1. Colours used : Blue , White ,Yellow, Pink.
What they connote :
Yellow- Joyful , Happy ,warm,
Blue : Peaceful , stability ,confidence
White : freshness , hope , goodness , coolness
Pink : Compassion , sensitivity , beauty
Genre : Music (club anthems , House , Party music)
The blue denotes the idea that it is a masculine colour and represent the artists advertised
as sincere and peaceful. This also links with the setting being a beach as a beach is
seemingly a peaceful place and may be where they want their target audience to be at a
beach whilst enjoying their music. The idea of yellow meaning joyful and happiness could
link with the music genre targeted as it’s played and shared in happy environments like clubs
, parties etc,Blue is also a very confident colour which is shown through their facial
expressions.
The fonts used are very simplistic and straightforward which could represent the music
genre this provides as it is seen as very simply without many meaningful lyrics and deeper
meaning behind it .The language is also very repetitive as is repeats the same phrases such
as “dance””clubs” .There also isn't much text it is mainly focused on festivals and artists as
well as rhetorical questions.
All of the above relate to their target audience which is presumably people who have access
to festivals and clubs ranging from 18-26 , people particularly in their party phase .The
simplistic ideas help with the idea that they might not want to read a lot of writing and rather
hear about recent festivals and concerts they can attend
They are both staring at the
audience which is an eye
catching effect and will drew
the attention of someone
browsing magazines in a
shop
2. Black-Power , Mystery , formality
White-hope goodness light cleanliness
Grey-Stability , security , strength of character
Black is an ongoing colour used on this cover , this links with the idea of
Kerrang publish rock and alternative artists which are usually associated with
darker colours such as black and grey. The mood of this cover is very serious
as the whole band looks the audience in the eye using direct address this
could link with the seriousness of the band's music and whole look they are
given. The color white used on the cover outlines and helps certain parts such
as the masthead to pop out and be noticeable. There isn't much font on the
page but the font that is covering it is in white bold writing outlined by a darker
colour. The main language use is again simply as it just titles bands and
artists names as they are the main focus of the magazine a whole.Kerrangs
aimed contents is targeted at people who listen to indie and rock music and
fans that enjoy to read into more about their favourite artists the age rate
being from around 14 years old to 24 years old . It has a sense of immaturity
do to the un seriousness of the magazine's logo font unlike a magazine like Q
that would have more text and a serious theme and point to the cover
whereas kerrang is repetitive. The use young artists who are appealing to the
time the issue is sent out for example this cover was published when panic at
the disco where extremely popular pulling in a larger audience for the
magazine
Posters are more popular
among teenagers as well as
freebies inside a magazine
