The Emergence Of Nationalism In The Nineteenth Century
Introduction: Nationalism is the most potent factor conducting in the political ground. In the
nineteenth century it was almost universally accepted as a injunction for religion. Though in the
middle age religious view had prominent influence but in the first half of 16th century more emphasis
was given to geographic and national unity and field of national sovereign state was established. At
that time strong central national government was established in England, French, Spain. French
revolution has been considered the first emergence of nationalism. On the other hand Renaissance and
Protestant reformation movement significant role in the rise of European nationalism. Machiavelli
believed that the uniformity of tradition, language and law are the main element of nationalism
(Ayesuddin,1976, in bengali). Besides these it is also necessary to understand clearly the implication
of the trend of nationalist movement. The recorded history of Bangladesh is found from around the
first century of the Christian era. Until the coming of muslims in the early 13th century the region was
ruled by the Hindu and Buddhist kings. The muslim rule in Bangladesh began early in the 13th
century and continued until the coming of East India Company. It had been seen a seat of political
influence in the history of south Asia, especially 19th and 20th centuries. All major freedom
movements against the British rule and Sipahi Bidroha in 1857, was the first counterblasts against

Socrates Vs Meno
In this writing, Meno asks Socrates if virtue can be taught or is virtue the result of practice or does
virtue come about in another way (70a). Meno believes that virtue is different for different actions
performed and it also differs in terms of the age of the individual (72a). Socrates responds by telling
me no that he does not know what qualities virtue possesses and he is ignorant to it (71b). However,
virtue should take on the same form (72c), rather than being different for different actions and age of
the person. Factors of virtue include justice and moderation (73b), and if people did not have the same
traits of virtue, then this would mean that they are not good or virtuous in the same way (73c). During
this conversation, Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this frustration, Meno compares Socrates to a torpedo fish which he explains the feeling as if
Socrates is making Meno feel numb in the sense that Socrates is leading Meno into a state of
confusion where he cannot find any information in his mind or he cannot speak his mind in a way that
he feels is logical. Too, before the conversation with Socrates, Meno found that he was able to have
other conversations with different people other than Socrates in the past regarding what he thinks
virtue is (80a b). When Meno spoke about virtue, he felt confident in his answer for it, however,
Socrates has now made Meno feel unsure of his answer about what virtue really is (80a b). However,
Socrates responds that even when he puts others in a state of confusion, he also finds himself to be in a
state of confusion. Therefore, he must be a torpedo fish that is numb that also makes other people feel
numb (80c). Socrates is constantly determined to find an answer for an idea that does not seem to have
any doubt in the answer. Therefore, he always seems to frustrate many people who just want to state
their answer, however, Socrates in way, is determined to help educated that other person such

Public Vs. Public Schools
Larry Boots
Public vs Non Public School Labor Markets
Private versus public education, good versus bad, rich versus poor. A debate that has greatly impacted
our society for centuries. Guided by inaccurate perceptions of each side, society has created a
misunderstanding of the two types of education and what they represent, resulting in a competitive
teacher labor market for public and private schools K 12. With the question, is there a difference
between teaching in a public or private school? If so, which one has the advantage in the labor
market?
Growing up in a town that offered two high schools, one private and the other public, I was given the
opportunity to gain knowledge on how people perceived the two schools, and what impact ... Show

Every parent wants their child to receive the best education possible, in preparation for the future. This
leads to the question, what factors determine a school more desirable for receiving an education? If
every student is presented with the same material, then what is difference between attending a public
high school versus a private high school? Both of these questions can be answered with one simple
word, teachers. Like any other occupation, the employer is looking to find the best candidate suitable
for a certain position. Schools are looking to find the best teachers to employ in hopes of increasing
student achievement, resulting in a good overall reputation of the school. Thus creating a competitive
labor market for teachers.
History:
Schooling in America originated in the 18th century, with the creation of privatized schooling.
Selective students were given the opportunity to study various subjects. Most of the students who
were given an opportunity to attend school at that time were white and came from wealthy families,
and unlike today, most of the teachers were male. The formation of public schools didn t happen until
the 1840 s, which was created by the government in effort to provide education to those who could not
afford it at the time. The most qualified teachers were often found teaching in the private schools,
leaving the less qualified teachers in the public schools.

THE BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL Essay
Introduction The Battle of Guadalcanal was a very important battleground that ended the Japanese
ground advancement in the Pacific area of operations. Also, after they were defeated and removed
from the island it showed that they were not an unstoppable foe that resulted in boasting the
confidence of the United States and its allies. The amphibious assault that occurred on Guadalcanal
was the first amphibious counteroffensive for the United States after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The
Japanese were attempting to build an airfield on the island and gain a foothold that would help to
protect their flanks as they continued their offensive campaign through the Pacific. Having an
established foothold on Guadalcanal would also give the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also believed that if the Japanese were able to complete this airfield that it would be too
advantageous for them and would also aid in invading Port Moresby on the Western coast of New
Guinea.
Planning and Preparation In the initial planning there were many debates on who would command the
assault on Guadalcanal. General Douglas MacArthur was the Commander of the Southwest Pacific
Forces and was originally thought of to command the assault. However the Navy expressed numerous
concerns that MacArthur would possibly leave their carriers exposed and the result placed Admiral
Chester Nimitz as the overall Commander. The mission was tasked to the 1st marine division out of
North Carolina that was commanded by Major General Alexander Vandegrift. General Vandegrift
received his orders to perform the amphibious assault on Guadalcanal on the 25th of June 1942.
Immediately General Vandegrift realized many problems he would have to overcome. Originally he
had not planned on deploying his unit into combat until the beginning of 1943. His unit was newly
formed and spread between three different locations. To make matters worse the majority of his men
had little to no combat experience. The majority of the equipment they possessed was

Essay on Virtue as Habit
Virtue as Habit
The aim of this essay is to examine the following question. Does it make a difference in moral
psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue
as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically
compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so
incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two
basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t
know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1)
In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . uniformity of action which by frequent repetition has
become a necessity, then it is not a skill proceeding from
freedom and accordingly not a moral skill (66).
Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to
govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free
act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s
concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral
habit.
The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical
thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it
is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical
Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient
cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in
order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism.
The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind
of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty
and precision one can expect

John Proctor has a dark secret, He possesses a major flaw he has had an affair with Abigail Williams,

Due to the fact that Proctor has committed adultery against Elizabeth, he becomes a tragic hero, and
Abigail Williams shows that when she says I know how you clutched my back behind your house and
sweated like a stallion whenever I come near (Act I, lines 423 425). John broke his marriage vows, but
even though he regrets he has become a tragic hero. It s too late to regret he has sinned, he has ruined
his marriage with Elizabeth and now she is not pleased with him. Due to the fact that he has cheated
on Elizabeth, his outlook in life is negative, when He tells her I have not moved from there to there
without I think to please you (Act II, lines 159 161). The affair also caused Elizabeth to distrust John,
who for seven months was trying to get into her good graces and is tired of her suspicion. Because of
John s inability to control his desire and resist temptation, his life is being turned upside down by the
jealousy and need for revenge of Abigail, marking the beginning of his downfall and path to becoming

Personal Influence of Grigori Rasputin
A. PLAN OF INVESTIGATION Among the greatest mysteries of Russian history is the influence of
the Mad Monk Grigori Rasputin. During his time in court 1907 1916, Rasputin developed a complex
relationship with the ruling Romanovs and leading ministers due to his mystical ability to treat the
hemophilia of the sole heir to the throne, Tsarevich Alexei. The topic of this investigation is to analyze
to what extent did the personal influence of Grigori Rasputin lead to the fall of the Russian Empire.
The analysis will investigate the relationship of Rasputin to those in positions of power, starting from
the time when Rasputin first treated Alexei to the last days of the Romanov Dynasty. Statements from

Rasputin s influence over Alexandra allowed him to promote political allies to high ranking state
positions, leading to a massive reorganization of bureaucracy in 1915 1916 (Massie 389). Government
officials soon believed that Rasputin s presence was the source of too many of the troubles of the
empire and posed a threat to the Romanov Dynasty. In December 1916, a group of nobles led by
Prince Felix Yusupov plotted Rasputin s death. After inviting him to a dinner party, they brutally
murdered Rasputin, shooting him several times, beating him, poisoning him with cyanide, and finally
throwing him into the Neva River (Rasputin 235; King 182). The Romanov Dynasty would collapse in
the following year 1917 in the February.

in 1967 in the United States, thus the book is a secondary source. Massie is a Pulitzer Prize winning

Ursuala K. LeGuin s The Left Hand of Darkness was written after J.R.R. Tolkien s The Fellowship of

is how the authors treat the issue of cross cultural misunderstandings. All three works contain many
incidents where people of one race or planet encounter people of a different race or from a different
planet. Tolkien treats this issue in a specisitc or physiological manner. The cultural misunderstandings

A Rhetorical Analysis of Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia Convention
The prominent patriot Patrick Henry once said, I know not what course others may take; but as for me,
give me liberty or give me death! (Henry 7) implying that a life without liberty is not a righteous life.
Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory Speech to the Virginia Convention. While discussing
with the colonists, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain,
concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneously. In Patrick Henry s Speech to
the Virginia Convention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to
influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate.
Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifyingamplifyling loaded words to bring to
attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. The purpose of loaded words are terms to
influence by utilizing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five,
We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets
the verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We
have asked; we have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned,
remonstrated and supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries is,
compelling them to take action. He continues to go forth near the end in the paragraph seven stating It
is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter (Henry 7). Again he focuses on the verb, in this case, extenuate
to accentuate the seriousness of the dilemma by pleading to the audience that now is the time to act,
rather than wait or else matters will only get more grave. Henry uses amplifying loaded words in his
declamation to his advantage to persuade, almost deceive, in order to oblige his audience to take
matters into their own hands. Patrick Henry displays coherent parallelism in order to highlight the
hardships the colonies had to endure while fusing balance and technique in doing so. Parallelism, or
parallel structure, is a literary method defined as the

Furthermore, the phrase from any superior power and not to be under thoroughly illustrated the ideal

constitution. Lastly, Karl Marx presented the whole world with the idea of communism which are best

Why Jackson May Recover Contract Damages
I PART A
Is Jackson able to recover by way of damages; the students profits made on Airbandb; and the loss for
the three months rent before 1 December?
To show that Jackson may recover contract damages, the following elements must be considered:
1. Breach
2. Loss
3. Causation
4. Remoteness
5. Assessment of damages
A Breach
To claim damages, Jackson must establish breached of contract. The contract prohibits the students
from sub letting the property without Jackson s express permission. Without his knowledge, they sub
let the house on Airbandb, thereby constituting breach.
B Loss
Jackson has lost the profit from three months rent before 1 December.
C Causation
Did students breach cause Jackson to lose rent profits for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Per Hadley v Baxendale remoteness is satisfied where the damage either:
(a) arose naturally according to the usual course of things, from the breach; or
(b) may reasonably be supposed to have been in the contemplation of both parties at the time they
made the contract, as a probable result of the breach.
Applying the first limb, the students were presumably aware that subletting was a serious possibility
in termination and loss of future rent payments (until a new tenant was found), thus rendering the loss
reasonably foreseeable . While the students may argue that the extent of the loss as a full three months
of lost rent renders the loss too remote, per H Parsons (Livestock) Ltd v Uttley Ingham, the
foreseeability of the extent of the harm is irrelevant where the type of harm was foreseeable (as
satisfied above). Thus, remoteness is likely satisfied.
E Assessment of damages
Can Jackson claim loss of bargain damages?
Loss of bargain damages are only recoverable where a contract can be terminated at common law:
Shevill v Builders Licensing Board ( Shevill ). At common law, the right to terminate may arise when
there is a breach of a condition a term so important the party would not have entered into the contract
without assurance of its strict performance: Luna Park (NSW) Ltd v Tramways Advertising Pty Ltd.
This clause is likely to be construed as a condition given the contract is a lease agreement.

London Syndrome
Final paper
Intro
Poverty and crime has a relationship that goes hand in hand and have been portrayed by specialists
from all fields, from sociologists to market analysts. Today, the legislature is attempting to manage
poverty and confront the issues of criminal activities as they attempt to build up their nation s
economy and society. Beginning from the 1970s, researchers in the US pointed increasingly at the
connection between unemployment, crime, and destitution (Steinbuch, 2013). An assortment of social,
financial, and mental components may bring about dangerous practices, for example, armed robbery.
A sociological hypothesis that states armed robbery might be brought about by variables of social
stratification, absence of social portability, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This syndrome happens when a hostage choose not the cooperate with the hostage takers. This
particularly incorporates conduct, for example, debating the philosophy of the terrorist bunch

hostage taker. The typical result of this relationship amongst hostage and hostage taker is not quite the
same as that of the Stockholm Syndrome. A hostage takers may come to disdain a hostage so strongly
that at the first change he gets he kills the hostage.

Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the
tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation.
Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in
broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position
of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement
that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To
facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the
modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an
understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application,
modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use
of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different
direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s
conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good
fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents
the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to

Air In Respiratory System Analysis
Breathing is an automatic process that takes place in the respiratory system. Air enters and exits the
respiratory structures through the process inhalation and exhalation. Air moves in and out of the lungs
as a result of changes in pressure. Inhalation is achieved when the pressure inside the lungs is less than
the pressure outside of the lungs. The diaphragm contracts pulling air into the lungs. When the
pressure inside the lungs is less than the pressure outside the lungs, exhalation occurs allowing the
diaphragm to relax expelling carbon dioxide waste from the lungs (Acrobatiq, 2014). Air can be
inhaled through the nose or the mouth. When air enters via the nose during inhalation, it travels
through the nasal cavity. Once in the nasal cavity, the air is warmed and filtered by the nose hairs. The
air proceeds through the nasal cavity into the pharynx which includes the nasopharynx, oropharynx
and the laryngopharynx. The nasopharynx is the upper part of the pharynx above the soft palate. The
oropharynx is separated from the nasopharynx by the soft palate. The oropharynx also makes up the
back wall of the throat where the tonsils and uvula are located. Air continues through into ... Show

During external respiration, oxygen and carbon dioxide move from the blood in the capillaries into the
alveoli by diffusion. In internal respiration, cells release carbon dioxide as a byproduct of metabolism.
Oxygen arrives via the hemoglobin in red blood cells. These red blood cells then in turn, carry carbon
dioxide out from the cells to the pulmonary capillaries in the lungs to be exhaled. Oxygen and carbon
dioxide also use the process of diffusion to move in and out of the cells and tissues during internal
respiration. The process of respiration and gas exchange continues with each breath taken. It happens
continuously from birth to death. This process is vital to life and the function of all cells in the human

It made it equally as important as anything else did on the agenda. Also the United States was now a

changes were something new to the people of America but it was an idea that was not only accepted it
was expected. The same rings true with 9/11 in relation to the role of America. Our sole focus is
national security and to put our military at a point of being called upon any second. The United States
has embraced the idea that things have changed and are willing to do whatever possible to prevent
future events of this magnitude. Another characteristic that the Cold War Period and 9/11 hold in
common is that both were a pervasive political and military competition that dominated international
politics. On September 11, 2001 terrorism became a reality! There is no way for the United States to
prevent future attacks on Americans without working as a coalition force with the other nations to
identify, track, and eliminate terrorist networks around the world. One of the main problems with
fighting a war on terrorism is that the nations of the world have become accustomed to working alone
as individuals vice working together. The United States will need to change its approach in order to
conquer the worldwide threat of terrorism. The way to defeat terrorism at home and around the world
is to form an international counter terrorist task force. In order to prevent

Analyzing The Code Of Protein Self Organization Process
1 Introduction:
Protein aggregation, the self assembly process by which native proteins convert into insoluble fibrillar
structures, has varied implications in human health, biotechnology and material science like
influencing the yield of protein expression or to be involved with a class of late onset and slow
progressing diseases like Alzheimer s, Parkinson s. Deciphering the code of protein self organization
process resulting into aggregation has been an intellectual challenge for scientists over the past few
decades. Active research in this field and many recent advances in physical techniques along with
molecular dynamics simulation over the past few years have significantly increased our understanding
of the initial driving forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stirring as an agitation method is therefore quite useful in kinetic studies as process of aggregation
without agitation can sometime take several days to months for completion. Table 1.2 describe this
effect of agitation on aggregation process of various proteins, clearly showing the drastic change in
kinetic parameters like lag time in absence and presence of agitation condition like stirring. Such
agitation could possibly induce cavitation, local thermal effects and/or interfacial effects involving
rapid transportation of either aggregated or adsorbed species from the interface into solution. Bolder et
al. in their study on whey protein have speculated that stirring may also be breaking the immature
fibrils leading to production of more active fibrils. But the mechanism of how aggregation process
gets speed up on stirring is hitherto unclear.
In this study, we have tried to unravel the effects of stirring on protein aggregation process, especially
on the early events during the lag phase of the kinetic profile which governs the rate and
morphological developments of final aggregates. Over the past decades, most of the biophysical
research has been directed towards later phase of aggregation especially about the structure of mature
fibril and on possible oligomeric toxic

An Experimental Study on Hydrothermal Treatment of Sweet...
Hydrothermal treatment can be used for the on farm processing of lignocellulosic materials. This
study investigated the hydrothermal treatment of sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB) powder for the
extraction of hemicellulose from it. Changes in chemical composition of SSB and the formation of
sugars and hydrolytic products were studied. The optimum conditions of 12.54% (g/g) substrate
concentration and 90 minutes of isothermal treatment residence time at 394 K were conducive to the
extraction of 72.61 72.77% hemicellulose and producing a hydrolysate containing 56.06 63.54 g/L

River Runs Through It Symbolism
The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative,
introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in
his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean
captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River. Robert
Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river, focuses on
the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape his
character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman s coming of age through the
symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford s adaptation
explores Norman s coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river as a secondary
aspect.
Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, Eventually, all things merge into
one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I
am haunted by waters (119). In this statement, one is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean s life
experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he
believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running
through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his life]
flows over generations of rock under which are, the words, and some of the words are theirs (119).
The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow up, in
turn shaping him. Norman s life would have been very different had older generations for example,
commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential changes.
Finally, he is haunted by waters because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman
has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman s deep connection to the river, and how the way
he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain how he has
grown accept his life. For Maclean, the river was

Value Of Belongingness Theory
Roy Baumeister and Mark Leary s article attends to develop and evaluate the hypothesis that a need to
belong is fundamental human motivation. This distinct section examined and focused on the
applicability of the need to belong. More precisely, the authors state the hypothesis that human beings
have a certain drive to form and keep at least a minimum amount of positive and significant
interpersonal relationships. The object of the authors is to increase the scholarship around sense of
belonging and advance in the field of psychology and outside of it. It is provided in the beginning of
the article what are the dimensions of this topic and in what context it fits in. At the interdisciplinary
level, the belongingness hypothesis might help psychology in many different ways; one of them is to

of the frequent, speculative assertions that people need to belong, the belongingness hypothesis needs

examine the vast amount of untested information about need to belong (p.497). In addition, the
authors mention that the hypothesis implies that people should struggle to achieve a certain minimum
amount and quality of social contacts but that once this level is surpassed, the motivation should

be examined in order to choose which drought index to use. A drought is deficiency in precipitation
over some period of time. Water shortages can include impacts on vegetation, animals, and/or people.
For this project, The Palmer Hydrological Index was chosen because it provides numerical
classifications of drought. The PHDI includes standardized calculations for each location based on
temperature and precipitation variability of the specific location. This type of calculation makes the
data collection and analysis easier, as impairment can be compared to a numerical value and drought
is calculated specifically based on the regions temperature and precipitation variability. Different data

Louisiana Purchase History
What would most people do with 15 million dollars? Take a nice vacation, or buy a nice beach front
property? Buying a huge lump of unexplored, and undocumented land most likely wouldn t be anyone

Purchase was significant to American History and it led to the Civil War. The purchase was significant
to America, because it nearly doubled the young nation s size at a extremely cheap price, and allowed
many western settlers to build their homes and use the resources provided by the land. Also, the
purchase led into the Civil War, due to its controversy, and whether or not slavery should be allowed

As much as the purchase brought promise and opportunity, it also brought a lot of stress upon a nation
on the verge of a civil war. During this time period, tensions were building between people who
believed in slavery, and others who did not. When this new land mass was introduced to our country,
the people and the government immediately began the battle over the legalization of slavery in the
territory. This controversy, was propelling us further into the Civil War. The battle over slavery was
only half of the problem. The other half, came in the form of political party disagreements. The
democrats believed in giving more power to the states, and the federalists believed in more power to
the federal government. Thomas Jefferson s decision to purchase the land essentially disregarded his
basic views as a democrat and made many people furious. In closing, the stress on our shaken nation,
along with the ferocity of the people, rocketed our nation into the Civil War.

Conflict Within American Civil Society And The Jcpoa
in countering better funded opponents emerged in the context of this convergence of dissimilar

demonstrates the degree to which civil societal mobilization can serve to privilege diplomacy over war
in the context of even the most long running and intransigent instances of conflict. Indeed, and in
examining the civil societal contributions to the JCPOA discussed above, it is first critical to recognize
that pro JCPOA forces, at both the grassroots and grasstops levels, succeeded in defeating one of the
most powerful lobbies in American politics in the form of AIPAC. Given this reality, the triumph of
diplomacy over war that was embodied by the JCPOA, at a time when a propitious moment for
negotiations with Iran had been reached due to changes in both the Iranian and American diplomatic
landscapes, is one in which civil societal mobilization played a very significant role. Tangibly then,
the success of the deal demonstrates the degree to which ordinary citizens can influence the highest
levels of diplomacy when optimally organized and supported. Indeed, and in this context, one of the
most interesting elements of this civil societal mobilization, considering the degree to which grasstops
and grassroots interaction was critical to it, was the manner by which a relationship between civil

Facebook’s Non-Compliance with Canadian Privacy Laws
The world of privacy has changed, and Canada s laws need to keep up. Personal information has been
called the oil of the digital economy and as companies drill for more data, the risk to privacy are
growing exponentially. After an investigation conducted in 2009 prompted by a complaint filed from
the Canadian Policy and Public Interest Clinic, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has concluded
that Facebook s current practices of third party applications do not comply with Canadian Privacy

With these findings, the Commissioner has proposed several recommendations for Facebook to take

Paracetamol Synthesis and Uses Essay
Paracetamol Synthesis and Uses Discovered in 1877 by Harmon Northrop Morse at the John Hopkins
University, Paracetamol was one of several aniline deriviatives that was found to have analgesic and
antipyretic properties (Brodie 23). It was first synthesized by the reduction of p nitrophenol with tin in
glacial acetic acid; however was not used classified as a medication until ten year later (Bertolini 264).
Initially, phenacetin, a closely related compound that exhibited similar physiological effects, became
the popular over the counter drug for headaches (Bertolini 251). However, later research by Brodie
and Axelrod in 1949 found that phenacetin was in fact metabolized into paracetamol within the body

This is an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction where a hydrogen on the aromatic ring is
replaced with a nitro group. The hydroxyl group on the aromatic ring is an electron donating group
and therefore serves as an ortho para director. Through the nitration reaction, two products are formed:
o nitrophenol and p nitrophenol. In comparing the stability of the two resulting products, o nitrophenol
is less stable due to steric hinderance and proximity of the hydroxyl and nitro group to one another. On
the other hand, p nitrophenol does not experience the same steric hinderance since the two group as on
opposite sides of the aromatic ring and therefore do not interfere with one another. As a result, p
nitrophenol is the major product of reaction. It is also the product of interest and will be involved in
the next step of the synthesis.
Subsequently, p nitrophenol is reduced by sodium borohydride to give 4 aminophenol. In an industrial
synthesis, hydrogenation is used for reduction instead of sodium borohydride to produce an identical
product(Travis 764). The use of hydrogenation is more efficient when produce larger quantities. In the

The King s Speech Analytical Essay
God Save The King s Speech Academy award winning film, The King s Speech, is a motivational
movie where voice and courage become a matter of life and death. Prince Albert, later known as King
George VI (Colin Firth), stammers excessively and uncontrollably through his inaugural speech
closing the 1925 British Empire Exhibition due to a speech impediment. After finishing such a
disappointing speech, Prince Albert decides to give up on himself and accept his fate as a stammering
heir to the throne. However, his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), enlists him to see an Aussie
speech therapist that goes by the name of Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) whose Antipodean methods
are known to be unorthodox and controversial, ( The King s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bertie, is seen as a soon to be agonizing heir to the throne because he lacks communication skills. The
only thing stopping Prince Albert is himself. In the movie he states: If I m King, where s my power?
Can I form a government? Can I levy a tax, declare a war? No! And yet I am the seat of all authority.
Why? Because the nation believes that when I speak, I speak for them. But I can t speak ( The King s
Speech (2010) ). Prince Albert was a troubled child who was repressed of using his left hand,
possessed knock knees, had an abusive nanny and a death of a brother at an early age. As time passed,
Prince Albert never grew out of his comfort zone and continued to speak poorly. Because Prince
Albert speaks of himself that way, we can assume that communication is essential in leading a nation
and is a foundation for personal life, relationships, professional success and civic life. By saying that a
nation believes when he speaks, one can generally expect a leader for any reason or cause to possess
great speaking skills in order to be prosperous. The old phrase, actions speak louder than words had
never been so true such as in the case of Prince Albert. The Duke of York lacks nonverbal behavior
greatly in the sense that he has no self esteem therefore, making him a statue when he speaks. I have

The Pros And Cons Of Islamic Finance
These theoretical models perceived two tired mudarabah finance structure, in which the Islamic bank
on one hand would receive deposits as agent (mudarib) of its customers; and on the other hand provide
finance to enterprise as principal [sleeping partner] (rabb al mal). In this early period (1930s to 1960s),
developments in Islamic finance took place on the intellectual side only. The first practical realization
of a bank like Islamic financial institution, on a small scale, was that of Mit Ghimar in Egypt which
started in 1963 and closed down in 1967. Another independent experiment of Islamic finance started
in Malaysia in the form of Shari[ah (Ahmad, 2004) Islamic banks differs many sites from

Thumma Bai is normally used in financing consumer goods especially motor vehicles. There are two
separate contracts involved: Ijarah contract (leasing/renting) and Bai contract (purchase). The
contracts are made one after the other as shown in the diagram on page 7. Wakalah (Agency) This is a
contract whereby a person (principal) asks another party to act on his behalf (as his agent) for a
specific task. The person who takes on the task is an agent who will be paid a fee for his services. A
customer asks a bank to pay someone under certain terms. The bank is therefore the agent for carrying

Essay on Bus310 Accounting Theory and Accountability
BUS310 ACCOUNTING THEORY AND ACCOUNTABILITY WORKSHOP 1 SOLUTIONS 1)
GHHT: Chapter 1: Theory in Action 1.1 The article describes how a particular theoretical approach
has been replaced by another. Explain why one theory replaces another, and who, or what, determines
whether an existing theory survives. A theory is primarily meant to explain or predict an event,
behaviour or outcome. Proponents of a theory look for evidence to support the theory. This evidence
should be independently observed and consistent after repeated observations. Some theories are
speculative or ideas or guesses floated to encourage researchers to undertake the observations required
to prove or disprove the theory. The question often debated is what comes ... Show more content on

2. Does the reintroduction of a theory mean that it should not have been replaced in the first place?
Theories about how the economy works and what will happen in the economy where there is
monetary policy or fiscal policy intervention are appropriate in assisting policy makers understand the
possible implications of decisions they make or are under consideration. However, they are rarely
complete models and often outcomes cannot be predicted. Reintroduction of a theory suggests that
new evidence in support of the theory has been reported. 3. Should a theory be discarded if it does not
specify the means of achieving a stated objective? Explain your answer. The theory itself doesn t have
to specify the means of achieving a stated objective; however, it has to provide a sound basis for
explaining, defining and predicting behaviour. The application of the theory can have many elements
and it is in the interpretation of what will induce the predicted effects in the economy predicted by the
theory which will result in predicted or other stated outcomes. Q2) Readings 1. Principal images that

Computer Engineering, Engineering And Astronautical...
erospace engineering pertains to aircrafts and spacecraft, it involves researching, developing,
constructing. It can be split into two major fields; aeronautical engineering and astronautical
engineering. Aeronautics is concerned with aircraft that fly within Earth s atmosphere whereas
astronautics is concerned with spacecrafts. The focus of this Aerospace Engineering (Aeronautics)
project and production was to build an aircraft. It was to increase maneuverability while keeping
control and stability. There was a need for a much more advanced transportation. Over the last year,
four major disasters have damaged the name of the aeronautics. First, there were the two lost Malaysia
Airlines 777s, one due to an errant missile fired from a war zone, the other due to circumstances that
are still unclear. Then came the AirAsia crash, as well as the recent loss of a TransAsia plane in
Taiwan. In mobility everything is added to the flight and drop of a flying machine.
In result of these disasters the Janejet AT 9 is equipped with two turbojet engines, a avionics computer
bay, shock absorber and a FAA certified auto pilot raft and a 2016 fly by wire system. It is made up of
aluminum and two curricular rotor blades inside the sides of the plane. With these assets the Janejet
AT 9 will have the ability to hover, ascend, descend, take off and be prepared for crash landing ease.

Case Study Of Carousell
1.0 Introduction
Carousell is an e commerce company founded in Singapore on May 1, 2012, by co founders Quek Siu
Rui, Lucas Ngoo, and Marcus Tan, which provides a platform for consumers to interact and carry out
direct selling with each other. In other words, Carousell established a venue which allows the
consumers to engage with each other and carry out online commerce activities, which is a form of
consumer to consumer (C2C) e commerce via both mobile and website platforms, and Carousell does
not involve directly in any transaction between the registered sellers and buyers. The company is
currently based in Queenstown, Singapore, and its e commerce site is currently serving several
countries and areas include Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Whenever the issue arises, it must be resolved personally by the buyer and seller, Carousell usually
will not involve directly in the matter. Since the sellers on Carousell are primarily comprised of
consumers, they do not possess any standardised or professional policy to measure this issue, nor the
Carousell did. Hence, the way to handle the issue still varies with different sellers. In certain cases,
returning good is not acceptable by some of the sellers as most of the items sold on Carousell are
second handed good or used items with good and usable condition.
2.4 Additional Charges
The only additional charge that buyers need to pay is the postage fee of the item they bought. Postage
charge varies according to the nature and weight of the items, and also which courier company
delivers the items. For instance, the postage rate of Pos Laju Malaysia for items below 1kg varies from
RM 6 to RM 12. However, it is not always necessary for the buyer to pay for the extra postage fee as
some of the sellers will include the postage fee into the selling price or the buyers may choose to
complete the transaction by COD.

Imperialism in the Tempest
When one interacts with strangers, feelings of superiority and inferiority are bound to occur. In
Shakespeare s time period, most of the Europeans perspectives were disrespectful, arrogant, and full
of ignorance. Like the Native Americans, for most of the European colonists who landed in the New
World, it was their first exposure to the people of a different race. And yet, their first intuition of the
Native Americans was described as barbarians, savages, and cannibals. The Europeans thought
themselves as superior compared to the poor savages (Takaki 148); likewise in The Tempest,
Shakespeare portrayed Prospero as the rightful leader of Caliban s island, just as the Europeans
thought of themselves as the rightful rulers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the name of Caliban is a mere metathesis and anagram of cannibals; and the word cannibal is
used by Christopher Columbus in describing Caribs cannibalistic behaviors in 1498. Therefore,
Shakespeare s bias in the play, The Tempest, illustrates Caliban as a savage, a born devil whose nature
nurture can never sticks and as with his body uglier grows so his mind cankers (4.1.188 192). The
European claimed that they had a God given responsibility to inhabit and reform so barbarious a
nation and to educate to uplift the filthy people (Takaki p 145). One of their responsibilities is planting
of religion among those infidels and increase the force of the Christians (Hakluyt p.125) and others
were showed by Shakespeare through actions of Prospero. He attempted to nurture, teach, and civilize
Caliban. Despite Prospero s contributions, Caliban is incapable of learning anything but curses in foul
language and even attempted to rape Prospero s beloved daughter, Miranda. Caliban s savagery is
vividly portrayed in his sexual assault with lack of affections, and his animalistic innate instinct of
reproduction and expanding its own kind. Judging against Ferdinand s conduct in accepting his

  • 4. Socrates Vs Meno In this writing, Meno asks Socrates if virtue can be taught or is virtue the result of practice or does virtue come about in another way (70a). Meno believes that virtue is different for different actions performed and it also differs in terms of the age of the individual (72a). Socrates responds by telling me no that he does not know what qualities virtue possesses and he is ignorant to it (71b). However, virtue should take on the same form (72c), rather than being different for different actions and age of the person. Factors of virtue include justice and moderation (73b), and if people did not have the same traits of virtue, then this would mean that they are not good or virtuous in the same way (73c). A debate that has greatly impacted our society for centuries. Guided by inaccurate perceptions of each side, society has created a misunderstanding of the two types of education and what they represent, resulting in a competitive teacher labor market for public and private schools K 12. With the question, is there a difference between teaching in a public or private school? If so, which one has the advantage in the labor market? This leads to the question, what factors determine a school more desirable for receiving an education? If every student is presented with the same material, then what is difference between attending a public high school versus a private high school? Both of these questions can be answered with one simple word, teachers. Like any other occupation, the employer is looking to find the best candidate suitable for a certain position. Schools are looking to find the best teachers to employ in hopes of increasing student achievement, resulting in a good overall reputation of the school. Thus creating a competitive labor market for teachers. History: Schooling in America originated in the 18th century, with the creation of privatized schooling. Selective students were given the opportunity to study various subjects. Most of the students who were given an opportunity to attend school at that time were white and came from wealthy families, and unlike today, most of the teachers were male. The formation of public schools didn t happen until the 1840 s, which was created by the government in effort to provide education to those who could not afford it at the time. • 7. Essay on Virtue as Habit Virtue as Habit The aim of this essay is to examine the following question. Does it make a difference in moral psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1) In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral habit. The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism. The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty and precision one can expect ... While discussing with the colonists, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain, concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneously. In Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Convention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate. Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifyingamplifyling loaded words to bring to attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. The purpose of loaded words are terms to influence by utilizing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five, We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets the verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We have asked; we have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned, remonstrated and supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries is, compelling them to take action. He continues to go forth near the end in the paragraph seven stating It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter (Henry 7). Again he focuses on the verb, in this case, extenuate to accentuate the seriousness of the dilemma by pleading to the audience that now is the time to act, rather than wait or else matters will only get more grave. Henry uses amplifying loaded words in his declamation to his advantage to persuade, almost deceive, in order to oblige his audience to take matters into their own hands. To be in a position of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application, modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Air In Respiratory System Analysis Breathing is an automatic process that takes place in the respiratory system. Air enters and exits the respiratory structures through the process inhalation and exhalation. Air moves in and out of the lungs as a result of changes in pressure. Inhalation is achieved when the pressure inside the lungs is less than the pressure outside of the lungs. The diaphragm contracts pulling air into the lungs. When the pressure inside the lungs is less than the pressure outside the lungs, exhalation occurs allowing the diaphragm to relax expelling carbon dioxide waste from the lungs (Acrobatiq, 2014). Air can be inhaled through the nose or the mouth. When air enters via the nose during inhalation, it travels through the nasal cavity. Once in the nasal cavity, the air is warmed and filtered by the nose hairs. The air proceeds through the nasal cavity into the pharynx which includes the nasopharynx, oropharynx and the laryngopharynx. The nasopharynx is the upper part of the pharynx above the soft palate. The oropharynx is separated from the nasopharynx by the soft palate. The oropharynx also makes up the back wall of the throat where the tonsils and uvula are located. Air continues through into ... Another characteristic that the Cold War Period and 9/11 hold in common is that both were a pervasive political and military competition that dominated international politics. On September 11, 2001 terrorism became a reality! There is no way for the United States to prevent future attacks on Americans without working as a coalition force with the other nations to identify, track, and eliminate terrorist networks around the world. One of the main problems with fighting a war on terrorism is that the nations of the world have become accustomed to working alone as individuals vice working together. Deciphering the code of protein self organization process resulting into aggregation has been an intellectual challenge for scientists over the past few decades. Stirring as an agitation method is therefore quite useful in kinetic studies as process of aggregation without agitation can sometime take several days to months for completion. Table 1.2 describe this effect of agitation on aggregation process of various proteins, clearly showing the drastic change in kinetic parameters like lag time in absence and presence of agitation condition like stirring. Such agitation could possibly induce cavitation, local thermal effects and/or interfacial effects involving rapid transportation of either aggregated or adsorbed species from the interface into solution. Bolder et al. in their study on whey protein have speculated that stirring may also be breaking the immature fibrils leading to production of more active fibrils. But the mechanism of how aggregation process gets speed up on stirring is hitherto unclear. In this study, we have tried to unravel the effects of stirring on protein aggregation process, especially on the early events during the lag phase of the kinetic profile which governs the rate and morphological developments of final aggregates. • 29. River Runs Through It Symbolism The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River. Robert Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape his character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman s coming of age through the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford s adaptation explores Norman s coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river as a secondary aspect. Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters (119). In this statement, one is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean s life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his life] flows over generations of rock under which are, the words, and some of the words are theirs (119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow up, in turn shaping him. Norman s life would have been very different had older generations for example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential changes. Finally, he is haunted by waters because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman s deep connection to the river, and how the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain how he has grown accept his life. Given this reality, the triumph of diplomacy over war that was embodied by the JCPOA, at a time when a propitious moment for negotiations with Iran had been reached due to changes in both the Iranian and American diplomatic landscapes, is one in which civil societal mobilization played a very significant role. Tangibly then, the success of the deal demonstrates the degree to which ordinary citizens can influence the highest levels of diplomacy when optimally organized and supported. Essay on Bus310 Accounting Theory and Accountability BUS310 ACCOUNTING THEORY AND ACCOUNTABILITY WORKSHOP 1 SOLUTIONS 1) GHHT: Chapter 1: Theory in Action 1.1 The article describes how a particular theoretical approach has been replaced by another. Explain why one theory replaces another, and who, or what, determines whether an existing theory survives. A theory is primarily meant to explain or predict an event, behaviour or outcome. Proponents of a theory look for evidence to support the theory. This evidence should be independently observed and consistent after repeated observations. Some theories are speculative or ideas or guesses floated to encourage researchers to undertake the observations required to prove or disprove the theory. The question often debated is what comes ... Theories about how the economy works and what will happen in the economy where there is monetary policy or fiscal policy intervention are appropriate in assisting policy makers understand the possible implications of decisions they make or are under consideration. However, they are rarely complete models and often outcomes cannot be predicted. Reintroduction of a theory suggests that new evidence in support of the theory has been reported. 3. Should a theory be discarded if it does not specify the means of achieving a stated objective? Explain your answer. The theory itself doesn t have to specify the means of achieving a stated objective; however, it has to provide a sound basis for explaining, defining and predicting behaviour. The application of the theory can have many elements and it is in the interpretation of what will induce the predicted effects in the economy predicted by the theory which will result in predicted or other stated outcomes. • 45. Computer Engineering, Engineering And Astronautical... erospace engineering pertains to aircrafts and spacecraft, it involves researching, developing, constructing. It can be split into two major fields; aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Aeronautics is concerned with aircraft that fly within Earth s atmosphere whereas astronautics is concerned with spacecrafts. The focus of this Aerospace Engineering (Aeronautics) project and production was to build an aircraft. It was to increase maneuverability while keeping control and stability. There was a need for a much more advanced transportation. Over the last year, four major disasters have damaged the name of the aeronautics. First, there were the two lost Malaysia Airlines 777s, one due to an errant missile fired from a war zone, the other due to circumstances that are still unclear. Then came the AirAsia crash, as well as the recent loss of a TransAsia plane in Taiwan. In mobility everything is added to the flight and drop of a flying machine. In result of these disasters the Janejet AT 9 is equipped with two turbojet engines, a avionics computer bay, shock absorber and a FAA certified auto pilot raft and a 2016 fly by wire system. It is made up of aluminum and two curricular rotor blades inside the sides of the plane. With these assets the Janejet AT 9 will have the ability to hover, ascend, descend, take off and be prepared for crash landing ease. Hence, the way to handle the issue still varies with different sellers. In certain cases, returning good is not acceptable by some of the sellers as most of the items sold on Carousell are second handed good or used items with good and usable condition. 2.4 Additional Charges The only additional charge that buyers need to pay is the postage fee of the item they bought. • 47. Imperialism in the Tempest When one interacts with strangers, feelings of superiority and inferiority are bound to occur. In Shakespeare s time period, most of the Europeans perspectives were disrespectful, arrogant, and full of ignorance. Like the Native Americans, for most of the European colonists who landed in the New World, it was their first exposure to the people of a different race. And yet, their first intuition of the Native Americans was described as barbarians, savages, and cannibals. The Europeans thought themselves as superior compared to the poor savages (Takaki 148); likewise in The Tempest, Shakespeare portrayed Prospero as the rightful leader of Caliban s island, just as the Europeans thought of themselves as the rightful rulers of the ... In fact, the name of Caliban is a mere metathesis and anagram of cannibals; and the word cannibal is used by Christopher Columbus in describing Caribs cannibalistic behaviors in 1498. Therefore, Shakespeare s bias in the play, The Tempest, illustrates Caliban as a savage, a born devil whose nature nurture can never sticks and as with his body uglier grows so his mind cankers (4.1.188 192). The European claimed that they had a God given responsibility to inhabit and reform so barbarious a nation and to educate to uplift the filthy people (Takaki p 145). One of their responsibilities is planting of religion among those infidels and increase the force of the Christians (Hakluyt p.125) and others were showed by Shakespeare through actions of Prospero. He attempted to nurture, teach, and civilize Caliban. Despite Prospero s contributions, Caliban is incapable of learning anything but curses in foul language and even attempted to rape Prospero s beloved daughter, Miranda.
