This is particularly true for industrial goods, on which tariffs have fallen from around 40% at the end
of World War II to a tenth of that today. Nevertheless, tariffs continue to influence trade patterns.
By making products more expensive to consumers, tariffs hamper demand for imports. They also alter
the relative prices of products, and can protect uncompetitive companies and their overpriced
products. These distortions are particularly pronounced in many non OECD countries where tariffs
remain substantially higher than in the OECD area.
Tariffs on agricultural products are on average much higher than those on industrial products, although
there is considerable diversity from country to country. Moreover, tariffs may be coupled with quotas
whereby a country sets a tariff of, say, 10% on the first 10 000 units of imported grain (called the tariff
rate quota, or TRQ) but increases it to 100% on any additional grain imports
(called the above quota tariff). One OECD study found that such tariffs on agriculture products were
equivalent, on average, to a straight tariff of 36% for OECD countries and 63% for selected non
OECD countries, compared with agricultural tariffs of 15% in
OECD countries and 43% in non OECD countries.
Even when tariffs have been reduced, the way they are structured continues to pose problems in both
agriculture and industry.

Part A
Question 1
Step 1: Area of law
The area of law is contract law focusing on the element of agreement.
Step 2: Principles of law
Contract law is defined as lawfully enforceable agreement between two or more people to a contract.
An agreement also known as a promise consists of an offer and an acceptance. An offer is defined as
indication of the terms upon which an individual is ready to be obligated. On the other hand, an
acceptance is the agreement of the terms that have been offered. The parties associated with the
agreement are known as an offeror or an offeree. The offeror is the one who makes the offer, and the
offeree is the one accepts the offer (Curtin College 2014).
For an offer to be satisfied, there are rules to be considered. The offer has to be complete, promissory,
intention to undergo a contract when accepted, and focused on an individual or a group. In addition,

Westward Expansion In The West
The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences such as land,
and the individualist mindset remain the same today. Also, a lot of ways the frontier land today is
isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism
and individualism in the United States.
As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, the frontier experience converted settlers into
individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands of the West. The ample amount of resources
and the greater social mobility of frontier areas instilled a form of individualism in American
frontiersman. This is similar to the individualism present today, for instance in politics and other
government affairs, people dislike of governmental interference in their affairs, similar to the people
that had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less governmental
interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar environment, as travelers adapted and
devised new techniques and objects to cope with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in
Americans being able to adapt to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front. In
many rural areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement is
still evident today, especially in the state we live in.
Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of Indian and the march
of manifest destiny that made America great and special, this is still evident today in society. For
instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines were on Native American tribal land, yet we as
Americans used the power of authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit
of America. That was the notion in the past, and still is the notion today, Native Americans were not
considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we had. The representation
of the West showcased triumph of civilization over savagery. Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly
essays were written that stated moving west separated Americans from their European roots, those
who were from there. This is evident today as well,

Terrorist Motivation
Motivation for Terrorist Acts All terrorism is meant to accomplish one thing. What has been popularly
called an act of terror is so termed because the perpetrators hope that they can affect the manner in
which people perceive their safety and the government that is supposed to be protecting them. With
this goal in mind, every act that can be called terrorist in origin wants to have a psychological
component. The success or failure of the attempt can, in one way, be seen as effective depending on
the news coverage of that event and the way that electronic and print news outlets view it. Recently, a
terrorist plot in Indonesia was thwarted which could have done severe damage to the property and
lives of foreign nationals in the region. The plot, which was against a variety of Western targets, was
designed to create the maximum amount of chaos during a small period of time. It will be argued in
this paper that even though the plot was stopped by the Indonesian army and police, it was a success
in creating the desired psychological effect, and that other similarly foiled plots have also been
successful. Taking the second argument first, the Twin Towers in New York were not bombed just one
time. In the early 1990 s they were subject to a relatively small explosion (relative to what happened
in 2001) with a larger plot doused by police. Unfortunately for the terrorist group, their larger plan did
not work, but it caused a panic among many people who wondered if the US was

The New Use of Information Technology in the Operating Room
The new use of information technology in the operating room: The future of telemedicine in the OR
for patients in underserved areas Information technology has become a critical component of all facets
of healthcare and has taken on increased prominence in operating rooms as well as in other
components of care such as diagnosis and screening. No longer mainly used for improved electronic
record keeping (although this is one of its strengths), information technology is changing the
healthcare system in profound ways. The gap between information technology and clinical technology
has been getting smaller and more and more functions of IT are now part and parcel of ordinary
surgical procedures (Lockridge 2013). For example, while x rays and MRIs are historically a clinical
technology but now they re being captured digitally and used in electronic medical records and for
image guided surgery, bringing them into the realm of information technology (Lockridge 2013). One
of the most up and coming fields featuring new technology is that of telemedicine or remote medical
technology: once it was mainly relegated to consultation, now it has also been applied in the operating
room. The use of telemedicine to break the isolation of the operating room is a highly achievable goal.
An open operating room has information on demand for the personnel, fluid communication among
operating room personnel, and broad interaction with the learner community and consultants. In an

The Power Of Russia
The Russian Federation has been one of the world s greatest Super Powers and it has been for well
over a century. However, is Russia still considered the once great powerful nation that it once was?
Although, prior to 2009, Russia was using weapons that were decades old, the superpower continued
to maintain one of the largest militaries in the world. Russia s economy suffered a dramatic hit due to
a recession that it is slowly emerging from. The unwavering support of its allies has gradually
dwindled due to recent actions Russia s key leaders have taken; even so, there have been some key
improvements over the last few years that prove Russia may be moving towards a brighter future.
These few factors weigh into the debate and each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, until the equipment and weapon arsenal have reached a complete state of improvement, the
Russian military will continue to fall behind the rest of the World Super Powers. The state of the
Russian economy does not make the situation any better. Oil makes up two thirds of the total exports
from Russia, despite multiple discussions to diversify resource reliance (David, 2017). The global
financial crisis of 2009, coupled with falling oil prices, international sanctions, and structural
limitations pushed Russia into a deep recession in 2015, with the GDP falling by close to 4%. (CIA
World Factbook, 2017). The contracting economy continues into 2016, with the GDP falling another
0.6%, expecting to fall by another 5% in 2017 if oil continues below $40 per barrel. Without an
immediate negotiation to either lift trade sanctions or find an alternative resource dependence, the
economic decline will continue. Trade sanctions emplaced after the Crimea incident in 2014 were
implemented by the European Union (EU) and the United States to target the Russian financial,
energy, and defense sectors (Lee, 2016). The continued devaluation of the Russian ruble multiplied the
effect of strain on the fledgling nation. Currency values fell approximately 50% since the middle of
2014; in turn, making it more expensive for Russia to import from other countries. The future of
Russia s economy is uncertain. Unless their leadership

Book: The Feiner Points of Leadership by Michael Feiner
The Feiner Points of Leadership is one of the interesting and application oriented books I have read. I
would recommend the book to my friends and colleagues who aspire to be a good leader. This book
should be read by all the leaders and managers to be successful. It exemplifies some of the important
skills manager or leader should practice at the same time it explains the mistakes one should avoid
being a successful and effective leader. Michael Feiner s experience in PepsiCo, given examples and
instances in his tenure makes it easier to understand the facts in detail. These examples also helps
retain all the points and laws explained in the book.

He was a good manager but not a leader as he was exceptional planner and controller but was unable
to have a good relationship with the team members. All of us never felt motivated by him to work.
The book also states the fact that to become successful in the organization, one should have
management and leadership skills in balance. As the imbalance between these two can be harmful for
the person and for the organization he is working for. Book has also given the way you can analyze
your own skills and if you are leader or manager which can be very helpful for anyone to examine by
their own. In part two, Author sheds light on relational leadership. Relational leadership applies to
everyone irrespective of gender, race or seniority. Leadership is always considered as power and
authority but in day to day life, leadership is not about power and authority but it is about taking
people with you, motivate them, show confidence in them and show that you believe in their
capability. People work better if they are motivated. In my career I have worked for several different
managers but one of the mangers, Amar for whom I liked working the most. I worked for Amar for
few months during intra skills development program. He was a people oriented person. Also, he was
famous for developing leaders in the team. When I started working he gave me the project to work on

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) And All The...
The story is an intriguing tale that I would argue explicates and profoundly depicts the different
dynamics associated with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and all the corresponding
tendencies that exacerbate the anxiety. The main character, Mr. Melvin Udall s behavior and actions
speaks volume about the debilitating effects of the disorder. He seems to constantly have unwanted
and intrusive thoughts that can t seems to get out of head, making him obsessed with it, Example the
constant irrational worry about dirt at home, in the restaurant, on the streets so as to not come in
contact with germ, virus or disease, and excessive concerns with order, arrangement, or symmetry, as
well as Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others a distasteful religious and sexual thoughts or
images. The anxiety that is developed as a result of the above tendencies that compels him throughout
to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and arrangements, such as cleaning, repeatedly washing of
his hands and one occasion bathing for hours, while Helen, the waitress waited for him to go a date,
clearing demonstrating the compulsion that is too often difficult to control, even though it appears
irrational. It must be said that this compulsive aspect of the symptoms tend to help him mitigate or
ease the anxiety that persist. So in a narrow sense the compulsive behavior serves as a positive remedy
or coping strategy, but generally it is irrational

A Review of Nancy Faser s Rethinking the Public Sphere
Priyanca Vaishnav, Satish Poduval, Media and the Public Domain 13th February 2007 Report:
Rethinking The Public Sphere by Nancy Fraser Rethinking The Public Sphere is a response to
Habermas 1973 essay, later published in English as The Public Sphere in 1989. Habermas states his
concept of the public sphere as both historical, and normative. It is historical both in the sense of era
and region 20th century Western Europe. He dismantles the distinctions between the public and
private domain. According to Habermas, man should be autonomous from the state and the civil
society, but he feels that public ness is degenerating due to the advent of the mass media. Mass media

Laissez faire capitalism disturbs equilibrium and some level of state intervention and regulation on
economy and redistribution essential. Privatization hinders free discussion in public sphere. The
informal discursive sphere is independent of the government or the state and functions as a thorough
critic. The separation provides the weaker publics with an opportunity to play an active part in
decision making and not just presenting a position. The bourgeois conception seems speculative of
this discursive authority. She defends that the effect of public opinion is greater if it can affect
decisions made by the state. But, the notion of We instead of I does not necessarily reinforce the
dominant opinion regarding a subject and subjugate the subaltern public. It might be pertinent to use
the we to make the shared aims prominent. It evokes a shared social identity. But she also expresses
serious doubts about whether such a separation should be carried too far, as this can cause
powerlessness to the state in legislative and administrative matters, which require its dominance even
in a democratic and egalitarian social structure. Thus, Nancy Fraser stresses on a need of a more post
bourgeois approach as against Habermas bourgeois conception of The Public

School District Budget Essay
Due to potential changes within a school district or a particular school, the construction of a school
district budget can be tough to prepare. In Spartanburg school district 5, of the proposed school district
budget is pieced together by the needs that have been mentioned from administration on the
elementary, middle school, and high school levels. The foundation of the budget is initially rolled over
from the previous year, but additions are made on to the budget where the superintendent and other
administrators feel additions may be necessary. In some years, preparing a budget is simple if there are
no major changes or additions being made in relation to administration, teachers, or additional support
staff. In the proposed budget, areas such as budget changes, general fund budget summary,

Socio-Cultural Impacts
Socio cultural impacts
Before FIFA World Cup 2010 launched in South Africa, the main attraction was mostly on gold and
diamonds. The number of crime rate is what people knew about South Africa, and since the high
crime, so there are not so many people come to South Africa for travel or investment. Therefore, most
of the cultural in South Africa are not familiar by the world. But FIFA World Cup has been the biggest
and a very successful promotion for the cultural of South Africa and it also make a big impact to the

and safety operation. So, there are more and more companies would like to come for investment, and
their investment will be a strong motivation to the South Africa economy, it will make more and more
employment opportunities, it will let the development be much faster. For example, Nike, a brand of
sporting products, has invested million of USD in South Africa for their promotion, like install a large
transflective on the largest building in Johannesburg, and found a small football club for the football
training. These investments also employ local residents to work, whatever the FIFA 2010 would
finish, but the facilities will still run and still offer employment opportunities for the local residents.
Negative impact
Although the FIFA 2010 let South Africa get much profits and have obvious increase on the economy,
but there are many negative factors in it. For example South Africa government has invested about
45billions in FIFA 2010, and it has made about 49billions income for South Africa, it looks like the
expanses and income can balance, but the 75% of income need to hand over to The International

Jews During The 19th Century
Jews have a fairly long history in Hungary. It is believed that the first Jews settled in Hungary in the
2nd century CE (World Jewish Congress). In 1251 there was a Jewish charter that put all the Jews
under royal protection. After this, there was a large number of Jews that moved to Hungary which led
to the development of historical communities. After the annexation of Hungary by the Ottoman Turks,
Jews lived in peace, as long as they paid taxes. Along with the expulsion of the Ottoman Turks, the
Jews disappeared from Hungary. It was not until the 18th century where Ashkenazi Jews starting

Jews escaped to Romania, neutral countries, or Budapest. Zionists helped Jews by providing fake
passports, food, clothing, and places to hide. Unfortunately, Budapest did not always remain a safe
haven for Hungarian Jews. The majority of these Jews were sent to ghettos. By January 1945, nearly
98,000 Jews from Budapest had died on marches to Austria. At the end of the war, about 565,000
Hungarian Jews perished (Jewish Virtual Library).
Post Holocaust, about 250 Jewish communities were reestablished, mainly in Budapest. The
Hungarian government abolished their anti Jewish legislation. In December 1948, the Jewish
communities were recognized, guaranteed religious freedom, and were promised financial support. At
this time, the Zionist movement started building schools and youth groups. Diplomatic relations with
Israel were established in 1948, which led to a large group of Hungarian Jews immigrating to Israel.
The rise of the Communist Party led to the closure of many Jewish institutions and the arrest of Jewish
activists. Mass immigration to Israel was not allowed. About 20,000 Jews from Budapest were forced
to leave. The year 1967 marked the end of diplomatic ties to Israel. (Jewish Virtual Library). In the

Pros And Cons Of Gunter Demnig
To determine the general atmosphere regarding Gunter Demnig s artwork, we took German newspaper
articles from individual cities as representative of the local opinion. As each controversy consists of
the pros and cons, the public has also highly varying perception of the memorial, which will be
presented in the following. At first sight, the Stolpersteine are perceived very positively through their
visualisation of individual destinies across whole cities (Korn, 2014). This illustration makes the past
prosecution more real and accessible for the public and is considered as an opportunity to remember
every day (Woldin, 2014). It goes even so far that relatives of the victims consider the Stolpersteine as

As a private person, he blames him for exploiting the situation and to gain from a million dollar
business (Killy, 2014). However, the initiator of the Stolpersteine in Hamburg, Peter Hess, subtends
that the price of 120 Euros for one Stolperstein is not enough to make capital out of it (Kaiser, 2014).
Furthermore, the artist does not take any money for his work input, but only for the manufacturing
process of the stones (Wie Steine an die Ausgrenzung erinnern, 2004). Showing on the one hand, that
the Jewish community in Hamburg is not committed to the negative comments of Killy, but rather
supports the project and on the other, the large extent and its emotional component in which the
monument is discussed. As we can see, the reactions of the public differ quite substantially. There
exist many proponents of the memorial who are very positive towards Demnig s approach of
remembering the victims and support his idea. Although there exist some concerns about the
Stolpersteine, overall it still resulted in in a wide spread of the memorial.

Analysis Of The Native American Folktales In The Snake...
Today we often read a book or Youtube a video to learn something new or to entertain ourselves but
during the fifteenth century, technology did not exist and paper was considered a luxury. The Native
Americans used to entertain themselves by passing around stories orally, called Indian folktales. The
Native American folktales have different themes that portray different life lessons. The life lessons
that will be covered in this essay will be having self discipline, knowing that every good thing comes
to an end, and with every mistake there is a consequence. In The Snake Brothers, the main theme is
not listening to directions. one of the life lessons to be learned is to listen to directions. The characters
were four brothers all of whom were hunting for game in order to survive. They happen to come
across a buffalo who promised them it s meat but with the offer came a direction. The older brothers
disregarded the directions and only took the meat while the youngest brother took on the buffalo s
directions. This is proven in the story by, The youngest brother went to the top of the hill and spread
out the skin, skull, hooves, and tail just as the voice had told them. The older brothers suffered a
consequence for not listening to the buffalo s directions, which happened to be them turning into
snakes and not being able to return to their village. The youngest brother however, found much
success after listening to the buffalo s directions. He was able to bring back the

Gender Inequality In The Media
Anderson Cooper. Don Lemon. Jake Tapper. Matt Lauer. These faces flash across our television
screens, constantly crop up in our daily conversations, and dominate the news and media. But wait,
there s something missing from the list of names above a group constituting nearly 51% of our
population women( Women s Health USA 2012. ). Scarce are mentions of successful female
journalists. Scarce are women confidently voicing their political opinions on reputable news channels.
Scarce are truly powerful female journalists. In reality, this problem goes unnoticed by most in fact,
despite being a news and politics aficionado, it didn t hit me until recently that women were so
blatantly marginalized in this industry. It is perfectly valid to question the relevancy of such an
obscure issue, but obscurity does not equate to unimportance. Portraying women unequally in the
media defies not only our principles, but also the nation s principles. How can we claim that we are a
nation of equal opportunity if we don t practice what we preach? We must encourage women to
increase their political awareness and take on leadership roles in the media, especially in covering the
most vital topics, because the underrepresentation of women in media encourages disparity between
the sexes.
The problem of gender inequality in media has two main aspects the shunning of women into petty,
less important aspects of news and a clear lack of women in leadership in media. According to a report

What Is The Similarities Between Pride And Prejudice And...
Interrelationships in Joe Wright s Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007)
Joe Wright (London, 1972 ) is an internationally acclaimed English film director. He is particularly
famous for the cinematic adaptations of two major works within English Literature; that is, Jane
Austen s Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Ian McEwan s Atonement (2001). In the following essay, I
shall discuss the interrelationships that can be found between the two, with a special focus on the
central motifs, the audio visuals, the cast and crew and lastly, the angle taken by Wright himself on his
own cinematic production.
Pride and Prejudice and Atonement s central motifs are to some extent alike. In Pride and Prejudice,
the couple has to hurdle both Darcy s pride and Elizabeth s derisive prejudice towards him so that they
fulfil their love. In Atonement, love is also an important theme, yet Cecilia and Robbie s relationship
is portrayed quite differently. In Pride and Prejudice, love and desire are portrayed in a more
sentimental and chaste manner whereas in Atonement the portrait is much more troublesome and
passionate. The historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Working For A Major Cola Company
We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this
experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working for a
major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and then more
importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous experiments. Our
main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move forward in finding anything
out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After looking at the machine and doing
research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be able to get values of both absorbance
and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to give these values by shining a light beam
through a solution and measuring the intensity before and after it has passed through the solution.1
After doing research we were able to put the machine to use in order to get first hand experience of
how to use the machine and to get an understanding of the relationships between results present by the
spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group
choose the colors red and blue. Along with the food coloring we would also be running Potassium
Permanganate through the machine. By sending light beams of different wavelengths through the
solutions we were able to find the absorbance of each solution shown in Table 1 as well as the

The History of Famous Space Films Essay
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... Humans have been fascinated by space for generations.
They are intrigued by its lovely mystery that contains a multitude of possibilities. Significant
improvements in space discovery opened many opportunities for filmmakers to go to infinity and
beyond. Outer space has been portrayed on the silver screen countless times, from Star Wars, the epic
space opera series, to Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon), the iconic French silent film, to
Gravity, the Academy Award nominated contemporary thriller. After the moon landing in 1969, the
motion picture industry began to produce more stories about space travel; thus, a wide variety of space
films that appeal to different audiences was created. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, there are beings called Selenites that inhabit the moon. Le Voyage Dans La Lune is a
fantastic example of a science fiction film that is not quite scientifically accurate. However, it is an
excellent piece of film work for the time and also because the short, primitive science fiction film
envisioned things that happen in real space travel long before the actual moon landing event occurred
many years after the film was produced.. The famous Star Wars franchised space opera films are
probably the most widely known space film in the history of famous space films. The opening crawl is
a work of pioneering credits that no one in film had ever imagined of before. In addition, the acting is
great and the effects are created using the mathematical concept of fractals so those are reasons that
the Star Wars film grew to be so popular and in the limelight. In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,

Conflict Criminological Theories
Differing from what we learned earlier from positivist, classical, and neoclassical theories, these
Critical Theories began to emerge around the early 1950s. Conflict, Radical, Peacemaking, and
Postmodern Theories are for the most part critical theories. They assume that, ...human beings are both
determined and determining. (INTEXT)p.116
Conflict Criminology is commonly known and associated with the ideas that the rich are against the
poor, right versus wrong, healthy versus the sick, and the good versus the bad (Bohm, R.M., Vogel, B.
L., 2011). All of these examples have in common a conflict between them. Whether it s formed over a
social status or through some form of trouble within individual lives, conflict exist in a form of
supremacy and control over others. In today s society, people are overpowered by unfair wages,
unaffordable education fees, unjust systems for jobs, and corrupt procedures of social wealth within
social classes. Along with a conflict of work, where careers are either offered for those who want to

Generally speaking, this theory contends that crime is linked to human suffering and that to put a full

Strategic Leadership Plans of Organizations
1. The Blake Mouton leadership grid uses the axes of concern of people and concern for production to
describe five different leadership styles auditory compliance, middle of the road, impoverished, team
management and country club. The National Council on Aging can be described by the Blake Mouton
model as team management. The organization s vision makes clear that t is a people oriented
organization. Trust and respect are important, and work is done by people who share in the common
vision and are willing to work hard towards it.
2. Hersey and Blanchard argue that the maturity of followers is task specific. They focus their model
on two types of maturity job maturity and psychological maturity. The works at the NCOA tend to be
experienced people with many years on the job, and also having worked in other organizations for
long tenures as well. This gives them a high level of job maturity and psychological maturity as well.
In an organization that is characterized by high maturity of followers and a high relationship
orientation, the management style is usually supporting, which is a fairly accurate description of the
NCOA. New workers tend to receive more coaching, but the experienced workers seldom require
more than support for their tasks.
3. The American Association for Retired People fits into the Blake Mouton leadership grid is middle
of the road management. There is equal emphasis on production as people at AARP. Part of this is due

Walter Williams Journalism Creed
Walter Williams, the founder of the University of Missouri s Journalism School, believed that unless
journalists were trained as professionals, they would never earn the public s trust. Journalists needed
to be held accountable professionally and personally in order for the profession to endure. In 1914,
Williams wrote the Journalist s creed. The creed was an affirmation of the ethics of journalism.
Although the creed still is the clearest definition of the principles, standards, and values of journalists,
the world is changing, and that includes journalism. Thus, the Journalist s creed needs to be updated.
Walter Williams did a brilliant job of accentuating the principles of journalism as a profession.
According to the Journalists Creed, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Home Schooling
Home schooling is a type of education that takes place in the home; it can be defined as parents or a
small group of students from a community studying an academic curriculum at home or any confined
place either for personal reasons or any other purpose. It has been a controversial choice for education
and has been opposed by many in the past since the early twentieth century as it was illegal in most
states. Home schooling topic which was not even considered earlier is now being regarded salient as
we can observe the drastic change from 19th century to now, Ray s studies shows that, A dramatic
change began around the late 1970s, one that resulted in slightly more than 2 million home schooled
students in grades K to 12 in the United States during the spring of 2010 (324) also, Between 1999
and 2007, homes schoolers in the United States increased by an estimated 74 percent twelve times the
rate of public school growth and now likely number more than two million altogether (Kunzman 76)
but Johnson has given the statistics in another perspective as Early home schoolers joined together to
win favourable legislative and judicial outcomes that resulted in the legalization of home schooling in
all 50 states by the early 1990s (298). Compared to any other countries More African Americans,
Native Americans, Muslims, wealthy urbanites, actors, musicians, and athletes have joined the ranks
of the home schooling (Johnson 304). Even though there are positive effects of home

Alfred Hitchcock Identity And Identity
The greatest art in films is by the means of the ability to create an emotion in the viewers of the film
and by the means of and imagery. Alfred Hitchcock, for long time, has been a household name since
he began filmmaking. Hitchcock has been able to accumulate a well known and distinct cinematic
techniques making him stand out as one of the best filmmakers around the globe. What makes
Hitchcock s films must watch movies are how he draws his viewers emotion and leave them in
suspense (Maher 246). Hitchcock s The Birds is an American horror film dropped in 1963. The film is
loosely based on the 1952 story of Daphne Du Maurier and focuses on a sudden series, unexplained
powerful and violent birds attacking the people of Bodega Bay (Maher 247). In this movie, the fact
that viewers do not get to know the details of the birds makes it an interesting but a suspense film,
which evokes thoughts of the audience to know much about the birds. On the other hand, Identity,
which was directed by James Mangold in 2003, revolves around the life of ten people who seeks
refuge in an isolated motel when a vicious storm breaks out in the desert of Nevada (Falsafi,
Khorashad, and Khorashad 2521). As they seek refuge, a serious murderer, Taylor Vince awaits his
execution for killing a group of motel guests. This paper, using terminology resources and cinematic
techniques, seeks to expatriate the similar technique styles adopted in the two films to enhance

Until a child is at the minimal cognitive level needed to be accurately assessed, there is no value to
taking the assessment. The advantage of this screening tool is that it will not only determine eligibility
to take the alternate assessments, but will also show student growth. One of the disadvantages is that it
will take time and money to hire a team of trained professionals to develop the screening tool, and to
train teachers to administer the screenings on a yearly basis, however it will cut back on the amount of
students who take the assessments year to year which will in turn decrease the amount of teachers who
need alternate assessment training. Option 2: Give parents the ability to opt out. Participation in
alternate assessment takes away from the time a child could be spending on learning the
individualized academic, social, and functional skills needed to be able to function as independently as
an adult. If students with disabilities must be included in the states AYP, and if parents of typical
children have the option to opt out their child, parents of students with significant cognitive

American Slavery American Freedom By Edmond S. Morgan
In his book, American Slavery American Freedom, the author Edmond S. Morgan informs us of the
two strange births of American slavery and American freedom in the new colonial Virginia. In this
read, we saw how the new colonial Virginia experience creates a strange enigma of early colonial
freedom and slavery and how the growth of the two develops hand in hand. The title alone has the
reader presuming the reading is focused primarily on American slavery, but to the contrary, it is not. In
defense, this book does show the injustice of slavery in early America not only towards African
Americans but to the Native Americans as well. But, Edmond s book is long, and in some ways, very
detailed. Morgan seems to delight himself in the telling of distinct specifics and at sometimes one
might find themselves wishing he would not linger so much on all the glorious details. Believable or
not, Morgan s method of approach does have a purpose that readers will find at the end. But, as
lengthy as this book is, the reader will have to be determined to get to the end. Through his detailed
work, Morgan wants to display how society acquires its ugly, harsh and immoral traits through a
gradual and dishonest system. Gradually, event by event and law by law the construction of what
seems to emerge has even readers of the 20th century horrified and appalled. Yet, at that time, society
and it s up bringing appears to be the most logical, and appropriate thing to do. We can first see

Memoirs Of A Geisha By Arthur Golden
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide
to be . The concept behind Emerson s words are evident in the novel Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur
Golden. The main protagonist, Sayuri, demonstrates the way in which her life drastically changed
through self determination rather than assume the path of destiny. Destiny is simply a guideline in
which one follows throughout their life however, the concept of self determination is the detailed
description of which way life will go based on one s individual actions. Sayuri s determination in
pursuance of the love of her life led to a better lifestyle, better sentiment of self worth and self esteem
and an overall sense of happiness.

suitcases of pride and boarded a flight to freedom, which landed in the valley of change . In regards to
the novel surrounding the life of Chiyo who became the famous geisha, Sayuri, the self determination
of creating a better life for herself and pursuing her love interest ultimately added the confidence and
self worth that she had once lacked to ever recognize as a young girl. She describes her upcoming in
the world of geisha as, ...I became aware of all the magnificent silk wrapped about my body, and had
the feeling I might drown in beauty... (Golden, 187). In her journey of becoming a famous geisha,
Chiyo blossomed from the innocent child who knew nothing of the world to Sayuri, the woman with
fair skin and stunning grey blue eyes. Her self determination led to her appearance becoming an
essential part of her goals and ultimately led to a better understanding and appreciation for her gifts of
beauty which also attributed to a better life. However, in the case of the betterment of self esteem and
self worth through self determination, students with disabilities are excellent example of people who
have thrived in gaining self esteem. Through many research projects and analytical summaries of a
school s population based on the disabled and their overall self esteem rating, the more self
determination a student has, the more self esteem they are more likely to exude. ...When acting on the

Cultural Competency And Social Work Practice
The BusinessDictionary.com defines cultural competency as, A set of behaviors, policies, and attitudes
which form a system or agency which allows cross cultural groups to effectively work professionally
in situations. This includes human behaviors, languages, communications, actions, values, religious
beliefs, social groups, and ethic perceptions. Individuals are competent to function on their own and
within an organization where multi cultural situations will be present (2016).
Our communities are composed of various ethnicities which have led to the need to incorporate
cultural competency in state legislation, federal statutes and programs, private sector organization and
academic settings. The Indicators for the Achievement of the NASW Standards for Cultural
Competency in Social Work Practice is the manual that guides the social practice in attaining cultural

Wolof Research Paper
As the African proverb goes, If you want people to understand you, speak their language. Such was
the case for the Wolof tribe when France colonized their native country of Senegal, located on the
northern West coast of Africa, in the early 20th century. Before the French arrived, Senegal had been a
constantly changing domain. The Portuguese, Dutch, British, and French fought back and forth over
outposts such as the small island of Gorée, part of modern day Dakar, Senegal. It was finally returned
to the French by the British in 1815, after the Napoleonic wars, and the French began their expansion
into the mainland (Diallo). However, as the French ventured farther into Africa, they encountered the

The history of the Wolof people can be traced back to the great kingdoms of pre colonial Senegal,
prior to 1946. Kayor and Baol, two of these empires, are often cited as examples of the Wolof
resistance to French colonialism due to the lasting of their culture and language (National African
Language Resource Center). Even after French was deemed the official language, people continued to
use Wolof. Since then, the term Wolofization has been coined to describe its spread. Wolof people
make up about 40% of the nine million Senegalese, representing the largest single ethnic group at
approximately 44.5% in the 2004 census ( Wolof ). In addition, Wolof is spoken as a first or second

The Great Gatsby
Being provided with amusement or enjoyment is important and is essential for being content in life.
Entertainment in general is fascinating; such as movies, television shows, video clips on YouTube,
music, comics and other ridiculous things that people do in this world, not only entertain us but also
teach concepts and morals either directly or indirectly. Books are either entertaining to some or are
just objects that make life stale and boring, but yet these insignificant objects can provide more
entertainment while also allowing cognitive thinking skills and learning universal truths that teach life
lessons. People have different opinions towards books and how to utilize them for the generation of
today and if reading novels is even relevant for students in the future. Although reading a novel
provides the reader a better understanding of its concepts, it is not necessary or important to read an
entire novel to understand the book. Endings of books are usually there to bring the novel to a close
and deliver a life lesson at the end. All of the concepts and themes are in the body of the book and are
well presented depending on the author. In Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the American Dream was
the theme that was presented, and according to the story it is unachievable and just an infant fantasy
that America portrays. While reading the story, the characters views on how their interpretation of the
American Dream, is well established in the middle of the story. There

Homeostatic chemokines are constitutively expressed and regulate tissue specific leukocyte migration

Thanks for signing up for a Resume Review with me. The following are suggestions that I believe you

below:
First off, for skills section, you list some skills that you need to actually provide examples for. Some
of those skills are Active Listening, Reading Comprehension, Critical Thinking, Time Management,
and Judgement and Decision Making. These skills need to be proved rather than listed on your
resume. Prove them through past examples of how you used them to help in a situation.
For your experience as the Director of Resident Affairs, only use bullet points that relate that show the
soft and communication skills you learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grammatically, bullet points don t have periods. Also, start off each bullet point with a past tense verb.
For your experience at COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE HEADSTART, I believe the
title may have a grammar mistake.
One thing that I am noticing is your bullet points sound like there are copied from a job description. I
am not saying they are, but the bullet points don t sound unique in any way. For each of the bullet
points, describe in detail how you did that task and either what you accomplished or what was the
result. For example, for identify and recruit head start eligible families and children, how did you
recruit them, what did you do to find them. Describe more in detail what you did, so you can better
explain and better show what you did that is unique or made something better.
You should remove the accomplishments section. Yes, accomplishments are important, but if you don
t show how those awards can help the employer, than they don t mean much.
Most resumes tend to leave off references, and simply put the line references available upon request.
This is mainly because listing all your references takes up space, but if you would like to keep them
on there, that s

Auden s The Unknown Citizen and Michie s Dooley is a Traitor
Satire is a common literary device used among authors and poets to indirectly criticize the stupidity
and vices of a specific person or group of people. Satirical works typically involve tools of satire, such
as symbolic characters, symbolism, and irony, to simplify the understanding of who this satirical target
is. In The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden and James Michie s Dooley Is a Traitor, symbolic
characters, symbolism, and irony are all used to indirectly criticize the target of each satirical work. In
The Unknown Citizen, Auden is criticizing the way average citizens live their daily life. In this satire,
JS/07/M/378 is dead and is being praised by the state in a eulogy. In a typical eulogy, the deceased
person is praised for doing things that made him or her special. However, in this satire, JS/07/M/378 is
praised for doing everyday activities that are done by many people, such as reading the newspaper or
owning a car. The Unknown Citizen is meant to make the reader realize that he or she should live their
life to the fullest as opposed to leading a dull life consisting of fitting in with everyone else. One way
Auden gets his criticism across is by using symbolic characters and symbolism. JS/07/M/378, the
deceased man for whom the eulogy is written, symbolizes an average citizen. The fact that he is not
addressed with a full name indicates that he must have not been significant when he was alive and that
he was merely a statistic. His factory job at

John Locke s Theory Of Personal Identity In The 2000 Film...
The world of film for many is a wondrous place. It can be a place to escape reality, to relax, to learn,
or to philosophize all we have to do is look. In this case the 2000 film Memento by ... can also act as a
gateway to understanding John Locke s memory theory of personal identity. Locke s theory, in
summary, states that one s identity exists as far back as one can consciously remember. Whether it was
your fourth birthday party or your high school graduation, as far back as you can remember is where
your identity begins. Which is where the dilemma of Leonard Shelby comes into play. Leonard Shelby

However, instead of the photo becoming clearer, the photo fades, just as our own memories fade.
Which leads to the question: are Leonard s memories even reliable? At the end of the film Teddy tells
Leonard that it was actually his wife that was the diabetic, not Sammy Jankis and that he killed his
wife by injecting her with insulin. The film then shows Leonard injecting his wife on the bed, but then
switches quickly back to him pinching her. This could actually be a way of telling the audience that
Leonard is suppressing his memories so that he can create another mystery/puzzle to figure out. He
might not only be suppressing his memories but altering them as well. There is a moment in the film
where Sammy is sitting in a chair in what appears to be a mental institution. For a short moment
Sammy is replaced by Leonard, who is then replaced by Sammy, further proving that Leonard s
memories may not be as reliable as were let on. His story might have instead combined with that of
Sammy s morphing his memories into something he believes. Teddy even touches on this when he
says that Leonards story of Sammy Jankis, Gets better every time you tell it. Which indicates some
alteration of the story. Which brings the question again, who is Leonard? Teddy sums this up very well
at the end of the film when he asks Leonard You don t know who you are...That s who you were. That
s not...what you ve become. If this speculation happens to be true then Leonard Shelby as he once was
before the accident no longer exists. He is now a hybrid between Sammy and his previous self. As
Locke mentioned, so that whatever has the consciousness of present and past actions, is the same
person to whom they both belong (Locke). However Leonard s past actions cannot be confirmed, not
by himself, nor Teddy; the picture is not entirely clear. It doesn t help that Leonard s present actions
memory can only last for so long. A perfect

4.6%. Both economies also experienced a huge fall in FDI Australia s FDI declining 24% from the
previous year and China s declining 36%. The huge economic decline and lack of confidence in both
economies raised the unemployment rate in Australia from 4.6% to 5.4% and 4% to 4.3% in China.

Unspun Advert Analysis
The first technique from the book, Unspun that appears in the following add is eye candy. The
example shown in the add is the image of a nice convertible car in very close proximity to the sun.
This is an example of eye candy because it demonstrates how the advertisers are using the picture to
detract the audience away from what the actual meaning of the advertisement is. If you look into the
details the product is actually for protecting against the suns harmful rays. The advertisers used an
extreme exaggeration of a giant flaming ball of fire very close to the car to make it appear to the
audience that if you use this product your car can survive the toughest conditions. In reality the
product only stands up to a very minimal amount of sun

Effects Of Socioeconomic Status On Middle Childhood Essay
The Effects of Socioeconomic Status from Birth to Middle Childhood Socioeconomic status is the
driving force behind many aspects of life. In this essay I will touch on several ways in which it can
impact areas of development both in the United States and other places around the world. The first
area I would like to look at is Behavior. In the textbook chapter 2 discusses behavior genetics and
heritability. It discusses the relationship between the genetic and the environmental influences using
SES as an example on environment as it relates to intelligence. The book states that some studies find
middle class families to have higher heritability of intelligence not due to different genes than those in
a lower SES but because they have access to greater resources. (Arnett, 2016) Another study used a
Family based training program in lower SES preschoolers. Children from different socioeconomic
status (SES) backgrounds display profound disparities in cognitive skills, brain structure and function,
and academic outcomes (e.g., refs. 1⇓⇓ 4). Because academic disparities associated with SES are
increasing in many societies (5), there is strong motivation to develop and implement training
programs that can narrow these achievement gaps. (Neville, et al., 2013) This study did find that the
children in the Family based program showed significant changes in the reduction of problem
behavior and improvement in their social skills. The implementation of parent or caregiver

They must save the plane from crash landing but first they must have a few laughs along the way.
Airplane is a comical movie that will have you gasping for air. It has more jokes and gaffs than most
movies (Around one every 27 seconds on average). This rapid fire delivery doesn t let you stop to see
how dated most of it is, plus the jokes aren t amazingly funny. You just don t get enough time to catch
your breath before the next joke comes along. This movie is stupidly funny in a way, from the bad
CGI airplane moving in the storm, to the blow up pilot acting as the

What Are The Stereotypes In My Cousin Vinny
My Cousin Vinny (1992) is a perfect way to show Italians in Hollywood movies. It gives the gangster
stereotype, the family sticks together, names that people associate with Italians, and the defensive
attitude. The main characters that are Italian are Billy Gambini, Stan Rothenstein, Vincent LaGuardia
Vinny Gambini, and Mona Lisa Vito. These characters all carry some sort of stereotype that
corresponds with being Italian. Although some have a more dominant presence of the stereotype, it
can still be found during the movie. The movie starts off with two friends driving around in the south.
Everything is open roads/ back roads around a small town in Alabama. Two characters are introduced,
Billy Gambini and Stan Rothenstein. The two boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is often portrayed in films that Italians use their hands to talk . It is normally seen as the person
looking directly at someone and the persons hand is palm up with their fingers all touching each other.
Also during the trial, the judge targets Vinny for not having proper clothing on which Vinny takes it as
a threat to him personally. Vinny does not want his image to be tainted from one person s opinion even
if the person is correct. When this happens, Vinny takes the comment and defends himself and mouths
off to the judge. Also when Vinny first shows up, he is blasting music that could be considered
unnecessary. This is portrayed as Italians being rude. The last example of a stereotype would be when
Vinny says yutes and not youths. It would be considered that Italians take short cuts when saying
things like the classic example of forget about

Sm Mental Health
Hey, are you taking a picture, make sure you tag me in that. Oh did you see my last post last night? We
are the social media (SM) using generation. SM dictates our friendships; it never leaves our side, in
the form of smartphones, text messaging or video calling. Before SM became the first real avenue, in
which people express themselves, people had to resort to face to face communication. Face to face
communication is considered to be the traditional way of human interaction, but with the creation of
SM in the World Wide Web, SM instantaneously throws your ideas out there for the entire world.
According to SM journalist, Emma Stein, SM dependence could be considered a mental issue, since it
is becoming part of our everyday life. To what extent is SM dependence a mental health issue? Are
they really benefiting its users? Many people think so. The development of SM has caused much
controversy. There are people who say that SM can help the youth develop. According to ReachOut
Professionals (ROP) in a recent article, Benefits of Internet and SM, young people can maintain social
connections and also empowers them that otherwise wouldn t be possible without SM. ROP first states
that SM can be used for organizing events to showcase issues, and express opinions, allowing the
youth to become active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Media and Marketing
In today s day and age, many businesses have made use of social media to market their products and
brands. Although nearly all of these organizations share a common goal of gaining publicity, the
strategies they use to attain that goal varies on different and even on the same social media platforms.
In order to gain attention on Facebook, the most popular social media website, companies have to
utilize multiple approaches to maximize their yield from such marketing investments. On Facebook,
companies have set up third party applications to enable fans to participate in competitions to win
rewards. Snapchat, Google+, and Instagram have also been used by along with Facebook to encourage
the participation of customers in spreading the word about certain promotions. Moreover, community
service events and the allocation of beneficial intellectual ideas that can both help the world move
forward have also been made possible by social media websites such as Instagram and LinkedIn.
Third party applications on Facebook have facilitated the process through which companies have
gained awareness for their services. AirAsia, for example, is a low cost Malaysian airline that
launched a Facebook campaign to spread the word about their flights being launched to Australia. The
company offered their Facebook fans the opportunity to be flown to Kuala Lumpa with 302 other
Facebook friends (Taylor). This application became viral and enabled AirAsia to nearly double the
number of daily flights

The Case Against Legalized Gambling Essay
The gambling industry is a big money maker in America. Gambling institutions exist in many states.
These institutions consist of riverboat casinos, Indian reservation casinos, and regular gaming casinos
that all accumulate millions of dollars to the state through taxes. This tax money is then used
throughout the state for many programs that may include education, health, and road maintenance.
The American Gaming Association (AGA) even claims that gambling institutions lower the taxes in
many areas because of the large tax money they give the government (CQ 784). But does the
gambling industry only help and build the economy and attract money from the public? Perhaps the
gambling industry increases more than just government funds. Is it ... Show more content on

The issues of crime and compulsive gambling go hand in hand. It is not just an issue that could exist,
but indeed it does exist. In Maryland alone in 1990, there were at least 50,000 compulsive gamblers
(CQ 782). Doctor Valerie C. Lorenz, Executive Director of the Compulsive Gambling Center, has
done several studies on compulsive gambling, and has given several statistics which show how
compulsive gambling is closely related to crime. Her studies show that 99 percent of compulsive
gamblers commit crimes, 25 percent end up in the legal system for bad checks, forgery, fraud,
embezzlement from job, theft, bank robbery, selling drugs, street crime, and prostitution etc..., and 100
percent of compulsive gamblers become physically abusive, especially towards children (Kindt).
These facts clearly show that compulsive gamblers suffer legal and financial problems which drive
them to commit crimes. The American Gaming Industry disagrees with the idea that there are a
significant number of compulsive gamblers. They believe that the vast majority of Americans are
social gamblers who can participate in gambling activities without harmful effects (CQ 784). This
statement may be true. Doctor Lorenz did indeed state that only 1 1/2 to 3 percent of the population in
a state with two or more forms of legalized gambling will become compulsive gamblers, but as was
already stated above there are 50,000 compulsive gamblers in Maryland (http). That high number of

Elie Wiesel Diary Entries
Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an
emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in the
concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months (having
been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire family my mother, father, and sister
managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed wire with
me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only survived because
you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think I would be able to find
you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just want to know a few things.
How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have known about them previously
(since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have shocked you. What did you think of gas
chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of deceased Jews? I still remember them; their
memory bothers me no longer, though. I have not healed... one does not heal after seeing those things.

smiled, too. Why did you give me your only piece of chocolate? I know I looked horrendous, with ribs
and elbows jutting from my tight frame of skin... but you did hesitate. What caused that hesitation?
You and your fellow soldiers pitied us Jews, and we were rarely fed, so you must have known that too
much food would have made me ill. It was just chocolate. Finally, are you still haunted by the visions
of the concentration camps? The bodies dumped into mass graves, the barracks full of poor sick and
dying souls, the ashes of the ones already lost... do these things still haunt you? These scars do not
heal. I have not healed, so I suspect you have not,

The parents would because,it is their fault for piercing the infants ear at such an early age.It is like
physically beating them. Some people have much to say about this problem. Many people have
reached out on this issue to voice their opinions. It is severe pain inflicted upon infants
unnecessarily;it serves no purpose other than to satisfy the parents vanity. (Tami,2015).She is right

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is particularly true for industrial goods, on which tariffs have fallen from around 40% at the end of World War II to a tenth of that today. Nevertheless, tariffs continue to influence trade patterns. By making products more expensive to consumers, tariffs hamper demand for imports. They also alter the relative prices of products, and can protect uncompetitive companies and their overpriced products. These distortions are particularly pronounced in many non OECD countries where tariffs remain substantially higher than in the OECD area. Tariffs on agricultural products are on average much higher than those on industrial products, although there is considerable diversity from country to country. Moreover, tariffs may be coupled with quotas whereby a country sets a tariff of, say, 10% on the first 10 000 units of imported grain (called the tariff rate quota, or TRQ) but increases it to 100% on any additional grain imports (called the above quota tariff). One OECD study found that such tariffs on agriculture products were equivalent, on average, to a straight tariff of 36% for OECD countries and 63% for selected non OECD countries, compared with agricultural tariffs of 15% in OECD countries and 43% in non OECD countries. Even when tariffs have been reduced, the way they are structured continues to pose problems in both agriculture and industry. Problems exist

  • 5. Contract law is defined as lawfully enforceable agreement between two or more people to a contract. An agreement also known as a promise consists of an offer and an acceptance. An offer is defined as indication of the terms upon which an individual is ready to be obligated. On the other hand, an acceptance is the agreement of the terms that have been offered. The parties associated with the agreement are known as an offeror or an offeree. The offeror is the one who makes the offer, and the offeree is the one accepts the offer (Curtin College 2014). For an offer to be satisfied, there are rules to be considered. The offer has to be complete, promissory, intention to undergo a contract when accepted, and focused on an individual or a group. • 6. Westward Expansion In The West The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences such as land, and the individualist mindset remain the same today. Also, a lot of ways the frontier land today is isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism and individualism in the United States. As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, the frontier experience converted settlers into individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands of the West. The ample amount of resources and the greater social mobility of frontier areas instilled a form of individualism in American frontiersman. This is similar to the individualism present today, for instance in politics and other government affairs, people dislike of governmental interference in their affairs, similar to the people that had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less governmental interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar environment, as travelers adapted and devised new techniques and objects to cope with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in Americans being able to adapt to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front. In many rural areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement is still evident today, especially in the state we live in. Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of Indian and the march of manifest destiny that made America great and special, this is still evident today in society. For instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines were on Native American tribal land, yet we as Americans used the power of authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit of America. That was the notion in the past, and still is the notion today, Native Americans were not considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we had. The representation of the West showcased triumph of civilization over savagery. Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly essays were written that stated moving west separated Americans from their European roots, those who were from there. This is evident today as well, ... • 7. Terrorist Motivation Motivation for Terrorist Acts All terrorism is meant to accomplish one thing. What has been popularly called an act of terror is so termed because the perpetrators hope that they can affect the manner in which people perceive their safety and the government that is supposed to be protecting them. With this goal in mind, every act that can be called terrorist in origin wants to have a psychological component. The success or failure of the attempt can, in one way, be seen as effective depending on the news coverage of that event and the way that electronic and print news outlets view it. Recently, a terrorist plot in Indonesia was thwarted which could have done severe damage to the property and lives of foreign nationals in the region. The plot, which was against a variety of Western targets, was designed to create the maximum amount of chaos during a small period of time. It will be argued in this paper that even though the plot was stopped by the Indonesian army and police, it was a success in creating the desired psychological effect, and that other similarly foiled plots have also been successful. Taking the second argument first, the Twin Towers in New York were not bombed just one time. In the early 1990 s they were subject to a relatively small explosion (relative to what happened in 2001) with a larger plot doused by police. Unfortunately for the terrorist group, their larger plan did not work, but it caused a panic among many people who wondered if the US was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The New Use of Information Technology in the Operating Room The new use of information technology in the operating room: The future of telemedicine in the OR for patients in underserved areas Information technology has become a critical component of all facets of healthcare and has taken on increased prominence in operating rooms as well as in other components of care such as diagnosis and screening. No longer mainly used for improved electronic record keeping (although this is one of its strengths), information technology is changing the healthcare system in profound ways. The gap between information technology and clinical technology has been getting smaller and more and more functions of IT are now part and parcel of ordinary surgical procedures (Lockridge 2013). For example, while x rays and MRIs are historically a clinical technology but now they re being captured digitally and used in electronic medical records and for image guided surgery, bringing them into the realm of information technology (Lockridge 2013). One of the most up and coming fields featuring new technology is that of telemedicine or remote medical technology: once it was mainly relegated to consultation, now it has also been applied in the operating room. The use of telemedicine to break the isolation of the operating room is a highly achievable goal. An open operating room has information on demand for the personnel, fluid communication among operating room personnel, and broad interaction with the learner community and consultants. Therefore, until the equipment and weapon arsenal have reached a complete state of improvement, the Russian military will continue to fall behind the rest of the World Super Powers. The state of the Russian economy does not make the situation any better. Oil makes up two thirds of the total exports from Russia, despite multiple discussions to diversify resource reliance (David, 2017). The global financial crisis of 2009, coupled with falling oil prices, international sanctions, and structural limitations pushed Russia into a deep recession in 2015, with the GDP falling by close to 4%. (CIA World Factbook, 2017). The contracting economy continues into 2016, with the GDP falling another 0.6%, expecting to fall by another 5% in 2017 if oil continues below $40 per barrel. Without an immediate negotiation to either lift trade sanctions or find an alternative resource dependence, the economic decline will continue. Trade sanctions emplaced after the Crimea incident in 2014 were implemented by the European Union (EU) and the United States to target the Russian financial, energy, and defense sectors (Lee, 2016). The continued devaluation of the Russian ruble multiplied the effect of strain on the fledgling nation. Currency values fell approximately 50% since the middle of 2014; in turn, making it more expensive for Russia to import from other countries. The future of Russia s economy is uncertain. The story is an intriguing tale that I would argue explicates and profoundly depicts the different dynamics associated with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and all the corresponding tendencies that exacerbate the anxiety. The main character, Mr. Melvin Udall s behavior and actions speaks volume about the debilitating effects of the disorder. He seems to constantly have unwanted and intrusive thoughts that can t seems to get out of head, making him obsessed with it, Example the constant irrational worry about dirt at home, in the restaurant, on the streets so as to not come in contact with germ, virus or disease, and excessive concerns with order, arrangement, or symmetry, as well as Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others a distasteful religious and sexual thoughts or images. The anxiety that is developed as a result of the above tendencies that compels him throughout to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and arrangements, such as cleaning, repeatedly washing of his hands and one occasion bathing for hours, while Helen, the waitress waited for him to go a date, clearing demonstrating the compulsion that is too often difficult to control, even though it appears irrational. The bourgeois conception seems speculative of this discursive authority. She defends that the effect of public opinion is greater if it can affect decisions made by the state. But, the notion of We instead of I does not necessarily reinforce the dominant opinion regarding a subject and subjugate the subaltern public. It might be pertinent to use the we to make the shared aims prominent. It evokes a shared social identity. In The Snake Brothers, the main theme is not listening to directions. one of the life lessons to be learned is to listen to directions. The characters were four brothers all of whom were hunting for game in order to survive. They happen to come across a buffalo who promised them it s meat but with the offer came a direction. The older brothers disregarded the directions and only took the meat while the youngest brother took on the buffalo s directions. He is particularly famous for the cinematic adaptations of two major works within English Literature; that is, Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Ian McEwan s Atonement (2001). In the following essay, I shall discuss the interrelationships that can be found between the two, with a special focus on the central motifs, the audio visuals, the cast and crew and lastly, the angle taken by Wright himself on his own cinematic production. In Pride and Prejudice, the couple has to hurdle both Darcy s pride and Elizabeth s derisive prejudice towards him so that they fulfil their love. The Working For A Major Cola Company We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working for a major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and then more importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous experiments. Our main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move forward in finding anything out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After looking at the machine and doing research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be able to get values of both absorbance and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to give these values by shining a light beam through a solution and measuring the intensity before and after it has passed through the solution.1 After doing research we were able to put the machine to use in order to get first hand experience of how to use the machine and to get an understanding of the relationships between results present by the spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group choose the colors red and blue. The famous Star Wars franchised space opera films are probably the most widely known space film in the history of famous space films. Hersey and Blanchard argue that the maturity of followers is task specific. They focus their model on two types of maturity job maturity and psychological maturity. The works at the NCOA tend to be experienced people with many years on the job, and also having worked in other organizations for long tenures as well. This gives them a high level of job maturity and psychological maturity as well. In an organization that is characterized by high maturity of followers and a high relationship orientation, the management style is usually supporting, which is a fairly accurate description of the NCOA. New workers tend to receive more coaching, but the experienced workers seldom require more than support for their tasks. 3. Walter Williams Journalism Creed Walter Williams, the founder of the University of Missouri s Journalism School, believed that unless journalists were trained as professionals, they would never earn the public s trust. Journalists needed to be held accountable professionally and personally in order for the profession to endure. In 1914, Williams wrote the Journalist s creed. The creed was an affirmation of the ethics of journalism. Although the creed still is the clearest definition of the principles, standards, and values of journalists, the world is changing, and that includes journalism. Taking a Look at Home Schooling Home schooling is a type of education that takes place in the home; it can be defined as parents or a small group of students from a community studying an academic curriculum at home or any confined place either for personal reasons or any other purpose. It has been a controversial choice for education and has been opposed by many in the past since the early twentieth century as it was illegal in most states. Home schooling topic which was not even considered earlier is now being regarded salient as we can observe the drastic change from 19th century to now, Ray s studies shows that, A dramatic change began around the late 1970s, one that resulted in slightly more than 2 million home schooled students in grades K to 12 in the United States during the spring of 2010 (324) also, Between 1999 and 2007, homes schoolers in the United States increased by an estimated 74 percent twelve times the rate of public school growth and now likely number more than two million altogether (Kunzman 76) but Johnson has given the statistics in another perspective as Early home schoolers joined together to win favourable legislative and judicial outcomes that resulted in the legalization of home schooling in all 50 states by the early 1990s (298). Morgan informs us of the two strange births of American slavery and American freedom in the new colonial Virginia. In this read, we saw how the new colonial Virginia experience creates a strange enigma of early colonial freedom and slavery and how the growth of the two develops hand in hand. The title alone has the reader presuming the reading is focused primarily on American slavery, but to the contrary, it is not. In defense, this book does show the injustice of slavery in early America not only towards African Americans but to the Native Americans as well. But, Edmond s book is long, and in some ways, very detailed. Morgan seems to delight himself in the telling of distinct specifics and at sometimes one might find themselves wishing he would not linger so much on all the glorious details. Believable or not, Morgan s method of approach does have a purpose that readers will find at the end. But, as lengthy as this book is, the reader will have to be determined to get to the end. Through his detailed work, Morgan wants to display how society acquires its ugly, harsh and immoral traits through a gradual and dishonest system. Gradually, event by event and law by law the construction of what seems to emerge has even readers of the 20th century horrified and appalled. Yet, at that time, society and it s up bringing appears to be the most logical, and appropriate thing to do. We can first see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Auden and James Michie s Dooley Is a Traitor, symbolic characters, symbolism, and irony are all used to indirectly criticize the target of each satirical work. In The Unknown Citizen, Auden is criticizing the way average citizens live their daily life. In this satire, JS/07/M/378 is dead and is being praised by the state in a eulogy. In a typical eulogy, the deceased person is praised for doing things that made him or her special. The film then shows Leonard injecting his wife on the bed, but then switches quickly back to him pinching her. This could actually be a way of telling the audience that Leonard is suppressing his memories so that he can create another mystery/puzzle to figure out. He might not only be suppressing his memories but altering them as well. There is a moment in the film where Sammy is sitting in a chair in what appears to be a mental institution. For a short moment Sammy is replaced by Leonard, who is then replaced by Sammy, further proving that Leonard s memories may not be as reliable as were let on. His story might have instead combined with that of Sammy s morphing his memories into something he believes. Teddy even touches on this when he says that Leonards story of Sammy Jankis, Gets better every time you tell it. Which indicates some alteration of the story. In this essay I will touch on several ways in which it can impact areas of development both in the United States and other places around the world. The first area I would like to look at is Behavior. In the textbook chapter 2 discusses behavior genetics and heritability. It discusses the relationship between the genetic and the environmental influences using SES as an example on environment as it relates to intelligence. The book states that some studies find middle class families to have higher heritability of intelligence not due to different genes than those in a lower SES but because they have access to greater resources. (Arnett, 2016) Another study used a Family based training program in lower SES preschoolers. Children from different socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds display profound disparities in cognitive skills, brain structure and function, and academic outcomes (e.g., refs. 1⇓⇓ 4). Because academic disparities associated with SES are increasing in many societies (5), there is strong motivation to develop and implement training programs that can narrow these achievement gaps. It gives the gangster stereotype, the family sticks together, names that people associate with Italians, and the defensive attitude. The main characters that are Italian are Billy Gambini, Stan Rothenstein, Vincent LaGuardia Vinny Gambini, and Mona Lisa Vito. These characters all carry some sort of stereotype that corresponds with being Italian. Although some have a more dominant presence of the stereotype, it can still be found during the movie. It is normally seen as the person looking directly at someone and the persons hand is palm up with their fingers all touching each other. Also during the trial, the judge targets Vinny for not having proper clothing on which Vinny takes it as a threat to him personally. Vinny does not want his image to be tainted from one person s opinion even if the person is correct. When this happens, Vinny takes the comment and defends himself and mouths off to the judge. Also when Vinny first shows up, he is blasting music that could be considered unnecessary. This is portrayed as Italians being rude. SM dictates our friendships; it never leaves our side, in the form of smartphones, text messaging or video calling. Before SM became the first real avenue, in which people express themselves, people had to resort to face to face communication. Face to face communication is considered to be the traditional way of human interaction, but with the creation of SM in the World Wide Web, SM instantaneously throws your ideas out there for the entire world. According to SM journalist, Emma Stein, SM dependence could be considered a mental issue, since it is becoming part of our everyday life. To what extent is SM dependence a mental health issue? • 49. Social Media and Marketing In today s day and age, many businesses have made use of social media to market their products and brands. Although nearly all of these organizations share a common goal of gaining publicity, the strategies they use to attain that goal varies on different and even on the same social media platforms. In order to gain attention on Facebook, the most popular social media website, companies have to utilize multiple approaches to maximize their yield from such marketing investments. On Facebook, companies have set up third party applications to enable fans to participate in competitions to win rewards. Snapchat, Google+, and Instagram have also been used by along with Facebook to encourage the participation of customers in spreading the word about certain promotions. Moreover, community service events and the allocation of beneficial intellectual ideas that can both help the world move forward have also been made possible by social media websites such as Instagram and LinkedIn. Third party applications on Facebook have facilitated the process through which companies have gained awareness for their services. • 50. The Case Against Legalized Gambling Essay The gambling industry is a big money maker in America. Gambling institutions exist in many states. These institutions consist of riverboat casinos, Indian reservation casinos, and regular gaming casinos that all accumulate millions of dollars to the state through taxes. This tax money is then used throughout the state for many programs that may include education, health, and road maintenance. The American Gaming Association (AGA) even claims that gambling institutions lower the taxes in many areas because of the large tax money they give the government (CQ 784). But does the gambling industry only help and build the economy and attract money from the public? Perhaps the gambling industry increases more than just government funds. Is it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issues of crime and compulsive gambling go hand in hand. It is not just an issue that could exist, but indeed it does exist. In Maryland alone in 1990, there were at least 50,000 compulsive gamblers (CQ 782). Doctor Valerie C. Lorenz, Executive Director of the Compulsive Gambling Center, has done several studies on compulsive gambling, and has given several statistics which show how compulsive gambling is closely related to crime. Her studies show that 99 percent of compulsive gamblers commit crimes, 25 percent end up in the legal system for bad checks, forgery, fraud, embezzlement from job, theft, bank robbery, selling drugs, street crime, and prostitution etc..., and 100 percent of compulsive gamblers become physically abusive, especially towards children (Kindt). These facts clearly show that compulsive gamblers suffer legal and financial problems which drive them to commit crimes. The American Gaming Industry disagrees with the idea that there are a significant number of compulsive gamblers. They believe that the vast majority of Americans are social gamblers who can participate in gambling activities without harmful effects (CQ 784). This statement may be true. Doctor Lorenz did indeed state that only 1 1/2 to 3 percent of the population in a state with two or more forms of legalized gambling will become compulsive gamblers, but as was already stated above there are 50,000 compulsive gamblers in Maryland (http). • 52. Elie Wiesel Diary Entries Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in the concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months (having been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire family my mother, father, and sister managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed wire with me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only survived because you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think I would be able to find you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just want to know a few things. How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have known about them previously (since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have shocked you. What did you think of gas chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of deceased Jews? I still remember them; their memory bothers me no longer, though. You and your fellow soldiers pitied us Jews, and we were rarely fed, so you must have known that too much food would have made me ill. It was just chocolate. Finally, are you still haunted by the visions of the concentration camps?
