saint John’s University - Media Production: Film and Television BA (Hons) [Minimum Entry
Requirements 96 UCAS Tariff points and 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including English
Language]
On this course I will learn traditional techniques of shooting, editing, sound, scriptwriting, production
management and studio work. It's 3 years long and will teach me what I need to know about filmmaking and can
lead into a future job as a film editor in the industry.
Course 2: University of York - BSc (Hons) Film and Television Production [A levels AAB]
This course will also teach me about filmmaking much like course 1, not just video editing but also
cinematography, screenwriting and other skills. This can also assist me when getting a job in the industry as a
video editor.
Course 3: York University – Film Production [Completion of a diploma program or at least two full semesters or
one year of full-time academic study at an accredited college and Overall average of 3.3 or better on a 4-point
scale/or equivalent]
On the film production course I'll be learning about all aspects of filmmaking such as cinematography, editing and
sound alongside studies in the concepts and practices of screenwriting, directing and producing. Having this
experience will yet again help me within the industry and may help in leading into a video editing job in the
future.
27. What type of work experience do you think you would need to help you in your future career? How might you
be able to find work experience placements? If you could pick anywhere to do work experience, where would it
be and why?
I could benefit from work experience directly in the industry and getting a placement at a studio, however main
work experience could come from free lancing in my spare time as showing practical experience is important
towards getting a job within the film industry. I could investigate nearby editing studios and try and get a
placement there for work experience, doing this will give me insight on the work environment. However, I should
prioritise developing my practical skills and creating smaller projects that can be put into my portfolio. Having a
good portfolio with evidence of my work will surely help me in my future career.
28. What specific skills do you need to develop? There should be a mix of industry specific skills and also personal
development points. When you identify these, come up with suggestions as to how you might make those
improvements.
I need to develop my teamwork skills when it comes to editing as its important to work as a team as well as
working closely with the director in order to replicate their vision in the edit. Working with those around me is
important in order to develop my ability to work as a team, sharing ideas and whatnot. I'll also have to develop
my video editing skills, using different techniques and researching into editing techniques within films. I believe
just practicing will assist me when acquiring these skills.
29. In 5 years' time I will…
In 5 years' time I will have finished my level 3 creative media course at York College and will also have developed a
portfolio from my college projects on blogger. I will then have tried to get a placement at a university in order to
develop my learning further and gain more practical skills in the area whilst also learning new techniques. I can
continue to develop a portfolio at university and can try get a work placement in order to gain some work
experience. There is also a possibility I could do some freelance work on the side in order to develop the
necessary editing skills I'll need. I can then either continue freelancing or attempt to get an internship at a studio
with my qualifications, freelancing on the side. Doing this will be a good start in making a name for myself in the
film industry in order to take my work further. My current college course is 2 years long, and most likely a
university course will be 2 – 3 years long full time, so in 5 years' time I will be trying to get work in the industry as
well as continuing to try gain as much practical experience as possible.
31. Task 4: Music Video Process Log [2.1, 2.2]
Complete the Music Video Process Log to evidence how you worked technically
during the Music Video production phase. Screenshot and explain how you managed
to get your production finalised.
There is a specific pro forma that you will use for this as part of your music video
production. Ensure that is completed with your Music Video project, to complete this
task.
You should then produce an action plan for Year 2 selecting 5
key areas you wish to focus on to develop further.
Complete the following slides to review your year. You can add images if you want to.
You can get screenshots from any part of your previous projects to support your work
on this.
