preserve the wonder of the creatures. Whereas, modern dragons are illustrated when
select stories have implemented new components that have served as counter
productive as depicted by the Harry Potter series which relegates the true plot

As I recently drove on Interstate 80, from Colorado to Iowa, I could not help but
think of John McPhee s book Rising from the plains; and how from a different
perspective a boring piece of land in the plains could reveal a rich history of
geological cycles. McPhee is able to bring to life the study of geologyin a way that is
relatable by creating relationships between the landscape, people, and history
through the use of transforming the same plot of land across eons of time. He uses
several pages to discuss geology, followed by stories about the love family ranch
as an overview of life on the very same plains four million years ago. This format
for reading allows the author to build layers of science facts with story so that the
humanistic element does not get distracted by the complex material. The reader

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was created with for this has

As long as there is not an Oscar for Best Stunt Work, Line Producers will continue

The Dust Bowl A Giant cloud of dust go roaring at you making you believe that the
end of the world is happening. Luckily it wasn t it was just a man made disaster of
death and destruction. Suffocating any thing not in a house or in a shelter. So what
in the world did America have to do to cause such a massive amount of dust to
decide to just fly away. Sunday, April 14, 1935, the day that is probably the most
related to the dustbowl, is known as the Black sunday (Dust bowl). It was caused by a
mighty strong front that swept across the plains. Burns stated Some 850 million tons

The Identity Of The National Community
Migrants, despite their separate collection of lifestyles, have a common need to
negotiate their inclusion into the national community that dissimilar to that of their
ethnic heritage. Strategic representation is needed to collaborate their identities as
migrants with their claims to inclusion. Of course, some migrant children born in
their parents host country may find themselves at odds with the previous generations
methods, and struggle to make themselves out as people who grow alongside the
national community. Ultimately, it is a matter of what migrants and their children
intend for themselves in terms of character and identitythat enables them to form a
deliberated relationship with the neighboring locals. There are always distinctive
ways of going about cultivating the migrants status as outsiders, or people who do not
belong amongst the locals, whether or not they realize it, Migrants collaborate their
individual and collective representations of belonging accordingly with what they
intend for themselves to be while taking into account the isolating perceptions of the
present national community.
Before anything else, it is vital to understand that the individual and collective
representations of belonging go beyond that of simple political adaption. Rather,
should the migrants find themselves developing a need to represent their
communities, then it is clear that their new environment pressures reexaminations

The Body As A Metaphor For Society
In Andean society many societies and cultures generally believed that all things, such
as mountains, rivers, and waterfalls had life (Benson 2001: 1). The Andean
individuals believed that all inanimate objects were thus animated. This ideology not
only influenced the way they thought about the world, but also the way they treated
and viewed the body. The body is a very important and useful theme in archeology as
the body acts as a metaphor for society, the way a society/culturetreats the body
provides vital important regarding their worldview. In addition, the body is a tool of
lived experience which can indicate how individuals lived, what was sacred or
important to them and also shedding light on who they were. In other words, by
understanding how bodies were conceptualized in Andean societies archeologist can
indicate the significance of certain ritualpractices. It is important to deconstruct the
body as it provides social truths regarding a specific culture within the Andean region.
Furthermore, people do things to their bodies which may help archeologists
understand their belief system, the practices/work they may have been doing. For
example, if an individual spends their whole life grinding corn the body would reflect
this activity and thus would be able provide information regarding that culture. This
theme concerning the body pushes us to consider distinct ontologies as different
cultures and societies developed differently and thus has diverse beliefs,

Day Of The Dead Thesis
Coco is the story of a young boy in Mexico named Miguel who enjoys music, but is
apart of a family that has banned all forms of music due to a family feud. During
The Day of the Dead, he is whisked away to the Land of the Dead where he is given a
chance to learn about his family s past and their hate for music.
I saw very little advertising or trailers for Coco compared to most major Disney
films, so I was expecting a neat little Disney movie that didn t quite match up to the
Disney classics. However, Coco turned out to be a heartwarming movie about
balancing your family and your dreams.
Disney s advocacy for cultural awareness is as prominent as ever and a lot of love
and understanding of the Mexican culture is put into this movie. The Land of the
Dead could easily be depicted as a morbid and inappropriate setting for a children s

Many children s films are very black and white, evil and good, wrong and right, but
Coco does a wonderful job of exploring the gray areas and how you don t always
have to take sides completely.
Visually, the movie is stunning and the animation is flawless. Even minor
movements like falling or walking will affect objects around the characters in
fascinating ways. Seeing Miguel walk across a lead ridden rooftop and having each
step disrupt the leaves around him is truly a joy from a technical standpoint. The
skeletons in the Land of the Dead interact with the world in unique and fun ways that
further immerse viewers.
The most impressive part of the movie to me was how interconnected and well
thought out the story was. Disney songs are always fun and do an excellent job of
explaining a situation or character, but Coco uses its main song as a vital plot point
that connects the story as a whole. The characters have a set goal and everything they
do always relates back to that main

Surviving the wilderness Imagine being in fifty degrees below zero weather trying
to survive in the Yukon. In the story the no named new comer is traveling
throughout the freezing Yukon cold weather when he was told not to. But he still
went anyways to meet up with his friends. During the story he met an Alaskan
husky that tried to build a fire so many times; at this point he is over it. So he tries
to kill the dog to sink his hands in the dog s body. Luckily the man ends up losing
control because he is so cold, and ends up dieing. In the story To Build a Fire, Jack
London uses naturalism to explain why the protagonist s lack of knowledge about his

When London was in Mexico he was diagnosed with dysentery and pleurisy. Then
when he want to California his illness recurred, he had kidney disease and on
November 10th he passed a kidney stone. On November 21st he was in pain and

him not to go and if he did go do not go alone. Towards the end he starts to realize
that the old timer knew what he was talking about, That man from Sulphur creek had
spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country. And he had

Capital punishment is a human way of being able to kill someone down for a
certain crime. The movie Green Mile and Dead Man Walking both have scenes
where Frank Darabont and Tim Robbins put the audience in a negative view about
the death penalty. The green mile has two major points where it puts you in a
negative position with Eduard Delacroix execution and how brutal it was and John
Coffey s story of why he is in there and his execution knowing he is innocent. Dead
man walking had one major scene where they put you negative spot about capital
punishmentand that is when Mathew gives his speech to the victims families saying

This is the opposite in Dead Man Walking in Matthew did commit the crime but
blames everyone one else when John Coffey just can t save himself. John Coffey
starts out looking like a big tough bad looking criminal that would have done the
crime, but over the rest of the movie they convey him as a gentle giant that seems
like he could not have done it at all. As instead you have Matthew that starts off as
a killer and just gets proved more and more till he admits he did the crime. Frank
Darabont uses this to put the audience in a bad perspective in that John Coffey has
been sentenced to death even though he did not commit the crime. As Tim Robbins
lets you want to hate Matthew but then makes you feel bad for him when you see
how much the family hates him and the way he apologises. In the Green Mile the
audience has to see an innocent person be put to death and the family enjoy it even
though he is innocent making the people watching feel terrible about capital
punishment. When in Dead Man Walking it is that he is a bad person that askes
for forgiveness in the way Matthew says I hope my death gives you some relief
gets the audience to feel bad in the way that he apologies to the family. Frank

While glancing through my bookshelf, searching for a National History Day topic,
I found Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project, a book my aunt found at a Polish
Pottery Festival. It described four girls from a rural Kansas school discovering the
story of an unsung Holocaust heroine. Their research led to a winning National
History Day performance. I was so inspired by the story, that I began, with my family
s encouragement, conducting research for my own project on Irena Sendler.
I was surprised by how little primary resources are available in relation to Irena
Sendler, due to the Communist regime in Poland after the Second World War. I
turned to sources relating to the Holocaust and Warsaw Ghetto. I also discovered Yad
Vashem, the International Holocaust Museum in Israel had much to offer. Books
were my heroes during research. I read as much as I could about Irena and the
ghetto. Irena s Children, Schindler s List, Night, and The Black Seasons. I read oral
histories on the website of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The
