Up Helly Aa Fire Festival is a famous festival in Scotland. It takes place in
Lerwick, which is a big port of the Shetland Islands, every year on the last
Tuesday of January. People of Lerwick make a 30-foot model of a Viking ship
with a dragon on the nose. Local people dress as Vikings and walk along the
streets of Lerwick with torches. Some people carry a Viking longship through
the streets of Lerwick to the edge of the town where about 1000 people circle
around it, sing the traditional Up Helly Aa song and throw their flaming
torches into the galley. After that people dance and have a lot of fun.
Pingxi Sky Lantern festival takes place every year in Taipei County, Taiwan,
China. The festival is the most important lantern festival in Taiwan and the
second biggest New Year's Eve celebration in the world. During the celebration
people launch from 100, 000 to 200,000 lanterns. Lanterns are lights with
candles inside that people can carry. People write their wishes on their lanterns.
They believe that the wishes go to heaven and bring luck in the New Year.

People also set off fireworks and watch performances and carnivals in the
streets.
The Desert Festival is a colourful cultural event in the beautiful golden desert
city of Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan, India. The festival takes place every
February and lasts three days. There are a lot of different activities. People ride
camels, decorate them and play camel polo. There is also the longest mustache
competition and judges choose Mr. Desert. There are parades, puppet shows,
and concerts of folk music and fireworks displays. The festival comes to an end
on the third day that corresponds with Poornima (meaning the full moon). The
people of Rajasthan wear colourful clothes, sing and dance to ballads of
heroism, and romance.
People remember the events which happened many years ago.
