Unites States searches for a diplomatic solution with the help of its allies in the area, the U.S. military

that finally needs to be solved calling for heavier sanctions against the country. In an article by Joshua

Mixing Energy Drinks
People are innately curious beings and experimentation plays a huge part in that curiosity. With that
experimenting comes new and sometimes dangerous trends which seem to take over society and
become a part of the norm. These trends can include everything from the clothes you wear to the
activities you do. One trend that has been particularly troubling has been mixing energy drinks with
alcohol. I remember when energy drinks became popular. You saw your peers drinking them and even
celebrities were photographed drinking them. They became the cool thing to drink and before you
knew it bartenders were serving these drinks at bars and restaurants. The combination of those two
types of drinks which cause opposing effects on the body with one being an upper and the other a
downer (look up) can have dire consequences on your body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to the Time article (2015) people who consume alcohol mixed with an energy drink will
have more alcoholic beverages than they normally would have had they just drank alcohol alone.
Another issue is that this mixed drink can alter a person s decision making while under the influence.
The Time article states (2015) that the mixed drink makes the person feel as though they aren t as
drunk as they actually are and as a result they are more likely to engage in dangerous activities such as
getting behind the wheel of a car or participate in risky sexual behavior. The CDC (20105) reports that
drinkers who mix the two are twice as likely to report being taken advantage of sexually or to report
taking advantage of someone sexually. A third issue it the possible association between mixing alcohol
with an energy drink and brain damage. Lastly, according to the CDC (2015) people who consume
alcohol mixed with energy drinks are 3 times more likely to engage in binge

Iceberg Theory In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The novel of the Lord of the Flies by William Golding takes place on a island in the pacific. These
british schoolboys are stranded on a deserted island with no adults. Here we can see Freud s iceberg
theory in the book. In short definition, the iceberg theory according to Sigmund Freud, a personality
consists of the id, ego, and superego. These three parts work together to create a complete personality.
The superego is the social component and is your conscience. The id is your instinct, while the ego is
your conscious decisions. This theory has deep roots with main characters Simon, Ralph, and Piggy.
Jack as the Id The id is A reservoir of unconscious psychic energy that constantly strives to satisfy
basic drives to survive, reproduce, and aggress. Id operates on the pleasure principle. With Jack as the
id of the island, his actions are the mostly driven by animalistic needs to hunt for pigs. In discovering
the thrill of the hunt, his pleasure drive is emphasized, which is implied by Freud that can show the
basic human need to be satisfied. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Banking And The Banking System
ABSTRACT Banking has been developing drastically over the years, whether it s related to the
banking system or way individuals can withdraw or spend money. This has created a great leap in
banking crime. However there s a scare knowledge of the public s understanding of this. Data was
collected through a questionnaire and analysed using a chi squared analysis. Through student and
nonstudent participants sampling approach no significant differences were observed between group
understandings of new banking crimes and found that they had identical ranking of responses.
Additionally using an approach by Schuman and Scott (1987), half the participants were asked open
questions and the other closed questions, this also highlighted the impact of question form on ranking
of responses and showed no definate ordering of response choices could be made. Key words:
Banking crimes, public understanding, questionnaire, chi squared analysis 1.Introduction The banking
system and ways that people can withdraw and/or spend their money has changed over the years and
continues to do so. People originally made payments with physical money which moved onto credit
cards, debit cards and contactless cards (Lambert, 2011). From 1971 electronic commerce appeared
which brought along digital wallets like Paypal (van Ketel and Nelson, 2005).The banking system,

Using this layout strategy will directly improve workflow by minimizing the imbalance between
machines and personnel while meeting the required output. Additionally, assembly line will put
fabricated parts together at a series of workstations to create a smooth continuing flow on the
assembly line with little idle time at each workstation. (Heizer, 2010). In order to be able to produce at
a specified rate, we must be aware of the tools, processes and equipment being used.
By inputting the information into the layout strategies method, I conclude that SSPF can eliminate 3 of
their workstations. Therefore, it will be 92% efficient with 50 minutes of time allocated, 4 minutes of
idle time, and 10 minutes of maximum cycle time.
A1) Justification
The learning curve was chosen because of the strategic importance that is placed on a learning curve.
The learning curve is applied to assist in the development of strategic decisions on levels of

Analysis Of The Fiedler Contingency Theory On Leadership
Question 1:
As a leader, the Fiedler contingency theory could be used to manage employees by placing the most
suitable leader with his or her given style for the specific situation. Fiedler believed that leaders were
incapable of changing their style of leadership to adapt to the situation. So instead, it is suggested that
the situation or rather the leader replaced to match the specific situation. To optimize the favorability
of a leadership situation, three components must first be taken into account: leader member relations,
task structure and positional power of the leader. The optimal leader member relations have a good
relationship between themselves (the leaders) and the followers. A good task structure possesses
standard procedures which are in place to complete the tasks. And finally, the strong positional power
refers to a leader having authority to evaluate performance and administer rewards or punishments. In
contrast, the Hersey and Blanchard s situational theory on leadership relied on leaders were capable of
being flexible with their range of skills to adapt their behavior to the maturity of their followers. It is
comprised of three components: the amount of task related behaviors a leader displays, the amount of
relationship related behaviors a leader displays, and the level of maturity of the followers to perform a
specific task. The first and second components are similar to that of the leader member relations and
task structure from the Fiedler contingency model. Whereas, the maturity of the employees given the
specific tasks can vary depending on the individual follower. Someone with a high maturity indicates
self confidence and the ability to perform the task, and low maturity indicates a lack of ability and self
confidence. Therefore, leaders should assess each of their employees for their varying levels of self
confidence and ability to perform the task. Then they can tailor their response to the individual
employee depending on the four levels of maturity that they display: guide, direct, delegate and
support.
Question 2: As a leader, what form of power would you attempt to use on a consistent basis to manage
your employees and why would you choose this form of power? As a leader, I

Pictori philosopho (Blunt, 3), Painter philosopher was a name given to Nicolas Poussin by Serous d

to the German artist Anton Raphael Mengas.
Nicolas Poussin was born in 1594 in the town of Les Andelys on the Seine. He came from a nobel
family that was ruined by religious wars according to Giovanni Pietro Bellori. No actual proof of this

Poussin arrived at his destination in March of 1624. During his journey he made a short stop in
Venice. In Rome Poussin met painter Marcello Sacchetti on of the active patrons of the arts in Rome.
During his first couple of years in Rome Poussin stayed in various homes. In 1629 he took shelter with
Jacques Dughet, a French cook, and his family. Jacques and his family took care of Poussin when he
suffered from what is called mal di Francia. (Blunt, 55) After several years were spent recovering from
his illness Jacques gave his daughter Anne Marie to Poussin in marriage. The ceremony toke place on

Poussin that in the later years of his life he took the name of his great teacher Gaspard Poussin.
During this time Poussin kept company with many painters who he was to keep a close friend ship for

The Battle of Rsebud Creek Essay
Introduction
The Indians that had fought General Custer had actually fought a battle against an even larger
American Army Force only 10 days earlier. In mid June of 1876 General George Crook and
approximately 1325 American soldiers, packers, miners and Indian allies moved north1. The intent
was to get contingents of the Cheyenne, Sioux and Arapaho to move to reservations.
History
Gold had been discovered in the Black Hills of the Dakotas, and the American military intended to
take it by force after a failed treaty negotiation. Crook had moved north from Fort Fetterman camp
near present day Douglas Wyoming area, along rosebud creek, north into Montana territory. Crook s
column was 1 of 3 sent out in the summer of 1876 to try and get ... Show more content on

4 During the move to the north it was discovered that the notorious character Calamity Jane had
accidentally been employed as one of the wagon teamsters, being a female, she was not allowed in the
column. However this brought a much needed division of attention from the monotone march. On
June 9th 1876, an unknown amount of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians attacked General Crooks camp.
The skirmish was remarkably short, Crook having sent a battalion of Cavalry to quickly dispatch the
Indians that had taken high ground on them, and were firing down into the camp. Along the way the
column received the Shoshone and Crow allies which only numbered approximately 170, but was
regarded as having the strength of an entire regiment.5
Execution/Action
On June 17, 1876 Crook and his column rose at 3am and set out at 6 am. John F. Finerty gives an
account of the surroundings: At about 8 o clock, we halted in a valley, very similar in the formation to
the one in which we had pitched our camp the preceding night. Rosebud stream, indicated by the thick
growth of wild roses, or sweet briar, from which its name is derived, flowed sluggishly through it,
dividing it from south to north into two almost equal parts. The hills seem to rise on every side, and
we were within easy musket shot of those most remote. 6 General Crook then paused his command for
an early lunch in the Rosebud

The And Human Impact On Society
Time to Change Where to Start?
Financial reporting alone does not take into consideration the social, economic, and environmental
responsibilities of a business. On the other hand, financial reporting along with sustainability reporting
interconnects these responsibilities, and offers more comprehensive information about the financial
and human impact on society. Sustainability reporting discloses other relevant information about a
company that financial reporting lacks. Currently, laws and regulations are not designed with policies
and procedures to accommodate sustainability reporting. In order for companies to mitigate their risks
and environmental impact, as well as provide reliable reports, a mandatory sustainability report is ...

This more modern view of corporations is needed to level the playing field and facilitate stakeholders
confidence in businesses.
Success Stories
The sustainability reporting concept may still be new to a certain extent in the US. By contrast,
stakeholders have always demanded more transparency on financial reporting. Many countries in
Europe, Africa, and Asia have successfully adopted sustainability reporting as part of their corporate
governance. Interestingly, the US has lagged in fully embracing it. Companies that have opted to
integrate sustainability reporting have a distinct competitive advantage over those that only disclose its
financial position. Overtime, sustainability reporting contributes to the reduction of liabilities,
improves business performance, and adds value to society in general.
Some companies may think that sustainability reporting could have a negative impact in their
business. However, many businesses around the world are looking at it in the opposite manner. An
example is Johnson Johnson, a public traded company headquartered in New Brunswick, NJ. The
article A Model for Sustainability Reporting, issued by IMA in 2010, states that Johnson Johnson
began issuing formal sustainability reports in 1993 for which it has received widespread praise over
the years (Borkowski, Welsh, Wentzel, p. 30). Johnson Johnson is one of the top companies in the
United States to fully adopt sustainability, corporate social

Components Of Most Influential Components
We identified the affected components of most influential components in both type of perturbations.
We combined all the four environmental conditions to construct the network of the most influential
components with downstream targets. On these networks we mapped druggable proteins and cancer
associated genes. Under inactivating perturbations, we obtained the network of PI3K, EGFR, PP2A,
GRK and CaM (Figure 7A). Under activating perturbations, we obtained the network of influential
components i.e. EGFR, IL1_TNFR, ERK, SHP2, RKIP, Ras, Gbg_i, Fak, Integrins, and PP2A (Figure
7B).
The ranking of these components based on number of affected components is shown in Table 4. We
observed that the EGFR is affecting most number of components under activating as well as
inactivating perturbations. Interestingly, EGFR is a validated drug target for cancer [34].
The other influential components such as PI3K, ERK, and Ras have been previously explored in
multiple cancer types. However, the influential components consist of the most important drug
candidates that block cell proliferation in cancer cells. Some of these components have been
associated with the drug resistance. For example, in non small cell lung cancer, EGFR showed
mutation in its kinase domain, Epithelial mesenchymal transition, and mechanisms to develop
resistance to gefitinib [35]. In colorectal, and head and neck cancers KRAS mutation, EGFR S492R
mutation, and increased ErBb signaling are responsible for resistance

What Is The Theme Of Courage By Anne Sexton
Karely Colon
Period 5
April 25, 2015
Poem Analysis Courage is a feeling, perhaps everyone has felt before, even if it wasn t acknowledged.
People refer to courage as an act of stepping out ones comfort zone, putting any fear a person may
have to the side and overcoming something that needs everything inside to do. Anne Sexton, a
confessional poet depicts courage in all forms in her poem Courage. Sexton was very open and shared
painful details in her poems. Some are against it and others would appreciate her work. Life
necessitates courage to overcome the challenges of everyday living. This poem gradually leads to an
acceptance of death after a life of courageous moments. Sexton helps one visualize something as small

describes it as, Getting a transfusion from the fire / picking the scabs off your heart / then wringing it

suffering. Lines 32 37 then transition to someone trying to relieve their sorrow and mend their scars. It
takes courage from one to move on from a heart wrecking event. Sexton then writes, It woke to the
wings of the roses / and was transformed (37 38). A person shows courage when they can take their
sorrow and pain and turn it into something greater, possibly a motivation or a way to help

Graduate Teaching Assistants
INTRODUCTION
Graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) play an essential role for undergraduate college education at
many research universities in the United States. In many cases, the quality of GTA teaching ingrains a
crucial and lifelong signature in undergraduate students that affects career choices and development.
This is especially true due to the fact that a large majority of GTAs in chemistry teach freshman and
sophomore year undergraduate students. Therefore, the quality of GTA teaching has a long but
foreseeable impact on the future scientific community and for our society at large.

A Short Note On Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, And Opioids
Julie Thao
HSCD 300 01
Essay 1
February 7th, 2016
1. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol,
tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter acquired
taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by ceasing the
inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the user interacts
with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes impairment in cognition
and ability to make effective decisions. Another effect caused by the intake of alcohol are increased
sex drive prior to the frontal lobe of the brain being under the influence of chemicals and damage to
the major brain neurotransmitters, which can lead to impairment of new memories. The effects that
alcohol are accountable for on the body are on the cardiovascular system and massive amounts of
alcohol use leading to intoxication can cause severe damage to the liver including the nervous system
resulting in death (Stevens, P., Smith, R. L., 2013).
Nicotine can be found in tobacco products an example is in cigarettes. It serves as a minor stimulant as
well as a sedative to the central nervous system. The effect nicotine gives off is known as a kick which
is caused by a discharge of epinephrine from the adrenal cortex, that stimulates the central nervous
system and endocrine glands to establish an immediate release

Character Development In A White Heron
Many times adults will look back on their childhood to remember the great adventures they had or
even the adventures they wished they had as a child. When looking back on those adventures one can
see where at the time they were great and wonderful, often recalling in vivid detail the winning of a
battle, finding a treasure or climbing an impossibly large mountain. These adventures can shape who
and what adults become. In the story A White Heron the author Sarah Orne Jewett the perspective of
the child is used to give the reader an insight once again into the world of adventure that children
have. Once again the adult can relive an adventure and see the shaping of a girl into a young woman

Themes In To Kill A Mocking Bird And The Breakfast Club
The definition of belonging is shaped by various factors. Personal, Cultural, historical and social
influences can determine in which way the theme is related to. It is labelled as an issue being
associated with the depression as well as today. The two text types that I have analysed to further
explore belonging is the novel To Kill A Mocking Bird and the film The Breakfast Club as well as the
themes apparent in both of these Prejudice, cultural bias and stereotypes. The novel To Kill A
Mocking Bird is primarily based on the problems associated with prejudice and cultural bias during
the 30 s. That these themes are explored by Harper Lee it allows for a greater approach to balancing
belonging and most of all not belonging. In Chapter 20 of the novel Atticus states There s something
in our world that makes men lose their heads, they couldn t be fair if they tried it s a white mans world
against a black man s, a white man always wins now this quote is directed at Jem. A 10 year old girl
caught in the prime generation for cultural bias and discrimination. The inclusion of this statement is
the utilisation of metaphor to reflect the strong presence of inequality and racism. It is as
straightforward to the reader, as it is in the text. This technique establishes the two perspectives within
the town. Jem s prejudice outlook is a good reference to how people will go along with what they are
educated on rather than what they see, as it s easier to belong than to not. It clearly

Malaria Is A Disease Of The Poor
Would a country free of malaria still be just as poor? Malaria is frequently referred to as a disease of
the poor. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where malaria carrying
mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living things called
Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the person s blood. They
live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live from the cells, which
kill the cells (Britannica). Malaria is one of the most serious health problems facing the world today.
The World Health Organization estimates that over 300 million new cases of malaria arise a year, with
approximately two to three million deaths resulting from
Life cycle of the human malaria parasite. contraction. (Carrington).
Mainly I chose Malaria as my research topic because I love learning about parasites and their
behavior. Also I chose it because it is a common disease in Sri Lanka, which is where I come from and
also because one of my best friends died from malaria. I want to know why malaria mostly spread in
poor countries such as Africa, India, and Peru. Another reason I chose malaria as my topic because
one day I want to become a doctor and help people live in poor countries.
Before the research I knew malaria is a disease which occurs mostly in poor, tropical and subtropical
areas of the world. I also knew people get malaria by being bitten by an infective mosquito.

Home Automation and Smart Thermostats Google has been working with Nest since 2014 developing
smart thermostats and other home automation systems that aim to create a smarter home for more
comfortable living. The Nest thermostat learns the preferred temperature of the home owners and
builds a schedule around this information (Nest.com, 2017). It can program itself and helps the
homeowner in saving a lot on energy use. For example, if the homeowner is out of the house, the
thermostat programs itself to Eco Temperature; thereby, saving on energy (Nest.com, 2017).
Furthermore, the Nest thermostat adapts with the changing of the season. The adjustments of
temperature of the Nest thermostat can be done remotely. Using one s phone, the thermostat inside the

Civility Vs. Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In the novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding the novels main theme was civility versus
savagery. The novel is about school boys who get stranded in an island because the airplane the boys
were in was shot down. The only adult who was the pilot died so the boys had to learn how to survive
without any adults. The schoolboys were aged ranged from 6 to 12 and since there is no adult
supervision the boys vote for a leader which causes conflict with two boys. Things begin to get out of
hand because they are free from any rules resulting in them acting like savages and forgetting about
civilization. The conflict between the two boys named Ralph and Jack represents civility versus
savagery because Ralph becomes leader and uses his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack is not the leader but still manages to break and change Ralph s rules. The conch shell was
supposed to represent power and order all over the island but Jack establishes that the conch shell does
not work in a specific place. The boys had no rules since there was not any adults in the island. If the
boys did not want to do something they would not do it. All the boys did not care about their
appearance they were not those civilized boys anymore. As the days passed and the boys were still
stranded in the island they would become less civilized. In chapter 7 all the boy s appearance is not
civilized they begin to look like animals: Not one of them was an obvious subject for a shower, and
yet hair, much too long, tangled here and there, knotted round a dead leaf or a twig (Golding). What
this means in terms of civilization is that the appearances the boys present is symbolizing that they
have no hope and that the boys do not care. They are hiding their feelings inside but are showing them
in the outside by acting like animals and dressing uncivilized. Ralph and Jack disagree with hunting or
being rescued being the main goal. Jack and Ralph have different point of views on hunting but
hunting for pigs becomes the main topic on the island. Most of the boy s do not care of getting rescued
all they care about is surviving and eating meat. Jack and his hunters become obsessed with hunting

Persuasion, Politics, and Propaganda
The news industry has been in charge of shaping the opinions of the audience for several years. Along
with this issue, there are global giants who also control the media. As a result, many seem to turn to
the Internet as a source for the news. The Internet/World Wide Web introduces many ways to engage
voters and facilitate participation in politics (Bucy, 2005). However, consumers remain vulnerable to
media persuasion, politics, and propaganda.

President Obama did not use political revenge against him. Newton small (2012) stated Obama also
spent time persuading Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy to use his sway over Hamas Morsy s
political party, the Muslim Brotherhood, spawned Hamas years ago to bring about a cease fire (p. 1).
The article concludes with stating that President Obama may win a Nobel Prize for his attempts made
to bring peace to the Middle East. Differences The newspaper article simply stated facts on the
presidents and the years of attempts made by the United States. It gave a historic chart of positives and
negatives. It also did not show any favoritism to either one of the presidents. The article showed a
historic view of 1977 to the present. However, the Time article focused mainly on the positive
attempts made by President Obama. The article also gave much credit to all the efforts made from
2009 up to now. The Time article only showed President Obama s photograph and gave a perspective
of the steps taken by Obama.

Female Convicts As A Subject Of Historical Discussion
There has been a lack of interest in female convicts as a subject of historical discussion. The history of
female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts with grave
reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to Australia on
ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in achieving freedom and
reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were incorporated into a pattern initially
designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the origins and characteristics of a sample
of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay aims to establish an alternative impression
of the female convicts that were deemed damned whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with
the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the view that the women were the victims of a repressive
patriarchal society and the appellation of female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I
believe they were not members of a professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human
needs, doing anything they could to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the
subjects of investigation since transportation commenced. Many historians set out to determine
whether the female convicts were vicious criminals or innocent victims . Garton s article researches
the debate concerning the origins and characteristics of the convicts being

A Girl Like Her shows the bullying done by Avery through a camera lens and what happens in Avery s
house through another camera lens. For example, according to theodysseyonline it says, the difference
between A Girl Like Her and other movies about bullying is that you see both sides to bullying: the
bully and the person being bullied. That means that in the movie it shows you what both the bully and
the victim have to go through. The author is trying to show the feelings of both roles: the bully and the
victim. Another reason why A Girl Like Her has so many point of views is because every character has
their own life story and way of seeing things so it would make sense to show each individual
characters point of view. For example it says in theodysseyonline, this movie allows you to understand
the reason for the bullying through the bullier eyes, and the true side of how a family feels when their
loved one thought suicide was the answer. The author is suggesting that if you want to learn the full
story you need many pov s to shape your understanding. That brings me to the conclusion that more
than one point of view helps you understand the characters story and learn about bullying. All in all,
this is how showing more than one perspective helps raise awareness for bullying and with suicide

Flood Narrative ( Genesis 6-9 ) Vs. Epic Gilgamesh And...
Flood Narrative (Genesis 6 9) vs. Epic Gilgamesh, Tablet XI The Flood Narrative (Genesis 6 9) and
the Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet XI have certain parallels that are undeniable, yet many noticeable
differences. The parallels are strange yet oddly common in any flood narrative and the differences
often lie behind the reasons, responses, and decisions made by the main characters. In both texts, each
of the main characters, Noah and Uta napishti, were ordered to build an ark or a boat due to an
incoming flood. In Genesis, God tells Noah, Make yourself an ark of cypress wood, make rooms in
the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch (Genesis 6:14). Noah obeys God s orders and indeed

This is logical to due to the fact that Noah only had his family and animals on the ark, while Uta
napishti has his family, friends, animals, silver and gold, and all valuables needed to reestablish the
earth once the floods had passed. Once the floods did indeed pass, the Noah s ark stopped in the
mountains of Ararat and Uta napishti s boat stopped at Mount Nimush. However, both Noah and Uta
napishti had to wait and make sure that the floods had truly stopped. Genesis reads, The waters
continued to abate until the tenth month...on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains
reappeared (Genesis 8:5). Similarly, Epic Gilgamesh reads, One day and a second, Mount Nimush
held the boat fast, allowed it no motion, a third day and a fourth, Mount Nimush held the boat fast,
allowed it no motion (Gilgamesh, XI, 143 145). It s a coincidence that both of these mountains are
located in the Middle East. After enduring a catastrophic flood, Noah and Uta napishti had to remain
in their shelter for days on end. Nevertheless, these men are admirable for their dedication and
perseverance. Unfortunately, Noah had to persevere significantly longer time than Gilgamesh. In the
Epic Gilgamesh, the flood only lasted six days and seven nights: For six days and nights, there blew

Language Identification of Individual Words with Joint...
Within a multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, knowledge of the language of
origin of unknown words can improve pronunciation modelling accuracy. This is of particular
importance for ASR systems required to deal with code switched speech or proper names of foreign
origin. For words that occur in the language model, but do not occur in the pronunciation lexicon, text
based language identification (T LID) of a single word in isolation may be required. This is a
challenging task, especially for short words. We motivate for the importance of accurate T LID in
speech processing systems and introduce a novel way of applying Joint Sequence Models to the T LID
task. We obtain competitive results on a real world 4 language task: for our best JSM system, an F1
value of 97.2% is obtained, compared to a F1 value of 95.2% obtained with a state of the art Support

multilingual settings. Especially for minority languages, such {it code switching} with a dominant
language can become an intrinsic part of the language itself~cite{modipaimplications}. Automatic

Matrix Essay
Epistemology is the nature of knowledge. Knowledge is important when considering what is reality
and what is deception. The movie The Matrix displays a social deception in which Neo, the main
character, is caught between what he thought was once reality and a whole new world that controls
everything he thought was real. If I were Neo, I would not truly be able to know that I was in the
matrix. However, it is rational to believe that I am in the matrix and will eventually enter back into my
reality later. The proof that that I can know that I am in the matrix and that I will return to reality
comes from the responses of foundationalism, idealism, and pallibalism.
To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you know what you are sure of, you can build up knowledge from there. Many wonder how we
can wonder we are not dreaming. Some agree that you cannot feel pain in a dream, but others say they
have. The argument that dreams are not related to memory is strong because most people do not
remember their dreams. Descartes explains that in a dream you can feel as if you are using all of your
senses, but they seem to be more vague than when awake. Descartes struggles with the dream issue
until he comes upon his conclusion. I now notice that there is a vast difference between [being asleep
and being awake], in that dreams are never linked by memory with all the other actions of life as
waking experiences are. ... But when I distinctly see where things come from and where and when
they come to me, and when I can connect my perceptions of them with the whole of the rest of my life
without a break, then I am quite certain that when I encounter these things I am not asleep but awake.
(Med. 6, AT 7:89 90) (Lex, Newman) This dream argument attributes to how we can know anything.
For Neo s sake it helps him decide weather he is really in the matrix or not.
In addition to foundationalism proving that knowledge is built up from what we are certain of,
idealism plays an important role of arguing that all reality is in the mind. Descartes argument for
idealism explains how knowledge of reality is possible. He goes through the process of using an

Should Avalon Join The European Union

Are Cats Smarter Than Dogs
The Egyptians worshipped them, fish fear them, and they own the space around them like kings; cats
are small forces to be reckoned with. Do like cats or dogs? This question has haunted every get to

way to ease the first day jitters is beyond me, but I digress. Recently I ve decided that it really isn t a
question of preferring one over the other, but rather it s you like one and respect the other. Dogs are
impossible to not like; they re large puffs of fur that contain about as much intelligence as an infant
while also retaining the endearing quality of I ll love you forever if you pet me . Cats however, are
cold, cunning, and judgmental creatures that refuse to demean themselves with silly things such as
utter devotion. When faced with these two polar opposite creatures, it is clear which one demands

Importance Of System Of Internal Control
1. What is a system of internal control and what objectives is it designed to fulfil? In your view, how
relevant is an organization s culture and value system in achieving the objectives of a system of
internal controls? The system of internal control is an essential process for both public and private
sectors. It is a system which must be implemented to ensure due diligence is exercised during the
transactions of the corporate business within all applicable laws and regulations. Policies and
procedure must be developed and implemented to prevent fraud, abuse, misappropriation of funds and
to protect the company s assets. Without such parameters, it would be difficult to accurately track the
expenditures and revenues and for accountability of the business and its employees. The County has a
code of conduct in place that each employee must read and sign upon commencement of employment.
There are also policies as it relates to use of equipment, credit cards, cash handling procedures,
accepting gifts and donations for both Staff and Council. It is important to ensure the budget document
is reviewed and up to date regularly. All Departments complete month end reports, within 3 days of

Relations Between Iran And Iran
This paper explores long strained relations between Iran and United States that began decades ago.
The paper also examines the events that led to this decades of disagreement between Washington and
Tehran. Allies to enemies, that is what happen after series of events such as the CIA backed coup in
1953 to the hostage crises at the U.S Embassy in Tehran. The U.S and many of its allies criticized Iran
s nuclear program which they believed that Iran was using it to develop nuclear weapons. Iran on the
other hand denied this accusations and stated that their nuclear program was only for civilian use only.
After long talks and crippling sanctions against Iran, finally there was a historic agreement between
Iran and six world powers that would stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and would lift the
sanctions imposed on Iran.
Keywords: Foreign relations, executive agreement, interest groups, theocracy, multilateralism
The Nuclear Deal
Iran and the United States were once a powerful ally. During the Cold War, the United States
supported, and some cases rallied allied countries, including Iran as a fortification against the Soviet
Union. In certain cases, the United States was supporting unpopular and suppressive regimes. The
Shah of Iran and his suppressive regime was one of those governments. The Shah regime was
overthrown in 1979 and was ultimately replaced by another regime, but this this regime and its
leadership were anti American. The new regime was a

When they say it is non stick, they really mean it, it is a great quality non stick product. It is easy to
wash and the thermospots allow the heat to be distributed evenly so that you get an even heating
pattern. A major bonus is that the handles really do stay cool even when they are on gas burners. T Fal
Initiatives 10 Piece Nonstick Inside and Out Cookware Set consCons: The only con is the fact that
they do not sell the lids or knobs separately. This will only be a problem if you are rough with your T

Ecocriticism In The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett
Introduction
All writers and their critics are stuck with language, and although we cast nature and culture as
opposites, in fact they constantly mingle, like water and soil in a flowing stream (Howarth 69).by
reading this quotation we indicate that nature and culture are essential in human life. In other words,
humanity and environment are one unit, each of them supplements the other. Ecocriticism could be
defined as a literary discipline which seeks to examine the intersections of culture, literature, and
ecology. It also seeks to infer the relationships among nature, the natural processes themselves, and
human conception of the natural world . This paper will regard Frances Hodgson Burnett s novel The
Secret Garden as an ecocritical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the principle of equality the state lines between human and animal are arbitrary and
irrelevant. Moreover, the principle of equality utters that everyone is entitled to equal moral
consideration, irrespective of family, race, nation or species (Garred 137). Therefore, ecocriticism
agreed with the liberationist on the subjectivity and the borders between human and non human
creatures. Hence, the assessment of the way that humans and non human cohabit in the intra textual
system is what the paper seeks to introduce.
The paper will present the role of animals within The Secret Garden. Animals characters are very
essential in the novel and this underscore the interaction between human and animal, which is a

Examples Of British Colonialism In Bend It Like Beckham
Bend It Like Beckham is a film that depicts British colonialist values. It shows an Indian family
struggling to keep their culture and values alive in a city where British culture is prominently
overcoming the Indian culture Jess family is trying to hold on to. In the film, Jess parents are
somewhat portrayed as the bad guys because they do not want their daughter to pursue her dream of
becoming a professional soccer player and prevent her from playing throughout most of the movie.
Her parents are portrayed as the strict, conservative Indians, while the British are portrayed as free
spirited and liberating. Instead of excluding it s immigrants, the British are in a way trying to
assimilate them and make them part of the British culture.

My Love For Music Education
Ever since my years in elementary school, I have had a love for music. This love developed in middle
school where the notion of teaching music came to me. In high school, I knew the profession that was
right for me was music education. After graduation, I began my journey to my calling by attending
Shepherd University.
During my time at Shepherd University, I excelled in music theory and aural skills. I received many
accolades for these skills, including an outstanding sophomore award and a music theory and aural
skills tutoring award. My hard work led me to pass most of my courses with little worry, however one
course had a reputation for its difficulty. This class was General Music Pedagogy and 21st Century
Technology. The professor, Dr. David Gonzol was passionate about Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk
method, and this reflected in the course. We had play parties, played on Orff instruments, taught mock
lessons and compiled a collection of folk songs for use in presenting rhythmic and melodic elements.
Through hard work and determination, I passed with an A. For the elementary placement of my
student teaching I was fortunate to work with Mrs. Lisa Terch at Eastern Elementary ... Show more

schools, Princess Anne Elementary School and Deal Island School. At Deal Island, I had to teach

fortunate enough to have a room to teach in at Princess Anne. However, I was still teaching computer
and music at Deal Island. On my third and most recent year I taught exclusively at Princess Anne and
began teaching pre kindergarten. Teaching pre kindergarten revitalized my passion for instilling love
for music in my students, much like the one I had when I was their

With that experimenting comes new and sometimes dangerous trends which seem to take over society and become a part of the norm. These trends can include everything from the clothes you wear to the activities you do. One trend that has been particularly troubling has been mixing energy drinks with alcohol. I remember when energy drinks became popular. You saw your peers drinking them and even celebrities were photographed drinking them. They became the cool thing to drink and before you knew it bartenders were serving these drinks at bars and restaurants. The combination of those two types of drinks which cause opposing effects on the body with one being an upper and the other a downer (look up) can have dire consequences on your body. ... The CDC (20105) reports that drinkers who mix the two are twice as likely to report being taken advantage of sexually or to report taking advantage of someone sexually. This has created a great leap in banking crime. However there s a scare knowledge of the public s understanding of this. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analysed using a chi squared analysis. Through student and nonstudent participants sampling approach no significant differences were observed between group understandings of new banking crimes and found that they had identical ranking of responses. Additionally using an approach by Schuman and Scott (1987), half the participants were asked open questions and the other closed questions, this also highlighted the impact of question form on ranking of responses and showed no definate ordering of response choices could be made. Key words: Banking crimes, public understanding, questionnaire, chi squared analysis 1.Introduction The banking system and ways that people can withdraw and/or spend their money has changed over the years and continues to do so. • 8. Analysis Of The Fiedler Contingency Theory On Leadership Question 1: As a leader, the Fiedler contingency theory could be used to manage employees by placing the most suitable leader with his or her given style for the specific situation. Fiedler believed that leaders were incapable of changing their style of leadership to adapt to the situation. So instead, it is suggested that the situation or rather the leader replaced to match the specific situation. To optimize the favorability of a leadership situation, three components must first be taken into account: leader member relations, task structure and positional power of the leader. The optimal leader member relations have a good relationship between themselves (the leaders) and the followers. A good task structure possesses standard procedures which are in place to complete the tasks. And finally, the strong positional power refers to a leader having authority to evaluate performance and administer rewards or punishments. In contrast, the Hersey and Blanchard s situational theory on leadership relied on leaders were capable of being flexible with their range of skills to adapt their behavior to the maturity of their followers. It is comprised of three components: the amount of task related behaviors a leader displays, the amount of relationship related behaviors a leader displays, and the level of maturity of the followers to perform a specific task. The first and second components are similar to that of the leader member relations and task structure from the Fiedler contingency model. Whereas, the maturity of the employees given the specific tasks can vary depending on the individual follower. Someone with a high maturity indicates self confidence and the ability to perform the task, and low maturity indicates a lack of ability and self confidence. Therefore, leaders should assess each of their employees for their varying levels of self confidence and ability to perform the task. Then they can tailor their response to the individual employee depending on the four levels of maturity that they display: guide, direct, delegate and support. Question 2: As a leader, what form of power would you attempt to use on a consistent basis to manage your employees and why would you choose this form of power? As a leader, I ... • 12. Components Of Most Influential Components We identified the affected components of most influential components in both type of perturbations. We combined all the four environmental conditions to construct the network of the most influential components with downstream targets. On these networks we mapped druggable proteins and cancer associated genes. Under inactivating perturbations, we obtained the network of PI3K, EGFR, PP2A, GRK and CaM (Figure 7A). Under activating perturbations, we obtained the network of influential components i.e. EGFR, IL1_TNFR, ERK, SHP2, RKIP, Ras, Gbg_i, Fak, Integrins, and PP2A (Figure 7B). The ranking of these components based on number of affected components is shown in Table 4. We observed that the EGFR is affecting most number of components under activating as well as inactivating perturbations. Interestingly, EGFR is a validated drug target for cancer [34]. The other influential components such as PI3K, ERK, and Ras have been previously explored in multiple cancer types. However, the influential components consist of the most important drug candidates that block cell proliferation in cancer cells. Some of these components have been associated with the drug resistance. For example, in non small cell lung cancer, EGFR showed mutation in its kinase domain, Epithelial mesenchymal transition, and mechanisms to develop resistance to gefitinib [35]. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter acquired taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by ceasing the inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the user interacts with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes impairment in cognition and ability to make effective decisions. Personal, Cultural, historical and social influences can determine in which way the theme is related to. It is labelled as an issue being associated with the depression as well as today. The two text types that I have analysed to further explore belonging is the novel To Kill A Mocking Bird and the film The Breakfast Club as well as the themes apparent in both of these Prejudice, cultural bias and stereotypes. The novel To Kill A Mocking Bird is primarily based on the problems associated with prejudice and cultural bias during the 30 s. That these themes are explored by Harper Lee it allows for a greater approach to balancing belonging and most of all not belonging. In Chapter 20 of the novel Atticus states There s something in our world that makes men lose their heads, they couldn t be fair if they tried it s a white mans world against a black man s, a white man always wins now this quote is directed at Jem. A 10 year old girl caught in the prime generation for cultural bias and discrimination. The inclusion of this statement is the utilisation of metaphor to reflect the strong presence of inequality and racism. It is as straightforward to the reader, as it is in the text. This technique establishes the two perspectives within the town. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where malaria carrying mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living things called Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the person s blood. They live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live from the cells, which kill the cells (Britannica). Malaria is one of the most serious health problems facing the world today. In chapter 7 all the boy s appearance is not civilized they begin to look like animals: Not one of them was an obvious subject for a shower, and yet hair, much too long, tangled here and there, knotted round a dead leaf or a twig (Golding). • 24. Female Convicts As A Subject Of Historical Discussion There has been a lack of interest in female convicts as a subject of historical discussion. The history of female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts with grave reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to Australia on ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in achieving freedom and reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were incorporated into a pattern initially designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the origins and characteristics of a sample of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay aims to establish an alternative impression of the female convicts that were deemed damned whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the view that the women were the victims of a repressive patriarchal society and the appellation of female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I believe they were not members of a professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human needs, doing anything they could to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the subjects of investigation since transportation commenced. Many historians set out to determine whether the female convicts were vicious criminals or innocent victims . Within a multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, knowledge of the language of origin of unknown words can improve pronunciation modelling accuracy. In high school, I knew the profession that was right for me was music education. After graduation, I began my journey to my calling by attending Shepherd University. During my time at Shepherd University, I excelled in music theory and aural skills. I received many accolades for these skills, including an outstanding sophomore award and a music theory and aural skills tutoring award. My hard work led me to pass most of my courses with little worry, however one course had a reputation for its difficulty. This class was General Music Pedagogy and 21st Century Technology. The professor, Dr. David Gonzol was passionate about Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk method, and this reflected in the course. We had play parties, played on Orff instruments, taught mock lessons and compiled a collection of folk songs for use in presenting rhythmic and melodic elements. Through hard work and determination, I passed with an A. For the elementary placement of my student teaching I was fortunate to work with Mrs. Lisa Terch at Eastern Elementary ...
