Audience Analysis Survey
Monkey
Rebecca Howard
100% of my respondents said that
they were aged 16-19.
Asking the audience their ages
was very important as pop music
videos are meant to be aimed at
young adults and teenagers.
The majority (95%) of my
respondents claimed to go to music
festivals/concerts. Only one person
anonymously said that they don’t
go to music festivals.
The majority of my target audience
said that they preferred upbeat
songs in comparison to slow-paced
songs. This will make it easier for
me to choose a pop song for the
music video.
50% of my respondents said
that they preferred to listen
to male artists, 40% said
bands and only 10% said
female artists.
After collating all the responses to this question, I did some background search
on each of the individual artists and their genre in music. Luckily, the majority
of these artists mentioned below are involved in some form of pop music
genre. These include: Little Mix, Post Malone and Shawn Mendes.
The majority of my targeted audience have said
they watch music videos at least once a month.
However, 20% claimed to never really watch any
music videos.
100% of my respondents said that they use YouTube to
watch music videos. Which in someway contradicts the 20%
who claimed to never watch music videos.
The majority of my target audience
responded saying that they prefer
music videos to be conceptual instead
of being narrative and performance
based.
Here, there is a variety of music genres and video styles,
with a mix of Pop, RnB and Soulful music with either a
narrative, conceptual or performance based music video.
Only one person said that they could not pick a favourite
music video.
50% said yes and 50% said no to this
question. This question is based on
personal preferences, an artist to be
present in a music video will enhance
their popularity and identity to their
targeted audience. For my music video, I
have already decided to include my artist
in the music video to add a more
personalised touch to the product and
create an image for the ‘singers’.
Conclusion
Overall, 100% of my respondents were teenagers. 80% of them watch
music videos frequently on YouTube. The majority of my respondents
say that they prefer to listen to male artists in comparison to bands and
female artists. However, to be controversial and shatter the
expectations of my respondents, I am tempted to make my music video
have 2 female singers (a female duet). Approximately 45% of my target
audience prefer conceptual music videos and 50% of my target
audience say that artists being featured in their own music videos is
not important.
